The very latest UK console sales numbers reveal that the Wii U has managed to sell only 650,000 software units (i.e. games) during its first year on the market. By comparison, the Xbox One, which launched only weeks ago, has already sold 475,000 games on the platform. The Wii U games were outsold by Wii games as well, which sold almost twice as many during the last 12 months. Granted, there are a lot more Wii consoles on the market than Wii Us at this point. There is some good news, though: Wii U game sales have been increasing steadily since June, and over 88,000 Wii U titles were sold in the UK last month. The reason for the large number of Xbox One game sales is because the data includes sales of bundled items — games with a console included. This is also the case for any games bundled with the Wii U as well. local_offer Nintendo uk sales wii u wii u sales stars Further Reading Is Nintendo shafting Axiom Verge because of Dan Adelman? I hope like the 3ds the Wii u s slow start will cause us to get more Japanese titles that usually wouldn’t get launched Alexander Kleinwechter This is off-topic, but for you who sad they lost faith in nintendo from yesterday, then i have to say something. Nintendo released not so long ago, 2 games that were absolutely incredible, then you all say that nintendo doesnt understand the internet. How come they have the most console sold last gen. Nintendo knows what they are doing. If you people are gonna shit about nintendo for some low class show (VGX) then you need to open your eyes and see how many great games has come out recently on the wii u and 3DS. Im actually happy that they didnt show us zelda or a new game, because VGX was so horrible, so zelda deserves so much better. Im sure nintendo will reveal some new cool upcoming games. In the meanwhile play some new released awsome nintendo games, and im not saying this because im a nintendo hardcore fan, but because i just listened to some nintendo music, and i realised how awsome nintendo is! CMB exactly, zelda and metroid deserve much more than vgx, hell even donkey kong does. I want Zelda at e3 Magnus Eriksson Yeah, Reggie sure showed them assholes at VGX that they deserved the most crappy crap Nintendo got to offer. An old monkey jumping on a stick. Sure thought those haters a real lesson there… SamusPrime The reviews from the VGX was that it was a overall terrible event. But please keep dumping on Nintendo only. Shota believe me this was the worst VGX i’ve ever seen . Mercurio2054 this is my first and last….. and i’m old on this. rp17 DK is a fantastic game, but Smash and MK are astronomically higher. The excellent game of DK pales in comparison of the shear awesomeness of MK and Smash. And even though Nintendo gave the worst possible announcement about their “worst” game, it was still the highlight of the VGX. nexxus6 That is Magnus’ m.o. If he can’t dump on Nintendo than he has lost his voice and will be just a mute on the gaming boards. Matt Elgie “Sure thought those haters a real lesson there…”. Should be taught. Thought you may want to know! The Clockwork Being Not only that but the sales or the consoles are growing worldwide. Check VGZ charts, check the Japanese Media Center charts. Without a doubt the sales for the Wii U will explode at every new game release. Mario kart, Smash Bros, DK Tropical Freeze all have huge fanbase. Major spiking are to be predicted for each of these game release. Let’s not forget that Reggie promised no drought for the Wii U in 2014. Not only do the sales seem to grow everywhere but we should also look at all the U-Turns that the media have done. Some people were screaming doom and gloom before but then a few games come out, Mario gets praised and suddenly after talking doom and gloom these companies talk good about Nintendo. For me Nintendo will do great during Christmas and 2014. Was I disappointed by yesterdays announcement? Yes. Does that mean I have lost faith? Of course not. Anyways look at it DK wasn’t the announcement I wanted but if you look at it Nintendo didn’t really hype it up. It was the VGX staff that knew no one would watch the Award show and thus started hyping everyone up. The VGX was shit and the hosts were shit. Maybe a Nintendo Direct in January would be more suited for Smash Bros, SMT X FE, Zelda U info and Metroid info. Magnus Eriksson “Mario kart, Smash Bros, DK Tropical Freeze all have huge fanbase.” How many of those already own a Wii U? I say most of them, with an exception of MK8 owners. I dont think DKCTF will move that many consoles, the same goes for Smash. MK will probably attract quite many new console buyers, but the question remains : How many? The Clockwork Being Well Magnus let me surprise you a little. I don’t own a Wii U right now. 10-20 of my friends are all waiting for Smash Bros. A few of my other friends are RPG fanatics that have vouched to buy a Wii U only once either Shin Megami Tensei or Monolith Soft’s new RPG X comes out. Other of my friends are waiting for Zelda. Some want Metroid.Fact is that some people wait for the games they want before buying the console. herpaderpa who the hell has 10-20 friends ;[ The Clockwork Being Me ScrewAttack err….I’m not sure whether you mean that is a small number or a large one…. EDIT: About ten of my friends are waiting on smash to pick up a Wii U. Mercurio2054 hehe, you remember me few co-workers, they have ps3 and are waiting for smash ( most of them) and some for mk jjbredesen I am in a similar situation, i wanted to get a Wii U once i saw Windwaker HD was coming, and the rest of my frieinds (-5) are waiting for Zelda, Smash and MK. My other 5 are hardcore nintendo fans and bought it day 1. My friends waiting are about 10, but they will get it. And then there is a couple others that are stil waiting the game that will make them buy it. Justagamer I think someone has gotten me a xbox one for christmas Magnus Eriksson Im pretty sure you are the exception and not representative for every Wii U owner. I have maybe one or two friends who have shown SOME interest in Wii U. Most people doesnt care really… David John Gifford Y wait I bought my wiiu day 1 and I m waiting for every ni tendo first party game but ive been nintendo for over 25 years ICHI But then are they only going to buy one game for it, if so then they are part of the problem. The Clockwork Being Like I said to the other guy. They will buy a Wii U once Zelda is here then everything else. Its just to say that the main reason for them to buy the console will be one game then they will buy other ones. Graeme Lynch So wait. You’re saying that you have friends that are only buying a WiiU for 1 game!? I see they have plenty of disposable income… The Clockwork Being No that some of my friends are waiting for a specific game before buying the console. For example once Zelda comes out he will buy it along with some other games like X, Smash Bros, SMT X FE. Gregg Waiting hurts the console. Those 10-20 should get it now. TwinTails Fanbase ≠ Install base! There are Nintendo fans who own a 3DS who are still waiting for those games to come out, or are still saving money for a Wii U. Not to mention any regular gamers who do happen to pick up a Wii U to try out the games for once. Nintendo fans are the “wait and see” types, we didn’t all buy the 3DS immediately after launch like some people imply. Magnus Eriksson “Nintendo fans are the “wait and see” types, we didn’t all buy the 3DS immediately after launch like some people imply.” My guess would be the opposite. Those who bought the Wii U are the fans, they are convinced it will be good. Those coming later waits for proof that its good, and not so much fans. However I agree. People should be very careful about buying a Nintendo console. Much better to wait a year-and-a-half or even two years before taking the risk on a Nintendo console. Jacob D. Taylor I feel the same for Xbox consoles. I’ll wait until they make a system that doesn’t allow people to watch me while I chill in my living room or a system that isn’t guaranteed to fail on me and a system that doesn’t have only shit to play before investing $500 whopping dollars on it. Dáibhí wotshissurname I am the wait and see typ, given how I was a regular user here fornearly a year before i got a wii u nexxus6 Why should people wait 1.5 to 2 years before “taking a risk” on a Nintendo console? Also, what “risk” is being taken? In your eyes, Magnus, it will never be a good time for you to recommend buying a WiiU, because you will always find some sort of fault. Your arrogance and pessimism will never allow you to admit to people that the WiiU is a good console that offers some amazing gaming experiences. TwinTails Huh? So by your logic, there’s 2.1 million Sony fans and 1 million Microsoft fans compared to Nintendo’s 3.6 million, all launch numbers mind you. I should add that only the diehards buy consoles at launch and wait through horrible game droughts, much like the early adopters for the other systems most likely will. Some of us did wait for our most anticipated games to come out and there are some who say so on this site. I’m waiting until January until I can get a Wii U for myself. steve your probably right about dk and mk . but i know several who will go get a wii u for smash. i think smash will bring over the hardcore audience. Magnus Eriksson How many do you think will buy Smash? Jacob D. Taylor Smash is traditionally not a grotesquely successful game. Where did it land on the Wii sales? It was only 11.5 as compared to Wii Fit’s incredible 43 million. So it’s one of the more successful games but Nintendo doesn’t bank on it quite like it did New Super Mario Bros, Wii Fit and Wii Sports which were the Wii’s bread and butter. nexxus6 Just accept the fact that you will never convince Magnus that his opinion is wrong or mis-guided. Akatosh Brawl was pretty bad though. Jacob D. Taylor Brawl has been my least favorite… there were just a few mechanics that …. just drove me nuts! Kay Wrobel You can’t really count Wii Fit as it was bundled with the original Wii system. Jacob D. Taylor I don’t remember Wii Fit ever having a packaged form. I know WIi Sports was at launch and then Wii Sports Resort and NSMB Wii as well but never Wii Fit. I’ll look it up but I’m skeptical Kay Wrobel Douh. You’re right. That was Wii Sports. I totally confused those two there. Jacob D. Taylor Haha, no prob! Akatosh Quite a few actually. steve im sure alot will, for alot of people i know they get nintendo consoles just for smash. rp17 Yes, people who already own a Wii U will buy those games, but those games all are system sellers. DK is a favorite of the causal audience. Casuals would likely buy the Wii U for DK before NSMBU or even SM3DW. Mario Kart will sell systems, but you already agree. And I can’t tell you how many times I have heard someone say they are specifically waiting for Smash! Probably hundreds of people whether through comments, Youtube videos, or personal friends said they will buy a Wii U the MOMENT Smash comes out, even if it was JUST for Smash! You seem to have EXTREMELY underestimated the power of Smash Bros! Magnus Eriksson Well, of course I might have done that. How many do you think will buy Smash Bros? In total? Percentage of those already owning a Wii U? rp17 Almost everyone who ones a Wii U will get it. But so many people would buy a Wii U JUST for Smash, I don’t know. It might even double Wii U install base! So maybe ~50%. Just a shot in the dark. This could be an overestimate or an underestimate. Akatosh Sorry to disappoint you, but I can think of about 10 people I know waiting for a new Zelda game/Smash Brothers. Magnus Eriksson Why would that disappoint me? Akatosh Because it goes contrary to your opinion. Gregg Many are waiting for those titles, which, is like shooting yourself in the foot. It hurts the future of the Console you will eventually own Jelle Knibbe U-turns. Badum-tsss Suraj Alexander I disagree with the Zelda, metroid, smash and x being announced on a direct. those games should be shown on a highly viewed show like E3. These games should be shown to everyone not just the direct viewers. Only people really interested in wii u and 3ds watch it. they need to show to those who not yet have interest in wii u to get their interest. Majora’s Mask you see regardless of their being shown on the direct people will find out anyway Suraj Alexander But not so with the casual audience. Jacob D. Taylor Yeah nor does the casual audience tune in to watch E3 live either. Either way, either format the info leaks onto Youtube and facebook and the casual audience THEN finds out. CMB this what I think, generally only Nintendo fans watch Nintendo directs. Show thoses games of at e3 and let other gamers find out about it Nathan Verbois I don’t necessarily disagree, but any good news from a Nintendo Direct would immediately get picked up by most news outlets, so it wouldn’t really matter too much. I don’t know anyone outside of the core gaming crowd that even knows what the VGX are. nin-10-doughfan reggie was also wearing a metroid pin! Akatosh He’s also the boss of NoA. Adam Porter do you want to know how sad and out of touch nintendo is, earlier today i saw an asda advert for rayman legends on tv, a game that was supposed to be a wiiU exclusive, and the only versions advertised were ps3 and xbox360. not 12 months ago it was a nintendo EXCLUSIVE, now it’s not even being advertised for that console. it’s ridiculous. The Clockwork Being I thought I was the only one that saw these type of ads. I was watching soccer and during the commercial break Splinter Cells: Blacklist ad starts to play. The Wii U one which Ubisoft stated was the definitive version wasn’t on there. But isn’t that Ubisoft’s fault it is their game. SamusPrime I’m sure Ubisoft is to blame, but that goes against the MO that it is always Nintendo’s fault. Adam Porter tbf i think it’s 2 completely different scenarios, my point is how ridiculous it is that a console can be failing so badly that a game that was once exclusive on that console is now not even being advertised for it but is for other consoles that it was never meant to be on. Alexander Kleinwechter You know that the wii u has more console sold then ps4 and xbox one combined right now, as for now, it isnt a failure! Adam Porter oh ok i’m sorry, a console that has been out atleast 6 times longer thatn it’s competition has more total sales, i see your point, i don’t know where i went wrong with my calculations. Alexander Kleinwechter LOL, but concidering that most sales from all consoles are from the launch, and you know that wii u sold more consoles in their launch then ps4 or xbox one! EDIT: I meant the launch window, not the launch day itself. Also PS2 sold only 500.000 units its first day, and ps4 sold 1000.000 million its first day, look where ps2 went, long term sales is that what counts, obviously! Daniel Gonzalez Why is PS4 even in the equation? Lol. Or the Xbox One for that matter. Those two just launched recently. Of course long term sales matter more, and with that said, that doesn’t apply to the xbox one or PS4 because those two aren’t at the point of long term sales. Neither is the Wii U. Your post doesn’t appear to make sense. Alexander Kleinwechter Well, thats what i sad, long term sales only count, OBVIOUSLY, by that, we have to wait and see right? Daniel Gonzalez Wait and see is all we can do at this point. Of course, I’m not worried on who makes more sales. I just want games that I can enjoy. I don’t know about everyone else here, but winning is the last thing I think about in terms of gaming. Personally, I think that all three consoles had great launches, but even I don’t know if the PS4 or Xbox One will continue to have sales spikes when we enter 2014. Really depends on what games are out there to make it worth buying a WiiU, PS4 or Xbox One. Alexander Kleinwechter Yes of course it doesnt matter who wins.I think i can concider buying a ps4, that shouldnt be a problem with anybody, the same thing should also go for ps4 and xbox fans. Though honestly, with the xbox one things i have heard lately. The xbox really dont appeal to me at all, but who knows, maybe that will change! Jacob D. Taylor Thank you for being intelligent. I sincerely hope someone gets you a medal! Justagamer The Wii U is only a failure to those that hate it..Gamers like us love it and that is all that matters Jacob D. Taylor Isn’t that the truth though? The haters are really those who choose to hate it. I can’t even play my xbox anymore. It’s just a crappy piece of junk that is so caked in dust I dare breath near it. The Wii U just offers a more entertaining experience imo. Jelle Knibbe Yes, because Nintendo produces Ubi’s ads. Of course. Adam Porter not what i’m saying at all, i know nintendo has no power over the ad, but it should have had because it should have been a nintendo exclusive title. Jelle Knibbe well, Nintendo also had no power over the exclusivity of the title. Once the hardware sales were so disappointing, Ubisoft decided to make the game multiplatform. If Nintendo had any power over that decision, it’d still be exclusive. Adam Porter isn’t that the point? Jelle Knibbe What, Nintendo hwving no power over another company’s game? Could you please explain further? Adam Porter my point is the wiiU’s failure to sell is the reason a game which should have been exclusive is no longer exclusive and as to such an extreme as it is now not even being advertised for, now if you can’t see the irony in that then i don’t know…….. Jelle Knibbe i see the irony, but it just looked like you were blaming Nintendo for hat commercial. Of course, that’s not to say Nintendo’s own marketing is anywhere close to good. Magnus Eriksson Take ten seconds on reflecting over the fact that Ubi doesnt mention the Wii U. What do you conclude with? Akatosh … Hmm… Must be the UK. 🙂 Akatosh Hey, so I hear a Wii U commercial in the background right now… verymetal I get what your saying, but the first party games have not been coming in a steady pace. Also, it is important to have variety from Nintendo which I just don’t see so far. All of these games that are out now, should have been in the launch window for the system. This is a major problem because quality software will move consoles, but if it is more of the same and nothing to look forward too in the short term (2015 and 2016 is a long way off) then they can’t possibly expect to garner any interest in the Wii U. Nintendo needs to put their enormous egos aside and actually listen to gamers. Jacob D. Taylor That’s the problem, gamers aren’t their audience. If Nintendo had the most powerful system, most definitive version of every game, people would still hate on the Big N, because it has a history of having a family appeal which just tickles so many people the wrong way. I can absolutely guarantee you that NIntendo isn’t sitting over in Kyoto thinking ‘stupid people won’t buy whatever we give them!’ No, they are deliberating over what the most people will buy. In the Wii generation those were Wii Sports in all its forms, Wii Fit, New Super Mario Bros and Super Mario Galaxy. What games have they come out with this year then? Sequels to all of those. What would YOU have them do? If Nintendo listened to ‘gamers’ they would have died years ago. Simon Stevens Kranky Kong though….. I love Nintendo to death but I can’t defend that, nobody should wish for new Zelda to be tucked away in the closet! Mozellergodt ” you all say that nintendo doesnt understand the internet. How come they have the most console sold last gen” Logic where? Positive feedback is not what Nintendo needs atm. DragonSilths Nobody has an issue with Nintendo’s games. We have an issue with how Nintendo does business. The behind the scenes and such. Commander Jim “Nintendo knows what they are doing” Falling so spectacularly short of their own targets shows that they don’t. Jacob D. Taylor Let’s all remember kids that company’s have complete control over their sales and their market! Xbox is well aware that everyone on planet earth is ready to bend over and kiss their tattered behind just because they said so. Commander Jim is right guys, Xbox said they are going to sell the most so therefore they will! nin-10-doughfan absolutely! Forbsz fan boy can’t see the truth. Justagamer Agreed Sydney Ultrasyd Don’t worry, thanks to Cranky Kong, it’s going to sell incredibly well : ) Keyser Still better than the Vita! 😀 NintenScience lol, a downvote… Keyser Lol I know (almost immediately), but it is true. At least Wii U sales are starting to increase. Vita has been out like 2 years with still no sign of recovery. It’s a shame, really, because it looks like a great system, but I won’t be getting one unless it gets better games brian0057 And now has been relegated to be a PS4 add-on tronic307 Sony should bundle Vita with PS4 at $499 just to troll the Xbox One’s price point. Arthur Jarret It is an awesome system… I’m really on the precipe of getting it – Persona 4 golden, tearaway, soul sacrifice and mruamasa rebirth all are awesome. The problem of Vita is that it is essentially marketed as a system for ‘console games on the go’. Most gamers see they can get the same games with better graphics on the PS3 (and much better graphics on the PS4). It doesn’t help that high profile exclusives (such as Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate and AC: Liberation) get improved ports. I have seen a lot of people say they want to buy a vita, though – due to the PS-plus games giving them extra incentive. I still think Vita might turn things around due to this. Magnus Eriksson Yeah fellow-fanboys. The Nintendomination have begun! Now we showed them haters how great Wii U is. And with the DK secret uncovered, showing Cranky Kong jumping on a stick, this rise will continue to an unprecedented level. Backed up with Yarn Yoshi and a new entry in NSMBU series this will be blasting. Hooray! Im popping the champagne now! NintenScience Oh, the sarcasm… xd Nintedward Sarcasm ? 😛 Magnus Eriksson Sarcasm Arthur Jarret Eek! Magnus Eriksson But you are from UK? Why do you think this happens? I thought Ninty was pushing some steam there and becoming more visible? Nintedward Nintendo will be fine. I am personally getting sick of all this doom bull shit. If people don’t like NIntendo, then don’t think or talk about them…. Just let them do what they do and let the people like us enjoy games like 3D world and ALBW, games that imo, SHIT on the competitors games. The 3DS will outsell the PS4 and Xbox one lifetime sales, so regardless of what happens to Wiiu, NIntendo still remains VERY VERY relevant. Adam Porter that is not the point, i love nintendo games, but they just aren’t making the games that i want to buy yet, i bought my wiiU day one with the hope of games that i’d love releasing within the next year, i know zelda was probably not coming but i thought maybe a proper 3D mario not some 3d/2d mashup bullshit, why can’t i have mariosunshine2 or a game like it? TwinTails I doubt Nintendo would make another game like that within the Wii U’s lifecycle, though. Daniel Gonzalez Only difference is, 3DS is a handheld/portable, not a console. So the comparison doesn’t make sense to make. Sounds like sour grapes to me. If Wii U fails, people will use the excuse of the 3DS to try to strengthen their arguments. Hell, I wouldn’t even use that argument if the Vita was having the same success as the 3DS. No real gamer honestly thinks Nintendo is irrelevant, only those who are offended will bring up that argument. Or those who aren’t too confident in their favorite company. Sounds quite silly. 😛 Nintedward ”No real gamer honestly thinks Nintendo is irrelevant” That’s the most false sentence I’ve ever heard. Only assholes think Nintendo aren’t relevant, real gamers will be seriously considering buying Nintendo’s hardware and games (unles they already own them) so they can play some of the best games on the planet such as ALBW and 3D world. Nothing to do with being sour, I try to be as open minded as possible. In fact, I am playing on my PS4 right now and its great. Just because the 3DS is a portable doesn’t mean anything, it’s still a very serious gaming platform with an absolutely incredible library of games that grows by the day. It’s gaming hardware that like I said will outsell the Xbox one and PS4 lifetime. All in all Nintendo is still very relevant and the only way you would disagree with that is if you were an average gamer with a poor taste in games. Daniel Gonzalez Did I ever call Nintendo relevant? I know I sure didn’t. Also, just because there are a lot of gamers out there who don’t like Nintendo games, doesn’t mean they have no taste in games. Hell, even I don’t play every Nintendo game there is, cause I have my own taste in games today. Even with that fact in mind, I wouldn’t call any company irrelevant. I’m glad you play something other than Nintendo, cause I don’t think we should limit ourselves to just one console. I’m fine with you loving Nintendo games more as long as you’re not trying to say Nintendo games are the best when it comes to 1st party, because we know that’s only subjective at best. Also, the fact remains that the 3DS isn’t in the same market as the WIi U, Xbox One or PS4, so the comparison doesn’t match up. 3DS is in a league of it’s own and no one is denying it’s success. However, it has nothing to do with the console market. If the Wii U, fails then it fails. 3DS won’t make the Wii U better. Just in it’s own market. It’s the same deal with PS4 and XBox one, if they fail, then they fail. I call it like it is. Personally, I think a lot of Nintendo fans on here think too hard on success or who wins this war. Personally speaking, I’m not interested in who wins. I just want the games that I prefer. Again, you come off as sour to me, but glad you’re actually not, because no one should take gaming that seriously. 😛 Nintedward ”Nintendo games are the best when it comes to 1st party, because we know that’s only subjective at best.” It’s common knowledge almost a 100% fact that Nintendo has the best first party games in the inustry. Sony’s 1st party studios aren’t far behind and some of them like Naughty dog are becoming industry leaders. But Sony have an awful long way to go before they can match Nintendo’s 1st party dynasty Mario , Zelda , Pokemon , Smash bros , Mario Kart the list goes on. Sure some people may prefer Sony’s 1st party efforts over Nintendo’s, But I think it is still very much a general opinion that Nintendo makes the best exlusives. Anyway Daniel I think I miss understood you a little in your first comment an I’m not trying to argue! All just for fun. I was just saying, between the 3DS and Wiiu Nintendo is still very very very relevant, especially to proper gamers. Casual fifa lovers? Sure Nintendo is irrelivant… Daniel Gonzalez “It’s common knowledge almost a 100% fact that Nintendo has the best first party games in the inustry. Sure some people may prefer Sony’s 1st party efforts over Nintendo’s, But I think it is still very much a general opinion that Nintendo makes the best exlusives” It is common knowledge that many people who are Nintendo fans and other gamers do share your opinion and that’s good. However, it’s not a fact. General opinion, perhaps. Of course, I don’t think neither of us know everyone in the world to make it known as a general opinion. We usually go by what we hear from the media, forums, and people we know. I’m not trying to argue with you on who makes the best 1st party, cause it’s really to each their own one way or another. I can only go as far as to say one of the best. Sony just makes great 1st party that appeals to me more than Nintendo in recent years. Even with that said, Nintendo isn’t irrelevant to me, they just don’t create the games I love today with the exception of Smash Bros and Mario Kart, which both are very addictive to me. At the end of the day, I think we’ll continue to play what we prefer and none of this will matter tomorrow. Just like you, I argue video games for fun and never take it to heart. Much respects. 😛 Mercurio2054 i think you talk about 3ds because of people saying that Nintendo is doom… wii u can sell les than gc and Nintendo will be ok because of the3DS. Adam Porter though how do 3ds sales mean anything for wiiU?? Rinslowe Wii U hasn’t failed yet so I guess we’ll just have to take your word on that one mate… 🙂 Daniel Gonzalez Course not. Never said it has. It’s having better sales right now, so we’ll see how 2014 turns out. Justagamer Agreed but some people just want to hate regarless Rinslowe Yeah the whole doom and gloom nonsense needs more time playing SM3DW, and….gone. See how Nintendo did that? Yeah exactly…. Haters just got btch slapped. Rinslowe Lol every time I see or hear Cranky Kong I nearly piss myself. And no that doesn’t usually happen naturally for me, lol. What were they thinking showing DK at Spike of all places.?Glad I totally missed it. From what people have been saying on the internet it was cringe worthy material at best anyway. Sydney Ultrasyd Cranky will save the Wii U 😀 ! Jack5221 Wii games are super cheap right now. Doesn’t surprise me. Then again its UK… a huge majority of UK are hardcore FIFA, COD and Xbox fans. Theres really no better place to play COD than on Xbox, it has the best controller for shooters. The Clockwork Being Just a question how did the XboxOne sell less then the Wii U. Isn’t the UK the land of Xbox. Yuma Tsukumo A lot of people are looking to the PS4 over the Xbox one so this isn’t really too surprising. No matter where people live, MS have left a bad taste in everyone’s mouths after the whole DRM thing, then doing a 180. Sylux Kinda depends on how you define UK, do you define it as UK only, then it is strange indeed, might be the price tag though. But if you define UK as the “whole” of Europe which WiiU daily and every other American site refers to Europe by calling it UK I can explain I think. The XOne isn’t available in all of Europe and according recent rumours that won’t happen either until March 2014, unlike PS4 which IS available in all of Europe but is also simply sold out everywhere expecting to stay so to half January, early february. Edit: Now I don’t have exact availability numbers for XOne in Europe, but for a fact it is for now atleast available in the UK, Germany and France, maybe 2 or 3 more countries within the European union, but honestly I don’t care either, always been a Nintendo, Playstation and PC gamer myself. Can’t care less for XBox, not much for PSP/Vita either though. SamusPrime Video gamers are such babies. Piss and moan, piss and moan. Zorpix Nintendo just doesnt have a hold on the Euro market, plain and simple Adam Porter and fanboys will still profess that nintendo haven’t any problems, i’m sick of this shit tbh. SamusPrime Do you have any evidence to support your claim? Adam Porter what claim? that the wiiU is not selling?? well sales figures that are available on the net back up my claim, the fact that software sales figures for 12months of the wiiU are the same as a console that just released a month ago back up my claim. and i can personally say that since i am the only person i know of in my group of friends that has or even wants a wiiU i can tell you now that nintendo have problems. SamusPrime Your statement that fanboys can’t acknowldege the struglling Wii U. That’s the claim I want you to back up. Adam Porter just read some of the comments here, and in other threads, there are tons of examples of delusional fanboys, and to top it off it seems half of them don’t actually own a wiiU anyway. SamusPrime I think they are fully aware of the situation, but they just want to enjoy their system, and not have to constantly be forced to defend it. They tell themselves that Nintedo will be fine (which the company will). I prefer that, then having to deal with whiny crybabies, that will complain about anything under the sun. I think there are far more people like that on these boards. Adam Porter i’m sure nintendo will be fine, i’m just saying that it’s delusional to think the wiiU is fine which many fanboys here do. it’s not fine it won’t be fine, it hasn’t been fine since march, excuse after excuse has been made and i’m sick listening to it. and above all i want a proper game not another 2d sidescroller, it’s 2013 not 1993. nexxus6 Do they ever? Magnus Eriksson They have problems. But are those numbers that bad relatively to consoles sold? Software sales must always be compared to install base and not with other consoles. Am I not right? SamusPrime It’s a decent attachment rate for the number of consoles sold. Adam Porter yes it’s terrible, nothing changes the fact that the xbox one is doing in one month what it took the wiiU 12 months to do. why could nintendo not generate these sales with the wiiU, the market was obviously there, so what happened? Deadpool U If you’re sick of people defending their console using facts then that’s your problem. Adam Porter WHAT FACTS?? did you read the article, those are the facts, saying nintendo are going to pull something out of their arses sometime way down the line in teh future just because they have to and it’s nintendo is not a FACT!!! jesus sometimes i read these comments and the amount of people here saying they love the wiiU AND CAN’T WAIT TO BUY ONE EVENTUALLY, bullshit, i have the damn thing, day one purchaser right here, i do like the console but where the hell are the games already, i want proper console games not something that could be done on a handheld but just with glossier graphics. SamusPrime What games do you have? The system has been out for a little over a year and I have 25 games for it. Adam Porter MHU, which is just MHtri really, NSMBU which is just NSMBwii, WWHD which is just WW in HD, Fifa because it came with teh bundle, BlackOps2, Pikmin3(which is awesome), nintendo land which is good, and about 10 VC games. ZombiU aswell. SamusPrime You should get both TW101 and Lego City, those are great games. Adam Porter yea they look grand. Akai Monster hunter 3 Ultimate is awesome! its stolen 150 hours of my life but I’ve heard people clocking in at around 400+. its not just tri its more much more, Brachydios man he’s baws along with Dire Miralis. yup brilliant game cured my Wii U software drought at the time atleast. gotta admit online is pretty damn sweet was blown away on my first online hunt. And thats me in the mood for it Deadpool U No the fact is Nintendo doesn’t have a hold on the European market plain and simple why don’t just leave if you don’t like this site so much? Instead of acting like a child so if you’ll excuse me I have a Wii U to playso don’t bother replying. verymetal The reason they don’t have a hold on the European market is because of their lack of quality software. Great games move systems and every single game that is out for the Wii U should have been released in the launch window. There is hardly any first party variety in their games and people have a right to be pissed for investing in a console that has not lived up to the expectations promised by the company. It is clear you are a fanboy and that is fine, but when you start writing about facts and don’t support any of your statements then your conclusions leaves much to be desired. Ice Climbers I’d like to point out that Nintendo has never had much of a hold on the European market, barring the Wii. NES, SNES, N64, and Gamecube all had a poorer hold over the European market. Part of this is due to Nintendo’s pathetic handling of the market in the past – most games didn’t arrive in Europe until several months or even years after they were released everywhere else. That went on for nearly 20 years. Europeans have built up a bit of a grudge against Nintendo as a result, even if they don’t realize it. It wasn’t until the DS came around that Nintendo became interested in the European market. Nintendo is lucky their handhelds even have the ground that they do in the European market. Zorpix I’m a “fanboy” and I’m pissed at them nexxus6 Your post has just as must substance as if I were to say “and haters will still profess that everything Nintendo does is a failure, I’m sick of this….”. Nintedward That’s a LOT of software per Wiiu console in the UK… People buying like 4 Wiiu games per console this year. CEObrainz Or in my case, three but I may splurge this Christmas and buy a few more games to add to my list. Nintedward I’ve bought about 15 Wiiu games since launch. BUT I do have a special arrangement because my good family friends own a game store so when I trade them in I get most of my money back say £30 back for a £40 game! or a bit less…. So really I spend like £10 to own a game for a month… Suraj Alexander Damn, u so lucky!! CEObrainz Lucky you, the most I can get is about 10 to 20 percent off the cost due to a friend who works at an Argos. Nintedward That’s pretty decent ! Games like Tekken tag 2, NInja gaiden 3 RE , Mass effect 3 SE , Lego city etc etc etc. I wouldn’t normally buy these games for full price. But I do knowing that I will get the majority of my money back after I have finished it! Kind of like a long term rental. Obviously there are a lot of games that I buy and Keep like 3D world, NSMBU , Pikmin 3 etc. CEObrainz Sure you have a point, also those future releases to look forward to. Yuma Tsukumo Nintendo barely advertise in the UK so this isn’t surprising at all. The only adverts in the UK at the moment is promoting Just Dance 2014 (Along side the original Wii version -facepalm-) and Mario 3D world. It’s true that a lot of people here in the UK prefer Sony and Xbox but it almost feels like, That’s the only choice now. I have a Wii U and i love the console but i just think Nintendo have screwed up a lot with it. They had a WHOLE YEAR to market the Wii U and give people that ‘Next Gen’ Feeling first. But instead they choose to do little to no marketing and here in the UK the choose to promote the 3DS so much more than the Wii U. Nintendo had such a chance to make the Wii U better but it’s almost like they’re holding back, We all know that Nintendo can do better than this (Look at the 3DS) the Wii U has a lot of potential and Nintendo aren’t as behind as they were last gen. I just hope now that the PS4 and Xbox One have been released, That it isn’t too little too late. I tend to hate negative comments and i want to see all consoles succeed but at the moment, things are looking increasingly bad for the Wii U. I think if Mario 3D world and Windwaker HD were launch titles, the Wii U would be doing so much better than it is now. 2014 promises to be a good year for the console though. I just hope they have more killer titles so people will pick up the system, The Wii U needs 3rd party support to do well. Nintendo aren’t going to die anytime soon, even if the Wii U is a complete failure but all the same, as long as they manage to build bridges with other developers and keep on making those 1st party games that everyone loves, I can see the console doing very well. If Nintendo are able to do this i can see this gen playing out like this: 1st PS4. 2nd Wii U. 3rd Xbox One. Here’s hoping 2014 is going to be an incredible year for the Wii U! (Can’t Wait for Monolith’s X!) TwinTails Wow, they weren’t kidding when they said UK was their weakest market, but most of this can be attributed to UK’s relatively small size in the market as well as very few must have games out this month. CEObrainz I’m afraid to say that most people I know usually look at Graphics before deciding whether a game is good or not. Of course this doesn’t pertain to everyone but with that mindset it’s justified how the XBone/PS4 will outsell the Wii U in the UK throughout it’s lifetime. TwinTails A lot of other UK gamers are deeply ashamed about that, too. jrob23 they like Fifa…Nintendo isn’t getting it. Thus, very low sales. It’s simple as that. peeer Why don’t you post about the new character reveal on Donkey Kong? Oh wait its true… You prefer always posting negative stuff about Nintendo… Besides I think those sales numbers are awesome considering the low number Wii U units sold in the UK. CEObrainz News is news, whether it’s Negative or Positive for Wii U owners/fans peeer But with John Kinsley its most of the time negative… CEObrainz It’s a different side of the Wii U that still needs to be heard, some more positive news like the announcement of Cranky Kong would be much appreciated as well, but we just have to deal with what we have and wait till more news comes out I guess. peeer I’m not saying that they shouldn’t post about this I was just saying that he omit to post about the new character reveal and he posts this… Hoping to make him post about the new character too as well. CEObrainz Hmm, I get ya. Perhaps Ashley or another writer may post about the character reveal instead? peeer Why would it have to rely on Ashley when she is not working during the weekends and John is around to make the site run? EDIT: Always posting negatives like that for a news poster like John Kinsley just makes him look like he is a hater unfortunately… Thats all I’m trying to make him realise. CEObrainz Well I only used Ashley as an example because she was the first person that came to mind, but there are other writers for this site as I mentioned before. peeer But why you keep on defending John Kinsley… I’m beginning to think you are one of his fan or friend or something. What he did just proves I’m right about him thats all there is to my comment. What another poster posted or will post in the future won’t change the fact that John Kinsley is what he is. CEObrainz I can’t defend and will not defend someone I know nothing about, I don’t see a point in that. All I was saying it that we should deal with what we get, there is nothing else to it. I even agreed with you that the character reveal for DK should have been posted as well, so I don’t get how my comments make me a Kinsley fan…. peeer Because the whole purpose of my comment was to talk about John Kinsley solely, not about WiiUDaily. But I understand that from a reader’s point of view like you it could have been unclear specially since you seem new here. I’m sorry… I was kinda pissed that you came and re-replied the same shit from your previous comment. I thought you was defending him because of that. CEObrainz Ahh, I see. My comments were tailored to the site in general. However it would have been better to construct your opening point in a debate like fashion than in a “bashing” sort of way. I double posted? Where? But yea, no prob. Edit: Ahh just saw your edit now so I think I see what you meant…. RyuNoHadouken he just keeps it real…get over it peeer LoL this discussion was done for a while… I don’t see why you think it was still going. Adam Porter because nobody cares, they never did and never will, i don’t give on fuck about DKTF especially now. InsaneZucchini That’s an average attach rate of 4 games per Wii U. That’s not too bad actually. If there were more Wii U’s sold in the UK, that’d be very bad, but considering how many systems have been moved it’s not that bad a turn out. Especially since an attach rate of 4 means Nintendo is making a profit. Hopefully this will get better and they can push more systems and games though, because even while profitable it’s not a good turn out. RyuNoHadouken that attach rate is wrong considering these figures also account for all packaged in games too, including Nintendo Land InsaneZucchini Hmm, taking that into consideration it’s actually difficult to determine what the actual attach rate is for any system be it the Wii, PS3, Xbox One, or as the case stands the Wii U. However as most bundles only come with one game and the initial Wii U basic didn’t come with any games at all. With no base price bundle, £249.99, having more than one full price game, the actual average attach rate should still be higher than two and still making them profit per Wii U sold. Also any consoles sold before the price drop only needed an attach rate of one to make them a profit, though marginal. Again, hopefully sales pick up, because even if they’re not making losses on it, the numbers are still very poor. Chronic Gang UK is an xbox loving country TwinTails PS4. Chronic Gang it only has 75k sales and xboxone has 475k? unless this was before it released in the uk Guest PS4 in Europe has 708k of sales. 250k of those sales came in the first 48 hours. Chronic Gang were talking about UK dumb ass not europe GariNGB Thats software sales and you have to remember (like John states in his article above), that the numbers include games that come with the consoles and all day one editions of the Xbox One came with either FIFA 14 or Forza 5 in the UK. BGhp Nintendo has to start taking action because this is ridiculous. Krzysztof No surprises here. Today I went to Asda and Wii U and Wii are on the same rack (Xbox got almost whole isle). What’s worse … there weren’t any Wii U games at all! I’m not joking. I couldn’t find a singe Wii U box apart form few accessories. Two months ago they’ve had few games and not a single new one. All of them were lunch titles. Yesterday I found Wii U basic in Argos … warehouse clearance … for £169. Let’s face it, in UK (and whole Europe) Wii U is practically nonexistent. Cat42 ASDA have Wii U on their shelves again? Interesting U-turn, since they ditched the console completely in the summer. That’s encouraging. Just checked Argos online and they have most of the Wii U console bundles available, and they’re bundling those with their own special offers, as well. Went into my local Game a couple of weeks before the big launches – there were Wii U consoles on the shelves, both new and used. Still, most of the shop was given over to XBOX and Playstation, though. What is disappointing, despite news of Nintendo teaming up with Tesco for a marketing drive from October through to the holiday season, my local Tesco had just a single Gamepad stand on sale two days ago. Mind you, they had only a few PS3 and 360 games, and absolutely nothing on the X1 and PS4… Mercurio2054 goood bye vita GariNGB Interesting, but not surprising really – http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/news/10500910/Wii-U-beats-PS4-and-Xbox-One-onto-kids-Christmas-lists.html Relick I am surprised, Wii U is practically unheard of up and down the country and now it is the most wanted thing? Amazing. I imagine I’m the only one with a Wii U in a 30 mile radius. Even if it was spurred on by Lego, that is truly astonishing. GariNGB I think you need to read the article again and work out what its main talking point is. Its not about the main amount of people that own a Wii U at all. Clearly you decided that you couldn’t be bothered to read the full article. I wont tell you what its about, but let you work it out for yourself (if you can be bothered to read it) HypocritesRROD Wow, xbox one! Yeah, i’m not buying crap. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txbrwfVilNc Rinslowe UK sales both software and hardware may be low overall. But it still follows the trend for the most part. Everyone now is pretty clear on why the first half of 2013 was a sales disaster for the platform, Wii U simply didn’t have any games worth getting excited about. The people have voted unanimously and that began an upward climb starting with Pikmin 3, that is still improving today. Perhaps the UK due to general tastes of the average gamer means Wii U will only ever achieve average results. Possibly the same could be said of Australia/ NZ and South Africa. But the markets to keep an eye on for explosive Wii U sales in future is certainly the US/ Canada, South America, Europe and Japan. Relick The UK is a strange gaming market, albeit simple. The 360 recently outsold the Wii, and most likely due to Fifa, GTA and CoD. Families are not the primary market for family consoles, funnily enough, the most I’ve seen a Wii used (outside my house) is by drunk adults at a party looking to have a good time on Just Dance. Another thing is that people heavily follow trends here in the UK. It is surprising how quickly something catches on, and that is what has happened with Apple products, and the XBox, and even the Wii in its earlier years. This year though, I think the Wii U will do better in the UK because things like Lego and Scribblenauts actually really do appeal to the younger audiences and make it less of a family console and more of a children’s console. It is more like a GameCube and a Wii stuck together in that it has the child appeal of the GameCube which did very well in the UK until the PS2, while retaining the family friendliness of the Wii. I think this will all be for the best in the UK, now that people finally realise the Wii U exists and isn’t just an addon to the Wii. Rinslowe ” is by drunk adults at a party looking to have a good time on Just Dance.” Oh Hell no! lol…. Thanks for the info on UK. Honestly I know very little about it… Hopefully you’re right and Wii U will have a decent year there. Relick Yeah me too, I’m lonely with my Wii U 🙁 Leo WiiU is an awesome console LoBo_UK I chose the wii u over the ps4 , both run at 1080p , It was an easy decision , do I buy a ps4 and play BF4 and Ghosts , or buy a Wii U and Ghosts which is just as good on the wii u as it is on the ps4 , plus I get to play Wind Waker , one of my favourite games of all time , and bide my time and wait 3 or 4 months for Mario Kart 8 which incidentally does not come out on the ps4 , there was no contest .. Wii U won with out saying LoBo_UK As soon as Smash Brothers and Mario Kart are released , the Wii U will be flying of the shelf , I have no doubt about that , and a few of my friends on face book have stated they are waiting for these games before they buy a wii U .. Mithiragi That’s what all my friends say. “I’ll get one when Smash comes out.” Adam Howell Maybe more people will download games with the abandonment of the Wii U in shops. I pretty much exclusively download games myself. I don’t know what the sales of consoles are in the uk but with figures like that I’d imagine many are making do with the bundled software… Even if, for many, it’s just Nintendo Land. GariNGB My local GAME (in the UK) used to have the smallest section for the Wii U and the rest of the store is dedicated to Sony and Microsoft hardware + software but when I went into there recently to pick up a few PS4 games, the Wii U section has actually grown and GAME have given a Nintendo a bigger slice of retail space. Thats a good sign as it means that the Wii U is selling better where I live. Im not sure if its the same in other GAME retail stores, but in mine, it is. Good news for sure. Michael Rowlands here is a video to show the wii u is not weak….I think we need to get this video out to as many people as we can to show ps4 and xbox1 fanboys that the wii u is not underpowered all weak…….http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbutJG9-AH8 Daniel Gonzalez Well, I don’t know about fanboys, so I won’t go there. Without being biased at all, the Wii U isn’t underpowered, but it isn’t on par with PS4 or Xbox One either. Basically the Wii U is stronger than the PS3 and 360, but under when it comes to Xbox One and PS4. I can’t speak for fanboys, but for me it’s easy to see which console shows more graphical power. It’s not to say that the Wii U won’t bring out great titles, but no one is expecting it to compete with PS4 or Xbox One in raw power. Wii U’s true potential comes from the gamepad, which is its selling point. Nothing wrong with being in between. I’d be more worried if it was under, which isn’t the case. Rinslowe Totally agree. Zuxs13 I wouldn’t use this video, the guy is unprofessional and can barely even google search something, Adam Porter i really wish they’d let reggie start kicking ass and taking some names again Elitepwnsface LOL software unit Justagamer This console war stuff is for kiddies..I just want to game!..We gamer’s want to game Wombat Face Killer The UK needs to get their priorities straight they didn’t even sell that many toothbrushes this year. Guest Software units? Don’t you mean *Hardware units*? nexxus6 No, they mean number of games sold. Dave Molner lol knack sold more copies than super mario 3d world Ice Climbers The main thing that upsets me about the Wii U’s situation is how Nintendo has handled it. With the 3DS, the system sold poorly and 3rd parties canceled games and dropped support. Then 4 and a half months later, Iwata personally announced an $80 price cut, the Ambassador Program as compensation to early adopters, apologized, and then took a 50% salary cut to cushion the losses and prevent any layoffs. People said Nintendo was doomed, but Nintendo actually took action. Nintendo realized that advertising the 3D effect was pointless, so they advertised the games. They rode off of Zelda’s 25th anniversary to advertise the hell out of Ocarina of Time 3D, even having a Robin Williams commercial. For Mario Kart 7 they went to an auto show with two real-life Mario karts and advertised it. For Super Mario 3D Land they took over Times Square and turned it into a Mario level, with people dressed up as Mario in a parade. Internet ads were everywhere. They focused ALL of their resources towards 3DS games. The 3DS turned around as a result. With Wii U, Nintendo hasn’t done that. TL;DR: Nintendo took action with the 3DS and turned it around quickly. With Wii U they haven’t done that and let the situation get worse. ICHI I would like see the trends and attach rates for all of Europe country by country, I doubt it would be a lot better but I am intrigued, especially since I own a he’ll of a lot of games. I know the Wii u software in the UK was going to be poor though as its sold badly console wise here, it’s not really news is it? It’s like reporting wii owners having wii sports, or that paedos like kids! Cahone WII sUck MujuraNoKamen Absolutely abysmal!!! A steady rise these past few months is a good sign but it’s already being rivaled by XBone (after all the bad press that had) in a few weeks. LoZ4life98 Why didn’t Nintendo immediately cut Wii production so they would run into this? Arthur Jarret Yeah yeah, we know – UK has awful taste in gaming. Most UK Wii U gamers I see only play Fifa ’13 regularly – enough said. Anyway, it’s just one tiny little island. What are the numbers like for the real european region? GariNGB Don’t taint us all with the same brush. Im from the UK and i’ve never played a FIFA title on the Wii U as thats not why I bought it. I can do that on my PS3 or PS4 if I wanted to. I mainly bought my Wii U for first-party titles and then third party titles like ZombiU and stuff like that. Nice to see that we are all the same according to you. Arthur Jarret As I wrote; “MOST” UK gamers. For josé‛s sake – you guys invented the language! I didn’t come here expecting any trouble over semantics! GariNGB You do realise why a lot of people play FIFA though, right? because football (soccer) is our national sport. A bit like Madden is in the North America as that sells by the bucketload but according to some deluded individuals like yourself, thats not mentioned because its probably ok. Also, like ive said above, name me the country that sells more COD than anywhere else. It shouldn’t take you long as its the big country that is below Canada and above South America. I rest my case. Arthur Jarret Yes, because America’s favorite sport is shooting. This is why weird psychedelic-looking games score best in the Netherlands, time-based puzzle games best in Switzerland, games that allow you to become better than all NPCs without any effort whatsoever score better in France and pirate games score best in Nigeria. GariNGB What are you talking about? You still didn’t answer the question. Either that or you’re going down the racism track. Arthur Jarret Answer to the question: yes. As an answer to your ‘either that’ hypothesis – I will counter it with a question of my own: has anyone ever told you that you take the internet (comment sections and forums, specifically) way too seriously? GariNGB I can have a good discussion with anyone on forums quite easily but when people spout crap for the sake of it like you have and don’t have any evidence of it at all, I will respond to it. Simple as really. Anyway this is boring and I don’t want to fill this chat up to reply to your stupid comments and make it annoying for the genuine Nintendo fans on here that don’t want to hear your ranting about the UK being the sole reason as to why the Wii U’s sales have not been as good as expected, so I’m out. Enjoy your day. Arthur Jarret “I don’t want to fill this chat up to reply to your stupid comments” Irony. I assume this was your intent. Good job. Thank you for allowing me to ask for the data for the rest of europe and being genuinely annoyed at all mainstream media giving only UK data for the entirety of europe as it paints the console in a worse light and therefore generates more traffic. (not only eurogamer – which posted this UK only data to their localized websites too, by the way – but all media). You mis-read all my posts and then claim you are able to have discussions with others. Congratulations. I’m happy for you. Good luck with that. GariNGB How can I mis-read all your posts when you claim to know exactly, 100% that most of the UK only play COD and FIFA? Clearly you’re 100% right as nobody can disagree with anything you say by the looks of it. And you say, that I can’t have a discussion when it’s clearly you that is making up crap on the spot. Arthur Jarret I never said that. Learn to read. “Most UK Wii U gamers I see” =/= 100%. Sheesh – are you actually looking for a fight now? What’s wrong with you? And what happened to ” I don’t want to fill this chat up to reply to your stupid comments”? GariNGB Read it again for god sake. I said that you claim to know 100% that most UK gamers etc etc, not 100% of gamers. I’m done with this clown. Jeez. Arthur Jarret No, I was talking about most UK gamers THAT I SEE… I don’t know why it is so hard for you to understand this sentence. I have never mentioned 100% or any other kind of percentage. I just said: most UK gamers I see (so: the ones on my friendlist, as I cannot see what games anyone else is playing) are playing Fifa regularly. It seems like you want to be angry at me, for some reason – and try to twist my words to suit your purpose. But as you said, you’re done – right? You’re welcome to reply again despite your earlier statements, of course – I’ll gladly defend my earlier posts again at that point. Regardless – have a great night! Miiverse is booming right now, now the 3DS has joined the party – so there’s a lot of fun discussions to be had elsewhere! Rinslowe Whereas pirates in general just score better in Somalia…. 😛 MujuraNoKamen There’s some truth in that but Wii sold great here as did the DS and 3DS is performing strongly too. Wii U has CoD and AC which are popular in the UK, if Nintendo would get off its ass and tell the British public that they can have that and Nintendo’s exclusives for £100 less than a PS4 then Wii U would get off the ground like it started to do with Pikmin and WW HD here. So what if it is a tiny place? XBox and PS4 are doing well here, Nintendo would be smart to take some attention from them before they lose us completely. Wii U needs all the help it can get, regardless of how small the UK is, we can still make a difference. Arthur Jarret I was half-joking on this post though – although it does bother me that all media is posting these low numbers based on one country – while other numbers are generally posted for an etire continent. The Wii U is gaining traction in mainland europe, but there are hardly any articles online about that.. it irks me a bit. A site like eurogamer often even forgets to post euro prices and focuses solely on pounds (call yourself UKgamer then!). It’s almost like the media tends to treat UK-only data as if it were europe’s data whenever it’s convenient for them. That said: I agree with you, Nintendo seriously needs to hire another publicist in Europe. The guys handling it right now are sleeping on the job and deserve to be fired. GariNGB The reason why Eurogamer post in sterling is because its based in Brighton in the UK and the UK is in Europe. Other countries in the EU have their own sister Eurogamer site like Eurogamer.es for Spain for example. Its not rocket science that Eurogamer.com is the UK main hub. If you did a bit of research first rather than spouting crap, you would realise this. Arthur Jarret I did very little research – hence the .com where it should be .net. It’s odd that they do report on non-uk games on a regular basis (including but not limited to noting a german-only game on their ‘list of system swan songs). They also have noted euro prices without pounds a few times – so it is quite easy to be confused as to who the site’s intended audience is. (Especially as it mentions nowhere to be geared towards a UK audience only) Rinslowe Eurogamer is the embodiment of “dude bro” syndrome. And the comment section is rife with fanboys everywhere. Digital Foundry is a biased load of crap, IMO… I couldn’t stand the vibe so closed my account there and moved on. Still I’m sure some people like it. Too much MS endorsement though, every second article is Xbox One or an Xbox One title… Meh – Eurogamer…. Paladinrja Is this the same UK whoms Wii U install base is sub-250K? I dunno but that physical software attachment rate seems quite healthy to me, nothing ‘only’ about it. Gregg These past year #’s are worthless and old news. The WiiU is in a MUCH stronger position as of this fall, and going forward is what matters now. MujuraNoKamen To everyone saying the UK’s inconsequential and we only care about FIFA and CoD; there is some truth in that, CoD and FIFA may be the most popular games here but we don’t all hate Nintendo. The Wii sold great here, as did the DS, and the Gameboy etc. The 3DS is doing great in Britain too, many 3DS game have remained high on the charts for weeks at a time. Nintendo needs to actually try with Wii U now, publicise it, show that its got CoD, and it is cheap and there’s tons of exclusives. Can we stop making excuses for Nintendo please, how about we let their actions do the talking so we won’t have anything to complain about. GariNGB Spot on. The Wii for example, was the 3rd biggest hardware seller ever in the UK, so for those to say that we don’t like Nintendo or we only play COD and FIFA is not only pathetic but infuriating for those hardcore gamers like myself. Also, isn’t the biggest seller of COD in the world, North America?……but apparently only us Brits play COD. jrob23 Is Wii U daily based in England or something? Who the f cares what the sales are in a country that obviously does not care for Nintendo consoles? I mean, why not post sales from Latvia or Zimbabwe? GariNGB Clearly we don’t care about Nintendo products in the UK. I forgot the Wii only sold a few hundred – http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/xbox-360-overtakes-wii-as-the-uk-s-no-1-games-console/0117798 Also for your information, the 3DS has been selling extremely well in the UK as well. You’re right though……clearly we hate Nintendo*. *sarcasm just in case your braincell wasn’t in fully working order. jrob23 did the wii sell comfortably under the ps360? Yes, then stfu. This article is about the Wii U, which will sell even worse than the wii so even though you can cherry pick handheld sales, it doesn’t change the fact that Nintendo is dead last in sales compared to the others for consoles…yeah, consoles..the topic of this article. Weak much? GariNGB Of course I know it’s about the Wii U but you clearly stated that the UK doesn’t care about Nintendo when that’s totally wrong and you know it. UK gamers have always had a fondness with Nintendo and that will never change. Like I already said, the Wii sold like hot cakes here so that’s your theory out of the window straight away. On the case of the Wii U (like you seem to be focusing on) the sales everywhere for the console have not been great and that includes North America, Europe or Asia so by saying that the UK is responsible for poor sales alone, just shows how deluded and stupid you are. Also, if you have actually been following Nintendo news on here or any other site, you would have known by now that Wii U hardware sales have actually improves in Europe over the last 6-12 months or so you probably need to get your facts right first before crying like a little girl. jrob23 don’t be a daft cunt. when someone posts a response to an article about the Wii U and then says Nintendo it isn’t a leap to put two and two together and know he is referring to the topic of the article…the Wii U. Fact remains, the ps360 and the other next gens sell well in England because of dudebro games and Fifa…in other words, very casual gamers that like bright shiny things. Fucktards like you defend it but the numbers speak for themselves. Get bent GariNGB Wow!, nice to see insults coming out. Very mature. You really do make it sound like its Europe’s fault that the sales have not been the best that Nintendo (and us) wanted across the world. You do realise that the Wii U’s sales in North America haven’t been great either, right? Whats that down to then? Is that our fault as well? Please only reply to this if you can without shouting out immature insults as its not good for anybody. If you cant, then move on and so will I. jrob23 let’s see. You call me deluded and stupid, and say I am crying like a little girl. Then you are all of a sudden worried about name calling. Too much. You can’t make this stuff up. Anyway, I never said it was Europe’s fault. The only thing I wondered was why this site keeps posting UK sales. I still don’t know. Is it based in UK or something? Seems like I have to hear weekly how bad the Wii U is doing in the UK. Who cares? Unless of course this site is from the UK, then I guess, everyone who comes here should and shame on me. But how could I know as nobody will tell me. The dudebros don’t care about the Wii U, just like they didn’t care about the wii. That’s global. Add the love for Fifa and it isn’t surprising the Wii U isn’t selling well in Europs. The only way that could change is if EA released Fifa alongside the other consoles and it wasn’t gimped. That won’t happen. But sales are picking up in NA and hopefully Kart and Smash add more fuel as well. GariNGB If I offended you in any way then I apologise as I didn’t and don’t want to make enemies on a site in which we all share love for the Wii U. Anyway, of course I’ll admit there are too many casuals in the UK but there are plenty that are like myself that love Nintendo and always will. At the end of the day, we all want the best for the Wii U and that’s something we can agree on. It’s improving on a daily basis in all counties by the sounds of it and with the likes of Mario Kart and Smash Bros on the way early next year, it’s going to get even better. Again, I apologise if you were offended but it was one of those moments that got the best of me. Cat42 Sadly, it’s easy to post UK figures to sensationalise the Wii U’s difficulties for the sake of a few extra views. There have been a number of articles around the web that have focused on the UK figures, likely posted for that very reason. The ‘PS4 outselling Wii U lifetime sales in 48 hours in the UK’ has been copy-pasted from site to site. So has the ‘Mediocre Knack outselling High Quality Super Mario 3D World in the UK’ article. None of them balance it out by quoting figures from other regions, nor do they speculate as to why the situation in the UK exists. It’s not that UK gamers don’t care for Nintendo consoles – (2.4 million 3DS’s and 8.7 Wii’s owned in the UK can attest to the fact that we do care – a lot!) – it’s just that there’s close to zero advertising and product awareness for the Wii U. Wii U’s weak sales over here is nobody’s fault, except Nintendo’s. I sure hope they’ll do something about it. IcyCatt We’re beating PS4 in sales this month… so that’s really something. Shaggyrastaman The Wii U outsold the PS4 last week in North America… http://www.vgchartz.com/ Cat42 I don’t know how old that data is. It was published prior to PS4 launch in the UK which was on Nov 29. Note the title ‘Est. UK software sales, Retail only’. Do we take that to mean ‘Estimated’? OK, so it’s retail only, and I’m not sure if VGChartz includes downloaded games, but what I’m seeing on VGChartz as at 30th November is a completely different picture: UK software sales: Wii U – 893k PS4 – 485k XOne – 523k UK hardware sales: Wii U – 201k PS4 – 246k XOne – 179k That’s approximately 4 games per Wii U, 2 games per PS4 and 3 games per XOne. And for comparison – Global software sales: Wii U – 13.8 million PS4 – 5.1 million XOne – 4.4 million Global hardware sales: Wii U – 4.3 million PS4 – 2.1 million XOne 1.5 million That’s 3 games per Wii U, 2 games per PS4 and 3 games per XOne. Oh look. UK gamers own more Wii U games per Wii U than the whole world on average, and more games per console than PS4 and XOne. Granted, the latter is likely due to a better library and 12 month head-start, but it looks like Wii U owners in the UK are more passionate about their games than the sensational headline claims. I guess it all depends on how accurate the source is.
