It’s all about the Wii U these days, but Nintendo has another console that it just launched: The Wii Mini. It’s basically a stripped down Wii with no SD card slot, no Internet connection, no backwards compatibility of any kind — it just plays regular Wii games. But it’s a great buy for $99, especially if you have yet to play any of the great Wii games, such as Super Mario Galaxy and Zelda Twilight Princess. But the Wii Mini wouldn’t be of any use to you if you have a Wii U, which is full compatible with old Wii games. Either way, check out an unboxing of the Wii Mini console below.

No internet connection, no gamecube compatibility, no SD card slot.

I feel bad for any child who receives this for Christmas.

  • Mickey Mouse

I can see the appeal of it for some people, but I need my internet connectivity.

  • Tucker_16

I’ve got mine.  Worth it just for the Wiimote+ and the nunchuk.  Plus that collector’s value.

  • Brett Bates

Hmmm… No internet connectivity, but I wonder if you can still get it by plugging in one of the old Wii LAN Adapters into the USB port.

    • ceramicsaturn

That’s a very good question. Daily, can you answer this for us? If this has a work around for the VC I’ll buy it immediately.

  • I want that WiiMote & Nunchuck for my Wii U.

  • I would buy for three reasons, 1. Collection value. 2. The red wiimote+nunchuk. 3. It’s a perfect fit with my red pro controller I got with Xenoblade Chronicles. It’s sexy 🙂

  • Luciano l.irigoyen

I like it just for the red color… I don’t care about the Internet conectivity, since I don’t use it…

Lol Nintendo makes their handhelds bigger, and now making their consoles smaller?
    It’s so legit

  • D2K

This kinda reminds me of the old Snoopy Game and Watch cabinet design.

Of course that was orange instead of red, but the feel of it is very similar.   I miss having that BTW.  🙂

  • Zach Albright

To me it sorta looks like a ps2 slim. 🙂

  • EvanescentHero

Damn do I want that red Wiimote and Nunchuk.

  • ObiBoing

God the only thing worth it in that are the Wiimote and nunchuck reminds me of the Red Wii special edition I used to had.

  • Jeffery02

Seems like Nintendo is just trying to cash in on the people that cannot afford the Wii U and never got around to playing Wii games. I’m not gonna say this is a bad move for Nintendo, only that it’s not for me. I’ll stick with my Deluxe Wii U definitely! 😀

  • Classic!

  • tommarvolo124

say hello to an unhackable wii you need an sd card to hack and they took care of that

  • salam semaan

it’s only 30 dollars more for the regular version….. what?

  • This will be a collectors item…look at the Top-load NES….came out after the SNES..the SNES Junior (or SNES 2) came out after the N64…..the color N64s came out later in the life cycle of N64 and are more desired…now this Wii Mini after the Wii U

  • Assassinated23

What is the user interface like? It wouldn’t make sense to have the channel system like the normal Wii, as only the Mii channel and photos don’t need internet, I think.
Can it even receive system updates?

    • Srpg2ishere

I saw the system menu. It had the disc channel, mii channel, and a help channel. That’s it.

  • What a waste of plastic. With all the necessary capabilities they have removed (network, backward capabilities, no memory slot etc), its only worth $60 at best.

I like this thing and it looks amazing.  It reminds me of old school gaming in the internet age lol.  I would by one just for the fun of it if it was out in the states.  Too bad it only came out in Canada lol.
