Aug 30th, 2014

As we move into the holiday season, Nintendo is stepping up their marketing for the Wii U. The Mario Kart 8 bundle that debuted earlier this year did a lot to boost awareness around the Wii U, with many sites giving a “worth a buy” mention to the Wii U thanks to its excellent catalogue. We here at Wii U Daily have even looked at games released on the console in the past, especially whether or not they performed well in comparison to the userbase.

Either way, the Wii U is definitely a system with some great must have games currently on the way, with plenty to play while you wait. Check out this trailer that is part of Nintendo’s new marketing efforts and let us know what games you’re looking forward to most!

FINALLY! A GOD DAMN GOOD ADV FROM NINTENDO!
    WOO YAY!!!

    • BrBa

      The music is terrible tho.

  • Ducked

About time Nintendo is stepping up with some good advertising. Woolly World, Xenoblade, and Zelda look amazing.

2014 however looks gloomy, not just for Wii U, but all three systems entirely. At least I’ll have Smash.

    • Funny thing is, that Nintendo, the company who never managed to come up with really good Online-deals, actually teased me so much with those upcoming Mario Kart DLCs, that they are kinda the thing I’m most excited to get this & next year. A DLC. From Nintendo. So good I already bought it. Unbelievable.

      • Ducked

One thing that strikes me with the DLC is how cheap it is. Only $11.99 for two DLC’s! That’s six racers, and sixteen tracks. Amazing deal.

        • Ramde Saeed

Yup I agree. Any other game/company would probably want 40-50$ for that.

        • Rias Gremory

you forgot 8 new vehicles total from both packs

          • Ducked

            That too

        • ProteanKecleon

It’s a great deal, but we are buying it blind. We don’t know the full contents of the DLCs, like whether or not we’ll like the tracks. But for those of us confident enough to buy early, it is a really good deal.

          • iamserious

Well I like the tracks on MK8 right now so more of the same or better is fine with me. Would be great if they threw in battle arena stages though! 🙂

          • ProteanKecleon

Yeah, I’m confident I’ll like them too, so I was fine with prebuying. The screenshot of the Animal Crossing town track looks really cool.

        • David John Gifford

Its nintendo thats y they dont do everything just for money

        • Sixteen tracks. Needed to repeat that again. I read that first when I woke up and truly needed a coffee first to believe that. Sometimes, stuff you really want to happen actually can come true. I really hoped they would release 2 or maybe 4 new tracks over time. But sixteen. priceless. for 12 bucks. Oh my god, I’m still so hyped.

      • Rias Gremory

i just preorder the mario kart 8 dlc and by the way you get different color skins for yoshi and shy guy wen you preorder

      • Rich Garriques

i bought the dlc right after it came out. worthy deal

    • BrBa

Consoles games these days suck butts anyways, true gamers play games on smartphone! and Tablets !!

    • Chelseafan1989

Nope, you”l have Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors, and SMASH!!!!!

      • Ducked

I don’t really care for Bayonetta 2, not my play style. Hyrule Warriors is a maybe, it just looks to get boring real fast. I’ve played Dynasty Warriors, so I know what to expect.

        • MetroidZero

          Agreed, but still captivating nonetheless.

        • FutureFox

Yeah, I was thinking the other day why I quit playing Bayo1. For me, it was like being in a fun house but not knowing what you can or shouldn’t touch.

      • iamserious

I’m getting all three! Gotta catch em all! Lol jk.

    • Fred

      I’m most looking forward to
      #1-Xenoblade X
      #2-Splatoon
      #3-Hyrule Warriors
      #4-Smash Bros

      • My thoughts exactly!

      • Ducked

        Interesting. For me:

        1: Xenoblade
        2: Zelda
        3: Smash
        4: Yoshi Woolly World
        5: Splatoon

  • Jerudaaaaaa

  • classicgamer20

We’ll I guess Nintendo finally learned how to advertise their system.

    • FutureFox

Can’t advertise what isn’t developed. That was their whole problem, being too slow to develop and get things ready for launch.

      • MetroidZero

I guess they should’ve held the Wii U’s release until 2013–it would’ve have made a big difference, imo.

        • Bowsah

          ^^^^This!

      • CaptRogers

PS4 sure is doing a great job at it. That is if by develop you mean develop games.

        • FutureFox

That is what I meant. As it stands PS4 is the “One” kicking ass and taking names.

          • CaptRogers

Sorry that was supposed to be semi sarcastic in that Ps4 is doing a great job a marketing a console that has no games. The best game that everybody loved is just a sequel to a game, that while I loved, few even played and many only thought was average. Both consoles have better games than PS4 right now imo. Will it always be like that? Probably not, PS3 stated similarly (actually it had tons of games, they were just all letdowns), but ishome to the best exclusive games of last gen minus galaxy. At the same time, they don’t have anything to lose compared to last gen do maybe they’ll just ride on the success, but who knows

          • FutureFox

Well Sony and Microsoft have the luxury of being able to advertise what third-parties deliver to them. I don’t see how anyone can fault them for that. The point is when games (however they are procured) were available the companies will market it. Sony has third-party games lined up so they marketed the hell out of them. Nintendo being a bit on their own had only their own ips to market but of course those weren’t ready and hence their radio silence.

          • CaptRogers

The problem wasn’t that they didn’t have any third parties, they did, it was that they were only given old games that were terrible ports. And yeah the other consoles have third party, but the majority are on last gen. There’s honestly very little reasons for someone to upgrade to the PS4 yet considering there’s not really any can’t miss on day one titles, not until Uncharted 4 that is. PS4 is just a very well marketed hype machine that rode it’s success off of Microsoft’s failures. Had Microsoft played its cards right at first then things would be much different and we’d be facing the same “no games” just like in ’06, but this time it would be even more true.

          • BrBa

Uhm, I don’t think anybody give a crap about what microsoft did anymore, the PS4 got sold more simply because it’s cheaper (Assume u buy an Xbox One with Kinect) and more powerful, the console also have one more major advantage, but those who ain’t a PS fan or don’t have a PS3 and/or Vita will probably don’t know this “major advantage” ….
It’s a PS+ ;). It give you a lots of “free games” on both PS4, PS3 and PS Vita, for every month AND just $50 !! Yes, right now, PS+ only give you indies free games on PS4, but PS3 ? Full AAA titles, same goes to PS Vita.

Here is some of the month free games.

There are a lots more, but i get tired of finding it -__- …

  • Wooopigsooie

Kinda freaked out there for a second when it showed Super Smash Bros. and then said “Coming 2015.”

    • MetroidZero

      Ahaha! 😉

  • Petri

Really disappointed that it’s missing W101.

    • BrBa

The game look cool, but the gameplay is horrible!

      • David

I beg to differ. Gameplay was awesome and not as difficult as some people made it out to be.

        • Stuart Thomas

Yeah, you just had to give it a couple of levels to get used to it. My only real issues were when you went inside of a structure and the view changed, it was weird. BUT! it was a fantastic game and i loved every minute of it.

        • BrBa

It’s one of the games that truly showed the strength of the gamepad.

      • W101 was one of the greatest Actiongames of the past years. I understand what you mean because it really had it’s issues but I guess 90% of the players who gave this title the chance it deserves got used to it and loved it. If you belong to the 10% or have just played the demo, then unlucky you, you’ve missed one hell of a ride =)

        • eclectic*raptor

i will have to sit down and give it another go.

          • Do it. To be fair, Tha game needs some time to get into, but once you’ve spend that, you’ll get maximum satisfaction out of it =)

      • nexxus6

That’s what happens when you let someone else do the thinking for you. Judging by your post, you never gave it a fair shake.

        • BrBa

I did play it, If they have Mario in it, I would give it an 8.

      • Petri

Did you play it past the demo?

    • This is just about Nintendo’s real milestone games. W101 was very unsuccessful so Nintendo would be stupid to try to sell this as one of WiiUs biggest hits. Don’t get me wrong, I love it and would like to see it having a broader audience too, but I would never think Nintendo would pick W101 as one of 3 best games of the past. It’s more a surprise that they didn’t pick Pikmin 3 as this is actually a Miyamoto original. But even in this case I understand that it’s just not a catchy franchise like Mario, Donkey Kong and Zelda.

      • nexxus6

        Agree 100% on Pikmin 3

      • Petri

It says, “Wii U games of past, present and future”.
Sure it’s missing a few great games, but I fail to see the purpose of this video showcasing things that one who would watch it, probably already knew about the games on the video.

      • MujuraNoKamen

The sad thing is W101 is one of the best Wii U games. Also showing a game this isn’t a familiar franchise would have looked better I mean there’s 3 Zelda games in that trailer, 2 Mario games (and Mario Party 10 on the way)
Even if it is a bit late they should give it some attention, no one should be content with such a cool game doing so badly whether or not it was a new IP. Nintendo ought to be ashamed that they’ve sabotaged the sales of so many awesome games with piss poor marketing.
        – Also Monster Hunter, Lego City and as you said Pikmin 3 ought to have some more representaion here.

        • If they’d put all great games in there, it wouldn’t be the same video. They decided to take 3 from the past, 3 from the present and 3 from the future. I think that’s quite smart as it’s always better to keep these things short. And reducing it to the 3 main IPs, saying ‘there’s already stuff like this there and even more in the line’ is just what they need.

    • Ducked

      And Pikmin 3

    • NintendoFan4Life

Really disappointed it barely has any games at all!

    • eclectic*raptor

it’s not the most accessible game.

      • Petri

Oh no, a game that you actually have to learn how to play it?
Keep that shit away from my gaming!

I know combination of busy adults, and adhd kids with attention spawn of a squirrel does not really make for a good demographic for games with a learning curve.

        • eclectic*raptor

          yes. just yes.

  • This is a pretty good video for advertising the Wii U, now just if something like this could make it to TV.

    • wondering if TV still is that powerful. Sure, it’d be cool if they could promote like that on the TV, but I guess spreading stuff across the web can be just as powerful if executed carefully.

      • BrBa

But grand/parents don’t do internet XD.

        • I do 😉

          • BrBa

Well, I meant the majority ;).

      • nexxus6

I think people spend just as much time on the web, as they do TV. Also, with DVR, most people fast-forward through commercials.

      • That’s true, but I do think there is still a group of people that would help them learn about the Wii U if there were more advertisements on TV, but TV is so ignored now days, at least for me, I can’t remember the last time I turned the TV on to actually watch TV outside of Netflix.

      • MujuraNoKamen

See the problem with that is that it’s generally only going to be seen by gamers on gaming sites.
Nintendo needs to bombard everyone with cool trailers and hype like Sony did for PS4 launch. That way all sorts of people will see it get blown away by Bayonetta, MK8, Xenoblade and such and buy Wii Us.

        • Sure, they would need to but I guess they just don’t usually use that much money for advertising. The XBone did cost MS about… something like 2,1 billion $ and they ‘only’ got 1,7 in return. This kinda shows how dangerous it can be to put too much money into advertising a product that still won’t be the thing the mainstream audience is asking for. And altough the WiiU could totally expand it’s audience it’s still not the mainstream-thing like the PS4. So Nintendo has to treat these things with great care. How much money and how much loss can they risk to get what kind of sales-lift? It’s not that easy. And to be true, it’s not like gamers wouldn’t be aware of the WiiU at this point. And this could be the main problem. What Nintendo needs to do is not just informing the world about their system, but to rebuild an image they never had. And this is where stuff gets really expensive. Sony can aford stuff like that as they are pretty huge in TV and Music industry. But for Nintendo, building some real image would be quite a mountain to climb.

  • Brandon

Well, now we know that star fox isnt coming in 2015.

    • Ducked

Star Fox doesn’t really have much of a trailer to advertise at the time.

      • Brandon

True, but do you really think the game is coming out 2015?

        • MujuraNoKamen

Miyamoto said he hopes it would be done in 12 months and that was at E3. But who knows 😀

          • Brandon

12 months? I dont nintendo is going to do that. How is the game going to be if its only going to take 12 months to make?

          • MujuraNoKamen

Not sure. I heard a while back they’re looking for a development partner so I’m hoping they’ll co develop it with Retro or Platinum Games. Plus I’m not sure how long it was in development before E3 so hopefully hey aren’t rushing it.

          • Brandon

Doesnt seem like it was in development long. I’ve never played star fox, so im a little interested in playing it, same for other nintendo ips (except for pokemon, mario, and zelda).

        • Ducked

I’m not exactly sure. I don’t see either game releasing earlier than the fall. But it would be hard to imagine to see both Zelda and Star Fox releasing near each other; it’s likely one of them could be pushed back to 2016.

          • Brandon

I believe that zelda will release at the end of 2015, but star fox maybe 2016. It will be good to release zelda the same time as the other big hitters(uncharted and halo).

        • ProteanKecleon

Star Fox is definitely a 2016 game. They didn’t actually show the game at E3. Blurry concept footage is about as indicative of a final product as the 2011 Zelda tech demo. They only showed it to us so they could say they were working on it.

  • Finalbossasaurus

This just reminded me that I need to finish Donkey Kong Tropical freeze and XenoBlade Chronicles(Wii)

    • Stuart Thomas

Man tropical freeze pissed me off, i played it for the first week of owning it, and…. well i haven’t touched it since. Just was a few really difficult sections that irritated me a little. So i just forgot about it, and with mk8, sm3dw and shovel knight taking a lot of my time, it’s just sat and collected dust.

      • BrBa

It’s a great game if you like challenge, and music ;). Especially the Challenge.

      • Finalbossasaurus

I only played for about an hour myself but I did enjoy what I had played, though that’s because I do enjoy a challenge and that game wasn’t easy

      • Korv13

I am in the same boat as you guys. I don’t know why, I am not that motivated to advance in the game. Maybe because I’m exhausted when I finally finish 2-3 levels… That second boss was tricky….

I think that this is the price to pay to have a good challenge.

        • Chelseafan1989

Nintendo too hardcore for you lol.

          • ben

No eed to tease people, the game was great for me but for some people it was much harder, unless you are a speed runner this game was a challenge. Im half way through hard, reading these comments gives me a great insight into why some games are hugely successful. Most people dont finish games so all that matters is super impressive visuals to brag about.

          • Korv13

I have finished World 3 yesterday in one evening. My ego won’t allow me to let down the game before I finishedf it!

By the way, I felt that World 3 was much easier than World 2 (even 1). Even the World 3 boss was easier than the second.

      • Chelseafan1989

Awww Nintendo games too hardcore for you lol?

      • Bowsah

Really? I mean me personally, I didn’t think the game was THAT difficult. Of course I did have those irritating moments, but I think Returns was harder. The only problems I ever had with TF was the bosses after world 1. Every other boss after that was a little irritating. But I never had the “this is impossible!” Feeling.

The only time that I stopped playing TF was due to me losing to the final boss too much. I had to take a break (for about a month or two) but I decided to play it again and I’ve beaten it. Just saying, it felt really good seeing the end cut scene and credits.

  • Will W

    Well, I’ve seen worse advertisements…

  • Just a hero for fun

Yesterday, I got 340 likes on my comment on that video. Just sayin 😛

  • Archiq09

I dont’s know if they will make a video for Mature games, for show devil’s Third and other but I think for now it’s only exclusive Mature.

    • BrBa

These are for most-anticipated. I don’t think devil third fall into dat category.

      • uPadWatcher

..yet, but they still have plenty of time until it’s finalized.

        • BrBa

It will still be the same.

    • Chelseafan1989

There were loads of mature titles in there dude. COD or GTA ain’t mature lol!

  • NintendoFan4Life

Terrible line-up :/ There’s only like 2 multiplayer online games!

    • uPadWatcher

      Troll harder, pretendo4life.

      • NintendoFan4Life

Wow. I can’t be realistic huh? Relax fanboy.

  • BrBa

I personally think Nintendo is the most humble, friendly and respectable video games company in the world. Not trying to be dick to other two, but they’re almost always advertise their console as #TheBestPlace2Play #MostPowerfulConsole (PS4) or #BestOnlineExperiences #BestExclusives (Xbone), and what not XD.

I have no life because of Nintendo.
    true story.

    • The Prince Of All Saiyans

It’s about bragging rights for the other two while Nintendo just want to entertain you. I like the other 2 companies so no i’m not hating them.

      • BrBa

        I thought Lesnar’s retired 😛

    • eclectic*raptor

      hahaha. wait, me too.

  • Superxtreme

    Dat Xenoblade Kreygasm

  • Lassassino

    Champ

  • Chelseafan1989

    Wii U > PS4 and Xbox One!!!!!!

    • My thoughts were exactly the same, this is finally what we wanted to see, a console with an amazing lineup!

I’ll even go one further and use a catch phrase used by another company, can’t think of their name at the moment.
      Greatness Awaits!

    • Brandon

      2015: PS4 and Xbox one > Wii U

      • Chelseafan1989

        Zelda U/ Splatoon/ Starfox > any game on PS4/ Xbox One 2015

        • Brandon

Batman AK, the witcher 3, evolve, battlefield hardline, dead island 2, mortal kombat X, and The Division. Not to mention thats only some of the third parties coming.

          • Chelseafan1989

Lol you mentioned Battlefield epic fail.

          • ben

At least 4 of those games have been developed for High end PC and are now being down graded to run on “Next gen” Xbox and ps4 are good for people who cant afford a gaming pc.. However if it is a games console you want.. you should get a wii u.

          • Chelseafan1989

Amen Ben you know what you are talking about.

          • Brandon

Either way there going to run good on the consoles.

          • Chelseafan1989

Not as good as pc or STEAM account so if you have a pc Wii U is the better option than PS4 because Wii U has the best exclusives.

          • Brandon

It doesnt matter what setup you, as long as your able to play the games you like. If you nintendo games, then grab a wii u. If you also like third party games then grab a xbox, ps4, or pc. If you like all types of games and have the money, grab all or 3/4 platforms. I enjoy playing fin games with friends that what I care about, so ps4 was the option for me. Even if you dont like the other consoles doesnt their bad, it just means you dont prefer them. No need to hate 🙂

          • Chelseafan1989

You bought the wrong console if you care about playing with friends. You should have bought a Wii U with Mario Kart 8, DKC TF, Nintendo Land, NSMBU, New Luigi Bros U, SM3DW, Tekken Tag Tournament, Monster Hunter, Need for Speed Undercover, Game and Wario, Mario and Sonic, Wii Party U, also Smash is going to be the best multiplayer game online and offline this winter.

          • Brandon

I will be getting a wii u soon, but for me the playstation was the best multiplayer console. I like playing online, and me and my friends like to play multiplayer games and just mess around. Not to mention there is alot of good looking multiplayer games coming out.

          • BrBa

true, PS4 and Xbox One are third party consoles.

          • Brandon

They have good exclusives, but I have to be honest nintendo has better exclusives.

          • BrBa

No one care if you’re in 3rd place or a runner-up. The people only care if you’re the CHAMPION! or not.
            true story.
            :3

      • The Prince Of All Saiyans

Actually it’s PS4 and Xbox One = Wii U. None of them is inferior or better than the Wii U, especially not the Xbox One.

        • BrBa

          Smartphone = PS4 + Xbox One – ( Wii U x PC ).
          true story.

        • Brandon

Just want to make it clear, I dont hate wii u. Im only messing around with him.

    • The Prince Of All Saiyans

I know you love Nintendo but please stop this console war bullshit. Who cares which console is better? All of them are awesome for different reasons.

    • BrBa

      Smartphones = PS4 – Xbone + Ouya x PC / Wii U – (Total War).

      because YOLO.

  • Chelseafan1989

Smash Bros for Wii U game of the year!!!!!

  • iamserious

How on Earth can people dismiss the Wii U!?! Such a great variety of games. Also a huge lack of grey shooters! This makes me want to buy another Wii U even though I already have one! Lol 😛

    • BrBa

Save it for the new 3DS.

  • CaptRogers

Probably looking too much into it, but did anyone notice in the Smash section they put an emphasis on Animal Crossing and Samus? Animal Crossing is understandable given New Leaf’s success and the fact he is a new comer, but maybe I’m just optimistic that we’ll be hearing of a Wii U Animal Crossing and Metroid. I mean Animal Crossing is all but confirmed for Wii U considering the success of New Leaf though, just a matter of when.

  • H266

lol it seems like a fan-made video

  • MujuraNoKamen

Nice trailer but before anyone praises Nintendo for marketing, well this aint marketing it’s a youtube video. Who’s going to see it? People already looking at Wii U stuff. Talk about preaching to the choir.
Nintendo needs to make minute long versions of this (and add, Devils third, W101, Pikmin, Monster Hunter and Lego City to it) No actors, no crap, just games and glowing reviews.
Stick that shit on TV and you’ll sell Wii Us. Easy.

  • Deion Powell

This is nice and all but they should really put this kind of stuff on a TV commercial so everyone can see.

  • Pricess sparkle

Awesome vid ! Makes me even more excited for the wii u later this year and nexts 😀 !

  • insomniac

Nintendo has the greatest ips on the planet. so many were not even mentioned. nobody does it like Nintendo.

  • insomniac

    Captain Toad looks awesome!

  • necrillo

Nintendo we want destiny on the wii u!!

    • BrBa

      ok

  • Merry_Blind

    Great trailer!

Everyone bombard Nintendo’s youtube/twitter whatevr telelign them to stick this on TV. Else this isn’t going to reach out to anyone!!!!

PS: Include Pikmin, Devils Third, SMT/FE, Monster hunter, LCU and W101 in such a trailer.

Kinda disappointed here. This was a great opportunity to highlight more than just first party games. I came away from this video wondering where are all the other great games currently available on the system? Where’s the two Batman Arkham games? ZombieU? Skylanders? Injustice? Assassin’s Creed? Call of Duty? Rayman Legends? The LEGO franchise? Pikmin? Just Dance? There wasn’t even a mention of Watchdogs – seriously? There was little to no third-party love in this video either. Maybe Nintendo isn’t as excited about this system as we are.

Did you not get the memo? The main third-party devs said, “Aidos!” to Wii U.

Yea I’m aware of that. I jus think they missed a great opportunity to do some name-dropping. Especially for the gamers out there that think the Wii U only has Mario, Luigi, Zelda and now Smash Bros (which is Mario and Link etc again). I love the Wii U and I already own 18 games (16 physical and 2 download – not counting VC) and their not all first party franchise games. I wish they had thrown in a few games that the rest of the gaming community would recognize – Dues Ex, Mass Effect – so that the ill-informed would know that there’s more than just Mario on our system. And maybe it would drive more sales of those third party games and hopefully get the attention of the developers again. All this buzz about Hyrule Warriors, Smash Bros and Bayonetta is great but I have to admit that none of those games will be on my shopping list. Kirby definitely, StarFox maybe, Xenoblade Chronicles X HELL YEAH!!!!!!

Why was Pikmin 3 left out?

  • iamserious

Does anyone know of any deals for pre-ordering Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2 and Smash Bros for Wii U in USA? I want all three.

    • Bowsah

The only thing I know of is for Hyrule Warriors. If you pre-order the game (depending on the retailer) you’ll get free DLC outfits for Link and Zelda. The outfits are based on Skyward Sword, Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess.

  • iamserious

Has anyone else noticed that Disney Infinity (1.0) is free to download on the eShop? If I didn’t already have this game this would be a pretty cool deal (it’s free)!

Edit: Never mind. There was already an announcement on the 21st here on WiiUDaily. Guess I missed it. Whoops. 😛

  • This is what hater will skip. Poor of them

I can never seem to find places where Nintendo are talking about Watchdogs or Assassins Creed etc. It’s almost like they avoid it rather than wetting our appetite.
