Today Ubisoft released their financial results for the Q3 quarter, which gives us a look at how the company is performing overall, as well as where sales are coming from according to platform. The news for Wii U is pretty dim in this regard, as it’s been shown that the Wii U only accounted for around 2% of Ubisoft’s total sales of this quarter, which is down from 5% of last year. In comparison, the Wii still managed to contribute a hefty 11% to sales, most likely thanks to Just Dance 2014. We also learned from the financial call that the Wii U version of Watch Dogs will be delayed behind other platforms as Ubisoft attempts to focus on platforms that manage more sales, so it’s likely we could see this number decrease as people who want to play the game might buy it for another console instead of waiting for the delay. local_offer Nintendo ubisoft ubisoft sales wii u wii u sales stars Further Reading F-Zero X gets updated on Wii U to fix control New Zelda Breath of the Wild trailer and game Super Mario Maker Wii U vs 3DS comparison (vi Get Ocarina of Time on 3DS for only $14 New teaser site for Zelda: Breath of the Wild released How to track NES Classic Mini stock in time for Christmas Jc Ch These are the consecuenses for not supporting 3rd party games. We all complain that there’s no support by them but when they do release a game for the Wii U not many people buy it. Mercurio2054 because they release uncompleted games, or delayed ones. matthew garcia Its tough when wii u tech is in the middle of last gen and current gen. NkoSekirei not of these devs dont know how strong the wii u really is cause they dont take the time to push it try looking at the trailers of X is shows that monolith is pushing the system to its max matthew garcia Well thats true but development for the wii u is like starting from scratch and they dont have that kind of time. U can develop ps3 and 360 the same and ps4 and xbox1 the same but not the wii u. Thats why developers say screw it and just make it look last gen Simon Stevens Wii U is next gen, it’s just not very good next to the ps4 and xbox1 so it’ll never get third party equal to those consoles, probably because it either can’t run certain engines or developers won’t waste time trying to make it run those engines on the Wii U, sad but true I’m afraid, it’s great for third party exclusives and first party especially but to non Nintendo enthusiasts, it’s a waste of money and at only a 100 dollars cheaper in the US, I don’t think many will pick it up over a ps4 in terms of long term value for money, it’s doing especially bad here in the UK retailing around 179 – 249 gbp (Wii U doesn’t even have a pound signm how sad is that?) and business still isn’t picking up for it, but that’s what you get when you implement a shoddy business model of “we’ll design our console for our own games and nobody else”. NkoSekirei its alrdy proven wii u can run unreal engine 4,frostbite engine 3,and the the one sonic boom is using as well so wii u can handle those engines but the problem is that these devs wont takes the time to see how powerful the wii u really is instead they just throw ports and broken games at us and that really pisses us off. Simon Stevens I’m not on about those engines, I’m on about future engines, I’ve seen how good graphics can look on the Wii U, pikmin 3, wind waker hd, mario 3d world, sonic lost worlds, etc, it beyond anything I’ve ever seen, devs should do a better job but they don’t and this is just were people see the Wii U right now, I’ve bought 4 wii u’s since launch so it’s fine for say me and you but for most others, without that 3rd party, they ain’t coming and that’s fair enough, I haven’t bought a ps4 because it doesn’t appeal to me, just like the Wii U doesn’t appeal to them, personally I think even if the Wii U was the most powerful console it still wouldn’t get support, but people believe what they want to believe. NkoSekirei im not disagreeing with u but i think some of these 3rd party devs are just playing the waiting game to see how mario kart 8 and super smash bros sales before deciding to make games for the wii u which its stupid cause games sell consoles not the other way around. Simon Stevens I always thought that was shitty of 3rd party, the games make the console a success but nobody seems interested in bothering to do so, but in fairness, Iwata should bend more to third party and make something happen, I’m sure we could have gotten bioshock 3 considering the dev loves Nintendo, would only take Iwata having a word snd get a ball rolling. NkoSekirei agreed and i do think things will start turning around for the wii u wen games start rolling out in coming months. Marcus Larsson Ill say it again, look at vgchartz ever since n64/gc the only games that sells on a nintendo-console is nintendo exclusives or games with party in the titles. This is what the people buy when they own a nintendo-console, therefore the third party wont make games for a nintendo-console. Sure if the install-base is 60-100 million like wii then you have a bigger chance but even with that the best sold third party game was Just dance. THIS IS THE PROBLEM WITH NINTENDO. When people buy ps4s and xbones they have a couple of exclusives to expect. but the they have a lot more new third party games coming out that gets hyped, and thats why third partys make their money on em. Nintendo overshadows its third party games. Simon Stevens Even though you’ve never said that to me lol you are absolutely right, I’m surprised anybody on here even got excited over watchdogs and assassins etc, because it really doesn’t seem like it’s something the Nintendo audience would do, you know what your getting with Nintendo, a boat load of amazing games plus many times of feeling “here we go here we go here we go, here we go here we go here we goooooooo :D” *cut to Nintendo Direct* “please understand” “no we don’t no we don’t no we don’t :(“ matthew garcia I looked at spec differences between wii u and ps4 and its a pretty big gap matthew garcia I agree man. Nintendo kinda made the same mistake of thinkin they could pull another wii but the casual gamers arent there anymore. Now nintendo is like what the hell do we do Simon Stevens I’d be making some heads roll if I was at Nintendo, they need to quit being naive, I’m tired of the “please understand” no you understand!, this is bullshit NkoSekirei the only head that needs to roll is iwata Simon Stevens Definately, I bet he blames poor Reggie who really worked his buns off last year for the Wii U matthew garcia They need to quit living in the 90s. Simon Stevens I can’t agree with that, I love the 90s and the smashing pumpkins 🙂 who wouldn’t wanna live there matthew garcia Hey im a huge smashing pumpkins fan , tool fan, and alice 8n chains fan I know the 90s were great. I just meant there not to much on the tech. 8 mean cmon they have a 32g hardrive my cellphone has more space Daniel Gonzalez You read my mind. Daniel Gonzalez Most casuals moved on to mobile devices. Plenty of simple games to keep them busy from the android and Apple app store. Nintenjoe82 £ – it’s on the second page of symbols Simon Stevens Thanks, I never even noticed that lol Daniel Gonzalez Yep. People can call Sony and Microsoft developer’s bitches if they like, but the truth of the matter is, they have get most of the third party. Even both get their share of third party exclusives, which is hard to come by for Nintendo. At the moment, Wii U is just made for Nintendo fans in mind. So with that said, third parties will go where they are more welcomed. It’s no one’s problem but Nintendo. Either adapt, or dig a bigger hole. Either way, no skin off my back. Simon Stevens Nintendo are far and wide my favorite company, what I hate though is how I have to have another console along side of it, mostly because Sony get really good interesting exclusives, as well as the most jrpgs, but the main reason is third party games like the elder scrolls, games that because of Nintendo not reaching out and forming relationships, they don’t get, I couldn’t give a chicken stuffing about most third party games on other consoles as too my eyes anyway, it’s toilet, and Nintendo tend to have the best first party games chalked full of charm and quality, but for games like bioshock, borderlands, elder scrolls, tales and many other third party games, you simply have to look at other options, it shouldn’t be that way….. but it is. Marcus Larsson Well said sir Mercurio2054 they aren’t staring from scratch. they know the Wii U, and the game was almost completed the last year… this is not the case. matthew garcia Look we can all look for excuses but really its nintendos fault. They thought the wii u could do another wii success and they failed. They thought they could ride the coattails of wiis success but they were wrong now there left with a console nobody wants to develop for Brandon Thats true, plus later on the 3rd party supporters are probably going to give up on the wii u cause its not going to be powerful enough for the engine unless the remove certain features of it for the wii u and also because of the ram being alot less. Mercurio2054 enhe Jon I don’t think the tech decides if the DLC is included or not when it is just an extension of the same game. matthew garcia Well no but they dont include dlc obviously not enough copies are being sold to even care to add it. There real profit is being made on other consoles anyway Jon They said they were not going to give the DLC to the Wii U before pre-orders were even available, matthew garcia Look man the console is just not selling well. They base alot off of that also Sydney Ultrasyd Then buy at least to show them that they are wrong 🙁 You just make they feel they are right and make them wanna do even less next time as no one buys. Personally, if the game is nice, the lack of one little feature doesnt dramatically change the experience. I understand what you say but this way, we’ll just end up with no games at all. NkoSekirei i do buy 3rd party games like rayman legends, assassin creed 4,splinter cell black list and the ones i got from launch Mercurio2054 so do i.. but i don’t have SCBL NkoSekirei the single player on black list was awsome but the multiplayer was $hit abe as a weird boycott of ubisoft i only buy the wii u versions of their games, no wii u version no buy. i’ve bought almost every (no rabbid, no just dance, fighter within) from ubisoft over the years. but recently their continually cutting of Wii u content is getting to me Frankie Ubisoft is rehasing the same games every year. The Wii U versions are ports of other versions, why would people want to play a downgraded game when they can play the full game elsewhere. MujuraNoKamen I thought AC4 was supposed to be a solid port (AC3 was) So what if it didn’t get some tacky DLC? no one here cared for it anyway. Frankie If you are going to buy a game, why would you get the ported version that does not come with DLC. The fact is Ubisoft screws Nintendo, then blames Nintendo. Umjereni Geez, I’m buying a game to play it and enjoy it. I would never buy a game just because there will maybe be a DLC. And besides that, AC$ is not a port. Neither is Rayman. Frankie AC is a port because it is developed on PC and made for Xbox and PlayStation, then ported to Nintendo. Rayman is not a port, but Ubisoft screwed Nintendo over by not making it an exclusive at the last minute. Umjereni Look, who on earth cares what is a port and what is not a port? Why the hell should I care. A game is either good or it is not. If it’s good, I like to play and enjoy it. Why should I be so mental insane to care about whether Ubisoft programmed something in their labs on a PC, Mac, PS, Xbox or Wii U. They have to do the game somewhere and than port it to all other platforms. A port of a Zelda game to a PS or Xbox would still be a 10 times better game than 90% of what is released on those consoles. Frankie No one cares if it is a port, but Ubisoft ports the game to the Wii U without giving it the same care as the PlayStation or Xbox versions. Ubisoft should put more time and effort into those games because they make more money, but Ubisoft should not blame Nintendo fans for not buying their games on a Nintendo console, when they are available else where and are better. A Zelda port would most likely suck because it is designed around the Nintendo hardware. The consoles all have different strengths. Porting Skyward Sword to a 360 would result in god awful Kinect controls. MujuraNoKamen If I actually wanted the DLC I’d go for the version that includes it but since no one here cares about DLC why should that stop us buying a good port of good game? It’s just excuses all the time from Wii U owners if you don’t care about AC just say so. Don’t Claim that you would have otherwise bought the game & hate on Ubisoft for not including a pointless feature that you hated anyway. Frankie I do not buy AC because it is a rehash of the same game every year, but it is a port for the Wii U. A very good port, but still a port. MujuraNoKamen OK, If AC isn’t your thing then that’s fine I just get annoyed when people say they’ll buy games they have no interest in then they don’t buy it and make excuses blaming the devs for not making the DLC that they’d have hated anyway. cThreep It all comes down to install base, not many people have a Wii U when compared to a PS3 or XBOX 360. If every Wii U owner went out and bought a Ubisoft game right now, we’d still only make up about 10% of their total sales. Okay, 10% was a total estimate and not a real calculated number, but you get the idea. Umjereni Yes, but compare it with the PS4 and Xbox One. They already have a share of about 12% and 9%% respectively! That’s the disastrous part about the Wii U. The new consoles are barely two months in the shops and they already have double the number of games compared to the Wii U. Jon well… lets see, we know Rayman Legends sold best on the Wii U (unless the numbers have changed since I last looked) so if a game is made for the Wii U and the Wii U is given all the content, it will sell. ACIV they gave the Wii U the shaft by not giving the DLC. The low sales for the Wii U are their own fault. Other than that, they gave up nothing all year round pretty much except for cloudberry kingdom matthew garcia Well its cuz rayman represents the wii u better with the kiddie side scroller style lol Marcus Larsson It has changed it sold a little better on ps3. Not by much tho Gardevoir Eliz double post. Gardevoir Eliz just play Assassin’s Creed with your smartphone on your side, Ubisoft games are all the same shit, and they are terrible. I bet that in this game you can jump in a pile of trash (instead of haystack) and the stupid enemy will notice nothing. The Clockwork Being Yep look at Wonderful 101. People wanted a new I.P. we give it to them and no one buys it. Whats the point then? When Miyamoto’s new I.P comes out people will say: ”Why get that when I can get Zelda? Or any game from a series I already know?” Jc Ch You said it man.! Let’s just hope Bayonetta 2 has better cuz if not in the end we’ll be the ones to blame for not supporting these exclusive titles. MujuraNoKamen I really hope so but if W101 crashed after the hype we gave it then I don’t hold out much hope for B2. I really hope I’m wrong but W101 was an amazing game, it was a 3rd party exclusive that filled the void for a new IP, it was original, funny and embodied everything that we praise Nintendo games for (colour, deep gameplay, creativity, fun) and people ignored it just because it Shigeru Miyamoto didn’t make it. I was never expecting it to do as well as say Zelda or Mario but for a game like that to do so poorly really makes you think about the fate of Wii U and in the long term Nintendo as a whole. And B2 will be launching at a time when (hopefully) some Nintendo games will be released so for right or wrong it’ll be overshadowed. Arthur Jarret The first pikmin didn’t get many sales compared with known Nintendo IP’s either. If I would make a new IP, I’d put a ‘2’ behind the title just to gather more sales. MujuraNoKamen Good point and good idea 🙂 But even then, the game had so much going for it yet no one acted on all the praise we gave it, it wouldn’t bother me so much but the Wii U library still isn’t as strong as it could/should be, people complain that there’s nothing to play yet they pass up on a game like W101 it’s just so sad… Arthur Jarret I know – I really enjoyed it a lot. It deserved a lot more praise, too. It was my fav game last year (almost tied with link between worlds and ace detective 5) abe it didn’t help that in reviews, it suffered from the dark souls double standard (difficulty and low tutorials), individual reviewers inability to draw a circle Frankie Most of Platinum’s games sell horrible. MujuraNoKamen I know, they deserve so much better but still with the amount of people who praised W101 up until its release you’d have thought it at least wouldn’t have bombed in sales. Especially not when all the 1st party games we’re waiting for still aren’t that close and for a over year now people have been complaining that there’s nothing to play. matthew garcia Lets u know lots of wii u’s may be colloecting dust. If there not playing these games and there not selling well they cant be playing the same games for months. What else could they playing Diaz That mainly happens because people who have nothing better to do only like to bitch about Nintendo. Notice how they keep quiet when Sony and Microsoft struggle. matthew garcia Sony and microsoft are not struggling right now they have record selling conoles right now. No console has sold faster then xbox 1 and ps4 at that early of a lifespan Diaz The consoles may be selling well but Sony as a whole isn’t doing too good while Microsoft’s video game division isn’t very profitable. Actually isn’t Sony really in debt? Daniel Gonzalez No, that’s the prediction. That Sony has a 79% chance of going bankrupt within two years. So, what you hear a lot around the media is just rumors and predictions. Their gaming division isn’t doing so well and the PS4 could break them if it doesn’t turn into a success during it’s life. Sony as a whole company, isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. They cover a lot of business within electronics, music, movies and animation as well. Not to mention television along with successful subsidiaries. Just like some people want Nintendo to go third party, it’s basically similar people out there that want Sony to fall too. Have haters of all kinds. Diaz actually the constant competition with company’s like apple and samsung has Sony struggling in areas outside of their PS division. The Vaio computers and Bravia television lines don’t sell well compared to their competitors who sell the same quality stuff for lower the price. http://www.cnbc.com/id/101161687 (probably could’ve found a better source but meh) Although the PS4 may be doing very well they are still bleeding money through the PSvita and they are still suffering the effects of the PS3’s launch. http://www.extremetech.com/computing/175350-microsoft-delivers-record-revenue-profits-due-to-strong-xbox-windows-phone-and-commercial-sales At best Microsoft is breaking even with the Xbox. Marcus Larsson The phone-department including tablets have changed in to very profitable for Sony and now they are getting rid of there vaio-production. If anything would fail they would sell of the different departments to keep those they are getting profit from. So if anyone says Sony is gonna disappear is dead wrong just as with nintendo going Third party matthew garcia Sony is not doing well as a company but ps4 is on pace to be the best selling console of all time. Give it 2 years the price will drop on it and will make huge profit on ps4 Daniel Gonzalez As a company, they are pretty stable. Their gaming division however, is suffering. So it’s depending on the PS4’s success. McBlink This comment makes no sense. How will dropping the price give them a bigger margin? matthew garcia In 2 years ps4 will be cheaper to build McBlink I get that but they’re canceling out their profit margin by dropping the price. Sony is very stingy when it comes to price cuts and has a history of waiting 2 years or more. matthew garcia Kinda like how nintendo 1st party games stay 50 bucks forever Brandon Sony is not in dept it’s stable at this point, but they will bring the company back up again. They’ve just sold there pc division so some of that profit will probably go to playstation. As of microsoft, their doing fine even in the gaming division. These console dont seem like their going to fail, not much confidence in the wii u though. The Clockwork Being Actually Sony is. The only healthy part of Sony right now is the PS division. Sonic the Hedgehog Woah! Just like my fanboys… Sydney Ultrasyd That’s exactly what i think. People are always complaining. Childish. Ubisoft is right to delay the game on Wii U and put their staff where it will pay off as the game’s development is late. Just think about it : if you skip games “because rayman was delayed and there was no dlc in whatever game”, you just prove them that they are right. If they release a game and it doesnt sell well at all, they will put less effort next time. And that’s exactly WHERE you have to buy the game to show them that they are wrong, and there is a good potential on WiiU. Rayman delayed ? Who cares,, the game is there and cool. If you buy nothing” because this or that”, then they can really say “see, let’s skip the WiiU”. So Watch dogs is delayed, the dev team for WiiU will be reduced, game rushed on our platform, performing even less good than on Ps3 and Xbox, and next time with Assassin’s Creed V they will just skip the WiiU….. Ah but I can hear you, “we don’t care about those bad games and they delayed Rayman”. We all say that the WiiU is next gen but the lazy devs don’t take time to push the machine. How do you want them to work more specifically on the WiiU if sales are so low ? And who cares about the lack of a stupid DLC you have to buy ? Off screen play on the game pad is the best feature, period. ETeach That’s all well and good, but it’s true that if they delay their WiiU games for too long, people will just buy them on other consoles. It’s kind of a cyclical cycle: Developers won’t put as much into games on the system because there aren’t enough people buying them, and then gamers won’t want to buy those games because they’re lacking in content of quality. Really, it seems like it’s up to Nintendo to keep themselves afloat. Enough relying on 3rd parties, that obviously isn’t working. Arthur Jarret I cancelled my Watchdogs preorder for PS4… so that means I can boycot them for this delay that goes entirely against the publically listed reasons to delay Rayman on Wii U – all while the Wii U version will compare more favourably compared to other consoles because one of the other consoles has one less sale. I’ll pick it up used a few months later. Saul Rivera Hey I do my part…I always buy a ton of 3rd party games..and buy the same ones for my little brother..so it’s not like people aren’t buying them…we’re just not enough T-T We need more Wii U’s out there! CMB I would buy them if they did not give us half assed ports NkoSekirei lets just say ubisoft needs to stop delaying their games alrdy it really starting to tick people off whos been waiting for watch dogs to come and now they delay the wii u version so they can get the other versions done wat a joke. matthew garcia So this is why 3rd party developers dont give a shit about wii u Ninja Pirate In all fairness, it will always make less than 1/3 on a Nintendo console compared to the other two (or at least 90% of the time) The Wii managed 13% but still trailed 360 and PS3. It only managed 4% but XBox One was at 5% while PS4 was at 8%. Those consoles have not been out nearly as long, but the console numbers are close to equal of the Wii U, so the fact that it’s still trailing those %’s but not by much, seems pretty normal to me? I’m not sure, it’s just the way I see it. It’s not as gloomy as it might seem. But more support for third party games from Wii U owners would definitely be a big boost for the system. Bob Wilkerson Maybe if they quit delaying games and cutting out features and DLC for only Nintendo systems then maybe it would be more. I know it is a hard concept for these gaming companies to grasp but this whole mistreatment of the Wii U/Nintendo versions of the games is a big factor why sales are lower. Sydney Ultrasyd The 1st point is : they made a game specially for wiiu, it didnt sell well… the console doesnt sell well, even Nintendo doesnt propose a lot and delay their games. So their natural reaction is to put less effort or delay as they suspect that it won’t sell well, they skip a few features…. no one buy because we are unhappy becase of less features, sells are low, so at the end they were right, so next time they rush the wii u port even more because last time it didnt pay off. That’s how i see it. Honestly, the fact to play on the Gamepad, to me, is much better than all their stupid DLC announced even before the release of the game. Skelterz Game developers like ubisoft pretend to be about the games and fans but just like EA and Activision there about the numbers shame really. Skelterz Ubisoft last chance rides on this game basically if they cut content they’ll be lined up with EA and the rest of them. NkoSekirei agreed URFTBOUND4LIFE . To be fair, Ubi made more games for the other platforms than Wii U. On the other hand ,this is also the result of the poor marketing job Nintendo did with the Wii U. Hopefully Watchdogs and Child of Light sell well. I know I’m buying the Wii U versions of both. NkoSekirei if they stop delaying their games that is RennanNT NOOO! Lets all put the blame on Ubisoft and forget they put a good effort on Wii U, making Zombie U and Rayman, with no decent return. Lets also forget that they didn’t ditched the Wii U, like all other did, even if they probably would profit more if they reallocated their Wii U developers to other games. HungryMetroid I’m sure zombiu didn’t sell as poorly as ubisoft claims and rayman legends sold best on wii u. as I recall rayman sold around 700,000 wii u copies in the first few weeks. RennanNT sources? I searched here and all I found its that it sold bad on Japan first week and vgchartz, which while isnt trustworth is better than nothing, says it even reached 300k on Wii U (currently 860,000 all plataforms). And considering it didnt enter the List of games which sold 1m in the last 9 months, Im forced to think you confused the numbers.. HungryMetroid I read it here on wii u daily a few months ago but I most likely confused the numbers since now that I think about it, 700,000 copies sold in a few weeks is a lot. especially for a non-first party title. tom Zombiu Sold over 700k copies! Not too shabby for a small install base but they complain they did not turn a profit? They must suck at budgeting! URFTBOUND4LIFE . I don’t think Ubi is not at fault here. They did make decisions that hurt their profits. When Wii U had the hype going they should have kept Rayman on schedule. Truth is they got cold feet and delayed a finished game for 6 months for no good reason.Didn’t help they put it up against GTA 5. Rayman Legends was the game most people wanted the Wii U for. When the delayed it people lost interest. Also they need to advertise their multiplats as multiplats. I’m sick of seeing 3rd party advertising for one platform when it’s available on the others. Then they complain about lacking sales… RennanNT Even nintendo delayed their games for months, and we all know how much they suffered because of that, so lets not say “for no good reason”. Sure, they could cut development/marketing on other games/console and increase sales on Wii U, and then probably go bankrupt because no way a just released console would have enough user base to break even the development of the games.. As for “ad as multiplats”, I bet its MS or Sony paying the ad costs. Of course any company would accept free (or low cost) ads. Akatosh “Good effort?” How about, “Better effort.” Skelterz Oh anyone who follow’s my posts on here and likes what i have to say about the gaming community Add me on wii u my names the same as it is on here Skelterz. Simon Stevens rabbids land was shite, assassins 3 wasn’t a worthy launch title, assassins 4…. meh, rayman took too long and you stabbed us in the back by making it multiplat, never played zombie u so can’t comment on that, now watchdogs is delayed, quit being so shit and you might do better, half ass it and no Wii U owner will touch your games cThreep Zombi U is an incredible game, since you were wondering. Simon Stevens Thanks, I’ll rent it out at some point 🙂 bit stuck into soul sacrifice at the moment though URFTBOUND4LIFE . I didn’t bother with Zombie U because I’m burned out on the whole Zombi apocalypse theme. Resident Evil,Left for Dead,Dead Island,Dead Rising, how many more do we need really? I don’t care about those type of games enough to fork over $60. Rayman would have sold way more if they released it on time rather than putting it up against GTA5. Tell you what Ubi, make more Rayman games and more games like Child of Light, a new Prince of Persia and Beyond Good and Evil sequel I’ll be all over that mo’fo! Simon Stevens I feel the same, I played the best zombie game (resident evil 4), nothing has compared or could since, all those ubi games are amazing though, I hope they make an exclusive like the prince we got in 2008, I bought a Wii U for these kind of games, if I wanted crap I’d buy a ps4 :p ZyroXZ2 I’ve been buying day-one third party games on the Wii U, but with Watch_Dogs, I had a suspicious feeling about the way it would be handled… I told myself that if the Wii U version was cancelled or delayed, or features were gimped/removed, I wouldn’t buy the game at all. It looks like I won’t be buying the game at all. I can’t support these kinds of decisions, even if they’re financially correct, because announcing a release, and then changing your mind about by removing features/delaying it/half-assing it is the worst way to gain a Nintendo fan. Jared Garcia To be fair, the other next gen consoles aren’t surpassing big number yet. SamusPrime Numbers don’t lie, but they don’t tell the entire story either. Below are estimates 100 million Wii 85 million PS3 85 million X360 43 million 3ds 7 million Vita 6 million WiiU 5 million PS4 3 million XOne That is a total of 334 million pieces of hardware. Of that the WiiU accounts for 1.8% of the total. What should the numbers be? If the above numbers were equal and WiiU was only 5%, I’d agree that’s bad. I don’t think the numbers are all that “shocking” as WiiU daily would like us to believe. NyallJodhan Considering your figures, it means for Q3 2012/13, 1 in 20 Wii U owners bought at least one Ubisoft game. At the same time, 1 in 7 Wii owners bought at least one game, 1 in 3 PS3 owners bought one, and 1 in 2.7 owners Xbox 360 owners bought one. That shows that the attach rate for Ubisoft on the Wii U is less that the other consoles. The question to ask, is why? Factors to consider: There are more Ubisoft titles on the other consoles than Wii U? Comparable titles on other console offer more content and features? Wii U owners really did take the Rayman thing to heart and shunned Ubisoft? (If this is true, then this is a sad, sad thing indeed.) I’m wondering if the sales numbers for Ubisoft would increase if the Wii U sales numbers grow, but that attach rate above is troubling. Sylux So nintendo overall accounts for about 20% of Total sales spread over Wii, WiiU, DS and 3DS the other 80% are shares over PC, PS3/4 xbox360/one (majority PS360) while WiiU has maybe 5% install base of PS3/360 and PS4. So yeah not many people have the platform, compared to the others platforms yet Nintendo manages to scoop up ~20% of ubisofts Total Sales, but Ubi decides to delay WiiU version (can’t blame them tbh). Maybe my logic is flawed, but 20% doesn’t sound to bad of which 5% is WiiU which has sold what? 4 million units worldwide? Dark-Link73 Comparing “total sales” across platforms is misleading. You can’t judge a platform against another by just net sales because is like comparing apples to oranges. There are so many variables behind these numbers, that unless the information is carefully studied, itemized, and even our across all platforms; any criticism and argument against any console (in this case Wii U) is a fallacy. So this 5% of Wii U vs. 37% of XBOX should be taken with a grain of salt until all the information on the sales is viewed. TheHaydenator At least it’s more than Vita John Andalora Ubisoft only released one game on Vita: Rayman Legends. Meanwhile, AC4, Just Dance, Splinter Cell and Rayman Legends. If you want to focus on a more fair competition, how about Wii U vs. PS4 or Xbone? 2% vs 12% vs 9%. GsDrover lol a handheld device. you nintendo fans are sad. tom I really hope this gamed bombs hard ! I bought 4 of their games full price, day one purchases and this is the thanks i get Ubi? They might as well cancel it. Sydney Ultrasyd I agree with you, but the problem is that too few people did the same as us. tom You are correct. However it still ticks me off! steveb944 I spent about $70-$80 on AC3 with the purchase of the game and DLC. What do I get in return AC4 with no freaking DLC opportunity. And you want me to support your software? Get real. I think I have more Ubi games than Nintendo games thus far, and all they’ve done for me is cut more and more. Marcus Larsson You did the right thing, but the problem is that the rest of us 5 million wii u-owners didnt. GregoryTheRainMaker What do you expect? You have the PS4, PS3, Vita, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. There is only the Wii U standing alone. It’s not like the 3DS is in the mix. This chart is kinda dumb. Carlos Webster this is sad. Nintendo now reminds me of Apple. Just as Apple was synonimous with businessmen during the days of the Apple II but then those people turned up their noses at the macintosh, every gamer liked the NES but saw the SNES as kiddie. Next just as how Nintendo is losing it on the console side of things but benefiting off of handhelds, the Macs now have a much smaller market compared to Windows PCs, but meanwhile Apple’s I pad and iPhone are thriving. GregoryTheRainMaker Ok done..lol. wiimenonowiiu I have ac3 and ac4 on wii u i really enjoy the game play on the wii u but i will also get it for the ps4 just for the trophies i support ubisoft on the wii u i also have zombie u great game as well if every one with a wii u got 2 ubisoft games this would not be an issue plus they need to sell more wii u MujuraNoKamen I think Ubi’s games would sell a lot better if Nintendo would actually advertise Wii U. Seeing Mario, Zelda and Assassin’s Creed & CoD on the same system (for £100 less than a PS4) would mean a lot to consumers but Nintendo doesn’t care apparently. Robinson Dantas Camila Oliveir PS4 and Xone are low too… FutureFox Yeah but still higher than Wii U which had a year head start. Robinson Dantas Camila Oliveir No, the Wii U started now. You’ll see… leo Maybe Nintendo should advertise the damn game running on wii u. Really its simple logic that Nintendo does not seem able to grasp. Nintenjoe82 Wii U only has about 4% of the market, even less if you include Wii as a competitor. It’s not doing great but with all the doom and gloom we hear, you’d think it was much worse for Ubi on Wii U. I can’t even believe their offerings on Wii U sold 1% Will (ishigum) The install base isn’t big enough yet. Xavier Lopez Chabelo THIS. And most Wii U owners aks for third party games and they dont buy them Evang3los Here’s the thing. I have a ps4. It’s not a bad system. But the only game worth playing on it is bf4. I don’t get how people can look at how bad the wii u is going when the xbone and ps4 don’t have any reasons to have them. Their sales aren’t incredible either. Ps3 and Xbox 360 are still fine systems and there is really no reason to jump to the new systems out there. I’m confident that ps4 and xbone will face the same fate. When their exclusives start rolling out we will see. I can see titanfall selling well, but only on 360. Third parties are going to have a tough time reaching profitable sales on ps4/xbone for years to come. So support for ps3 and Xbox will continue. This will be good because nintendo will be able to get multiplatform games once ps4 and xbone start to get stagnant. Third parties will abandon making games for ps4/xbone until there can be profit in it. Just an opinion. I admonish Ubisoft for at least giving nintendo a chance. Rayman was a mistake to delay. But for the most part I’m happy with Ubisoft. It’s EA that sucks. Nintendo has made bad moves but I think they might be on track to rectify them. Tropical freeze is a joke, but we will see what e3 brings. Brandon 3rd party devs will not stop supporting the xbox and ps4. Those are the main next gen consoles for them and the sales are doing fine. The two will definitely not have the same fate as wii u, because they wont have a game drought. The sales will not be weak on them either. Titanfall on xbox one will be a big console seller as for infamoues on ps4, plus 360 version of titanfall was delayed. In a few years or sooner the 3rd party devs will stop supporting the wii umaybe, and thats do to the new next gen engines wont be able to run, because of weak hardware and lessand slower ram. I like nintendo but only for there games not so much the consoles other then the ds and 3ds. Jonathan George Anaya I agree with you; Sony should give up on the PS4. Even their stockholders think that they’ll be bankrupt in 2 yrs Adam Howell What you say is interesting, though (as an non ps4 owner) it seems the PS4 has managed a really good selection of indie games that would have probably keep me entertained whilst I wait for third party games to arrive. We all knew the PS4 will be properly supported and that’s a big selling factor over the Wii U. Would say that Tropical Freeze isn’t a joke to anyone who likes platform games and has played Donkey Kong Country Returns. Adam Howell Actually, not as bad as I thought. Virus6 That shouldn’t be surprising when the console accounts for about that much of the market. Do people expect that a console with a 6 million base can sell more than 2 or 3 OTHER consoles nearing a 100 million base? Adam Howell Looking more carefully, the 2% of this quarter is as bad as I thought. It’s a new console so, although the install base is low, the owners should be keen to buy games on it. I hope Ubisoft don’t abandon it but the trends unlikely to improve much as sales get dwarfed by the PS4. I don’t know if there’s something Nintendo can do to encourage third parties. Maybe start funding ads for third party games. It seems a bit late now but they could still run a TV ad promoting the range of indie games on eshop. However, ads for all future third party retail games will be for games that play better on the ps4. Third parties aren’t going to support the gamepad properly, not because they can’t or lack resources, but because they won’t want to risk PS4 owners getting the idea that they have the nurfed version of the game so they might as well skip it. Ubisoft is the one third party that stuck by Nintendo the most. They had big games like AC3, AC4, Splintercell and Rayman. Plus ZombiU as an exclusive. Personally, I bought AC3, Splintercell and Rayman when they were either on special offer or reduced price on eshop so they’ve been a big part of my Wii U experience. My PC is in need of an upgrade so my Wii U’s been the focus of my gaming experience right now. If it had been a success it would have been all I’d need but it’s long past giving up on any chance of that. bobbybangin Let’s see…over 80 million PS3 consoles, over 80 million Xbox 360 consoles, and over 100 million Wii consoles in the world, compared to roughly 6 million Wii U’s. How is this surprising? FutureFox You’re forgetting that currently there are more Wii Us in the wild than Xbone or PS4s yet they essentially get special treatment. Many suspect that Ubi shuffled resources from Wii U development efforts and allocated them to other platforms which seems quite disingenuous. If true, one would think they’d sacrifice teams from platforms that are well established already in an effort to push next-gen further. That is to say make PS3 and 360 take a back seat to encourage users to get the game for next-gen. bobbybangin No, I’m actually well aware the the DS and Wii were the #1 and #2 sellers of last gen and that currently the 3DS and Wii U are the #1 and #2 sellers, so far, this gen. The latter part of your statement would make more sense if the PS3, Wii, and 360 didn’t account for 84% of their sales, with the PS4 and Xbone accounting for 0%. All publishers are in the “What have you done for me lately?” mode. They’re supporting the consoles that do more to help with online DLC sales and do more to protect their DRM. The same goes for any publisher who doesn’t release a game for the Wii U citing slow sales, but publishes a game for the PS4 and Xbone, even though they currently have less sales. starwars360 Well PS Vita faced same issues there. Wii U and PS Vita will continue up and down hill sales all times. I knew this. COME ON MAY 2014 RIGHT NOW!!!!! I WANT MARIO KART 8 SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!! Guest Watch Dogs WiiUisgaming This is how Watch Dogs must be bugart19 Hopefully the delay is only a few weeks and not several months. ETeach I guess I must be part of that 5%, given my recent Assassin’s Creed Binge. Also ZombieU, but eh… Shootdatrupee!… Ehhhhhhhh…. Vita did worse. Also, if they’re going for DS, why not also go for 3DS? I mean, that handheld is pretty popular now… Adam Fox Ubisoft accounts for 0% of my Wii U library……also, they should stop worrying so much about the Wii U and look at their even WORSE Vita sales….. Marcus Larsson I think they do? Marcus Larsson Well well i guess My wii u Will be a Nintendo only console Martijn Plasmans Bye bye 3rd party support! Rodger_Ramjet TW101 is brilliant new IP that just didn’t sell and I don’t understand why. It’s definately one of the best games I’ve ever played, on any format, easily!!! It’s very frustrating that WiiU owners say we want this, and we what that but never go and back up the hardware with software purchases. Potemkin That’s what happens when people only buy Nintendo games on a Nintendo platform. I said a while back and I repeat, if you want third party games, BUY THIRD PARTY GAMES. SUPPORT THE DEVELOPERS because they aren’t working just for the sake of it. Untrentide I was all for supporting the developers but I very much have not enjoyed what Ubisoft has brought to the table so far. I bought ZombiU and enjoyed the concept but hated the gameplay. They made the gamepad a necessity which really diminished the fun. Aside from that title, the others has been multi-platform titles that have all lacked compared to the other systems. I find it hard to support a company’s actions with this continuous alienation of the Wii U. Sidenote: Ubisoft hasn’t really made a title I have been overly excited for in a while. Their lack of fun new titles makes it very easy to avoid them 🙂 Zorpix Does it have anything to do with install base? Naaaaah wiimenonowiiu Quick every1 go buy 2 ubisoft games edge Sometimes you can blame the third party (which I know Nintendo fans like to do), and sometimes you can’t. Ubisoft has steadfastly supported Wii U, and aside from delaying Rayman Origins, I can’t think of anything that really turned people off. Wii U got ZombiU as an exclusive, Rayman Origins, Just Dance, and perfectly good ports of Assassin’s Creed III and IV, and Splinter Cell Blacklist. I didn’t read any reviews that said anything was off about those ports. So what gives? It’s the audience. Far too many Wii U owners are of the “I buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games and nothing else” variety. That’s not a good thing. It never was a good thing, and the Wii U era where that folly finally caught up to Nintendo. Untrentide I can agree with how ZombiU and Assassin’s Creed were handled with the Wii U but i disagree with Rayman ‘Legends’ and Splinter Cell. Rayman Legends was delayed for a universal console release when the title was near finished for Wii U. With this delay, it pushed the game release within a quarter that included the releases of GTA5 and a handful of more anticipated Wii U titles. My issue with Splinter Cell is that they dropped Co-op for the Wii U version only. This may just be my opinion, but i have always viewed the Wii U as the one system you are able to sit down and play games with friends in the same room. To have that dropped really made me lose interest. DragonSilths Last Ubisoft game on Wii U was….? AC4 I think? After the Watch Dogs Wii U Delay its no surprise. People are FINALLY starting to realize they aren’t much of a Wii U supporter. MujuraNoKamen But they’re still the biggest supporter outside of Nintendo and even then Nintendo aren’t doing their best. DragonSilths Its still sad. The biggest “Supporter” is a useless crap company who could have a shot at beating EA in worst company in North America. yienwae Ubisoft has to go where the money is. It is after all a business. I will wait for the Wii U version to come out even if it is later. The 3 games I purchased from Ubisoft were ZombiU (which is still by far my favorite) Splinter Cell and Just Dance 2013. All were decent games. Rayman I think it will be difficult to increase multiplaform games sales on wii u because wii u customers don’t want to buy them. There are three grups of nintendo users: 1. families focused on family games with kinds under 10-12 years old. They love wii sport, mario, kirby, donkey kong, zelda etc. All multiplatform games they need are now available on wii u (Lego, Rayman, Skylanders, Disney etc.) – so they have everything they need. They don’t need Assassins, CoD’s etc. 2. Heavy nientendo or platformers funs. They also don’t need Assassins and CoD’s and other multiplatforms. 3. Games heavy users which love both nintendo games and multiplatform games. They possess more the one console (e.g. PS4 and Wii U or Xbox360/PS3 and Wii U) or Wii U and gaming PC. They buy multiplatforms on Xbox 360/PS 3/PS 4/PC and nientendo games for Wii U. They also don’t need multiplatforms for Wii U. So, the conclusion is that noone needs multiplatforms on Wii U because customers which need both nintendo and multiplatforms usually possess more then one console. So developer who launch simple port of multiplatform game on Wii U probably will sell almost nothing. The only one chance to sell something is to make not easy port but enhanced version which creativly use gamepad/wii remote. Maybe Nintendo should support the above approach. maybe they should advertise more e.g. gamepad (off tv, asimetric multiplayer) and wii remote advantages in Call of Duty etc. Customers from the third group (heavy users) should see wii u version advantages. Without this thay will buy xbox/PS/PC versions of multiplatform games. Ben Dover Kuntz the wiiutanic is done!
