With Wind Waker HD headed our way soon, Nintendo has released a new teaser site for the game that features plenty of content. Trailers, Eiji Aonuma’s Nintendo Direct, as well as several screenshots are available for viewing. One of the new teaser images shows the item selection screen for the game on the GamePad, which we haven’t seen before now.

It looks like Nintendo is ramping up to release more information about the game and hopefully we’ll get a North American release date along with it, since Europe will be getting the game in October.

Check it out here!

    Still so long until October…
W101 should keep me busy meanwhile.

  • Zombie Boy

I never played the GameCube version, so this is a whole new Legend Of Zelda for me πŸ™‚

Who else here has never played Wind Waker before?

    • RoyRelapse

Played half through it, got stuck, then stopped. So I am very excited for this too, since there is a lot I still don’t know about.

    • Keyser

I’ve never played wind waker before but now it is definitely my top choice this fall!

    • rulqua

      Hell yeah

    • Jack5221

NEVER Played it!!! Im super excited to try it out for the first time, in glorious HD!

    • Tim van Broekhoven

      Yup me

    • Rugmouse

I’m in a difficult position with this one. I have never played Windwaker, and all my friends that have played it confirm this is an excellent game. My difficulty lies in the backlog of games I currently have to work through – Pikmin 3, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, The Wonderful 101 next month, along with some of my secondary Wii titles (both Mario Galaxy games and Twilight Princess).

The Zelda formula, to Miyamoto’s own admission, has been relatively unchanged for some time. The fact that I started Twilight Princess, only to check out newer titles makes me nervous that perhaps I’m growing tired of the routine, something I hate to admit, but may nevertheless be the case.

I need to do some soul searching on this title. I LOVE(ed?) Zelda games, with Ocarina of Time being one of those amazing experiences engrained in my gaming memory, but is Windwaker going to be just more of the same? I’d love some feedback on this!

      • Zombie Boy

It’s hard as someone who has never played it to tell you why it’d be worth buying.

The only thing I can really say is that the gamepad will probably make a difference in the way you play, between this and other Legend Of Zelda games. There also seems to be a lot more exploration in this one, which is why they translated it to the Wii U (bigger world, and all that).

Maybe someone else can tell you more, though.

      • Potemkin

It’s totally worth it, buy it. Wind Waker is the best Zelda since OoT, and you will definitely you will see some of it’s influence in Twilight Princess.

    • Magnus Eriksson

Never played it. But Ill get it.

    • incoherent1

      I haven’t played it either!

I also haven’t played Skyward Sword, so I’m considering picking up a second hand copy of that to pass the time and maybe pick up WW on sale on Black Friday. We’ll see!

      • Zombie Boy

I never played Skyward Sword either. Currently working through Twilight Princess (as well as a few Wii U titles), so I’ll finish that, then get Wind Waker and then Skyward Sword. After I’ve gotten through all that, we may be closer to Zelda U!

        • incoherent1

I’m about 22 hours into Twilight Princess myself! Glad to hear I’m not the only one who was late to the game on TP πŸ™‚

          • Zombie Boy

I played every one (NES, Snes, N64 and Gameboy versions) but never bought a GameCube, and my Wii kind of became a family thing so I never bought them for that either. But now I have the Wii U to myself, so it’s time to catch up!

          • Kevin

Such an amazing game, I invested 45 hours into twilight princess, of course finding all those gold bugs and heart pieces, more than half the poes though lol, and a good 38 hours in skyward sword, i can’t wait for wind waker, never played it for more than an hour, how sad

          • 00EpicGamer00

My first Zelda game was Zelda Twilight Princess….I think I’m the latest to the Zelda party :/

          • ElladanCZ

            False πŸ˜€
            Skyward Sword for me.

    • aldo2410

never played it, and I consider myself a TLOZ fan, but that’s about to change Wind Waker here I go.

    • Clel

      Oh, ooh me, me!

    • Ernie Sanguyo

Never play it either so it’s going to be fun πŸ™‚

    • The Clockwork Being

Never played it getting it. I have a friend that has played it but will get it. It actually is his favorite Zelda game.

    • Linskarmo

I haven’t either. I started tLoZ with OoT 3D. WW looks very fun!

    • Michael Ocampo

Have fun Zombie Boy! It’s an awesome game and I consider it to be my favorite zelda game (SS is a close second cause of the awesome controls)

    • barwiifan

I haven’t played it either, and I want to, but I need money!

  • Aamir Islam

    I can’t wait!

  • CEObrainz

Love this game, it looks even better now in HD. Having borrowed the original, I’ll be happy with this being my first copy of Wind Waker.

  • sdmac200600

I’m dropping $180 in November between this game, Sonic lost world and DKC:TF. Bye money. I knew ye well.

  • Keyser

To anyone who hasn’t preordered yet its still only $50 at Walmart (at least in America)

    • Baum γ€Œγƒ„γƒͺー」

      on both continents…?

      • Keyser

In the US, I don’t think any preorders are open yet in Canada

        • Baum γ€Œγƒ„γƒͺー」

well, the US =/= america πŸ˜‰

          • Name another country in the western hemisphere with America in it’s name? Haters just hate us.

          • Baum γ€Œγƒ„γƒͺー」

It doesn’t matter? There are also some People, who refer to Great Britain as “Europe” ….it’s just plain stupid, when you just have to type 2 letters and everyone will still get what you mean…

I’m not hating, I’m just pissed because of the ignorance of some People.

          • Arthur Jarret

In the Netherlands, there’s a tiny village named America.
            It’s really boring.

        • Jon

gamestop where I am is allowing pre-orders of it and I am in Nova Scotia. Sadly, I don’t have money πŸ™

    • Smurfman256

It also has a release date of October 4th on their website. Odd…

    • Elem187

I would but I want digital…. I need Nintendo published games to fill up my massive 1,500gb of space. This harddrive wont fill up itself.

  • SonicLucario

Im so excited to play this masterpiece once again πŸ˜€

    • “I’m so excited?” That sounds like one of those generic, paid for hype job reviews we see on Amazon. You know, the kind where people leave no details that indicates that they watched a film, read a book or even own the product – only positive things to promote sales. Try again.

      • Jimmy D. Fugate

Or maybe they are actually excited….you give it a rest.

        • Maybe, but they did not give us and specifics as to why they would be excited. Do you read Amazon reviews?

          • Rugmouse

I actually agree with this. As a fence sitter, debating whether I should experience this game, I’d love to hear additional details as to why it’s such a masterpiece…and more importantly, what sets it apart from other Zelda installments.

          • Agent721

Is it not possible to read the original reviews across the web???!!!

          • fireheartis1

Fine you want to know why anyone would be excited to play Wind Waker again or for the first time. How about the music that draws you in like no other Zelda game has before. How about Toon Link giving of so much emotion that you can actually feel when he’s angry about his sister getting kidnaped, or when he finds out his purpose in history. I’m trying to tell you without giving spoilers here, but it’s really hard to do that. How about actually feeling scared when Link is scared in some of the adventures. How about some of the most gorgeous art style of graphics you’ll ever see. How about Gannon actually being the scariest Gannon even though he is a cartoon. Is that enough reason for why we are excited to play through this masterpiece again?

          • Zombie Boy

I don’t think Rugmouse is trolling, I think he’s genuinely interested in the game. He explained further up in the comments why he’s asking.

          • Rugmouse

Trolling is not my thing – I’ll throw in some feeble attempt at humor every now and then, but I certainly don’t want to derail the conversations here…I’m trying to develop them!

Trolling – no, Long winded – definite yes, unfortunately

          • Rugmouse

I appreciate your feedback, and I hope I didn’t come across as trolling – if I did, it was completely unintentional.

I’ve read reviews along with doing a fair bit of research on this game, and to me this sort of work only gets you so far. I actually really like the community here and respect many of the opinions and ideas brought to the table – my intent behind my comment was to better flush out the reasons why people *here* praise the game so wholeheartedly.

Again, thank you for your reasoning!

          • Jimmy D. Fugate

Yes I do. Personally I’m excited to play a Zelda game, as I have never played one before. I’ve heard WW is one of the best.

          • Arthur Jarret

I’m excited to read Amazon reviews

          • BIG Franky

dude what do you give a shit for? he is excited. thats all he needs to say…. you aren’t entitled to an explanation any more than we are of your opinions. get a life dude. there is no requirement wherein we need to explain why we feel a certain way about a game.

          • Tim Tebow is always ‘excited’ about everything too, and that gives us no clue as to what he is excited about, except to say that he is excited! It is BS talk.

          • Clel

So basically, if I say, the Earth is a sphere and I don’t explain why, then I’m wrong.
And if I say the Earth is flat but I do give an explanation, then I’m right.

            Fair enough.

          • Andreas Sunde

This is a comment on a news article, not a review on Amazon.

      • SonicLucario

Whoa dude, why are you attacking me? What els could I possibly say? Im excited to play the game, its simple as that. I don’t need to write a novel on how excited I am to play this game.

    • Agent721

Were all excitted! Well, at least most of us!

    • Elem187

Do we know if its going to be 60fps? After Pikmin 3 being in 30fps I’m really hoping we can get our first 60fps real Nintendo title (Nintendoland doesn’t count because its only 60fps half of the time, and NSMBU just doesn’t count because I say so)

      • SonicLucario

I dont understand, all I said was that I’m excited to play this game, why are people telling me that I dont even know the specs behind the hardware? Seriously its just a game

  • Elitepwnsface

  • Leo

To people who never played it: just do it!

Wind Waker is one the best games i’ve ever played. It’s a masterpiece!

  • MichaelEhrgott

Excited to play it again but I still wish it was Majora’s Mask HD.

    • Fred

Wouldn’t Majora’s Mask 3D be more likely since they’ve already developed the tools?

      • MichaelEhrgott

        Yeah that makes sense.

      • Elem187

Yeah they wouldn’t be able to do with an HD remake of Majora’s Mask without some serious money/time sink into it.

The assets were all designed with 240p resolution in mind, so its a perfect fit for the 3DS… moving that up to 1080p would basically require every model to be redone, every map/area, redone, all of the textures would need to be replaced.

The amount of work required would be about the same as making an entirely new 3D Zelda game…. So the only real choices would have been Wind Waker, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword.

Skyward Sword just came out, so that wouldn’t work. Twilight Princess in HD would look gorgeous but step on the toes of the new Wii U Zelda game…. so that left Wind Waker.

        • Mochlum

I heard Wind Waker’s models were technically already HD, so it wouldn’t take near as much development time. Also, the new Zelda game is supposed to take a darker more realistic art style, so they did this to satisfy the fans of the more cartoony fans.

Off-topic: Slow news day, isn’t it?

    More off-topic:

Ashley: The one thing I’m actually missing from this website are weekly release announcements.

It would be nice to get a ‘moneypit monday’ article, which shows the new releases that week for each of the three major regions – including the e-shop releases – for both Wii U and 3DS – as well as digital price reductions

For instance, Ducktales will arrive on eShop tomorrow (at least in europe) – and the 3DS eShop will have a discount on the New super mario bros. 2 map packs. I would love to be notified by you guys what to look out for in my week!

    • Zombie Boy

Any idea what new Virtual Consoles game(s) will arrive tomorrow?

      • Arthur Jarret

I know for europe, only a wii VC game (not U) and 2 3ds games – don’t know what the US’ll get.

        Wii U download software
        PokΓ©mon Rumble U
        DuckTales: Remastered

        Trine 2: Director’s Cut (Wii U)
New Super Mario Bros. 2:level packs (Nintendo 3DS)
        Groove Heaven (Nintendo 3DS)

        • Zombie Boy

I’m in the UK myself. I wasn’t aware that Duck Tales was being released today and I might finally check out Trine 2 as well, now that there’s a discount. Thanks for the info πŸ™‚

    • Fred

She usually does this on Thursday when Nintendo announces which VC games are coming (they always come on Thursdays)

    • Fred is right. Usually these announcements are posted on Thursday since that’s when new eShop titles become available. Check for it tomorrow. πŸ™‚

      • Arthur Jarret

Ah, well noted (and as I’ve been reading the site since day one, I should know it) – but isn’t the official press release about digital releases by nintendo usually earlier than their website?

I always thought they announced on monday – shows how much I know…

Anyway, I’d love to read a weekly opinion piece on all releases (retail too) for the coming week for both nintendo platforms – just my two cents. Keep up the articles and thanks for ’em!

        • Arthur Jarret

And by this I meant – make it a regular weekly feature (accessible by that neat lil’ feature button on top of the screen) – and include an opinion piece about upcoming releases on your radar, links of convention previews etc. I would appreciate it…

  • Jack5221

I wont be able to get this game until December along with Mario 3D World, Sonic, and Donkey Kong, due to where I live. Release date has nothing to do with it, its just that here in Costa Rica 50 – 60$ games are always 100 – 105$. I could buy them off the eShop for their USA price, however I have the 8gb Wii U, on top of that I dont have an external storage. Plus, I prefer to have the CD. I have to wait so long because I wont be visiting the states until December. Luckily for me, my brother comes back from the states on Sept 18, he will be bringing me Pikmin 3, Luigi DLC (Physical Copy) Wonderful 101, and Rayman, so I should be okay for a few months. πŸ™‚

    • JBeauregard

wow, the prices are crazy. I’ve heard other parts of the world are the same way. I have Pikmin 3. It’s an amazing game, but my console was sent back to Nintendo for a repair (gamepad isn’t communicating). You’ll really enjoy it!
At any rate, it doesn’t look like you’ll be lacking content until you can get those other titles! Enjoy!

      • Jack5221

I dont mind waiting a few extra months to get my games. Its kind of fun getting them in bulk. I currently have, Black Ops 2, Lego City, Injustice, MH3U, New Super Mario Bros U, Wario Ware, and Nintendo Land. Plus all the great VC titles. Most people tell me their Wii U collects dust, mine is played almost every day lol.

        • JBeauregard

We have the same games, basically. I don’t have Wario, though. My Wii U doesn’t collect dust, ever (it did in March and April because of work load). It’s played for a few hours daily, and to watch movies.

        • Elem187

I have the 8gb White console also.. no dust, I play mine everyday.

    • Zuxs13

Ill send you a cop if you send me some fresh coffee in return. lol not sure if a US copy works there or not,

      • Elem187

It should, its all North American region.

    • Elem187

Invest in external storage.. runs specails on external harddrives all the time. I got my 1,500gb drive for $55.

  • Cyrus Malachi

I never really got into this zelda game on gamecube for the simple fact that i hated how you always had to stop and change the direction of the wind everytime you was in the boat and wanted to head in another direction. I felt that it was a stupid concept. I did watch my brother-in-law play through the game. Loved how it ended, that was awesome. But since the touch screen is there and hopefully they made changing the wind less time consuming, i might just pick this game up.

    • MujuraNoKamen

I think they have changed the whole wind thing. I’m sure in a recent trailer they showed Link changing the wind direction without having to listen to the song again immediately after playing it (really annoyed me too) And even if I am mistaken, the new sail not only allows you travel faster but can go at speed even without wind blowing into it so we don’t need to bother using the Wind Waker πŸ™‚ Since they’ve altered the infamously tedious collect-athon at the end of the game, made inventory management easier and are adding new content I’d say this is going to be perfection.

      • Cyrus Malachi

Yeah and with it in hd, its gonna be an awesome remake.

  • Agent721

My favorite Zelda by far. I beat Skyward Sword a few months ago & I cant wait to get back on the Zelda bandwagon. This game is simply one of my all time favorites due to the vast exploration and the superb saturday morning cartoon graphic style. Im all over this like Link on blue rupee. If you have not played this game, this is the perfect opportunity to play a classic.

  • fireheartis1

I don’t know if I can stand that little kids snot hanging out in HD lol. It looked funny on the GameCube, but on Wii U in HD it’s kind of creeping me out.

  • reyn69sharla

i havent been this excited for a release since, you guessed it, xenoblade
i have too many games to play, pikmin 3, no more heroes 1 and 2 and i even went out and bought the gamecube versions of resident evil 1 and 4. i also bought zelda spirit tracks for my DS and downloaded earthbound and kirby.

  • Elem187

Wind Waker looks amazing with self shading and dynamic lighting… I’m glad they really put some effort into this instead of doing a lazy uprezzed port and just calling it a remake like another platform holder out there does with their “remakes”..
All the new assets look breathtaking.

  • Elem187

Do we know the frame rate yet? After Pikmin 3 (amazing game) was in 30fps, I’m hoping we can get our first 60fps Nintendo developed Wii U game
Wonderful 101 will semi-fill that void, but its a Platinum Games game.
