Up until now we’ve only been able to compare graphics between the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 when it comes to comparisons with Nintendo’s newest console. Now that the PlayStation 4 is out, we can finally see if there is a dramatic difference between the Wii U and Sony and Microsoft’s next-gen consoles.

This video from IGN shows off the graphical differences between the Wii U, the PS4, and the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. As you can see, the Wii U clearly sits between the Playstatition 3 and the PlayStation 4, which is what many developers have been saying all along.

What do you think?

  • Chronic Gang

ps4 is obviously better but not by much in comparison to wii u

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Considering this is a multiplatform game, did you expect a huge difference?

      • Chronic Gang

Yes as it seems ubisoft is leaning more towards playstation then any other console out there now

        • Daniel Gonzalez

I wouldn’t expect much from multiplats, especially since this game is a cross-platform title. PS4 games will look far better than this in a couple of years. Developers will max out the hardware. Wii U won’t beat its rivals in graphics, but I know it can certainly push more than the PS3 and 360 in a few years time too.

Basically means, that the Wii U will behind in the graphics department. Of course, Nintendo wasn’t looking to compete anyways, and that’s fine. We’ll still see a lot of impressive games down the line.

          • Rinslowe

I wonder, are there really any people who ever thought Wii U was in the same league as PS4/ Xb1? In terms of brute force performance?

There’s enough literature out there now to know exactly where next gen is power wise. And enough on Wii U to realise this one is not like the others…

But neither three new consoles are pushing that graphical boundary IMO…

The reason we will see impressive games down the line is due to being open minded about the fact, visuals are less important than performance and innovation trumps everything.

Hence the fact, if Watchdogs delivers, like DE-HR DC, then I’ll be gaming that on Wii U and not PC….

          • Daniel Gonzalez

PS4 and XB1 games show that graphics are going to get better in time. Launch titles don’t exactly show much to look forward to anyways. A lot of PS3 and 360 games at launch could pass for ps2 and xbox games.

I do love stronger visuals in games as along as good gameplay ties into it. I think it’s fun to see hardware pushed to it’s limits. With PC, it’s not possible as it can easily be upgraded, which to be honest, bores me in that aspect.

          • Rinslowe

I think the main point is that all consoles are going to improve over time. That is to be expected. And dev’s have said as much for all platforms…

I get that some people find tinkering around with PC’s a bore (personally I love it), but that doesn’t subtract from the fact it leads by a fair margin in every conceivable technical aspect. Multiplayer for eg; is a big deal for me. PC is unrivaled here. Mass Effect a great series that to me is a dish best served PC, because all of their innovation is in the character development, interaction and choices where gameplay is tight through traditional means… And the bonus is visual fidelity and overall stability in performance (not without it’s problems).
For me “next gen” is a bore, not because they are more powerful than Wii U. But because from a power perspective they’ll never quite by powerful enough.
PS4 – Vita connection has high latency, unless fixed this is game breaking in today’s world. Not to mention much more expensive than Wii U – Gamepad, which is practically no latency and cheaper. Visuals not being the most important factor in console gaming, so long as it’s not butt ugly… (no console today even Wii is guilty of that description)
Kinect was the true motion gimmick from the beginning and I’m certain only children under 10 truly enjoy it on a daily basis. Plus, who actually wants to talk to their console? Or swipe the menu?
            No thanks…

In summary, I too like stronger visuals, but gameplay and innovative play mechanics trump that depending on the game. This is my logic behind a PC – Wii U generation this time around.
(Of course I have every intention of picking up both “next gen” systems when the price is right and a ton of exclusives warrant a purchase as well…)

      • adslife80

Im not saying this just in response to you, but it hits the attitudes some have. When wii u came out people moaned that the multi plat games werent much different. Now we are here in the same position with ps4 and xbone and suddenly people are saying ‘ well its to be expected not much difference’. Yet when wii u came out these people moaned for this reason. Hypocritical and downright daft as the situation is exact the same. Also ps4 launch games are terrible in comparison to wii u (exclusives that is) yet no complaining about that like we heard with wii u.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

I never criticized Wii U in the same situation. I said the exact same words. It’s multiplatform, nothing to see here. Just to clear things up. πŸ™‚

    • Magnus Eriksson

The difference between WiiU and PS4 was still larger than the difference between Wii U and PS3/XB360

edit: whi is this downvoted? is truth that hard? man im happy im not a fanboy. πŸ™‚

      • Daniel Gonzalez

It’s not a huge jump considering it’s a mutlplatform game, but the differences are certainly noticeable enough. For instance, I can see the pores on the skin of characters on the PS4 version and even detailed textures on clothing.

        • Magnus Eriksson

      • Nintedward

True. Wiiu is a bit better than PS360 versions while PS4 version is a lot better.
No shame in that for Wiiu, the console Is designed around its controller after all not just raw specs like the PS4.

        • Magnus Eriksson

Yeah, but the graphics jump between PS3 and PS4 was not that big either. It looks better. But the jump from Wii to Wii U is a huge jump compared to the jump between PS3 and PS4. I think Wii U will be able to do fairly what PS4 will do. Its in the details only.

      • Chronic Gang

i dont really think that ac4 has even pushed the wii u to its limits and niether with the ps4

        • Magnus Eriksson

Of course not. Thats not what I said either.

          • Chronic Gang

im just saying when they use the wii u to its max potential you will definitely notice a different wii u and ps360

      • darkcreap

True. That was expected. WiiU is a little bit more powerful than PS3 but PS4 is much more powerful than PS3. The gap is clearly higher between PS4-WiiU than it is between WiiU and PS3. Numbers already gave a clue about it.

      • manowaffles

I disagree with what you are saying here. I think the gap between the PS3/360 visuals & the Wii U are greater than the gap between the Wii U visuals & PS4 visuals. Worth noting are the details like the rigging on the ships and the more realistic hair that the PS4 & Wii U versions offer compared to the flat stale replacements on the PS3 & 360.

  • Steven_Segal

    Graphics: MEH
Gameplay: It definitely gets my attention

    • manowaffles

This is why the 7th generation of consoles (well the PS3 & 360 at least) won’t be going away very quickly. Unless Sony & Microsoft start paying developers to not develop PS3 & 360 versions of multi-platform games, 90% of their instal base will not upgrade for the changes on the table here.

Most people are not early adaptors, and if 3rd party developers are making a multi-platform game, they would be stupid not to sell games to the huge number of PS3 & 360 owners out there.

For at least the next 3 years PS3 owners will out number PS4 owners by more than a 7-1 margin. Same thing for the 360 vs. the X1.

  • val berger

The point of that video is, that you obviously don’t need to buy a PS4 to play it. If you already have one, lucky you, it looks better, but it really is everything but a gamechanger. WiiU looks OK i guess.

    • wiiucompl

      /irony mode on/
      Can I use Gamepad with PS4 ?
      /irony mode off/
Thanks, Wii U version is good enough to have fun.

      • val berger

Actually, as (at least) AC3 didn’t really profit from the gamepad that much, I wouldn’t say its so important. Off TV Play is, like with all games, nice, map and so on of course too, but the game remains a 3rd party title designed to fit all systems needs.

        • wiiucompl

I mean – PS4, not only AC games.

      • manowaffles

You can use your Vita with the PS4. Not the same, but still an option that fills many of the same roles.

        • wiiucompl

Right. But for me Wii U is simply better – Gamepad is a dedicated controler with bigger screen and normal size joysticks/pushbuttons. Non multitouch screen of GamePad is – in this type of controller – better than more sensitive Vita.

          • manowaffles

While I personally prefer my Gamepad over the Vita, the Vita does have it’s strengths. It has a much wider range than the Gamepad, and has a more elegant design focusing on form over function.

          • darkcreap

I was wodering that precisely the other day. In general, I am satisfied by my WiiU gamepad screen. I do not own a Vita, but I have always wondered if a more sensitive screen would be better.

  • Jack5221

Difference in graphics is extremely minimal. They all look the same unless you zoom in. But then again… Gameplay > Graphics.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Multiplats never have much of a difference.

      • Logic

Unless you compare Battlefield 4 on the PS3 and PS4, that’s the only game so far that shows the difference in raw horsepower between those two consoles.

        • Rinslowe

True, it’s literally night and day in that scenario.

    • well, i dont see a “minimal” PS4 have good details… but i will never buy one.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

I can see the differences just fine. You don’t have to zoom in to see it. To each their own.

  • SamusPrime

I understand that this is a PS4 launch title, and it is not using the full capabilities of the PS4 hardware, but other than a cleaner look with more vegetation, I wasn’t blown away by the PS4 version.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Same here, but it’s still quite impressive with the higher quality lighting and water certainly looks a lot more detailed. While character textures weren’t that big of a difference, they are noticeable.

  • Seth S. Scott

honestly some of the footage looks better on the Wii U. The night time stuff at the beginning looks nicer on PS4 but the footage at the end of the guy on the beach looks better on Wii U.

    • Seth S. Scott

all I know is graphics aside I cant play Mario and Zelda on a PS4. Next weekend is ALL about Big N!!

      • Seth S. Scott

….and I will be getting a PS4, but not until next year. I LOVE my PS3 but didnt get it at launch either.

  • Magnus Eriksson

Wii U is a tiny bit better or on a pair with 360 and PS3. PS4 looked better than the rest of them. Lightning effects, water and shadows as well as texture in clothing. Its a jump in graphics, but not a revolution. On the other hand, Wii U graphics is just a minimal or bareley noticable jump from the last gen.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

True. PS4 games will look a lot better later on than now. I expect Wii U games to look a little better than what we’ve seen this year. Of course, PS4 and Xbox One have the graphical advantage by a good margin. Gameplay wise is a subjective argument.

    • the thing is, that some developers don’t learn, and don’t want to take the time with the wii u.

      • Magnus Eriksson

Thats a bit unfair. This game is made by Nintendos strongest third party supporters. They have taken more time than anyone else on Wii U. I think they pushed it where they can push it this early in the dev stage (it takes some time to get used to it).

  • Seth S. Scott

Even on the still from the video above the guys skin looks like a reptile on the PS4 (right) side. I have no doubt that in time PS4 games will look AMAZING but right now they dont. Wii U games look great to me and I couldn’t be happier with the console….especially when Mario 3D World comes out.

    • Kay Wrobel

      Agreed. And it will rock!

      • Mario

        I’m gonna rock!

  • TCar

I don’t really see any big difference. Nothing at least that would persuade me to get a PS4. Wii U looks just fine in my opinion!

    • Daniel Gonzalez

I can see that the PS4 version of the game looks much better. Yes, certainly not a huge jump since this is a multiplatform game and not an exclusive. Which is why comparisons like this in general are silly.

      • TCar

I don’t know about much better. To me, DVD vs BluRay shows true quality difference. Here it is a matter of small differences in shaders and textures. Like you said however, exclusive games may show a much larger difference. For me though, I just don’t care as much as someone else about the graphics, what I get with the Wii U is just perfect until Nintendo pushes them even further and I can see a major difference.

    • Keyser

They all looked different to me, but I wouldn’t say any one looks that much better. There’s such a small jump from PS3 to PS4, and with the Wii U somewhere in between, most games will look just fine, even if slightly downscaled as long as developers put in the effort.

      • Daniel Gonzalez

PS4 games will look far better than this in the long run. Besides, it’s a multiplat game, I wasn’t expecting this game to make the PS4 look better than the rest. Sure, Wii U will have some great looking titles that will past the PS3 in comparison, but PS4 and Xbox One games will pass them all easily.

Don’t take this as trolling or fanboyism, we all know it’s the truth. By 5 years, I’ll have all three consoles in my posession, because each one offers something unique and that’s what counts in the end.

        • Rinslowe

“PS4 games will look far better than this in the long run. Besides, it’s a multiplat game, I wasn’t expecting this game to make the PS4 look better than the rest. Sure, Wii U will have some great looking titles that will past the PS3 in comparison, but PS4 and Xbox One games will pass them all easily.”

Whether the truth or not, it really sounded like you were perpetuating your own comment…. πŸ˜›

“Well here we go again. May the console wars begin.”

You’re not a troll by any definition, but usually trolls I imagine, believe what they are saying to some degree. As truth.

          So long as PC exists….lol.
(that was taking the piss btw)

          • Daniel Gonzalez

You know that PS4 and Xbox One games will look a lot better than Wii U down the line. Let’s not fool ourselves here. I’m not saying that Wii U won’t have it’s breath taking games, but compared to its rivals, it’ll be behind.

“Well here we go again. May the console wars begin.”

That was said because I knew that people would start up on it and naturally, I would be here to be the middle ground guy. I just tell it like it is, despite how people will react to my comments.

I personally think you read too much into what I said, but I digress. Lol. If what I said makes me a troll, then I would say people are too quick to judge others. Not saying you are of course. πŸ™‚

I expect great games from all three consoles, and that what matters to me the most. It doesn’t mean I can’t say what the reality of the situation is. It’s not all about graphics to me, if the Wii U has some great third party exclusives later on, I would certainly be interested. πŸ˜›

          • Rinslowe

“You know that PS4 and Xbox One games will look a lot better than Wii U down the line. Let’s not fool ourselves here. I’m not saying that Wii U won’t have it’s breath taking games, but compared to its rivals, it’ll be behind.”

I don’t think either of us are fooled for a second. In the same way I’m personally not fooled about next gen reaching the same level of visuals many of us have been gaming for last 24 months. Even the original Crysis maxed out still looks (in pure visuals and performance) a lot better than the best of what has been shown on “next gen”. And I expect that PC will continue to pull ahead.
Which is precisely why I just don’t get the whole; this is going to be better than that, it’s the truth, at all…

I expect great games from all platforms also (specifically exclusives), but visuals isn’t exactly one of those reasons.
(Not to say they won’t all have pretty looking games, they absolutely will AND do…)

I also don’t care much for popularity and just called it how I saw it…

          • Marcus Larsson

Nba 2k14 sets the bar pretty high for ps4 if you are looking for the next gen graphics.
But i believe we are coming to an end soon in graphics cause of the time and money developers have to spend just to make a face realistic.
Its to much of a risk.

          • Rinslowe

True NBA 2K14 looks nice enough….

Nah mate, visuals have a long way to go yet.
And next gen consoles are only going to further PC visuals by setting the bar higher on the lowest denominator… (base platform).

Cost is a factor, but bet your bottom dollar that certain other companies will streak ahead regardless. Crytek for eg; will use their new found popularity in scalability to fund pushing the envelop higher on PC.

        • Majora’s Mask

you re paying 100 dollars less and with a better controller.Did you expect better graphics? also the wii u has a lot of power but we have only seen a glimse of it.AC4 is a better ps port than a wii u port

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Not to burst your bubble, but PS4 and Xbox One games will look stronger in comparison to Wii U no matter what really. I know that Wii U can push out better visuals, but it’ll be in between as developers said. I’m sure fans will be fine with that.

Plus, to be fair, $100 less doesn’t really mean anything. PS4 will sell a lot once there are better games after launch, even Xbox One I would expect the same.

Better controller? Well my friend, that one’s quite subjective and always will be. You’re entitled to believe what you feel is better. I won’t argue with you on that.

          • Majora’s Mask

i know the wii u wont look as good just saying dont expect from a 150$ machine to do as good as a 340$ one.(i removed controller costs)

        • Keyser

I agree they will look better, and its a fact that they are much more powerful, but how much better can they really look? There is definitely a lot that can be done on the Ps4/X1 that can’t be done on the Wii U, but (and I could be wrong) I really don’t think the difference in graphics from 1st party devs will be as huge as everyone thinks. Yes, AC4 is a multiplat, but take a game like Bayonetta 2 or Monolith’s new game. I haven’t yet seen a next gen game that looks better than those, but I guess we shall wait and see.

          • Rinslowe

” take a game like Bayonetta 2 or Monolith’s new game. I haven’t yet seen a next gen game that looks better than those”

I’m a total Ninty fan, but I couldn’t agree here. Both those titles look absolutely stunning! And “next gen” in there own right. But after the sheer amount of titles seen so far on PS4 and Xb1 – neither of those games are showing the same level of effects and fidelity of Infamous Second Son, Shadow Fall, Ryse or Forza…

All games look technically impressive for console, but not on the same level visually.

Personally though, I think X is going to be the best Japanese RPG of 2014…
Can’t wait to get stuck into that one, more-so than any other title coming…

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Are you saying that Killzone: Shadow Fall(I’m not a fan of that game) isn’t impressive? To me, that game beats out what I’ve seen from Bayonetta 2 and X. That’s just my opinion on it. The differences are there. How far will they go? I don’t know that answer and neither to developers probably just yet. We’ll find out in time of course.

          • Keyser

Yes, ok, that last part was a little…out there, but I stand by everything else I said.

All I’m saying is I don’t think I will ever be disappointed by the Wii U’s graphics. Ps4/X1 games may look better, but I don’t think the difference will be huge.

          • greengecko007

Lots of next gen games look better than Bayonetta 2 or Project X. Not to say that those games looks bad aesthetically by any means, but if you haven’t seen better then you haven’t been looking very hard.

    • Jared Garcia

I got it on Wii U and by far the best thing is the very consistent frame rate. There are very few places of dips and if there are dips, they’re very minor and not distracting. Only PC people would notice it as distracting.

    • Orange Lada

PS4 clearly looked better. Rain scene in particular.

But ….. I’m not sure it is $100 in price, no pack-in game ($50), annual online fee ($50) better. Well …. actually I am sure at the moment. Given the software out at this moment, Wii U is the system to purchase.

In a couple of years … maybe a PS4 to replace the PS3 and its library ….. maybe.

      • TCar

There is a difference in what we see between the Wii U and the PS4 but it isn’t a huge difference. Until these devs push each of the systems to their fullest, we won’t see a good comparison. Although I only support Nintendo for many reasons, the cost remains the first!

  • QuizmasterBos

It’s confirmed methinks. Wii U is definitely graphically stronger than the Xbox 360 and the PS3. PS4 is obviously the highest quality.

I think Nintendo will be fine graphics-wise.

    • Brett Butler

      It’s about the games.
I’ll take Zelda over Killzone or Gears of War, no question.

      That’s all.

      • DΓ‘ibhΓ wotshissurname

There is still no denying that the ps4 will be a good console, though.

        • Rinslowe

        • DragonSilths

Depends. We will see in time. As of right now with some of them breaking after 40 minutes I cant call that a good system.

          • darkcreap

Breaking? After 40 minutes? Is it a joke?

          • DragonSilths

No the system bricks and dies. Some are having HDMI issues. 1 of my friends had his die on him after 40 minutes ish. Another friend had his die after 3 hours so that’s better. My cousin’s died 15 minutes after the update…As for me I don’t have any plans on buying a PS4. Only will get one when Destiny comes out if its not on PC or Wii U.

          • darkcreap

Oh, my. I thought only Microsoft did that kind of thing. Sad to see Sony do that. Really sad.

EDIT: Maybe it is just a software problem, not a hardware problem.

          • DragonSilths

Well the Wii U had it’s freezing issue. Every system has problems at launch. Course I would take a freezing issue then a broken system lol. It was the update that made everything work on the PS4 that brought the issues.

          • darkcreap

Then probably it is just a software problem. I refuse to believe Sony would not be careful with the hardware.

          • DragonSilths

Its the Update. It causes the system to have a heart attack.

          • Alan Michael Hensley

I work at GameStop, and we had 2 customers return theirs because they got the yellow light, hey, at least Sony is consistent

          • Rinslowe

Nah according to Sony (in their defence they’re the only guys with solid figures), they said it was no more than 0.4% of all consoles out so far. Or that they only expect it to total 0.4% overall…
            Something like that…

One thing that is a little worrisome is in the possibility they expected it to begin with. Hopefully that was just damage control spiel only, lol…

          • darkcreap

Maybe they realised too late that that 0.4% would have problems.

If it is just 0.4%, then it is not too much. And, as @DragonSilths:disqus says above, it is likely a software-only issue. Nothing to worry about.

        • great deku tree

I’ll be getting a ps4 as well as my wii u. maybe also the xbox one when the price goes down (I like the new Kinect but the price is too high). guys all 3 consoles have their pros and cons but really it comes down to 1st party games in which case for me Nintendo come out top (or will do when Zelda u, Mario kart 8, smash bros. 4 etc etc come out)

      • fireheartis1

I love Zelda, but Kill Zone is an amazing game non the less. I’ve never played Gears of War so I can’t say anything about it lol.

        • Rinslowe

          Never played gears of war….

I don’t know why that comment surprised me? But it did, lol

      • Rich Garriques

not like kill zone gears and halo are anything different they are all shooting games. i dont see how people dont get tired of the same things. simple minded Americans , you just put a gun in their hand and they’ll wanna shoot anything.

    • Nintedward

That was never in doubt. The Wiiu has a more modern GPGPU wit DX10.1 equivalent graphics. This means when devs start to use it, the Wiiu can do things (lighting, shading etc) that the PS360 simply cannot. The Wiiu’s architecture is different to PS3 and 360, so a game built on PS3 and 360 will struggle to run on Wiiu unless optimization is done……
Wiiu games will have better lighting, richer textures and shadows, more reflections etc etc etc eventually than the ps3 and 360 could ever dream of.
Just look at some of the aspects of 3D worlds graphics and Mario kart 8’s. There is nothing like that on ps360.
On a simple scale of 1-10 if PS3 represents 1 and Ps4 represents 10, the Wiiu is roughly at about 3.5. The Wiiu is powerful enough for Nintendo to blow our minds with.

      • QuizmasterBos

Of course, I never doubted it either. I was just pointing out that this was the most solid evidence we’ve gotten about the Wii U’s power up to this point. I remember that for a pretty long time developers stated that the (graphical) power of the Wii U was less than the PS3’s.

Now, it’s been truly confirmed that the (graphical) power of the Wii U is indeed higher than anything of the last generation, leaving Nintendo well-equipped for the next few years.

        • Rinslowe

Anyone who believed Wii U was not more powerful than current gen were just fanboy asshles…

The devil is in the details and apart from Wii U’s more modern architecture, games like Kart, X, Bayo 2 etc… are all showing marked improvements in resolution, framerates, textures, lighting and other effects.
It may not be a generational leap forward but all those aspects combined show a decent step up. Especially considering those games above include every feature mentioned, whereas current gen consoles only ever achieved some of those things in tandem while having to sacrifice others area’s – either in resolution, texture detail, framerate or level design.

      • darkcreap

Why 3.5? PS4 GPU is said to have (roughly) 1.8 Tflops, Xbox one 1.3 and WiiU 0.35-0.36. That makes a ratio of approximately 5:1 from PS4 to WiiU. That is more or less a 2, rather than a 3.5.

Of course, I guess it is not only raw numbers that matter. For me, it is clear that PS4 is clearly better graphically wise. It should also be considered how much untapped potential there is still. I guess there is more for the PS4 than for the WiiU. The comparison is nonetheless difficult due to PS4/Xbox One having a more PC-like architecture, while the WiiU is a more traditional console, being probably more specialised than a PC architecture. As a disclaimre, I admit I am not an expert in Computer Science, so I am just speculating.

For me, as long as the graphics are acceptable to a certain point, I do not care too much. I mean, the rain effects and the water textures are much more noticeable on PS4, but, generally speaking, WiiU has some improvements and the quality difference is not too high that you cannot enjoy the game because of very gimped graphics, so, why care? Even the cutscenes seem OK (at least to me). Of course, there will always be more demanding users, but for me is enough. If the script is good, a little graphical detail is not gonna change anything.

EDIT: And even if the cutscenes are not that good, who cares. Some games are great for the gameplay value, not for trying to be movie-wannabes.

        • Rinslowe

“while the WiiU is a more traditional console”

I agreed with everything else you said. But in what way is Wii U a more traditional console? By far, according to it’s unique architecture I would have thought most tech dudes would agree, Wii U being the most highly customised of the three latest systems…
But don’t get me wrong, that does not imply in any way “as powerful as” next gen. Hardly, power wise…

But it is certainly not a traditional job IMO…

          • darkcreap

I mean traditional because traditionally consoles have a more custom architecture instead of trying to resemble a PC, like PS4 and XboxOne seem to do. In that sense, I see PS4 and XboxOne less traditional because they went the x86_64 route.

According to my little knowledge, consoles traditionally have been a more specialised hardware than PC to get reasonable results with weaker hardware to keep them low price but not too underpowered in comparison. That is what I mean by traditional. WiiU seems to stick to this philosophy, while PS4/XboxOne seem to have abandoned that route.

That is why I say that the comparison is maybe not straighforward with raw numbers. WiiU is theoretically less powerful, but is much more customised, so real performance maybe is a bit better than what raw numbers may imply.

          • Rinslowe

Ok, now I’m with ya. Lol.

            Through the looking glass, haha.

            Agree 100%

        • Nintedward

wiiu being 0.35-0.36 is only speculation. Digital foundry admited that they could not work out what 30% of the Wiiu’s GPU was.
The Wiiu is almost certainly more powerfull than that not to mention it has 32MB of very fast edram.

Also the CPU in the PS4 really isn’t that great.

      • Rinslowe

Have you been following this thread? Rather interesting…

Note: I don’t agree with the OP, it’s the more interesting stuff that comes along later…

        • Nintedward

That got debunked by Shin’en. The Wiiu’s GPU was never downgraded, it did infact get upgraded.

          • Rinslowe

Actually as I mentioned it wasn’t the OP that was interesting. I agree the original story was debunked early on. It’s the stuff that came out later….

Evolving the Gamecube/ Wii TEV unit being the most interesting as it allowed in those consoles many effects basically for free in fixed function. And could explain, why many Wii U games share similar lighting all round. (very impressive – similar lighting at that).

Of course the regular dudes have tried to put that one down as usual, but not one of those peeps have provided a believable reason why, Nintendo could not have evolved a piece of tech that served them so well in the past – as a singular company…
Just look at Rogue Leader (ahead of it’s time and still pushing a ton of polygons and effects by today’s standards) which fully utlised this unit.
Then there is the near 30% of GPU real estate that is still to today unexplained, even though extremely high res die shots have been available for nearly twelve months…
My bet is on that TEV unit having been included.

Wii U is a very humble console, with very modest specs. It excels in power usage, form factor and silent operation. But it uses a very customised CPU which although not exotic requires some special attention. Plus a GPU that is a few generations ahead of current gen but no-where near “next”.
So games like Bayo 2 (refer specifically to the gomorrah boss battle) and X both pulling insane amounts of detailed textures, character polygons, effects and geometry that shouldn’t be possible simply by standard means…

Of course this is just maybe because after 12 months looking at the same pic we’re still fumbling around in the dark, on this consoles innards…

          • darkcreap

I am not an expert in computer science here, but, having such a low consumption and low heat emission, wouldn’t it be hard to believe that a little upgrade would have led to significant overheating?

yep and i think itll be comfirmable the xb1 will sit in etween wiiu and ps4

  • Daniel Gonzalez

Well here we go again. May the console wars begin.

    • Magnus Eriksson

Yeah, the hate, and unreasonableness will peak yet again among the fanboys on the internet.

      • Daniel Gonzalez

Yeah, unfortunately. Though, I can’t say I don’t like the crazy arguments. I’m good with debating with mature gamers on here and more fun to just tease those who can’t handle what others have to say. It’s the way of the internet. πŸ˜›

        • Magnus Eriksson

          I relate πŸ˜€

  • steve

you notice the graphics alot more when u view it on an actual ps4.

    • Entropyguy

Yeah, having seen both in person, YouTube doesn’t really show off the PS4/X1 to its full advantage.

      • steve

exactly, i wasnt really that into the battle field 4 graphics on ps4 when i watch on youtube but when my bro got it i was amazed at how “next gen” it looks

  • Kay Wrobel

PS4 has more detailed shadows compared to Wii U, but the rest looks virtually identical. The biggest difference I see is between PS3 and PS4 with PS3 missing quite a few details, like that bird flying through the air when the camera showing Kenway on top the tower. Things like that, and much less rain in PS3. Wii U vs 360 shows better textures on Wii U. As the article states, the U is clearly in between PS360 and PS4. I could live with that.

    • kevin nun—-

The water details in PS4 are far greater than Wii U, unfortunately. Wii U’s water detail is close to the 360. I am talking about the last synchronization shots at around 1:37, when you compare them, you see that its not as great as people make it be.

EDIT: Oh and at 2:24, the shadows and detail the PS4 has, as small as it may look, make a huge difference. I think if the Wii U had been worked on a bit more, it would look more similar to PS4.

      • Rinslowe

PS4’s effects are quite a step forward than either three consoles shown… TBH.
Resolution and texture detail are a noticeable step up. Reflections are prominent on just about every surface. Lighting is improved. And of course like you said, the water effect is more dynamic, detailed and shows a greater level of depth overall.

Wii U is in a tight second place, slightly sharper detail than 360 with better alpha effects. But ultimately it’s close.
PS3 is by far the worst performer in visuals looking blurred and out of focus (strange even though Ubisoft use their own in house solution to AA for both 360 & PS3 equally), but framerate looked about on par with the others. While PS3 again looks worse on background textures….

      • ShilaquilOneal

Yeah, the details prove once and for all that the Wii U is a step or two above the current gen consoles.

Its unfortunate that in typical fashion, almost no Wii U owner will actually buy the Wii U version of the game. So this could very well be the last one we get.

        • fireheartis1

You’re being ridiculous on this one. AC4 had pretty good sells on the Wii U. I plan on getting this game this week actually. I just had to wait till payday to get it. The game looks amazingly fun and with great graphics on the Wii U. Look up sells charts before you talk your crap next time please.

          • Rocky

calm down little boy. its only a game.

          • ShilaquilOneal

AC4 has sold less than 40k on the Wii U. Compared to more than 600k units on each of the other consoles. So who’s talking crap here? Not me.

Apparently, the majority of Wii U owners like to talk long and hard about how Wii U games look. They just don’t wanna buy them.

            The numbers speak for themselves.

I wonder…. if this game was given away to Wii U owners FOR FREE, would they even be interested in getting this game if that was the case? Because I sense a strong lack of interest. Sales numbers are just too low.

          • Sydney Ultrasyd

It’s true that I often see things like “I’ll wait for the day when it cost 19€, like usual with Ubisoft” πŸ™

          • Damian Waga

So a game on consoles with over 70 million units sells more than the console with a user base of about 4 million? Impossible!

          • ShilaquilOneal

The fact that the Wii U version sold just 40k on a console with 4 million users is what I was actually pointing out.

Lets see you try counter-arguing that factoid.

          • adslife80

lets see 40,000 of 4 million possible = 1% of wii u owners bought it
            600,000 of 80 million = 0.75% of ps3 owners bought it.
so yes obviously ps3 and x360 sold more but as a percentage its pretty equal for each console give or take.

          • ShilaquilOneal

But you keep dragging the ps3 AND 360 into the picture. I dunno why since the game did not bomb on those consoles.

It did bomb on the Wii U.

And that was where the focus of my comments were fully placed on. On how it fared on the Wii U.

          • adslife80

yes and ive argued why it didnt bomb as u say. it sold to a higher percentage of wii u owners than ps3 owners. thats NOT bombing and i highly doubt ubisoft were expecting 600,000 wii u sales right way. thats the only reason other consoles are brought into it because its relevant to the discusion. In your theory then 600,000 of 80 million must be bombing too as 79.4 million people DIDNT buy it on ps3. im only going by your own logic and arguement.

          • Damian Waga

            You’re missing the point.
You expect a game to sell more on a console with less people than a console with more? Is the PS4 version a failure because more people bought the PS3 one?

It’s a failure when the game fails to meet sales targets. If the sales targets for the Wii U version is a higher percentage than other consoles, then the companies expectations are absurd.

Considering that most Wii U owners are multi-console users (I myself have a PS3 and PC), the sales are actually good.

          • Rich Garriques

i don’t understand the idiocy in these comments from people like this wii u has only been out for a year. there is absolutely no sense in comparing them to 8 year old consoles. its just plain stupid and kiddie.

          • ShilaquilOneal

What is stupid and kiddie is to bury your head in the sand and ignore the FACT that for a console with 4 million users, a AAA 3rd party games sells a measly 40k on it.

The Gamecube had several million selling games in its first year on the market and with a similar user base in terms of size.

          • Denis Ganic

I think you’re the one talking crap. AC4 for Wii U hasn’t even been released in Australia yet and I’m pretty sure some other country’s too. Also the ps3 and xbox versions have been out for a while now so comparing sales with the Wii U is quite stupid when most of people who own a PS3 or xbox have already played it, so they wouldn’t buy the same game even if they did own a Wii U cause what is the point. Furthermore the sales will never come close to sales on the other consoles cause it’s a late release to the Wii U. I don’t see you points at all sorry

          • Denis Ganic

I don’t even own a Wii U but I’m going to get one over a ps4 or xbox one because who wants 10 FPS games and crappy 7 hour length games when you can have 1-2 FPS, a platformer, quality fighters, quality puzzle games, zelda and the real factor “fun”. The replay value on nintendo games is amazing I’m sick of so many guns games, I need more options and PS4 and Xbox one doesn’t deliver.

        • Rinslowe

          • ShilaquilOneal

            Facts say otherwise.

          • Relick

40k on wii u, 600k on other consoles.
4 million wii us sold, 70 million other consoles.
            That’s 1 in 100 wii u owners, 1 in 116 other console owners.

Tell me more about how wii u owners aren’t buying games, considering AC4 did relatively better on the WiiU according to your statistics?

          • Rich Garriques

your clearly not a wii u supporter so why are you on this site commenting? , go kiss sony and microsofts ass will you. since you care so much about sales. did it ever occur to your idiotic brain that 90% of the people that have wii u already have ps3 and 360. what are you not getting or are you just trying to be smart by proving the already obvious?

          • ShilaquilOneal

All that I’m saying is that Wii U owners do not buy games. And if they do, they buy them second hand or not in the numbers that people did on the Gamecube or even on the N64.

          • adslife80

umm ur wrong i own 10 wii u games , but of course wii u owners dont buy games. so what are you saying, they instead like to buy consoles without games!? one arguement i ould like to add is that nintendo games offer a long game play life

          • ShilaquilOneal

I am saying that Wii U owners don’t buy games in great numbers.

Its ridiculous that only 2 games from its library have sold a million copies (one of those games was bundled with the console, so its actually just one game that reached that mark). Ridiculous because there are at least 4 million users who own the console. What the heck are they doing with it?

From what I’m reading here, most Wii U owners avoid 3rd party games because they feel that they’re ‘late ports’ or not as polished as on other consoles. And they mostly play what Nintendo produces. Well, that sure won’t help the Wii U become a thriving game console. Not when its user base is so finicky like that.

          • Relick

What? Did you reply to the wrong person?

          • ShilaquilOneal

            I’ll tell you more.

            AC4 BOMBED ON THE WiiU

The Gamecube only had less than 5 million users in 2002 (that’s only a year after it was released). And yet it had SEVERAL million selling games on it by that time.

So please explain how a console with a similar user base (in terms of its size) cannot produce more than 2 titles that have sold at least, AT LEAST a million units. Consider that one of the Wii U’s million selling games was BUNDLED with it.

            Explain away, WHITE KNIGHT.

          • Relick

I’ll calm down if you calm down, debates are easier that way.

The GameCube’s million selling games were all first party big hitters like smash bros, zelda, luigi’s mansion, mario sunshine and animal crossing.

So far, in this category for the Wii U, we’ve had… a re-release in HD.

I simply don’t understand how you can expect a console from a company that traditionally has 3rd party games bomb on its systems to have million selling games when no big hitting first party games have been released yet.

I said a year ago, and I’ll say it once again now, I’m waiting till next January to decide on whether the Wii U will fail or not. Besides, at the moment I wouldn’t be surprised if it only did as well as the GameCube, that would be my current prediction.

I’m cool with that. I’m not bothered with the Wii U selling badly, because it’s a fun console and I’ll play fun games on it.

          • ShilaquilOneal

But there were a lot of 3rd party games that had great sales numbers during the Cube’s first year on the market.

Rogue Squadron sold over 800k units & Resident Evil 1 sold over 700k during that time frame. They both eventually sold well over a million units. Including Resident Evil Zero and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle.

So I dunno where you get the idea that 3rd party games bomb on Nintendo consoles. Unless you’re talking about Wii U games.

          • adslife80

u are not making sense. the arguement is about assassins creed 4 sales. on wii u it sold to a similar percentage as to other consoles. facts do not lie regardless of you spinning it and banging on about gamecube sales. thats a totally different arguement. again facts dont lie and 1 % of wi u owners bought ac4 and only 0.75% of ps3 owners bought it

      • Rich Garriques

what i don’t get is why people keep trying to compare 360 to wii u , they are not comparable on any level if the details in the game look a little similar to each other then that is the devs fault they made a poor wii u game that was ported from 360. this does not mean in anyway that 360 is remotely as powerful or even close to wii u. people need to get that thought through their head just because they both have tri core processors DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE THE SAME. one is more powerful then thee other

    • Rocky

i want the WII U to be as strong as ps4…but GPU is weaker, and the CPU is slower, step it up nintendo. you lost so many people respect. how you gonna compete against the STEAM MACHINE next year with PS4 and XBONE walking over you.

      • great deku tree

well if you think of how power efficient the wii u is it’s actually quite impressive it’s as powerful as it is. I mean these are port games so the wii u will have better graphics on its own games. also the power efficiency means that the wii u can be played in cars using a car adapter (I love this feature since I travel lots so I can play wind waker in the car). also if you take into consideration the size of the wii u again to have these good graphics is impressive. I can play games either on trains, coaches or cars and the wii u doesn’t look out of place since it’s not huge like other consoles. for me it’s fine having slightly worse graphics to be able to play my favourite Nintendo games on the go. xbox one fans can’t say they’ll be enjoying ryse son of rome on the go. and for ps4 you’ll need another Β£200 to do the same feature with the ps vita

        • Rocky

If traveling I wanna bring my psp or 3ds not my Wii u. But you do make a good point.

    • val berger

by the way, PS4 version gets a day1-update, adding 1080p and advanced anti aliasing. not a game changer either, but quite neat.

    • great deku tree

well really there’s more detail in faces when zoomed in. the rope on the ship looks a lot better on ps4, water detail and water spray is better. in fact when the camera moves slowly you can see ps4 is better in almost every aspect but it is a small difference and won’t be noticed the majority of the time due to the speed of the camera in the game.

    • Magnus Eriksson

Remember when Batman Armor ed. came out on WiiU. Back then media reported it looked worse on WiiU than on PS3? I also remember peoples reactions here. Its so strange that fanboys seems rather become liars than say something that might be against their console of choice. In Batman the PS3 version looked better than Wii U, but not much. In ACIV the Wii U version looks better, but not much. The PS4 version clearly looks better, but its not a revolutionary jump. On the other hand, remember that ACIII looked identical on Wii U, PS3 and 360 while Batman looked worse on Wii U. Remember what everyone said back then?

      • Nintedward

Batman Arkhum city looks best on Wiiu. Utilizing FXAA it has the sharpest look and best image quality.

The framerate is a little inconsistent but for the most it’s fine.

        • Magnus Eriksson

Im just referring to the reports in media back then. I didnt play Batman myself, so cant say anything about my subjective view. But it was reported as looking worse (I looked at some comparisons now, and honestly I cant tell the difference. Batmans suit looks worse in WiiU version, but thats aestethical and style not a graphical issue).

  • Kevin Malone

It has never been about graphics for me, oddly enough. I got a Wii U because it has my Marios and Zeldas, along with some other titles I am interested in like (the upcoming) Bayonetta 2. And I will be getting a PS4 because it will have Final Fantasy XV, Metal Gear Solid 5, and other titles I am interested in. Also, when I add a PS4 beside my Wii U, I will still be getting “old” games I discover because, though I love gaming, I have not gotten many games, or had the time to play the ones I want (even some of my favorites, like Final Fantasy X and Metal Gear Solid 3, I never got around to playing until a year after I bought them). Along those lines, with all this talk about the next gens with their launch titles, I just bought Kirby’s Epic Yarn for Wii, and The Walking Dead (by TellTale) for PS3.

    • Seth S. Scott

Epic Yarn is so good. I absolutely loved that game and its a joy to play. I 100%’d it! πŸ™‚

  • Nathan Verbois

The real amazing part of that video is how good the single-player looks on every system, which is a testament to how much they’ve improved their engine over the years.

I tested the multiplayer on the PS3 a couple months ago and it looked nice, but nowhere near as good as single player. I wonder how pretty the multiplayer on Wii U and PS4 looks?

  • Andrew W Garttmeyer

meh, the ‘cartoonish’ games usually catch my eye the most, and they can be done well without all that horsepower.

  • Entropyguy

So…the PS4 clearly looks the best, but the Wii U looks pretty good too. Certainly, this isn’t the game that people will buy the PS4/XO specifically for.

  • i have the game on wii u and runs just great.

something that i dont like for all platforms is the water effect when he is swimming

  • Sdudyoy

Really, comparing non exclusives never make much of a difference graphics wise (Although performance changes sometimes), I can see some slight upgrades in the PS4 version but not enough for me to buy the PS4 version over the Wii U version, Sure if I was planning on getting a PS4 then it might be another story, but really if It’s graphics that you want than you better look for First party/Exclusive’s, personally I think It’s about gameplay than Graphics.

    • Fred

      I agree wholeheartedly

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Exactly. Differences are noticeable, but not enough. That’s why I never get multiplat comparisons. Exclusives will always shine more.

  • Chronic Gang

Guys i know this is off topic but sonic lost world now has a demo for north america

    • Fred

Wow thanks for the tip I had no idea!

    • Javier Smith

What? Really?! Awesome, I’m going to d/l right now!

  • Rinslowe

Best version is easily PS4, followed by Wii U (slightly better textures and alpha effects than current gen but almost a carbon copy of Xbox), 360 then PS3 being the muddiest version.

No doubt XB1 will sit between PS4 – Wii U when it’s included.

All things considered, another very decent port for Wii U joining Arkaham Origins and Deus Ex for a trifecta of sorts in third party titles…
It’s obvious even with the extra effects going for PS4 and higher resolution, it’s the exact same game across all platforms and a win for everyone…

  • Fred

I think the Wii U is good enough visually for me (I understant the Xbone and PS4 are better but to me it’s close enough) and I’m more of the fan of the games on the Wii U than I am of the games on PS4/XBONE so I’m not sure if I’ll ever get one of the others
Last Gen I had a Wii and a PS3 and I played the Wii a lot more even though it had much worse graphics (not even close) because I found the games more fun. I mean yea I bought NCAA football NBA Jam and NBA 2K on the PS3 over the Wii, but that’s about all I really played on my PS3 I played tons of games on the Wii. Now I’ve already bought NBA 2K13 and Madden 13 on my Wii U and even though I’m sure NBA 2K14 and Madden 25 on PS4 is better that’s not enough for me to justify buying another console when I know there won’t be many more games I’d get on either of those consoles where I already have quite a few Wii U games that I love (Most recently Wind Waker and Mario and Sonic)

    • Javier Smith

I had the exact same experience. I mainly played the Wii because I’m a huge Nintendo fan, and also played a few experimental third party games on the system. I got a PS3 mainly for MGS4 (but would have gladly bought an “inferior” version on Wii) and Ratchet & Clank, and a handful of other games.

I’m on the fence about PS4. I’ll probably get one eventually for Battlefront and Kingdom Hearts, but besides that, I don’t see anything yet that makes it a system-seller for me. I’ll play MGS5 on my PS3 and am enjoying the Wii U right now.

  • Googs

I have to say, for being the weakest next gen console, the Wii U is holding up just fine. The differences between 360/PS3 and Wii U are quite noticeable, which is a good thing πŸ™‚

  • Javier Smith

Honestly, graphics won’t matter for a while. PS3 and Xbox 360 are such massive markets that most third parties would be foolish to ignore them. As long as Nintendo can increase their user base (which seems inevitable considering their upcoming releases) they won’t be dragged down like the Wii was.

The only hang-ups are games which require a lot of particles or characters onscreen at once, (which require more RAM) or games that require DirectX11, which is the purported reason for Kingdom Hearts skipping Ninty’s console. But then again, even that’s a little shady because Wii U’s OpenGL has been said to be nearly equivalent to DX11.

Bottom line, as long as Nintendo gets their numbers up, they’ll be fine. Quality first-party games will make up for whatever third parties don’t get onboard. I see this generation being more similar to the Gamecube gen for Nintendo than Wii.

  • CaesarGood

what’s the difference, aint no difference. it just looks like u playing on different tvs, so what, why do we even care??

  • IcyCatt

The only difference I really saw was some shadows between Wii U and PS4, but I won’t deny a few more details on PS4. And that’s ok.

  • Green

WiiU version looks Better then both the PS360, but PS4 obviosuly looking the best, and have the highest view distance it seems.

  • Simon Stevens

Playstation 4 is obviously the winner but if this is the difference, I don’t think it matters that much, certainly not enough to make me want to go out and buy one for a good year or so, for the price, I’ll stick with the Wii U πŸ™‚ that and the Vita tv I just imported.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

You’re better off waiting for the exclusives.

      • Simon Stevens

Yeah, I’m sure there’ll be a few but the killer for me as was with the Vita was Uncharted, obviously a game as unique as gravity rush helped too, I wonder if we’ll ever see Cat make it to the big screen, I bet she’d look good in that detail

  • jjbredesen

    Great comparison.

The Wii U doesent really look that bad at all.

    My graphics list is this:

    Xbox 360

    Wii U

I think we can all agree on that. There is really no argument against it. The list is based on pure console specs, so this is as correct as it gets.

It is not an opinion, but a fact.

(PC can be anywhere, depends on the PC :P, but i guess it could go on the top.)

    • Nothing5555

Remember we won’t have good comparisons in graphic until 3-5 years of the consoles life cycle. Just compare the early PS3/Xbox360 games to the ones they are releasing now.

      • Remember that the XB1 and PS4 are using PC parts so the development of these games utilizing that architecture has been around for a long time. So while your statement may be true I do not expect any significant increase in graphical power with except maybe 1st party exclusives.

  • Antonio Jose de Sousa

The PS4 has clearly the best graphics of all 4 versions. I didn’t see much difference between PS4 and WiiU version though. Aside from better shaders and lighting in the PS4, both versions look almost identical. The worst version is the PS3 by far. Low-res textures, the lighting is terrible, shaders are barely visible. Really bad port compared to the Xbox 360 version. I don’t know if Ubisoft did it on purpose, to trick people into think that PS4 is away better than the old generation or they really didn’t care much about the PS3 version of the game. Anyways, I’m happy to see that they actually did I good version of the game for the Wii U. And I’m definitily buying it this holidays. ^_^

  • Levi Johansen

    PS4 > Wii U > XBox360 > PS3

The assassins creed engine runs the same on all, it is last-gen after all.

It is all about RAM. Less RAM = lower resolution textures.

The PS4 has more rain/particle effects and shadows, not different effects, just more of them, because it can handle more with its powerful CPU.

This engine doesn’t let the PS4 and Wii U show anything new, just more of the same.

A true test of Next-Gen consoles will be with the new engines like Disrupt, used in Watch Dogs. Then we will see what the new consoles are adding and the old ones are unable to produce.

    • NkoSekirei

heres a thing these devs tend to be lazy and wont tap the wii u full potential which many of us want to see and maybe X will show them wat the wii u can really do at full power

      • Rinslowe

      • Levi Johansen

I agree. Many 3rd party ports were not optimized fully and shows signs of laziness.

I don’t think this is the case for AC4 though, this game runs on an old and faulty game engine built for bottleneck-consoles, I am sure Ubisoft did their best to optimize this game for the Wii U.

Regardless, I’m getting this game tomorrow as well as Rayman Legends and Black List πŸ˜€

    • Nothing5555

      Let me correct that:
      $$$ Gaming PC > PS4 > WiiU >XBox360> PS3 > low budget PC

  • tronic307

Measured by graphics alone PS4>Wii U>360>PS3, on this game at least. Where was the rain on PS3?

    • Rinslowe

“Where was the rain on PS3?”

      PS4 wasn’t in the mood for sharing…

I’d say the difference between Wii U and PS4 graphics is more a hop than a jump. Yes I know the PS4 hardware is just getting into it’s stride, but so is the Wii U.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Despite that, PS4’s stride will be larger than Wii U’s. It’s easy to see that Wii U won’t be able to match the PS4 and Xbox One visually. It doesn’t take away from the Wii U as it will have impressive games that will still entice gamers.

  • Justagamer

Looks good for me and like i said before graphics don’t mean everything but on a side note got the PS4 and it is really cool and no problems so far

  • tlopuse

I don’t care about graphics or horsepower, I care about fun and Nintendo give me whatever I need. Like I said in my last comment I use my Wii U more than my PS3. Be wise and don’t be a video game racist. Hahaha, Nintendo’s sponsor since ’85.

  • jrob23

I was never a fan of these games. The fighting is so weak and it never really has anything new to offer. It looks pretty though

  • Quicksilver88

First off Ubi did a really fine job on WiiU version of AC4. I have been playing it a few weeks and noticed immediately ot was bette than ps3 which I had rented. Now that Ubi has really gotten to grips with WiIU it will be a shame if they bail now. Thankfully we should still be getting WatchDogs and Child of Light is also announced. Rayman has not sold well overall but did sell best on WiiU so Ubi can’t blame that on us. The key is WiiU can provide competent multiplats if a team takes the time to utilize the hardware. Next point….execs at sony and ms have been saying they have been worried that next gen grafx are not going to wow people like the jumps in previous generations. Fanboys and trolls have been shouting oh ps4/xb1 will wipe the floor with WiiU when that won’t be true. 1st party or other exclusives are always going to look best because the teams give full attention to one system and often have access to ‘secret’ tools or knowledge. Look at every Nintendo system since the SNES and Nintendo and their direct partners (like monolith, platinum, or rare) stuff looks super while 3rd party is meh. Same on Sony as their stuff, and teams like square or konami that did exclusives looked a much better. So WiiU will be fine, I mean look how good Galaxy, Zeldas,Xenogears,MK,SSB looked on Wii and you doubt Nintendo will turn out incredible looking games on WiiU? I almost went out for ps4 last night and then thought why rush…..I like Sony but I have so many great WiiU games to play and ps4 won’t hit its stride until Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Quantic Dream, and Insomniac start churning out exclusives…till then ps360, WiiU, and my beefy PC will keep me busy.

  • Logic

Technologically speaking, the PS4 has better graphics. However, in the eyes of an average consumer, there isn’t a huge noticeable difference between the Wii U, PS3 and PS4 version of this game (while playing of course). Compare Battlefield 4 on the PS4 and PS3, thats where the PS4 shows off its true horsepower. Nonetheless, I’m not concerned about the graphics. Wii U Zelda and the next elder scrolls title for the PS4 are my most anticipated games for both consoles.

    • Rinslowe

      Well said…
      Elder Scrolls on PC though…

Could you add X in there as well?

  • AVL

I think Wii U games are not developed to use the real power of the console, I see third party games as a poor port from PS3 or 360 just to have the game on nintendo’s console.

  • PS4/WiiU

I find PS4 to have slightly better graphics than wii u.
    1st: PS4
    2nd: Wii U
    3rd: Xbox 360 and PS3

  • darkcreap

Well, as it was expected, WiiU looks a bit better than PS3 and XBox360. PS4 looks noticeably better on PS4, because we all know it’s more powerful, but not to a point that it is too low.

It highly depends on how much you are worried about graphic details. For me, it looks good enough.

  • M. Scott

Man, imagine how good the wii u would look if they gave a shit! PS4 likely got a ton of dev time while the wii u likely got none.

If they gave a damn, I wonder if they would have been equal

    suck on that bitches

  • fireheartis1

What I find strange is how the PS4 has the exact same facial expressions as the other consoles. I figured with the PS4 being more powerful they would be able to fix that problem really. I guess it will just take time for Wii U and PS4 to get better on that.

    • iamserious

It’s a port. However, the faces in Killzone are just as bad so idk.

      • Rinslowe

To be fair, Killzone has never had decent in game “faces”…

    • Rinslowe

All these things come down to how much effort does a studio put into any given game, on any given platform.
PS4 has the potential for really nicely rendered faces, lol But obviously Ubisoft didn’t see that as a priority for this title and PS4…

To me the Wii U version is the best due to the mini map on the gamepad.

  • iamserious

The PS4 version looks much nicer than all of the other consoles. Wii U looks slightly better than the 360 which looks ever so slightly better than PS3.

  • Angelo G

Obviousely the ps4 graphics are better than the wii u, but I dont think that it is such a huge difference. If people are willing to pay more they will get the better graphics (just like pc).I think that this shows that the wii u can handle next gen games at a lower price. Ps4=$400 with no games, wiiu $300 with $60 game included. At the end I think for average people the wii u will be the best choice. A hardcore gamer like me and most people reading this will probably buy both systems anyway and maybe also xbone.

  • Kholby

I don’t care about graphics at all. I mostly like retro style anyway.

  • verymetal

All this talk about graphics doesn’t mean a thing at all. I thought the Wii put this argument to rest? I have been saying this for the longest time, it boils down to one thing and one thing only…if the game is great it is going to sell and move consoles, no matter what it looks like. Did people get Wii sports or Mario Kart for the graphics? I watched this comparison video and the Wii U is going to be just fine when it comes to graphics, what it needs is a kick in the ass, so original AAA games start coming out.

  • Jayce

Only disappointing comparison was the face close up at 2:21. I think the Wii U could have done better there, but overall I’m quite happy with the graphics! Hopefully more multi platform games will follow suit πŸ™‚

  • WarioForever

Between PS4 and Wii U, it’s almost identical.

  • Sydney Ultrasyd

The graphics for Wii U are indeed in-between current-gen and PS4. But I’m wondering about the frame rate during the game … A friend of mines, who works at Ubisoft on ACIV, told me that I shouldn’t excpect too much of the Wii U version, because it’s developed separatly, and that no one actually cares about the Wii U :'(

  • yousef

i just bought ps4 yasterday and i am playing battlefilled 4 on it the game look so good and ou can play up to 65 player online thats just crazy and the improved the online play on it as well but you have to pay for it but the give you one mounth free now i also have wii u and xbox360 the wii u games look as good as ps3 the ps4 grafex its just amazing and the detial on the game is so great but ps4 still dont have much games to play yet so idont of u guys should buy it now or not

  • yousef

yea the wii u sales is low and thats kinde of sucks but thats all nintendo fault they never seems to learn fromm their mastakes when nintendo lunch the didnt have much games to buy and wii u price was just too expnisve considering the power of consle is like have xbox or ps3 which they were lunch back in 2006 in top of all that my wii u framware took me about 4 huors to upgade

  • yousef

QuizmasterBos no idont wii u is stronger than ps3 unfortunately. ithink its as agood as ps3 maybe a lttle less

  • Jan

The Gamecube was the most powerful console of its generation and failed quite hard…as someone said “it’s all about games”.

  • elton john

  • Petri

It would be actually pathetic if PS4 couldn’t make a difference with PS3 or Wii U on graphics.
But PC and Wii U might be enough for me this gen.
Might wait and see year or two, if PS4 gets anything remotely interesting.
If not, most likely invest some more on my PC.

  • IvΓ‘n Enrique Garcerant Tafur

IMHO: These videos show so much similar are the versions, not which is the most advanced. If you’ll need a Master Degree in Computer Sciences to spot on relevant differences, then I will be very happy with the Wii U version.

  • HotInEER

PS4 looks very nice and the Wii U does also, however the PS4 is clearly better, however is this a limitation of the WIi U hardware, or is it simply the fact they chose to not take full advantage of everything the Wii U can offer.

  • MHeinz

i honestly think that third parties can get the wii u looking a lot closer to the ps4 than the ps360 versions. I think that since they have that stupid idea of “oh the wii u is on par with the ps360 so we’ll just port their version to wii u,” they lack the effort to attempt putting next gen graphics on the wii u. If u think about it, the wii u’s graphical capablilities out class the ps360’s by a lot, yet, in this comparisson, the graphics of the wii u and the ps360 are virtually the same.

  • InterTreble

The demostration came at last: games on Wii U and next gen will look the same. Where have the 8 core disappeared? Where are the 8 giga of RAM? At now, and not only at now, the difference of the hardware will count the 1% for the software. It’s 2013, boys, not still the ’90ties… This is the demostration. You said it’s a cross gen title? Perfect… How long will we have cross gen titles? Two year? Three years? EA said cross gen title will be supported at least until 2017… And until then, the difference between Wii U and next gen will be this one: zero.

  • In overall perspective as I see it Wiiu is more close to PS360 then to PS4, some parts are virtually identical to PS4, but in most situations there is a pretty big difference between WiiU and PS4, I agree it’s more in between PS360 and PS4, but unfortunately it’s quite a bit closer to PS360 then to PS4, the biggest difference I noticed was definitely in the weather effects, a lot harder and more rain in PS4 then on WiiU, while on PS360 there is no rain at all.

But the ships Deck during this heavy rain on PS4 (the water flowing over the deck and the effects+details) are far greater then on WiiU, as I see it The WiiU’s deck seems to be completely dry while the PS4’s is flooded. On this video assuming IGN isn’t mistreating WiiU on purpose as they did before, I can only say the PS4 is the superior version in pretty much every aspect.

Nonetheless it bothers me little as I plan on getting a WiiU at last next month just before the holidays, this title is one I will get my hands on for the WiiU.

  • Dave May

oh god, if theres not a substancial difference we can see plain as day then theres no point in doing a comparison video, all versions are within reason the same, and to those that bought a ps4, im sorry you got played.

    sent from wiiu gamepad

    • Decker Shado

To be fair, there are graphical benefits to the PS4 version, however minor they may be, and at least it came out near enough to the 360/PS3/Wii U versions that they’re all $60 right now.

If it came out 6-12 months late, was not optimized in the slightest (no improved graphics, and reliant on heavy processing.. with the PS4’s weaker per-core processer) so it ran like crap on PS4… and it was decided there’d be no DLC.. and major game features were removed on top of it all… Then we’d be even.

  • Ismael Ototo

Well, if you put little attention, you notice almost no difference. But it’s the little details that make the PS4 version so much better than the Wii U version. And that’s coming from a big Wii U supporter; I love Wii U but the shadows, the details in the sea, the reflects of the rain on the floor, the light bouncing during the storm… That makes the PS4 version look beautiful! Though I think if the Wii U version was put a bit more effort on, almost the same results could be achieved. I hope they make it happen.

  • Rob

I think the major problem with the Wii U and the argument on graphics when it comes to optimizing the hardware is that Nintendo will be the ones to optimize the hardware and push it graphically however their first party titles are all cartoonish and it makes it difficult to come up with a real comparison of what the graphics will look like on wiiu just my 2 cents i have a wiiu and barely play it and i don’t plan on getting xbone or ps4 because i believe pc gamming can look better than any console.

  • Enigma

Ubisoft basically ported the PS3/360 game over to the next-gen. Not a good comparison.

    Look at Killzone.

  • Fweds

Looking at just how little difference the PS4 version is, the poor reviews the PS4 games got and with i’s current hardware issues it seems a bit crazy to even think about changing over to the PS4

  • devmiles

the graphics on the wii-u are not so much the issue but the slowdowns are during gameplay..lots of wii-u games have this…sucks balls looking at the hardware

  • devmiles

ps4 is very sharp and has a good lighting too, more closer to the pc version i guess in ultra graphics mode. by far ps4 is the sharpest but indeed the comparison is not fair since the game was not designed for ps4 it’s more like a polished port.

  • Christopher Westcott

Honestly, to the native untrained eye, these differences are so minuscule. I can’t believe we are actually arguing over any of the differences… It shows that gameplay is still greater than graphics.

  • Rodger Jamjet

makes me even more happier I got a wii u. The ps4 doesn’t look at that much better. Makes me laugh actually

  • Sultan 7

I have been playing games a long time. STILL have ALL of my original nintendo home consoles from NES to WII U and still play them all. I have owned a vertex, tandy 64, coleco vision, atari 2600, sega master system w/ 3d glasses, dreamcast, xbox/360, PS1,2. chose 360 over ps3 cuz of online and halo. All I’m saying is that I choose wii u because it is the only home console IMO that changes game play mechanics. Box1 and the 4 is just a graphical update again IMO. the medium (25GB) has not changed only processors. Wii U will be able to do anything that the others can do. differences will be determined by the coders. Nintendo proved that the wii could produce beautiful games. Nintendo is not worried about the others. if you are a true nintendo fan you will see that the wii u is just the next step in Nintendo’s home console evolution. they have always push the boundaries in gaming with $200 to $300 home consoles. this gaming war is smoke… with nintendo you have to put in some work with your code to maximize the platform. hell nintendo themselves had issues learning their own architecture! it took time, american AAA developers are on profit schedules and have a marketing machine on tv and the web. i love gaming competition is good as it keeps all parties on their toes. I want to have to have all systems but as for now i am going Wii u ps3/360… same games cheaper price. thanks for listening… first time poster long time reader. love the community and the site… trolls too. they bring out the best in some of you out there

  • Sultan 7

    sorry thats Vectrex…
