Nintendo has confirmed that the Wii U and the portable 3DS console will be getting a unified account system via Nintendo Network. The news was revealed by a Nintendo customer representative to GoNintendo. The rep said that a unified account system will be implemented later in 2012, after the launch of the Wii U. Another feature Nintendo will implement is account system recovery, where players will be able to transfer their accounts and data to new consoles should they lose access to the other ones, in case of theft, etc. Giving users a chance to have one account for both the Wii U and 3DS will undoubtedly make things more streamlined and easy for gamers who own both systems. Or those who plan on buying both the Wii U and 3DS. The company recently said they’ll offer Nintendo Network for free, but indicated that a paid, premium Wii U online subscription might come in the future. Nintendo Network includes such features as the Wii U eShop, Wii U Ware channels, apps such as Netflix and Hulu, and the brand new Miiverse social network. Nintendo has previously hinted at some advanced integration between the 3DS and the Wii U, where the 3DS could be used as an extra controller. We’ve yet to see anything concrete on that front, though. local_offer 3DS Nintendo nintendo network wii u wii u online stars Further Reading Organize screenshots on Nintendo Switch Nintendo: we’re not discounting the Swi Garzard Get ready for an uber long update kids! Mike Not really, the Wii had that stand-by modus, so it would be a no-brainer to make updates when the system is in stand-by. I really hate it how the PS3 does it. swic11 ya considering how the PS3 is the supposed “all powerful system”. I hated my PS3 sold it fast. Garzard I meant the 3DS Really? Interesting MAN Wait so can i play downloaded 3ds games on the Wii U gamepad?! Buzzeh No, it probably means that if you buy like $10 on the 3DS eShop you will also be able to spend those same $10 in the WiiU eShop trainerblk Great nintendo doing whats needs to be done. So can all the winnie fanboys please shut up & let nintendo do there maigic & show u why they the don of gaming today Poncho Hey now, liking Winnie the Pooh is no reason to tell people to shut up. trainerblk ButThere is reason when fanboys are giving the wrong message without knowing facts i understand when people speak at show knowledge in what they say but the truth hurt & the truth is fanboys are hurting the gaming community saying false rumors & acting like they stateing facth but what really doing is costing copanys like nintendo money because people be gullible enough to belive them & it hurts everone not just nintendo because if god forbid nintendo leave the gaming seen gaming wont. Evoleve because ms & sony wont no what way to go Steventelation i have no idea what you just said. Ty Sweet no more Friend Codes. I hate it when I give my code to my friend and they lose it so i have to rewrite it. . Smart move Nintendo Rasta I guess we will have are own accounts and not friend codes BRRRRRUP!!! uPadWatcher Two thumbs up for Nintendo in creating a unified account system for Wii U and 3DS!!!!!!! Wii Uoops! I don’t think the 3DS will be a controller because it doesn’t have those second triggers on its back, and doesn’t have a TV controller button. Madara Think of the top screen as the TV and the bottom screen as the GamePad. Developers could work around the lack of the second set of trigger buttons. Besides, all the available controls aren’t necessarily used in every game. Corbin74 You are forgetting about the circle pad pro attachment. That could be helpful. WiiUPlayWithMe:P People keep mentioning no more friend codes, but Nintendo said they’re keeping the friend codes. They’re just making them simpler. I’m guessing it’ll be a user account name as the friend code or something like that. I think they wanna keep it a “friend” oriented system, to say that, you aren’t playing with some random user, but your friend. It doesn’t really matter what they call it, but that’s what I think the deal is gonna be. Anyhow, who else thinks that it’s because of the Wii u that they released the circle pad pro so the 3ds can act as a second gamepad, with a bonus 3rd screen. Game on one screen, map on the 3d screen, and inventory on the touch screen. I think that might be screen overload 🙂 Daemonrunner Lets just hope this also means that as long as a game is available as a download on both systems, I only have to purchase it once! Me 3DS games on the TV with the Gamepad yes please. swic11 I think this is great news for the connectivity, but we kinda already knew this considering Nintendo said that Smash Bros would be for the 3DS and the Wii U. Shankovich “…use the 3DS as a controller.” lol, and then Sony’s going to complain about that right? 😛 Hi8us Sony has nothing to complain about. Nintendo has been trying to integrate handhelds and consoles since snes days with the gameboy player, where you could play your gameboy game on the go then come home and play it on your tv with the snes gameboy player. And using the gameboy advance as an alternate controller on gamecube with some games like pacman vs and zelda four swords adventure. The idea is by no means new and sony can’t claim it was ever their idea.
