Wii U launchThe Wii U launch will be much better than the Nintendo 3DS launch, with lots more games and content available. According to Nintendo UK’s David Yarnton, the company has learned from the mistakes it made with the portable 3DS, mistakes which will be corrected with the Wii U. The big problem with the 3DS was lack of content and lack of a functionality to download games. This will change with the Wii U later this year, which will launch with dozens of games and a full working Wii U eShop. Speaking to MCV, he said,

“One of the problems with 3DS was content. When we launched we didn’t have the content we do now, or the functionality for download games either”.

Yarnton continued, pointing out that the Wii U had 23 games showcased at E3 2012, plus other services like Amazon and Netflix, which will bring their streaming movie features to the Wii U. Yarnton also commented on the Wii U price, saying the company has a target price it will like to hit in order to get their investment back. This reiterates what Nintendo has been saying previously, that the Wii U will not be sold at a loss and that the company will make money on each console, much like it did with the Wii and GameCube. The way the market and the competition looks now, it’s highly unlikely we’ll see a Wii U price above $250.

So far, over 20 Wii U launch titles are expected to be released during the “launch window”, which according to Nintendo could be anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks after the console hits the store shelves.

There’s always hope for the world. I’m sure that hundreds of thousands of people all around the world will be purchasing the Wii U. We don’t know if it’s gonna be bundled with Nintendo Land or New Super Mario Bros. U or preferrably no games, I’m sure the number of units will surpass the Nintendo 3DS launch. Five months away from Nintendo’s brand new gaming/social/entertainment (EVERYTHING!) console.

  • Madara

I’d like to have this console and 5 or so Wii U games before New Year’s Day. The Nintendo faithful don’t need these iterations to maintain confidence in the system. Well, at least I’ll have things to occupy me this fall while I wait for the launch.

  • 3ds guy

Aslong as there two or three decent games then al be happy i got 3ds launch night with street fighter and pilot wings which i thought was ok for launch kept me happy i dont see the problem with 3ds launch my ps vita not hadl alot to get for it an games get boaring quick on it

    • Alienfish

      School much?

  • Paul

I think we already knew it would be better than the 3DS launch, but it’s nice to get confirmation

  • TheBoldman67

Wait the article said it’s HIGHLY unlikely we’ll see a price HIGHER than 250. Damn I thought 300 was low for that thing. Now I’m DEFINITELY buying this.

    • TheMaddMan

I really want a low price because I also want to get an Android by the end of the year.

    • Jhane

PS3 actually has a grinowg library of good games whereas the Wii stopped with Brawl. If you can only afford a couple games for the Wii, I suggest Zelda: Twilight Princess and Super Smash Bros. Was this answer helpful?

  • Hafid

I think the Will really be à good console !
Nintendo learned from the error …
And a good news more !!! She Will be the selling record of christmas all around the world … And one for me with Pikmin or super Mario world or else …
Nintendo CAN surprise us one more Time with a big game !!!
    Thanks again Nintendo !!!

    • Britton

      I like your enthusiasm.

  • Shankovich

Honestly, I know it will; Nintendo knows how to forgive :D. It would be really nice to have hardcore games that haven’t been released already to come out along with the other console’s games though (so we can show off the better graphics while we have them :P). ZombiU is a seller though, and I for some reason I just really really like Lego City for some reason LOL, this coming from a huge Metroid/Zelda hardcore. I’d also LOVE to see NFS: Most Wanted for the WiiU with better graphics than the other consoles (I know it can, it’s just will Criterion try).

    • Chris

Alien Colonial Marines hasn’t came out for any other system yet, so that might be the first in a line of games that come out for the Wii U at the same time as the other consoles versions of the game

    • Daemonrunner

Yeah, I am excited about LEGO City: Undercover as well. There is just something about it that seems amazing.

If you pay attention to the video, it really does show off some great capabilities of the Wii U. Draw distance looks to span out pretty far, anisotropic filtering look better than most (no wall of blur/clarity), and the textures look very crisp. I saw a little bit of level of detail pop-in, but that’s pretty standard even on PC games. I know this is a LEGO game and isn’t exactly pushing the envelop of visuals, but it looks amazing!

Gameplay looks fun as well. Looks like the gamepad will be present, but not intrusive, which I like – it looks like it was well thought-out rather than exploited.

I bought a DS Lite on reseale date and can tell you its well worth it. It may not be as powerful under the hood as a PSP, but you get Nintendo\’s quality titles for it. Plus the wi-fi capability is excellent. I still can\’t get over the fact that i can play Mario Kart against people in Japan completely wirelessly. If you\’re specifically looking for bad points, i heard that some can have the odd dead pixel (won\’t light or change colour), though i haven\’t experienced this. I do wonder how long the touch screen can last before it becomes scratched to bits, but its fine so far.

  • Alienfish

Is $250 not a typo? If it goes on sale for that much I’ll be all over it.

  • Chupa chup

$250? That is pretty damn cheap!

And I am glad that Nintendo has learned from their mistakes. This shows that N is willing to adjust and adapt, which are important qualities that successful and vibrant companies need to possess. Ultimately, N will come out of this a stronger and wiser company, and I have faith that they know what they are doing with the Wii U.

  • WiiUPlayWithMe:P

I think you meant below $250. Honestly, everyone with half a brain expects it to be at least $300, with plenty of speculation at $350. I would love to get it for that low of a price, but come on, just considering what we’re getting here, these prices even seem plenty fair. I just don’t wanna get everyone’s hopes up that this is gonna be that cheap of a system at release. Nintendo spent more into this one than the Wii. I mean, just think about what could be coming with this system vs what came with the Wii at launch. I’m just saying, expect at least $300. That seems like a great price still, though, pretty much anyone on this website’d probably get it no matter what it cost, haha

  • Chris

To be honest here, I have to say they are right. The 3DS line up was a bit disappointing but games like PilotWings Resort, Rayman 3D and SplinterCell 3D was good but the rest was either mediocre or not that good.

Wii U’s launch line up looks a lot more better and they got some cool AAA titles up on the list like Mass Effect 3, Assassin’s Creed III, Batman Arkham City, Darksiders II, Ninja Gaiden III: Razors Edge and a good handful of Nintendo 1st party titles like Pikmin 3, NintendoLand, New Super Mario Bros U and Wii Fit U… okay, maybe the last one might only be entertaining to people who won’t to stay fit or have a family but still, a good line up of titles heading for the Wii U’s launch.

Not to forget about the other games like Rayman Legends, ZombiU, P-100, Lego City: Undercover, TANK! TANK! TANK!, Scribblenauts Unlimited and Tekken Tag Tourment 2.

Can I have some Nintendo DS Lite reviews?I might buy one, then again not.1. What games do you rcmeemond? Age: 112. What color?3. Did you like your choice? Of your purchase of game?4. On a scale of 1-10, what would you rate it? Why?5. Anything else you want to share with me? Any tips how to buy it? Where is the cheapest place to buy it? Besides, the Internet? What would you rate it if the new DSI’s weren’t out? And, they never were?

  • Paul

sorry but no way is the console going to sell at £160 as its going to retail for £300 – $470 at the least

expect to pay double that with games, and addons

  • Daemonrunner

If Nintendo hits a $250 price point, that would be amazing!

The confirmed lineup is already starting to sound great – as long as Nintendo can maintain the momentum of 3rd party support, it will be a very successful in my household.

I love that all my Virtual Console and WiiWare games will transfer – I may actually start buying games again since I know I can still have them all in one place.

  • AwayToHit

If its $300 or less, its a day one buy for me XD

  • Your mom

This does make a little sense since the wii u will have already popular games like mass effect 3, black ops 2, batman arkham city, and many other games. And it will support HDMI and 3D tvs, and for non hardcore gamers it will have Nintendo land, new super Mario bros U, Lego city undercover, Rayman legends, plus more. I think I have said enogh.

  • MYCO

    • Pretzels

      Where were you?

  • Pretzels

Way to go Nintendo, smart move. No more than $250.00 is pretty stunning. Now it actually seems possible for me to buy one when it comes out. I might actually be able to get one after all.

  • superWII

    i need a wii u!!!!

  • Ben

Launch it with some limited edition bundle’s like the super mario bros u one with a Mario and luigi controller/console not that i would buy that but i’m prety shure allot of fans will, and the fact its a limited edition will make real fans run to the store so it automatically stars with a boost.
