Nintendo:

Nintendo will be launching its NFC-featured Amiibo figures later this month with the release of Super Smash Bros for the Wii U. So far, Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart 8 are the only Wii U games that officially support Amiibo figures, but it’s safe to say that more Nintendo games will support them in the future. But what about other developers who wish to use Amiibo? Nintendo is quite open to that.

Speaking to IGN, Nintendo’s Licensing Manager Dmaon Baker said that the company is open to allowing third party developers use the Amiibo feature. He said that they’ve gotten “a ton of interest from our third-party partners”, adding that Nintendo is exploring different options and “what makes sense in terms of business models and levels if integration”.

Baker was very optimistic about the future of Amiibo, saying:

“Exactly what that’s going to be in the future, not only for third-party but first-party, that story has yet to be written. We’ve got a couple of examples of how it’s going to look today — but imagine the future, the sky is the limit.”

Super Smash Bros for Wii U and its Amiibo figures launch on November 21st in North America, and in early December in Europe and Japan. Be sure to check out a cool Amiibo trailer that showcases how the figures are used in the game.
