When it comes to the competition, it’s always nice to hear good words. That’s exactly what Microsoft’s Phil Spencer has done, stating he believes that Nintendo’s first party IP catalogue is amazing. Spencer also had nice words for Sony, admitting the company has done a nice job with the direction of the PlayStation 4. Here’s what Microsoft Studios VP had to say about Nintendo:

“Nintendo, I think – and there’s some argument about this – that their first-party is such an amazing asset. Their first party studios and IP can lead what they do as a company and the platforms are almost in service to the IP – not in a bad way.

They have such iconic stories and this will seem somewhat random, but when we go back and do something like Killer Instinct, a little bit of the history of your franchise can actually be important part of people feeling connected. Obviously the history of Killer Instinct isn’t a history on Xbox, but it’s Rare’s history and I think the reaction when we announced it on-stage at E3 showed that playing to the people’s heart, I think Nintendo does that as well as anybody in terms of hitting the franchises and having huge success with them.”

Of course, the Killer Instinct tie in comes from the original release of Killer Instinct on the Super Nintendo, back when Rareware was a second-party developer for Nintendo before Microsoft bought them out. It’s nice to see Spencer acknowledge that Nintendo has some of the best IPs in the gaming industry, though.

I don’t like the way Microsoft do things with their gaming systems at times, but this was nice to hear. It’s good when other people high up can still give respect to where respect is due. Just because the Wii U had a very poor early start, it doesn’t mean that should take away from Nintendo’s genius and their high level of creativity since the 80’s. It would be ignorant to think otherwise.

    • Dj

Yeah they make me mad because of their greediness, but hearing these words from one of them makes me like them a bit more

    • Inferno Uprising

Everybody seems to be nice to the Wii U like its not even part of their competition. That can be a good and a bad thing because they know that When Nintendo releases Super Smash Bros 4 and Mario Kart 8 and Legend of Zelda that the Wii U is going to get a lot of sales on behalf of those games. I just hope that there isn’t a lot of crap towards nintendo after they release their games. Even though I know that there will some.

      • D.M.T

Everyone seems to be nice to Wii U? You sure about that? Only a few people have been nice to it while everyone else keeps saying that Wii U is “hard to develop for” or it’s “not next gen” or “underpowered”. Wii U is actually the most hated console of all time for no legit reason.

        • Inferno Uprising

I meant like important people like microsoft and sony

        • ChariotMan7

          True Facts!

        • Magnus Eriksson

          – lack of third party
          – bad Virtual Console support
          – still no N64, GBA support as announced last year
          – slow releases
          – unable to deliver new games at promised time
          – no TVii
          – no GCN support on Virtual Console
          – the best looking games on last gen consoles looks better than most Wii U titles
          – few games show the potential of the pad
          – too much safe playing on games released
          – no internal harddrive
          – slow OS, even after update
          – dodgy online
          – very few system sellers
          – little variety of games 1st&2nd party, NSMBU, NSLU, DKCF etc
          – the pad is less impressive than your phone
          – it failed

You are such a fanboy. There are hundreds of reasons that people could be disappointed with the Wii U. So stop it with this Hate for no reason crap. Maybe you like it, than good for you. But people can have good reasons for not thinking the same as you.

          • readypembroke

            1. There isn’t much because they are pussies by saying it is hard to develop for even though is really isn’t.
            2. It’s called Wii Mode. You won’t die from using it.
            3. It will take time for them to make emulators for those two consoles for the Wii U. Hell, if you are complaining about VC support either again use Wii Mode OR pull out the old Nintendo 64.
            4. What do you mean by slow releases? VC? If so, I can agree you on that.
            5. OOOO!! WOW!!! a game gets delayed 2-4 months. You can wait. They delayed some of their games so they can be better than if it came out the previous date.
            5. TVii is ok but I don’t really use it at all.
            6. If you are so concerned about no GameCube VC, pull out your old GameCube. Guess what? Problem SOLVED!!!
            7. Most multiplatform games look like crap on the Wii U is because the developers don’t really care about it dumbass.
            8. Who cares? As long as it uses it in a ok way, I am fine.
            9. This one makes NO sense.
            10. Who gives a crap about no internal hard drive? The Wii survived last gen and didn’t contain a hard drive. If you wanted to have more memory, all you had to do is to get a SD Card. Something very similar can be said with the Wii U also. All you have to do is to go get a external hard drive.
            11. The OS isn’t slow, it is doing what it is supposed to do.
            12. Dodgy online hmm? I find nothing dodgy about Nintendo Network and the games that use it. If you are complaining about lag, just buy a damn wired adapter. I did and I was happy. No lag in SSBB and Call of Duty.
            13. Same thing can be said for the Xbox One and PS4 currently. Like Battlefield 4: it is on BOTH current gen and next gen. Same for Assassin’s Creed IV, Call of Duty Ghosts, Madden, Fifa, the stupid Angry Birds game, and many more.
            14. Little variety of games can be said for the PS4 and the One also.
            15. This one is total BS. On my phone I can’t play Assassin’s Creed 3 and Call of Duty on it while I can on the GamePad.
            16. This is 100% pure fanboy.

And guess what? My fanboy meter is totally going off and so is my troll meter. They’re picking you up. Crawl back up MS or Sony’s crack. We don’t want you here.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Oh, I was actually going to answer your post, but in the end of it I realized you are not able to grasp it anyways. So I wont waste time on that. And no, im here to stay. But you could always leave – I care not.

          • grone

LOOOOL!!! im going to laught in ur FACE when the people at the end buy the wiiu and put it next to their ps4 or Xbone, including U!!! even with that crap u are saying,

          • D.M.T

Thank you for proving my point Magnus. You don’t have good reasons to hate the Wii U. People who hate the Wii U for those reasons you mentioned are losers and they need help because they have issues.

            – It’s not the Wii U’s fault that it lacks 3rd party support. 3rd party developers are to blame for this.
            – No one should care much about Virtual Console. You buy a Wii U to play Wii U games, not old games.
            – So you’re mad because you can’t play old ass N64 and GBA games? Lol
            – Slow releases = better games. Learn to be patient.
            – Games are delayed to make them better you idiot. That’s better than Ubisoft and other companies rushing their games.
            – TVii is available in North America
            – You want to play GCN games? Ok then buy a GCN.
            – Blame 3rd parties, not the Wii U. You should be hating 3rd party devs.
            – It’s a 1 year old console, have some patience รกsshole. More games will show the potential of the GamePad in the future.
            – Too much safe playing? What does that even mean?
            – No Internal harddrive? Buy a cheap external harddrive. Problem solved. You’re welcome.
            – Actually the OS is not slow anymore.
            – The online is fine, maybe your internet sucks.
            – I guess you should hate PS4 and XBO more because they have no system sellers at all lol. At least Wii U has a few.
            – If Wii U has little variety than PS4 and XBO has no variety at all. Shooter after shooter and sport after sport games.
            – The GamePad is just a controller with a touchscreen on it. It’s not supposed to be a tablet or handheld you retard.
            – Actually no it didn’t fail.

The word fanboy doesn’t offend me so keep calling me a fanboy. I rather be a fanboy than a hater like you. And no I won’t stop saying that the hate is for no reason. I’ll say whatever I want and if you don’t like it you can do 2 things, you can either ignore me or you can leave Wii U Daily.

          • Joe Jack

He’s just trolling. Good Old Magnus :p

          • D.M.T

Good old Magnus? He’s a terrible troll. Trolls are supposed to have a sense of humor and this dude is not funny at all.

          • cs_shane

So, whenever someone posts facts, you call them a troll? Unbelievable!

          • Marcus Larsson

Why is it that we should blame the third party devs?
It’s nintendos job to get them to want to develope for the wii u.
If they believe that their games won’t sell on wii u they won’t develope for it, and that’s where Nintendo is suppose to step in and sell their system.
Just like sony and Microsoft does with their system.

And Magnus is correct about to little games are using the touch screen and the wiimotes isn’t as fun anymore as It used to be.

I’m not a troll but I am f-ing disappointed with my wii u at this moment.

          • D.M.T

The Wii sold 100 million and didn’t get support from 3rd parties. The 3DS is the bestselling gaming system and it’s not getting 3rd party support so why should we blame Nintendo? It’s obvious that Wii U’s install base has nothing to do with the lack of 3rd party support.

Yeah few games are using the touchscreen but should we be worried? Not really since the Wii U is only 1 year old.

If you’re disappointed with your Wii U then sell it and buy a PS4 or Xbox One. Those systems have no games at the moment but maybe there’s something there that you wanna play. I’m pretty happy with my Wii U and I can’t wait for Donkey Kong next month.

          • Marcus Larsson

Both wii and 3ds has/had third party developers because of the sales numbers.

But when the system doesn’t sell and the third partys run that’s where Nintendo should step in like they did back in the GameCube-era.

It shouldn’t have to take one year, both the xbox and ps4 will probably have double the amount of good quality games in 9 months.

          • D.M.T

Wii didn’t have support from 3rd party developers. Almost all of their great games skipped the Wii. 3DS doesn’t have a lot of support either, even though it is the bestselling gaming system right now.

PS4 and Xbox One will probably have double the amount of quality games in 9 months but that’s only because most of those games will be from 3rd parties aka games that were not developed by Sony and Microsoft themselves. Those 2 companies depend heavily on 3rd party support while Nintendo doesn’t need a lot of support from 3rd parties to be successful.

          • Joe Jack

Well i have nothing to disaprove you wrong :p. But you have really good facts here.

          • cs_shane

Once again, FACTS DO NOT EQUAL TROLL! I cannot believe some of you “fanboys”. Why don’t any of you wake up and smell the reality?!

          • Magnus Eriksson

“There are hundreds of reasons that people could be disappointed with the Wii U”

Did you understand this part? PEOPLE. REASONS. COULD BE.

What does that mean? Think about it for a while and give it another shot. Im not a hater, but you are. Because you do not have the ability to think in other terms than black or white, thats the characteristic of a hater – fanboyism is about hate, but you didnt get this yet. Im neither a fanboy nor a hater.

          • D.M.T

“Because you do not have the ability to think in other terms than black or white, thats the characteristic of a hate”

LOL that’s the FUNNIEST thing I’ve ever heard in my life. I’ve been saying for months now that people shouldn’t have a black or white mentality which means that I’m actually an open minded person. You are the closed minded person here, not me lol.

And how am I a hater or a fanboy? I’m simply defending the Wii U from YOUR hatred. You’re the one giving me many stupid reasons why you and others hate the Wii U which means that you are a Wii U hater. You don’t see me hating the PS4 or the Xbox One or the PC or the 3DS or the Vita so how am I a hater? Do you even know what a hater is? Lol. I like all 3 console makers for different reasons. Nintendo for its innovation, original ideas and love for video games, Sony for its hunger for success and relationship with 3rd parties and Microsoft for their cool software and hardware products.

I’ve owned consoles from all 3 company so I’m not a fanboy at all but you can keep thinking I am, I don’t care lol. Yes hundreds of reasons why people could be disappointed with the Wii U, I understand that but 99% of those reasons are STUPID. Your reasons are stupid. You are not a fanboy, congrats, but you are a hater. Trolls = haters and guess what? You are this website’s troll.

          • cs_shane

“One year old console”. THAT DOESN’T EXCUSE THE DEVELOPERS WHO HAVE HAD THE CONSOLE SINCE 2011, or earlier! Devs should be compelled to create unique games that showcase how the Wii U is different from the competition dumb ass!

“Too safe playing”. HAVE YOU SEEN Mario 3D World? Grant it it’s a fun game, it doesn’t have that “wow” factor that Galaxy had.

“Buy an external hard drive” Looks at the competition. Sees they have 500GB INTERNAL HDDs by default. What’s Nintendo’s excuse? Nothing!

“Slow releases = Good games”.. Well, incase your living under a rock, that’s why Nintendo created the Wii U! Game Devs can now patch / update their games, so the slow release point is moot.

“Online is fine”. No it is not. No major multiplayer games from Nintendo. Poor excuses. Pikmin 3 = “too many objects”. Mario 3D World = “wouldn’t work”.

“I guess you should hate PS4 and XBO as they have no system sellers at all”. Then, please explain to me how both have managed to sell 2+ million if there are no “System Sellers”. Oh, Wii U does NOT have a few. Which ones? Pikmin 3? Nope. Wonderful 101? Nope. Mario 3D World? Not really.

“The gamepad isn’t supposed to be a tablet or handheld”. Well it sure looks like it’s supposed to be!

“Actually no it didn’t fail”. *barfs*. So, selling 4.x million in ONE YEAR while PS4 and XBO sell that amount combined in 2 MONTHS is not failing? WAKE UP! THAT IS A CLASSIC “FAIL”!

          • grone

well!! tell me what game on ps3, that is not shooter, showed that WOW! u are talking about!!

          • D.M.T

Yeah 3rd party developers have had Wii U dev kits since 2011 and yet they haven’t made games for it. Shame on them.

Super Mario 3D World is not supposed to be as great as Galaxy dumbass. 3D World is just a sequel to 3D Land on 3DS.

The Wii U would be more expensive if it had an internal HDD and external HDDs are really cheap these days so it makes more sense for me to buy an external 1TB HDD and have more space than the competition.

No assholes, games shouldn’t be patched or updated. Games are supposed to be finished day 1. Why would you want to buy broken games at full price? Are you retarded? It’s better to delay them and fix the problems before launch.

Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. will have online.

PS4 and Xbox One are selling because of the hype. Isn’t that obvious? The media hyped the PS4 and Xbox One like no other. Sony and Microsoft fans know that there aren’t any great games on those systems right now but they still bought those consoles because they want “next gen graphics”. Pikmin 3 should be a system seller, same with Wonderful 101. And Mario 3D World IS a system seller.

No retard, the GamePad isn’t supposed to be a tablet or handheld lol. It’s just a controller with a touchscreen on it, nothing more.

PS4 and XBO are overhyped and overrated consoles, that’s why they sold that much in 2 months while the Wii U is underrated and hated which is why it has sold 5 million (not 4 million). The best word to describe Wii U’s situation is struggle, not failure.

          • ETMew2348

          • Simon Stevens

All of this is true minus last gen games looking worse for wear on it, were third party is concerned, games that are also on ps3 and 360, I see no real difference, graphically, but gameplay seems very cut down in comparison, Nintendo games look out of this world though, maybe that’s just my tv though?, because I’ve seen them on others and eughhh it’s not worth a mention lol, and the gamepad has nothing on my phone but it’s not bad, I just find games look too grainy to play on offtv, I love the Wii U, but it has a lot of things not going for it lately, flash player being a huge bummer for me, all I wanted was to be able to watch my footy (soccer) links without hassle, didn’t even get that lol I’m still hopeful though

          • ETMew2348

all i have to say is wow

      • cs_shane

Games do not equal sales. Look at Mario 3D World. Sure it may have moved a couple of Wii U units, but what Wii U needs is PROPER marketing in order to have any chance of recovery.

  • Yousif Alromaithi

Microsoft is a great company but some people hate their decision and that is true Microsoft does a lot mistakes with their product but still deliver it’s quality.

  • Graeme Lynch

    Thanks Phil that was insightful…

  • And don’t forget Killer Instinct Gold on the N64 and the arcade equivelants. But is that why MS bought rareware because they thought they also owned Donkey Kong when purchasing rareware?

KK that last part was way under the belt, I’m sorry. It’s good to hear though that MS has some nice words about Nintendo. If just the adopters of their systems and sony’s systems could take a wise lesson out of that as well, sadly most can’t.

  • Sdudyoy

I don’t understand why people dislike other consoles so much, I understand It’s a matter of opinion but some of the stuff people say is just immature.

    • Squid

It’s usually because we also get trolls, or it’s that in real life, all your friends have another system.

      • Sdudyoy

Yeah, I’ve never understood trolls, I’ve always been taught to be nice to people, so I try to be nice to people over the internet too, I just don’t get how they can be so immature.

    • DragonSilths

Humans are immature. Maturity really doesn’t exist. Everyone just is the way the are.

      • Ashman997

Maturity does exist it comes with you know being mature

        • DragonSilths

Maturity isn’t a physical thing. There is no science behind it. People can claim to be mature, but there is no test that proves it or not. An actor can act mature.

          • Ashman997

Darkness is real but that isn’t physical and also I know people can act mature because that’s what maturity is an idea, that’s why teenagers get told to ACT maturely instead of just being mature but that idea still exists.

          • DragonSilths

You can see Darkness, or technically when you cant see that’s darkness so that’s how its existence is proven. Though when you close your eyes Darkness is there as well. Still cant see maturity.

    • Marcus Larsson

I believe that it is in our genes from decades of village-protection and standing behind “our people/beliefs/teams” etc.

We just love to compete that’s about it

    • InterTreble

This is exacly what I cannot understand. Videogames means entertainment enjoying, having fun… Why some people want the death of Wii U, or PS4, or Xbox, I don’t know. What’s Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft haters for, I don’t know. I think they are ungry for other reasons, or immature, as you told. Happy gaming to everybody, whatever console and in general support (PC, smartphone, tablet, etc.) they are going to play on.

    • Elitepwnsface

Well to me its about the exclusives. If a console doesn’t have enough exclusive games i don’t see them worth the purchase. Right now i would agree the wii u is probably the only new console warranting a purchase because of its exclusive library.

  • Shagrath1983

Nintendo does not rely on third party like Sony and MS, This is why they make bank on doing things there way, If I wanted a multiplat machine I would get an X1 only because of its online stability and great collaboration with 3rd parties.

    • Squid

      But KH 3

      • Angel Lopez

Kingdom Hearts 3 is also on the Xbox One

        • Squid

Hmm, now I REALLY don’t know why this game can’t be on Wii U

    • Graeme Lynch

Sony have many first party titles so I don’t know why you would say Sony rely on 3rd party games.
If you really want a multiplatform machine get a PC.

      • InsaneZucchini

They do have many, and a lot of them are great. They certainly don’t utilize them enough though and just look at Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale for example, at least half of the characters in that game were third party characters and it didn’t exactly have that extensive a roster. And their first party titles haven’t been making it into their top 10 or 20 best selling games enough. Like almost all of the games in their top 5 most sold games for the PS3 were Call of Duty. They do rely on third parties, because imagine if they didn’t have those, it took forever for them to start turning a profit off the PS3 as it is, without those third-party games the Playstation brand may have vanished by now.

        • Graeme Lynch

Okay I should have acknowledged that Sony do rely on the sales of 3rd party games. I was just highlighting that Sony have many wonderful first party games that sell millions as the OP didn’t seem to believe.

          • darkcreap

Think also on the Vita. Nintendo is lucky they have good IP to turn the lucks of 3DS and (maybe) the bad luck of WiiU. I have heard that Vita is not getting a lot of third party support due to some third parties jumping to the 3DS. Sad thing is that Vita is a great machine, but if Sony does not do something for it, it will have a grim future. WiiU at least will get a lot of support from Nintendo.

          • Graeme Lynch

To be honest I don’t think you can compare the vita and the WiiU that way. The vita is a great handheld console, while the WiiU is a great home console. I guess both share similar problems though in terms of lack of 3rd party support. Sony are allegedly going to put more resources into the vita especially now with the remote play function. We shall see.

          • darkcreap

“I guess both share similar problems though in terms of lack of 3rd party support”

Exactly, that was the point of my comparison: the lack of third party support. In some way, both systems have been ditched by 3rd parties. “We do not see it clear, we are not jumping aboard”. That’s the terrible issue. Even if the platform is great, they do not give it a chance and the only saviour can be first party games for both platforms.

It is fun that some third parties complaint that Nintendo does not consult them to make their platforms, but afterwards they do not mind leaving a platform to their luck after what the first party did.

Most likely, Nintendo did not consult many developers what to do about the 3DS, but very likely Sony did indeed consult third parties for the Vita. Were they grateful to Sony for that? No, many paid it by going to the 3DS.

      • Jonathan George Anaya

He also pointed out ONLINE STABILITY. Sony doesn’t offer that lol

        • Graeme Lynch

In what way does Sony not offer online stability?

    • Alex

Actually their is more 3rd party games that will be exclusive to WiiU but we don’t know what it is.

  • Flawless Victory

    Appreciate the positivity.

  • Eoin Mulhern

Of course they are. That’s why people buy Nintendo consoles to play these first part games in the first place.

Bring back Banjo + Conker! Halo is no longer enough for me to buy an Xbox.

    • Yousif Alromaithi

I love gears one of my best game of last generation.

      • Jonathan George Anaya

My Ex tatted the Crimson Omen on her shoulder blade! It went well with the Triforce on her back

        • Bob Charlie

Somebody isn’t over their ex, me thinks! ๐Ÿ˜‰

        • Yousif Alromaithi

Nice and awesome looks lovely on her I bet.

  • Squid

Cool, I can appreciate this company after dealing with so many trolls.

  • Javier Smith

What is kind of ironic about this statement is that with the acquisition of Rare, Microsoft has almost as many “amazing” IPs.

The grass is always greener on the other side. I wish Microsoft would make a Conker, Banjo Kazooie, Battletoads, Kameo or even a Perfect Dark game. They are sitting on so much gold it’s not even funny.

Killer Instinct is a start, but I’m still leaning toward a PS4 unless Microsoft can change my mind.

    • Javier Smith

Also, I’m aware of Nuts and Bolts and Conker: Reloaded. They don’t count because they are awful, awful games.

      • extremethunder

Microsoft got RARE and the RARE IPs, but sadly they did not get the talent that made those IPs great (which is why the current RARE talent is on Kinect games)

        • Javier Smith

Yup, so maybe that is another caveat to Spencer’s comment.

An IP is made great by developers, it isn’t automatic.

    • InsaneZucchini

Seriously, they totally need to make another Kameo, bought around when we first got the Xbox 360, is was so great. Perfect Dark Zero is still also one of my favorite games on the 360, as far as I’m concerned it’s online multiplayer is still unmatched for fun, the community for it just dissolved over time, or at least the ones I could understand. Disappointing that Rare has basically been shelved into Kinect only games.

  • Noel Canales

Hold on guys, don’t console bash. Plenty of love to go around. Bashing is equivilant to saying you hate brunetts, blonds, or redheads, but you can’t forget they can all be hot!

    • Zizo47

Somehow I get the feeling that big names at Microsoft and Sony make the occasional nice comment about Nintendo whilst behind the scenes they are fueling the Nintendoom propaganda…

      • D.M.T

That’s exactly what they’re doing behind the scenes. Sony will do anything to win, same with Microsoft.

        • Zizo47

I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Not sure but this kind of feels like a PR stunt to make Microsoft look like Mr Nice Guy. I think it goes without saying that over the history of video gaming that Nintendo has always been recognized for having some of the top game IPs in the world. Basically he is stating the obvious and I think it is to make Microsoft look like the good guy.

    • Nostalgic_Chaos

Or, it was probably just genuine seen as Nintendo have been getting a lot of stick for the past year and genuinely wanted to be a positive voice among the dirt which had been surrounding the Wii U in it’s early stages. Microsoft have enough publicity right now, and sales are going okay for them. I don’t currently see the motive for them trying to come off as the nice guy.

      • It could be but after years of Microsoft screwing over competitors in the gaming world I have my reservations. I do not know this person personally so I will hope that these are his personal opinions and not something coached to be said for a PR stunt.

  • There’s no arguments about Nintendo’s first party being good or not. We all know Nintendo make great games and that’s because of the passionate developers. MOST gamer’s in this day and age started with Nintendo or have had a Nintendo console at some point in their life and those are good memories, the memories from those old games continue to live on in the games that Nintendo create today.

  • kaygivs

i don’t feel like microsoft and sony are even nintendo’s competitors. i feel as though most actual gamers would get wii u and then choose between pc, xbox, and ps

  • Pucker

If the Wii U has specs like the Xbox One and PS4 can you imagine what Super Mario World 3D would look like. It looks amazing now.

    • Patrick Starman

It’s hard to imagine 3D World looking any better than it does now.

      • Inferno Uprising

Just Imagine What the new Zelda will look like.

    • LoZ4life98

Oh my gosh. That would be… idk. I don’t even want to think about it.

    • Jon

it would probably look similar to what it is now. Graphics wise, we are at a time where you can barely notice the difference in graphics on hardware. You need to look very hard and pretty much compare them side by side while pausing to see the differences. Sure you might be able to get a few more details in such as stuff blowing, rains/snow or other particles, but over all, not really that much of a difference. Take AC IV for example. they look so close to the same as it is, only on the PS4 and such, you have just those few more details added.

      • yolobrololol

This talk about that the limit of what graphics can do is reached is the stupidest thing I ever heard. As stupid as people in 1900 century thought there were no more things to discover.

  • readypembroke

Excuse me but I smell a case of the suck ups.

    • Rinslowe

Nothing wrong with being on the receiving end of a well delivered “suck up” on occasion…

  • starwars360

It is great to knew Microsoft respects to Nintendo. Nintendo had said in far past about Nintendo though Microsoft is great for became console gaming business.

It is good to know Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft shares and friendly business. That is important for gaming industry businesses. ๐Ÿ™‚

Love all 3 best first party publishers and developers in world!!!!

  • LJay

Am i the only one who reads this as”nintendo are great but look what we have now”? Just pure MS suckup nice guy pr bs-they only got where did in the console business by throwing cash around hence Rare,i hope they sink like lead balloons!

As for Rare,i loved them since waay back in the 8 bit days but without Nintendos backing in the 90s they wouldnt have been as good-Nintendo knew what they were doing when they sold them.

    I awate the flames.

    • Graham Wallace

Actually Rare have always been great developers. On the Spectrum they were Ultimate Play The Game, and they made the best games (Atic Atak, Jetpac, Sabre Wulf, Underworlde, Knight Lore to name a few)

  • Leo

Playing to the people’s heart? Lol Microsoft brutally smashed our hearts when they bought Rare and destroyed the company.

    • Virus6

Nintendo sold Rare. Microsoft may have destroyed the company after they purchased, but Nintendo willingly gave up their share in the company

      • extremethunder

Considering Microsoft bought the controlling share of RARE, of course Nintendo is going to give up their share of the company. Its one thing when RARE still had controlling share of its own company, or if a 3rd party stepped in, but when its another console maker that owns more than 51% of the company it really doesn’t do Nintendo any good.

And technically RARE sold itself to Microsoft. Nintendo never had controlling share.

  • Rinslowe

This is certainly one from the back log…

    • oontz

That’s what I was thinking… read this a couple of weeks ago.

      • Christopher Acuna

        good for you.

        • oontz

yes, it IS good for me.

  • Burnannator

At least he’s being nice right?

  • Eduardo

    Microsoftโ€™s Phil Spencer is correct!

    • Bob Charlie

So is everyone else who has been saying Nintendo games are amazing since the 80’s…

  • BGhp

This part of this complement came out of pity, because we already know this

  • Bob Charlie

I do not understand why people are making a big deal out of this. It’s not even newsworthy. Does it really take the opinions of big wigs like Spencer to reaffirm that Nintendo makes great games? Cool that he said it, but I don’t see how it’s news.

More Wii U news! More previews! More reviews!

    • GmailIsDown

we need to be nice with each other

    • Christopher Acuna

It does for the Sony/Microsoft fanboys.

      • Bob Charlie

Why does it matter to them? A rich guy claims Nintendo’s IPs are amazing and that’s supposed to win over Sony/MS fans? Nintendo has made amazing games since the late 1980’s so how is this news?

        • Christopher Acuna

Because it is all doom and gloom for them in regards to Nintendo. So when they see something like this coming from their own camp it perks interest, or continues to fuel the doom and gloom. Either way this type get’s the panties twisted for a majority of the gaming community.

          • Bob Charlie

It’s not even mentioned on other gaming sites, though. It’s not news and that’s my complaint, if you want to call it that. Nobody really cares that he said Nintendo games are great because we all knew that. It’s an obvious comment, and this site continues to waste it’s limited resources on “Google searching” older or unimportant news.

  • Virus6

“…the platforms are almost in service to the IP โ€“ not in a bad way.”

This is what people don’t realize. Nintendo makes their platforms in such a way that the games wouldn’t be made anywhere else. That’s why you’ll NEVER see Mario or Zelda on anything other than a Nintendo platform.

It’s really funny that the likes of Shuhei Yoshida and Phil Spencer praise Nintendo, but their loyal mindless flunky fanboys can’t fathom the notion.

  • oontz

Ashley this is 12 days old. Please provide some new content for this site. People hate coming here and constantly finding articles or “news” pieces that they’ve already seen days or weeks before.

    • Christopher Acuna

      Go away.

      • oontz

Wow thanks for contributing, anything else meaningful you would like to add to the conversation?

Microsoft’s Phil Spencer AKA Micro transactions Phil Spencer.

  • Justin McQuillen

The simple fact is that if Nintendo doesn’t do well in console sales, Sony and Microsoft won’t do well either. Nintendo created the market and is the largest video game company in the world. Their success directly reflects on competitors.

    • gamerinexile

I don’t get why you were down-voted. I think people must have misunderstood you.

  • HypocritesRROD

Microsoft, looking for some love from Nintendo fans.

  • Vakua Dorn

Sorry, Phil, you can’t have it

  • Bob Charlie

    Where’s the news?!

  • Simon Stevens

Nice to see somebody optimistic about Nintendo’s ips, there a great bunch, Nintendo hardware is never up to scratch but there’s no doubt there ips make up for it, this suave good looking fucker doesn’t concern himself with “console wars”, good for him, it’s pretty pathetic and childish how anybody would, it’s hardware, not spurs chelsea and the gunners, geez

  • jrob23

Is Wii U Daily down or something. No updates for awhile ๐Ÿ™

    • Bob Charlie

They update their news more in one day than this site does in a month.

      • jrob23

yeah, I agree. I go to that site too. Also Mynintendonews.com, GoNintendo, NintendoWorldreport, and Nintenoenthusiast. I make my rounds once in a.m. once in p.m. Thanks!!

        • Bob Charlie

Thank you! Never tried Mynintendonews. See, WiiUdaily is still useful in a sense
          1 month until DKTF!!
