Well, that didn’t take long. A day after Nintendo said they would unveil the Wii U console colors next month, a Nintendo rep said to hell with it and already confirmed what we expected: the Wii U will be available on both black and white colors. It’s unknown whether both version will be offered at launch, but it looks like it so far. Nintendo customer service rep Jay Dean broke the news by answering a user email, saying,

“Finally, I can confirm that the Wii U will be released in both Black and White.”

Granted, this doesn’t mean that Nintendo has officially, 100% confirmed the above statement, as it comes from a customer service rep and not the usual PR channels. But it’s happened before where reps of this sort broke news. Everyone was pretty much expecting both colors to be available at launch, since Nintendo has been promoting both of them evenly. Yesterday, Nintendo said that Wii U console colors would be announced in September, which means there’s at least one Wii U color. We’re guessing that Nintendo classifies “black” and “white” as colors — even though they’re technically not — and hopefully both variations will be available at launch.

Which Wii U would you prefer, black or white? Or perhaps something more… colorful? Let us know in the comments section!

    Black for the win.

    • Lixdy

      Black all the way

    • AKA-Link77

Hell yah! Thank the stars that they confermed it…i was getting a bit worried. XD

    • Ultimate Cheez

      Dam people can’t wait

      • gNat

        black or red
im putting my wii u next to my wii which is white

        • EPICGAMER111

          black forever

  • Moon-Doggie

Red so it can match my 3ds 😀

  • Potato Salad

I want a white Wii U. It just looks more high tech.

  • x

  • ninjabake

Black Wii U @ launch. Gotta play Batman with a black controller lol

  • Zeldazero

My question is I saw mentioned somewhere there might be a difference with each version, if true what could it be? Pack ins or internal storage perhaps?

    • Raul

That’s all just speculation. Nintendo have not mentioned anything about that.

    • Cedric

I was thinking the same thing.

    • Alienfish

I really doubt it. Unless Nintendo decides to break their mold and release differing hardware packages. If there is a package deal it will be released later and not promoted alongside the initial launch product, which will probably be barebones with maybe a pack-in game like Nintendo Land.

      • Zeldazero

I’m hoping Nintendo Land will be a pack in game but as of right now I’m not very optimistic this will happen…

  • Lugo

Black, because it matches with my black GC.

  • Nick

I don’t really care about the color of the system, but I like the black gamepad better than the white. I’d really like a system and gamepad modeled after the NES, like the mockup shown in an article from a while ago. I don’t see why the controllers are all monochromatic. I’d like it of the buttons and sticks were grey, or maybe blue on the white gamepad and red on the black gamepad. In any case, when games supporting multiple gamepads come out, I hope they release some new gamepad designs. I like to have one controller that looks different than all my others to be my controller (like the translucent purple N64 controller).

    • TheRedSnifit

Black and white look cool with colored lights (like an XBox controller), but don’t look very good with “plain” colors (except each other sometimes). Black and red in particular is a non-no.

I don’t know, black might have finger prints left on it once someone touches it.

    • Gamer

That does not make any sense. The Black attracts “hard core” drones and xbots, plus old nintendo gamers.

  • Undecided

I like the black model, but it wouldn’t match my and will fingerprints be more visible on the black one?

    • jamin

actually, i played a Wii U (at an experience) and the black one left no fingerprints at all. i’m sold.

      • xXFloydianXx

I highly doubt a black Wii U console or controller can be fingerprint-free. I mean really? Oh, and the only reason it seemed to you that there was no prints was because of the low lighting at those events, or too much glare going on from the environment around you. Trust me, the black unit will be a fingerprint magnet, as long as its not matte black.

Oh, and the sticks on the white Gamepad will turn yellow, as did the ones on white nunchucks.

        • Ahchoo

I had my Wii and nunchuck for years, and my joy stick never turned yellow… I think you may have a slight problem and need to get it fixed. I don’t know for sure what it is, but a tip would be to stop the smoking and hand lotion.

  • trainerblk

(SOB) Thx you Nintendo. for you great dedication to make us fans happy i’ll be picking my wii u up at nintendoworld for your honor. day one even if i got to stay outside the store for a day or so.

  • CaptEd

I dont really care if it comes in rainbow striped. I just want one 😀

  • ZMW

Going white, unless a silver one comes.

    • Funky Monkey

Black or sliver. Black matches y other electronics and tv. Silver matches my Gamecube. I still have one that works.

    • Aaron

SIlver would be great, or how about a Stainless Steel Version, That would be So Cool!

  • Raul

Probably white to match my wiimotes… However, that red looked so sexy…

  • Akuago220

I would personally love a cobalt blue Wii U, but I’d probably get black.

  • SehxualPanda

Once you go black you never go back.

    • Shadriczo

      your comment has win.

      • Ahchoo

        His name is win.

  • Disciplelicious

It’s what’s on the inside that counts, but white. It’s clean, classy, and Nintendo. Everyone else does black, only Nintendo does white.

    • Douchuumen

There are actually white PS3’s and Xbox 360’s, not to mention white PSP’s, PS2’s and PSVita’s. So white is definitely not Nintendo. Black ftw.

    • Crapcake

      You forgot about apple

  • JP

I remember seeing somewhere that someone tweeted at Reggie and asked him if black would be available at launch and he said yes.

  • Paul

my moneys on the white version but hmv sales staff said theres 2 i can choose from

  • Ledreppe

The title of this report is mis-leading, it made me think the 2 colours would be available at launch, but until you read the report it hasn’t been confirmed if they’ll both be available at launch. I’m no nearer knowing whether I’ll have a choice on day 1, *sigh* I’ll just have to wait until the announcement next month – roll on September.

    • Paul

there will be two colors on offer when the release date comes around which is black and white

  • Roy

Can’t wait to get the black one 🙂

  • Noah J.L.

It was shown at E3 and it took you until now to figure that out!?!?!?!?

  • Hi8us

I’m getting ZombiU and Arkham City so definitely Black Wii U.

  • yorgen

    silver and gold 😀
    would be bloody awesome

  • AO1JMM

I see the Black version being sold out with a quickness. lol

  • Brayden

If we could choose any colour I would go that red one any day of the week.

Out of Black and white I have a dilemma… I have a white wii and wiimotes, but I think that the black would be better (so it doesn’t go brown).
I hope there are pack-in’s to make the decision for me otherwise it’s going to be a very difficult choice!

    • Paul

if you pay a little more there could be a black wii remote inside

  • Gamer

I am buying both a white and black one. For my girl and I.

  • Case

Black but I will be fine with white if that is all thats available.

  • Superobed

Blue would look sexy as hell

  • Colton

I really like the black. That’s what I’ll get at launch.

  • sharks345

A rainbow wii u FTW, and fuck off all other colors

  • Ricardo

I don’t care about the color while there is more virtual console games available to buy than those in wii (like donkey kong 64, or killer instinct for SNES), and also to be able to play them in its real aspect ratio instead of been streeched like wii does, the same apply to some wiiware titles that are streeched as well. It would be nice to have an option in settings to active or deactive streeching the games from 4:3 to 16:9 for those people who want them streeched.

    • jamin

      *stretched. *stretched! *STRETCHED!!!

      • Ricardo

ha ha ha ha ha ha i didn’t notice it was wrong written!!!!!

        • Ricardo

i mean misspelled ha ha ha ha ha

      • me

        Fuck off spelling police!

  • shadowfan2z

Actually, this is wrong. They confirmed that White and Black Wii Us’ will be available at launch. It’s still unknown if other colors will be available sometime later… just saying. :/

  • gPadWatcher

I’m gonna purchase the black Wii U and play it loud, game it loud…

    SAY IT LOUD!!!!!

  • Jetty

I’ll aim for black(or hopefully red), but will settle for whichever color isn’t sold out during launch. I’m okay with the pro controller having different colors.

  • 007 1/2

black, blue or silver all the way.

  • 007 1/2

    black seems shinier than white.

  • 88MilesPrower

I was very disappointed when they said that there where going to be new colors before and then didn’t tell us any. I envisioned crimson, navy blue, vermilion, chartreuse, razzmatazz, obsidian, smalt, zinnober, albicant, pavonated, modena, puce, lutescent, madder, lurid, jacinthe, icteritious, and the most important, of course, amaranthine. Everyone i know was holding out for the amaranthine Wii U.

    • SanPharaoh

Serious question: Did you get lost in a crayon box recently?

  • ConCity Soldier

Somebody just might be getting fired.

  • Nitro

    The future is black.

  • brickster

I CANT FREAKIN CHOOSE!… i like the black gamepad but like the white console, lawl i dunno.

  • chito.

    I want the black 1

  • KKiONI

Black one for sure. My experience from having a white Wii has made me learn the colour white shows dirt quite well.

  • will

It will be cool 2 have a limited edition gold or green WII U.
    keep on going Nintendo.

    • mistarobotics

How about a Zelda limited edition That comes with a Zelda game playable in it???

  • Melk

Getting the black one. It would be racist against myself to get a white one…

That, and black always looks better.

  • Bob Singh

  • ax-el

I want an undead special edition of ZombiU console with some bites or claw slash in the console and with red blood motives or something jajajaja

I buy any color but i don’t know, the with is easy dirty and the black, if it’s like the one in the picture attract dust for static (like 360 slim), so i don’t care anyway i buy it in the first week.

  • Swic11

I would love a purple one with lime green LEDs on it,, that would be the shit IMO. But I will settle for the black, everything else on my entertainment center is black, so it will fit right in. And the other great perk is (like others have said) it doesn’t really show dirt nearly as much as white

  • SuperSonic 128

Black all the way, black is beautiful lol, & does anyone know if the Wii U’s disc slot will glow blue for messages or not, because I love the glowing disc slot on the Wii console?

    • Paul

better get your pre order down asap as soon as nintendo put a price and release date the black version will be sold out in a matter of hours

  • Sikora

    Black to match my PS3

  • thenintendoman

gold will be good. or silver. they are likely to use the 3ds colour scheme. i hope so. white and black are getting a bit boring now.

  • KingsizeMK

    The future is Black 😀

  • Bravyoura

Dark colours are the sensible choice over the years my wii’s gone from a snowy white to a kind of cream colour with a strange yellow tinge around the fans anyway I’ve gone off topic I vote for maroon with amber LED’s, classy.

Maroon’s pretty unlikely but if we (UK) only get black and white initially there are plenty of people who mod consoles for decent price so I’ll just do that.

  • Frankensavior

I’ll stick with white. It contrasts my black entertainment center, and tv. I find black consoles to be boring and show too many finger prints. However it does appeal to others. So that’s great for them. As for white showing dirt, or the wii’s nunchuck turning yellow. I’ve never had that problem. Then again I take regular showers, and wash my hands. Anyways either way can’t wait to get a white pro controller as well! Going off topic. Does anyone know if Transformers Fall of Cybertron is going to be ported to the Wii U? I’d really like to know.

  • SanPharaoh

Off topic, but judging from all the comments that get voted down I’d say we have a few haters among us which is starting to prove my theory: Those who hate are usually just afraid to show their “like”. Them young pups ain’t got no respect these days.

  • Grodus

    My perfect wii u:

a combination of black, white, red, blue, sky blue, orange, green, purple neone yellow, regulaer yellow, *5 YEARS LATER* emerald green and blue the color of sonic. Or just red. whatevers easier. Hey, whats the Wii 3!? 😉
But out of these, I pick black. Black: FTW!

I would pick black. But I would like the chance for a purple or silver, so in that case, then purple 1st, then sliver, then black. Or even a combo color like purple and black, but that is just me getting crazy.

  • Michel

I’m getting the white one and all games

  • ronan

  • maybe your mother

  • xarret

black please but a metalic red or blue would be awesome.

  • mistarobotics

Would be nice if there was a limited edition Zelda one that came with a Zelda game for it. Other than that I’ll get the original white to match all my Wii equipment

  • Epicman555

    me obsessed with wii u

  • ncv144

Black so it matches my 3ds, gamecube, laptop, phone, tv, desk, and tablet (all of em in black, need to change the router tho)

  • ed

blue wii u would be cool but im not sure if ill get it on launch or wait untl a mario themed one comes out or a zelda themed wii u

  • PenguinGames

Black. But if we ever get a colour like the epic red one Wii U Daily made I’d like that! 😀

  • joesatmoes

idk which looks better-the black or whiete. white is more o fnintendo’s usual color, and it does look cool. They probably made the black one for “hardcore” players, and it lookss cool too. if that sexy silver one comes out by christmas (when ther r sales 4 the wii u- and that is if it ever comes out) ill get it. but black vs white… they r both awespm ;ooking so idk which to get. but does it rally matter what color it is? no. but yet it matters so much. if u get the white one, you will prob wish youd bougth the black one in a couple of months, and vica versa (its not just u, its human nature’s natural emotion, jealousy)

  • SavingUpForTheWiiU

The red looks really, really stunning. However, the red Wii U won’t be coming any time soon. So I’ll just go black.
(Hopefully a Third Party releases a Crimson/Red case. I’m so buying that if so.)

  • Ahchoo

    Fuckin’ purple.
