Today Nintendo updated Wii Sports Club Golf to include 9 holes from the original Wii Sports Resort title. This update is being pushed to Wii U owners right now. Above you can see some footage of the new holes in the title.

As a reminder, a 24 hour pass for Wii Sports Club is available for $1.99 if you want to try the new holes without purchasing the game. If you want to buy it outright, the cost is $9.99. If you already own the game from a previous purchase, the update will be free for you.

Did your favorite golf course from Wii Sports Resort make it into the new update? Let us know in the comments.

This ‘HD’ version is a joke. Way too expensive for what it is. 10$ for one sport? Really Nintendo?

Graphics suck. I mean, I know it’s Wii Sports, but there’s no reason this game isn’t 1080p and has so much aliasing. Texture filtering is piss-poor, for example, in Golf, the grass is all blurry and smeary everywhere. Almost no visual improvements. I mean, they could have easily improved the lighting, depth of field, special effects, weather effects, etc.

    Not many modes for 10$.

Really poor product by Nintendo, I’m surprised to be honest.

    • Gameonfool

It should be cheaper or there should have been more improvements as you mention

      • MerryBlind .

Exactly my point. My complaints are relative to the price.

        • WiiUPS43DS

I say atleast 3.99 or 10 for the whole game not just one sport

    • Nope.avi

Why would you be surprised? If Nintendo is anything with the Wii U it’s lazy.

      • MerryBlind .

Well the quality exclusives are definitely there, but it’s lacking in everything else indeed. Thankfully, I bought a Wii U mainly for the exclusives.

        • Phillip Fauble

I didn’t really realize it at the time, but I did as well. I was hoping to be able to have a Wii U and no other ‘next-gen’ console. Now I’m just buying games on Steam for PC. Aside from the Wii U exclusives anyways. I also got my Wii U launch day. it didn’t take long to realize they still weren’t getting third party support.

          • MerryBlind .

Yeah just having a Nintendo console for a whole generation isn’t really enough for most ‘gamers’. Nintendo exclusives are amazing, but that’s all you get. I love Mario and Smash, but I still want to play The Witcher, Assassin’s Creed, Dark Souls, etc.

I say PC+WiiU is the best way to go, but PS4 instead of PC seems like a good alternative too, but I prefer top graphics if I can and actually really like Steam and some PC exclusives like Path of Exile or Dota 2, so PC it is for me!

My only gripe is that $10 per sport seems overpriced. But I’m not gonna skip out on the game due to poor graphics, it’s a dang Nintendo family golf game, I can’t think of too many ways in which graphical improvements would somehow convince me to buy it.

      • MerryBlind .

That’s my point. 10$ is too expensive for a barely enhanced version of the Wii originals.

        • cthreep

Amen. And I’m saying even if the game looked amazing, $10 would still be too steep to merit my purchase. Maybe $15 for all three sports and you’ve got a deal, Nintendo.

          • MerryBlind .

Indeed. It should have been 5$ per sport, with much better visuals and a bit more modes.

Is 10dollers really a lot of money? Its the only game i play with friends so ive had my moneys worth out of it 20 times over i think 10 bucks is cheap

        • Rob Bean

I’m ok with $10 for golf, because you get nine new, never seen before, holes. I would have hesitated if not for those. No way would I pay ten each for tennis and bowling. I’m also glad they didn’t force people to pay $15 or $20 for all three.

      please understand

there is a clear difference between the two. Stop with the hyperbole. You can see it in the swaying of the trees, the sky, water, and grass. I think because they simply put lipstick on a pig so to speak it can only look so good. I am sure if they wanted to they could have spent a whole lot more time and money to do so but they know it wasn’t going to matter with sales. The changes are enough to warrant a buy, that is, if it was $4.99 a game. I agree that $10 is way too much

      • MerryBlind .

Look… I have nothing against the aesthetic of the game, I’m saying it’s crap from a technical viewpoint. Like I said, there is NO reasons for this being only 720p and have no texture filtering whatsoever. The WiiU is plenty powerful to handle Wii Sports….

But the big problem is the price. Not only should it be a better product overall, but it should also be 5$ per sport rather than 10$. Now if what we got now was like 3$ per sport I wouldn’t be complaining, but as it stands, Wii Sports Club is a total rip-off.

      • The trees look like shit though.

  • Dark-Link73

I haven’t used the free trial for this game. Perhaps I’ll use it tonight and then use it again next week! 😉

    • Shota

the you have 48hours of free use 🙂 nintendolife comment lol

      • Dark-Link73

Yep to both! I’m on both sites so whenever they post the same news I simply copy and paste my comments whenever is appropriate. I use my cell so it makes it easier for me, which in turn explains why I have so many typos. Stupid auto-correct, lol.

Sometimes retailers want to get ahead of their rivals and start selling/promoting games before the official launch date (remember how retailers everywhere in the world were selling Pokemon X & Y before the launch date?).

It could be true, as retailers have to know the official launch date so they can set their schedules for that product, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they took that off a few days from now because Bayonetta 2 won’t be out until the middle of second semester. As far as I can see t, they’re only trying to get people to buy their products now and wait 6+ months to start delivering them (profit now, product later).

      • WIIU305

True but it is starting to trend that gift cards are included with certain games. You get $10 so the game is $49.99 with no taxes and free shipping.

        • Daniel Carvalho

Well, either way I suggest you wait for the official release date to be announced. You may not only have to wait too long for your game, but when stores finally have Bayonetta 2 in stock, you might find better deals. Not to mention they could even say the time between launch and the deal for the gift card was so long it isn’t valid anymore (here in Brazil this might happen… way more often then you can imagine!).

          • WIIU305

Newegg gives you like a digital gift card. I have done it before with them. Same day of preorder you get the card. Usually don’t preorder from them but for discounts like this I don’t mind the wait. We been waiting for over a year now, might as well…lol

          • Daniel Carvalho

Well, if you thrust the store, then be my guest. Either way, I don’t believe their release date is correct – we have heard too little about Bayonetta 2 for it to be coming this soon. I believe we’ll only see a release date at E3!

          • Fred

It is coming that soon…in Japan, but not here.

  • A SNES Day Off

HD by resolution, but the poly-count looks identical to the original Wii version. Pretty lazy in all honesty.

    • Daniel Carvalho

Wii Sports U has the same problem I keep criticizing about PS3 and Xbox 360: HD in resolution, but the effort put on it is no different from a non-HD console. In the end, it’s all the same.

Come on, Nintendo, we saw what you can do with a HD console on NSM3DW, Pikmin 3 and Wind Waker HD! Make something worth our money!

  • David Trail

I really want these games. Any chance of all of them coming to a bundle some day soon? I think it makes sense.

  • Nintenjoe82

My problem is that, besides Tennis, the sports don’t need online to be simultaneous. Online bowling and golf are a slow affair so the Sports Resort versions are almost as good. Would be an awesome freebie but £9 for a game I already have is too much.

  • Joey

Awesome, i love Wii Sports Resort, i never complain about anything, i owned it from day one Wii Sports Club Golf. Nice seeing an update for free.

  • Saul Rivera

You know I saw the game updated and I opened it…but didn’t know what changed…it didn’t say a thing when I started it…

  • Kevin Welch

On an unrelated but related point… Does anyone else get frustrated that you can’t pull the pin? I’ve had so many shots bounce off that stupid pin from a fringe put or chip!

  • Robert Butters

Awesome, I love wii u golf! If you haven’t tried the new sports games, do it! The gameplay is better than the originals

  • lonewolf88

only sport I’ll be getting is boxing.
