Nintendo Wii U onlineNintendo recently revealed that its Wii U and Nintendo 3DS consoles would be getting a unified account system via the Nintendo Network. However, a Nintendo of America spokesperson has now clarified on that statement. Charlie Scibetta, Director of Corporate Communications at Nintendo of America said that there is no official announcements regarding “a unified online account system between Wii U and Nintendo 3DS”.

Speaking to GamesIndustry, Scibetta only confirmed that they’ve announced the Nintendo Network as a “unified network platform” for the their systems, which include the 3Ds and the upcoming Wii U. He denied the existence of a unified account between the two consoles. He did add that more features of the new Nintendo Network will be revealed at a later date. Nintendo fans responded positively over the report of a unified account system — a single Nintendo Network account that could be used with both their 3Ds and the upcoming Wii U console. We’ll have to wait and see what Nintendo has in store for us on that front.

Over the past console generation, Nintendo has been lagging behind the competition when it comes to online services. The company is improving their online infrastructure and are looking to redeem themselves with the Wii U. The Nintendo Network includes online multiplayer, eShop, apps, and lots of other features. Nintendo is even considering a paid, premium Wii U online service with added features. However, the company made it clear recently that the basic Nintendo Network and online features will always be free.

Ok. Id rather wait to hear more concrete info when it comes around. I don’t find it a big deal.

    Dear Nintendo,

Online is great, unified online account system would be immaculate, but above all things…. The games.

The games must be what make the Wii U great. The entertainment and uniqueness which birthed the manifestation of what we call video games.

Perhaps this is a bad analogy, but in a manner of speaking, Nintendo is the original vampire while others are half breeds. Great half breeds none the less… however Nintendo, I look forward to seeing you, The Original, wide awake with your Wii U and showing the half breeds your true power!

Why so many thumbs down? I’d guess those that aren’t true fans of Nintendo would disagree, namely Sony and Microsoft followers.

“However, there is no current announcement concerning a unified online “account system” between Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, which suggests payment implications that Nintendo is not ready to confirm at this time. We hope this clarifies any misunderstanding.”

Doesn’t mean it won’t exist, just hasn’t been announced.

Argh, that’s just stupid Nintendo. Why would owners of the two consoles want two different accounts?? And if we have two different accounts, why would we want to have two different lists of achievements, scores, etc. to track??? And if there’s no unity amongst the profiles, how on earth are you going to run smash bros. on Wii U and 3DS which will “…have a very important communication system between the two consoles.”?

Seriously guys, don’t do this. One account, one network, multiple consoles :). Simple >>> complex.

It;s obviously got leaked too early, they just want to officially announce it them selfs.

      Your right

I personally dont give two shits about online, at the moment I’m more interested in the spamming of amazing game after another.

I want a library of awesomeness much like the super nintendo where every game is a gem 🙂

Hell the miiverse is all I really care about online wise, besides 2 accounts means different things meaning more gameplay value from both systems 😮 which is fine by me.

  • Envy

    I don’t think the 3DS has an account….?

  • Captain Falcon

Or ya know… Nintendo could be denying the truth. 🙂

  • mac

It could still happen. Personally I hope it does but it won’t be the end of the world if it doesn’t.

Nintendo doesn’t exept IDEAS but it seems if we make a RUMOR popular, then Nintendo (or whoever) may reply and hav some thots. At the least, they will know wats on our minds. 😀
