Platinum Games is putting the finishing touches on The Wonderful 101, an open-world action game where the player controls 100 different heroes in his quest to defend a city from alien invaders. The game was recently showcased at PAX East, where it was payable by attendees. Wonderful 101 tends to get overlooked when it comes to exciting upcoming Wii U games, which is a shame, as it looks pretty fun. Check out the gameplay footage below.

It looks incredible. Will no doubt be a memorable game on Wiiu! Please Nintendo , take the sheets off of this , pikmin 3 , Wii fit U , Game and wario. Not to mention Yoshi yarn , Wii U party and Pokemon Rumble U with NFC toys (YAY TOYS) . And throw in another teaser trailer for that beast of a game – X .

They should have a Nintendo direct discussing these games and their release dates ๐Ÿ™‚ along with Deus EX , Injustice , Revelations HD and more!

Edit – for the record…. I aint buyin no wii fit U , but all those soccer momas will!

    • Easter_egg27

There will be a nintendo direct focusing on third-party games!

      • D.M.T

Yeah but when? Gamers these days get frustrated when no games are announced or talked about. Nintendo needs to make another Nintendo Direct ASAP or else people will continue to criticize Nintendo.

        • I’m expecting an Easter Nintendo Direct.

        • Easter_egg27

I have already bet a date with other guy.
I think beetween 27th march and 2nd April

        • NkoSekirei

probably at e3 their trying to save the best for last at e3 gives them something to blow the minds of gamers especially wen retro will reveal their biggest gamer they been working for a while

          • I hope nintendos e3 is, last years wasnt so grand to me that is then plus with maybe an announcement from microsoft and playstations e3 this year needs to be good so wishing them all the best but hopeing more so for the wii u.

          • Easter_egg27

            This E3 will rock!

            Microsoft console? Yes.

            Sony console? Yes

Launch games for both consoles? Yes

            Nintendo games? Yes

            Retro? Probably yes

            Mario Kart

            Mario 3D

Smash Bros and a lot of unveiled games.

I think itยดs better to me to not think about it because I really get excited and ancious about it!

      • WiiUltra

DId you hear that XSEED’s Pandoras Tower is coming to the US next month? That would be cool to mention in the Nintendo Direct.

        • Easter_egg27

Iยดm european so the game is already available here.
          From last year i think.
But I hadnยดt the time and pleasure to play it

    • DragonSilths

Yoshi Land U NOT YARN YOSHI. Remember the Miiverse hack from back then? Said Yoshi Land Wii U.

      • Nintedward

Yeah , it’s an untitled game so far , everyone seems to be calling it yoshi tarn cus parts of the gameplay looked to have the same art style as Kirbys epic yarn. Although some of the screenshots have a wierd realistic look to them like there is 2 kinds of art style in one ๐Ÿ™‚

  • It’s a shame that these kind of innovative and unique games get overlooked by the generic crap that gets pumped out so much these days. Wonderful 101 is certainly high up on my list, along with Bioshock Infinite, Injustice: Gods Among Us, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, and Pikmin 3. I’ll probably only end up getting two of these though. What to do! Too many good games coming!

    • Fred

Get Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101 for sure then decide if you want the rest

      • Well I think I’m gonna get Bioshock Infinite for sure, because I’m a massive fan of the Bioshock series. That leaves one game left.

    • NkoSekirei

i agree and ignore any troll that tries to bash these kind of good games and i cant wait to get my hands on bayonetta 2 in about 2 months from now

    • mikel334u2

Gah! Why no Bioshock Infinite on Wii U yet? D: (As a side note, if any Nintendo gamers think that bioshock infinite is just a generic FPS that the Wii U doesn’t need, YOU’RE WRONG)

      • Absolutely. Bioshock Infinite on Wii U would’ve been a HUGE boost. And not only that, it would have played amazing with the gamepad. A complaint that people have with it right now is that there is a pause in the action when you switch vigors. If they mapped that to the gamepad, there’d be no cut in gameplay. Plus, the hardware could handle the better textures that PC recieved. I think it was a dumb choice for Irrational not to make a simple Wii U port at the very least. Oh well.

        • mikel334u2

Yea, I really hope that they just make a Wii U version sometime in the future because I’ve heard nothing but good things about this game.

      • DragonSilths

I had no interest on Bioshock Infinite for the longest time…then I pre-ordered it and payed it off for the Xbox 360. If we get that 3rd Party Wii U Nintendo Direct and find out Bioshock Infinite is coming to Wii U then Im going to rage!!!

    • djvalbnc

they are talking about “not enough games on wii u”

but right know I want to buy Need for Speed, Monster Hunter, Lego City and W101.

      and I already own AC3, COD BO2, Trine 2 & mario bros U. I never
had/wanted that many games on a console in the first 4 month.

I don’t even have time to play all because of work & other hobbys

      • Elem187

Monster Hunter online is simply amazing…. I give the single player offline game a 7/10, and online aspect 9/10.

    • GermGerm

whichever one comes out first ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Elem187

Luigi’s mansion 2 is amazing. I keep grabbing my 3DS to sneak in mansions in between break time at work.

  • Easter_egg27

    Wonderful 101 is an open-world?
    I thought it wasnยดt!

    • Nintedward

Might be open/linear. Like this level is walking through a certain path through a city? I dunno. Hopefully it’s open!

  • Ibi Salmon

    This or Pikmin 3?

    • D.M.T

      Both ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Nintedward

        • Easter_egg27

Sorry for the off topic but…
Youยดre the guy that used to discuss with that troll named David?
Youยดre the Nintendward that had the gamecube picture, right?

          • Nintedward

Yeah. I am Nintedward ๐Ÿ™‚ . Nobody is copying me from as far as I know ๐Ÿ™‚ . I used to comment on this site a LOT. But then they changed it to discuss and it wouldn’t let me sign in for ages until I recently made a new disqus acount recently ๐Ÿ™‚

          • Easter_egg27

Yes I remember you, I am coming to this site almost everyday since February 2012.
            Do you remember David?
That guy that used to troll here in the site.
I also remember Saria and a lot of other guys.

      • Ibi Salmon

But I’ve never played any of the previous Pikmin games. I don’t want to be lost.

Maybe I’ll hunt down previous Pikmin games…

        • Cerus98

Both Pikmin games were re-released for the Wii and are easy to find for $19.99 new. My local Wal-Marts have them both as well as most other retailers. They’re amazing games and my all time favorites however they really aren’t the kind of games where you need to play them all. There is a story but you won’t be lost having not played them. But I highly recommend that you do as they are extremely entertaining.

          • And not to mention the Club Nintendo points you get for the purchase.

          • Ibi Salmon

All right. When I have the budget, I’ll check them out.

  • D.M.T

I’m more excited about this game than Pikmin 3. This game reminds me of Viewtiful Joe and I was a Viewtiful Joe fan but this game looks even BETTER. I have a feeling that i will have so much fun playing this alone and with friends.

The reason why this game gets overlooked is because it’s a new IP. No one knows how fun this game actually is. It’s the first game of it’s kind and most people don’t know what to expect. I expect this game to be more fun than Lego City, Monster Hunter and even Pikmin 3.

    • I’m excited for both. And I think it’s unfair for Wonderful 101 to be overlooked. I’m optimistic that once word gets out and it gets sterling reviews, it’ll get the publicity that it deserves. I bet it’ll be system seller material. Hopefully I don’t have to eat my words…

    • Chris Aita

Platinum Games is the same studio who made Viewtiful Joe, Okami and GodHand before Capcom dropped the company a few years back. What is in common with all these games? They all kick ass!

    • Easter_egg27

I think i would put it by this order:
      1-Lego City
      2-Wonderful 101
      3-Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate / Pikmin 3

  • uPadWatcher

The Wonderful 101 are one of the two best titles coming to the Wii U that’s developed by PlatinumGames. Kamiya is truly a genius when it comes to making a new Nintendo title that everyone will be playing until Bayonetta 2 launches later this year.

  • Super Buu

A unique/creative game that focuses on gameplay rather than graphics and ”mature” subject matter in this day and age? In other words, we need more games like this.

    • I guess I’ll try to be positive here and I might buy this for my niece for when they come over but still waitting on a game for me thats new

  • bizzy gie

  • tooby77

Remember to take it easy with your gamepad while partying

    • ConCity Soldier

      • tooby77

Yes, it got a bit rough. ๐Ÿ™‚ but my insurence company will cash out a complete delux set to me cause gamepads cant be ordered separatly so i am pretty happy anyway, i have to pay only 750sek (113$)

        • Nintedward

If my gamepad ever brakes like that I will do the biggest slow motion no ever. It will be like this

          • tooby77

Damn, i will only get a new gamepad from nintendo, paied by insurence company. (They charge 850:-sek, about 128$) thats with shipping, changing gamepad)

          • Nintedward

What country are you from Norway ? do they also not use the Euro like England ? if so , cool!

          • tooby77

Nope from sweden. Here we use swedish kronor. Hope we will contenue have SEK for ever. ๐Ÿ™‚
I miss my gamepad gaming, i wont have tv for my self. I tested some pro controller and tv today, damn i sucked. ๐Ÿ™‚ i called gamestop today and i will get my money back for the walking dead, and will get lego (28/3) instead. Nice gesture coz i have bought so many games there

          • Nintedward

Sweden is awesome! I love a LOT of things for sweden. I love Ikea , I love the Meatballs , Dime bars , Kopperberg (best drink ever) , Ibrahimovic , Kroenigsegg ๐Ÿ™‚ Sweden is one of the best European countries ๐Ÿ˜€

            Does walking dead suck ?

          • tooby77

Hehe cool. Yes it sadly sucked big time. Gameplay, controlls, lack of openworld/play, graphic looked like n64/gamecube. Not that graphic matter so much for me but this was just bad. I really hoped that twd whould be amazing like the show. Zombies gave a litte chill btw and that was all

    • Fred

I’ve seen that Nintendo will replace it for you for $140 (better than the full price of a new Wii U!

    • Richard Yates

lol the fact that controller has a protective case cracks me up! get it? cracks me up!

  • Looks like you gather your wonderful 101 during gameplay. And I really like the wireframe model views on bigger enemies, nonetheless sadly I personally can’t say I’m hyped for this title nor am I for Pikmin 3. If I had to choose between Pikmin 3 and W101 I’ll take W101 though.

Still I’m sorry this game just doesn’t convince me to justify a WiiU purchase, it’s just not for me. Many will buy it anyway many seem to be hyped on this title, that’s a good thing atleast ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Nothing big. Not everything is for everyone. Unfortunately, the real system seller games won’t be coming out until late summer/ early autumn.

  • jcnba28

Come on guys this looks great but in no way will it be better than Pikmin 3. Miyamoto has spent years developing Pikmin 3, it will be a masterpiece.

    • I think there’s room for both. They’ll both be good in their own respect. Pikmin 3 looks like it’ll be a little more strategy oriented and Wonderful 101 seems like it’ll be a little more action oriented.

  • Jake

I want to see how the Gamepad is used. We saw it in the trailer for like 5 sec. If I worked for Nintendo, All of the debut trailer would show how the Gamepad is used. Then future trailer/videos would show of the other stuff.

  • Fred

Does anyone know if there’s any multi-player in this game?

  • david jarman

This is my must buy. I’ve been waiting for it since day 1.

  • Andrew Gonzalez

This looks like so much fun.

  • Vakua Dorn

that boss looks like he’s made of legos!

  • Linskarmo

I definitely want this game. It looks very fun!

  • RyuNoHadouken

  • tronic307

This looks totally arcade. I want the game and that nice TV in the video too!

  • dylanbob121

    open world?

  • Michael Jurado

  • Fuzunga

They’ve been using the same demo since E3 last year!

  • Kirzan

Looks… surprisingly nice! Like a very arcade version of Pikmin! As for the “open-worldedness”, I don’t think it is. That “GO –>” indicator pretty much tells you where to go in a linear fashion to your next “mission”.

Maybe you choose a “world” and then it’s a bunch of missions back to back like this. Maybe you can even start at a specific mission within a world if there’s any use to backtracking. I heard there aren’t any RPG elements, so probably just collectibles or scores/medals/whatever you’re evaluated with.

Still looks a lot more fun than I had imagined. Specially if you get to draw shapes. Like at the beginning of the video, that gun ability. The tutorial prompt seems to tell the user to make the shape and it pops a gun in the game. Maybe very basic scribblenauts elements?

  • dgallo911

wow, a half decent looking game for the wii u….. $50 they take a leaf out of ubisofts playbook and deciede to release multiplatform at the end of the year lol

  • what is release date for this?

  • Wii u elite with 2 games ยฃ199 at hmv

  • thedeciderU

Wow, this is way more appealing to me than it was a few months ago. Will probably buy.

  • Zelly Jeffers

Gimme! Gimme now! I’ve been excited about this game since the very first glimpse I got way before I even bought my Wii U.

  • Marius Valasinas

Not my kind of game (neither is Pikmin 3) but glad it’s exclusively on Wii U. God knows Nintendo needs all it can get to boost Wii U sales. Some people complain that there’s nothing much to play on it, but when I bought PS3 once it launched, there was much less to play on it. So much less. I was waiting months till some next average game comes out. Wii U has so much more and soon will have more and more.

  • miigamerz

    i want it so bad.

  • Ian Rahn

    This game looks so bad
