The Wii U Virtual console has been available to us for a little over a month now and it’s currently dominating the sales charts. A whopping nine out of ten titles are all virtual console titles from the top ten, which means old games are still a lucrative business when it comes to Nintendo. Of course, sales have been helped by the numerous promotions going on, including the .30 cent Super Metroid and the current buy two get one free for Kirby games. Here’s the full chart: 1. Super Metroid 2. Super Mario Bros. 2 3. Super Mario World 4. Kirby Super Star 5. Kirby’s Dream Land 3 6. Kirby’s Dream Course 7. Super Ghouls’n Ghosts 8. Kirby’s Adventure 9. Mega Man 10. Runner2 11. Pac-Man 12. Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream 13. Kung Fu Rabbit 14. Resident Evil: Revelations 15. Donkey Kong Jr. 16. Excitebike 17. The Cave 18. Nintendo Land 19. Solomon’s Key 20. Wii U Panorama View: Kyoto Sightseeing It’s interesting to see Resident Evil: Revelations sitting at 14 on that list, as it only released a few days ago. Somehow Nintendo Land is still on that chart, which speaks to how many people are buying the Wii U basic set. What do you think of this sales chart? Nintendo won’t release any numbers, but the fact that it’s dominated by virtual console releases certainly says something. local_offer Nintendo nintendo eshop wii u Wii U virtual console stars Further Reading Nintendo loses patent appeal, ordered to pay Nintendo was brainstorming about Switch when juancamiloarq Can’t wait for any Zelda game on Wii U Virtual Console! Ernie Sanguyo yes me too, I’ve been waiting for zelda vc as well. Connor Devlin Apparently they might be bringing link to the past, in honor of the sequel on the 3DS. juancamiloarq Certainly, but it’s late already for not having such a killer. Ernie Sanguyo I would love to have link to the past on gamepad. One of my favorite next to ocarina 🙂 Nintenjoe82 Me neither. I held back re-buying any of them on Wii but gamepad play is definitely an incentive to have a second look at the first 3 games. Anyone buying the sequel to Link to the Past should be forced to play through the original if they never played it. I just hope Nintendo hurry up and start discounting their less valuable titles and/or release most of my Wii collection so I can upgrade them. Ony Microsoft has to look at these charts :3 DeedsGaming . Wow, people actually bought one of the Wii U Panorama View Videos? Dayum. Ashley King It’s worth noting that that particular panorama view is in Kyoto, which is where Nintendo’s headquarters are located. Fans probably wanted to see where the magic happens. Nintedward I did exactly that xD . It was kinda goofy but I REALLY enjoyed sitting in my double bed having a virtual tour around the lovely Kyoto ! It’s so Japanese , but I like that. Imagine a tour of the Nintendo Museam or Nintendo’s HQ like this ? I had the biggest smile on my face like when Cartman says ”Yeeeeeeeeess , Yeeeeeeeeees!” baro93 Such a fanboy (i’m too 🙂 ) Nintedward Guilty as charged 😉 DeedsGaming . This is true 🙂 jay another “hardcore” snotty comment. LopsidedPasta Will you stop being a butthurt Nintendo fanboy? When anyone disagrees with you, they’re a “hardcore snotty gamer”. You tried to peg me with that bull$hit on a recent article, and it didn’t work. So stop trying to do it to other people. If someone likes COD, they’re not hardcore snotty gamers. If someone agrees with an admin of this site, they’re not a snotty gamer either. Grow up. juancamiloarq Hey, I’ve got this question rolling around my head lately. Why do we pay taxes when purchasing in the Nintendo eShop and not in Apple’s AppStores? I mean, there’s no difference at all, you are region locked in a certain way and the items bought are the same: software. di g its called greed Tim van Broekhoven Sorry, but what are taxes? Ashley King If you’re from Europe, in the US taxes are equivalent to your VAT. Nintedward In UK your wages get taxed. So the job description might say ”£22,000 per year!” but it’s before tax. after tax you get about £18,000… we say , ”how much do you take home?” when asking how much money someone earns. juancamiloarq OUCH. CapnCrumbles436 Hey that’s 18%. At that salary ($33,000) you would be taxed 15% in the US. Although the govt would give you most back because you are considered lower income. In the US I get taxed at 25%. My parents get taxed at 28-33% (not sure exactly how much they are brining in today.) Then, since you are not considered lower class, they will sweep in to take some more come tax day. My point is, we are not far behind, and our govt is chasing after the model of Greecian ‘success’. audi lover In uk we get taxed between 20-45 percent on earnings (depending on earnings) then we get taxed a further 20 percent on practicaly everything we buy Nintedward You mine was just an Estimate! It varies depending on the salary but i’m not far off. In US , don’t they charge you tax and VAT on top of your purcahses ? So say a wiiu is $350. you have to pay money on top of that also ? juancamiloarq Taxes, impuestos, Steuern, данъци, tasse, налогов. jay It’s the money they take from US citizen to support police brutality. CapnCrumbles436 I wish! I have no problem funding local police, fire fighters, border agents, and (to a certain degree) raising a national defense. Our taxes are used to fund so many more shananaghans. Like the purchasing of fighter jets and munitions for the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, or multi million dollar studies done by major universities to investigate why lesbian women have a much higher rate of obesity….the list goes on. Ashley King The answer is that Apple is one of the biggest tax dodging companies in the world. See here for more info: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/apple-tax-evasion juancamiloarq What about Steam, Origin? I haven’t paid any taxes in those platforms. Dunno if Windows Marketplace or Google Play charge you with taxes. Ashley King Current US tax law only requires companies to pay taxes if they do business physically in the state. That means they have warehouses or a store location within the state. Online sales tax is currently under reform. You can read more about it here: http://blog.heritage.org/2013/05/13/morning-bell-the-ugly-facts-about-the-internet-sales-tax/ juancamiloarq I’ll give it all a read. Thanks, Ashley. CapnCrumbles436 The government taxes us on everything now a days. Anytime money changes hands the government steals a share. Im suprised they havent found a way to tax you when you shift cash from your left to right pocket. Many taxes are imbedded in places where you never see them, they just make their way into the final cost of the product/service. Look up ‘death tax’, ‘estate tax’ or ‘estate duty’. The US government now takes from your inheritance that you would pass on after you die. Those are assets that have already had taxes paid on them by the original owner. Its not inaccurate to say that you essentially pay the government to die. The government is double dipping in all sorts of places and the tax code is becoming unmanageable and insanely complex. Couple this with the fact that they give certain groups preferential treatment, they are spending us into oblivion and you’ve got a very bad situation. Trust me Corporations like Apple are NOT our adversaries. They are on our side. They just want to be left to do what they do best like you and me. Ashley King Apple is only interested in the money in your pocket, the same as the government. But this isn’t the place to have this conversation. Thanks for your input for those who were curious. CapnCrumbles436 Yeah, it’s a business that’s what they do. What do you think Nintendo is interested in? We are not forced to give Apple our money, we choose to. We are legally obliged to give the govt our money. Think of the govt as an ‘evil monopoly’ because it is. Im not looking to get in an argument. Sorry if I came off wrong. It just troubles me when I hear younger contributors demonizing lawful business and promoting bigger more intrusive govt. You made a series of statements about business and tax law and I am experienced in business finance. I couldn’t let the ‘Apple is a tax dodger’ comment slip unchecked. Good day. God bless. Michael Collins An Apple a day keeps the taxman away! CapnCrumbles436 That’s smart business sense. They haven’t done anything illegal. If they had, charges would be brought against them, and they would be hit with penalties. Why shell out more to the government when you don’t have to. It’s akin to you going to your accountant taking advantage of specific exemptions, and then someone pointing the finger at you yelling “tax dodger! Pay your fair share!” A better example would be me going across state lines to take advantage of Deleware’s duty free shopping. Is that wrong? Absolutely not. Its all legal and it’s SMART. It’s why Apple diverts some of their business operations to Ireland. They have a very appealing tax code. The problem is GOVERNMENT greed. The entire game plan in business is to generate revenue and grow. If the US government were smart they would implement a globally competitive and business friendly tax code which would bring business back on shores and actually create MORE revenue for the govt and grow the economy. Tax revenue does not equal tax rate. Don’t read liberal drivel like the HuffPo. Sarah Wow, dude. CapnCrumbles436 Good for them and us because the cost is passed along to the consumer. Hello! As long as they are operating within the law. It’s all good. Everybody jump on the hate Apple express. Toot toot! It’s cool everyone’s doing it now a days. jay I have to pay taxes on iTunes… Never noticed if my Apps were taxed though. CapnCrumbles436 It all has to do with where and how the business conducts its operations. Tax law is a sticky intricate web, and the laws are constantly being updated to chase down dollars as businesses and citizens are constantly trying to protect their earnings. If the business is savvy they can find lawful ways to sheild themselves and the consumer. George Pepe What do you expect? We have few decent games besides the classics. juancamiloarq Try Runner 2, Trine 2, Nano Assault Neo. Three great games. lonewolf88 nano assualt is epic still need to get trine 2! Frank Especially Super Metroid-Hopefully it’ll sell more than a million downloads than it’s first release, hopefully Tim van Broekhoven That will probably happen with the 30 cent deal 😀 George Pepe I want some awesome Sega games!! Phantasy Star, Shining Force, Streets of Rage. Ernie Sanguyo I have all of this chart list except solomon key and paranoma view. Tim van Broekhoven stoere boy thedeciderU i think people are hunkering down with more financially viable vc games until E3 games are showcased. plus there have been a fair number of promotions. Daniel Smith My thoughts exactly, a big part of the picture is the economy. Stephen Davis Nintendo Mario Bros 3 and Goldeneye 64 PLEASE! 😛 Shaise Mughal They havent did a Nintendo 64 game yet Clel I still have my N64, so I would actually prefer Gamecube titles. Ice Climbers N64 games aren’t available on the Wii U VC yet. Even then, Goldeneye 007 will never be released due to legal issues with Rare. Microsoft isn’t allowed to put it on XBLA either. Game Master That’s why Nintendo should buy Rare, put Goldeneye 007 on Wii U VC and then say, we won, you lost, ha ha ha ha Steelmullet Good news. John Madsen Actually the latest rip off i see in the shop is the fact you have to buy two kirby snes games at 7.99 each to get one free so i have to spend 16.00 plus taxes which comes to 20.98 where i live at where i can get the original carts and the snes to run it for 15.00 Ivan Hernandez but you can’t post cute screens to MiiVerse with the original ….. just trying to see the bright side jay Then go do that. This is for people who don’t own an snes or want the games conveniently stored onto their console. Nintendofreak well the only good games are vc so its to be expected Saul Rivera I bought the ZombiiU set and it brings Nintendo Land as a downloadable game…thing is..it also counts as bought which thanks to that I got 5 dollars back from the digital promotion thingy…so not everyone who downloaded it has a Basic set… jay WOW! Did not know that. TobyObey I really hope they will bring Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga to the virtual console! Ivan Hernandez and Megaman X is coming on the 30th ….. I play it like 100 times, still I want to play it again 🙁 CapnCrumbles436 I am a Nintendo fan, but I personally never understood some of the VC stuff. I’ve played these games already. They are dated. They are also over priced. I’m not going to be anxiously awaiting the release of Links Awakening. That game came out 20 years ago! It’s been rereleased several times since then. How many times can I replay an old game? I just strikes me as a cheap cash ins on Ns part. It’s like they keep milking it. I am however very interested in the new stuff coming down the pike. Very interested in a new Metroid, Mario, Mario Kart, Smash etc jay Not everyone is YOU. Some of us have not played A Link To The Past(ME). As long as consumers ask for classics the “milking” will continue. It would be unfair for Nintendo to pull all these top games out just because YOU have played them all 10 times 🙁 Luca Invernizzi You are partly right, partly not: everyone here want new stuff. We, like you, want nintendo to show us that they are not just living out of the success they had in the past. But, for example, I never had a Super Nintendo. Or Gamecube, for instance. Also on my old NES I only had few cartidge and now that, with the internet, I kno how many good games there are on those console, I really enjoy the chance to play those old games. For me, this is really amazing. If this VC stuff will not be followed by new stuff, I’ll be pissed of, but for now… I love it. (And you are right… this IS a way to milk out money from old stuff… still love it. XD) Eduardo I have played several old games, but I didn’t have a NES or SNES, I had a Genesis back then and played games like Super Mario World on consoles of friends. Link to the Past for example I had the Game boy advance copy that I used on my Nintendo DS, but I’m eagerly waiting a copy to play on the TV. Not to mention the other Zelda classics that I’d love to play again like Majora’s Mask and, of course, Ocarina of Time! Sam No surprise there. discuss Rocket science. Daniel Schwarz This is very vague. Is this list specific to digital downloads on the Wii U, because that is never mentioned in the article! If that is indeed the case, as it appears, it really isn’t that surprising. Games like Resident Evil Revelations are also available at retail for the Wii U (VC games are not) and other Eshop games such as Trine 2, The Cave, and Toki Tori 2 have been out for a while now while the Wii U Virtual Console games have all been released very recently. Madmagican Damn! the first title on that list that’s not a VC title is Runner2 and it’s at the #10 spot just goes to show how much of an older audience is buying Wii U and realizing their childhood games are waiting for them Brandon Betlej Good then we should be getting tons of VC games! I cant wait maybe they will announce gamecube or n64 games in the next nintendo direct Gary When will they stop releasing NES and SNES games on the VC I`m waiting for some of the n64 and gamecube classics to come out as well, I was hoping they would come out concurrently to SNES and NES games. Johny just got Metroid :DD LOVE IT !! i’ve been waiting for it for a loong time.. i just hate that you HAVE to have german/french subs >.> … ugh.. i hate that LopsidedPasta This VC is MILES ahead of where the Wii VC was at this point in the console’s lifespan. I sincerely applaud you Nintendo, but don’t stop now! miiandmario I think the Wii U vc helped the eshop out a lot. It was pretty dry before the VC and barely had any titles.
