Wii Party U for Wii U

Nintendo will be launching Wii Party U this Fall, and they’ve just announced the
full package: the game will include a Wii Remote Plus controller, and a GamePad stand. And it’ll still retail with the regular $60 price tag (we expect). Talk about a great deal. And the box looks wonderful, too.

Wii Party U was announced back at E3 in June, and will feature the well-known Nintendo party game layout, with a board that consists of minigames. In all, Wii Party U will include over 80 different mini games, according to Nintendo. Some of the mini games will be playable on the GamePad alone.

Wii Party U is the official sequel to 2010’s Wii Party, and launches exclusively on the Wii U on October 25. It supports up to 5 players in offline multiplayer — one player uses the GamePad, while the other 4 use the Wii Remote.

  • Jon

But…but… I already got 5 Wii Remote Plus

    • Kevin Sepulveda

I’m sure there will be a version available which includes just the game. Or maybe a digital version which obviously will only include the game. The stand will probably be sold as an accessory for anyone picks either of these two possible options.

      • Jon

yeah I figured that. I just wanted to say that. as for the stand, I already got one, came with the Deluxe Wii U set πŸ™‚

        • Tom Carson

looks to be a stand that levels it while it is laying on a table, check the picture, playing 2 player table games maybe.

          • Jon

oh right… I didn’t even notice that, I though it was just like the old stand… looks pretty interesting….even though it is just a hunk of plastic πŸ˜› But it will probably make a lot of the mini games easier.

          • sd

does anyone even use the stand that came with the deluxe? I just plug my gamepad into usb and chuck it on a shelf.

          • Tom Carson

I have the charging stand in the living room and the plain stand in my bedroom for when I take the gamepad to bed. Works out nice for me.

          • sd

My house is too big to go further than my living room to the toilet. I need an extra 6 metres of range to be able to take it into my bedroom or second living room. Its a bit frustrating, but maybe they will release a range extender, then I might use the stand in a second room.

          • Tom Carson

They just might do that. I love nintendo, but they are becoming like apple. They release slightly upgraded stuff once its already outsold itself. I predict an HD gamepad at the very least.

          • Martijn Plasmans

            I guess you don’t have Pikmin 3 πŸ˜‰

          • sd

Yes, one of my all time favourite games. Amazing game.

          • Martijn Plasmans

When you play Pikmin with the Wiimote, setting your gamepad in the stand in front of you so you can look at the map from the corner of your eye works very well.

          • sd

Okay admission. I never played Pikmin with the Wiimote, I only played it on the gamepad. It took me 53 days to collect all fruit and complete and I think I lost 1000 Pikmin, which seems a lot to me, but this is the firts Pikmin game I have ever played. I only bought Pikmin as I was desperate for a game on the wiiu. It was an unsure and reluctant purchase. But it is one of the best games I have ever played. I dont even know why and could never explain it in a way that would explain my enjoyment with it. If you like Pikmin you might understand that. It is also the only game that I have played for 8 hours straight in years, it was that good.

          • Fred

I use it all the time for Netflix. It’s great for watching Netflix while I’m eating breakfast or washing dishes

          • sd

Dont make me jealous. We don’t have netflix. We have a crappy alternative that has barely any digital films and charges you a hire fee for anything released in the last 18 months. Also Nintendo are yet to make any of the features work in Australia.

          • Fred

sound like I already did make you jealous.
Can’t you at least use YouTube?
If not you can watch BYUtv on the Wii U’s browser there’s a great show called Studio C it’s very funny similar to saturday night live give it a try just google BYUtv and start watching episodes of Studio C it absolutely FREE so you might as well try it.

          • sd

I will have to see if that is available. Many US broadcast and tv sites block IP addresses from abroad. Its a pain. But I have U torrent to fall back on. To make it more frustrating all of the actual bricks and mortar dvd stores are closing down, which leaves me with little options.

          • Fred

Well i can tell you BYUtv wants to be an international force so give it a try I’d be shocked if it didn’t work for you

            Here’s that studio c show I mentioned

That and college football are the main things I watch that you’d be interested in. The other on is American Ride, but it’s a show about US History so you may not be interested in that one, but I know other people that really like Granite Flats and Turning point

          • sd

Ok it works. Thanks I will check it out to see what they have.

          • Fred

No problem I hope you enjoy Studio C

    • disqus_sgtob6da3X

Tell me about it. I got 8. 4 motion plus including the skyword sword one. and 4 regular wii remote. And i thought the price was $50.

      • Fred

The price is $50 and I also have 4 remote plus so I’m hoping that it’ll be cheaper on the eShop without anything I’d go for $40 on the eShop

    • Fred

I’m waiting to see if it’s cheaper on the eShop

    • RandroidRampage

You can give me the extra one, I need another to make 4 once I get the game.

  • Merrfn

I have 4 Wii remotes. Only one of them works. Thats what I deserve for buying 3rd party Wiimotes at GameStop I guess…

    • Jon

I bought all mine of the actual Nintendo store online, I never trust 3rd party stuff anymore.

      • Merrfn

Yeah, I only bought those crappy remotes because they were cheaper. It was after I initially bought the Wii U and some games. I was broke.

        • Tom Carson

I bought a wiimote plus set, generic china junk from ebay, for $10 (nunchuck and wiimote+). It works, but every once in a while, it will freeze and I have to take the bats out and replace.

    • Andreas Sunde
      • Merrfn

Story of my life. Out of the one controller that actually works, the motion control always goes crazy on my screen. This bundle will hopefully push my mother to buy some official Nintendo Wiimotes…

  • LopsidedPasta

We all know that this worked very well in the past (Wii play). I think Nintendo is trying to replicate its success here.

  • Schultz38

I LOVE when controllers are bundled with games. Such a steal!

    • Tom Carson

I want a gamepad HD with a new zelda game bundle! πŸ™‚

      • Schultz38

Yes! That would be amazing. Like how the SS pre-order bonus had that amazing gold wiimote.

But I doubt they’ll bundle gamepads anytime soon because of how expensive they are to make. :C Oh well, one can hope…

  • Ducked

    Actually it’s $50, not $60.

Now I can have 2 gamepad stands, and a extra Wii remote that I’ll trade in.

    • If I am not mistaken the gamepad stand that comes with Wii Party U is made so that the gamepad will sit flat, instead of upright like the current stand that comes with the deluxe system. I could be wrong.

      • Ducked

Actually looking at the picture, it does look that way.

    • Squid

Yah I have a ton of Wiimotes now.

      • Ducked

        Yeah, there so cheap now.

  • 00EpicGamer00

I’d get this game for the free motion plus remote πŸ™‚ (since I have only one working remote right now.)
But as for the game itself…I don’t know, I never played Wii Party, so…..maybe I’ll rent it. I admit that it does look kind of fun. πŸ˜‰

    • Merrfn

I haven’t played Wii party and only have one working remote as well. I can only imagine it to be Nintendoland on steroids.

      • jay

Wii Sports Resort is Wii Sports on steroids.

      • 00EpicGamer00

I think this game will be more “Mario Party like” than “Nintendoland like.” To me, it looks like Mario Party, just with Mii’s instead.

    • C4

If you never play Wii Party and they reuse some games it actually adds more value to the new game πŸ˜‰

I don’t know what to expect either. Personally I’d like more “serious” MP games like pool, chess or sports (like Wii Sports)

      • 00EpicGamer00

        Yeah πŸ˜€
I’m not sure why, but for some reason this game looks good to me. And I usually don’t play these type of games either (except for Mario Party.) But, the only thing I have in the back of my mind is, will the mini games be fun? Sure, it says it has 80+ mini games, but are they worth it? Since I never played a party game with Mii’s before, I have no idea what to expect.
It’s kind of like this feeling where you want to like it, but you’re still skeptical about it at the same time.

  • Shaco

    im in that picture

  • sd

Its a good offer but i wonder how much digital only would be if you dont want another Wii mote.

  • Wii Party is easily one of my favorite Wii party games. It ranks right up there with Wii Sports in my opinion. So I have high hopes for Wii Party U. The fact that it comes with a Wii Remote Plus is just an added bonus to what I am sure will already be a great party experience. This game has the potential to bring in the casual gamers ten fold if it retains all the great features that made the first one so lovable and if people who enjoy it really start talking about it. Wii Party U will at least hold everyone over until Nintendo gives us all a proper Wii-Sports sequel. North American’s can preorder at GameStop and get it at $49.99. Which is a steal for a game and wii remote plus.

    • Merrfn

“Wii Party is easily one of my favorite Wii party games” You may wan’t to re-write that…
I know what you meant but still πŸ˜›

  • Sdudyoy

Well I wanted this before but now I can’t see how anyone would doge this deal, a game, a free Wii motion plus (40$) and a Gamepad stand less exiting but still awesome if you ask me.

  • david jarman

I’m in! A frew friends over with some root beers and its game time!!!!!

  • e_rocket

Yeah!!! this will be really fun to play with the family, and it will come with a remote plus, I’ll be getting it!!!!

  • Guest

Fuuuuuuuuuuhh I didnt want this game πŸ™

    • 00EpicGamer00

…..So, don’t get the game. Very simple answer to your conundrum.

    • jay

Is your mom getting it for your birthday?

      • Jay-Russell

I believe he meant he didn’t want this game before, but now he’s forced to get it and spend money as it looks amazing.

  • jay

Nintendo should just make a smart stand that shape-shifts and throw it in the Wii U box.

  • Jake

At first I thought it was the stand from the deluxe so I thought I could sell it and make some cash from eBay. Then I saw the box art and saw it was different. Not
Upset but would have been nice to make some money :/

    • Squid

I don’t think Nintendo wants to sell something that you will resell.

  • I have read on other sources the game, the WiiMote plus, and stand will retail for $49.99

I will most likely pick this up as my wife loves these mini-game type games… They can be fun to play when you do not have a whole lot of time that you can dedicate to gaming.

  • Petri

Been looking to add some motes, but it has just felt a little bit too steep to go beyond the 2 I seldom use.
I was going to get this game, and this makes it a great deal.

  • Ernie Sanguyo

This is perfect for me. I have 3 wii remote plus, 2 wii plus motion. I like remoteplus more than the first one they’ve made. Wiimote plus motion kind of suck after using it for a while.

  • Διονύς84

Another stupid name by Nintendo. It should have been U Party or Party U

    • C4

      Or U Party U πŸ˜€

  • Deadpool U

I was already planning to buy Wii Party U but now it moved up on my list.

  • Non_Specific_Action_Figure

Well, that’s cool and all, but, I know I post alot of off topic stuffs, but, since I am Non-Specific, I have an excuse. So, onto what I was saying, wouldn’t it be cool if The Wind Waker HD came with the Wind Waker?

  • Srpg2ishere

80 different mini games?! A Wii Remote Plus controller?! A GamePad stand?! …Awesome! XD I’m getting this now.

    • Magnus Eriksson

There is a good reason they are doing this. Nintendo wants to make as much money as possible getting rid of the stock of Wii Motes from last generation. They are probably realizing that motion gaming is so outdated and as the Wii U is a failing product this is a quite clever move from a business perspective. When Nintendo ends their Wii U project one or two years from now they dont have to worry about huge stocks of controllers that nobody wants. A qualified guess is that Nintendo will either get inspiration from XBox kinect system, or realize that the superior gaming mode on PS4 is the way to go. If they will make a new console that is. The gamepad experiment could be viewed as a step towards developing games for Ipads and mobile phone. Highly respected analysts have suggested this earlier, so there is quite a big chance. Then everyone could have a Nintendo on their mobile phone. Think about the possibilities. Playing Zelda, Mario and DK on other devices? Everyone would have a Nintendo in a way then. And best of all. Nintendo could price their games at a much more suitable level, competing with games as Angry Birds and the like, when they dont have to overprice them to justify abmyssal console sales. Its a win win for everyone πŸ™‚

      • Marcus Navarro

        ;_;7 Salute the Satire.

      • mch

“Everyone” can play Nintendo already. Just buy their great system that comes with great games. It is worth it!

  • Antar RodrΓguez

its great, i just wish nintendo starts deveoping a software to let a wii u handle at least 2 gamepads

  • That stand looks like it’d be good for spin the bottle: Bumpie’s Party as well!

  • uPadWatcher

Nintendo REALLY knows how to make one FUN party! Just wait until Wii Party U launches next month!

  • Mochlum

Totally unrelated but I found this hilarious audio post of Luigi talking about the Year of Luigi.

On a related note, I’m probably gonna pass on this game because it releases 3 days after Sonic Lost World and LEGO Marvel: Super Heroes, two games I care about much more.

  • Kimberly Shipley

Someone needs to a little research before they post their article. Gamestop shows price is $49.99.,28zu0

    • Andreas Sunde

Its John Kinsley. He wouldn’t know journalism if it slapped him in the face.

  • Jack5221

This is what I love about Nintendo. They make these fun party games that bring the whole family / group of friends together. NintendoLand is a bast, looking forward to this one!

  • AlCaPwn

the fact that nintendo is still using Wiimotes on the wiiu, and not even changing the design of them to be unique to the wiiu, adds to the confusion tht ppl still think the wiiu is an accessory, dont get me wrong, i love that i can use the wiimote on wiiu games. xD i just think they should have atleast made them look different

  • Ballzbeard

People are going to buy this expecting it to work on the Wii…

    • Andreas Sunde

Then they come back to the store to complain, the clerk tells them about the Wii U, and they go home with a new console.

      • Stoenk

Or return the game because they don’t want to pay 300 squids

        • 00EpicGamer00

You can’t return a game once it’s opened.

          • Stoenk

yeah ok but I really doubt the majority will buy a new console just for this game

          • 00EpicGamer00

Yeah, I know. I’m just saying that if someone were to buy this game, thinking that it can play on the Wii, then later finding out it’s a game for the Wii U, they’ll have two options, buy the console so you can play the game, or have a useless game you can’t play.
Cause, (at least where I live) if you buy a game and open the seal and/or box, you can’t return it. The only thing you can do is take it back, and trade it in for a different copy of the game. This is for in case the game is “broken” or there’s some sort of problem that you absolutely need a different copy.

    • Kimberly Shipley

And if they’re that stupid, they deserve to be out the $50 and we don’t need them as Wii U players anyway.

  • Moving Pixels Enthusiast

Nintendo really needs to stop advertising the Wii U with the Wii Remotes. People are still confused about the Wii U. When they see this box casual gamers will think it is a Wii game.

    • springer85

EXACTLY…….%80 of consumers still think that the Wii U is just an add on for the Wii……and then they release a Wii U game with a free WII CONTROLLER?

    • 00EpicGamer00

How would people think that this is a Wii game? It has a huge Wii U logo at the top of the box. And it has a picture of the gamepad.

If they’re confused about this product, then they should do research before they buy it. That’s what they should do with the Wii U itself. People keep on assuming that it’s just an add on for the Wii, but that’s why they should look it up on the computer. I realize that not EVERYBODY has access to a computer, but come on, like 90% (the 10% being us) of the world has no internet access? Seriously, why don’t people just research the thing?

      • Moving Pixels Enthusiast

I agree with you, but a good majority of the casual gaming market still thinks the Wii U is an add on to the Wii. This game is targeted towards the casual market and advertising it with a Wii remote is going to make them think it is a Wii game. I want to see an advertisement on TV that states outright the Wii U is a completely different system than the Wii.

        • 00EpicGamer00

Yeah, sad as it may be, it’s just the world we live in. In fact, I remember one time we went to Toys R Us, me and my sister wanted to go look at the Wii U stuff (this was basically right after the Wii U launched.)
So, we were looking at the games, then this lady came up to us and asked “do you know where the Wii stuff is” or something like that. And we said that the Wii was over here, and the Wii U was over their (we weren’t exactly sure which she was talking about.) Then, right after we said “Wii U” she said “what’s a Wii U?” I’m telling ya’, I had to really contain myself from laughing out loud. I hope we didn’t screw up what her kid was asking for xD

  • Baum γ€Œγƒ„γƒͺー」

    “just announced”?
I knew about that bundle for like a week, maybe two…

  • Mariokartfann

  • springer85

LMFAO!!!!!Great idea Nintendo give them a free controller that is 7 YEARS OLD and what EVERY Wii came with!!
Seriously ANOTHER epic fail lame idea!!
How about giving away a free Gamepad to entice consumers?
    Free Wii contoller?……Epic Meh!!

    • Squid

Do you want to pay over 100 bucks for a game? I don’t think so, I know a lot of people have broken Wiimotes, and to give a free one along with a stand for the gamepad, the game has something called “Table Games” where you play these little games on the gamepad such as foosball, a stand isn’t a bad idea and neither is a Wiimotes because not all Wii U owners will have one.

    • 00EpicGamer00

Umm, have you seen how small the box is? A Wii U gamepad wouldn’t even fit. And there really isn’t a purpose to have two gamepads right now, since there’s no games yet that you can use two gamepads with. I’m pretty sure Nintendo is waiting for sales to pick up a bit, then they’ll make games that you can use two gamepads with. I have a feeling that some of the future games will be playable with two gamepads. Like, maybe Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (since only two people can play at one time, I think this game would be perfect to start with), I think most likely Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. will have the two gamepad option.

    • C4

Not every Wii U owner owns a Wii πŸ™‚

In fact it’s great for Local Multiplayer. Personally I prefer playing with GamePad or the comfy Pro Controller if possible though.

      • Petri

Somehow I enjoyed playing New Super Mario Bros/Luigi U with Wiimote more.
Maybe because its reminded me of good old NES.

  • springer85

The Gimmick U can not even handle 2 Wii U controllers for the same game…..Only one can be used and the other people have to use WII CONTROLLERS!!
Is it any wonder why people still think this is just an add on when you can use 3 Wii controllers with every Wii U game and only 1 Wii U Gamepad?
Seriously Nintendo need to fire Iwata and fast or they will become the new Sega!!

    • NintenFan2013

      yea whatever

      • springer85

Yeah whatever the Gimmick U is dead and you know it!!

        • NintenFan2013

          Trolls these days. Sad.

    • Guys, please don’t even bother to reply to this little son of a b*tch. Seriously, just don’t do it. It’s not worth consuming your precious time at all…

  • Zakariyya Al-Quran

If you look at the box the stand seems to be for the gamepad if you want to lay it down on a table so it can be even

    • Yousif Alromaithi

Zakariyya add me sorry I did not reply because I was busy. My account is liverpool since I was busy. I just got back school.

  • Squid

I’d buy this but it’s not in my budget, I need the money for Sonic, Mario, Wind Waker, and DK.

  • Deezy

hmm, interesting. maybe next yr ill get the wii u… after I get the ps4 first. you know we all got a little nintendo in us πŸ™‚

  • andrewjcole

Sounds like a good deal! I might pick this up.

  • YiyeUniverseMB

Wow! People will really be able to know the difference between Wii and Wii U now!

  • SonicLucario

This is pretty cool but I dont think Ill be picking this one up, Im gonna wait for a Mario Party for WiiU πŸ˜‰

    • MysticDude97

You will buy it. Nintendo demands it.

  • Ice Climbers

Off topic, but does anyone know what the games in Nintendo’s lineup run at in resolution and frame rate?

  • snsoto

    its 49.99 πŸ˜‰

  • Christopher Westcott

Will this be any fun? I’ve never played a Nintendo “party” game… What are the thoughts here?

    • MysticDude97

If you have friends, who’d come over to your home, then prepare to have serious fun. If you’re a loner… well, then, take the lemons.

    • Elem187

mysticdude pretty much cleared that one up… its a party game, you need friends and family for it be fun.
If you try playing by yourself you might think “ehh thats nifty I suppose, meh”

  • Pablo LavΓn

The new stand is… … Confusing btw?

    • Kody Wheat

I think the new stand will be used to hold the GamePad level, because normally when you set the GamePad down, it tilts to one side.

  • MysticDude97

YES! Nintendo, you’re doing it right!

  • Gooby

Anyone want toο»Ώ drop any spare cash to Ghost Song: A Journey of Hope so it can be on the Wii U go to kick starter it has almost reached its goal

  • wober2

I really wish nintendo could of squeezed out mario kart or smash bros for this holiday season. Something with robust online play. I just cant imagine this will do very well and does not really pander to nintendo fans or core audience and I think the casuals wont be looking for it…
