Ever since YouTube functionality for the Wii U browser was disabled, I along with other Wii U owners have been displeased to say the least. Visit the YouTube community in Miiverse and you’ll notice the apparent outrage. There is, however, a temporary workaround to this problem: just select a video for viewing and add “_popup” at the end of the word “watch” in the video’s URL. example: http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=iXXS3kEKkpw Tap “OK” …and voila! There should be YouTube goodness on your gamepad once again. Source local_offer Nintendo wii u wii u youtube fix stars Further Reading Nintendo loses patent appeal, ordered to pay Nintendo was brainstorming about Switch when me how come my youtube still works on the internet browser? me oh wait, nvm video on youtube dont work, but if i try to watch a youtube video from another website, it works Megan Allen its youtube’s update Alienfish It USED to be the best way to watch Youtube, even over PC, simply because you could keep searching videos as the current one played. Stupid crap is all I can say about it now. Mickey Mouse Why has this happened, I don’t want to have to use this workaround every bloody time I want to watch a Youtube video. Nintendo, bring it back the way it was. Johny thanks =) but WHY did they disable it ? >.> it worked FLAWLESSLY … it was just too good … hopefully its not some kind of propaganda to force us to use the youtube app.. which.. in my opinion could be worse, but is still utter CRAP in comparison with watching youtube via internet browser. memk For those of you that don’t know. Nintendo did nothing. The update on youtube’s website caused the browser to fail on playing its videos. JumpMan i have a stupid question. even though Nintendo did nothing to cause it, do they have to do something to FIX it? memk Its now fixed Hugh Isaacs II It’s not Nintendos job to fix, it’s Googles. izzy1985 That’s what I would like to know as well. I have a feeling you’re right though; they just want us to use the youtube app :/ memk its now fixed youtube adapted back. Sidney Majurie Yah, Nintendo didn’t do this, it was youtube’s site update that caused this. My guess is that they didn’t like the fact that Wii U browser user weren’t forced to see their countless ads before watching a vid. Just my guess though. You can also just highlight and delete “watchv?=” and type “embed” in its place. I find it easier.I’m very surprised this fix wasn’t posted on Wii U Daily earlier. I knew about this the exact day YouTube stopped working, which was days ago. Héctor I. Rivera Negrón ohh thanks. we are back. man sorry but the youtube app is not good at all. Sidney Majurie WiiUdaily, It’s things like this that make me love you 😀 Sidney Majurie YOUTUBE DID THIS NOT NINTENDO SO PLEASE STOP CRYING AND BLAMING NINTENDO. THANKS 😀 Nintendofan22 The fix is great but does someone know how to watch in hd? I’ve tried adding &hd=1 at the end of url but does not work… lusky3 Ok, sure, Nintendo didn’t break it. YouTube’s update broke it, blah blah blah. But why do you think the update didn’t break Firefox, IE, Chrome, Safari, etc? It’s because the Wii U’s browser is poorly coded. So Nintendo does have to fix it, and it’s their own fault. Hugh Isaacs II The Wii U browser runs the same rendering engine as Safari and Chrome (WebKit), so in terms of coding it’s essentially the same browser. It’s just unpopular right now (as the Wii U just came out) so most sites don’t acknowledge it’s existence yet.
