Apr 7th, 2013

It’s been a while since Iwata officially addressed the upcoming games Nintendo has been working on. The last Nintendo Direct concerning the Wii U took place in January, where Iwata confirmed that a new Legend of Zelda, Smash Bros., Mario Kart, and several other titles were in development. Of course none of these projects have official names as of yet, leading to rampant speculation, but that hasn’t stopped Walmart from getting up pre-order pages for many of the titles. These titles include:

Of course the last title in the list is Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut, a title recently confirmed by Square Enix to be headed to Wii U on May 7th. While the pages themselves don’t give any hints as to what the games could be called, it’s a reminder that we have a line up of great titles headed our way for Wii U owners. If you’re interested in speculating about the upcoming games, you can always head over to our forums, or tell us which games you’re most excited about below.

And don’t be fooled by the “Zelda 2” name: this is a different title than Wind Waker HD and you’ll note shows a separate pre-order page for these two games. While the new Zelda game may not have an official name, you can certainly help brainstorm by checking out our latest giveaway.

Zelda 2 ‘RPG’ WiiU? Is the next Legend of Zelda gonna be an RPG instead of an Action-Adventure type game?

Regardless, I’m excited about the Mario 3D Platformer!

    • Cerus98

It’s still a role playing game. They’re using it in its generic definition since you’re playing the role of a fictional character. Every action adventure game is really an RPG as well.

    • Alienfish

I’m just wondering why they’re calling it Zelda ‘2’. This would be Zelda 8 if you’re only going by console releases. Did they really only start paying attention at Skyward Sword? My greatest hope for this strange title is that it is a Zelda game based around the overall mechanics of the original Zelda 2, or even a total remake and overhaul of it.

      • Adam Porter

huh?? no one liked zelda2 it almost killed the whole franchise

        • Levi Johansen

No it didn’t, most people liked it!

Today is is regarded as the weakest by most people, but few regard it as bad and most people who talk about it haven’t even played it!

When it was new there was no chance of that game ruining the franchise as they started working on the next one almost immediately!

The game has only in recent years been called a bad game because of kids going back to play retro games find their asses on a plate, “handed to them”.

Zelda II is actually one of my favourite games of all time!

          • Death47

            Same XD

          • adslife80

I must disagree. I LOVE zelda games but zelda 2 was plain wrong and not up to the high standard of the rest of the series. Yes I have played it and in fact played/owned all the main zelda games.

          • Levi Johansen

I will agree that it seems to have a lower standard than the rest.

But I love the RPG-elements of it and I think Skyward Sword is very inspired by Zelda 2:

            – Upgrading your sword
            – Killing enemies gives you “points” (or “treasure”) to upgrade gear

I hope the next one has many towns like Zelda 2 and even more upgrading than Skyward Sword, and more sidequests than Majoras Mask.

There is a reason for loving and hating every Zelda game, but I love them all.

          • AJ Chioino

youve reminded me of the rpg aspect of SS. i thought it was an amazing concept. now i want to play it again. never finished it unfortunately life got too busy at the time. also the wii u came out so i was busy with nsmbu and zombiu. still havent completed zombiu. damn ive been slacking.

          • Levi Johansen

I also quit playing SS – but later finished it and I’m now playing through it for the second time on Hero Mode.

            It’s such a great game! 😀

        • Alienfish

Can’t take the heat? That game is easily the hardest Zelda game. You’d have to be insane to approach it without an FAQ. I can still say I beat the final boss on the first try without reading any tips on how to do so. Btw my playthrough was on the 3DS ambassador game and I felt the circle pad made the attacks easier to perform.

  • Zelda RPG could work. They kinda went that route with the item upgrading system they had in skyward sword. I could dig it.

    • sithWiiU

Please, Zelda is far from being a RPG. It’s a static adventure game. Static cause the lead dude just stares & smiles like a mute, & everyone speaks gibberish, & the characters have not changed since the 80s. YAWN!

      • Levi Johansen

You have clearly not played any Zelda games, especially not from the 80’s since you say the character have not changed since then.

I agree that Zelda is far from being a RPG. It is a “role-playing” game, but so is Mario and Angry Birds – you play as fictional characters in every game, so they are all “role-playing” games.

I do however love the RPG-elements used in Skyward Sword like upgrading weapons, items and potions. I hope the next game has a lot more of that, but Zelda will never fully be a RPG and I don’t want it to.

        • sithWiiU

Ive played Wind Waker, A Link to the Past (GBA), Twilight Princess, and Phantom Hourglass.

          • Levi Johansen

Well, if you liked any of those then you should check out Ocarina of Time and Skyward Sword.

Majoras Mask and Wind Waker probably have the best characters though, so if the lack of developed characters bother you then check out Majoras Mask it’s a lot of fun.

        • AJ Chioino

damn, i guess the adventure of Link doesnt count as an rpg then. cough*

          • Levi Johansen

The Adventure of Link isn’t anymore of a RPG than Skyward Sword.

Having experience-points doesn’t make it a RPG. You gain points from killing enemies and then you upgrade stuff – in Skyward Sword you gain “treasure” to upgrade stuff.

I’d say Skyward Sword is more of a RPG than Zelda II, since there are more things to upgrade, sword, items and potions. Besides you need more than just points to upgrade, you need a certain number of different treasures and bugs.

Zelda II does have an overworld where you can run into enemies and fight them. This is like a classic RPG, but the combat-system is quite different. It’s real time, instead of turn-based, and you are free to move/leave as you please.

Many RPG’s have this aswell, but that kind of combat-system is not considered an RPG element and you will find the same combat system in most platforming games, both 2D and 3D.

Zelda games are action/adventure/exploration games with RPG elements, all of them.

      • beerkin

Pathetic. So pathetic. You don’t have any friends do,you? Everybody feel sad for the lonely troll with nothing better to do than get hated on by everyone here.

        • sithWiiU

U mad bro? Truth hurts don’t it?

      • Jon

I am pretty sure that is just Walmart being stupid, Zelda does have some RPG elements such as upgrades and such but that is as far as it will probably go

  • Mason742

I thought this was Nintendo’s strategy from the beginning. First to get the concept of the system out, hash out bugs, release killer games/apps at the same time that the other two competitors launch their systems and then after that increase the advertisements for the system by 10 fold.

    • The Clockwork Being

      It is

    • Nonayo Business

All while PS4 and NextBox have a shortage of new games!

      • Adam Baker

        And a shortage of hardware.

  • Laud

    $99 to preorder a $60 game?

No thanks wal-mart, I’ll just wait until Nintendo announces some kind of limited edition.

Can’t wait for that SMT x FE reveal though. :3!!!

    • Andrew Comer

That’s how all the games were before the Wii U launched. They will put it to $60 as soon as it is officially announced.

    • HardToTheCore93

It’s a placeholder. When the games get an official title and release date, the games will be $60.

    • Ducked

      I know, seriously.

    • Big fan of shin megami tensei games, but never played fire emblem. I just hope its as good as im wishing it to be.

  • Sdudyoy

  • The Clockwork Being

Wait for it. Trolls are going to come and comment that these titles are useless But who are they trying to trick.

  • The Clockwork Being

LOL this is good I have already go this planned out. Ill be owning 10 Wii U games at the end of summer+a 3DS and 10 3DS games and then ill be saving my money for these games. ill be buying each one as soon as it comes out. Even better ill be getting the good games on the Virtual Console. All this if I get a job in summer. Hope I do get one one. When ill be done getting the things for my Wii U ill wait till december for the PS4. After that ill be set on Nintendo and PS4 for the rest of the 4 years to come.

    • Mark Thom

      THAT SOUND GOOD!!!!!!!!!

      • The Clockwork Being

ikr ive been planning this since I decided to get a job. My calculations know no flaws and i am positive of what im saying!!

    • LopsidedPasta

Is one of the Wii U games Sniper Elite V2? It should be. Also get Lego City. That game is bigger than my *insert PG-13 joke here*

      • The Clockwork Being

I am definitely getting Lego City, WOnderful 101 is a must, Pikmin 3, Bayonnetta 2 and much more. And ofcourse Sniper Elite V2

      • Adam Fox

Sniper Elite V2 is fantastic, while I only have the Xbox360 version, I am sure it is just as good if not better on Wii U

    • Don’t plan on buying them anytime soon. If they do not even have a name, they are no where near finished. You need at least a name, screen shot and box art before a release.

      • Levi Johansen

these games have names, screen shots and box art!

Nintendo just haven’t given this to Walmart, and why would they, it would ruing the suspence of E3

        • Adam Porter

wishful thinking, why would nintendo release wind waker HD in autumn if a new zelda was close to release. i’d say we should get mario kart and hopefully pikmin3 before the end of the year.

          • Levi Johansen

“Preorder this item and it will ship on 12/31-2013″…

This cannot be the new Zelda game, can it? will they release both WW HD and the new one in 2013? Unlikely!

The Zelda 2 title must be WW HD, and the article must be mistaken for saying it isn’t.

          • SilverDrake20

I have to agree, Nintendo likes to spread out their first party titles so I doubt they would bring out two Zelda games during the Holidays. E3 is going to be pretty amazing this year 🙂

          • NkoSekirei

new hd zelda wont be out till next year or 2015 cause wat i heard it suppose to be a huge game

          • Nookling

You must be new to online retailers or something… That is just a place holder. There were pre-orders up for Animal Crossing New Leaf in 2011 for December.

          • Levi Johansen

            Oh… really?

I never preorder anything, especially online. I always buy my games at actual mall-retailers like GAME.

Then Zelda 2 really is the Zelda U we are waiting for which probably comes in 2014. The title suggests that this is a Skyward Sword sequel I think…

          • Nookling

I guess it could be a Skyword Sword sequal but this doesn’t really prove much for that. These pre-orders don’t do much in my mind besides remind me they are coming. These are all games that are 100% going to be released and they just wanted to put up pre-orders as soon as possible. -in my mind-

    • Vinicius

      You’re rich

      • The Clockwork Being

No not at all its just that getting a job early in the summer can really help out on video games. Plus ill be working all summer long. If you plan things out perfectly you can actually get what ill be planning on getting easily

      • Guest

HOLY CRAP! SOMEONE ACTUALLY USED THE CORRECT “YOUR”. That doesn’t happen often.

    • Only a few are true gamers

Im not yet which one to get ps4 or xbox720 but 500 or 600 is alot to pay

      • sdmac200600

PS4. You won’t have to pay to play online and you won’t have to have constant internet connection to even the play the console itself.

      • The Clockwork Being

True gamer, the best thing about this gaming year is the fact that the consoles are going to be out holiday 2013 plus they will be shown at E3 so you got all the time to think.

Edit: Dont forget that PS has more exclusives than Xbox so yeah

      • NkoSekirei

wat i heard that 720 requires constant internet to play games which it sucks and their more focus on kinect.

      • Adam Fox

Best to wait until they announce the next Xbox, they still have that rumor of the next Xbox requiring a “constant on” internet connection…..we don’t know for sure yet….just like we thought the PS4 was not gonna play used games, they cleared that up at the announcement….let’s also hope Microsoft is actually smart enough to have the Xbox at the show unlike Sony…..but, if I had to take my pick now, I’d go with the new Xbox system……sure, the Xbox360 had the RRoD issue and i went thru a few consoles myself, but i always went back to Xbox360…..PlayStation3 just had to have nothing but sequels to PS2 games and a bunch of “HD remakes”….Uncharted is a “PS3 Exclusive” but i didn’t like it….so there is really nothing on PS3 that screams “BUY A PS3!”….(at least IMO)

        • Only a few are true gamers

Well i’ll wait than atleast i have wii u to fall back on even if the games are short right now

          • The Clockwork Being

Well im sure hyou know like most of us that E3 will reveal games and alot of exclusives for Nintendo will be there for the holidays. Plus 3rd party games will most likely come out on the holidays too.

    • midnightsun321

Four years? I say seven! Heck, that’s how long the PS3 lasted.

      • The Clockwork Being

        You’re right 7 and more!!

  • Mark Thom

  • Alex

What the heck a Zelda game that cost $100 and we don’t know nothing about this game, is Walmart crazy.

    • SilverDrake20

Placeholder bro…besides it could also be a “limited/collector’s” edition but most likely it is just a placeholder price.

  • marth175

Guys the game won’t cost $100, its just an exaggerated price to cover any official pricing. They will adjust it then, amazon does this all the time. In the business industry its better to estimate a price higher than its official price rather than a lower price, otherwise they could be sued.

    • Major Marvelous

Actually, they wouldn’t be sued, they would just be forced to sell it at the lower price they offered

  • Dominicruz

after E3we are going to have a big list of new games I just hope for a big update for the system and add nintendo achievements and more apps

    • I really want stamps to become universal 🙁

  • Dennis Fisher Jr

    • gabriel sanchez

      I mean 99.96 lol

      • brian murphy

no announced price they dont want you to buy it yet

      • AJ Chioino

        we forgive you. 😛

  • lol unnamed zelda wii u game Q4 2013? what are they smoking? windwaker HD is Q4. New zelda title has no release date yet. Q4 2014 at the earliest. My guess is late 2015

    • DragonSilths

Nah Zelda HD will be 2014.

  • brian murphy

nintendo probally told walmart that they had games comming out cause walmart sales alot of there products and the wii u isnt selling but i bet all these games listed for the end of the year dont happen till spring to summer of 2014 but im sure there will be a few at the end of the year the new zelda and new mario wont happen but mario kart and smash brothers is a posibility think nintendo is doing damage control protecting there product with walmart to hold shelf space

    • SilverDrake20

I highly doubt we will see Super Smash Bros. by the end of this year. They said it would take several years and that was 2011 (?) if I’m not mistaken. I can see it coming out next year though. Mario Kart is certainly a possibility though.

  • heavenshitman1

Come PS4/720 launch (which will probably be much longer in here in Australia), WiiU will be far cheaper, have its launch matters smoothed out and a far greater library of high profile games.
It’s also funny, everyone goes on about how the WiiU just doesn’t have a big enough install base to justify the games being ported. PS4/720 will have almot 0 units where WiiU will have at least 3 million. Likely more like 5 million.

  • Jimmy D. Fugate

So many games, so little cash!

    • Nonayo Business

So many games so little time

    • get it!!

  • Ducked

Why do they always have to list the game at $99 for Wii U games when we all know there gonna be $59?

  • Alienfish

Oh, what?! They don’t even have pre-orders available for Nintendo’s next console after WiiU. I’m totally disappointed.

  • Superstick98

Reggie Fils Ame for the next SSB.

    • Jimmy D. Fugate

I’d love to see Reggie in Smash Bros. His body would totally be ready!

  • Yong Woo Kim

  • SilverDrake20

Unlike most of the news saying Wii U is in trouble I’m really excited to get one when some of these games come out (namely Super Smash Bros.)

  • Scott

Meanwhile, Walmart fails to realise that Zelda 2 came out 25 years ago…

  • CuriousManiac

I’m Basically going to buy 5 of those games. I think Dues ex is looking pretty good too.

Of course Ill probably be getting it from EB games down here in Auz, I’m trying to get to level 3 of their promotional discounts.

I shouldn’t worry though chances are since where on the bottom of the world we’ll be getting these games last.

We don’t have Walmart, but we do have alot of places who are more then happy to sell these games… when they come out that is. Guess Ill have to shop around if I am concerned for my wallet -.-

  • Hendrick

WTF, Its the excact same article from nintendoentusiast! Can someone explain this please…

Ow, I’m wrong sorry Wiiudaily! My bad!

The same way Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 worked.

Wait, you meant the 3D effect. Never mind.

  • Jeovany
