Nintendo has confirmed that they are working on a brand new 3D Mario game for the Wii U. And they’ve confirmed that the game will be unveiled at E3 2013, less than two weeks away. Some have speculated that the new 3D Mario game is Super Mario Galaxy 3, some have speculated that it’s Super Mario Sunshine 2. Others have speculated something completely different.

If it came down to Super Mario Galaxy 3 vs Super Mario Sunshine 2, which would you pick? We got some cool fan-made Wii U box of the two games that might help you choose. Let us know your thoughts in the comment section (click the image for a larger view)!

    Super Mario Sunshine 2…by FAAAAAAAAARRRRR

  • GuardiansFan

Mario sunshine? I think i played it all of 10 minutes so that tells you my answer right there. The Mario Galaxy are the only “3d” games I have actually liked.

    • Nintedward

If you played it for 10 minutes you have no opinion of the game.
      Game was/is amazing.

      • GuardiansFan

your not getting the point i was trying to make…i disliked the game so much i didnt play it for very long.

  • HSN1

3 SMG games in a row is a bit much, and I haven’t played Sunshine, so I’ll go with a totally new game

    • Guest

Yeah…but the number three might get totally different experience.

    • [000]

But that wasn’t even what the article was about. It’s already been confirmed that it’s a BRAND NEW 3d Mario, so it can’t be a sequel or direct successor to anything. The article was just saying, if the choice WAS between those two(Which it obviously isn’t), which would you rather have?

      • HSN1

Then a new Galaxy since I’m familiar with it

        • [000]

I respect that, but personally, I would rather have a new Sunshine, just because it was the first Gamecube game I got, and it kind of brings back memories.

          • incoherent1

Yeah, I’d rather have a sunshine game if I had to pick, but for the opposite reason (I never owned a GC, so it’d be fun to try something new).

        • Kyle Berger

People need to stop downvoting people for their opinions.

      • Guest

I must say,you are right. What if that game is mixture of the older 3D Mario games, plus,a lot of new features?

      • greengecko007

Has this been confirmed? They called the A Link to the Past sequel game a brand new Zelda game. It really depends on what your definition of brand new is, and I haven’t seen any articles confirming that the new mario isn’t a sequel.

        • incoherent1

      • incoherent1

I don’t think they’ve confirmed it’ll be a brand new series. As far as I know, Nintendo only said it’ll be “all new” — aka not a remake of an old game and just updating the graphics. That said, I do think that it’ll be a new series too, but just haven’t heard that it’s actually confirmed.

Also not arguing with you — you were right that the original article was asking us to pick between Galaxy and Sunshine if we had to. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • peeer

Brand new doesn’t exactely mean that its a completely different mario game. If you read carefully the article says some have speculated that its a galaxy sequel and some have speculated that its a sunshine sequel while others have speculated its something completely different.

        • sonicforlife11

I really like to look into mario world a little more like mario kart having city and mall levels like have mario run through a city construction sites and at the top fight donkey kong or look alike that be sweet

  • Pandoras_socks

Sunshine 2 for sure, we’ve had a galaxy sequel. Sunshine was one of my favourite GC games.

  • RockieOllie
  • Aqua Team

Oh god, dat COVER……DAT OTHER COVER!!!!!

    MARIOS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wolfie

Sunshine definitely. It is such a great game.

  • Henry Hotspur

    I expect neither.

I really liked Mario Sunshine a lot for what it is. It had problems, though. I bet a sequel would fix all the issues it bared.

    • cement

i hope its something nes….. maybe mario universe??? or mario multiverse??? idk….. they sound like they can get wacky and fun!

  • grandlx2

Neither. Bring me a new Mario 64.. Except ten times better. And in 1080p. Galaxy sucked for me. Too much running around flying through hoops. You could never walk around and explore in a big world like in Mario 64. And Sunshine.. Cleaning? No thank you. Mario 64, but for a new gen… I can only imagine how awesome it’d be.

  • Donnie4life

    Mario sunshine 2!

    • Clel

      Aww hell yeah!

      • Guest

You will surely find lots of fruits there! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Elvis Hayes

i agree thay haven’t made a sequel since super mario galaxy 2

    • Yousif Alromaithi

Definitely the touch screen will make it a better game than Galaxy. But a brand new Mario is better but that won’t stop us into getting a sequel to the most beloved game on GameCube.

      • Metroid 33slayer

Sunshine was a decent game but the most beloved game on gamecube? Resident evil 4, Metroid prime 1 & 2, F-zero GX, Tales of symphonia, smash bros melee, Mariokart DD, killer 7,Zelda WW & TP say maybe not.

        • Christopher Coonan

          You forgot Kirby Air Ride.

          And, imo, Geist.

          • Metroid 33slayer

            Those games were average.

        • Yousif Alromaithi

I loved sunshine more. The one that’s stands equal is super smash bro melee. Since it is for me the most played game I have ever played on GameCube and the super smash bro series. Although the list you stated above are great games worthy of recognition. But I know a lot of people hated sunshine and that’s questionable. The game really was awesome but still not better than Galaxy. Because Galaxy levels have evolved and become more genuine which is superior to the Mario 64. Therefore the game is considered by critics alike as an overall better game from the 64 days.

          • CapnCrumbles436

Sorry, Metroid P 1,2, FzeroGX, RE4, WindWaker, Twilight Princess, SSBM, Eternal Darkness, RE remake, RE Zero, MGS Twin Snakes, Soul Calibur II, Beyond Good and Evil, Vewtiful Joe, Mario Kart DD, Animal Crossing, Rogue Squadron II, Luigis Manson, and Pikmin 1,2 did more for me than Mario Sunshine ever did. I’m not even sure that I finished the game, if I did it wasn’t very memorable.

It was very ‘happy’ and it was very unique, but something about it didn’t hold me. I don’t know if it was the lack of variety, or if it was my age at the time (15). Perhaps it simply ventured too far away from the familiar Mario feel. Whatever the case, I feel it was the weakest of the 3D Mario platformers (64, Galaxy 1,2).

The gamepad opens the door for some interesting play mechanics, were they to develop Sunshine 2, but honestly I just want to see something new all together.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

I enjoyed sunshine more because the game took the series to a new direction but truly the game was hard. It tools me a month to finish the game. I hated the blue coins and some stage where frustrating. Galaxy was more fun and easier but I liked galaxy more it had better visuals and a game superior to the 64 version. Although I still favor sunshine because of its replay value but I don’t Luigi Mansion did more than sunshine did. Although I agree with Metriod Prime and Wind Waker those game are considered better than sunshine.

      • PatcherStation

I thought Luigi’s Mansion was the best game on the GameCube which was a launch title. It’s not often you get a quality launch title like that. After Mario 64, I’d say Luigi’s Mansion was the second best launch game of all time (on any console).

        • bluegazer6643

I thought the Thousand Year Door was the best game on the GameCube(its also my favorite game of all time).

          • Mr. Hobo

I’m not the only one! TTYD FTW!!!

        • Yousif Alromaithi

Agreed Luigi Mansion is way better than what ign gave it during the GameCube launch days. Also a similar manner on gamespot that gave it a bad review for the 3ds version. Truly a sad day to the history of video games only ign and gamespot can ever manage to do it.

        • Mr. Hobo

What about super mario bros. ?

        • CapnCrumbles436

I was fifteen at the time! and I remember that the game was given great reviews, the only thing holding it back was the length of the campaign and the lack of replay value.

It was a fantastic game you’re right, but given the fact that it was so very short, I think it deserved most of the ‘8’s it received. To say that it was the best game on Cube or the 2nd best launch title of all time is going a tad too far.

          • PatcherStation

Most console launches come with average to crap games. The likes of Mario 64 and Luigi’s Mansion stick out by a mile. Those 2 games stick out from a lot of launch games. Condemned on the Xbox was a great launch game and also Wipeout on the PlayStation. As I say, there’s not many great launch titles out there and that’s going right from the Mega Drive and SNES days. Can’t say even the Wii and Wii U had any great launch games. I suppose what I’m trying to say is launch games that are classics. Will the Xbox One and PS4 have any classic launch games? Probably not.

    • Tecpedz94

I aquatically want a sunshine 2 as well. I enjoyed galaxy but im sticking to sunshine for now or at least a new super mario 64 but a new one for the WiiU. Also kinda off topic but a new or remake of donkey kong 64 would be cool :p Nintendo has so much potential with their consoles, with making new games and bringing back the old ones because they where and still are just so damn good.

      • Mr. Hobo

A remake wouldn’t be possible since Rare (the creators of the game) is now owned by Microsoft… That’s why it never made it to the Wii’s virtual console lineup. That’s also why Banjo Kazooie can be found in the Xbox Live Arcade.

        • Frank

Actually DK is owned by Nintendo it is possible to make a sequel to DK64; it’s possible

          • Mr. Hobo

            I never mentioned a sequel , I said a remake.

        • NatT96โ„ข

Sir, the original founders of RARE.Ltd left the company in 2007 stating that they wanted to pursue”other opportunities”. It is now owned by someone else. I wonder what the founders are up to now? Hmm…what are they up to?

    • I would like to be in that game

      • MonsterHunter387

Once again Waluigi, your drunk. Maybe Nintendo will make a Mario DDR 2 where you could be the villain. But for now, just go back to play golf and tennis

        • Sam

          And karting

1st, love that box art, props to who ever made that, I would get both those games! If I had to choose, I would get SunShine 2 1st but I would like both of those games for sure. Also, like so many others, I WANT A WHOLE NEW MARIO GAME!

2nd, I am amazed on what I have been seeing of late. So many want Mario Sunshine 2 and want Wind Waker HD nowadays and everybody loved those games on Gamecube…BS people, I was there when so many called those games the worst ever for Nintendo when they came out, and I was one voice back then saying that these games were great and what I thought were new and cool about them. I realize this is a Nintendo site…BUT man so many so called fans went up in arms about those games back then about why even use Fludd and about the overall art style of Wind Waker sucked. I am glad now that some have realized those are great games and appreciate how Nintendo tries new things and they usually work great, and would support them now on the U.

      • Joyous Killer

Its always like that on every game. People have just gotta learn to trust nintendo.

      • Super Buu

You weren’t the only who loved these games when they came out. Wind Waker’s art style is what brought me to play the game and SunShine is just a fantastic game that stood the test of time and brings so many good memories.

        • SH*TBLOCK

I know I wasn’t the only one that liked those games. My point was to the fact that so many hated on them, even so called Nintendo fans when they came out, and now it seems everyone always loved them like I did.

We have so many true Nintendo fans and overall real gamer’s on this site that probably all really felt the way like I did, but these games were really hated on when they came out across the board..

          • You guys aren’t alone Mario Sunshine & Wind Waker are my all time favorites. Sunshine is the only Mario game that has the water pack besides a few moves in Smash. I would love to see Sunshine 2 instead of Galaxy 3. I would really love to see a game that has Luigi with the vacuum and Mario with the water pack co-op/ 2 player, or even if they changed Luigi in smash to give him the vacuum to fight with. Anyway Sunshine 2 all the way.

      • mikel334u2

You’re not the sole hipster; those games have remained some of my favorite games of all time.

    • No! No more sequels!

    • LonDonE247

super Mario sunshine was the worst selling Mario, and so it wont happen, at this point in time Nintendo need a Mario which appeals to EVERYBODY! galaxy 1 and 2 done that for wii, i liked sunshine but preferred Mario 64 and galaxies games so much more, due to wii limitations, the worlds in galaxy had to be kept small, but imagine bigger Mario 64 style worlds, and a huge open world based in the mushroom kingdom, like super Mario bros 3, with the giant world, water world, ice, etc i want a 3d super Mario bros 3,but with a mix of galaxy 1 and 2 and Mario 64 game play, while i liked Mario sunshine, i quickly got bored of the tropical island setting, and music, and the water based game play just didn’t do it for me, and for most Mario fans, the sales speaks for itself, the fact is most Mario fans did not like sunshine.

I think Nintendo really has a chance to wow us, they could create a huge mushroom kingdom with all the different worlds and themes like in super Mario bros 3, but in 3d, that would be awesome!! and much better then a Mario sunshine sequel, people are letting nostalgia cloud their judgment, game play wise Mario 64, and the galaxy games destroyed sunshine, the sales figures speak for themselves!! even a galaxy 3 with a massive hub world which is the mushroom kingdom, with peaches castle and a open world to travel to the other kingdoms or worlds, and the actual stages to be allot bigger since they have more power and ram now, that would be sik!!!

      • Qwerty Uiopasd

What if there was something that connected Galaxy, 64, & Sunshine? Like you could explore the Mushroom Kingdom, Go into Bowser’s and Peach’s Castles, Do missions and buy items from the toads, use a Mario rocket to get into space, and explore the path from the Kingdom to Isle Delfino?

        • Kaihaku

          Like one big Super Mario…Universe?

      • sonicforlife11

I really like to look into mario world a little more like mario kart having city and mall levels like have mario run through a city construction sites and at the top fight donkey kong or look alike that be sweet

      • Tristian Comer

I would love to see some mixes of elements from older games. There’s so many possible things that could be done….I would like to see like a mushroom kingdom village that had maybe a minigame arcade, toad houses, a museum, etc (on a smaller scale, Pac-Man World 2 had these elements, but rather, an arcade that had some of the old Pac-Man games). One thing I’d like to see is Nintendo eliminating things like going back to a world to do something like collect this amount of purple coins to get this additional star, etc (not big on collectathons lol)…would also like to see the Koopalings. maybe there could be two bosses in each world: Koopalings and a monster along the lines of a Petey Pirahna or Gooper Blooper, then in the final world, Bowser Jr. and Bowser It’d also be nice to some Super Mario Bros 2 elements as well. I know that game is a makeover of a non-Mario game, but quite a few enemies (Shy-Guy, Bob-omb, Birdo, etc) and the POW block game from it, and it really doesn’t get enough credit

  • Relick

I know you said if it came down to it – but I don’t want either. This is a new console and I’d like an awesome new game rather than a sequel.

    • GuardiansFan

i’d go with either mario galaxy 3 or a whole new game as you say…

honestly though i would prefer new levels and powers for Super Mario Bros 3 and in 8 bit to boot…or even a direct remake (like all stars) but using better graphics for some classic 2d mario games

    • Alex Damman

same here. but if it cam down to it i would prefer sunshine.

  • Colin

Something open world with online would be awesome.

  • Gabe Hoffman

I am unsure The reason there was a Mario Galaxy 2 was because Nintendo couldn’t fit all of their ideas in to the first Super Mario Galaxy. I am guessing it will be a successor to Mario Galaxy and will likely be called Super Mario Universe. Both Box Arts look surprisingly legit though

  • Lev M

i’d rather have both(due to the fact that the U needs games)but if i had to then i’d go with Mario galaxy 3, super Mario sunshine was considered as a let down by the masses & i didn’t really enjoy it neither

    • GuardiansFan

im surprised so many people on here actually want mario sunshine 2 because of the letdown you mentioned. i was aware of that and personally didnt like it. Mario galaxy managed to do the impossible and thats the fact that i loved it even though im a sucker for the 2d mario games

    • stratisifre

agreed. i seriously dont understand what people all of a sudden love about mario sunshine. sure, it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. mario galaxy was the rue follow up to mario 64 imo, and i can’t wait to see what they can do to 1up mario galaxy 2, one of my all time favorite games.

  • Guest

Wow…good artworks, but I’ll vote Super Mario Galaxy 3(Or even to absolutely new 3D Mario game.)

    • Guest

But I still want to get the other oneโ™ชยบยทยบ

  • Christian Schoff

Sunshine 2 but preferrably something all new.

  • JoB Gonzez

i would totally go for super mario sunshine 2 !!

  • Arnoldo Morales

  • bizzy gie

New game altogether. I kmow nothing of Sunshine and very little of Galaxy.

  • TCar

Although I am ready for a new Mario game, I would choose Sunshine 2. With the new game play potential I can see some really new aspects added to the game.

  • Firebro17

How about neither? Why would you want the same experience again? I would want a brand new mario game that would surpass the two gameplay wise, visually, musically, and in every other way. Why would you want more the same when you can get a brand new exciting experience?

  • Antar Rodrรญguez

sunshine 2 i really missed the free world exploration in mario galaxy series

  • Steven Scott

    Super Mario Sunshine 2

  • gamesplayswill

Sunshine 2, Although I would also love another galaxy game to come out.

  • htrhr

Sunshine ofcourse (in my youth games)

  • Tecpedz94

No doubt Super Mario sunshine 2 !!!!!!!!!

  • Rafael Martins

    Sunshine FTW!!!

  • Alex Damman

sunshine 2, definitely. althought i enjoyed the galaxy games more, sunshine was good as well and i don’t want more of hte same in a row.

  • Arvidex

  • Bob Singh

Super Mario Sunshine was actually my first GameCube game, and third game overall, so I have great memories. I would definitely want Super Mario Sunshine 2.

  • Guest

    There is already a fan-made SMG3 Trailer:

  • Lusunup

how about a Super mario Wiiu just like the n64. That would be nice…

    • Adrian

  • Magnus Eriksson

Super Mario Lost Levels 2 3D

  • Guest
    • Guest

SMG3 is difficult to be imagined…

  • Super Buu

    Sunshine 2

  • Jeffrey Debris

To be honest, I don’t care what it will be. As long as it will be a 3D Mario! ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Nintedward

Nice topic! Mario sunshine 2 for me. Galaxy 1 and 2 are both flawless victories in gaming , BUT there already is 2 of them. So would rather see Sunshine get a sequel
What I loved about Sunshine was how tight the controlls were. Remember doing a spin jump whilst spraying at the same time ? Travelling around with Flud was coooool also.

Off topic. Is it just me or is this the funniest meme ever ?

    • Moshugaani

The gameplay mechanics from Sunshine deserve a revisit.
Wouldn’t it be nice if the Fludd was in another game, even if just as a power-up?

    • Alexander Kleinwechter

You always come with something good nintendward, and i really like the memes you coming with, keep it up ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Ony

Ten first comments: Mario Sunshine wins OR a totally new one.

I loved Sunshine, liked Galaxy, but a totally new one would be awesome. Perhaps a SM64 like ? (In a giant “mountain-world” hub with hundred of huge levels, which have 7 stars each… omg <3)

  • Super Mario 64 2 FTW!!!!

    • Vextrum

Wouldn’t make any sense. Unless Nintendo made the sequel in 64-bit.

      • 150Db

It would be. Wii U is probably 64-bit

        • so is your bias

          • 150Db

What? Don’t misunderstand. All computers are 64-bit now. PS4 and Xbone too. I wasn’t insulting the U. I have one and I love it!

          • then nevermind! shows what I know about bits XD

      • They don’t have to call it “Super Mario 64 2” and it doesn’t even need to be a “direct sequel.” I’ll be happy as long as it’s made in the same style (but updated graphics).

    • 504HotBoy

I agree. I would rather prefer a Mario along the line of Super Mario 64. I also thought Sunshine was great, but felt a bit too repetitive to me. Galaxy was amazing though. But hopefully Nintendo new Wii U version be more similar to Super 64, in terms of style and gameplay, while introducing new mechanics.

    • I’d love another game in that style…

    • Kriskura

Then, you should try to play to “Super Mario Star Road”! Believe me, you’ll not regret it!

  • Andrew Gonzalez

Between those two, I’d go with Sunshine 2 but something completely new is what I really want. I know mario has done everything under the sun but this will force them to be really creative.

  • MuffinDerp

Why can’t we have both? :>

  • ConCity Soldier

No voting poll!? Really!? Anyways I didn’t like Mario Galaxy and I have never played Sunshine. I rather get an all new 3D Mario game. If I had to choose a sequal of any 3D Mario game it would be a Mario 64 sequal.

  • linkdk12

if the choice where between these two, iยดll choose mario sunshine, because the overworld was amazing!!!, and if it is a brand new mario i would like it to have a bigger and better overworld to fell like a fresh new adventure ;).

  • mikeik

    sunshine or something new

  • Super Mario Sunshine 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Luke Wilson

lol shouldnt mario be sticking out two fingers instead of one in the sunshine box art?

    • H8ersBH8n

      That’s what I

  • MC

Would be great if the made both games!!!!

  • mac

    Super Mario Sunshine 2

  • majora :D

Why can’t I choose the three of them? ๐Ÿ™

  • Knguro

I’d rather go with a Mario 64 sequel

    • Knguro

And looks like some people would like the freedom of walking in a great opened world… that’s why I thing the concept of Mario 64 fits better to this concept… imagine revisiting Peach’s Castle one more time, in 3D, 1080p and bigger than ever!!!!

  • Squid

I loooove Mario Galaxy, but Mario Sunshine is great too..

  • JB

If I had only a choice between the two, then perhaps Sunshine, since it’s been awhile since we just had a Galaxy sequel not too long ago. However, If I had my way, a Mario 64 sequel would kick arse! I’ve also longed for a 3D Mario where I can play as Luigi either alone or in some tag team fashion.. Just imagine how much it would add to the game play if you had to use Luigi to access places Mario couldn’t and vice versa? ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Ryan Latorre

    mario party thats online?

    • Shaise Mughal

They mean a platforming game, not a party game

      • Ryan Latorre

Ah i see…well my bad good day sir.

  • Cameron

Sunshine, Galaxy already has a sequel.

  • Nintendude789

OH FUCK YES!! A NEW SUPER MARIO SUNSHINE GAME!!! I love Super Mario Sunshine. I always wished a sequel to it!!

  • Adventurer of Hyrule

Out of the 2 i would pick sunshine. I already thought Galaxy 2 was a bit redundant.

  • babulibaba

    Super Mario Time Traveller

    • GuardiansFan

they alrady did that….Mario’s time machine on the PC ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Shaise Mughal

No it was on the Super Nintendo

      • babulibaba

doesnt mean they cant do that
        plus that game was educational
        and not many people played
        and this is 3d
        and for the wii u
        and they always revamp

  • Mvasd

ill preferr Super Mario 3d: return to 64
๐Ÿ˜€ btw i still have hard believeing those are fan-made but if they are congratz to who made them

  • Nintendo4life

I would rather have a brand new type of mario

  • Leo

    Super Mario Sunshine 2

  • john

To be fair, Galaxy already had a sequel, and both the original and the sequel were excellent. But the reason the sequel was good was because Nintendo had a lot of ideas to make the sequel fresh and new. Besides the graphics and art style, it was pretty much a completely different game.

Super Mario Sunshine was also a great game. Aside from the glitches and slight lack of polish (compared to Galaxy) it was every bit as good as Galaxy in my opinion, and it introduced a lot of new stuff into the Mario franchise. I think Nintendo could come up with some really cool new ideas for a Sunshine sequel; a new tropical setting, new power-ups for FLUDD, new fruits that result in new types of Yoshies, and maybe even a new complex plot (something I really liked about Sunshine. Even though it ended up being the Princess being Kidnapped by Bowser again, it was done in a cool, fresh way).

I actually don’t really want any direct sequels at all. If anything, I really want a spiritual successor to Super Mario 64 (not anything directly tied to it, but a similar feel) with all new everything. If I had to choose between the two though, Super Mario Sunshine 2 sounds more interesting.

    • Knguro

You just stole my words: “Spiritual successor to Super Mario 64″…. Nintendo, please go for it…

  • Something all new. But if it came down to the two I’d rather have a Galaxy 3 than another Sunshine game.

  • DeedsGaming .

Would prefer something completely new, but Sunshine 2 would be nice if it was between the two.

  • uPadWatcher

Since the Nintendo Wii U is an eco-friendly video game console, I would vote for Super Mario Sunshine 2.

  • Sora Morp

  • david jarman

I want them both. Sorry, but I’m selfish.

Super Mario sunshine 2 of course it a no brainer to be honest. Where the hell did Yoshi go in super Mario galaxy 3 go?????????????

  • For a second there I thougt they were real games ._. Awesome artwork! I’d like a New Sunshine game but with maybe a new open-world gameplay style.

  • Assassinated23

I’d prefer something new, but if not, Sunshine 2 over Galaxy 3.

  • MetroidZero

    Something new.

    P.S. Nice artwork!

  • PS4/WiiU

Super mario sunshine 2 All the way

  • Adam Fox

I know i’m gonna get some hate for this, but I would rather have SMG3 than Sunshine 2….I did not like Sunshine….I still have it on GameCube, but didn’t really like it that much……not a big fan of Galaxy either, but would rather have Galaxy 3 than Sunshine 2…however, from what I recall they said the new 3D Mario game entirely… i’ll just wait until they reveal the new Mario game

    • Shaise Mughal

I think it will be an entirely new one because they did say NEW 3D Mario, if it wasnt entirely new, they couldnt told us the title straight

  • RyuNoHadouken

they both suck…Mario needs to be discontinued for awhile and revamped, although i know it will never happen

    • uPadWatcher

      U mad… loser?

  • TheFarmboy

I’ll take Sunshine 2. Two Galaxies is enough for me.

(I can imagine Sunshine 2 looking like Wind Waker HD :P)

But I prefer something new more.

  • NatT96โ„ข

    Sunshine 2

  • scarlet

Definitely Super Mario Sunshine 2! I loved that game!

  • Bjรถrn Blizzard Frykmo

Sunshine all the way! Galaxy is a bit too linear for my taste.
But I would rather have an all new entry in the mario-series ^^’ A whole new concept!

  • Boulzar

    Super Mario Sunshine 2!!!

  • LucaYoshi

A very tough choice ….They’re both great games I would prefer a Super Luigi Sunshine since it’s the year of luigi and he didn’t appear in the gamecube game

  • Sunshine would be awesome
Also, those are incredibly well made fan box-art. You could fool me into thinking they were legit.

  • wober2

    Super Mario U dig :}
Mario’s power is digging like minecraft… I would actually really like this.

  • Erick Rivera

I’m doing an advertisement project in school right now and I have to make up a logo and a slogan. Since I like Nintendo and the Wii U I chose to do it on that, but I’m having a bit of trouble on making up both, I’ve asked friends but I did really like their suggestions. Which brings me to my point, can anyone give me some help please? Thank you if you do!

  • Moshugaani

Super Mario Sunshine 2 all the way!
Except it will be neither. It’s gonna be a completely new endeavour.

  • Nicholas Perkins

    mario sunshine 2

  • Adam

Sunshine 2. I would like more open worlds like sunshine unlike the smaller levels of the galaxy games

  • Bemeovo

Super Mario Galaxy 3! Could improve on box art slightly.

  • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

Sunshine 2. I really thought that the F.L.U.D.D. water pack used was a lot of fun and really enjoyed the open structure of the levels and would love the 3D Mario game revealed to be Super Mario Sunshine 2-that would make my day if Nintendo announced it ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Linskarmo

As long as it’s awesome, I wouldn’t care. I’ve never played Super Mario Sunshine though, so I don’t know what I’d expect from that.

  • Elitepwnsface

I want worlds where you collect multiple stars in each zone. Not no one star one level crap from galaxy. I felt like i spent more time in the level select then i did in the game. Really hated that.

  • Dave Mason

why not release both of them at the same time?

  • Guhtere

How about a new and original Mario game, not just a game with similar physics and levels to other Mario games?

  • hikkerd

    what about sunshine galaxy?

    • Frank

      Cross-over game. Possible

  • Madmagican

Hmm, a new 3D mario could be interesting but until I know more I’ll say I’d prefer to see a second Mario Sunshine

  • Russel Bowersox

…. neither. Each used the controller for the time well. I want something that’s going to use the game pad well.

Also, the only reason Galaxy 2 was made is because they still had ideas to get out, so they’re clearly done with Sunshine, and as sad as it is… more then likely done with Galaxy. But I think something for the Wii U, and everything this dang machine can do, has the potential to blow all the 3D Mario games out of the water.

  • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

  • david jarman
  • Roidenstore

Iยดd have to say Galaxy 3.

  • Liam Grunow

i was playing sunshine this morning, man that game is underrated. so yea sunshine, we can have a new galaxy some other time

  • Shazaib Raja

    Super Mario Sunshine 2! Obviously!

  • discuss

    Sunshine 2.

  • Ernie Sanguyo

i prefer galaxy 3 and hoping it’s going to be more than 242 stars lol.

  • MeeperSeven

I’d really like to see a Sunshine 2. Galaxy has a sequel, Sunshine doesn’t.

  • Destructonator101

    Sunshine 2 if course!

  • I think sunshine would be the better choice. Seeing as how some people think sunshine is flawed (how?), it would be a great way of going “This is how the wiiu can make something amazing.

  • matthew hotham

  • I_I

I need anew 3D Mario and another Mario Sunshine and another Super Mario Galaxy

  • 150Db

Galaxy 3, but titled Super Mario Universe, because Wii U games should start with ‘U’

  • Gary Chandler

WOW both game covers look amazing I think I’d pick both games!

  • Mario sunshine 2

  • enigmaxtreme
  • Miguel Rivas

I would like something like Mario Sunshine 2, but in an open world style like WindWaker. It would work since Delphino Isle is smaller than the great sea, and maybe they would make the going between levels use FLUDD in a way, like, plug FLUDD in a boat to make it go faster, and that way you could go from delphino plaza to pinna park in under a minute. The places that are inland would be reached by FLUDD copter (plug FLUDD into a machine that has a BIG water tank and sprays water at high speeds to be able to hover). There should also be underwater levels that have something like a dome so you can breather, and they are reached by FLUDD-Submarine

    • Miguel Rivas

Maybe, you had to get 8 paintbrushes from the Koopalings, and with the 8 paintbrushes paint your way up to the final battle with bowser for the ultimate paintbrush that makes all wishes come true. this would be Super Mario Sunshine: The Eight Brushes. there would be: Air Brush, Water Brush, Fire Brush, Ice Brush, Poison Brush, Electricity Brush, Rock Brush & The Dream Brush. Maybe the koopalings would steal them from E.GADD while he was asleep and take them to delphino Isle, and island close to the setting of Luigi’s Mansion.

  • Adrian Brown

None. I prefer a brand new series

  • Metroid 33slayer

Neither will happen but hypathetically i would say sunshine because galaxy already has a sequel and sunshine doesn’t.

  • Mvasd

i think a Newer version of Super mario Rpg (7 stars) or something close to it but in 3d would be Bad-A$$

  • miiandmario

Super mario sunshine 2! Sunshine was the one of best GC games.

  • Christopher Bracewell

    I’d rather have both.

  • arturovargasjr

I’d rather have Super Mario Open World, imagine the possibilities!

  • Jared Garcia

Sunshine 2! Using that talking hose was neat, but a firmware update on voices would be nice.

  • PatcherStation

Mario 64 was the best, sunshine wasn’t as good, plus it had dodgy control. Both Galaxy games was too in your face, short levels, roaming about like in Mario 64 is better, but the Mario Galaxy games did look amazing. Looks like Mario is being milked with New Super Mario Bros. games. 2D Mario games are still ace, I prefer them to 3D. I’d like to see a new 2D Mario World game, but it’d probably be the same as New Super Mario Bros. Or maybe a 3D Super Mario World game, giving Galaxy a rest and not naming it Mario Sunshine 2.

  • arturovargasjr

Super Mario Open World! Imagine the possibilities ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Ryan House

    These are awesome MOCK UPS

  • Ryan House

Some people are such great Artists or at least great with Photo Shop

  • D.M.T

I want something new but if I have to choose then give me Sunshine 2 because we really don’t need another Galaxy game. It makes more sense for Nintendo to make Super Mario Universe because the universe is much bigger than a Galaxy and Wii U is the much bigger and powerful son of the Wii.

  • Ryan House

Super Mario Sun Shine was incredibly Hard. even Nintendo Knew it

  • Super Mario Sunshine…I loved Galaxy 1 hated galaxy 2

  • Oum’Bushay

I would love sunshine 2, I love it so much; my problem with the galaxy series (Mainly directed to 2) is the hub, it feels bland, like level after level. But with sunshine it felt like an open fun world with a fun little plaza and all that stuff, I hope this one is a more open game like 64 and sunshine with and amazing hub. I want it to be original though, not a sequel.

    • Mr. Hobo

Oddly enough, I have had that same feeling, but only in Super Mario 3D Land. The Galaxy series seemed fine to me.

      • Oum’Bushay

I didn’t mind galaxy 1 but 2 was too not open, ya know?

  • Steven McCall

I liked the Galaxy series, but i’ll always have a soft spot for Mario Sunshine, I just thought it was such a fun joyous game ๐Ÿ™‚

  • peter griffin

why would you want rehashes when this is an amazing opportunity to utilize the wii u controller in ways never thought of with a new mario.

  • Takarashi282

We don’t really need another sequel of Sunshine or Galaxy. What I want is something original for the Mario series.

  • kreigen

    i want mario rpg 2

  • raindog469

I want something with blue skies, huge environments (not just tiny bits of level spread far apart) and exploratory, non-linear gameplay. I’d also like something that bypasses the usual “green world, ice world, fire world, underwater world” progression. Sunshine is closer than Galaxy to what I want, and I loved its style. But the water pack was an albatross at times, and maybe Nintendo needs something fresher than either of those two things. What’s wrong with the good ol’ Mushroom Kingdom?

Edit: Oh yeah, and the hub world in Sunshine was by far the best of all of them. I spent hours just exploring Delfino Plaza, getting shines and 1ups and finding those wacky hidden bits that took half an hour to get (like riding Yoshi on a couple of boats out to that island to get to the acid river level). The Mario Galaxy hub worlds were tiny in comparison. Even Mario 64’s had more to do than those.

  • Zelda6478

Galaxy 3, I love the galaxy series because it was so original with its wacky and imaginative worlds! Just hated playing with the wiimote and nunchuck. It would be perfect for the wii gamepad!

  • Ryan House

It would be Cool if Square and Nintendo Teamed up again and made a True Super Mario RPG Legend of the seven stars sequel. of course I don’t want it to be called “legend of the seven stars 2”

    • Ryan House

That is still my most favorite RPG. Its never being SOLD

    • Leo

I second that. A sequel for Mario RPG by Square is everything i could ask for.

  • brandon braun

i miss the sunshine series they you guys have been workin on galaxy for 3 years try sunshine

    • Ryan House

SunShine is Very Challenging. I’m sure you could find it on ebay. I bought a Used Players Guide just this year since I have such a tough time with that game. I’ve had it since it launched on Gamecube. As long as your Wii Can play Gamecube games

OK I read Wrong I thought you said MISSED

  • Jeff Andonuts

I’m going with Super Mario Sunshine 2.

  • Johny

    wow impressive boxarts

  • Ryan House

Who actually made these Fake Box Arts they are so Well DOne

  • Ryan House

What if the new game is just called “Super Mario U” along the lines of Super Mario 64

  • Myles Rodriguez

    Super Mario Galaxy 3!

  • JulioCHB

prefiero que sea una ip diferente: Mario SunGalaxy perhaps? jajaja

  • Myron Bernard

Super Luigi Galaxy ftw… and Super Luigi Kart while we’re at it!

  • Nicolas Dorion

  • Aidan Ceszynski

How about a game that combines the best qualities of Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario 3D Land and the Super Mario Galaxies into a brand-new game? It should also include Luigi, Peach, Yoshi and Wario as playable characters (Toad and Waluigi, I couldn’t care either way, but it would be kind of cool) and occasional 2D platforming as well as introducing new mechanics into 3D like the Penguin Suit.

  • Jason Setley

  • Mario

I can’t choose! The both look so cool!

  • Guest

Super Mario Sunshine 2. I’d love the first Mario Sunshine, who doesn’t?

  • Why choose. Make both. Sell more.

  • Mvasd

i can see how this can be “Faked” just leaked by nintendo to see what to release first and just getting some Customer feedback… if so …. Well playied and if not ,Well done on the people to make those

  • TaintedXGamer

Super princess peach U, peach can kick ass (as seen in melee/brawl and her DS Game) Princess should not be a damsel in distress NO MORE! and the game case will be a Shocking pink And I will buy it!

  • Jon

neither, I want a new mario game all together.

  • Saul Rivera

It’ll surely be something new…if not we would have seen a Super Mario World 3…or a Mario 64 2…it’s a new title for each generation of their consoles if they keep the trend…
The GC was Sunshine…the Wii was Galaxy…so for the Wii U don’t expect a sequel for those past games…

    • steinhauershawn

3DS got GameCube Sequel though. “Luigi’s Mansion 2:Dark Moon”

      • Arthur Jarret

But also a unique 3D mario with ‘Super Mario 3D Land’

  • Guest

Mario needs an open world environment with hidden STARS to collect as a cross between Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine. I didn’t enjoy the Galaxy series as much because of the very limited exploration. Walking around the edges of those little rocks sometimes gave me a headache. I miss the freedom of Mario 64 like taking a huge fly to the sky and nosedive in some enemy. Banjo Kazooie took that concept and improved it a lot. I miss that kind of freedom in a Mario environment.

  • Leo

If they do that, they should license Capcom characters such as Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield as hidden easter-eggs to find.

  • METHical reality

    Super Luigi Moonlight

    • Arthur Jarret

      Super Luigi Moonshine

At least it’ll explain the talking mushrooms and flying dinosaurs…

  • Brennero Pardo Centanaro

sunshine please, been waiting for the sequel

  • Mark Thom

  • John Andalora

I hope that it’s neither. I want something new.
If it’s one of these, I’d go with sunshine because it’s at least not had a sequel.
But, my preference is that Nintendo thinks of something new and unique rather than making the same game with a new number.

  • ezquimacore

    Super Mario 64SunGalazyofTime

  • peeer

I’d prefer completely a brand new fresh Mario, altho Sunshine and Galaxy were both nice at their days. I’d personally like if Nintendo used some classic gameplay aspect from Super Mario 3D Land and combine to an Adventure kind of Mario. Also if they take flower power or any other old powerups like that from the first Mario games I hope they don’t make them with timer to disapear like in Galaxy, that really sucked.

  • julianmario

    Sunshine 2

  • Marius Valasinas

    Sunshine 2 indeed

  • JSC31994

    Why not both?
But if I had to choose I’d go for Mario Sunshine 2.
BUT i want a completely new mario game.

  • Juhis815

Fake cover-arts look very stunning, but it’s just the 11th day of June that we know through Nintendo Direct what stuff we expect to see from new 3D Mario platformer.

  • invible

Super Mario sunshine is awesome so was the first Mario galaxy but 2nd galaxy was terrible I so want it to be super Mario sunshine 2. By judging what said in the txt Nintendo said they are working n a BRAND NEW 3D MARIO GAME by that it sounds like neither.

  • Jordao Simons

    Why not?

  • Nicholas Sara

    Sunshine definitely!

  • InterTreble

Whatever is going to come from Nintendo Direct, it’ll be part of the most powerful system-seller series ever. Wii U is more than alive.

  • Marcell Wade

Well, we can argue about it for years, but we are going to find out in less than two weeks what Nintendo plans to give us, and I know what ever it is, it’s going to be awesome & in HD. ^.^

    • Arthur Jarret

I object, and suggest to move to ban all outside media or references from this website under any of the aforementioned penalties – so we can continue to debate this future game without having to be disrupted by any announcement pertaining the actual content of said game.

  • Andrew Longo

i like the box art! definitely sunshine 2, if they need to blow minds with some hd graphics this is where its at

  • mhm

    Super Mario Sunshine 2!!!

  • Frank

It’s official, this overshadows the underselling Wii U in N. america

  • ancientgamer

wish super mario rpg 2 was a choice

    • Arthur Jarret

This, or Paper Luigi – I want to play all those adventures he bragged about during TTYD!

      • ancientgamer

that would be cool, thousand year door was a good one

        • ancientgamer

i personality dont consider galaxy a 3d world, its more of an over head 2d perspective, ya you can move left n right but the lvls are so narrow its almost pointless we need a new mario 64/sunshine type game

      • ancientgamer

the articles wording suggest a new type 3d hence they said brand new and not just new, but that just maybe the authors doing

  • ancientgamer

im thinking its a new mario title, in the article he says brand new 3d mario and not just new 3d mario, maybe im reading to much into it

  • Sam

  • poo

I love super mario galaxy 3

  • A SNES Day Off

There’s a better chance for ‘Sunshine’ to get a new release as it’s more open to new possibilities. Galaxy has been nice, but I can’t help feeling that a third instalment would lack originality as the player is still tied to the planet level system.

  • fabio tavares

    new mario 64!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Mochlum

I had a spit take when I saw the picture for this article. Then I read the title…. (sigh). BTW, I’d rather have Sunshine 2. Taking the Sunshine formula and tweaking it could perfect it. I just don’t want another Galaxy rehash.

  • Ben Vangenechten

To be fair, i would be sad is they made another sequel to any 3D Mario for Wii U. Or as the main and first 3D Mario for the game… it’s like them going to re-use the flying and driving underwatter, it won’t feel right and Nintendo to do that.

  • Kenshin0011

Neither, I think they’ll be making a true, epic sequel to Mario 64. So it won’t have a special theme of space or the beach, but will be in the classic mario world with a huge world and great graphics

  • BOTH!!!!!!!!

  • Jamal Brown

    super Mario galaxy 3

  • lonewolf88

lol they made this after i posted my comment. :S

  • willo10

Glad you found good use of my Galaxy box.

  • aldo2410

I dont want to start a discussion so Im going to sit here, play gameboy (yes I still have my GB advance) and wait for the E3.

  • Carly Rae Jepson

Okay guys listen to me. It’s only a theory (a bad one at that) but i noticed something. You see how the GC and Wii U logos one the front of every game box are the same, just different color. And you know how Sunshine was on the GC? I think it will be Sunshine. But still, this theory is weak.

  • gfdgf

Why have another Galaxy game when Galaxy 2 perfected it? To me it seems like a no-brainer to stop with the Galaxy games and do something new.

  • Seth S. Scott

    super mario sunshine 2!

  • I saw her!Rosalina on SMG3 artwork!

  • thedeciderU

i hope it’s something all new

They Should Do Both Games! I Tell Ya!

  • zero909309

i really hope its sunshine 2 i felt it played better and had a better theme than galaxy 1&2 but i love them all but sunshine is my absolute favorite 1 of all them!

  • Josiah Parsons

    Galaxy 3

  • Agent721

I want something new, so Sunshine 2 would be newer than Galaxy 3.

  • Kirbyomega

I always wanted to play Sunshine but I never did.. Now’s my chance ^-^

  • CaRminE420

I know there are some die hard sunshine fans out there, but it was pretty much the worst Mario game. It wasn’t a bad game, because there has never been a bad Mario game, but it’s the weakest of the bunch. I’d prefer a new Galaxy, what I actually want is a totally new game.

  • disqus_c39xUtm3WM

anyone using the gamepad for internet surfing check out the bottom controls next to your mii it looks like there is liqiud flowing between the controls in the background …. kindof neat.

  • Sapero

Sunshine 2, but wuld rather see a new and original mario game…

  • Charley Abrams

I think I would rather see a 3D Mario in the Mushroom Kingdome. Galaxy was good, but made me dizzy. I think it would also be cool to have it in Sup. Mario Bros 2 dreamland setting.

  • Brendan Tate

i would by both but i would choose super mario galaxy if they add real co-op instead of the star as second player first player could be mario second could be luigi

  • Kai Shepherd

Neither. Nintendo needs to not repeat the same game over and over again. They did a brilliant thing making Galaxy 1. New concept. I am ok with that. Galaxy 2 – well, that was a bit of a cop out wasn’t it. Galaxy 3? I will genuinely be disappointed if I don’t see a change in Nintendo’s tactics soon. They will just end up hurting them selves, financially and structurally.

    • Destructonator101

True, we don’t need another galaxy. A sunshine 2 would be cool, but nintendo needs new mario settings, not just remakes or sequels.

  • Fuzunga

Definitely Galaxy 3, though I’m sure they’re working on something new.

  • Destructonator101

Maybe a VC for Mario sunshine, But not the Wii Us mario game. We need new!NEW NEW NEW!

  • Tristian Comer

what are some of your favorite minigames/bonus games/bonus areas in the Mario franchise? What are some ideas that you guys have of some minigames you’d like to see in Super Mario U?

  • Tiago Gomes

Why dont make a multiplayer Mario Sunshine =)?

  • William Cole

Those are some legit box art images.
