When Steamworld Dig released last year on the Nintendo 3DS, it became an instant hit. The team at Image & Form have since released the game on Steam and today, the team announced that the game would be released on PlayStation 4 and PS Vita as well. Of course, this announcement prompted several fans to ask the team why no Wii U version was being considered. After a quick explanation that it would take a lot of work, one fan decided to ask what this work involved:

It’s understandable that the team is focusing on the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita launch for the game right now since that deal took time to secure with Sony, but the maybe later aspect does leave hope that the HD version of the game will eventually find its way to Nintendo’s home console as well. If you haven’t played Steamworld Dig yet, you can pick it up in the Nintendo 3DS eShop. It’s definitely worth the price.

Seems like everything is a maybe later these days 🙁

Dont worry atleast Image and Form aren’t those type of guys that would leave WiiU owners hanging.

  • WiiUPS4

    I’ll pass on this game!

Honestly, from a guy who does program, I find his reason to be a lame excuse. It isn’t hard to code for the Wii U, and considering the original game was on a 3DS, they already know how to code for the 2nd screen. Also, it isn’t difficult to render to the gamepad in HD (you don’t really have to do it in HD if you don’t want to).

I think they signed a deal with Sony, that would keep them from doing a Wii U version.

For just an indie game? Lol. Doubt that.

You make it sound like it’s a piece of cake, which we know It’s not.
Well anyway, I don’t believe they have a deal with Sony. In that case, they could just remove the 3DS version, huh? I think they just started developing for PS4 and Vita as the brand new console would be a priority, and also a big potential for their game.

At least they answered honestly. Nintendo forcing additional work on devs in regard to the gamepad has made it a hassle that is just not worth it considering the low install base. Good job Nintendo!!!
Maybe Nintendo should get the word out that since even they don’t give a heck about gamepad use (DKTF) that maybe these devs shouldn’t either. Just make a port of the game that will play on TV. Problem solved

Later huh? Sounds like every other dev I know…

    “Maybe later”

That’s usually what parents say when they know the answer is no.

    • DarkYoshi

Well they did it for 3DS, but a developer has to do his priorities first, and one would understand why PS4 comes first.

  • abe

render the game in HD is an issue? sure hope they don’t develop for sony’s HD consoles… oh wait

    • thedeciderU

      please understand

  • LJay

Lazy excuse,They dont even have to add the pad screen in…

Can’t really say if I would buy this again since I already have it on 3DS, great game though. If it ever comes to Wii U I may do it.
