Wind Waker HD Wii UIt seemed like Nintendo took their time with Zelda Wind Waker HD, but in fact, it only took them about 6 months to port them game in HD to the Wii U. According to Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma in a new interview with 4Gamer, the development team spent six months porting the game to the new console, and improving the visuals to HD. In a previous interview with 4Gamer, Aonuma said that he wants to “stray from traditional Zelda formula” in the upcoming Wii U Zelda title.

Despite taking only six months, it didn’t come without challenges. Aonuma said his development team had to learn the new hardware, and that the “cell shaded look” was difficult to achieve on the Wii U.

We previously reported that Nintendo did get some help in porting Wind Waker HD. Developers from HexaDrive worked on the new, high resolution textures in the game.

Zelda Wind Waker has been available on the Wii U eShop for a while now, and the physical copy has just gone on sale. Have you tried the new Wind Waker HD yet? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section!

Why is this game full retail price again?

    • Maxwell Baumgarten

well technically its $10 less than full retail price

      • Arthur Jarret

Not where I live, it isn’t. 60 Euros – which is 20 euros more than kingdom hearts HD – a game that they had to remake from the ground up as they lost the source code for it, while they still added a second game in the package.

        • Petri

60 was for limited edition here, think it was around 45€ for normal, and eShop is being as retarded as ever 60€ for digital download.
But kind of agree, if it only took 6 months to remake it they should be asking less for it.

But as this is my first time with the game, I’m enjoying it my moneys worth.

          • Arthur Jarret

If you never had it on gamecube, it’s a no brainer no matter what the price is. Unfortunately I did have it on gamecube, so I got 3 ps3 games, 2 wii games an older wii u game and a ps2 game for the same price instead!

        • Yousif Alromaithi

Technically the graphics of Wind Waker was better. You can see Nintendo worked on it from ground too and Square never worked hard on FFX HD or Kingdom Hearts for that matter on doing remakes. Even though Square’s game took over two year of development Nintendo showed them who is the boss on remakes and did a better job than them.

        • Magnus Eriksson

It differs from place to place in Norway. Everything from 365 to 600 Nok. The digital version costs 499. Which is quite expensive.

          • Merrfn

I am sorry but Nok is the weirdest name for a currency I have ever heard.

Does it mean something in Norwegian?

        • greengecko007

Interesting. Is that at multiple stores where you live, or just one particular store? Either way, this wouldn’t be the first time European retailers went above the MSRP for a product.

        • Ducked

Then your getting ripped, I wouldn’t pay full price for only ONE HD remake. But most of the world is getting it cheaper.

          • Arthur Jarret

Well, I’m not paying it either – I just know this price won’t last – even though it’s the advisory price set by nintendo and the eshop keeps the same price, there is bound to be a surplus and eventual discount – likely after the holiday season.

        • Clel

Anywhere where they deal in euros, stores try to rip you off

          • Arthur Jarret

Even nintendo’s digital store front is ripping me off, dog… no wonder they didn’t put GTA on wii U. That game might give players some ideas on how to handle the current pricing situation.

          • Clel

HOW DARE YOU call me dog?? I am dinosaur!

    • Derk

      Isn’t that some shit?

This should have been a remake in the VC for like $20-25. The only reason the game appealed to anybody for full price was because the Great Game Drought of 2013. Starve your people and then offer them food at 10x the price.

      • Arthur Jarret

Yup, glad to be a multi-system owner playing something else right now! 😉

    • Nintedward

There is actually lots of little small changes that all add up. Also it looks ASTONISHING on Wiiiu in 1080p with the new lighting and textures.

I have the original Limited edition Gamecube version and I still bought this. So far (for me at least) it’s absolutely worth it. One of the best looking games I’ve ever played
Nintendo isn’t forcing you to buy this, infact this is one of the best HD remakes EVER and is amazing for the people who never played WW.

Now in native 1080p with texture, lighting and other imrovements thoughout.
      Looks AMAZING.

Can now acquire the Swift Sail in the Windfall Auction.

Swift Sail doubles sailing speed and forces wind to always be at your back.

Can now take up to 12 Pictographs.

No longer need the Bug from the Forest Haven to finish the Deluxe Pictobox quest. It is upgraded automatically after you do Lenzo’s three picture requirements.

Each photo now gets a rating the moment you take it, as opposed to when you arrive to exchange it.

Pictographs can be submitted multiple times in one visit to be exchanged for figurines.

Can download/submit Pictographs over Miiverse, getting the tough/missable ones MUCH easier. Also, you get to keep your photos if you send them via Tingle Bottle/Miiverse.

Added Hero Mode: Available from the start. Take double damage, no heart drops of any kind. Can only heal via fairies, soup or heart piece pick-ups.

Five Triforce charts have been replaced by the actual pieces.

Tingle is now part of the main quest.

Orca no longer knocks you down if you screw up the sword tutorial once.

Can no longer snipe Molgera’s tongue out of the air using the Hookshot.

Tingle Statues are now found by laying down regular bombs instead of the Tingle Bombs (that no longer exist) at their hidden locations. There is no prompt or hints in game at their location anymore, meaning they likely just wanted you to check the internet!

Can now alter grapple swing direction while swinging.

Can now move in first-person view while aiming the Bow, Hookshot, Grappling Hook and Boomerang.

Addition of gyroscope aiming controls (which can be disabled).

Enemies have less invincibility after being struck.

Getting hit while in your boat doesn’t knock you off of it.

Climbing a block is no longer an alternate command. Think Ocarina of Time where you have to press into a block to get a climb command, except in WWHD it takes longer. :/

      UI & Animations

Pulling items from the sea floor is about 4x faster.

      Grappling cutscene is faster.

      Text speed is much faster.

Wind Waker songs will no longer repeat themselves after being conducted once.

Wind Waker’s beat only starts when you conduct the first note, as opposed to being constant.

Wind direction change option has been moved to the bottom right, as opposed to being a full screen overlay.

Wind Waker has been moved to a permanent position on the Gamepad’s D-Pad; no need to go into the menu to equip at any time.

Grappling and cannon options while sailing are permanently on the D-Pad. No need to equip while sailing.

Cannon firing now has a tracker showing you the trajectory of your bomb and where it will land.

Can now hotswap items on the GamePad without having to go into a menu (You can still pause to swap).

Can alter camera controls to be reversed.

Can remove HUD from the screen entirely save for hearts, magic and quick prompts.

Can review fish advice from the GamePad map without having to re-feed them bait.

      ( List from Nintendoeverything.com )

      • Oskar

You can take selfies with the pictobox

The Map is always visible on the gamepad

    • Magnus Eriksson

Im not sure, but it might be because of greed?

    • Gregg

      Because it’s awesomesauce

  • Aleks

Ok. Gimme HD Metroid Prime in 6 monthes then.

    • Shota

i wish there was a poll on miiverse saying ”Which HD remake you want to see next?” ^_^

      • GuardiansFan

        easy. Super mario bros 3

        • Morphballs

          how bout both!

        • Ducked

But we already have two new super mario bros games

      • derek

HD: Legend of Zelda, Adventure of Link, A Link To the Past, Oracle of Seasons, Oracle of Ages, Four Swords, The Minish Cap, Majora’s Mask, and Ocarina of Time…. all on One disk :D…. but that’ll never happen

      • gtosheex

i would totally vote for Nintenendogs HD – anyone else?

        • Shota

it could work with gamepad. A HD Dog/cat on screen would be awesome !

      • DragonSilths

Enough people yell and scream saying that’s all Nintendo does is remakes. We need MORE NEW games before any more remakes.

        • Andrew Longo

no we don’t all they make now are multiplayer baby games. we couldn’t even get a new mario adventure for the wii u. i would have settled for galaxy 3 but nope, family fun time mario instead

          • DragonSilths

Uhg, Mario. Milked to death. I want new games, unlike people who still want Majora’s Mask 3D and remakes of Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire and Emerald the WORST Pokémon games imo. All I know is I want my new Starfox on Wii U. NO MORE REMAKES.

          • greengecko007

Game Freak can remake Pokemon games because it doesn’t stop them from making putting out new games every year.

          • DragonSilths

They can, but they don’t want to. If they had any interest in remaking R/S/E they would have by now.

          • greengecko007

I think it’s still a very real possibility down the line. Right now I think they are pushing out X and Y and the 6th generation because of the massive amount of criticism the 5th generation games received, which isn’t something they are used to.

There is usually a 3-4 year gap between truly “new” main series Pokemon games, but X and Y are coming out only 2 years after Black and White released.

        • Elem187

Really? Sony and Microsoft have far more HD remakes out there than Ninty… You should do some homework.

          • DragonSilths

I am not talking about Sony and Microsoft. They have nothing to do with this. The point is Nintendo needs to improve its reputation and remakes aren’t the answer. I am a Nintendo fan, I hate Sony, and am not a big fan of Microsoft. But that doesn’t mean I don’t do my “homework” Haters will just be given more fodder to fire at Nintendo with more remakes. It’s just that simple.

Not to mention those same people ignore reality. To them its perfectly fine if Sony and Microsoft do HD remakes but if Nintendo does then its a bad thing apparently.

      • Ducked

        Majoras Mask!

        • Elem187

Never going to happen… To bring any N64 game to HD would be too costly. Every single texture in OOT/MM would need to be re skinned. Every single character model would need an upgrade. The amount of rework needed would be just as costly as a brand new game…. Heck just pushing OOT to the 3ds took considerable more work (and they missed many textures in OOT) than Wind Waker HD. The number of textures in WW is almost non-existant compared to the two n64 titles.

          • Ducked

Duh, so it’ll take time to create. I responding to him saying “i wish there was a poll on miiverse saying ”Which HD remake you want to see next?” ^_^”, not the 6 months post. It’s something everyone wants, like a HD remake of FFVII.

          • greengecko007

If you aren’t going to spend money to greatly improve on the original game, why bother remaking it at all?

        • tomtank91

As much as I would love it, Majora’s Mask will be made for the 3DS just like OoT was.

      • disqus_jnx8BgXLZd

        Monster Hunter 3 D:!!!

I think the Wii U needs more new games rather than HD upgrades (nothing against them, actually love them, but they wont sell consoles I suppose…, unless it was something like Super Mario Sunshine+Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 HD collection)

    • readypembroke

or how about Metroid Prime Trilogy HD with Wii Remote and Nunchuk support and Pro Controller.

      • Shota

i think that won’t be done in six months though.

      • Squid

What about making the Wii games more crisp looking?

      • Ducked

        Why not have gamepad support?

        • readypembroke

          and gamepad!!!

    • companyoflosers

lol you know metroid seems to be the most commonly requested thing. whenever new games or remakes or hd versions are mentioned theres always someone there saying “give me metroid”. honestly an im not trying to impose my view on you, but i never saw the appeal in metroid games. i tried the older side scrolling ones, i played one on gamecube and i have seen people play other m on wii. never really stood out or made me think “hey thats a really cool game”. it just doesnt stand out much to me compared to other games currently out and about to come out. there really isnt much innovation or anything out of the ordinary about metroid. so what do you personally like so much about it? i just want a second opinion from someone who might see something im missing.

      • mike alexander

First of all, irrespective of quality, Other M is considered somewhat like a ‘Metroid Gaiden’ – it takes enough liberties with the formula that it’s not considered fully representative of the series. But there *is* innovation. There is a whole genre – the ‘Metroidvania’ – that takes it’s name mostly from the conventions set in the early Metroid games. The concept of an action game that presents a free-form approach to exploration around a ‘Hub’ world – with incremental power-ups allowing progression beyond the initial area – is something that Metroid pioneered. The ‘Prime’ series set it in a 1st person perspective and – thanks to increasing CPU/GPU power – upped the ante on the rudimentary ‘spooky space’ atmosphere of the originals. They’re not an FPS. They’re almost like a 1st person Space-Age Tomb Raider. People like em because they’re spooky, in Samus they have a cool protagonist, and they distill the essence of the feeling of ‘exploration’ very, very well.

        • companyoflosers

i get that for back then when it was still innovative but im saying as a gamer today, what else exactly does it bring to the table that the other 50 or so other spooky games out now dont aside from nostalgia? if your playing a metroid game just because its metroid, i dont see that as a viable reason for anyone who didnt grow up with it to get into it unless something changes to make it more relevant. if i were in nintendo’s shoes, id be reluctant to make another metroid unless i had some pretty concrete changes and additional innovation to make. the type of gameplay ive seen seems difficult to improve upon, true, but its not exactly anything new that i cant get anywhere else these days. again, not disrespecting you or the game.

          • david jarman

Maybe it’s because people like the story and the series. I can’t think of a single game that’s coming out now that is truly innovating. Then again whats wrong with just being fun.

          • mike alexander

No offence taken. I don’t know dude. I suppose this is thing a lot of people would say about the big N – that they are backed into a corner with few options but to milk old franchises with only incremental new additions or changes. Having said that the initial move to 1st person in ‘Prime’ was controversial at the time and an innovation in and of itself.

    • Metroid Prime Trilogy HD pls and I’ll be sold on WiiU 🙂

    • Ony

I’m surprised the top comment is on Metroid.

YEAH. Metroid prime trilogy HD would be se awesome <3
( But I would rather had a new Metroid by Retro than them making the remake :/ )

  • NkoSekirei

wind waker is awsome and especially sending messages with bottles

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Yeah. Phones must be expensive in Hyrule.

      • Shota

ofcourse it is, Hyrule Galaxy S is more than 150k rupees XD

  • The Clockwork Being

Wow really. Well it seemed like at least 1 year seeing how it turned out. What I really want to know is the size of the team that worked on it. Hopefully it wasn’t too much to intervene with the Wii U Zelda game.

Edit: Instead of this game they should have Majora’s Mask HD. Mostly because it’s my favorite Zelda game.

    • greengecko007

Or, and I’m just tossing ideas around, they could remake a Zelda title that HASN’T aged well. The original Zelda and Zelda II could be remade with a massive graphical update and given more of an engaging story that fits with Hyrule Historia. They would already have the dungeon and overworld designs mapped out for them. I’d like to see a remake that goes beyond “we added more clouds and miiverse”.

      • Nintenjoe82

They should remake the first 3 as a trilogy in the same graphics engine as the tech demo.

        • greengecko007

By first three, do you mean the original Zelda, Zelda II and A Link to the Past? I would be all over a Zelda and Zelda II remake collection, but I don’t feel like A Link to the Past needs to be remade again, (it already has) and it’s not chronologically next to Zelda and Zelda II.

          • Nintenjoe82

First of all, when was Link to the Past remade? It was released on SNES and GBA and Wii VC. I don’t remember there being a remake.

Secondly, I don’t mean a remake of the same game with HD sprites. I mean they should take the map, dungeons and items of the first 3 games and try to implement them into a fully 3D game.

          • greengecko007

The SNES and GBA releases are not the same version. The GBA version is a remake of the SNES version that includes an extra dungeon and The Four Swords.

I got what you meant. I’d love to see Zelda and Zelda II remade. Neither of them have stood the test of time very well.

    • Ducked

What I don’t get is if it only took 6 months to make, why couldn’t they started progress before the Wii U released and had it out in March, April, or May.

And I’m totally with you on Majoras Mask!

  • LopsidedPasta

My thoughts on the new(ish) Zelda game? I think it’s amazing. Just got the Limited Edition version yesterday. SO ADDICTIVE. It took one of my favorite childhood games and super-sized it.

  • Smartass2

Best Zelda game ever. Now how about Mario 64HD.

    • Yousif Alromaithi

A sequel would be better called Universe.

      • Smartass2

I think we’re getting that with 3D World. Looks like 64 but with a NSMBU over world. Can’t wait for that one, but considering it took six months for Wind Waker, Mario 64HD shouldn’t take too long.

        • Yousif Alromaithi

I am not talking about HD I am talking about a sequel. Anyways I am getting 3D world looks awesome but imagine a sixty four sequel. That would be awesome.

  • Shota

six months? why not another gamecube game in hd? mario sunshine perhaps?

    • Nintedward

Replace Mario sunshine with F-zero GX with added online 😉

      • Shota

        you sir, deserve a medal.

      • The Clockwork Being

Miyamoto: We don’t know what to do with F-Zero.

Add Online, Add more tracks, more characters, HD version of GX, make more modes, add multiple story modes and voila. You got yourselves a new F-Zero game.

        • Smartass2

You should send them that message. I would buy it. F-Zero in HD would be awesome.

        • mralloverit

Throw in a track editor as well as a community to share user-generated content, and I’m sold.

      • MetroidZero

F-Zero GX…the hardest game I’ve ever played, hands down. Unlocked the AX Cup and all AX characters, but that came with a TON of resets, rage-quits, and too many 2nd place finishes.

    • Yousif Alromaithi

Mario sunshine would be cool. But i really want a sequel to Mario 64 called Mario Universe. That would be epic better than galaxy for sure.

      • Shota

exploring mushroom kingdom in a full 3d world is a must. then outside the mushroom kingdom there are more worlds. Sarasaland maybe?

        • Yousif Alromaithi

What a game when you explore the castle a map of ten times larger than Sunshine world map . The Wii U can do it because it has the technology. I mean this would be the best game on Wii U but only I can dream let us hope if Nintendo can do it Nintendo revisited ocarina of time style on Wii they can revisit 64 sequel on Wii U.

        • Leo

Open world Mushroom Kingdom would de amazing!

    • Derk

It actually takes less than 6 months. You have to factor in that the Nintendo developers were having trouble with the HD conversion. Newer games with less bugs would probably take a lot less time as well.

    • Ducked

I like the way you think!

      • Shota

        thanks pal! :3

  • readypembroke

As my first Zelda game, Wind Waker HD never makes me bored. Played it nearly 4 hours so far and never got bored. Also I rented Twilight Princess and it makes me bored once in awhile but fun. Would totally preorder a Zelda if it used the Wind Waker art style.

    • Smartass2

Yeah. You can spend hours just sailing around.

  • mralloverit

Sitting comfortably next to my Skyward Sword Wiimote. Still sealed, as I’m playing the digital version. Plan on keeping them sealed. These will be $$$ in the future, should the day come when I decide to sell them. Ebay auctions are pretty crazy right now. Imagine how they’ll be in a few years as these get harder to find.

    • wiiudaily

    • felony211662

That’s what I wanted to do but I just don’t have another 60 bucks to get the digital

      • mralloverit

It was a slight strain on my wallet cause it was a bit slow at work around the time I pre-ordered. Had to wait until near the end of the month to buy the digital version. It worked out well in the end, though. Now, as we pick back up, we close in on the holiday season which means gifts to buy for the family and no more pre-orders for now.

    • Merrfn

I am tempted to buy them off you but I know it will be an overpriced bundle 😛

    • Sander van der Ham

Thanks for the ebay info. My local store is still carrying a bunch of those limited editions… Should buy a few and sell a few now and a few later. I smell profits. 😀

      • mralloverit

I’ve looked at some of the ones that actually sold. Thus far, only 4 have gone above the $200 mark. One of those had to include the Skyward Sword bundle in order to do so. I would say if you do buy them, sit on them for a while. The longer you wait, the harder they are to find and the more you can potentially command for them. There’s no guarantee that you’ll get a lot for every single one, so don’t set your expectations too high. Just as well, If you happen to find any of the collectors edition hardcover guides, snap those up as well. They don’t stay in print for long. From what I’ve seen from SS bundles on Ebay, having that particular guide will drive the price up further. Even if it’s not sealed.
I prefer it that way, cause IF someday down the road I do decide to let go of these, they’ll be sold as a set.

        Edit: http://www.ebay.com/sch/Video-Games-/139973/i.html?_sop=3&LH_Complete=1&_nkw=wind+waker+hd+limited+edition

These are the completed listings up to this point. This will give you an idea as to what you might make if it was listed now and actually sold. This is provided that the potential buyers see it as reasonable. It varies from person to person.

  • bieke98 .

The game hasn’t got any anti-aliasing, it looks a bit ugly through the aliasing.

    • Nintedward

No it doesn’t…. it’s native 1080p and the jaggies are few and far between unless you are sat like 1 metre away from a 50” screen searching for jaggies.

  • Sdudyoy

What Nintendo game would you want remade? me personally I would want Majora’s mask HD/3D.

    • bakedapplepie

Agreed, and while there at it OoT in HD would be great.

      • Jon

Me, NONE, I want NEW Zelda games. One remake per system is enough. they don’t need to waste resources on remakes.

    • Clel

      I don’t want remakes, I want Star Fox 128

      • Sdudyoy

While It’s more of an if you could chose one question, but yeah I want a good Starfox game also.

  • enigmaxtreme

This wasn’t a port, it was a remake

    • CyanideInsanity

Unless someone has stated they completely redid the engine, its an enhanced port. The only things that are immediately noticeable are the resolution, lighting, and the music(not sure about all audio). I don’t have it so I can’t check if the textures were updated. The characters still use the same models from the original.

      • enigmaxtreme

A port is when they take the code as is and just do a few little tweaks to it, like the Virtual Console and Gamecube releases of OOT, THOSE are ports, WW on Cube wasn’t even in Widescreen, they rebuilt this from the ground up

        • CyanideInsanity

You don’t necessarily need to do a lot for widescreen support. People have been able to successfully enable widescreen on older PC games by editing a few hex values.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            True story.

      • Fuzunga

Then do you call Halo Anniversary a port? I call it a remake, as I call this a remake.

        • CyanideInsanity

That was in reference to WWHD not having completely new assets. To me WWHD is only part of a remake, making it an enhanced port. The music and lighting are the only things I see as being remade.

  • GuardiansFan

would love to see a super mario bros 3 HD remake…or even the original

  • Dell Goodman

Sadly, I’ve not had time to play my copy of Legend of Zelda Wind Waker HD =[ It’s still wrapped up. Only had time to put the kick ass collectors model on the shelf. Will try get to it tomorrow/Monday.

  • KoopaShell

They should make an HD port of Super Mario Sunshine. Imagine Noki Bay in 1080p.

    • MetroidZero

      OH MAAAAN!

    • The True Gamer

I’d buy a Wii u for that game alone. I’d just stare at it for hours, and then start playing it

  • Gregg

Keep in mind the resources Nintendo has. 6 Months under their roof is worth years under a smaller developer/company

  • Rinslowe

I could get interested in a HD Rogue Squadron 2 in 6 months! 😉
    And Eternal Darkness
    And Banjo Kazooie
    Perfect Dark
And Xenoblade Chronicles to run through again before X…

    • Leo

They could remake everything from N64 up to Gamecube and this console would be the best system ever along with the proper upcoming new games lol

      • Rinslowe

Yeah, even if they implemented like a Wii U dolphin emulator for Wii games and just picked which titles to fully remaster, I would be forever in awe…

    • Pikachief

I still think they should hire a developer or two to make an HD Virtual Console. Give me some Handdrawn sprites for Zelda, Super Metroid, Super Mario World, updated 3D models of Donkey Kong Country, etc. etc. And maybe some slight improvements or even great improvements to games like Golden Eye, Turok 2, Paper Mario, and other N64 games. N64 games with added online for the already existing multiplayer modes in games.

They could price it at double the price and I know they’d sell like crazy.

      • Rinslowe

Exactly, not to put focus on the debacle (sorry if you were a fan) of the 007 remake but playing a stock standard Golden eye at 1080p resolution and 60fps with online mutliplayer would be retro heaven man!!!

  • CesarG

Wind Waker HD is very nice

  • Elitepwnsface

It is just like the old school. Such a good pick up.

  • fireheartis1

Unfortunately I haven’t got my pre-order in yet since it’s being sent to my house. I wont receive it until Wednesday which really sucks, but man as soon as I get it I’ll be putting it in my Wii U and playing for hours.

  • MetroidZero

Imagining Hyrule Field in OoT in HD:

  • fireheartis1

This is completely off topic, but have any of you seen BLACKBOND’s YouTube video on Wind Waker yet? Man I swear that guy is the biggest troll I’ve ever seen. Tells Nintendo fans that they are fake fans because they bought the HD version, and then has the audacity to call himself a true Nintendo fan just because he still owns the GameCube version of Wind Waker. That dude needs to be put in his place for sure.

  • Simon Stevens

I wish I could go back 11 years and erase my memory of wind waker so I could experience it for the first time again in HD, it really does look that gorgeous.

  • Louis Aragón

not total success , they could improve some animations.. for expample when medli is playing the earth god lyric and laruto appears, link is playing the wind waker and the animation is about 2 or 3 seconds, then link stop and repeat that part.. sorry for the bad english. i mean the flow between that loop.

  • linxz

hence why it is TOO EXPENSIVE at 45 pounds. Nintendo is kidding itself if it thinks that these types of greedy actions will take it out of the slumber

    • Marcus Navarro

“Nintendo is kidding itself if it thinks that these types of greedy actions will take it out of the slumber.” *see EA for details*

    • The True Gamer

Halo CE anniversary was about $39. It did have online multiplayer, but it looked a lot worse than what I’ve seen of wind waker HD. I’m assuming that’s just the norm for first party remakes from Nintendo and microsoft

      • Pikachief

Well that online multiplayer wasn’t its own online multiplayer. It was basically just a stand-alone classic map pack for Halo Reach, since it used Halo Reach’s multiplayer except you could only play those few maps.

        • The True Gamer

Yeah, I kinda wish it had a stand alone multiplayer, even if it only had 6 maps. Just would seem more like a new game

    • ScrewAttack

Ever considered that it’s the stores marking the price up from RRP because it’s a Zelda title? Nintendo has no control over what stores mark their games at. Nintendo’s RRP is probably £35.

  • Jared Garcia

Given that there was more work than just textures, it’s worth the money to me. Now if others felt ripped off, then they bought it for the wrong reasons.

  • nin-10-doughfan

    i love it!

  • nin-10-doughfan

nintendo, can you make skyward sword on HD too!

  • Daniel Gonzalez

Yeah, I think that was kinda obvious. All they really did was add some better shading, lighting, audio and enhanced it for HD. It’s still good work nonetheless. I think the price should’ve been $40.

    • Rinslowe

Actually I kinda agree with the price thing…
It’s more than just a face lift though but still, would’ve been priced more accurately at about that.

  • sd

So does this mean they can do hd ports faster now. Because maybe they could do Eternal darkness, f zero and starfox adventures. Could they HD these 3 in just 12 months? They could also package F zero and starfox together for the normal price of 1 game. Just a suggestion and a great way to easily add great value games to their console.

Wind Waker is a great game and I am having great fun playing it on the Wii U, even if it was full price in Australia and even if Nintendo removed the exclusive ganondorf figure option.

  • Fuzunga

I had this game when I was a kid, but I didn’t play it much. I got to Dragon Roost and stopped. I guess I didn’t have the patience or the skill back then.

However, I can definitely see why many consider this the best of the series. The only thing I would have added is the ability to write on the map so I could remember where all those damn deku seeds are planted!

    • Joey

yeah i would agree with that it would be useful but on the other hand i printed out the list from an online guide to help me where to find it heh, i accidentally quit the game without saving it lol, had to do it again.

  • Justagamer

    The game is awesome…Enough said!

  • Jonatan

    Twilight Princesa now

  • Ryan House

I actually went back and am playing the Original Wind Waker. I can buy the HD upgrade later. My fear is that if people don’t buy third party software. Those Third Parties will Drop their support for Wii U

    • MujuraNoKamen

Exactly, I have bought WWHD but I’m making a concerted effort to support 3rd parties on Wii U by buying their games ASAP and Nintendo’s later on. So far I’ve got Black Ops 2, ZombiU, LCU, MH3U, and Splinter Cell.
It’s good to see so many people supporting Rayman on Wii U but I think we have to show our support to mature games too (like Watch Dogs, AC, Deus Ex and Bayonetta) as any console needs variety and Wii U needs to cater to demographics outside the family & Nintendo enthusiast groups.

  • Ryan House

Nintendo has already said that they’ve converted skyward sword and Twilight Princess to HD. The Point of Bring these three zelda’s to HD was practice for the Original Wii U Zelda. Plus Gamecube wasn’t as popular of a console. Hopefully Wii U will outsell gamecube and loads of people who didn’t own a gamecube will enjoy playing the wind waker for the first time

    • Austin Burn

they didn’t say they did… they said they can, and might

      • Pikachief

They said that they created small portions of all 3 games to see what they’d look like in 3D and decided to go with Wind Waker.

  • Ryebread

i would love to see Majora’s mask if not in HD at least on virtual console because i never finished the game because of the weird save system and my nintendo 64 keeps freezing while i play it 😛

  • Deezy

I really don’t think it would matter to people how long it took for a game to be re-created. As long as the game function well, perfectly calibrated with the controller and have new content in it that no one seen in the old version, then everything else should be kinda pointless.

  • WarioForever

I don’t want any HD remake anymore. I want them to focus more on NEW games.

    • The True Gamer

What about pokemon HD remakes on Wii u?

  • Andrew Longo

Viewtiful Joe HD pls. Take all my money I don’t care just make it happen.

  • Adrian

I’m playing Skyward sword right now, and so far it is amazing. I’ll consider getting this game…at some point.

  • SuperScope85

Got my copy yesterday and what a great game it is, i hope it sells well.

  • The True Gamer

Pokemon X and Y HD. Hey, they did it with ac liberation and god of war handheld games, why not pokemon?

  • Guest

    Monster Hunter 3…. D:!!

  • MYCO

  • wimpykid456

    Donkey Kong 64 HD. Please.

  • Linskarmo

I think the game is fantastic, but during hectic parts the game can slow down a whole lot. That’s the only problem I’ve found with it. Although I do think it would be nice to slowly reveal island details instead of having them pop up. These complaints are relatively small since the game is so good.

  • Took only 6 months? That’s really short especially when looking how it ended up. Just had a chance to play windwaker HD at my brothers place who bought a WiiU Windwaker bundle yesterday, and it looks incredible, I enjoyed the game the 20 minutes I played. Looks incredibly good thumbs up for such an incredible looking HD remake, if only other devs took the same aproach then every HD remake would be worth it.

  • MujuraNoKamen

Hang on, if it took 6 months and was announced in January then how come it didn’t come out in July?

I guess the reveal was just beta screenshots from when they experimented with different art styles and development didn’t get underwat for a few months.
Anyway if they can do this in 6 months then I hope we can get some other great remakes soon. Please no more Zelda ones until at least Zelda U comes out we’ve had enough.
I hope they remake the early Pokemon games on Wii U.
If they remade Metroid Prime Trilogy for Wii U using the engine for X then OMG, I’d get it day 1. If this happens I hope they improve the controls (aiming on GC was a bit shit), keep the Wii Mote option, use gamepad features, and add new mini-games and mini-campaigns as sadly a new full Metroid game is likely some time away. Maybe a multiplayer mode too.

  • Aleksandar Antonijevic

So 2 games each year… lel

  • david jarman

    Dear, Nintendo.

Thank you for doing an amazing job.
I will gladly pay your employees.
Please continue with this kind of good work.
Please bring us the franchises we miss and the new ips we will love.

  • Adam Cousins

If i hit a few monsters at once i get some lag in the game which is a shame 🙁

  • wober2

While i am glad they did this, I think this shows nintendo scrambling to release something quickly. Windwaker HD is awesome and I cannot wait for mario 3d world, but I cannot help but think 2014 is going to be the year that we see the WiiU’s potential.

  • Jared Garcia

Remember that Rogue Squadron 2 was done I about 8 months for the Gamecube launch and it was from scratch using newly developed Dolby Pro Logic II. That was a big graphics leap from the N64 so it’s about right for an HD re-release.

    • oontz

Dolby Pro Logic II, has nothing to do with game visuals.

      • Jared Garcia

True, but graphics aren’t the only thing upgraded in each console generations life. Sound also plays a key part as for the most part. The quality has gone up from simple sounds resembling music and sound FX to real instrument based music and real grunts and guns. From mono to stereo, to surround sound. Before the development of Rogue Squadron 2, the format didn’t exist and wouldn’t exist. Factor 5 worked on a stereo based 5 channel surround sound program and wanted it standardized so they went to Dolby and presented it so it could universally used for games that wanted to achieve surround, but couldn’t because of the lack of Dolby Digital.
Sound engineering has always been a side step compared to graphics, but it mustn’t be overlooked. What you hear is just as important as what you see.

        • oontz

I agree, just the way you worded your statement…

” it was from scratch using newly developed Dolby Pro Logic II. That was a big graphics leap from the N64″

          • Jared Garcia

reading it again, it didn’t make sense to me either. I suppose I was thinking about visuals and sound and it got mixed in together.

  • Tylos

When I first heard about the wind waker HD remake I thought it would have been interesting to see a sort of Wind Waker HD collection: including Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit tracks, it would have taken longer sure but all we needed was technically there: the two screens… And it’s not like making a gamer from a portable to a console is anything new, I mean square enix did it with chain of memories a GBA game then into a PS2 game. They could have made the game a bit more like WW with occasional touchscreen use with items like the boomerang and puzzles that needed it originally, kept the gameplay exactly the same but in HD with HD cutscenes or even redone the games completely. It was a far fetched dream but anyways I’m still happy with what I got.

  • Merrfn

I am hoping to buy Wind Waker HD today… the past two days have been so frustrating.

  • Ryan House

Since I have the Wii with Gamecube Ports I am playing the Original on Wii. I really didn’t have any complaints about wind waker once I played it. when I first saw this game after seeing the mature fight between link and ganondorf I was upset. But then we got Twilight Princess so we got our mature zelda fix

  • Ryan House

I am wondering why we haven’t got our hands on Dragon Quest X the MMORPG

  • Jeovany

that explains why it was such a bare boned port

  • leo
  • devmiles

from what i think, also this hd remake was postponed since there were reports earlier that this would come. anyway, the game is good but pretty expensive for a hd port and some new content. i would surely like to see all zelda’s in a remake and it would be a very missed chance for nintendo if they wouldn’t but again if they still need to start now it will take ages. the main issue with the wii-u remains the poor output of software and mario 3d worlds is not gonna change this at all. it will probably be a nice game but too much of the same for the 3ds owners that played 3d land. i’m also trying to say nintendo needs to try to put out the real magic, something that will blow us away like starfox on the snes did, mario 64 or galaxy did, metroid prime..man those were games that took our breath away. this zelda game is awesome but already took my breath away 10 years ago, i’m enjoying it again but my question remains, will we ever get that authentic kind of magic in the nowadays era. i do blame nintendo for being too much focussed on little children so pokemon goes for metroid or starfox

  • Jeffery02

6 months? Oh is that all? Entire GAMES used to be made in that time. Nintendo isn’t known to half-ass their games though, so I guess 6 months can be surprisingly short for them.

    • Pikachief

True. All of Majora’s Mask was made in under a year. Sure, it borrowed stuff from Ocarina of Time and only had 4 dungeons but it was still a very impressive feat!

  • Seth S. Scott

  • Is_Mort

ok, so this means that Nintendo didn’t have have any quality games for the first 9 months of the system life simply because they were lazy and didn’t care about us.

  • ejownz6

$50 for an easy port. Nintendo loves to milk its fan base.

  • Green

This game was a master piece without HD, and now with the new lighting and the 1080p resolution it’s even better :P.
