The Wii U hasn’t been doing well on the games front, at least games made by third party publishers. But indie developers have somewhat embraced the Wii U and the Wii U eShop to publish their titles. You can find a great library of fun indie games on the eShop, and it’s only going to get better in the future. According to Nintendo’s Damon Baker, a senior manager in Nintendo’s Licensing department, there are over 50 indie games in development at the moment that are slated for release on the Wii u eShop. And all of the games are made with Unity, of course. At GDC this year, Unity announced a brand new version of its 3D game engine, Unity 5, with advanced lighting and effects features. Unity has been very popular among indie developers over the past few years, mainly due to its low price and ease of use. Of the 50 Unity-powered Wii U indie games, nine are showcased at GDC 2014, and 17 of them have been submitted to Nintendo for approval. Baker says those 17 would be released within the next two months. He added: “And then, we have another fifty that are waiting in the wings, that are coming; so we’ve got a lot of Unity content on the way.” This is likely a result of the partnership between Unity and Nintendo that was announced last year. With the agreement, Unity made a Wii U-specific engine that is bundled for free with every Wii U dev kit. So far, the partnership looks like it’s paying off well. Unity has supported on the Wii U since 2012 with Unity 3. The new Unity 5 engine costs just $75/month for developers (but is free to all Wii U developers, as mentioned earlier). You can check out a video showcase of the Unity 5 engine below: Via Siliconera local_offer Nintendo unity wii u stars Further Reading Nintendo loses patent appeal, ordered to pay Nintendo was brainstorming about Switch when Jon I wish we’d just get more than them saying “fifty”. Should I continue? Daniel Gonzalez That sums it up quite well. Ace J man i’m disappointed with the wii u. i seriously wanted to only have 1 console this gen. nintendo promised 3rd party support. yet they are not following through. Daniel Gonzalez No one should be surprised that they failed to live up to that promise. I had some hope for Nintendo early on, but lucky for me, I didn’t buy into their claims. I already gave up my Wii U to my cousin. I’ll buy another maybe later in its life. Squid They may, I’m waiting on E3 to know for sure. Daniel Gonzalez Perhaps. For now, I’ll just wait and see. SamusPrime 1. You have never had hope for the WiiU. 2. You have posted on this site for some time pre-Wii U purchase claiming it was a poor system, blah, blah, blah 3. You then claim you purchased a Wii U (A claim I highly doubt) 4. Then you claim you GAVE it to your cousin. 5. Then you say you may BUY a second one. Conclusion – You are either a liar or an idiot. Squid Maybe he bought a console because he had some hope. Maybe he didn’t want to be a hypocrite. But seriously it’s none of our business if he’s lying or not. Daniel Gonzalez People always seem to care about other people’s business. Considering I expressed that I gave my Wii U away in an act of charity, you’d think that would be supported. I guess giving a Wii U away is such a no no. ;P nexxus6 If he doesn’t want to make it our business, then maybe he shouldn’t post about it on the internet. Daniel Gonzalez 1. You got upset 2. You posted to express your anger 3. You are giving the evil glare 4. You have a problem with charity 5. You grew in a fit of rage and went to calm yourself with a bowl of icecream Conclusion- You either are a fanboy or feel it’s impossible for someone to dislike a Wii U. Quite touchy. RyuNoHadouken lol Fboogey Daniel your whole purpose on this site is to get Nintendo fans upset. What a sad life purpose that is Daniel Gonzalez Fans on this site make themselves upset by being offended with ones opinion. They control their actions, not I. What a sad life to worry about what one person on the site thinks of Nintendo and its Wii U. This works both ways. Getting touchy over an opinion only contradicts your post. Good work. ;P nexxus6 Way to dodge the topic at hand. You are a master at that skill. Magnus Eriksson Why is that. I understand Daniel very well. I tried to sell mine three times now because the kids dont find it interesting anymore. They rather play on the pad or the phones instead of the Wii U. Even the PS3 seems to be more exciting when they want to play games. I bought DKCTF to them and they played it for an hour before losing interest and went back to playing with their phones. My impression is that Nintendo cant appeal even to the youngest anymore. Its sad for an old time fan to watch, but I think we must accept that Nintendo have played out their role in this business now. Morphballs I disagree Nintendo still has appeal to kids my kids have been playing wii u constantly since legends came out and still haven’t gotten tired of SM3DW. DKCTF is a bit tough for them but they’ll still play it. I can’t wait for mario kart 8. Magnus Eriksson I got SM3DW just before launch and we played through that one. I agree that it was amazing, but its the only really amazing game too. MK8 might change it, but its still far away… Fred I have been playing Xenoblade on mine… Whilst I anxiously await X Magnus Eriksson I had Xenoblade on Wii. Never my cup of tea. But I can understand it got its fans. sd Pikmin 3 was amazing. For me I have played plenty of great games on the Wii U. The problem is they only release 1 great game every 3-4 months. These usually take 1-3 weeks to complete. If it was my only console what would I play in between. Magnus Eriksson Pikmin 3 is good, I agree. But I dont call it amazing, not even very memorable. The same goes for W101. Good games, although not great. Laer_HeiSeiRyuu DKCTF>Mario nexxus6 Way to generalize everyone on the planet that owns a WiiU with a couple of kids that played DKCTF. Knowing that those kids (3 kids I am guessing) grew tired with a difficult game after an hour in the age of ADHD finally sealed the deal for me: Nintendo is doomed!!! Fboogey As always Daniel Gonzales is here with his concern troll antics. I have no problem if he doesnt really like Nintendo. But what I find kind of pathetic is that he comes to a nintendo fan site to spew his negative slant. and he is here all the time. Like he has nothing better going on in life than to try to rain on Nintendo fans. Very sad Fboogey Also did anyone notice that the games on PS4 and Xboxone are just getting okay to decent scores. Titanfall(good), infamous (okay). The Wii U still has the best games by far. None of the XBone or PS4 games have topped Pikmin 3 or Super Mario 3D world Ace J in your opinion. Dark-Link73 I don’t think that “no one should be surprised that they (Nintendo) failed to live up to that promise…” I don’t believe we should put all blame on Nintendo for the struggles of the Wii U. Nintendo’s struggles with the Wii U have been a combination of event from both, Nintendo and third parties, that ultimately culminated with the formation of a “perfect storm” scenario for the Wii U which will take at least another two years to correct. I think if Nintendo hadn’t put all their hopes and promises completely depended on WESTERN third party support, and had put a primary emphasis on first party and then use third party as support instead of a main pillar, people’s view of the Wii U wouldn’t be as negative as they are now. Let’s face it, Japanese business culture is much loyal and traditional than the “cut throat” mentality of western business companies. Nintendo put all their faith in third party, and third party has abandoned them. Beginning with EA. Squid IMO EA wasn’t much of a loss. Dark-Link73 Let’s be honest. Who are we kidding? Just because we’re angry at EA for backstabbing Nintendo or at Ubisoft for delaying Rayman and not announcing for AC for Wii U, it doesn’t mean we have to lie to ourselves and put a blindfold over our eyes hoping the issue will disappear. EA WAS a big loss, they might be the worst company for 2 years straight, their Origin server might be the worst service in gaming, but the content they provide and all the companies within the EA conglomerate make a huge part of the gaming industry. Now, does this mean that EA alone is to blame for the Wii U struggles? NO! (even though EA wishes they were) BUT, as aforementioned in my comments above, they ARE part of the series of events that lead to the Wii U’s struggles. Now by no means the loss of EA as a third party supporter means that they won and the Wii U is doomed. No! Where EA and others are abandoning Nintendo, the Indie developers are rising to meet the challenges that the Wii U is experiencing and, as a whole, they are filling up the gap left by the big developers, bringing the support the Wii U desperately needs. I think Indie developers are going to become the backbone of the Wii U. The Wii U might not repeat the success of the Wii, but, thanks to the Indie developers, it will not repeat the failure of the Virtual Boy. Mario You may not know this, but I just applauded you for your great speech. Dark-Link73 Thanks. I should start a campaign to make me a writer in this site, lol. 😉 jjbredesen Thank god somebody has common sense on this site! http://www.quickmeme.com/img/e6/e6c4de242e668a1ff990b034960d546d1eb146fe5edc16b94d9f728dcfa5d696.jpg Dark-Link73 Lol, thanks! Daniel Gonzalez So it’ll have Dreamcast success? Dark-Link73 I find it rather amusing how, when people don’t have the ability to postulate a compelling argument for discussion and debate, they seem to resort to the lowest form of expression: sarcasm. Daniel Gonzalez I also find it amusing that you assume when you see a sarcastic comment, that one can’t form a compelling argument. Sarcasm is my humor, I suggest keeping that in mind before passing judgment. I take it you are a very serious poster to think sarcasm is poor way to express. Not good to be so stern. ;P Dark-Link73 I tend to be rather serious indeed when I’m debating a point. it wasn’t my intention to “pass judgment”. Allow me to show you how I “pass judgment”: Looking at your posting style and see how you tend to resort to sarcasm, I can deduct that you have low self-esteem. People with low self-esteem tend to use sarcasm, not only as a form of humor, but also as a defense mechanism. This is reinforced by your constant need to irritate people in a passive-aggressive manner by “trolling”. People who tend to engage in “trolling” use it mainly as a form of bullying due to the fact that trolls tend to “attack” or tease others in order to bring them out of their comfort zone. It is the general consensus that bullies resort to this behavior due to a lack of self-esteem, which in turn, derives from being bullied themselves. Thus I can conclude that perhaps you need to troll to make you feel better about yourself. THAT is how I pass judgment. Trevor Beautiful. Daniel Gonzalez Okay, so you tend to be rather serious. Perhaps you’re the one with low self-esteem if sarcasm bothers you this much. Lol. Especially over the internet. I guess I was right that you’re quite uptight and need to lighten up a bit. It’s a nice try in trying to figure out one’s motives, but it falls short of the truth unless you know a person personally rather than just online. As for passing judgment, as the meaning of my name implies, you don’t qualify. Sorry my friend. That’s reserved for the big man in the sky. As for those who can’t handle teasing over the net, if you can’t handle the heat, stay out of the kitchen. Gonna have to do better than just theories. I conclude that you waste your time worrying over who you feel is a troll. If you’re this serious, then you’re responding to the wrong person. ;P Dark-Link73 Yes I tend to be serious when debating. At least I accept myself for who I am instead of pretend to be righteous by evoking the Lord in false testimony. Just because your name means that “God is my judge”, it does not absolve you from passing judgment on others nor gives you the right to act like the snake of the Garden of Eden and cause trouble by “teasing over the net”. It is obvious that you carry ill intentions and that you enjoy bringing people down to your level in an everlasting conflict in order to bring chaos and negativity to this community. I’m ashamed to say I have fallen for your tricks but at the same time I’m glad that you mentioned the Lord because, ironically, through you he has shown me that you are not a person of good and only enjoy spread anger and discord around this community. As such I won’t waste any more time with you and I wish for you to change your ways, and hopefully see the light you so claim to profess. Daniel Gonzalez You only have yourself to blame as you could have easily just left it comments ago. As for being a person of good or bad, I think I can sleep just fine at night knowing full well that I know what I am as a person, so your opinion of me on all fronts doesn’t bother me. It’s nice to see you will finally stop wasting your time and I wish you well and hope you change your ways. Being too serious in life is a poor way to live, especially when debating. Gotta have fun from time to time. Hope you see the light in time. Being a dark Link probably doesn’t help your case. Take care. <3 Greg Lanciotti He didn’t say he was absolved from anything. Stop assuming. He simply said that judgement is left up to god, not he or you. Also, he’s probably not really trolling, but probably annoyed at how Nintendo has handled things over the last couple of years, and he’s sort of “venting”/having fun with Ninty fanboys (who are the worst). That’s how I feel now. I loved Nintendo, but there marketing/business strategy is all discombobulated. Only the blind Nintendo Fanboys can’t see that. You can still like Nintendo games, as I do, and know that they are doomed for failure if they don’t act soon. If you don’t like what someone is saying, even if it has facts/truth in it, just ignore them! Greg Lanciotti Nintendo fanboys are completely blind Daniel. Don’t even try to “argue” with them. No one says you have to argue. It’s the internet. LOL who cares!!! nexxus6 What do you “consider” before you pass judgment on this site? Maybe he doesn’t find your sarcastic humor funny, who knows. However, it seems like you feel free to pass judgment quite easily. Greg Lanciotti boo hoo Magnus Eriksson Im packing my away now. I never use it and its aesthetical ugly so I dont want it in the livingroom. I might try to sell it again, but no one seems to want to buy it. Nintendo is appaerantly uninteresting for everyone these days. Even the kids find the pads and phones more fun than the Wii U. SamusPrime I’m sure that won’t stop you from coming to this website to bitch and moan, or are you packing that away too? Magnus Eriksson I will come here to look if there will come some good games at last. There is still hope, even if its small, that there might come one or two good games to Wii U sometime in the future. So I will be around AT LEAST until Metroid U, Zelda U and Star Fox U is released. 🙂 JB (i.e. You can’t get rid of him that easy) lol Daniel Gonzalez If you can’t handle what people have to say whether it be positive or negative, then perhaps socializing on the internet isn’t your cup of tea. Right now, you’re the one who appears to be bitching and moaning. ;P SamusPrime That works both ways, believe it or not there are some people that actually enjoy the Wii U, and when I read your same point over and over, it gets old. You said you bought one, well I’m curious, how can I have the following games; ACIII, ACIV, Arkham, Blops, DS2, Epic Mickey, Injustice, WW, LegoBat, LegoC, LegoMSH, MH3, NFSMW, NSM, NSL, NL, Pik3, Rayman, SonicLW, 101, Tom Clancy, Zombie, Bit Trip, Trine 2, and you just can’t seem to find games to play? Daniel Gonzalez Simple. Cause most third party games, I can get on other platforms that I enjoy, and many aren’t being ported to the Wii U. Plus, Nintendo 1st parties for the most part, aren’t my thing anymore. So, I see that it’s best to give it to someone that would appreciate it more. Just because you can find something that you enjoy, doesn’t mean it’ll be the same story for I. I’m enjoying my PC and PS3 too much at the moment to give the Wii U my time. When I feel that I’m ready to give the Wii U another chance later on, then I will buy another one. I’m quite sure that can’t be too hard for you to understand. That question gets old as well, as I see that a lot from people who have a problem with those who didn’t appreciate the Wii U. You’re right, it does work both ways. Thanks for the obvious. You worry too much on what people do with their time. Either way, no skin off my back. SamusPrime Your quote from earlier in this thread. “They need third party, simple as that.” But the 3rd party games that are on the Wii U you said the following. “Cause most third party games, I can get on other platforms that I enjoy.” So they need 3rd parties, but I won’t buy them for the Wii U. Daniel Gonzalez Exactly, it needs third party. However, that doesn’t mean I have to buy it on that platform, now do I? I find them better on a Sony platform. So far, most ports have been gimped on Wii U, so why would I want a lower quality product? Only time I will buy third party on a Nintendo console is if it was exclusive and something that is appealing to me. So again, you worry too much on a person’s reasons for selling his Wii U. Do continue on if it makes you feel better. Some of us have other things to think about. ;P nexxus6 I don’t think Samus cares why you sold the WiiU. He is just calling you out on your hypocritical ways, and he did a fine job at that. Gentle Robot You’re practically the only commenter on a site dedicated to a product you gave up on. I bet you’re really good at something other than trolling. Devote yourself to that. Daniel Gonzalez I would re-evaluate your comment,as it contradicts your point. ;P Mercurio2054 i don’t know why you get a wiiu if you don’t like Nintendo games anymore, and find 3rd party games better on your other platforms Daniel Gonzalez I think I answered that one. I think it went like ” because I have money to burn.” Besides, what better gift to give my cousin who wanted a Wii U since Christmas? I like to do charity, so the occasion was reasonable. nexxus6 If you have “money to burn” and are worried about the WiiU sales, why not buy your cousin a brand new WiiU? Sheiky Baby So, you didn’t have one, then bought one, then gave it up to your cousin… Did you play all the stuff you missed out on? Daniel Gonzalez I’ve been PC gaming or using my PS3, so I don’t feel I missed out on anything. I bought it only cause I have plenty of money to do so. Rather than let it sit there collect dust, I gave it to someone who would value it more. That’s about it. Gentle Robot Maybe stop trolling and let go, then. Daniel Gonzalez Maybe stop being a hypocrite and let go then, gentle one. ;P Greg Lanciotti Haha Daniel. I’m a big nintendo fan but I completely agree with you. They let everyone down, and the nintendo fanboys cannot accept it. I think if nintendo does not get on the Virtual Reality train, they will ultimately fail. Capt. Smoker Same here, I was butt hurt to be kind about it, I love the Wii U, it’s truly my anime and hentai treasure trove but on the games front, too few releases are the problem, even something as failed as the Vita in sales gets supported better than this, I don’t expect what everybody else gets, but I at least expect Nintendo to go out of their way to secure more exclusives that are actually appealing and release regularly. Logan Wayman Hope Blue Isle Studios’ Slender the Arrival makes it onto here. Bobby P. The EA deal went south because they basically wanted to own Nintendo, to which they said FU. Theres no drought if you look around the eShop, NES remix and other indies are abound and then theres older games like zombie U and wonderful 101, hell pikmin was my first game in the series and that game took hundreds of hours of my life. Im sorry nintendo makes you look for reasons to dislike them but. thats your problem. Dark-Link73 I know the whole deal with EA, you can scroll up and read my other comments. There is a drought of major releases. There is only TWO major releases in six months, of you don’t call that a “drought” then you are in denial. Not everybody is into indies and VC like you are. I know there are “older games”, I have 26 of them. For some reason Nintendo seems to focus their release efforts for the second half of the year, it wouldn’t be bad if it wasn’t for the fact that EVERYBODY does that (except indies. It is understandable since it’s closer to the holiday season, but Nintendo needs to either focus on releasing more than two games the first six months of the year or they need to stop making promises of steady releases all year if they can’t keep such promises. I personally don’t mind waiting, my extensive game collection keeps me busy, just don’t tell me you’re releasing games steadily and we don’t see anything for six months! Nintendo has been my main finale preference for almost 25 years. I haven’t sold a single console nor game during all that time, if anything, I’m constantly buying Nintendo games, memorabilia, and anything Nintendo as long my budget allows. So no, I don’t go around “looking for reasons to dislike them”. I consider myself a huge Nintendo fanboy, I have bought every Nintendo console on day one since the N64, and ever handheld on day one since the original DS. I’m a fanboy, but I’m not blinded by fanboyism. I’m old enough, and most importantly, mature enough, to understand the realities of our times and the reasons behind situations. There IS a major release game drought and Nintendo is not doing enough to combat this situation. But I’m not going to sell my console and abandon ship like some haters around here who only look to instigate friction amongst true fans. I recognize with an open mind the crude realities of Wii U’s situation. Bobby P. Im not looking for arguments man, im glad youre a fan who doesnt sell his games either. Honestly though, as a company you cannot expect Nintendo to crank out major releases in short periods of time. Dark-Link73 But… but… but… I LOVE arguing and debating!!! 🙁 lol. Fine! Please don’t get me wrong, I don’t want Nintendo to crank out games like crazy nor series in a yearly manner because it would mean the end of their quality. But Nintendo has SOOO many IP’s that if they were to release ALL their major IP’s in a generation (6 to 7 years), once or twice per generation depending on the game, they’d could release a game every other month. They’d have to hire more studios, but in the long run it would be worth it. I suppose we can all dream. Mercurio2054 well, that’s correct. Bobby P. I get what you’re saying man, but the business cant support a decision like that. Hell, I’ve been waiting for another console Starfox game to remember that he’s not just one of the fighters in smash. Dark-Link73 I know. The only way Nintendo can do that is by becoming a conglomerate like EA (ewwww!). I’ve been waiting also fur a full Starfox game like the N64 (didn’t care much for the on foot missions), I’m glad Zelda is my favorite Nintendo series, otherwise I’d be waiting very long time between games like Metroid Fans and yourself. 😉 Laer_HeiSeiRyuu No the N64 was the drought where NO games and I mean NO GAMES came out for 6 months at a period Dark-Link73 To make a fair comparison, if you take away the eShop from the Wii U, then the Wii U is not that much different from the N64 in that regard. Laer_HeiSeiRyuu Not really.Nintendo’s output’s greatly increased since then. As have their game quality. Third party publisher also still have actually released titles on the WiiU as well ( during the initial “nintendo game” drought post console launch, the delay of Rayman Legends hurt it pretty badly) there were periods where nothing came out that was published by Nintendo for a good year. Dark-Link73 Oh yeah, totally agree their game output has increased and third party support was great at Wii U’s launch. I have 27 full retail Wii U games after only being out for 16 months. By comparison, I have amassed around 90 Wii retail games after 7 years. So there are Wii U games out there, but there isn’t denying that we are going through a second dough of Wii U retail games. Launch 2012 saw over 20 launch titles, but late December to July saw only like 3 major retail releases. August to November so like 10 major retail releases. December May (so far) will only see about 2. Games ARE coming. I’m just tired of hearing that. Fred most of what you said is correct, but they never said we’d have Zelda U by last November Dark-Link73 Actually I remember Nintendo talking about a Zelda game in the works for Wii U around launch and that they were “hoping” (not promising) that they could release it by 2014. Since it was taking them longer than anticipated, plus the fact that the team was also working on LoZ:ALBW, that’s when Nintendo decided to release WWHD as a substitute to the original Zelda U title in the works. Nintendo really hoped to get the Zelda U title out by last November in order to compete with the releases of X1 and PS4. Zelda is probably the only title that would’ve given them the push they needed. Too bad Nintendo couldn’t make it. Fred I think if X had come out last year it would have been a big push. It doesn’t have to be a known IP look at the hype Xbone is getting from TitanFall. X needs a name and a release date! Dark-Link73 Yeah. I’m keeping an eye out on that one. Even though I’m not much of an RPG fan, I think it looks very good and if three combat mechanics are real time as suppose to turn-based, them I will buy it. Fred I take it you never played Xenoblade? Iwata confirmed that for the combat mechanics they took the same ones they used in Xenoblade and refined and improved it, but it’s mostly the same. Are you familiar with how it works in Xenoblade at all? If you haven’t played Xenoblade I’d suggest giving that game a shot it’ll give you many hours of enjoyment. Dark-Link73 Mmmm….. I know it was part of Operation Rainfall! 😀 lol. I know that Xenoblade is s big J-RPG, big in Japan. I heard is really good, but I don’t remember hearing or reading anything about the combat mechanics. I also think that Nintendo made a huge mistake by giving GameStop exclusivity release (besides Nintendo’s own online store). I’m one of those who believe they were holding back their inventory, so when Nintendo sold out, GameStop opened the cases to sell them as “used” and inflated the prices to $90. The prices are finally down $50/$60 last time I checked. Fred Nintendo made a lot of mistakes with this game. I”m convinced this game could have and should have sold millionS in the US! I’m not kidding you it’s an incredible game. If you don’t believe me check out the march maddness touranament that Nintendo World Report is doing. They did a bracket of the 68 best games on Nintendo systems over the last 15 years. Xenoblade just reached the final 4!!! Granted they’ll probably lose this round, but top 4 from games on Nintendo systems over the last 15 years is really good. http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/36937/nwr-15th-birthday-the-best-game-of-the-past-15-years-final-four Dark-Link73 Oh no, I believe you, don’t worry. In not just much of a traditional turn-based RPG gamer. I’ll check it out. 🙂 Fred It’s certainly not a traditional turn-based JRPG. During battles you control your characters movement in real time.In fact wheather you hit from the front back or side of the enemy makes a difference in how much damage they take. your hits and blocks happen in real time when you push the button, but similar to turn-based RPGs you do select your move from a list and after you use a move there’s a cool down time before you can use it again. I wouldn’t call it turn based, but I’ve heard others do so. Dark-Link73 Do you know if X will be a like sequel/prequel to Xenoblade or a standalone title? Fred We don’t know for sure. Nintendo hasn’t said, but in one of the trailers there is a shot of what looks like Shulk (the main character from Xenoblade), but it could just be a guy that looks similar. Hopefully we’ll learn soon Fred https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M69rPbLb1fg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8h21vOilq4k This is pure speculation, but it’s at least based on the trailers Fred The Gamestop opening new games to sell them as used theory, I’ve never seen anything that says it even might be false so I’m going to assume it’s true. I bought my copy after it sold out everywhere, but before the “used” controversy, and I spent $80 on mine, but I’ve never gotten a better deal on a game in my life. It was worth that and more. I have no regrets paying $80 for it, but I would have never been willing to if I hadn’t already rented it from Gamefly and played it for a week (about 20 hours) I saw that I wasn’t very far in yet so I was pretty sure it would still be worth the price. Dark-Link73 Paying $80 for a game nowadays seem like an outrage because today’s expectations. But I remember paying up to $70 for new N64 games almost 20 years ago and nobody hesitated buying them because it was the expectation of that time. greengecko007 When was Zelda U even hinted at coming out in November of last year? Nintendo has been very tight lipped about it, but said in 2012 that they were aimimg for a 2014 release date, which now is quite unlikely. Dark-Link73 I don’t remember, I don’t have the habit of bookmarking articles for further reference, but I do remember that either Aonuma or Iwata said that WWHD was being release because they had hoped to have Zelda U out by 2014 but it was taking much longer to develop it than anticipated. greengecko007 Well, that haven’t hinted at a release date yet. Most people are already assuming a 2015 release date at the earliest, especially since we’re getting Hyrule Warriors AKA filler Zelda this year supposedly. Dark-Link73 I know. When I heard about the release of HW I had a strong feeling we would be getting Zelda U at least until next year. Some sites are already speculating that Zelda U won’t come out until 2016 due to Nintendo’s history of releasing Zelda games one and a half years to two and a half years after announcing it on e3. I think there’s a higher change of the game being released on ’15 than ’16 because the game has been on development for at least a year to two. As for the pre-order page at Walmart.com for “Zelda 2” coming out this November, I wouldn’t be shocked if it was in fact for Zelda U, but realistically speaking I think is for HW. Ony 51! …I would like to say 🙁 In some years maybe. abe I’m cool with my Wii u being home to awesome exclusives and unique indie games jjbredesen Yeah, now if we only could get Minecraft i would be really happy! Oh and i would like to point out that Unity is free to use, only costs $75 a month if you want to use the pro version, and you don’t really need it to make great games. abe On the Minecraft front, that new web frame work engine (they showed Mario vs donkey Kong) suports Java games which of cause is what the PC Minecraft runs in. So either majong could use a small team to port it or someone else will do it and “clone” it Moreck Especially now that Mojang have a lot of the game coded in both Java and C+ now from the Xbox port abe They made it for the raspberry Pi, if they can make it work for that getting it on Wii U and 3DS should be easy Enough. Linskarmo My main issue with Unity is that I have no idea how to use it. Donaald That is so great, that is so awesome, I wonder why can’t many people buy games from the eshop… Richard Branches Yeah, like me! I don’t want to buy phisical copies, I want to buy all the games on the eshop instead, but in my country (colombia) still the eshop is not available… 🙁 Donaald Yo me conformo con poder actualizar mis juegos de VC. Ocio Aguilera eres de Colombia? yo también Ocio Aguilera Te recomiendo cambiar en tu configuración tu país. Di que eres de Nueva York, así hice yo y no tengo ningún problema con Eshop Richard Branches si! si tienes wii u agregame a tu lista de amigos…mi username es delacosta78 Richard Branches si! si tienes wii u agregame a tu lista de amigos, mi username es delacosta78 Mario Trust me, with the crazy stuff happening in South America, I doubt it would be that easy. Donaald But I’m not from South America 🙁 NintendoFan Where are you from? Donaald Avalon NintendoFan What country is that? lol my Geography skills Donaald http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avalon Mario Nope. But I am. comeonnintendo wii u is becoming ouya 2.0 Gentle Robot Usually 2.0 comes out AFTER 1.0 Daniel Gonzalez Probably because Ouya is 1.0 Magnus Eriksson Showelware. darkcreap Sorry Magnus. Normally I understand (and agree with) your criticism, but I simply don’t know why you just say that all those indie games are bound to be shovelware. Magnus Eriksson No, indiegames in general are not. But these games will be. uPadWatcher Salty… darkcreap All 50? Come on man :). OK, it’s your opinion, I respect it, although I disagree. Laer_HeiSeiRyuu Bullshit is what it is. Dont insult our games. Cyberus Wii U: Hey look, literally anyone and everyone can publish games on this thing. Unless they own a company BrandonIsAGod They won’t move tons consoles by being basically an indie console with some Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda, or Metroid games, it just won’t happen. Nintendo needs to come up with a plan to move large amounts of consoles.. Daniel Gonzalez They need third party, simple as that. 1st party helps, but it can only help the Wii U survive. Magnus Eriksson I dont understan why they wont go third party themselves? I dont see one good argument for not to. Specially not from a consumers perspective. As third parties they could release Zelda and Metroid for Playstation and XBox, and Mario games for phones and pads. Gabe Hoffman If you have nothing better to do than bitch and moan about how much you think Wii U is failing then you really oughta go find another place to complain Magnus Eriksson Why is this bitching and complaining? I honestly believe this would be better for Nintendo and more importantly for us consumers. I dont see any reason at all for them to produce consoles. 1. they dont sell. 2. they are not good enough 3. no one supports them. However their games. Many like them. Why shouldnt Nintendo stick to what they know best? Making games. Brandon Olson Rare went to Microsoft. Look what happened when they shifted? Could you imagine a Sony or Microsoft influenced Nintendo game? Fuck that. Daniel Gonzalez It would be bad ass. Brandon Olson My concern is that Nintendo titles would be pushed out instead of perfected (or at least made really damn good), and that unnecessary DLC would be pushed out for what should be considered complete games. Yeah they did DLC for games like Super Mario Bros. 2 and U but most content in 1st party games are jam-packed. They could still be good, but they would be stained by being on other consoles kinda like what happened with Sonic IMO. And I love Sonic. But now he’s hit or miss. And I can guarantee you that many of the people that complained about Wii U would complain about the state Nintendo was in as a 3rd party, missing the days when the consoles were all about the games. Just to prove my whole view of the gaming world being ass-backwards right. This generation of gaming sucks. /old man Daniel Gonzalez I was being sarcastic. Though to be fair, Nintendo way back when it was a third party didn’t have a lot to offer vs today. So, if Nintendo went third party now, they have a good rep to go by and I don’t believe they would fall in that situation. Mind you, this is only a what if. David Trail They would end up like Rare. No thank you. Daniel Gonzalez Sarcasm, Davey boy. Sarcasm. David Trail Sure Magnus Eriksson They dont have to be microsoft, they could be a third party dev to them and not a first party. Trevor No, it would be ruined. jrob23 poor troll…they do sell (wii sold the most)…they are good enough (there is nothing wrong with the tech)…and plenty support them. Maybe not dude bro shooters or rehash Madden but there is a substantial library of games already for the Wii U from 3rd parties Magnus Eriksson They are not doing well at all. And yes the Wii sold, but those days are gone now and they wont come back. Nintendo had a lucky shot with the Wii. Wii U, GCN and N64 are really more defining for what Nintendo is. Virtual Boy too to a certain degree. Even a blind chicken can find a corn you know. nexxus6 What about the NES, SNES, DS, 3DS, etc? Do you chose only certain aspects of Nintendo to support whatever point your are trying to make? Also, selling as many consoles as the Wii did isn’t “lucky”. jrob23 do you and Danielle go around patting each other’s asses and upvoting one another in every forum? Him more so than you, but the sadness deepens for you guys, really. Nintendo is a game company that sells hardware to further that endeavor. They do pretty well and I think we (and Sony) wished they were as successful. Wii was an outlier and the Wii U is in dire straights. Doesn’t make it bad tech nor does it mean they should stop making consoles. They HAVE to make consoles to sell their software. Plus having them make consoles pushes the others to raise their efforts. David Trail Because they are in a better position financially than Sony. Magnus Eriksson Thats not an answer to anything. Thats just a fanboy statement. David Trail It is the truth. Magnus Eriksson The truth is that they cannot make a system that they provide wit enough games. As third party devs they could use their resources on what is most important – making games. From a consumers perspective this is more interesting. uPadWatcher The real truth is Sony is under JUNK STATUS. David Trail I have more than enough games dude. I have no idea what you are talking about. Carlos Coronado Then why sony doesn’t drop the vita and give everything from the handheld division to the 3ds because you know how bad the vita is doing and how good the 3ds is doing. Magnus Eriksson Vita is doing way better than Wii U. Carlos Coronado No is not it hasn’t even been able to sell in the 2 of the vita life has sold 7.8 and the 3ds sell almost or more than double that every year 43.5 and the Wii U has sold in one year of his life around 5.8 million so is selling more than the vita in the long run. Magnus Eriksson Unlikely Carlos Coronado Why Not? It seems very like that it will. David Trail No it isn’t Wii U is doing better than vita. Vita was out an extra year. uPadWatcher Never compare a home console to a portable console, Meg. Double standards. Laer_HeiSeiRyuu Vita’s doing worse than the WiiU. shit the PS3 did worse than the wiiu its first year URFTBOUND4LIFE . Ok, I’ll bite. Nintendo shouldn’t go third party for many reasons. 1. Nintendo would make less money on their games in the long run an the value of their intellectual properties will decrease over time. 2. Going 3rd party does not guarantee they will be more successful.Sonic Generations ,Rayman Origins and Legends,Playstation All-stars and Sly Cooper 4 are proof that the culture on PS and XBOX have changed. Nintendo caters more towards kids, families and oldschool gamers.Sony Microsoft caters more to teens, young adults, I don’t see that changing anytime soon or working out for Nintendo. 3. Nintendo will become too dependent on their more successful IP’s. If you think they make too many Mario or Zelda games now, just imagine if they went 3rd party. Say goodbye to Starfox, Metroid, F-Zero,Fire Emblem,Mother forever! They don’t guarantee sales. Nothing but Mario,Pokemon,Zelda and the occasional Kirby games. Also by making the same games over and over you’ll see those games lacking more in quality because of rushed deadlines or lack of passion. Just like a certain blue hedgehog. 4. Because of reasons 1 and 2 they run the risk of loosing more studios.Intelligent Systems,HAL Labs,Retro,GoodFeel, 5.Going mobile would kill their handheld division which is actually doing fine. People would stop buying their handhelds and their games. What you and many people suggested makes the problem worse. Gabe Hoffman Indie games are third party in a sense. Sure they may not sell systems but they provide a way to fill in droughts. I say Nintendo is wise to focus on indie development. If they can’t get the major AAA publishers on board then indies are the next best thing. Would it surprise you if I told there are more indie games I am potentially interested in than games from the big fish developers? Daniel Gonzalez “Would it surprise you if I told there are more indie games I am potentially interested in than games from the big fish developers?” Not one bit. I enjoy indie games myself. However, they aren’t games that sell hardware. That’s what I was getting at. There’s a reason why Big Fish companies are called exactly that. Indies someday might get that same status, but Nintendo doesn’t have someday for the Wii U. Gabe Hoffman Exclusives are what sell systems not multiplats Daniel Gonzalez Tell that to Rockstar Games. Magnus Eriksson To be honest the best thing would be if Nintendo didnt accept Indiedevs. I think its horrible to think about all those devs that bet on Nintendo just to be dragged sown along with the sinking ship. They wont do Nintendo any good, and Nintendo wont do them any good for sure. Look at Three tribes, they had to close down mainly because of Nintendo. Gabe Hoffman That is the most idiotic statement I have ever heard of. Why do you think Sony has been pushing for indie support so much? So you basically say courting indie developers is a bad thing? It wasn’t Nintendo’s fault Toki Tori 2 bombed. Two Tribes mainly bit off more than they could chew in terms of ambition David Trail Idiot Magnus Eriksson Just a proof that you are not grown up enough to discuss properly. Come bac when you are old enough. nexxus6 Way to blame Nintendo for another company’s short comings. That is a pretty thin argument. Please try again. David Troll Magnus smart > David Trail idiot lmao! Quicksilver88 Dude…some Indy games have sold better on WiiU than ps3 or x360…..with them having a more than 10x bigger user base. So eShop is a viable platform. Also getting into WiiU development is very easy/cheap and you can self publish. WiiU has met far more kickstarter stretch goals than ps360. So it is a viable platform for Indies….also M$ pissed off a lot of Indies because they had titles that sold well on x360 but sill did not make good money because of M$ policies. So no one is going bankrupt supporting WiiU, especially with Unity making for quick/cheap ports from the highly viable PC indy scene. BrandonIsAGod Yes, they are third party, but not many people buy 300$ consoles to play indie games. People, like myself bought the Wii U mainly for their first party titles, but also adopted the console because we were told that the Wii U will have amazing third party support, from devs such as EA, Activision, Ubisoft, Warner Bros, etc, and now there is very little to no support from those devs, who were once strongly onboard with the console, at least when they console was released. I don’t know what went wrong, but it sucks knowing I paid 350$ for a console that’ll only get a big game once every 6ish months (sometimes less I guess, like with 3D World, DKCTF and MK8), if you’re lucky, whereas yearly, on the PS4, and XBONE, they’ll be getting tons of games from those third party devs, as well as those first party games, while we get shafted. People won’t buy the Wii U when those third party games that usually lead the sales charts in the majority of planet earth don’t even come near the Wii U, they’ll go out and buy the PS4 and XBONE. I have no issue with indie games whatsoever, but I didn’t pay the big price of 350$ to play indie games, with very few first party games being released every year, when I could play indie games on my PC. Either Nintendo needs to get third party support onboard with their console, or invest into new first party studios so that Nintendo actually has a considerable amount of big games released on their console. They could continue with their indie support, because supporting those indie devs is great, but it can only get you so far. They lost a lot of support due to the reaction from gamers with the Wii, and seem to be unable to patch things up in the market with the Wii U. leo They NEED to cut some deals with 3rd parties. Like exclusive DLC for the wii u version or some crap like that. Nintendo really has fucked up this gen Laer_HeiSeiRyuu No. leo Then make the console more enticing to 3rd party developers. Hell give a quick spotlight on a direct. You cant deny the fact wii u NEEDS third party support. Laer_HeiSeiRyuu Nintendo’s done that before, they did it with the launch of the console. The third parties backed out. Former exclusives also became non exclusive. The problem is NIntendo’s marketing money’s divided sorely between 3DS and WiiU earlier. The WiiU doesnt need every AAA third party game either. Especially if people arent interested in buying that shit. What Nintendo needs to do is push their systems install base so they get a title here and there while the indies and the Nintendo funded exclusives become the systems backbone and what people look forward to every other month or so. From there Nintendo needs to go HAM on the marketing. And they’re already starting on that now. You can see MK8 ads on youtube right now HydePark1980 I don’t really have much faith left in third parties anyway, so should I really be upset by this? Daniel Gonzalez You tell us. David Trail I love indies! David Troll Indie games > Nintendo games lmao! uPadWatcher I said shut up, Meg. David Troll Meg > uPadWatcher lmao! Gabe Hoffman Yeesh I would think people would be happy on this but instead I find a bunch of people moaning and complaining about how its not enough. David Trail Indies > aaa David Troll aaa and indies > Nintendo lmao! uPadWatcher You really are reaching for wood, Meg. David Troll My wood > your wood lmao! Laer_HeiSeiRyuu Wood you say? http://sociorocketnewsen.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/2ds-3.jpg?w=580&h=720 Gamepad is gonna cut ya. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BodNRjVCHjU David Trail Indies and Nintendo exclusives is all I need! David Troll PS4, Xbox One,PC and indie games > Nintendo games lmao! uPadWatcher Shut up, Meg. David Troll PS4 > uPadWatcher lmao! leo dont feed the troll 🙂 Kidvizious Just imagine if this console had third party support. It’s amazing for Indies and First and Second parties but 3rd parties is virtually absent :/ Laer_HeiSeiRyuu Me? I just want Metal Gear, Guilty Gear and Mirrors Edge. Dont care about anything else. If I did I’d play it on PC. uPadWatcher Are you kidding me… Unity 5? Imagine an indie game on the Wii U powered by the Unity 5 engine. If it’s true, I’m completely sold. leo aweshum darkcreap Well, at least that are some good games. I hope indies can give a little bit of life to the WiiU since it is being ignored by traditional third parties. Maybe, if it takes speed, third parties will come back on board. Or not. Nevertheless, there are some good indie offers right now on the WiiU. I enjoyed Trine 2 and The Cave incredibly. Bobby P. Nintendo will not look to bring giant developers to their level, but they will raise the indies up under Nintendo. It will be Nintendo and Steam that the next Naughty dog or Retro will thank for helping to launch them of the basement where they developed the first hit. steveb944 Am I the only one that wants realistic looking graphics out of this and not some more cartoon and 2D platforming? Give me that title, along with a good length and I’ll buy. But what I’ve seen so far in the Shop hasn’t impressed me. leo all these indies games use this “artistic style” of graphics. Which I think is total BS. Im with you on that we need more realism Laer_HeiSeiRyuu Who need’s realism? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iVECKCnB4Y Low graphics realism tends to look like shit anyway. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSfakMeW0lw leo well if you want to be taken serious then yes , you need realism to some degree. What do you think of when you hear cryengine? Laer_HeiSeiRyuu Monster Hunter Online. Shadows of the Eternals Sonic Boom An engine that’s a “perfect fit” for the WiiU EA Cancelling Cryteks Graphical Showcase for the WiiU at launch. And by extension Lucas Films dying and their X-Wing game for the WiiU never seeing release. Realism is for children and painters. And folks who like Battlefield. Would you rather play Battlefield or BattleFront 3? Shit even the last of us isnt realistic. Carlos Webster Okay, good news. Sdudyoy Exciting, I don’t know how many of these games will actually worth buying though. Bobby P. Im glad Nintendo is not chasing 3rd party publishers who aren’t interested, I prefer to see Nintendo discover the next Naughty dog or Retro making games in a basement somewhere. HydePark1980 Personally with this new generation I see a lot of third parties going under. Worst case scenario we may be facing another industry crash, developers are again falling into the bad habit of creating games with flash but very little substance. Publishers are spending millions on development, and the end result is nothing more than a “one and done title”. Replay-ability in gaming hasn’t been a priority since the early 2000’s. Bobby P. I know what you mean carebear, its like these studios are trying to make movies out of games now. Replayability is gone to most developers, they rather you buy skins instead of unlocking them. leo well lets hope we get those games sooner rather than later eahy? Laer_HeiSeiRyuu 17 coming out in the next tow months RyuNoHadouken i was so stoked for Wii U and bought one on launch…it now collects dust for the most part…although, i did beat DK recently and picked up SM3DW for my son the other day which, btw, he hasnt even played it because he’s been on Infamous Second Son…but, i think ill pop in Mario in a few and give it a whirl David Trail Infamous wow you prefer inferior products. Good for you guys. RyuNoHadouken awww, someone’s mad…how cute David Trail Pikmin 3 88% > Infamous Second Son only 80% lmao! RyuNoHadouken two totally different styles of games…not even in the same universe…btw, my son just beat infamous(good choices)…logged in a little over 30 hours…im gonna playthrough and pick all the bad choices to see how it plays out…but i think im gonna do a playthrough of Mario 3D world first Laer_HeiSeiRyuu Lego City undercover is the same thing actually.. Infamous is a little short RyuNoHadouken yeah, I would say infamous could be beaten(main campaign) in a little over 10 hours…my son spent a lot of time doing side quests and just running around Seattle Laer_HeiSeiRyuu Looks like you need some help http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wii_U_games RyuNoHadouken why you say that? because i mentioned Infamous on a Wii U board? man, go to bed Laer_HeiSeiRyuu Because you’re letting a perfectly good console, with a dearth of content go to waste. RyuNoHadouken content valuable in your eyes, not mine…im not into indie games and release calendar filler Laer_HeiSeiRyuu Unlike you it seems im a connoisseur of well rounded gaming. Sure there are things I dont like, such as sandbox games but I wont turn down a damn fine title lol. Heck the genre I like most is strategy RyuNoHadouken ill buy Fire Emblem on Wii U if they ever release it WellWisher Wow the negativity in these comments sections is understandable. Nintendo dropped the ball: simple as that. But where are the defenders? Even the most extreme of fanboys seem to be losing their fire. The Wii U could fade into irrelevance before Mario Kart even launches at this rate. David Trail No chance! WellWisher Ah there’s still some fire left. Good to see! Gabriel Morales As an avid Nintendo advocate I’ve lost the will to argue with the nay sayers. Not because I’ve lost hope in the company, it’s just that no matter what I say they always just respond with “what ever fag Nintendo is for kids”. If I wanted to talk to ignorant a holes I’d talk to my older brother who’s a Microsoft fanboy to the core. Rinslowe Unity is a great bridge. This news is pretty great all things considered. But I feel Ninty could have been even more proactive in promoting this access sooner. Laer_HeiSeiRyuu They let the games speak for themselves. They’ve been busy working since WiiU’s launch CydeFxt This good news. I like the Wii U a lot even with the little 3rd party support. David Trail I love my Wii U. It has the best exclusives. Loads of indie titles. Miiverse is great. YouTube, Netflix and love film, best Internet browser on a console, game pad is awesome, art academy, great local multiplayer games… Mario Kart 8 out real soon! wiimenonowiiu I was not expecting to buy a 350$ indie gaming console uPadWatcher Actually, it’s a $299.99 indie gaming console. wiimenonowiiu I payed 350 when it first came out deluxe set David Trail It’s got a lot if good exclusives. What games you got? wiimenonowiiu Indie games i have none do have ac4.ac3.zelda.mario.mario 3d.zombie u.nintendoland lego undercover.pikmen3.wii fit u.walkingdead i have downloaded uncharted waters smashbrolink Tried The Wonderful 101 and DKTF yet? I highly recommend both. Also look at Unepic. wiimenonowiiu I got the demo for 101 its a good game might get it later dktf is not for me the dk series i just never could get into i will be getting another lego game those are fun and mk8 ans smach bros i just wish there was better 3rd party support and nes would advertise like they did for the wii MujuraNoKamen How long till the next Direct? I think we’re a bit overdue Nintendo. uPadWatcher I have a gut feeling that they’re planning the next Nintendo Direct in May… the month of the Mario Kart 8 launch. leo hell yes its overdue leo Nintendo we Need a Direct! leo Can Nintendo please deliver and not pull some BS phrase “please understand”. X3Charlie I think I’m actually glad they haven’t done a direct. Better to wait until they have exciting things to show rather than, “next time we’ll announce something cool, meanwhile look at all this boring stuff. bobbybangin This isn’t new. I posted this over a month ago. 120 Indie games to be exact http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=69899 I posted about Unity July of last year http://www.ps3hax.net/forum.php It would have been more interesting reading about that, when it was new, rather than all the NintenDoom. Laer_HeiSeiRyuu WiiU has something like 225 independent games on the way Some have mad graphics Mo Guys… Its a fucking games console. Sheesh, do people need to be so emotional over how well it does or not?!
