Aug 28th, 2012

The first mention of a November 18 release date for the Wii U was done by us here at Wii U Daily back in April, and since then numerous reports have all but confirmed this date. The latest to rumor to suggest a November 18 Wii U release date comes from accessory maker PDP, which said its accessories would be available for Wii U launch on November 18. However, the company quickly backtracked, saying the “release date” was meant for accessories for the upcoming Epic Mickey 2: The Power of 2, which is set to hit the stores on the same day. The news was leaked at a GameStop managers conference, which already has Wii U banners up (see image below).

Everything we’ve heard so far has indicated that the Wii U release date will be set in November. Last month, two game publishers hinted at a Wii U launch in November for their games: SEGA hinted with Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed, and D3 Publisher hinted for Rise of The Guardians.

Nintendo is set to announce the Wii U release date, price, and launch lineup on September 13. Until then, we expect the rumors to keep rolling in until Nintendo makes it official.

  • rob lucci

all we know is it might be released in either sept, oct, nov,or decmember.

    • Starfoxguy

I’m gonna say Nov. Nintendo always released their home consoles in November.

      • nintedward

why did you have to take my october dream and throw it out the window dude 😛 !!!!

        • wii u bombshell maker

i believe that it will be october 8… because i visited the ubisoft website… it says on the us version of the site that just dance 4 will be released on the wii u on october 8th

      • Gregory

No they haven’t. The only 2 home consoles to launch in November were the Gamecube and Wii. Everything before that was in August or September or something

        • D2K

          NES – October
          SNES – August
          N64 – August
          GameCube – November
          Wii – November

I say November 18th. It’ll capitalize on Black Friday and build up hype for the system for the holidays.

          • 345weas

yes in america that no one cares about

    • AKA-Link77

      september: no, WAY too early.
      October: still too early.
November: Seems perfect for most people. 😀 🙂
December: too late. There will be alot of last minute situations b4 X-Mas…

      • BananaPwnz

Gonna have to agree with u, November is perfect

        • mkdhdh

          october is even perfect-erererererer(not a word…)
then we get to play it even faster 😀

    • fedster

i heart ur name and one piece 🙂

    • Fukaku

When Rob Lucci talks everybody listens.

  • Shankovich

Ha, that’ll keep the 5-year rule in check then.

    • XDLugia

    • nintedward

wont the wii have been out for 6 years hasent it . by november ?

      • LyingTuna

No, the Wii came out on the 19th. The Wii U comes out on the 18th. It would be 5 years and 364 days.

  • ikechukwu

Do we need reminding of the date. Rumor or not it is set to happen. Go nintendo go november.

  • maveric-hunter

hahaha take that sony and microsoft even though you have a date/price/line up you wont have the time to fix your prices mwuahaha nintendo is going to blow these two companies out of the water this up coming holiday.

    • PridgMSS

Ya know, as a person who appreciates all three companies (and PC)… I hate fanboys in general.

      • Mac

lol i feel you on that one but i don’t think he’s a fanboy.

      • Kyron

“Hate” is a very strong word. So is “fanboy”

      • Watch_Dog

Me too, I really hate fanboys. When ever something negative comes up people trash the news. When something positive comes up they trash the other companies. I’m a gamer and love any game that it is good, for any console. The Wii had only a few good titles. Most games for Wii barely made use of the movement meaning you could just use the Wiimote and Nunchuck as you would a controller. The Wii didn’t do it for me, but I loved the games that I did play.

      • Ekayode7

YOU know Nintendo is better :>

      • NoPUNintendo

Love your comment. It is true, all major gaming companies are great in there own ways. I myself see Microsofts Xbox systems as my least favorite, but I still love many things about them. Same goes for the Playstations, love so much about it, but that doesn’t make it perfect. Same for the Wii, it’s not without its flaws. Heck, honestly, I’m wondering what the flaws of the Wii U will be. Yes I’ll buy it day one, but I’m wondering what things will suck about the Wii U…

        • TheBoldman67

Probably just some games and a few missed chances of integrating the gamepad in some games

      • theorangefish

You are right there are many Fanboys on wiiudaily Pikas, xbots, sonydrones and some pc guys

      • revolution5268

tell me about it, but when i defend a company even though i like and hate, the called me a fanboy or even a white knight(whatever that means)

    • Shortwood

In terms of sales they already did. Either way, I enjoy all three systems (and PC/Mac and handheld :-p)

    • ninjabake

You should humble yourself. Were all excited for the Wii U but that doesn’t mean we should be bashing other companies.

  • LordFenixNC

I am hoping its in Nov. and i hope the black Friday papers get leaked… so i can decided to buy day of or wait for black Friday bundles

  • NintendoLover

Quote from the article: Nintendo is set to announce the Wii U release date, price, and lunch lineup on September
    lunch lineup!!!?? LOL hahahahahahahaha

    • Wii U Daily

Yes, lunch lineup includes sandwiches, sodas, and cupcakes 🙂

      We’ve fixed the typo, thanks!

  • AKA-Link77

I doubt december will be the launch month considering EU is said to have it delayed to that month, so that implies that its B4 Dec. everywhere else.
Dec. is also too late cuz advertising wont be up very long for stores, consumers and their holiday shopping-rage. November seems just right for ADs and consumers. And the Wii U may make Black Friday. . . tho the price wont go down for the beast, this is when most ppl shop and burn money usually for Christmas. As for October. . . . that may be a little early and we may have a pre-mature console at birth.

  • Lamsaturn

November sounds feasible. It’s the “Holiday” season, (Nintendo said it would be Holiday before) it’s just before Black Friday, and Nintendo often releases their home consoles in November.

    Plus, my birthday’s in November.
    Make it happen. 😐

  • u mad bro

November 18…the day the WiiU will rock the world!

  • derty

“Nintendo is set to announce the Wii U release date, price, and lunch lineup on September 13… ”

I wonder what’s for lunch lol
Start proof reading ur shiz before making it public WiiUDaily writers…

  • Ekayode7

they started then Sony and micro copied
Nintendo do it as a living

  • Azael

I’m kind of desperate!! Can’t wait till September 13 🙂

    • Wii U Daily

It’ll be here faster than you can say “Michael Pachter” backwards.

  • SuperShyGuy

What gamestop is that? In the picture.

  • Macarony64

i want to like the comments but i cant cause pc broke 🙁 but ican see the news on my 3ds so thats good

    • Nintendonoob

I do that all the time

  • Madmagican

I just hope that Nintendo gives us the release date in time for everyone to prepare, I don’t want what happened to the 3ds happen to the WiiU; you know, didn’t turn as high a profit at first because the public had no time to prepare for it. I want the WiiU to take out any doubts the haters ever had

    • Nintendonoob

      dont we all?

  • Zhenya

if they release the console on the day of black friday…all hell will break loose

  • Nintendonoob

Wii U staff… you spelled launch wrong… you said lunch

    • Wii U Daily

Oops! Thanks for letting us know.

  • King rat

A rather pointless article reporting nothing that this very website hadn’t stated already really.

I am just gonna wait and see and get it no matter what, even if I have to knock out a grandma getting one for her grand kids…don’t believe everything you read people.

  • videogamer1

the U will be coming on november 18th–it’s guaranteed! the sept 13 press event cant come soon enough; although it shouldn’t have taken Nintendo a whole year to try to figure out a launch date and price!!!???!!!

  • crapcake

hey does anybody have NSMB2 i have 67,000 coins

  • AwayToHit

  • Spence

I think the later, the better, so i can have more time to pay for the preorder.

  • koopa killer

I almost have 300,000. Coin rush is the way to go. Love Nintendo!!!!!! This game is keeping me busy until Sept. 13

  • MujuraNoKamen

Sounds very likely. They’ll want to release the Wii U in time for the Christmas rush that picks up around November, as well as the fact that Nintendo always releases their consoles on a Sunday. Not to mention doesn’t the biggest shopping day of the year come just after Nov 18th? The fact that PDP announced that date then quickly tried to change the topic implies that they realised they messed up and publicized secret information, naturally they’re going to deny the Nov 18th release date now otherwise they’ll basically be saying “yes we screwed and let slip secret information” that’s something they wont want to admit also, if they did confirm it then there wouldn’t be much point in the September conference would there? And on that note is that a Wii U exclusive conference or will it include 3DS news as well? I ask because that new Zelda game is taking its time and there are yet more rumours about a Majora’s Mask 3DS remake (some very similar to this unintentional reveal of Wii U details) Can you tell I’m a Zelda fan? XD.

  • The Baconater

It will be Dec. 21 2012. Becauase that’s when people realize the world is coming to an end once you stop playing it. The wii u would make the world around us look depressing how good it is :3

  • SteampunkJedi

As long as it’s released a good amount before Christmas, I’ll be fine with it. But I think releasing it before Black Friday would be a good business move.

  • maxlazy10

    The sooner the better.

  • ineedawiiuNOW

    and the rumor was correct
