Mega retailer Walmart will be hosting a midnight launch event for the Wii U at its stores. Walmart aren’t the only ones, as GameStop usually has midnight launches for new consoles and highly anticipated video games. It unlikely that all of Walmart’s many stores throughout the US will have host the launch event, but most of the stores are open 24/7 anyway.

The news was revealed via a document sent to Walmart stores, which also revealed that Walmart will be receiving Wii U consoles on November 14-16, just a few days before launch. You can check out the store document below, which confirms that customers can reserve a Wii U console until November 1:

Walmart Wii U

The Wii U is expected to be in short supply at launch, as the console has sold out of pre-orders everywhere, including Walmart. Other retail and electronics stores such as GameStop, Best Buy, and Target are expected to host midnight launch events at selected stores throughout the US. The console launches on November 18, just about a month from now.

UH oh not good, greedy people plz dont buy 2 wii u’s

    • joesatmoes

lol i remember even in 2008, not 2006, there were so many ppl who wanted to buy the Wii at the local target, my dad wanted to get 2 just to sell 1 on ebay for the price of like a car or something. the guy there said you can only get one. so i think that’s what will happen- so chill bro!

    • ziggy

idk something tells me wii u is going to suck when new ps4 and xbox comes out that will force nintendo to put a stronger system out hopefully they got there shit together on the wii u vrs the wii the wii was a huge upset im 35 i want adult games not kid games like nintendo land are you kidding me! and nowhere have i seen a wii u demo unit in any stores time will tell if nintendo can save themselves

      • Sour grape!

An u think sony will release a console that will wipe it out? r u nuts sony in the biggest debt they have ever had all because of the ps vita lack luster flop and ps3 has only picked up in sales this year and last year, i really don’t think sony will have the money to release a powerhouse of a console wen there stuck with the stuff they have now… Wii u will succeed not like the wii did but some where around the GC and the Wii, the next generations consoles will be Wii U, Xbox 720 (Durango) and Ouya…

        • mojojojo888

To be fair, Sony is not in a terrible position because of the Vita and PS3, they are in that position because of a variety of bad decisions over the last 10 years, such as trying to push proprietary formats on consumers at a premium. Vita and PS3 were just 2 problems in a vat of bad decisions, and based on the way it looks now it doesn’t look like they are on track to make any real good decisions or products anytime soon…

          • MujuraNoKamen

True, it’s not just the PS3 and PSV that put them in the deep s**t they’re in now. But in terms of gaming all their recent operations have been a bad move financially, PS3 entered the market at $600 and though it certainly hasn’t been a flop, the price means it gets beaten by the 360 and the Wii – Even after they cut the PS3s price it’s still being beaten in sales figures. It’s also being sold at a huge loss – each PS3 costs around $1,000 to make and the whole of Sony’s PS3 operations didn’t make a profit until 2010. Also the Vita is being pounded by 3DS in terms of sales, I’m not sure how much they make in profit/loss with Vita but it’s going nowhere for them, and they refuse to cut the price (the decision that led to 3DS becoming a hit & even outperforming the DS’s first year of sales in a shorter space of time) even Sony (not really considered to be kind or modest) themselves admit they’re struggling to find support for Vita.
And how did Move work out for Sony? nowhere near what the Wii had, which is what they were aiming for.
As you said it’s not just because of PS3 and PS Vita that they’re in a bad situation but in terms of gaming, all they’re recent decisions have been bad and are partly responsible. If they want to compete & keep their heads above water they’re going to have to change something, and when you consider that they’re recent consoles (PS3 and V) are the most powerful out of the competition, and are also the worst in terms of financial/market success, then they’re going to have make “weaker” hardware to stay afloat it seems. they simply cant afford to make a powerhouse console like PS3 anytime soon, it’ll kill them.

        • BCphoton

Sony is just a bunch of Nintendo copycats. Look at the “Magic Ball” remote! Is it just me, or does is look awfully similar to the Wiimote? They even made nunchucks, steering wheels to put it in, and crossbow/guns to put it in too. And now, the PS4 is going to have a screen on the controller!

          • Mystery_fish67

I wonder if you realize that they were going nowhere without making the nun chuck like controller for move and the magic ball looks nothing like the wiimote I mean absolutely nothing similar the size and shape are different and the wiimote has no glowing ball on top songs gaming is dying but they are more than just gaming in fact they are mostly not gaming they have been around awhile and been in big debts before they are still gonna come back from this

          • Mystery_fish67

The question is who realeased the first dual analog controllers and who created the bet selling console of all time I like Nintendo a lot but Sony is still really good and better than Xbox in stats not sales but stats are all better

      • Djs

well when they will release their consol nintendo will slap them in their faces with a new zelda and a metroid game ,im pretty sure thats what they are planning to do .Thats why we havent heard of the “big” games from nintendo yet ๐Ÿ˜›

        • goginho

Yea you said it man ..just wait and see how 2014 looks for the WiiU, as for ziggy, according to my logic, I’m pretty sure ZombiU, and Call of Duty are not kid’s games. Please click on the Wii U –> Games link up above before making a bold statement like that next time ..jus sayin

          • NintendoMan :D

2013 and 2014 are going to be VERY interseting years fo the video game market.

        • JumpMan

don’t forget a 3D Mario! those are huge butt-kickers too.

        • MujuraNoKamen

Damn straight, even when Ninty’s consoles lack support I still play them more than anything else because of the epic Zeldas and Metroids etc. But the problem I see is at E3, Microsoft is likely to unveil the next XBox (PS4 is unlikely) if Nintendo announces their top Wii U games along side it, they’re going to be overshadowed by the new console. i don’t want to be negative but what needed to be done was to get their top IPs out before everyone’s attention was stolen by Microsoft. Whatever happens, Nintendo’s big games are going to be way better than whatever MS puts on the table, regardless of how many immature 10 year olds favour the avalanche of FPS re-hashes the 720 is likely to introduce “becuz Nintendo is for kideez and teh grafics are de best hardcore innit” – A**holes.
the next couple of years is almost certainly going to be a very good year for Nintendo and gaming in general.

      • Nintenlord

By the way your comment is made you have wrongly typed your age by a few years ,30 years to be exact

      • docthespot

Save themselves from what? Surely not poor sales! Maybe poor sales from 35 yr old’s still living in mommy’s basement!

ur comment is un merit douchebag everyone knows that the thridp arty developers alrdy said that wii u is 50 percent more powerful then ps3 and 360 and could even give ps4 and 720 a run for their money how many times do i need to say this to trolls uwho cant read articles.

      • Dan7el(WiiU day one purchase)

        here we go again….facepalm

      • Novum Magus

I’m sorry Ziggy, but you are hating on Nintendo Land without even playing it. It looks great from the extensive research I have done, and it has twelve different games in one package. You might not like all of them, but even if you get some hours out of half of them it is worth it. You are knocking a system you have yet to touch as well, so hold your horses, so to speak.

      • Nintyfan

        35?! o__o

The way you spoke sounded unprofessional for someone your age. LOL

    • TheBoldman67

Wait, by reserve, do they basically mean Walmart’s version of the wait list?

      • NintendoMan :D

No, its like your making sure you get a Wii U. Basically its a physical preorder.

  • Super Paper Rye

*IT’S unlikely that all of Walmartโ€™s many stores throughout the US will have host the launch event, but most of the stores are open 24/7 anyway.
    Not ‘it unlikely’.

  • Nintendude

I don’t have the patience to wait in line. That’s why I got mine pre-ordered for delivery.

    • Bob Singh

yeah same here. i might get it a day late but at least it’ll safely get delivered 100 %.

    • Opticine

You still have to wait for it to be delivered to your home.

      • Kav

        But not in line.

      • Neonridr

sure, I could take waiting if it involved sitting on my sofa drinking a beer watching The Walking Dead or something too.. ๐Ÿ˜›

The only thing that sucks about the waiting part is that come November 18th, a bunch of us will be on here saying how great it is, and you will still have to wait a day or two before you get yours.. Now that wait will be unbearable.. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • NintendoMan :D

I got an ad in the paper for this actually so we rushed to Walmart on the 14th and reserved one. The employee there actually said we were the first people there! ๐Ÿ˜€ I might go to the midnight launch. Not Sure ๐Ÿ™

  • The Plague

Man, I cannot wait. My wife, kids and I will all be having a blast. It’s only a shame the Rayman Legends won’t be a launch title because we were really counting on that one.

    • docthespot

I’m in the same boat, with a wife and 3 kids. We’re all really excited about the WiiU! My only dilema is that I would like to give it to them for Christmas, but don’t really want to wait. My wife and I were thinking about giving it to the kids as an early Christmas present, claiming that Santa told us they were all really good this year and he wanted them to have an early gift! Thoughts?

      • Jewelarchon

That sounds like a plan to me. Open it up and let them spread the joy to their friends (and classmates, I assume) ๐Ÿ™‚

        • docthespot

Good point! Getting the word out to my kids’ friends will only help with sales. And honestly, better sales = better support from third parties and the like!

          • TheBoldman67

It might be a good idea to persuade the teenager’s friends so that the line of more core games keep comming along. Now I just have to wait for Gamestop to call me up on the wait list so I can get my deluxe and Arkham City (even though I already pre-ordered Arkham City).

      • ME…WIIU…..sexiness :)

that kind of ruins the point of christmas then dont ya think? ๐Ÿ˜›

        • JumpMan

@ME…WIIU…..sexiness :), no. the point of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Christ and GIVE to one another.

        • docthespot

Well that is my dilema. But we could always get games and accessories for Christmas day. We have a Wii with 4 WiiMotes, are getting the deluxe WiiU with NintendoLand, so that should hold us over until Christmas day. I think what we’ll end up doing is giving it to them the night we put up the Christmas tree. This way it’ll be an early Christmas present, but not too early so they will still associate it with Christmas.

          • nintendofreak

r u sure ur not giving urself a early Christmas present?

      • NintendoMan :D

If you have a Wii, secretly replace the Wii with the Wii U and see if they can tell its different. If not, just tell them

        • docthespot

Haha! My oldest son and daughter would know immidiately with the menu screen being different. Coincidentally, does anyone know if the power button on the WiiMotes will power up the WiiU console? Obviously after syncing them of course? I would assume, only I haven’t read anything to date confirming this.

          • Alex

Hey have you guys notice that their is one person who is dump down all of your comments, great there is still more trolls out their and we just barely kick out another troll like 8 times.

          • NintendoMan :D

I know you can turn off but not sure about turning on. I’m aiming towards a yes on this one.

  • Gamechemist8

I think I’ll wait till chistmas or after to get mine, but this is still awesome for those who wanted to preorder it but couldn’t

  • zonda777

I think I’ll camp out in front of Walmart in that case. I hope I can at least get one before the usual Black Friday shoppers take over the store in a violent parade. To those who pre-ordered Wii U: I envy you…

    • Skozo

If Walmart is open 24/7, can’t you wait inside?

      • Zeldatrek

In the past you could but policies can change. The rule was for the Wii you could not wait in the store for more than 24 hours. The first two in line for the Wii were there first @ 2am. Now these were 9year olds and their parents just dropped them off by themselves, and they were moving stuff off the shelves to sleep. They could have blown it for everybody.

      • Tyler

I don’t think that’s what they are going to do…

  • NintendoMan :D

Also, how did you guys get your hands on this document when im pretty sure its for Walmart employee eyes only? Unless someone works at Walmart.

    • baal03

Actually it the document was taped to the layaway counter at my walmart, so that the employees could scan it for preorders.

      • Nintenlord

Lol is not like is a life or death top secret document

        • NintendoMan :D

Well if someone got there hands on this they could order as many Wii Us as they want. Then again, the police would hunt them down within an hour.

  • RoboticLink

Pure awesomeness. Or should I say “awesomeNES”

    • NintendoMan :D

Ha you’re so funny or should i say “punny”

    • D2K

That would have been a kick-butt name for the console. The AwesomeNES.

      • smashninja22

Dude that would be anes o_O ANUS!!!

  • Jetty

Just go early. Majority of my purchases are acquired at Walmart. Gamestop has less midnight releases, if your Walmart is 24 hours, you have a midnight release. Being the Wii U is a pre order and layaway item, secure it early, I mean late afternoon/evening early. Good luck to all.

    • JumpMan

and may the odds be ever in your favor!

  • link 5

Man I really want to go to mid night launch but my dad doesn’t want to stay out that late on a line cause of a consel ๐Ÿ™ this sucks for me u r lucky if u can go I am 16 and he cant do this for me

Like if your going dislike if your not

    • BloopbopBeepbop

im 16 too but i am going to do everything in my power to get to this. i will not fail.

  • NoPUNintendo

I’m already camping out 2 days at my gamestop. Got a 3 GBAS a few empty bottles, friends who will be with me bringing me food and water etc. (who we will also duel together in pokemons). I’m prepared. Are U?

    • Elite

Lol i wish i was prepared. If i am prepared for anything its for my finals which are that week.

    • Adam Fox

Camping out at ShameStop!? WHY!? EVERYONE in my family has already reserved a Wii-U at WalMart…my mom, dad, me, my brother, his wife, all of us have a Wii-U…while you’re sitting outside ShameStop for 2 days, i’ll be at home…then at 11:30, I can head toward walmart to pick up the Wii-U console for my entire family b/c I’m listed as a secondary person…..

      • NoPUNintendo

Because it’s cool. My gamestop is huge. Our newspaper always put whoever is first to get a new big hit release game or gamesystem in the paper. It’s the only Gamestop in our County. Plus, it’s usually the same people at our area that camp out, so it’s cool to see them again. Last time I didn’t camp out for a midnight release, I didn’t get home til 2AM. If you’re as dedicated to gaming as I am, you would see why. Heck if you saw a picture of the inside of my house you would think it’s either, fake, or some fat bearded guy living with his mom that does nothing expect collect games.

    • Morley94

Sounds fun for maybe a few hours… but two days? It sounds like you don’t have a preorder…

      • NoPUNintendo

I have a preorder, but it’s always cool to be the first to get a game system or new game. I do this with all big midnight releases. In my local area, we put whoever is first to get it at gamestop in the newspaper.

    • JumpMan

i think he was joking guys. don’t get a crazay.

      • NoPUNintendo

        I’m being dead serious.

  • cesar

people who reserve the Wii U using the layaway of walmart will just be doing line to get their console, it is not so see if they can get one. This will be a line just to accommodate people in order of arrival to the store to get their Wii U first or last, but it will ensure you will have one. I saw that document the day I went to reserve mine, it is the exact copy, you can see it because the agent of the layaway desk need it to scan the bar lines to print the recipe. If you want to camp out at walmart good, but you still have until december 14th to pick your Wii U when the layway for the Wii U ends.

  • LyingTuna

Well, I hope GameStop does a midnight release…of course, I don’t see why they wouldn’t, as it is a new Nintendo console……………..hm………

    • ssb4 3dsFC3007 8585 6950

I hope there are enough wii u’s to go around, i dont have enough money to pre order one.

      • LyingTuna

Well, if you are fast about it, you’ve got a decent shot.

    • JumpMan

i really hope they do. i wan’t to play my Wii U ASAP!!!

  • The Tramp

I went to reserve my Wii U on 10/14 which was the first day that Walmart started taking reserves. I had to be at work at 9am (I work in the Automotive Service department there) and I got there at 8:30 and I was the first one in my store to reserve the Wii U! As of right now, I am the ONLY one in my store that has it on reserve! Man, I can’t wait for it to arrive for pickup!

  • Jc

Some people that already reserved the wii u are so lucky. I am gonna bring my hard earned money to walmart and wait ’till midnight, but it’s worth it ๐Ÿ™‚

  • TheUNation

One month away from the release of Nintendo’s next generation console… the Wii U.

  • Switch_Back 3dsFC 3437 4342 8205

I can’t wait to get my hands on a Wii U.
    Sucks that I didn’t pre-order. TT^TT

  • 30yearsofnintendogaming

crap. couldnt pre order wii u. now i gotta wait until dec. 25. good thing im only 13. i only have one sister that enjoys to play video games with me, nut i usally play solo. so now i wont get the full wii u experience. good thing i have friends that are getting nintendo network premium with me!!!!

    • NintendoMan :D

Do you have to pay for nintendo network kinda like Xbox Live?

      • zonda777

No. Nintendo Network is integrated into the system, and it’s free. You only have to pay if you want Nintendo Network Premium, which is basically a higher class membership.

        • NintendoMan :D

Cool. I would hate if I had to pay for it even though i don’t do online that much.

      • Zeldatrek fc 3780-9021-0732

No its freeeeeee! NNP is just the name of the discount program 10% off download game for a year available for Deluxe bundle costumers. But yeah it can get confusing.

  • Shane

I’m REALLY tempted to ask Walmart if I can still pre-order one, even though I already have the Deluxe preordered. I have mine at Best Buy, and they haven’t announced anything about midnight launches yet, but I’m hoping they do! My guess is most places will and will let people know if they are a week or so before. I guess I’ll just ride out the extra 8 hours, and go when the store opens…

I also don’t want to pre order 2 and then only go to Walmart, and then the one I preordered at Best Buy will be held for 5 days, and everyone will be pissed or something… haha.

Wii U’s deluxes are going for like $500 on eBay. Those greedy bastards! The only simpathy I have for people that do that, is if they actually need the profit, but alot of people don’t, which is just selfish IMHO.

  • Darkmanext

The 5 Gamestop in my area, said that like the Wii the WiiU will not have a midnight release. This is because it launches on a Sunday. They said they will open 1 to 2 hours early instead.

    • Neonridr

I wonder if that will be the same up here in Canada at the EB Games (Gamestop equivalent). I had asked if they were planning a midnight launch when I preordered and they had said no at the time, however that may have changed depending on how many preorders they had. But I hope they do what yours is doing and open a few hours early. Sunday’s suck because everything opens so late. If not I won’t be able to pick it up until like 11am on the Sunday.

  • Jray

Hm.. i pre-ordered my WiiU the day after the announcement at Gamestop… I wanna go to the midnight release (never been to one before), but i’m kinda afraid it’ll be really hectic… do console releases really only have big, crazy lines in the city and stuff? or does that apply to all gamestores, even in the suburbs? hmmm… :l

    • Morley94

Gamestop is actually very organized with preorders and midnight releases. I’ve been to every midnight release of Call of Duty since World at War. There will probably be alot of people there, depending on the size of the store and your area, but it should go smoothly. Even if there is a lot of people, you’ll be out of there around 12:30 (this has been my experiences)

  • WiiUhyper

Even if you wait for 1 day because you pre-ordered it, who cares, because your going to get it NO-MATTER-WHAT

  • WiicolasU

tanks wiiudaily.com for this information already have my reservation for The wii U deluxe set, now i just pick in the launch date at 00:01 am, yuju

  • marioU

drive over 15 miles to the city, they have bigger stores like Meijer, Walmart, Kmart, Target, toy r us and GameStop. Meijier is only the one that opens 24/7. what will you recommend me to do?

  • Marioravesto3d

If anyone lives in uk I would pre order now,lot of sites have sold out especially 32g with zombi u.Lucky for me I work on electrical department for a big super market have pre order 32g zombi u.Were open at midnight we expect to be busy not surprised there wii u going to be brilliant.

  • smallNdeadly

I find it funny that I’ve read so many articles saying that its been sold out for a while but yet Walmart still has :\

  • Xeia

Already got mine!. its was $343 with m Walmart discount.

    • NintendoMan :D

Not much of a discount only 7 dollars off.

      • Xeia

its about 50 dollar off. what with taxes and reserve fee.

I get up at 3:30am to goto work. This will be delivered to my house soon after launch. No lines. Screw that noise. :p

“Those greedy bastards! The only simpathy I have for people that do that, is if they actually need the profit, but alot of people donโ€™t, which is just selfish IMHO. ”

Its supply and demand. Ecomonics 101. Did you do a personal head count for those people that dont need a profit? No one is twisting your arm to pay it. If someone doesnt want to going through the effort of waiting for one in line or any addtional hassle they’ll pay. Its their CHOICE. Simple. I doubt you’ll pay anything. Its easier to insult people. So quit whimpering like a girl, k?

  • Wii U Gamer20

  • Lazara The Last

I live in Norway and the Wii U is released on a Friday hereโ€ฆ That means I have to go to school the same day, and I canโ€™t go to a midnight release anyway. And I’m going on high school so I guess I canโ€™t โ€œbe sickโ€ even for something as important as this!!

Dumb wal-mart, I called and basically had to walk them through their own procedures, just so I could lay mine away. They said that their flyer referred to the internet preorder. I asked if they could look up the “Item Number” from that picture. He found it in the system and still refused to do it until they had the physical item. I told them I found it on the internet that you could do it. After 2 – 2.5 hrs the guy calls me back last night and I reserved mine today.

    – It is sad that we know more that the people that should know.

Man, I really should have preordered. I’m sure there will be a bunch available at stores after launch day. Or at least I hope so. :/

I asked on my GameStop and they won’t have a midnight launch…

Does anyone know how the pre-orders will be distributed on launch day? For instance, when I pre-ordered did I pre-order a specific unit that will be bar coded to me, or will it be first come first serve for all who pre-ordered?
