Each region had their own Nintendo Direct today and while a lot of it had the same content with regional information, a surprise awaited us from the Japanese Nintendo Direct. PlayStation exclusive game Yakuza is now headed to the Wii U. The open world crime game will feature as a bundle, with the first and second titles in the series coming as a special HD collector’s edition.

During the video a trailer was shown that showed off HD-refined graphics, as well as exclusive gameplay features to the Wii U version. The bundle will be released in Japan on August 8th, but there’s no word on whether this title will make the transition to North America and Europe. Considering the original PlayStation 2 titles were available in North America and Europe, here’s to hoping we’ll see these soon as well.

Will you be picking them up if they are released?

B.S. This should’ve been in the NA announcement. I’ll get excited if it’s released in English.

    • Cesar Barroso

      maybe awaiting E3?!

  • Unprecedented partnership.

  • Shadriczo

Still watching the N direct, was gone on vacation for a few days.

  • Zombie Boy

If this comes out for the PAL region, I’ll definitely be making a purchase…

    • Nintenjoe82

Me too. Looking forward to xmas 2017 already 🙂

  • Nintedward

It should come to the west eventually.

    • Alex

Especially since Mr. Iwata is our new CEO of America, it will be very likely to come on all regions.

    • SoulSilverZero

Like Tales of Xillia, and that came out two years before…

  • Archiq09

    it’s Yakuza 1 and 2 in HD

  • Jonn McNally

It’s not new, this is Yakuza 1&2 HD which previously released on PS3 in Japan. If this makes it to the US then it’ll be worth something.

    • Which is what the article states.

      • Jonn McNally

        Nuh uh.

        • ” The open world crime game will feature as a bundle, with the first and second titles in the series coming as a special HD collector’s edition.”

          • JeanPaul

I really enjoy how you mods interact with us unlike in other sites. :’) makes me feel loved.

          • Nintendofreak

            feel the love brother

          • RyuNoHadouken

but it could be talking about the original PS2 games…why would they need to do an HD remake for HD versions of a game(PS3 versions)????

          • RandomInternetDude

I think she means that this “new bundle” is not new because a Yakuza 1&2 HD bundle was already released on the ps3 and its just being ported to the Wii-u. Your article dosent state this

          • Jonn McNally

This article is a jumbled mess when it doesn’t have to be. I’d get excited by looking at the title (being a Yakuza fan), but then get progressively turned down by the contents. It’s not a new bundle at all. This is a preexisting one that’s being ported to Wii U. And considering that the PS3 version hasn’t been localized in addition to Yakuza 5, it’s unwise to suggest this will now.

          • It’s not really a jumbled mess–it’s simply just missing a small bit of information. Perhaps the writer wasn’t aware of the Yakuza 1 & 2 HD Edition release for PS3 late last year.

But even that lacking bit of info didn’t make the article “a jumbled mess.” Anyone can effectively gather that:

            a) It was a PlayStation (brand)-exclusive franchise now coming to the Wii U in the form of an HD bundle (even if it’s not particularly new as such an HD bundle).

            b) It’s coming August 8th in Japan.

No real confusion there. The article was short just to simply let people know it’s been announced. And by the way, she didn’t suggest that this will be localized. She did only just say:

“…Considering the original PlayStation 2 titles were available in North America and Europe, here’s to hoping we’ll see these soon as well.

Will you be picking them up if they are released?”

            Complain carefully, my friend.

          • I believe what Jonn McNally is trying to say is that Yakuza 1 & 2 HD Edition for the PS3 was released in November of last year in Japan, and that this Yakuza HD Bundle is pretty much that exact same HD bundle, but now ported to the Wii U,

I think she’s stressing the fact that this HD bundle itself isn’t new, but already existing as this same HD bundle available for PS3 (minus the GamePad functionality). I believe the little conflict here is arising over calling the bundle “new.” Her issue here is in calling the HD bundle new when it’s really just a port.

Though, regardless, it is still a new bundle for the Wii U (regardless of any preexisting HD bundle)…which was your main and only point. No need raising stink over the minor usage of “new” here–the context was understood here, even when one understands the slight misunderstanding about this HD bundle already being on PS3.

Your reply re-quotes a portion of your original statement which is not particularly stating that this HD bundle was already the same HD bundle previously released PS3 in November (except with minor GamePad functionality). The quote is merely stating that the first and second titles in the series are coming as a special HD collector’s edition for Wii U.

Mention of the existing PS3 version isn’t anywhere in this brief article. So, she was correct in that sense that you never mentioned or reference this HD bundle being a port of the PS3 version. Both sides here could’ve made their points a little better.

Though, it’s really not that big of deal or anything. But hey, there’s the clarification. Meanwhile, we’re all gamers and still awesome beings, so this doesn’t matter much. Who wants donuts? 😉

          • Jonn McNally

The fact is that this article could’ve started out with “Yakuza 1&2 HD coming to Wii U” which is simplistic and more accurate.

        • JeanPaul

          You’re dumb…

          • Jonn McNally

Saying someone is dumb without an explanation only makes you look dumb.

      • Nintendofreak

dont listen to her ashley any person who bites a controller is not a truegamer or just looking for attention

        • One can be an attention-hog and still make a valid point somewhere. lol

    • RyuNoHadouken

      these are PS2 games

  • Rakim69

    Old PS2 games ?? Is this a joke ?

    • D.M.T

Yeah a remake. We are used to getting remakes from time to time, other consoles get remakes too

      • jay

        Remakes are welcome. Ports suck.

        • D.M.T

Ports suck? Not really, they only suck if they are lazy ports

    • Jamal Brown

ye i was thinkin the same thing 2

  • Michael Jurado

    ^_^ yes more gimmie more

  • wober2

nintendo seems really good at catering to the japanese audience. I do not feel like Nintendo of America does a good job at knowing its audience.

  • 150Db

I never owned a PS2 or 3 and always wanted to play Yakuza. This is a great idea and I’m looking forward to it!

  • Adrian

    Me want. Me get.

  • Ducked

Nintendo doesn’t understand why they’ve lost interest in the west. Hmmm, maybe if we gave people in North America and Europe these nice bundles, then we might strike more interest.

  • RandomInternetDude

If they are going to bother re-making the Yakuza series then I sure hope they are working on the Shenmue series. Shenmue 3 has already waited so long.

  • Dodge Pribyl

    I really want this.

  • Pikachief

I just wanted to say that Ashley King does a really good job at making sure news arrives at a timely manner. I know she’s not the only one working for but she seems to be the only person available at a regular basis to handle anything when there isn’t others around.

Especially a good job at getting all the Nintendo Direct (“Nintendorect”?) info out pretty quickly on your own, Ashley! 🙂

    • Michael Jurado

I too have noticed ashley kicking butt kudos

  • Daniel Mc’Conville

  • The Wii U simply cannot live on remakes for very long. I don’t want announcements of remakes of old games. I want announcements of new games on the horizon. If you’re going to put out remakes for the meantime (supposing it is just for satisfying a meantime), at least follow it up with an announcement of a new project underway as well.

    • Wait for E3 then brah

    • Peter

Well they did announce a new exclusive Sonic game at the same time, along with release dates for Pikmin 3 and the all-new Wonderful 101.

  • Archiq09

    I have see ps4 price: 600€ (near 800$) o.o

    • Petri

I honestly hope that is just a place holder (our retailer has it on 999€).
It will not sell with that price tag.

    • Peter

Adjusted for European sales taxes, it usually coverts directly to dollars.

Could be another $599, but I doubt it.

  • Looks good to me. I’d probably pick it up.

  • cusman

I wait patiently for the Xenoblade Chronicles HD re-release. More people need to be able to play that game on Nintendo’s latest console which added Gamepad, HD-graphics, and Miiverse.

  • John Raybell

Figure I would spill the news before wiiudaily, well IGN with help from me 🙂

    Sorry for to many posts
