Wii U console
The Nintendo Wii U is as powerful as the current generation consoles, according to Darksiders 2 developer Vigil Games. It’s been previously rumored that the Wii U would be more powerful than the current generation consoles, according to leaked Wii U specs. But if you ask Darksiders 2 director Marvin Donald, the Wii U version of the game will be “pretty much the same” as the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. Donald also said:

“So far the hardware’s been on par with what we have with the current generations. Based on what I understand, the resolution and textures and polycounts and all that stuff, we’re not going to being doing anything to up-rez the game, but we’ll take advantage of the controller for sure.”

Donald praised the new Wii U controller, saying that it’s “been great to work with”. We’ve heard before that Wii U hardware is around 50% more powerful than current gen consoles, according to industry insiders with access to the console.

Another point that Donald made in the interview, is that Nintendo still hasn’t revealed a release date for the Wii U, which would help developers with a deadline if they wish to join the launch lineup of games. Despite this, Darksiders 2 is still targeted to be a launch title for the new Nintendo console.

I still have my doubts about this. Nintendo better do what’s right and release something that supports noticeably better graphics than the current gen. It’s only been one generation of gaming that Nintendo’s been behind in the graphics department and I’m already sick of it.

Also, I’m not so sure that this is such a great indicator of WiiU’s power. All they said was that they won’t be up res-ing the game and that so far WiiU has been able to keep up with whatever Xbox 360 and PS3 can do. That doesn’t mean they couldn’t create better graphics if they had a mind to put more work into the game. 360/PS3 graphics is a good starting point in my opinion but I expect there to be more to the console than that.

When you’ve got a game that’s on multiple platforms, it will almost always look identical on all platforms. This gen, the leading platform has been the Xbox 360 and if the Wii U is going to coexist with that system for at least some amount of time, it makes sense that a game on both systems will look relatively similar. So the fact that multiconsole Wii U games (especially ones at launch that have been in development for other systems for a while) look more or less the same as they do on Xbox and PS3 makes sense. Where the graphical capabilities will really be tested is in the exclusives. The PS3 version of a game usually looks the same as the Xbox version, but PS3 exclusives typically push the system’s graphical limits.

If wii U games come at 1080p or 720p, that alone is 100% performance increasement, as xbox360 and ps3 offer 480p-500 (something) max resolution to their games, be able have reasonable fps.. Then they just upscale them to 1080p.

If wii U released games at xbox360 and ps3 resolutions, it would be able give them eat some dust in matter of fps (frame per second). The point is, to be able to offer us at 1080p games without any issues with this 2x screen controllers. As they drain lots of gpu and cpu power.

In the other hand, many people see quad core and 3.00ghz and they think its the same performance as xbox.. Bolloks.. Xbox360 can give up to 46-56 (something like that), Gflops of power and NOT in theory.. In the other side ps3 can give up to 33 Gflops of real power and NOT in theory..

Wii U can give real performance at 96 Gflops, ALMOST, just almost the same cpu power as a 980x by Intel…(99gflops).. Now if wii U comes with 3.1 or 3.3 ghz, the power increases dramatically.. So fingers crossed.

Wow you hit the nail on the head. I love your theory and i do think it’s correct. I am keeping my fingers cross.

As a person who custom build pcs, Im appalled at the level of idiocy and denigration of the Wii U.
this video pretty much sums it up
