Nintendo apparently feels like making ringing in the new year with some changes, because they’ve changed the music on the Wii U’s eShop. You can hear the music here, and compare it to the old music here.

This isn’t the first time they’ve changed the music on the Wii U eShop, they had a cheery Christmas-y tune that played during the holidays. And although that was a temporary change, they’ve had some more long lasting changes as well, throughout most of 2013, this music played on the eShop before it was changed to the tune above in late September.

A little change is always nice, and it’s good to see Nintendo keeping things fresh. We don’t know if this new music is just temporary the holiday music or if it will be a more permanent change, but it will be interesting to see.

So what do you think of this new music? Are you fond of it, or did you prefer the old music? Let us know in the comments!

Starting fresh after the eshop crash?

  • Nintenjoe82

They should get the guy that composed the music for Xenoblade to make their shop music. I swear half the reason that game takes so long is because of the excellent background music making me want to stay in each location.

That does’t sound as childish or kiddy its ok, but I prefer the very first one. It was jammin mon’

    • Rinslowe

I was more like tapping, but dancing in my soul. That’s the magic of Nintendo is it not…

  • jjbredesen

Would like a Zelda tune on there, but this sounds better than the old one.

  • erich80

The Christmas tune was unbeatable… It’ll be missed!

  • wiimenonowiiu

  • PlayboyPacquiao

    Manny Pacquiao approves..

Just a small typo: “this new music is just temporary the holiday music” -> “this new music is just temporary like the holiday music”

    • Rinslowe

Honestly I love that about it…
And I’ve sometimes just left it playing on a loop as it does, the last E-shop tunes being my favourite…

I think you wanted to reply to another comment, I think, maybe Steve Anatala’s?

        • Rinslowe

          Oh… sorry
Still, how do you find it then?

          • darkcreap

I prefer the first tune of the eshop. The second one I do not quite like it. The Christmas one is much better. Very Christmasy, like Colin says. You can almost see the snow, the trees and the raindeers flying and all that.

I think the original eShop music was the best by far, I wish you could pick which music you had playing.

  • Steve Anatala

I like the orignal eShop music the most. I wish you could choose which menu music you had playing.

  • Kiefer Wickham

i liked the older one more cause i would always hum it when i opened the app, the new one gives me no desire to do the same

  • Relick

It sounds like Wii Sports so I think it might be temporary.

Christmas one was the best though hands down.

I loved the original launch music the best. I liked the emphasis on the percussions and shakers. I especially loved the surround sound between the TV and the gamepad, where the gamepad played slightly different instruments. I think this is something more Wii U developers should take advantage of.

Nice, but I think I like the old one better…

  • Coffee

I don’t get why people care, you go to the eshop to buy a game then play it
Anyways I got the original eshop tune on mp3

  • Mccloud88

I like it. It be awesum if they kept changing it every now and then, like maybe when the seasons change? That would be cool.

  • Nils Sundstrom

i think they should have some “judas priest” in the background

  • Andrew W Garttmeyer

I love it. I like the elevator type music playing while shopping. I think it’s soothing. I like the original the best, this one is pretty good (they both have that elevator feel), but the one, I apparently missed, towards the end of last year was good too, just not what I like for browsing and shopping.
