If you haven’t seen the video on Miiverse yet concerning the Wii U’s OS speed then go ahead and check it out below. Nintendo decided to tease us a bit with the upcoming update by making a comparison video. From the looks of it, the OS will be getting a significant increase in speed sometime this month. The difference is quite surprising compared to what we have currently. This isn’t even the last of it, Nintendo has promised another update for the Wii U later this summer which will also optimize the console. One of the major complaints the Wii U has succumb to would be the OS speed and lock ups. All we can see in the video is the game to main menu loading time which we can only hope is indicative of the whole OS. Either way, some quality of life updates is always a good thing and hopefully Nintendo will keep these coming while the Wii U comes out of its launch day woes. What do you think of the difference shown off in the video? Good enough or still to slow? Nintenjoe82 Which games are crashing for you? Mine is basically everything that isn’t published by Nintendo. Tekken, NSMBU and N’land are all fine but AC3, BO2 and especially Fifa and Sonic have been completely unacceptable. Sonic seems unplayable on certain multiplayer configs. Chiwawa none of my games crash. but it froze when I was on miimaker. never again though. Fred Mine never freezes in games, but Hulu Plus freezes all the time Jeffery02 Mine froze only once so far and it was while using the YouTube app. YouTube works perfectly on the browser, but the app is crap. AAAkabob From what I remember ME3 never crashed, BlOps crashed once or twice, google maps the one time I used it lol; however Miiverse is the worst when it comes to crashing. Nintenjoe82 oh yeah. I was only counting annoying had to unplug crashes but I’ve had a couple of miiverse and eshop minor crashes mchelski sonic is my problem too, specially nights scenario mchelski Lego crash once too, but only once Link Slayer Lego has never crashed on me. but AC3 and Miiverse does often! brian murphy had that happen one time to me also when i entered the elevator in the police station i have several wii u games and thats the only time i had that happen ps4ultimania i have only bat man and nfs mw that crash and its rare instances D.M.T My Wii U never freezes, never ever. I have Sonic and I never had problems with it. It works just fine. Nintenjoe82 I must be unlucky. I can crash mine on cue with Fifa and Sonic. mikel334u2 My Wii U crashed several times when I first played Nintendo Land. David Same here, NBA 2K13. I haven’t had a Nintendo published game freeze yet. JumpMan sometimes even Nintendo Land freezes for me! only two or three times tho… but Hulu+ freezes a whole lot, as well as Uplay. i’ve had no problems with freezing on NSMBU, Netflix or any of my demos/downloaded games… Tim van Broekhoven I only had one freeze, while booting up nintendo land val berger AC3 is coooold as ice. freezing all the time. C.S. Bailey I’ve only had a game freeze when I was using a HDD I thought would be compatible. Picked up the PDP one from GS, no problems since. Rockey Chaney Sweet! Can’t wait Levi Johansen still no save-feature when drawing in Miiverse, I’d rather have that… AAAkabob You’re in the minority, be vocal about it Nintenjoe82 Although adding that feature would help me, it would take away some the wow factor of the best pics! John Andalora Cool. It’ll help, but maybe Nintendo should have worked on this before releasing the product. mchelski sometimes only alpha tests aren’t enough, for example, sonic crash issues would hardly be notice by nintendo, only when it goes public Jimmy D. Fugate Is the spring update also the one that will fix system freezing or is that the summer update? Chiwawa im very impressed. looking forward to it. It was a 15 second time improvement. How did they even do that? WiiUltra And theres even another update coming in the summer as well right? Damn Nintendo wasn’t kidding when they said they would improve the OS. Chris Kattner I’m going to bet though, that we wont see this aspect improve in the second update, likely it will focus on other parts of the os. Guest I hope that they fix the freezing of the games I play in multiplayer (idk if it’s the game or the console) cause it’s a real hassle to have to unplug my Wii U JUST to get it to restart. Stenaven I hope they fix the freezing of games, like when I play games online multiplayer, my game will freeze sometimes and I have to go unplug my Wii U just so I can reset it (idk if it’s the game or the console doing it) and it’s a real hassle. ICHI I guess its the console as i and many others are having the same problem with different games. Need for speed and assassins creed are the main offenders for me ps4ultimania lot of games are offenders tho batman and need for speed for me ICHI I know this is probably just a fluke, but i had my wii u on its side. I have laid it flat now and not had a problem for a couple of days? I remembered nintendo saying it was designed to be laid flat, if its upright you have a fan on the bottom of the machine. Hoping it contines to work and its not a fluke. ps4ultimania ull notice issues depends the game but yes it is designed for a lay flat you get the ultimit disc spin just like if u put a ps3 for 360 on its side it will ne get optimal preformand ps4ultimania i honestly think with the increase speed of prossessing itll be better on freezing cuz freezing happens alot with slow prossessing Squid Yeah, this happens with sonic, mickey, and Assassins creed for me. tronic307 Did everyone tell Nintendo about this, and did they tell you to send it in for repair? My Wii U has never locked up, and if customer service is telling you that an update will fix it, I sincerely hope they are misinformed, because if not they are lying. If you have this problem your hardware is bad. Send it in and it will be back to you in 5-10 days. It seems like some people would rather throw their console in the garbage than do this, but take it from me, warranty service is your friend. Nintendo extends your warranty with every repair and while their quality control is far from perfect, their customer service has been exemplary. My Wii warranty lasted like four years: 1. Bought Wii at midnight launch. 2. Got bricked in a year. Sent it in. Got it back with all saves and VC games. 3. Repair was good for another year until the optical drive started making noise and destroyed a game, which GameStop replaced after plenty of fuss. I got em’ on the principle that they like opening new games for no good reason, putting the disc in a sleeve, storing the case separately and then claiming that no one has played it. Maybe I should thank them for play testing the games for me. I don’t quite know exactly what their problem is, but they opened my replacement before they handed it to me, just to rob me of a flawless victory. “Why sure, unwrap my game for me? How very thoughtful of you.” Asshats. 4. Nintendo replaced the drive but likely forgot to turn off WiiConnect24 for the swap. Unit would not power-on from inserting disc. Sent it right back and got a replacement in under a week (overnight shipping) with all data intact. 5. Around 2009-2010 the graphics started having the black dot problem. Nintendo replaced the mainboard with one that didn’t get as hot. Serial number changed for the third time. The warranty has finally expired, but this Wii has been a solid workhorse to this very day. Ironically, both my Gamecubes have been flawless, but then they were made in Japan, not some suicide sweatshop in China. Get your free shipping label from Nintendo and send it in! PROTIP: When your warranty has a month left, complain of a minor problem. You will then have 180 extra days to send it in for whatever repair may become necessary. Hillay I hope that it speeds up the awfully slow loading times of lego city undercover, and maybe help the freezing issues. Honestly, the freezing issue is not too bad but it has frozen on me like 3 or 4 times since i purchased it like 3 days ago and only after i have left my system on pause for a couple hours. Besides this complaint I am having a blast with gta legos. Squid Oh yeeeeah! I didn’t even think of that, what’s your favorite mission? :3 GeDDeN Its faster but I think its only as fast as the Xbox now.. I would like something a little faster actually ICHI I dont know it looks faster than my xbox, my HDD is full and it takes about a minute to launch an arcade game 🙁 ps4ultimania ok thats far asking what i want is not to have the frustration of freezing thats all anyone rly should want idgaf about how fast the console is tho that may be nice D.M.T There’s another update coming in the summer genius. Have some patience. djvalbnc big difference. very cool. 🙂 me1034 This is perfectly acceptable and now comparable to their competitors. Id be satisfied with this. Id rather them now focus on other upgrades like Wii games from main menu and Wii/WiiU virtual console games on the GamePad than further speed enhancement like some here are crying about. Some people will never be satisfied. ps4ultimania on the game pad is possible id think me1034 They’ve already confirmed that playing VC games on the GamePad is on their list of enhancements for this summer. My point I guess was directed those who are complaining that it’s not fast enough. ELt them get the rest of the enhancements out. the n focus on more speed – which I think is negligble now anyway. With this demo, it looks like they did a good job ps4ultimania makes sense and this is just a lil teaser its not the final thing tho so if its good now it should be better later Brandon Betlej I love how everyone is complaining about system crashes. The first big update we got was supposed to fix all of the freezing. But it still happens and thats unacceptable. Then we get all these other random updates that don’t fix shit. Now we get this update to fix the OS. Im almost willing to bet people are still going to have problems. And I can tell you right now I saw the video, its better but still unacceptable. I WAS a huge nintendo fan before this console. To be honest I don’t know how this biggest Nintendo fan could enjoy this console in the slightest sense. Erik Munoz How is that unnacceptable? it takes 7.91 seconds, from when it starts to load and when the menus pop up. i timed my xbox 360s right now and it was 7.27 seconds from when it started to load to the home screen to when the menus popped up And the Xbox’s home screen is only 2 dimensional panels… Squid If anything, you’re impatient for not waiting for a load… >.> D.M.T You’re a spoiled brat. You aren’t satisfied with anything. Don’t expect your PS4 or next Xbox to be perfect at launch. brian murphy what people dont understand all those games they mention that freeze are ports and were rushed out for the launch of the system of course there gonna be issues Brandon Betlej Oh so they’re just supposed to rush the game out just because console release is coming up? Thats probably why no devs want to work with them anymore. Lol @ you nintendo fans. No games should be rushed no matter what the issue is. Have you not heard all there excuses for games not releasing? Nintendo is falling down a bottomless pit Cadrion One of the things that has really bugged me about the whole complaining about system speed is how people seem to forget that the system is brand new and doesn’t have 7 years of software refinment behind it. I don’t think it’s an apples to apples comparison to judge the wii u vs the other systems when you look at the software. The way I see it, the wii u is the wii u- i don’t want it to be an xbox- I like not paying for network access to say…netflix or game updates or multiplayer. Just my thoughts. ps4ultimania holy crap!!!!!!!! thats insanly better Wayne Beck That is absolutely crazy. They literally halved the loading time. Squid Awesome! Isn’t this the same update that will bring us virtual console? therealruben1 nice job nintendo. i wouldnt mind an update on lego city undercover on its loading time audi lover Lock up?? Better stability?? Havent had any problems like that bein playin for over 75hrs and experianced nothing like that at all liamdawe Thanks god for that, I use it for love film and my god it’s so slow!! Johny omg… it looks awesome ! …. scarlet I wish this update would work for LEGO City: Undercover… That game takes WAY too long to load! Møhåmmęd Jårmøn Sweet! That is a really significant change. Only Wiiu owners will appreciate the difference tho. After spend all that time waiting lol Easter_egg27 That is a big difference, and what I have to say is… THANK GOD! Rich Cole Too* Jeffery02 My first thought when I was done watching the video: “Holy crap O_O”. This is definitely a nice improvement. Aamir Islam Hmmm, My Wii U crashed twice. Both after going home from NSMBU. Then when the Mii’s fall on the TV it would crash(lol). Then I would have to pull out the power because the Power Button didn’t work. Tecpedz94 I dont have the wiiU yet and definitely will get it later on and didnt know about how slow it was to launch or close apps that must be a pain… Luckily they are working on it of course and its only a matter of time where they will improve on much more 🙂 MetroidZero Bring a coat when entering MiiVerse…it’s always freezing. dgallo911 I hope they have done something about MiiVerse as it crashes so often im almost to afraid to enter it DemonRoach Who the fuck puts out a video of how the fix will work? LOL. If it’s like normal Nintendo Co. Forecasts, this shit will tank. bizzy gie Clearly, they don’t want purchasers to blindly download this update just HOPING the OS is faster. They want their consumers to know what they’re getting. It’s very considerate and thoughtful. This was weak troll. Looks like you’re having an off week. Either that or you just suck at trolling. Zorbo85 LMFAO exactly a lame video to show load speed differences and an even worse lame flyer showing the differences between wii and wii u!!! Nintendo are slowly losing the plot!! Shazaib Raja If your Wii U crashes often then it might be defective cuz I went to pick up my Wii U on launch day and started playing NSMBU. The first time it crashed, I wasn’t too worried cuz I thought it was just a new system. But after crashing multiple times, I started raging a lot. So, I went down to Best Buy and got mine exchanged and the Wii U I have now does NOT crash at all or at least not yet. IF your Wii U crashes or freezes often, then it’s probably defective. Just Sayin iPedro1000 That’s a welcome improvement going back to the Home Screen. Just as pressing is getting into Settings. It’s ridiculous how long it takes. Navigating the WiiU OS is like tip toeing around afraid that you’re going to hit something that will make you wait half a minute. How come a tiny smartphone can navigate in and out of apps instantly and a powerful gaming console takes so long just to go into something as basic as Settings? A: Bad programming. The WiiU was rushed out and they appear to have skipped OS optimization entirely. That’s what they’re doing now. Hopefully this and the next update improves on that and in fine tuning the OS. Jennero Rossi Finally. This has to come faster! C.S. Bailey That’s enough to make me happy! I work late some nights, and when I get home I have to do a lot of things at once. I’m on my laptop on the patio (no smoking inside), and since I don’t need the TV, I can fool around with the Wii U at the same time. More than once, I forgot that I was waiting for the Wii U to get back to the main menu, and got “lost” in the web. Wiiluigi Woah!!! Zorbo85 LMFAO!!!! The wii u loading problems and having to reboot time after time goes to show once again that the wii u was RUSHED!!! A new console should not suffer from cack loading times a console should be launched when it is 100 percent ready!!! The only reason nintendo stupidly decided to launch early was to get a head start on the next gen consoles which has failed so badly it is hillarious!!! The wii u should have been shown at E3 just like it was shown along side the ps3 at E3 2006!!!! Rushed console and is why pikmin and everything else is being delayed as nintendo stupdily did not realise how long it actually takes to make a 1080p game, mario was supposed to be 1080p but to be in time for launch was a 720p!! Nintendo are screwed and after E3 they will be the laffing stock of the video games industry when the it pales in comparison to the new next gen consoles!!! Brandon Betlej Dude your one of the very few normal ones on here with some actual common sense. I thank you for that Zorbo85 Activision has just shown off next gen graphics at GDC and they look so amazing that they make the wii u graphics look PATHETIC!!! Also metal gear solid 5,New killzone, New COD,new gran turismo and new god of war all ps4 launch titles…..bye bye wii u!!! LOL Zorbo85 Wii u been out for 4 months…………….no one cares or even talks about………..ps4 was not even shown at announcement yet everyone is talking about it…………….and the next xbox is the one that is getting all the attention and that aint even been shown yet either!!! The wii was a fluke, and this time it will be the wii u always stuck in 3rd place!!! Zorbo85 LOL at last years E3 all reggie kept saying was that wii u has fantastic 3rd party support!!!! LMFAO!!!!!!yes of course it does reggie!!! Dominic Coradazzi Damn. that’s a 15+ second difference HEEELLLLL YES. Jim Mack Its good progress but still needs to be faster Matt Jarvis Much needed increase in speed but still not enough to improve sales of the console. Must do more Nintendo. You have the console but you have to market it.It is that simple. We can all see it, so why can’t Nintendo?
