Another day, another analyst with opinions on the Wii U. This time, it comes from Jesse Divnich out of EEDAR, who believes that Nintendo will announce a Wii U price and release date in September. His reasoning is that Nintendo is holding back on the Wii U price announcement because of Microsoft and Sony. Those two companies will almost certainly drop the price of their consoles in response to the Wii U, but can’t do so until Nintendo reveals the Wii U price. Currently the cheapest Xbox 360 retails at $200, while the cheapest PS3 costs $250. The Wii U is expected to cost no more than $250, according to various sources.

Wii U price revealWe’ve previously heard from Nintendo that they expect the Wii U price announcement to come this Fall, but gave no specifics details. It’s easy to understand why Nintendo are keeping their cards close to their chest — as soon as the price is announced, Microsoft and Sony will respond with price cuts on their current gen consoles. That’s just the nature of the consumer electronics business. But Nintendo knows the price is much more important for another reason: selling consoles. The market isn’t what it used to be when the Wii launched back in 2006, and Nintendo knows this. Recently, president Satoru Iwata said that it was much more important to price the Wii U right than being first on the market. Which brings us to an interesting question: how important is the Wii U price to you? What’s the maximum you’d pay for a Wii U console? Let us know in the comments section!

The highest I would pay is $450… I would love to pay only $300 or less, that way I can buy more games. Buy my Wii U fund is ready to be spent.

    • Wii Uoops!

Lucky me, I can sell my Wii because I don’t have any WiiWare titles.

      • swic11

I have two Wii’s my fiance had one before we got together, and I had one as well. So I will be keeping mine to play gamecube games with. So I am set.

        • SanPharaoh

I hope they make GC games downloadable via the Nintendo Network.

          • Leonardo

they will, i know it ๐Ÿ™‚

          • HmmChunkyLizard

Nintendo stated that Gamecube games will be available for download via the Nintendo store on the virtual console.

          • Superobed

Yeah Super Mario Sunshine and Mario Kart Double Dash would be the games i would definitely buy.

      • Alienfish

Sorry, it looks like someone has decided they like my username. The comment I am replying to is not mine.

    • Wildman

My guess is $349 or less. $329 maybe?

    • pach

$250 or we will see the 3DS movie again. Srsly, it is gonna fail if Nintendo set it higher than that. Nintendo NEED to make it cheap to blow away MS and sony price cut moves.

    • floydfan

This is NOT a “Next Genn” console. Anything over $300 would be tragic.

      • floydfan is a fail

Never say never taht the wii u is not next gen. Asshole.

    • falb

hey look im at the top

    • bigman

wii u should be released at sep 22 on saturday. kids will have something to do on the weekend on school days, plus the makers of wii u would get more money

  • Wirby

The most I would pay is $400, but anything less then that would be great.

    • gNat

      max 300

  • Acid

The maximum i’ll pay is $400.. but I know it will not be priced that high, so ill be getting the Wii U either way, with some games and controllers.

  • Vulture

I hope the pricetag will be around 350 $. That would in my opinion be a reasonable price for a new gen console with a tablet controller.

    • Steve Jobs

omg they said no more than 250 bucks.

      • fedster

he obviously meant no LESS than 250 bucks

        • Aenifer

Seventh row: “The Wii U is expected to cost no more than $250, according to various sources.”

  • Jerm949

$300 would be my limit, but it has to be black and have big Gb availability

    • HardcoreNintyFan

I’m guessing by Gb you are talking about the hard drive, right? It’s rumored to only have 8GB of flash storage but is expandable by using an SD card or an external hard drive. So if you already have a external hard drive, you’re good to go.

    • Dan10254

I’m not american, but I hope it stays in 300 too.

  • Iprino

250.00 for Wii U means I get to buy more games than originally planned. I am already planning on spending 500 at launch.

  • Christian

I’d be comfortable paying $300 because of its controller and the cpu on the U.

  • SpookYLoGiC

Honestly i would pay any price under $400.

  • FennexFox

For once, an analyst that actually makes sense! As for me, It’s important to have that perfect price for the Wii U and I would pay at least $300 for it.

  • NameUcan’thate

The price doesn’t matter. It’s Nintendo. We’ve already seen the power behind this thing, and all the great games lined up. Even if the price exceeds 300 dollars, i’ll be willing to pay for it. Anyways, first day customer for me!

  • Cedric

$250-$350. Anything higher is too much of a risk.

  • DerikGotro64

Id be perfect with $300 to 350. What ever they price it at is fine with me.

  • Eddy120876

I pray to God that it lower then 350. That will help us and Nintendo to carve a big swat on the console market price. Go Nintendo Go!

  • Blade

If it costs $250, I feel like I would be ripping Nintendo off!

    • Eddy120876

Don’t feel bad bud. 250 is a reasonable price but they can recuperate the money with Wiiwares etc

      • Eddy120876

so a vote down because i said “Nintendo can recuperate some of the money they might lose and keep afloat by selling wiiwares” Really are the cheapskates that hard press?

        • Aenifer

I agree with what you said, but i have one word for you: fanboys.

  • Atticus

I would pay up to $500 for one… I know it can’t/won’t be that high, but I would go that high for this. I think the smartest move would be for Nintendo to go for a $299 price point. $249 is too cheap in my opinion. It makes the console look cheap and it makes it look even MORE like a Wii 2.0, which turns people off. Nintendo obviously has to be very careful, but I think that if someone is going to buy it for $249, then they’d certainly shell out the extra $50… Which is less than the price of a single game.

  • Anhell

My limit is 400 but if the Wii U is more expensive (like 50 dollars more) I would buy it anyway ๐Ÿ˜€

    • rafael

So, i guess you are saying your limit is 450 hehe ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Mid-core Gamer

$600 is the limit for me although I don’t really have a limit since I’m planning on getting it no matter what the price is.

  • Zeldazero

It is Nintendo, I’d pay $1,000 if needed. I’d pay more if they had finally made Final Fantasy 7 with updated graphics exclusively for Wii U. I’d give anything to bring back turn-based JRPG’s and stop all this real-time battle system crap. Just give me a date and I’ll pre-purchase immediately, I already have 4 games pre-purchased.

    • Disciplelicious

I’d pay $1,000 for it, too! I mean, come on! It’s Nintendo! But I realize not everyone feels this way. I have 4 preordered as well. In my eyes, it’s pretty much only an RPG if it’s a JRPG.

  • Garzard

    $250.00 or I’m screwed

    • Raul

Your screwed. You want it to be under 250 with better graphics than last gen and a magnificent controller with a touch screen? 250, that feels like I’m stealing from Nintendo honestly. 300-350 is ideal and reasonable.

      • joe

I was just thinking about that…$250 for all that is kinda crazy… I have to wonder if a realistic price is $299-350. Just that controller would be, what, $89 on it’s own?

      • Aenifer

So because you think it feels like stealing from Nintendo, and that 300-350 is an ideal and reasonable price, he is screwed?

        • Raul

No, I’m saying if he expects it cost 250, he is screwed. Clearly that is what he said. “250 or I’m screwed”. And by that comment, I feel like that is such a low expectation, 250. What do you honestly believe it will cost?

          • Aenifer

Got your point. I really don’t know how much it will cost, i just hope the price won’t be too high because i want to buy more than one game and a pro controller.

    • joe

      Hear ya…maybe a $279 price point….I can see that.

  • SteampunkJedi

I don’t know a perfect price, but $350 sounds reasonable to me. Anything higher might make it a little less reasonable, but of course this all depends on the still mysterious specs. I hope it to be a practical day one buy.

  • jc100x

Even if the Wii U is priced at $250 , or an even a ridiculosy $200 , will still cost $300 or more on average, considering alot of people, including myself, will want the classic controller, which aint included with system, (aint playin mass effect 3,black ops, batman, etc, on a tablet,) or maybe 2 classic controllers for multiplayer. Some will even want 2 tablet controllers. Then there’s memory storage upgrades to consider. One or 2 games, your lookin at 4-$500 possibly. This is actually true of all the consoles. When the 360 came out , i paid over $600 for system, 1 extra controllers, 2 games and a memory card. Despite the fact the console alone was 3-400 depending what model you had. Now is a good time to build up a re-loadable gift card at GameStop, Best Buy, where ever, cause when Wii U launches, $250, or $300 aint gonna get you %$!! Nintendo, release the damn price already. In an era of economic turmoil, a little preparation will contribute to a more successful launch.

  • gPadWatcher

The comfort zone for the price of the Wii U is between $299.99 and $399.99. If it’s in between, it’s a must buy!

    • Aenifer

If it’s below it’s not a must buy? Because for you it’s the price that decides if it’s a must buy?

      • Raul

What he means is he believes that it will not be below 300 as many others believe. You seem to have trouble misunderstanding users.

        • Aenifer

I understood what gPadWatcher said in a another way. According to what he/she wrote, he/she will buy the Wii U according to the price. That’s why i asked him/her if itโ€™s the price that decides if itโ€™s a must buy.

No i don’t have problem misunderstanding users, i have problems understanding them. xD

  • 007 1/2

I would pay 300 but it will probably be from 200 to 275 dollars

  • jose

I think 350$ is a good price for the Wii u. I will buy it if cost like this or less.

  • l0l

I’m throwing my money at the screen but nothing is happening?! Shut up and take my money!

    • joe

You get a thumbs up from me. I admire your willingness to destroy your monitor without a care in the world just for a WiiU!

  • Mr.device

Maximum? I think around 400$ but I would like it at 300$-350$. But that’s just my thoughts on it. xP

  • mac

only 250 at most? i dont mind that price at all i actually love it helps me alot but i would rather pay 300 for the technology that is put into the wii u i no that sounds crazy but i would feel like i helping nintendo out alot more paying 300 than 250 thats just me im sure this will get lots of boos lol

  • ozl

I would pay up to 300 for the console with the Mini Games

  • HardcoreNintyFan

I’m prepared to throw down $500 to get a Wii U, but I’m pretty certain it won’t cost more than $400. Like people are saying $300 to $400 seems to be the range of where the price will land. I think my budget overall will be around $600, enough for the system, 2 or 3 games, and maybe enough for one of the Pro controllers, although I plan to always use the Gamepad. I already have an external hard drive that I can use, so I’m good there. I’ll also have to get an HDMI cable since I doubt that Nintendo will include one.

    • Superobed

I don’t know why but i am almost certain it will include an HDMI cable because you know how much nintendo cares about their gaming community unlike sony and microsoft who include a crappy AV cable

  • Death

I would pay up to 400$. Including games and the pro controller, I’l probably reach that price lol

  • RonaldCoLtd

Lucky for me, my handy dandy allowance savings equal 2 Wii Us. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Roouth

I live in Germany and I have already pre ordered the console from Amazon.

The price was 350 Euros (400(?) Dollars)
And the Release Date the 21st of December 2012.

These Information are just place-holder and I think Nintendo will price the Wii U at 300 Euros (350(?) Dollars)

    So Far

  • Claudio

Man I don’t care how much it cost as long as it comes soon

  • logan7699

$550 is my limit….unless it was like a bundle with pro controller, Nintendoland, and New S Mario WiiU, and a large hard-drive..

  • Franc

$400 is my limit and I hope that I could get the Wii U plus 2 games for that amount. I would spend $100 more for the upgrades if I find it necessary but $400 will do.

  • SuperShyGuy

    $300 is what I hope

  • AwayToHit

$300 max…if its higher, i’ll wait for a price drop and more games ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Souljaboyalex

nitendo wii u will start the new season of gaming like zombiu i would buy a wii u to play that so i would pay 300 + 300 just to got the wii u for zombi u

  • logan7699

My guess is two versions standard system with 8gb flash is $299
and a pro-unit with 8gb flash and a 500gb usb hard drive, and a pro controller
$379 and that pro unit is mine on launch.. both versions have Nintendo land with them

  • Claudio

What Nintendo needs to do is release the wii u soon because if they don’t people are going to buy the ps3 because of price cuts and if they do they won’t want the wii u anymore because they already have a system that is new to them

  • King Boo

seem legit between 200-250, people aren’t going 2 buy 2 high with the economy right now. plus when ssb4 comes people r going 2 buy the system anyway

  • Andy j

The days of ยฃ400 consoles is gone. No-one will pay anymore than ยฃ250 now. Sony I mean you ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Come at me bro

    Better not be $299.00

  • Dmonkeyman

I think $ 300 dollars Is the most reasonable im still hoping for 250 though.

  • gearchin

i think, most people would pay 350$ at most, but for me i would pay between 300 to 350 for it!

  • rafael

Whatever they price it, its going to 1000+ ”reais”, wich is braziliam money, what makes his braziliam price equivalent to 500+ dollars… (when the first Wii was released, you could not find it for less then 2.000 reais, wich is roughly 1.000 dollars!)

The reason for this is that we have too many taxes here and we dont manufacture…unless nintendo does some kind of new deal to sell it cheaper here.

Ive seem Reggie saying that he sees Brazil as his secong bigger market in the Americas in the future, so things could get better for us here.

  • leo

250 to 300 dollars would be nice

  • mago

I want it to be $250, I’m thinking it going to between $300-$350. However Im willing to pay up to $500

  • YaX

    MAX 300$

  • SanPharaoh

I would be pay 400, but I’m guessing 300 to 350. We’re talking about a tablet controller. That thing can’t be cheap.

  • Darksasuke75

I honestly thing that Nintendo should have a more casul version at launch for $299.99 in black or white with a 8gb hardrive but then have a “hardcore fan” version for $349.99 that comes with a Wii U Pro controller, Nintendo Land, and a 20gb hardrive. I say this so it’s fair and people who just want it for family interaction and play accasionally can buy it for cheaper and people who love games and Nintendo can pay more and get more. What do you guys think!? I would pay $300-$350 for the Wii U, it sounds reasonable to me.

  • pikapower0000

are you kiddin me, no more than 250??????????????????????????/ maybe no more than 350

    • Leonardo

      250 us $ is 1 517 kr (norwegian money)

i make 543 after 2 hours of cleaning some offices. after three sessions, i have a wii u. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Leonardo

  • Leonardo

    399.- us $ is a sound victory

    • Leonardo

      the ps3 was 992.- us$ in norway (2006)

  • NintendoLover

I am hoping for the to be either $300 or $350 I don’t care how much hard drive there is cuz I have got a 640 GB external hard drive that I could use for the Wii U. Go Nintendo!!!!!!

  • Brentmeister General

I’d easily pay 300-350 instead of 250 for hardware that would make it a more towards “next gen”. I’d even be willy to pay an extra 20 bucks just to get the classic controller with it from the start.

Innovation is needed nowadays to be on top. Just look at apple. I just don’t hope that it means nintendo is spending all the money on research, and none on hardware. Because after all, it’s the games your after. When the console is starting to miss out of 3rd party titles because the hardware is too weak, I’d say you made a mistake.

Might be tempting to release it cheap and the sales started with a kick start, but in the long run I think they’d benefit from not seting the price too low. Just look at ps360, they’re catching up. The productioncosts will sink with time as well.

  • The Beeshnu

The picture of the Wii U
IT doesn’t matter if your black or white

  • hunter santana

price is what completely makes my . the most i would pay for the console is 250 im only 13 money doesnt come that easy to me. also another question games wll still remain at 60-50 dollars right?

    • Disciplelicious

Yes, games will most likely be $60. They were $50 on Wii; a $10 increase is the price we pay for HD. Oh, well. Love the company!

  • Kirby

I want that black and white wiiU in the picture

  • conker

    $499…i’m very rich…. I’ll buy two.

  • Elcaras1

299 to 399 be ok in between great but i would pre order the bundle if its 499 no problem including a biger hardrive nintendolan te tablet a wii monition plus or pro controler!!!!

  • sethlaw225

$400 to $450 would be maximum without a doubt

  • Shankovich

400$ US if Iwata expects to keep his “…Wii U won’t have as large of a hardware gap” claim.

  • JAK013

I think it should be 250 or lower because if its to high know ones gonna buy it in g r

  • Kronecker

Despite being a longtime nintendo fan, it’s hard (as a poor college student) to want to pay anything over $200 for a new system, especially as I got a xbox 360 for free with my new laptop. All I see right now are 360 ports for the wiiu. Maybe when a 3-d mario or fresh zelda shows up in 18 months….

  • Wii u crazer

The maximum I would pay for the wii u is $250 or &200

  • Dytonics

Well its very important for Nintendo to get a good price on it or the console could be doomed.

  • Hi8us

If Nintendo ships the Wii U console and gamepad packaged with a pro controller and a copy of nintendoland also, I could easily see the price being around $400. They could of course sell a bare bones package with just the console and gamepad for around $300 to $350.

  • seph.t

anything that has “analyst” in the first sentence is just not worth reading

  • manson

I willing to spend $400.00 if it comes with one game

  • Jannie Wildeman

With the right game (Zelda of course) i’m willing to pay 300 dollar, but i think it wil cost no more than 250.

Met de juiste game (Zelda natuurlijk) wil ik 300 dollar betalen, maar ik denk dat het niet meer gaat kosten dan 200.

  • Wii u fan

I would pay a max of $299 because I also need to buy the games like Mario and zombi u

  • HmmChunkyLizard

Even though the Wii U will be full HD and considering the PS3 is the cheapest current gen console at $250 and that there won’t be that many good games at launch for it, I highly doubt that many people will pay more than $300 for it. I personally won’t pay more than $250 for the WII U, as The PS3 in my opinion is the best console out right now and that is what I paid for it.

    • GalaxyWaffles

Sure go buy a last gen console. Not that many Launch titles? They haven’t even announced them all yet! Also the majority of launch titles for Wii U are pretty good.

      300 isn’t even that much! You’re just cheap -.-

  • Adam

ยฃ289.99 pounds in the uk ๐Ÿ™‚

  • yk_nintendo

250 euro’s should be a nice price for what U get.

  • Paul

im expecting the wii u to cost under ยฃ300 due to no hard drive

would go upto ยฃ400 with 3 games and pro controller

  • Nillion

For me am willing to pay up to $1,000.

  • GalaxyWaffles

I say 260 or 270. Those are the prices in between 250 and 300.

  • BluChuChu

“the cheapest PS3 costs $250.” Gamestop sells 20 gb ps3 systems for $199.99…

  • ChristianMetalMan99

  • ninjabake

I think $299 is the sweet spot most next Gen consoles are that price launch day (360, PS2, Xbox, PS1 etc.) Although its not farfetched to believe Nintendo will release the Wii U @ the same price the current Gen systems are at (remember what the dreamcast did @ launch? Yeah, and it worked.) So who knows right now its a waiting game but ill pick up the Wii U regardless cuz I wanna support Nintendo and their creativity.

  • Enigmatic

    • jamin

ahaha, yeah. me too. i have no money! probably ’cause i’m 13… but it’s whatever…

wii is really good console but bad controller why nintendo dont give us like gamecube controller now gamepad, now i dont play nintendo again except 3ds

    • jamin

you obviously don’t like innovation or creativity… but i guess that’s your problem.

  • Freak From Outer Space

$300. NO more. (Well Maybe a LITTLE bit more… Just a bit higher… just a bit higher… It can’t hert me to pay just that little bit more for the future.)

  • Oscar

    i’ll pay $300 for it

  • john

289.00 max or ninty will fall down to its knees! oh and to touch on 3ds xl i will not buy it because they did not incorporate the second circle pad. maybe next year when they release 3ds xl pro lol!

  • Ninty1

would Nintendo expect Sony or Microsoft to release it’s new console the next day after Nintendo says this?

  • MrK

I would only pay infinity dollars and infinity cents but no more than that because i am a cheep ba$trd

  • nor

I can pre order now for 662 $. That’s Norway.

  • Crapcake

Why is almost everyone saying 350? that should be the price if it’s bundled with a good game

  • Nate

No more than 400 dollars would be my price range. I think they will price it far lower though so they can compete directly with the expected price dropped PS3 and 360.

  • Jed

    $350. with a game,of your choice, included

  • romane

about $250 for a wii u?! Thats dumb!

  • romane

if they they don’t drop the price I’ll be mad!

  • Noah J.L.

I don’t give a flying F*** what the price is! I JUST WANNA KNOW WHEN IT COMES OUT!

  • jp

I guess I’m one of the only ones completely on the fence here. I refuse to pay over $250. When I factor tax in I guess that’s $275. I’d MUCH prefer $200 but I don’t see that happening. It would be a smart move though. I can say if it were $200 I’d buy it without a hint of hesitation but at $250 I’m really gonna have to think about it.

  • kirby

    my limit is $350

  • James

The most I’d pay is $250, any more than that, and I’d just get an Xbox 360. Simple as that, since the Wii pushed away hardcore gamers, they need something to bring them back in. Right now, that’s the only thing stopping me from getting the 360, the Wii U COULD be as good and cost $50-$75 less, as the average Xbox 360 costs $250

  • BananaPwnz

    I think $300 is a perfect price

  • wii u rocks

my max would be $350. also i was wondering does wii u play regular wii games???

  • Haza

    The price should be $200

  • romane

even if they dropped it down to $200 ,it would cost more than the 3ds.

  • romane

even so, the price should be between $170 to 190.thats better then having the wii u in $200 or $250.

  • Mario 64

romane is right. James idea is good too, but nintendo wouldn’t make the price $50 or $75 or in between. It’s because it will still be new.

  • romane

oh yeah,on nintendo e-shop they say that the wii u is coming in the holidays.but i’m not sure if their telling the truth.

  • wii u fan

I cant buy the wii u for more than $500 and the best price for me will be $200

  • PenguinGames

    Never more than $315. Never.
