The latest Media Create sales from Japan are in, and the Wii U experienced a nice bump in sales. The console continues to hold the second spot in hardware sales this week with nearly 50,000 systems sold in the region. This is a 20,000 unit increase from last week, which is significant compared to the modest showing over the past few weeks in Japan. Two Wii U games placed in the top 10, in a week loaded with new releases. The long tail sales of Super Mario 3D World continue to rise, with Nintendo’s popular plumber moving 44,000 units this week. Dragon Quest X: The Sleeping Hero and the Guiding Sworn Friend Online debuted at the number six spot with over 70,000 units sold. Not completely an afterthought, the Wii version of the game took the second spot with over 117,000 units sold. From top to bottom, here’s a complete breakdown of last week’s numbers: Hardware Sales 3DS XL – 92,375 (82,409) Wii U – 48,762 (28,518) 3DS – 32,894 (25,964) PlayStation Vita – 25,594 (20,202) PlayStation 3 – 24,085 (13,311) PSP – 4,416 (4,232) PlayStation Vita TV – 3,772 (5,391) Wii – 767 (588) Xbox 360 – 473 (309) Software Sales [PS3] Gran Turismo 6 (SCEJ, 12/06/13) – 204,784 (New) [Wii] Dragon Quest X: The Sleeping Hero and the Guiding Sworn Friend Online (Square Enix, 12/05/13) – 117,432 (New) [3DS] Pokemon X and Y (Nintendo, 10/12/13) – 111,790 (3,200,919) [3DS] Attack on Titan: The Last Wings of Mankind (Spike Chunsoft, 12/05/13) – 93,471 (New) [3DS] Inazuma Eleven Go Galaxy Big Bang / Supernova (Level-5, 12/05/13) – 91,643 (New) [Wii U] Dragon Quest X: The Sleeping Hero and the Guiding Sworn Friend Online (Square Enix, 12/05/13) – 70,648 (New) [Wii U] Super Mario 3D World (Nintendo, 11/21/13) – 43,844 (183,245) [3DS] Bravely Default: For the Sequel (Square Enix, 12/05/13) – 35,617 (New) [3DS] Yu-Gi-Oh! CEObrainz Was VGX really that important? I don’t think it could have impacted sales for the Wii U in any way, unless they showed off something groundbreaking in which case news sites would have picked up instantly….but yeah, it is good that sales are picking up in Japan, just goes to show that you shouldn’t be quick to comment on something until you get a larger view of the picture. jjbredesen Yup i agree VGX was crap and is not important i guess we just hyped it up to much. (yes i hyped it up to) CEObrainz lol too true, E3 is primarily the one event that should justifiably generate hype and any Nintendo Direct within that time period too…. jjbredesen Yeah, but if we get a direct this month before xmas i will get super hyped because then they MUST show something good. CEObrainz Hmm maybe, but it’s next year that’s going to be the year for Wii U with just about every major release for the console happening. jjbredesen Yes it will! Squid The Wii fit My body is ready DLC Jk, I can’t wait to see it happen. Michael DeVore Since the VGX really isn’t a Japanese award show I doubt it had anything to do with the numbers. That, and VGX seemed more like N was deliberately trolling the regular viewers. One thing to keep in mind about Japan is they they don’t have a “Black Friday” starting line for Christmas Shopping, but they do have a lot of Christmas Shopping since it is their biggest couples holiday. Their shopping slowly ramps up as Christmas gets closer. This is very good news since it’s the largest percentage increase of all of them, but that poor Vita TV had negative growth. Even the 360 had positive growth so this is very bad news for Vita TV. Hopefully it’s just a supply issue caused by launch, otherwise Sony has another problem. These numbers are also inline with Rakuten’s sales analysis from yesterday. jay That whole channel is a joke. Ducked VGX had nothing to do with Japan lol The Clockwork Being Well Software sells hardware. Dragon Quest sure is new software. jjbredesen agree 100% without great software i would never buy any console, Nintendo’s main selling point is there great 1st party games. Ken Seymour Are the PS4 and Xbox one not on the list because they aren’t out in japan yet or they are just sold out? jjbredesen They are not out extremethunder They might as well just say “PS4 not out yet in Japan”. I don’t think the XBoxOne is going to do any better than the XBox or XBox360 in Japan. jjbredesen Yeah Xbox has never done good there, Shota microsoft studio osaka is in japan. so it might sell, you never know SomeFluffer64 I think it sold at least 200,000 units last week alone, and since it’s slightly over 4 million, I think it’ll happen. djvalbnc and again 3 Nintendo Systems on the top 😉 erich80 So glad to see Wii U turning things around! I’m sure 2014 will be a wonderful year for Nintendo fans! If you don’t know how good the Wii U is, PLAY DA GAMES! XD On a side note, it is impressive how Dragon Quest X is so popular in Japan: the Wii version sold nothing less than 117,000 units, and the Wii U version, more 70 K units. Wow! Derek Anderson What impresses me about this is that the Dragon Quest X listed in the sales report is an expansion. It seems the expansion moved more Wii U consoles than SM3DW this past week! erich80 That’s true, haven’t realized that probably more Wii Us were moved by an expansion of Dragon Quest X than by 3D World itself! But it always seemed to me that Mario sells better in the West. Anyway, I’m confident that, in the long run, 3D World will do very good in Japan. Derek Anderson I agree. At least at this moment, the sales support that statement. erich80 http://abload.de/img/ivtt7ihz0kmgk76pau.gif Squid Perfect. erich80 Iwata wins! Perfect! XD Ducked ROFL! Erik Now all i need to put is a Youtube clip from Independence Day.. but how? NintenScience Haha erich80 I guess even Mattrick, Yoshida and Ballmer can laugh on that! Dj “Hello….” erich80 “I’m back!” Dj 🙂 Jack5221 I was reading this same story over at IGN, and they threw this in. “It’s important to note that PS4 and xbox one have not been released in Japan” Seriously IGN? For once they post something good about Nintendo, and then they throw their little fanboy defense in. Deadpool U Yeah I swear IGN does that primarily to start wars in the comment sections but that probably would’ve happened anyway IGN users can be so childish sometimes. Simon Stevens Ign are the worst, only when it’s Nintendo is it important to note that stuff, those guys….. eugh Deadpool U Here’s a perfect example IGN reported that there was a rumour that SSB would release in spring but IGN then made a article on how Nintendo told them the rumour is false. There are people now going on about how Nintendo is delaying the game when all Nintendo said was that it’s not being released in spring and people shouldn’t believe random rumours. http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/12/10/super-smash-bros-launching-in-spring-2014 erich80 Fact. Some people act like blind, deaf and dumb puppets, I don’t know why. Nintendo never, ever, gave any clue on SSB release date other than “2014”, which begins in January and ends in December. Simon Stevens They downplay everything Nintendo does, like Nintendo is some kind of inferior child compared to the other 2, what makes it worse is that everyone over at ign is a complete loser who nobody should have to take advice from about anything especially video games, Miyamoto is the most decorated person in animation next to Walt Disney, nobody does it better, nobody has made more successful franchises, they never bring that up though. greengecko007 Exactly what is wrong with a website reporting a rumor that had some basis and following with Nintendo to get the truth? That’s what I’d call actual journalism. Deadpool U There’s nothing wrong with that I’m referring to the people in the comment section at IGN can be childish they’re talking how the game is delayed even though it has no release date and are blatantly ignoring the fact that article is basically saying don’t believe random rumours. NintenScience Exactly. I also cannot access some IGN based websites… Bob Wilkerson Well when they post hardly anything other than Which Console is selling more/winning, which version of the game has better graphics, and other crap that does nothing but fuel the hate of the Console War soldiers what do they expect to get. I think IGN likes being one of the sites that keep the console war alive. erich80 I quit going to IGN a long time ago. Since the Wii era, they’ve been too biased towards Sony and Microsoft. It’s not wrong to have your favorite company or whatever, but it is wrong to work at a big place and let your feelings and personal taste shout out that loud when you sit in front of the computer to word your work. They deliver some good game reviews here and there, but that’s all. And now, Audrey and Richard have left… I liked them. Saul Rivera I actually love hearing their Nintendo podcasts on IGN…and yes I miss Audrey but the ones in the podcast seem passionate for Nintendo…especially Otero ha erich80 It has been passed to me a long time without going to IGN, really. Some folks said that Otero is a nice guy, indeed. So later I’ll check IGN out to feel how things going over there. Nintedward Audrey was the main reason I liked IGN and ever since she left, I left. She had a really characterful writing style. And she was hotter than the core of the sun! I do still read some of their reviews, but I just don’t care much for the site anymore. erich80 Man… Audrey is indeed very talented and so charming… I miss her stuff at IGN a lot. Lucky Nintendo Treehouse guys who now have her around all the time! XD Forbsz how old are you… Nintedward 22. Audrey Drake is hot, everyone knows that. How old are you? Forbsz Only 16 just wondering cause you’re always saying such intelligent things hahaha. Nintedward Oh! thanks bro ^_^ . I thought you were saying it in a negative way because I said Audrey is hot 😛 Forbsz Nah I agree! she is hot. jrob23 Jose seems like a legit Nintendo fan and he does a good job with his reviews. Unlike that clueless Keza greengecko007 Really? IGN is one of the biggest proponents of Nintendo, rating Nintendo software usually higher than other critics. Just because IGN isn’t telling everyone to go buy a Wii U (actually it was the only console on their recommended black friday deals) doesn’t mean they are biased. erich80 Hum, okay, I respect your opinion. And also I’m not saying that I’m definitely right about them, but I feel almost all people who work at IGN die-hard Microsoft and Sony supporters. As I stated before, there is nothing wrong in having your favorite brand, but when journalism becomes to favor one rather than the other, the red light turns on. Anyway, now I’m curious how things been going over there and I’ll make them a visit later today. Agent721 again…it was a bad day. Carry on my good man! erich80 It’s okay, Agent! You had one of those days, but things will get brighter and better! greengecko007 Are some of the journalists die hard fans? Sure, but that’s no different than Ashley King writing articles for Wii U daily as a known Nintendo fan. The journalists keep to their respective areas 99% of the time, unless they get together for shows. They have several good people doing the Nintendo articles, of which I particularly like Jose’s. erich80 I agree with you. There is a difference between Wii U Daily and IGN though: Wii U Daily is a Nintendo-centric website, whereas IGN is not. In my opinion, IGN tends to overlook everything related to Nintendo, favoring the other platforms with a tendentious editorial line. Again: I may be wrong about my impressions about today’s IGN. I still owe a visit to those folks in order to check how they are going. Jack5221 The only Nintendo games that IGN seems to give 9 and over are Zelda and Mario titles. Pikmin got 8.3. Which is good, but it deserves a 9, especially with the really good really cheap DLC. Then they ripped Sonic Lost World apart giving it a 5. (True its from Sega, but its only on Wii U.) If you watch the video review the guy playing is literally dying on purpose. Then they gave the Wonderful 101 a 7.4. Again, this title should have at least gotten an 8 for its extremely unique gameplay, amazing voice actors, gameplay + story. It was that good. Then Zombi U got a 6.3… Bad reviews never stops me from enjoying a game, but giving something a bad review because its exclusive to one console is unprofessional. If you look at the community reviews on most of the games I listed above, you’ll see that the community review is always higher than the “Professional” IGN review. MujuraNoKamen I thought IGN gave Pikmin 8.8. IGN are sometimes good for reviews but as you said with ZombiU, Sonic and W101 they were really unfair. Especially on ZombiU and Lost World, even if the graphics were below-par and the combat was monotonous ZombiU was a refreshing take on survival-horror and deserved at the least an 8. Sonic was reviewed by a fanboy who was bound to hate any new Sonic title and he just made up reasons to hate the game. Even if it wasn’t amazing it certainly wasn’t bad. W101 deserved better too, even if it was too tough for beginners and the controls could be unresponsive, its originality and the sheer entertainment value of the fights was worth more than it got. IGN have their ups and downs but the Wii U hate is obvious aside from of a couple of reviewers since Rich and Audrey left. Efuck@fukce.com ZombiU’s graphics were 1080p with rock-solid 30fps, and featured great dynamic lighting, hi-res textures, and detailed character models. Not “below-par” by any standards. steve the graphics were ok in alot of ways it looked good at times, but the screen tearing and alot of visual bugs were what brought it down, it was a launch game and a first insallment, and with some major polishing a zombi u two could be amazing MujuraNoKamen 1080p or not alot of the textures were a bit fuzzy. I don’t mean to hate on the game at all, I really liked it and I’m smart enough to know graphics don’t make the game. In fact I did notice a number of great visual effects and polished animations in the game it just looked a bit grainy for the most part. I don’t think it looked “bad” at all, my point was – no matter what tiny faults there were with the visuals – it wasn’t enough to detract from a great survival horror game and it deserved a better reception that it got 🙂 greengecko007 So because they don’t hand out 9s, they are biased? I encourage you to look at their reviews of Knack, Killzone Shadowfall, and Ryse Son of Rome. IGN tore apart the first party games from Sony and Microsoft. That’s what good reviewers do. Pikmin 3 is fun, but it’s not as replayable as the other Pikmin games, and not having fruit respawn was an unnecessarydesign choice. Also, the Pikmin AI are frustratingly stupid, and can easily be thrown into areas where they are irretrievable. A score of a an 8.8 (almost a 9) seems more than fair. Wonderful 101 was brought down by poor tutorials, iffy touch screen controls, (and my personal opinion) ugly and over glossed graphics. Its definitely unique, but unique doesn’t get you a 9 on its own. For a fun and unique game with noticeable issues a 7seems perfect. Sonic? That’s just a mediocre game that only appeals to Sonic fanboys, which is the general consensus on the web. Lame villians and story, terrible level design, and buggy controls (like most Sonic games). If you like Sonic, you’ll probably like it, bht not many others will. MujuraNoKamen A lot of the time they give fair scores to Nintendo games but it’s in the articles they trash Wii U. I saw earlier they had an article for “most wanted games of 2014” the picture for the article was of a PS4 and XBox One even though Wii U games were listed in the polls. Speaking of which, X wasn’t nominated for best action title even, I think every Wii U game nominated was only entered into one category whereas other games like KH and Phantom Pain (which almost certainly wont be here till 2015) have been entered in a few polls. After E3, X wasn’t nominated for best game. IGN are trying to hide Wii U and when it is mentioned, they try and put a negative spin on it. Aside from the Nintendo coverage team IGN is pretty fanboy now. Agent721 Bs. I see more negative articles on Nintendo on this site than IGN. They’ve had a ton of features on Super Mario 3D world…here, we got squat. They had a great history of Mario feature just last month, that was awesome. Your assertion is flat wrong…Ill beleive my eyes over your comment!! erich80 Wow… No need to be that hard, dude. Agent721 My apologies…I hard a terrible day yesterday (car totalled & in a totally separate and unrelated incident, kitten sent to hospital for emergency surgery). Too much bad shit for one day…it makes you unnecessarily angry. steve oh wow, sorry to hear all that. hope everything works out dude. erich80 No worries, man! Hope your little kitty gets better soon and also you can have your car fixed without too much headache (that kind of thing is terrible, in fact). Cheers! Agent721 Cheers! Rinslowe Yep, Audrey and Rich were groovy. But Jose Otero is a Nintendo fanboy through and through. Mostly IGN is at least fair these days and on topic. They’re a big operation though and have al lot of experience floating around their office…. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say Peer is a pretty stoic Ninty fan as well… IGN is mostly decent towards Nintendo of late. Nintenjoe82 true NintenScience xd Dave May this site is a 1000 times worse then ign for wiiu bashing erich80 If you dare, take a look at My Nintendo News, specially the posts fed by Sickr. Then you’ll realize what “Wii U bashing” really means. Wii U Daily is a piece of Heaven on Earth for Nintendo gamers. Nintenjoe82 It really does seem like taboo for IGN to criticise EA and Sony whereas they almost can’t finish a positive sentence about Nintendo without some kind of disclaimer. erich80 They usually never criticize Microsoft and Sony, as well as EA and Activision, for example. I’m not saying that they should, but they need to learn again how to do good journalism, i.e., make their criticism regardless of who or what is on the spot. Donaald I love how they use Xbox one to damage control, I guess they’ll never learn that nobody cares about it in Japan. SomeFluffer64 “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE CANT STAND TO SEE NINTENDO WIN! I’D RATHER SEE THE OTHER COMPANY THAT I TREAT LIKE A RELIGION FOR SOME REASON WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Michael Ocampo Maybe they were messed up or maybe not because i saw the sales chart and thought “Xbox one and PS4?” Mitch Hall It DOES sound a little fanboyish, but if you think about it, that’s a very relevant factor. Andrew W Garttmeyer but, is the statement true? Schultz38 So old. Yep, still funny. erich80 It’ll be forever funny! XD Ballmer, Mattrick and Yoshida faces are so amusing! Justagamer Damn…Nintendo of our Lives..LOL erich80 XD DragonSilths Think that needs to be updated. Cause that Microsoft guy quit Microsoft… erich80 Yup, he did quit. Or Microsoft quit him… Whatever. He joined Zynga some months ago. Anyway, it seems that he had to go backwards and deal with that. DarkLegacy Actually I heard that Microsoft guy(aka Don Mattrick) got fired erich80 There is some buzz indicating both possibilities. Regardless, he was a strong advocate of DRM and “always on-line” policies of XOne, even being very hard on Microsoft supporters when asked why Microsoft was taking those moves. I collected some information over the internet few moments ago and found out that, during his days under EA’s roof, he actively took part of The Sims and NFS development teams. steve thats the greatest thing ive ever seen erich80 Same here! 🙂 Jayce “Please understand” erich80 “that we are alive, safe and sound!” Forbsz I was playing mount and blade warband when I saw this so very classical music was playing fit perfectly with this gif. erich80 Mount and Blade seems to be a huuuge game, right? Recently I took a look at the Napoleon DLC campaign and liked it. Don’t understand why people complain about the graphics, though. Nintenjoe82 https://mlpchan.net/oat/src/1384976901808.gif readypembroke Who is the Japanese dude at the end after Iwata? All I can guess is that he is a Sony dude. erich80 Yes, Shuei Yoshida, although Mattrick and Ballmer are better depicted. Fboogey Good News People. I posted this on other articles but I just want to remind all Nintendo fans to buy 3rd party games on Wii U was well as 1st and 2nd party. 3rd party is where Nintendo really struggles and where we really need to help them Reason Multiplatform will never sell as well on nin console so we need 3nd party exclusivse like zombiU Derek Anderson Personally, I think we’re getting to a point where 3rd party exclusives just aren’t financially possible anymore, regardless of platform choice. I would like to see some, but it just doesn’t seem likely. extremethunder Multiplatform games tend to not sell well on Nintendo consoles because 9/10 they are half-ass ports (leaving out effects, engines, features, etc… but charge same price). Its a shame that the ports that are actually done well get buried under the ton of crappy ports. Lord Carlisle Things are starting to pick up for the Wii U… my hopes are rising. Once games like Mario Kart and Smash Bros. come out Wii U’s fortunes may do a complete 180. Nintenjoe82 Doooooommmmeed. Nintedward Said a load of narrow minded twats. I can’t recall how many times I’ve said low sales doesn’t necessarily mean DOOOOOMED! That’s the Xbox and Playstation elitists who say that crap because they’re addicted to drama. They’re the kind of people who watch soaps whilst Nintendo fans watch sitcoms! 😛 They’re all obsessed with graphics and specs and have forgotten what really matters in gaming. This is why they hate Nintendo…. it really is retarded. erich80 Right, the same Playstation elitists which actively keep forgetting how bad the PS3 did for over 3 years after its launch! In time: the PS3 is a great box, and I like it a lot. But it is really annoying how fanboyism can blind people. WolfgangAmadeusMozart PS Vita outsells 3DS marginally in Japan for a week: 3DS IS DOOOOOOMMMMMEEEDD ! Wii U outsells PS3 2 to 1 in Japan for over a month: “Cricket Sound” Elem187 Did you forget to add OG and LL together? WolfgangAmadeusMozart No, during the 10th week of 2013 (between March 4 and March 10), the PS Vita outsold the 3DS and 3DS XL combined, but very slightly. The 3DS took back the lead by the next week, though. Here are the numbers from Media Create. PS Vita: 63,581 3DS: 21,201 3DS XL: 39,801 http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=523311 Guest Succeeded* Agent721 This is a big improvement worth celebrating. I hope it lasts. Agent721 Perhaps we can now hope for The Dragon Warrior NES games to show up on the VC??!!! erich80 That would be amazing. Dragon Quest is a superb franchise. Lord Carlisle Or better yet, a localization of Dragon Quest X? I want that MMO in North America so badly. BIG Franky please please please… THIS! Mercurio2054 4.3 millions! Ducked Good to see sales increasing in Japan. I’m wondering what worldwide sales will be like at the end of 2013 Yousif Alromaithi Looking about this today looks great that Wii U is picking up but my mistake is that I really speculated that I thought Zelda Wii U would come out soon. Anyways good going Wii U. Elem187 Bad guess. Zelda games take time. Eiji just finished two Zelda games (WWHD and LBW), my best guess is 2015. I’ve held that prediction since early 2012 extremethunder WWHD was being worked on by the main team at the same time as the Wii U Zelda. They used Wind Waker to test lighting, features, tricks, etc.. to help with the Wii U Zelda. LBW was worked on by another team under the same director. Yousif Alromaithi I think you are right. I do agree now I do not know what Nintendo will show next year so let us wait and see. Johny Shingeki no kyojin game is out already ? … sweet… now wait for flashcard OR the region lock removal.. stupid… .region… locking -.- … the thing i hate most about nintendo Simon Stevens Evn though I really want Dragon Quest X to be localized, I’m still celebrating Schultz38 Dear Nintendo/Square Enix, Please give us Dragon Quest for the Wii U. Sincerely, The Rest of the World Mario And Kingdom hearts 3. Erik Actually Mario (and i hate to say it).. I got the latest Gameinformer and found the page of Kingdom Hearts 3 and it will be for Xbox One and PS4 🙁 But the release date is TBA so i might have some hope of it coming to Wii U. Jon Turner Also remember that SE HAS NOT OFFICIALLY RULED IT OUT FOR WIIU as well. So we still have a shot at it. Brandon direct x11 consoles. only It aint coming dude! >=( Guest Not convinced. The DX11 was proven false, and it’s not even being run on PS4 anyway, only an Open GL4.0 equivalent. Of course that game is still a long while off, so there’s no point speculating. But either way the DX11 argument was mistranslated and was a hoax. You can say “it’s not coming” all you want, but considering that WiiU sales are improving in Japan and SE has just had another success (DQX2.0 outselling DQX on WiiU!), there’s no reason to give up just yet. At least as far as I’m concerned. Brandon square would just much rather support the xb1 EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE A F*CKING JAPANESE COMPANY!!! >=( PaulyG Speak for your self! Nintendo just make games for xbox! jay XBoneHeads: “Nintendo sucks!! They should make games for MY favorite system!!!” Mario Mario: Woohoo!! I’m the winner!! Alex Does anybody think that we could get all of those games on the list? DragonSilths Good Wii U is in 2nd place. That’s where it should be. Daniel Carvalho Right behind the 3DS! Hopefully, they’ll be competing for the first place with the same amount of sales on the long run next year! DragonSilths So was it a troll or Nintendo Hater who down voted me? What I said wasn’t me insulting Wii U? I said Wii U is in the best place it can be, cause nothing can match the 3DS. So being 2nd is the best place any system that’s not the 3DS can be. Jesus Reyes Is dragonquest x ever coming to the U. S.? erich80 Man, a lot of people would love to hear that… 🙁 Localization issues annoy me… Michael Rowlands looks like ubisoft is dropping the wii u as Tom Clancy’s The Division is not coming to the wii u…..Nintendo need to pull there finger out there ass and do something to get third party support back… NkoSekirei dude ubisoft still supports the wii u and will continue and with the wii u sales going up we might see more games from them and besides were still getting watch dogs its been delayed till next year Michael Rowlands watch dog will be ubisoft last game on the wii u like I said why is the division a game that looks great not coming to the wii u….I am as pissed off as you are this game is not coming to the wii u Elem187 Oh so you work at Ubisoft? Because only Ubisoft knows what they are going to do. Michael Rowlands ubisoft has lost a ton of money….READ THE WRITING ON THE WALL……they are not going to make anymore games on the wii u.Nintendo needs to do something to get third party support back…software developers are just making excuses by saying the wii u is weak and unpowered and we all no that is bullshit..They just can,t be bothered to writ the code for the wii u and put in extra work on the gamepad Jon ok… so they lost a ton of money… on what though? Rayman? the game that sold more on the Wii U than the others so that isn’t Nintendo’s fault. Zombie U was really the only one that ubisoft released exclusive and with selling over half a mil, I cannot see how they would lose money on that. Cat42 Ubisoft went on record in October to say that Rayman Legends sales fell below expectations overall. It may have done better on Wii U than on other platforms, but that was only reported in the UK, (as far as I have read – please correct me if I am wrong), which has a miniscule Wii U install base. Back in July the Ubisoft CEO admitted that Zombi U was ‘not profitable’, and unless there’s been any change of heart or surge in sales in the meantime, there’s no plan for a sequel. However, (@ Michael Rowlands) this isn’t enough to back any claim that Watch Dogs will be Ubi’s last Wii U title. Unless they state that publically, then we won’t know for sure. Jon what about Child of Light? SomeFluffer64 Rayman sold the most on Wii U, so if they make more Rayman games then we will definitely see them on Wii U. Heck, I’d kill to have Rayman 2 Revolution on the eShop. Elem187 We knew this game wasn’t coming to Wii U way back at E3, welcome to 2013, glad you can finally join us….. It isn’t indicative of anything except that the game was never slated for Wii U release. That hasn’t changed. If Watch Dogs cancelled, then you nerds can panic. Andy White I’m kind of confused by the fact that Dragon Quest sold more on the Wii than Wii U but whatever, it all helps out Nintendo! RyuNoHadouken theres way more Wii’s out there Elem187 What’s confusing by that? Isn’t there 10million OG Wii’s in Japan? While only 1million Wii Us? If anything it tells us a higher percentage of Wii U owners bough DQ than Wii owners…. 1% of the Wii userbase bought DQ, and 10% of the Wii U userbase bought DQ Patrick Starman Hurrr, the Wii U should be discontinued in 2014 for low sales. NkoSekirei u should go to the brain dsicount bin i heard their a discount for high intelligence brains maybe u need one troll NintenScience No. Random12multi Your argument it’s invalid Patrick Starman It’s amazing to see a grand total of 2 people saw I was joking. Lee Skilton awwww I’d love my WiiU to be more widely accepted amongst large media outlets but sadly this many sales is really not anywhere near x1 or ps4 sales. There has to be some way for Nintendo fans to spread a more attractive message to the masses but we’re all hiding in Nintendo specific blogs and forums. Sadly MS and Sony fans do a hell of a lot more public advertising and waxing lyrical about their brands than we do for the most part. This needs to change! Jonathan George Anaya I’m happy to see that the WiiU is picking up sales. But, before any celebrates, remember: the other Next Gen systems haven’t arrived. Nintendo has a 2 XMas holiday advantage. Japan should have been a Nintendo stronghold by now with over 2 million sold by now IMO Krzysztof Great news. I just hope the future of Nintendo won’t be the same as the future of next gen gaming. cThreep I sure do like seeing some positive Wii U news. NkoSekirei yep and with super smash bros u and mario kart 8 coming next year and other games as well its gonna be a good year for the wii u Rinslowe Suprise, surprise…. 🙂 Actually I sort of had a hunch about it…. darkcreap This is good. Hopefully, it will continue to sell worldwide after Christmas. I would like to see worldwide sales during the last week. Rinslowe Can’t wait to see download software sales for SM3DW next Jan. lol I’d love to be right about that one. 😛 Elem187 Agreed. How can you not want this on your drive? It’s awesome being able to jump in and out of Wii U games quickly and with SM3DW only 1.7gb, pretty much the whole game is loaded into memory, so zero load times. Rinslowe Amazing what they managed to cram into that space for sure! They say the game was slow to take off. And maybe from a system sales perspective it’s been average in that respect. But I’m almost certain that download sales for existing owners were through the roof… Shota 1,7GB!? for such a beautiful game like this it’s mindblowing darkcreap Yes. The problem of not having download sales is that they distort statistics. Nevertheless, I wonder if they will be high. I rarely take downloads versus retail because of the price. Not that I consider myself as a “consumer prototype”, but I think that it is likely a lot of people considering that too. With New Super Luigi U, though, I went download without thinking: 20€ vs 33-36€ in retail. Of course, there are other things to value. As Elem187 pointed out: you have the game on your hardrive and you don’t have to switch discs. I have thought once or twice lately that I would like not to take the disc out everytime I change the game, as I do with VC titles, Wii Karaoke, Wii Fit U and Wii Sports Club. I do not generally resell my games, but I like to lend my games to friends and family. That thing you cannot do with a downloadable copy (at least with the current DRM implementation). I also download only titles that I want and are available as “download only”. My perception is that current pricing for downloads is fixed artificially to benefit retailers. Rinslowe Ubisoft prices are artificially high, Nintendo’s are consistently at the top end of acceptable. But I bought a 1TB drive just for the U. Probably a good 75% of my games are download. I don’t mind it personally, being a little high for Ninty titles… darkcreap Yes, I guess it depends on consumer value. If you think it is more comfortable for not changing the disk, then it is great value. For me another added value is availability: last gen I wanted to play the Wind Waker on my Wii and couldn’t find an unused copy (I am a bit picky on that), but couldn’t find it because they had become “collectionist items” and you couldn’t find them for less than 250€. Used copies were like 60-70€. I thought then: “it would be great to have it in the WiiU virtual console or anything, just no more copy scarcity anymore”. I do not quite like piracy. I discovered it, believe it or not, thanks to piracy itself. If I like a game, I buy it no matter what (respecting my economy in that moment). If I do not like it, I do not keep playing it (I get bored), so for me piracy is useless. A game I like is a game I feel the need to have in my collection as a respect to developers and the game itself. Rinslowe I can relate to that. My reason for going mostly download was due to a crime of passion (lol) so to speak. When I was on vacation in NZ last Dec I picked up a Wii U on impulse and totally forgot about region issues. So, most of the games I get if available by download so not having to wait for the original to be delivered. Being in HK. There are a few places where I can go, but they’re really unreliable in content. E-shop is simple, problem solved IMO. PaulyG Can’t wait to see xbox one sales boost up even more! Zuxs13 Well since this is Japan and No one there cares about Xbox i wouldn’t get too excited for Japan Xbone sales numbers when it finally releases there. only god can judge me Keep up the good work nintendo enjoying my wii u its amazing when you play mario 3d world you can blow on the touchscreen and watch it effects take place on the big screen that too me is next generation. devmiles really nothing next gen to that.. that is so famicom 1985 PaulyG You’ve said it! Wii U is nothing but a gimmick. jay Blow on your XBone controller and see what it does! Wayne the original DS could do that.. only god can judge me Not ps4 or xbox one LukeBlackburn Airplane attendant: hold onto your seats ladies and gentleman we’ve just started a STEEP incline. Rinslowe “Pachter!! Where’s Pachter?” “Hey you! have you seen Pachter, Michael Pachter – we’re on in 5″… “You saw him where?”….(running to the window where down below, Pachter seems to be gunning for his car) …. “Michael!! Where the hell are you going man?” … Pachter: “I, I, I ah…. Returning DVD’s”… SleepySkullhead Toad is traumatized because he knows what the blocks are made of. Random12multi Sales are picking up yeshhhh lilmc01 FULL STEAM AHEAD!!! http://playertheory.com/images/sized/images/nintendo-hype-train-624×351.jpg BL4CKWAT3R Check out this indie game in the making! It will have gameplay mechanics similar to that of Metroid, Deus Ex, and Crysis. They will go live on kickstarter in January! Lets show some support to the indies making games for our console! 😀 Revenshift.wix.com/reven bd-lt-dnkr Gah, what an annoying name. “reven” BL4CKWAT3R Lol Reven is the god of torture. It thought it was pretty cool. 🙂 bd-lt-dnkr I guess. It’s like half my brain says “Reven” and the other half says “Raven”. Reminds me when everyone spelled Windows 7 “Se7en” grrrrrrrrr Donaald Nice going! Kristian Kouvo IGN stands for: “IGnoring Nintendo”. I say: ignore IGN! devmiles IGN confirmed the PS4 is the fastest selling console of all time. Whatever happened, mario is not gonna save the Wii-u. It’s a fun colorful game, nintendo worthy and fun.. but short and they could have implemented so much other stuff. Nintendo’s main kick in the butt should be about launching a console, listen more to customers and implement more things of this current time we live in, be realistic and sharp. I do see a lot of wii-u’s on ebay and 2nd hand websites now. Despite the fact that i will keep my wii-u since i’m a collector, it will remain a very mediocre machine that will never reveal it’s true potential. Ofcourse you wait for zelda or if we are lucky even a metroid but the stack will never be big. I hope nintendo really got the message for 2013..your policy and output sucked bigtime..i hope 2014 will be a better nintendo year but you will never ever beat sony. you see it right from the start, these guys know how to promote and market a machine plus implemented all new nowadays features we do want. nintendo online sucks big big time InterTreble 21K… 28K… 48K… This is called a very good trend for Wii U. And this is exactly what I tried to explain to somebody here, receiving only very stupid replies (Gonzales in particular) give time to Wii U, games are out now, console sells will follow. According to them Wii U must be addressed as doomed otherwise you are blind, fanboy, etc. Facts say I was right, and their replies were a total fail. Rinslowe If you were to modify your finger pointing and show a little class. I could agree with you 110%. 🙂 Not that, that is a special achievement in any way, but I’m sure others would like to agree with you in future as well… It’s a good point, Wii U sales are on the rise. Good quality content is now available and there are multiple reasons to own a U right now. Price, content, infrastructure and community etc… This was mentioned in an IGN article: http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/12/12/playstation-4-had-largest-console-launch-in-history ” Nintendo also reports a 340% increase in Wii U sales in the U.S. in November.” And… http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2013/12/npd_results_deliver_a_3ds_milestone_and_modest_wii_u_sales 215,000 software sales for SM3DW – 8 days for the “US only” is a decent effort… InterTreble You’re right, friend. I don’t live for the +1 in a blog, but you are right. It’s not a matter of class, in my opinion, because I just wanted to distinguish correct critics which I accept like yours and let us starting good conversations, from the offenses of others who can’t accept having a different opinion from theirs. He also offended me for some mistakes, even if I told him I’m not mothertongue. As we say in my country: “I wanted to take a little stone out of my shoe”. For the rest, I’ll comment as always, without pointing any finger, since it’s not the reason why I generally write. In this case yes. But the message arrived also to somebody else, considering your witty and perfect reply! 😉 Rinslowe Well truth be told we’ve all had our run ins there… I have to tell you now, I detect no sarcasm from you whatsoever. And your approximation of my inherent wittiness is duly noted, naturally. Perfect being a little over the top. 🙂 PaulyG As a typical delusional fanboy would say “it has begun!” After a year lmao fail Gabrielsen Fail? You seem to be forgetting that not only Nintendo has had it’s issues. Remember Sony and the PS3? That was a nightmare. They managed to dig themselves out of the hole and Nintendo did the same with the 3DS. Everyone compares the WII U to the WII which was 1 of the best selling consoles in video game history. I don’t think the Wii U will climb that high on the list, but in a couple of years the number will probably me somewhat the same as ps4 and one. Even if it doesn’t Nintendo can make another console without any issues.
