The Wii Fit U free trial is well under way, but there are reports of people’s game locking up while attempting to transfer data from Wii Fit or Wii Fit Plus. We have no idea how common this error is but if you are experiencing it, luckily Nintendo of Australia has your back. Apparently Miis in the Wii U Mii Maker that are used in Wii Fit or Wii Fit Plus are causing the error. Here’s what you’ll need to do to stop the lock up from happening:

1. On the user selection screen, highlight the user.
2. Go to User Settings.
3. Tap Next to enter the user’s password.
4. Select Change Mii and choose a new Mii character from Mii Maker.
5. Delete the user’s original Mii from Mii Maker.

Strange that Miis seem to be the cause of the lock up, but for anyone experiencing this problem, here you go! Let us know if it works for you.

happy to report that my family hasn’t had this problem…. glad they came out with a fix so quickly for those that have….

I haven’t seen the problem at all either, though I’m only on day 3 of using the meter.

Ahhhhhhh!!! Another picture with the precious gamepad on the floor in front of a person on a BALANCE board. Wii Fit U is a really great deal during the fee trial promotion, but I’ve decided to stick with the original Wii Fit being I don’t want to step on, drop, or get my gamepad all sweaty. LOL It’s not like you can go purchase a new one at the store for $50.

You could avoid the games that have you put it on the floor, or you could do what I do and put the GamePad on a raised surface like a crate, footstool or a coffee table.

True. When I tested out the trial I’d put the gamepad on the gamepad stand on the coffee table behind me when I didn’t need it.

Maybe it has to do with the fact that the Wii U Mii maker has more options that the original Wii Maker doesn’t have?

    • bizzy gie

That makes the most sense. Any Miis with features that the Wii doesn’t have will probably cause a lock-up.

I’m glad to know this wasn’t a problem for me.

I’m a skinny guy, so I’ve always avoided stepping on one of these lol

I tried transferring my data from Wii Fit Plus to Wii Fit U, 3 times. Each time Wii Fit U froze. I eventually gave up. I probably should have called Nintendo but I didn’t even bother because I was eager to play it. Now I’m not even sure if I want to bother with transferring my old data. Although, I will miss my gold piggy bank.
