The Wii U launch in Japan is just a few days away, and retailers have already started displaying Wii U games and accessories, according to photos of a Japanese shop.

The below photos were from Yodobashi in Kyoto, where several games were on display, and it looked like they were on sale as well. The Wii U launches in Japan on December 7, and will start at around $350 for the Basic set and $400 for the Deluxe set.

Unlike in other territories, the Deluxe set won’t include a game. Instead, it will feature a two-year subscription to Nintendo Network Plus, which would give Japanese gamers discounts on online sales and free games.

While most of the Wii U console sales will happen in the US and Europe (due to larger markets), Japan is still a very important territory for Nintendo — it’s the homeland of the company and success there is crucial these days due to a weak Yen, which means overseas profits are not as hefty as they used to be.

    This got through moderation?

The article states US and Europe because sales in the rest of NA are less than Japan.

In terms of sales, US > EU > JP > AU > rNA > SA. Last I checked, that makes US and EU markets largest. While US is part of the NA ‘global’ market, they are quite often counted separately for distribution and sales tracking.

For Nintendo sales. In particular the 3ds Japan is the biggest territory for Nintendo.

The 3ds has sold more in Japan than it has in USA or Europe.

It’s selling well in USA ans EU , but selling at an unprecedented rate in japan.¬†
I presume NIntendo will try something similar with Wiiu in Japan. Cough Monster Hunter HD at launch cough….

I love Japanese game stores, wish they were more like that in the UK.

”While most of the Wii U console sales will happen in the US and Europe (due to larger markets), Japan is still a very important territory for Nintendo”
That’s not¬†necessarily true. Japan is pretty much equal to Europe and USA. In fact the 3ds has sold more than it has Europe or America.¬†¬†

I’m starting to wonder why are Nintendo releasing it in japan, where the company is located last?

To give their favorite countries (in terms of making money) first choice for Nintendo Network usernames. =)

With Monster Hunter Ultimate 3G and Dragon Quest X BETA the WiiU is going to sell like crazy in Japan .
