There has been a lot of news surrounding Watch Dogs lately, but we’re finally happy to report on some positive news. Last week a rumor surfaced that the Wii U version of Watch Dogs would be cancelled, thanks to an Italian GameStop refusing pre-orders for the game. That later escalated to GameStop’s around the country in the United States, which prompted Kotaku to check into the issue. It turns out an error in the system was refusing pre-orders, rather than Ubisoft having cancelled the Wii U version.

There is still no solid release date in mind for the title since being delayed last year, but it looks like we’re one step closer as Aidan Pierce’s voice actor has chimed in on when Ubisoft told him they’d be finished doing voice recordings for the character.

Are you excited about the game?

I would be cool if the wii u gamepad shows, what is on Aiden’s phone.

    • Skelterz

you know what would be cooler if ubisoft can stop tickling our clits and just fuck us with all there amazing games ahhh i can’t stand waiting jeez <3

      • Wighead

That message is not classified PG-Nintendo and cannot be approved for release.

        • Gameonfool

Wiiuwiiiu here comes the Nintendo police.

Lame I know but couldn’t resist

          • Skelterz

yeah man wtf its just a joke lol my comment got flagged i think as inappropriate?..how lame is that.

    • ~OMEGA~

i think that’s what they’re doing. i remember hearing a while ago they were talking about the wii u version and said that the gamepad was perfect for the hacking nature of the game i dont remember which article it was though :/

      • WiiUisgaming

I hope the article is true.

        • ~OMEGA~

here it is 🙂 oh and he doesn’t say that actually how they’ll use it they say they’re thinking of how they’ll use it

          • val berger

the thing is, that as long as companies like Ubisoft or even EA are telling stuff like, how great their games do look or play like on the WiiU, that doesn’t really say anything about what they actually think. Ubisoft may say, the gamepad would be a natural fit for their game, but stopped developing for the WiiU. Of course they wouldn’t say anything negative about the system, before the launch of their upcoming game. Even EA who’s already out of the WiiU-game still tries to officially claim, who much they do love Nintendo, while we already got some impressions of what they think internally. Texts like these are just marketing. Actually, after Ubisoft managed to do quite a nice version of Splinter Cell Blacklist, I wouldn’t completely write this off, but wouldn’t give it too much credit either. Let’s just see what the actual product is going to be like.

I think, if Watchdogs gets delayed until june/july, then it may hit the WiiU after a possible Zelda-E3 presentation which could drive some hard & software sales …

      • val berger

I’m afraid it wont be. expect Watchdogs to just be a WiiU game, like Assassin’s Creed with a map on your Gamepad. They once mentioned, they could do everything that’s possible with the Glass/Tablet/Smartdevice-support with the WiiU Gamepad, but they don’t have enough time for this. Although that was before the game got delayed, I don’t believe they would put that much effort into the WiiU’s version and keep it a straight port, as it won’t be selling too good anyway. Sure, it would be nice and in general, games like these would be quite nice to really make use of the gamepad, like Arkham City AE showed. But in the End, Nintendo would have to create something on their own to fully support the pad and until now, they are the ones who barely making real use of their own technology.

        • Sydney Ultrasyd

Yup, I’m loosing my expectations too. From what a friend of mines who works at Ubisoft told me … -_-

          • ~OMEGA~

            what did he tell you?

          • Sydney Ultrasyd

That the team working on that game is “deep in shit, so late”, that the delay wasn’t just to avoid ACIV and GTA5. It’s just very far from finished. And that, as for Assassin’s Creed IV, the Wii U version will be secondary. AC IV was developed by an extra team (Ubi Sofia /Bulgaria) and didn’t meet the expectations, while they told us that it would be just between next gen and PS3 / Xbox 360. Also, he told me that no one at Ubisoft really cared about the Wii U and that the console is a joke between them :'( I precise that he doesn’t work on Watch_dogs, but on AC serie.
Still, I’m waiting for that game !

          • val berger

quite sad, but nothing that really surprises me.

          • Guest

do you really wanna know? 😉

        • ~OMEGA~

enough time? i assumed they started work on this game as soon as they got the dev. kits but isn’t a completely different developer working on the wii u version? so wouldn’t they have had the time & resources to put toward this feature? how long has development for this game been going on?

          • val berger

What I meant is, that time isn’t the factor, holding the WiiU devs back. Ubi Soft just don’t want to pay more than necessary for the WiiU version, that won’t sell anyway. And no, I’m not a hater, I’m gonna be one of the first ones to buy that game for WiiU if it’s worth it, I just don’t think it will sell and understand if Ubi won’t implement too much fancy features as this costs quite some $.

          • ~OMEGA~

yeah but if they’re doing it with smart glass and vita maybe they’d do it for weeeeeee you? (wiiu)

    • Tecpedz94

Hmm i wouldnt be sure weather i want to play on the pro controller or the gamepad but i guess like you said if they show something real cool on the gamepad screen then it be worth using we will see.

  • So this game is not coming out until like late summer/fall 2014 now then? That’s one hell of a delay

    • WiiUisgaming

Yeah, when Ubisoft delayed the game I expected the game to be releases on february or march.

      • Me too. I didn’t think they would need to do the voice acting when they said they wanted to polish up the game.

I hope the game is worth it for those that want it but I must admit my interest in it is dwindling. I was hoping to play it this holiday season because there are some other really great games coming out this year that I am more interested in

        • Skelterz

          same here im losing interest.

        • Wighead

Well, for a lot of projects, the voice acting is done at the end, even after most of the polishing up, so that they won’t have to record again and again for minor changes made to the game. For my part, I was sure it was not going to be released in feb/march, since it was announced at my nearby store that the game was delayed until june at least. So this news is just confirming the info I already had, a possible release around June.

        • WiiUisgaming

I want to buy the game, but I am also interested in other games like you, Smash, Mario Kart. I think I am going to buy the game when its price drops to $30 or $20 on Amazon.

    • Skelterz

      ubisoft love a good delay.

  • Skelterz

its just gunna be a another rayman scenario delay delay delay then boom awesome games released around the same time watchdogs falls into obscurity i was looking forward to it last year but as time goes on im losing interest.

  • Adameh_

I thought the game was coming out in April 🙁

    • NkoSekirei

where did u get the april date cause gamestop has it listed coming out in june

      • Adameh_

I believe when Ubisoft delayed Watch Dogs in their statement they said “Our ambition from the start with Watch Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming. It is with this in mind that we’ve made the tough decision to delay the release until April 2014.”

  • Jon

well, when ever it comes out, I’ll be getting it. I just got my AC IV copy in the mail today, Time to start up the Wii U 😀

    • it is a good gmae (AC4). i like it a lot.

      • kevin nun—-

Is there an online community at least like BO2 on WIi U which is around 2000-3000 a day?

        • COD G have that much

i don’t remember the Mass Efect community, i will go on line to day.

    • Rinslowe

      Nice. Enjoy…

    • Elitepwnsface

ya i like it a lot. Picked it up for ps4, when i should have gotten for pc. But ya its very fun, repetitive but fun.

      • Jon

yeah, I am enjoying it a lot and I have learned how repetitive it can get 😛

  • Justagamer

    More delays…Why!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Skelterz

ubisoft are allergic to releasing wii u games on time.

    • NkoSekirei

will rayman did turn out awsome and lets hope watch dogs ends up being good and worth it

    • D.M.T

Not really. They didn’t delay ZombiU and that’s the game that should’ve been delayed.

      • Skelterz

nice to see your promoting delays braa what’s the matter with you braa you gosta be crazy braaa delays suck braa

    • Con

      Amazing true joke

  • Gameonfool

And then after lots of delays oh this will not be on the wi u because there’s no interest in wii u because there’s no games on it.

    • uPadWatcher

With the exception of games already released on Wii U ever since launch day. Almost 100 games from first and third party and indies…. especially selling lots in digital sales.

      • Gameonfool

I think you missed what I was saying, it was more of an attack on dev’s perception of the wii u not an attack on the wii u itself. And how stupid devs are not putting games on it because there is not enough wider interest because there’s no games on it.

  • Wighead

I, for my part, would like to know who’s going to make the french voice acting in Watch Dogs, since it’s the french version that I’ll be playing. I really liked the french voices for AC4, I hope that they’ll be as good or even better this time.

  • wiimenonowiiu

When it comes out i will get it

  • Aleksander

Hello there all Nintendo fellas 🙂

Damn i was reading this and i hope this is not a true story

Those hoping for the Wii U version to slip somewhere in between the
PS3/360 and PS4/XO experience are in for a disappointment though.
Ubisoft has created a two-tier product and the Nintendo version is very
definitely pegged at the lower level. Native 720p resolution is standard
here, and the same in-house post-process anti-aliasing solution is also
in effect, delivering similar results to Xbox 360 and PS3. In fact, the
only points of difference revolve around slightly reduced texture
filtering in some scenes, and a cooler overall colour balance that
doesn’t quite covey the warm glow of the tropical sun quite as well as
the other platforms. Both of these things are small nitpicks though, not
harming the overall presentation in any meaningful way.”

“The Wii U version consistently falls 6-10fps behind the 360 and PS3
releases, resulting in a jerky, often uneven update and a profound,
unsatisfying reduction in controller response. Combined with the
GamePad’s twitchy analogue sticks, the low frame-rate makes frantically
running across rooftops and chasing down targets a frustrating affair,
the net result being that we’d often have to repeat some missions
multiple times – something that wasn’t much of a problem on 360, and
with no issues at all when playing at 60fps on the PC version of the

    • uPadWatcher

Double standards much… or you just trolling for status points?

      • Aleksander

i was not trolling at all! i was just saying that i hope this was not a true story! i want the game for wii u but i am afraid that the game is gping to be poorly done thats all! iam not a troll

    • NkoSekirei

troll will be troll.Hes just making $hit up just move along people nothing to see here

      • Yep, he copy and pasted the quote from an article analysing AC4. Nothing to do with watchdogs. Ubisoft said Watchdogs on Wii U would be inbetween ps360 and ps4/xbone. That’s all we know.

        • darkcreap

You know, I searched for the text he copied, saw the PS4 vs XOne, PS4 vs WiiU and PC vs WiiU comparisons.

Maybe it is just me, but XOne vs PS4 is more or less the same to me. Regarding the WiiU vs PS4 and WiiU vs PC, I see differences, but I do not perceive they are that big as to decide I would prefer one version over the other.

PC vs PS4 looks pretty much similar. So, my conclusion is. Is it really that great a gap? The videos are frame by frame, not at natural speed, but I don’t think the difference is that big.

Of course, PS4, XOne and PC beat the WiiU graphics wise, but for me it is not that a big difference. PS3 vs WiiU is virtually the same thing.

Seriously, I find this graphics fever as wine snobbism. People will claim they find a thousand flavours in one wine just because of its origin. You give them the same wine and thell them it is from a less prestigious wine manufacturer and they will claim it tastes worse than the first you gave them.

In this case, it is clear that PS4, PC and Xbox One look better than the WiiU version and that the WiiU version looks more or less like the PS3 one but, Is that difference that big? For my personal like, no. I’ve never been a graphics whore and I am not going to start now. I always had to make do with low end PCs during my childhood, so my PCs got outdated very quickly to play games. For me, if the graphics are OK to a certain point, I do not mind the difference.

          • An AC4 top down perspective 16 bit sprite version would have played better anyway.

    • Con

Cool, heres a question: um How the fuck would you know? you cunt.

      • Aleksander

WTF! i was just copying a quote from another site on internet and as you see i didnt write that quote.
I want the game to be good on wii u.
there is no reason to call out ugly words!

        • Con

Am sorry man, I just want this game to be perfect on the Wii U. I apologize

    • readypembroke

Your talking about AC IV and you copied and pasted that from Digital Foundry you fool.

      • Aleksander

really? haha and i thought that was for the watchdog i must have mixed up AC IV with the Watchdog and for that iam sorry. all this was a missunderstanding. anyway happy gaming 🙂

  • Magnus Eriksson

I have not decided if I should get this for PS3 or Wii U. But Im leaning towards PS3 because Im thinking of letting my Wii U be a 1st-party-only-console, atleast until Dolphin manage to emulate Wii U games.

    • wober2

Why? what is the logic of having a console only for first party games?

      • Ace J

that’s how i have to look at the wii u now. because there are A LOT of great 3rd party games that are not coming to the wii u. which forced me to go out and buy a ps4.

        • Kyle

I am really curious… WHAT are you playing on ps4?

          • Ace J

            video games.

          • Ace J

just joking lol, but right now i’m playing Don’t Starve on the ps4 and mario 3D world on the wii u

          • Con

I would like to know as well.

    • NkoSekirei

um dude wii u version of watch dogs could be better then the other versions wen it comes to using the game pad feature which ubisoft is taking advantage of.

    • PS3 does come with more content I think…

      • Rinslowe

If it has Deus Ex like gamepad support. Then all else can be forgotten IMO. Wii U will be the go to platform.
        Otherwise I’m going PC.

        • yeah, I really hope they do something neat with the gamepad

But if they just do a map, that’s okay too. I mean, this city looks huge. I’d personally love a little map

          • Rinslowe

I think some time ago sites like Eurogamer especially tried their damnedest to downplay the map potential, on the gamepad. But during that time I was getting stuck into AC3 on Wii U… A friend had actually gifted me the 360 version so I was playing them side by side. And my impression at the time was wow, the gamepad is really neat just for that feature alone. Just because many games do it in that way doesn’t mean it doesn’t work any less than before. So yeah, totally agree. If it incorporates a map feature properly I’m most likely still in. The PC IMO won’t be that much better visually as a multiplat from Ubisoft. Again IMO, they tend to go for parity more than dominating on better hardware. Of course it’ll look quite a bit nicer but still…
If it manages to use the gamepad for the obvious hacking potential or other surprises, it’s a no brainer on Wii U for me.

          • I’d have been LOST in Lego City if I had no map down there. I’d imagine multiplatform wont make much of a difference. I’d be fine with the Wii U version even if it was just on par with 360/PS3. I just see it as a bonus that it’s better graphically and will have gamepad features ^w^

    • Brandon

stopped reading @ 1st party only console. I’m really hoping that’s a joke! WHY do you want the wii u to be 1st party only!? tat just predicts lower than LIFETIME gcn sales numbers!

    • Rinslowe

I don’t see why Nintendo couldn’t just send a system update that allows all their VC games to have Dolphin like emulation….
It really wouldn’t be too much work for a company of their resources.

  • Mwgly

21 November 2013. June 2014. How did that happen?

    • NkoSekirei

      blame ubisoft on the delay.

  • GregoryTheRainMaker

So Watch Dogs could come in the second half of 2014…I hope it doesn’t get delayed anymore.

  • Dark-Link73

Damn! If voice recording sessions won’t be done until May or June, does that mean the game won’t be out until maybe July/August? After all, I assume that after finishing the recordings, Ubisoft would still need to mix and synch the recordings with the game, then polish it, manufacture it, distribute it, etc.etc.etc. Talk about a delay! Makes me wonder how much of the game was actually done by the original release date of last November.

    • LordiMcKill

Except most people are forgetting one important element that rings true for most Ubisoft games and that comes in the form of three letters: DLC.

From what i’ve read recently, they started planning tons of story DLC for the game back in November just before the game was set for release but then the delay happened and probably delayed the DLC development as well. Hence why the voice actor said either May or June, likely due to this issue. Also May is still spring could be released around that time.

  • Sam

    I don’t care. I’m not buying it.

  • Kyle

Man, how was this game ever going to be released last year?

    • Kyle

      I thought the same thing

      • Noteak

        Are you talking to yourself?…

        • Kyle

no we have the same name

  • DK_Hadouken

For some odd reason, Disqus posted this to the wrong thing. Hmm.

    • Rinslowe

Captain Kirk still would. He’s the original – boldly go…

  • companyoflosers

since when did voice recording happen after or cose to the end of development? i was always under the impression it was one of the first things to be done since it didnt depend on waiting on the rest of the game, just the scrip which generally gets finalized when a story line is decided upon before they build the game.

    • Shota

      strange huh?

  • MujuraNoKamen

So much negativity in the comments, I’m pretty disappointed about the delay too but we defended Nintendo’s multiple delays of Pikmin 3 and the end result was totally worth it. Why should Ubisoft be shunned for trying to make a big new game the best it can be. Knowing that this game is spending more time being improved and fine-tuned should have our interests piqued not depleted guys. In an age of rushed projects and annualised AC games Ubisoft should be commended for the effort (and let’s not forget that they are really trying with Wii U) that they are putting into WD.

  • Logan Waltz

Wii u version is THE version. Can’t be cancelled. This better be fucking perfect with these damn delays

  • LJay

Lets just leave the half finished games to the con-artists at EA,id much rather a game was delayed than get some half baked effort-maybe im used to delays with nintendo but this is a good thing,if only a few more devs could see past making quick profits id maybe buy more 3rd party stuff.
Im looking forward to this but i swear if theres one missing feature i wont even think about buying it.

  • AAAkabob

    Probably DLC

    • Rinslowe

Hopefully. I’m hanging out for this game.

  • Rinslowe

Wow, if true that’s one heck of a delay.

  • LordiMcKill

Everybody is forgetting that this game also has a ton of story based DLC in the works. Thats probably why the voice actor was told that time. The voice work for the main game would have been recorded months/years ago.

  • lilmc01

I just want at-least a minute of Watch Dogs Wii U game play w/Game Pad funtions

  • Andrew Clear

But Ubisoft wasn’t happy with him sharing that information.

  • juancamiloarq

I can’t believe how slow this site has turned on the news… It’s sad that everything posted hear had already been discussed on many other sites for at least one or even two days. What’s going on? By no mean I’m trolling or anything, I really like this place and specially the community that has grown with it. I just want this site to be the one in which I can read everything first! Don’t let us down, please.

  • ETeach

Doesn’t it seem kind of strange that initially they were going to release in December, but now there’s a rumour that the voice acting will finish 6 months later?

  • Nintenjoe82

Could be recording for DLC. It’s pretty incredible that they tried to say this game would be ready for PS4 launch if they hadn’t even recorded voice acting.

  • Nintendofreak

The more times that passes the less likely im going to buy it. cuz the more likely something better is going to pop up U.U

  • zainfazal3000

They are not even finished recording Dialogue?

yeah my excitement for this game is…well dead.

  • Donaald

How much dialog does this game have?
