During a conference call today, Ubisoft has revealed that Splinter Cell: Blacklist and Rayman Legends have had lower than expected sales. The Wii U version of Splinter Cell was notably abysmal with only 10k sales, but the entire game sold poorly across the board, with only 300k copies sold. It’s not surprising to see the Wii U version of the game lacking in sales, as the local co-op of the game was completely removed for the Wii U version. Rayman Legends was also down in expectations, despite performing better on the Wii U than any other platform. It should be noted that the seven month delay the title experienced probably hampered Wii U sales even more, considering the delay moved the title into a very busy holiday season. What do you think of this news? local_offer Nintendo Rayman Legends splinter cell ubisoft wii u stars Further Reading Nintendo loses patent appeal, ordered to pay Nintendo was brainstorming about Switch when Ashley King Agreed. I feel like they should have stuck to their original intention and released in February when Wii U gamers were scrambling for a title that was promised to them at launch. Daniel Gonzalez At the same time though. Wii U wasn’t really selling too well, so I don’t blame them either. It does suck for Wii U owners to wait when the game went multiplatform. If I learned anything from the gaming industry, is that never fully trust a developers word in terms of game release dates. Their stories change often. Otherwise, fans are just setting themselves up for disappointment. Watch Dogs is a recent example. darkcreap Indeed. It is plain obvious that if they can tell the truth, they tell the truth. If they can’t, because it would not be politically correct, they just tell a different story to make an excuse. It is really ridiculous some times when you think “Come on, it is obvious you are doing this because of this reason”, and then they come up with the most absurd story: “You know, it might seem pretty obvious what you are saying, but actually the reason we are doing it is because I saw a pink unicorn beside my bed after getting up this morning”. That is what happens with badly-made excuses. It is like trying to fit the round piece into the square-shaped hole. Daniel Gonzalez Agreed. There are a lot of lame reasons for delays and any business decision. In Ubisoft’s case, they did what most companies would have done due to poor sales. Majora’s Mask they did say they delayed it cause of poor wii u sales though what they should have done is release it on feb for wii u and release for the other consoles when it was ready ubisoft rarely has amazing games and when they do they screw the marketing like rayman legends but from a company who ruined assasins creed with ac3 its something to expect from AND I MEAN SERIOUSLY A PIRATE ASSASIN NOW? NOBODY LIKED THE NAVAL IN AC3 AND THEY MAKE A GAME ABOUT IT? DEATH TO UBISOFT darkcreap Well, I personally liked the naval parts. It was fun too. By the way, I have your game in the pipeline. Go away, you evil mask!!! Majora’s Mask I can understand liking but obviously you havent 100% ac3 like me its a pain in the ass and completing naval is outrageous darkcreap I have AC3, but, as you say, not 100%. I like to complete games until I get bored of the sidequests. For AC3 it was 70-80% for me. I like the naval missions, but never went for the optional objectives unless I thought they were fun. I loved the combat mechanics a lot. Turning the other ships into a lot of splinters was such a pleasure… 🙂 Nevertheless, getting AC3 100% was hard. I mean, very glitchy. Some sidequests I completed were not recognised as such by the game. It was very surprising to me that they were glitchy, never had such an experience with Zelda games (even though they haver their own glitches). Majora’s Mask zelda ? ZELDA? THEY RE A BIZILLION TIMES MORE ANNOYING I AM TRYING TO COMPLETE WW HD NOW AND THE NINTENDO GALLERY IS BALLS HOPE I CAN FINISH IT BEFORE COD GHOSTS GETS ALL i have been a zelda fan for 15 years i only enjoyed completing mm Wayne Beck Despite low Wii U sales, Rayman was in heavy demand on Wii U. Wii U had a 3.5 million user install base made up of primarily Core Gamers, Rayman would have been the only thing they had to buy. Delaying a game that is in high demand while there is no competition is bad business no matter how you look at it. They probably would have moved closer to a Million units if they had released it in February, March or April, even if the game was only an 8, compared to the 10 it is now. Daniel Gonzalez Perhaps, but they did what they felt was right. It’s the past now, so hope that it doesn’t happen again. No company is perfect. Mercurio2054 you see! THAT’S THE POINT FOR ME; “… Wii U owners to wait when the game went multiplatform” … i don’t care if the game is multiplat. Nintedward Lots of people were about to Pick up a Wiiu back then just for this exclusive Rayman game…. It would of sold a good 300K+ on the Wiiu alone if they released it back when they said they would. They effed, PS3 and 360 gamers didn’t care about their gimped Wiiu game. Is 300K for SCBL just in NA or does it include EU aswell? Alienfish On top of that, they released it right before the holiday season of a new console launch so everyone has already spent all their money on a PS4/Xbone and all the AAA games that they pre-ordered. It’s the same reason I haven’t picked up The Wonderful 101 yet. Well, pretty much GTA V is to blame for all of it in my case. 😛 Nintedward This is true! They should of released Rayman before this hectic time of year. It was never going to stand a chance against the other Software and Hardware around the corner. Daniel Gonzalez No use dwelling on the past. You have plenty to look forward to this holiday. Nintedward I’m not dwelling, infact I genuinely don’t give a crap. It’s just the truth, that if Ubi released Rayman Exclusively for Wiiu in February it would of sold 100’s of thousands. Just like their other Wiiu exclusive ZombiU did. By making it multiplat abut 60% of the the people who originaly intended to buy probably just canceled and moved onto other titles. Poor decision is a poor decision. Daniel Gonzalez If you don’t give a crap, then why are you responding to the article? Call it technical, but that don’t make sense. Lol. Poor decision is a poor decision, but unfortunately, it is what it is. As for it selling 100’s of thousands, perhaps, we’ll never know. I prefer it being a multiplatform, though. So I was okay with that decision. I think releasing it in September with a busy holiday coming up and GTA V being in the way, hurt it’s chances at good sales. They should have released it around July or August. Nintedward Because you accused me of dwelling, lol. I was just putting a point forward that Ubisoft made a poor decision! Daniel Gonzalez Fair enough, but you do give a crap. Otherwise you wouldn’t be talking about the game. Yes, as was I doing the same, however, I don’t believe the reason for bad sales was due to just Nintendo fans canceling preorders. It was more so cause of competition of games like GTA V, WWHD and the like eating away sales. fireheartis1 Nintedward is right I know 5 people who decided not to get the Wii U because the game was coming to PS3. That really hurt the Wii U’s sales when the 3rd party developers started to get scared for no reason at all. Daniel Gonzalez I don’t think 5 people equal millions of potential buyers. Third parties aren’t running scared, at least most. They ran off because they don’t wanna lose money. I get what you’re saying, but we can’t always point the fingers at third parties and so called dumb consumers. In the end, Nintendo is responsible for their own console, not third parties. Only way things will change, is if their first party games raise sales this holiday. That will be the deciding factor in all this. Brawler I was very upset about the game going multiplatform. It was the reason for me not purchasing it. The sad thing is that I spent that money on Splinter Cell… Daniel Gonzalez The game is better off as multiplatform. Besides, it always has been, so I liked the decision that they changed that. Yeah, it does suck to lose out on an exclusive, but if you really wanted the game, then you’d still purchase it, am I right? Sounds to me you didn’t really want the game that badly. Brawler Well, with games like GTA V (which is amazing), the purchase of a 3DS XL, new laptop for school, and Splinter Cell I did not have the money for it. At the moment I am saving for the PS4 and have funds set aside for Batman. So that game won’t be in my library anytime soon. And I REALLY did want the game… Daniel Gonzalez Yeah, saving up for a PS4 as well. Batman Arkham Origins is a good choice, and look forward to it. I still say you should pick up Rayman Legends, though. If not now, perhaps at the lower price to where you can afford it. Brawler I will. I enjoyed the Challenge app on the Wii U. I’m a bit angry at myself for waiting so long, but so much things are happening in the gaming industry at the moment. Daniel Gonzalez True story. More games are on the horizon. Plus the fact that PS4 and Xbox One are around the corner. So there’s so many options this holiday. I do wanna get a PS4, but I might have to wait if bills start to pile up. I do plan to get a Wii U eventually, but as with the Wii, I didn’t pick one up until after well over 2 years. Colin Parks yeah rayman is stunning tbh, Batman and ghosts I will be getting on the wii u despite getting a ps4 and killzone on launch Bubba milk Untrue statement. I love rayman and would have purchased it in February. I didn’t because they broke my heart. I spend at least 100 a month on games. Easily. They lost that 60 of mine when they went multi plat. It was the difference between me paying full price or waiting for a used copy at half price in the discount bin. Which gives them zero dollars and rightfully so. It was supposed to be a launch title which would have helped the console as a whole. Wii u is struggling and a big factor in that struggle is that one simple decision to make rayman multi plat. Ubisoft lost every right to moan about the wii u or lack of sales at that moment. It’s not like they only delayed it. They delayed a LAUNCH title EXCLUSIVE!!!! To make it multi plat without any true evidence of it extra content for the wii u that wasn’t there already. That is very different from just a delayed game that is insulting. It’s a deal breaker. And I’m not a hardcore gamer. And I’m sure most rayman fans aren’t either. We aren’t talking about cod. It’s an occasional type of game. And with tons of games I haven’t beaten. Working 40 hours a week. And learning how to play 3 instruments the decision was made once it was delayed. The money was waiting in my pocket set back for rayman. I think the proof is in the sales. If its better off multi plat the sales would have shown that. And if they lost my money then I’m sure they lost many others that day. People are stubborn. Especially when lied to. Ubisoft underestimated that Daniel Gonzalez All companies lie my friend. They made their decision based on the poor sales of the Wii U. I would have to if i was in charge of Ubisoft, and even I’m a fan of Nintendo. I see a lot of people saying it would have sold better if it released on March, though that’s what we call blind speculation. We like to hope that it did, but none of us know how well it would have sold, especially since the Wii U has been struggling for nearly a year. Not to offended you, but it might be better to break your post into paragraphs. People are less likely to read it when it’s bunched together in one paragraph. 😛 Nintedward Same here. I’ll buy Rayman…. once I’ve finished all the games that didn’t get delayed and made multiplat first 😛 I’ll get Rayman or halfprice. Magnus Eriksson Yeah, I was going to buy it in march, but when it was delayed I kind of lost interest. Also I got tired from the Rayman APP on WiiU. Played it everyday during that time, and kind of got my Rayman dose. But I dont blame Ubi. They experienced the bad sales on ZombiU, and had to do what they did. Ninty should have released two bundles at launch. One with Nintendo Land and one with Zombi U. readypembroke they did make a Nintendo Land bundle, its the Deluxe Wii U bundle and they do have a Zombi U bundle also, Andrew W Garttmeyer Absolutely, I have Zelda to keep me busy right up until the new Mario 3D world (or whatever it’s called), releases. Plus, I am a bit pissed with how they handled the whole thing. Pass! CMB Who flagged Aarons post! ZeldaFan86 That’s what I would like to know. o.o tom It looks like Ubisoft is exaggerating the numbers a bit. According to this source is has sold at least 20k( Still bad figures) not counting digital downloads. http://www.vgchartz.com/game/71982/tom-clancys-splinter-cell-blacklist/ Also something else i realized was the Wii U version was made in Shanghai China. Which should be WAY cheaper production cost. My 2 cents. Thanks Daniel Gonzalez Any country that can’t do their own manufacturing is a cheapskate to me. tom WIth that being said i am really curious of the production cost of the Wii U version. Nintenjoe82 Damn those cheapskates in Greenland, Nepal and the Vatican City! Daniel Gonzalez I know right? They should be tar and feathered! Bubba milk Hahahahaha not offended at all my friend. Actually to be honest and I’m sure it’s pretty clear I don’t leave many posts. I don’t do this a lot although I do read through comments all the time. I come from the tail end of a generation that didn’t do all this instead we just played sonic and super Mario at our grandmothers house. And I actually need to apologize.Like i said I don’t post but I do read comments and seriously u seem like a very open minded individual and stay very objective. Which from the reading I do u don’t see that a lot. So not offended at all actually I apologize for how I came off. Of all the people I should have replied to it shouldn’t have been you. No excuses. And way to go on the burn about my grammar. Next time u should attack more than just my intelligence. Maybe my weight or how I don’t last more than a minute in bed? hahahahahaha. But no seriously sorry dude u seem pretty cool ive read alot of your comments so my bad man. It’s easy to talk crap on the web but not as easy to be a real human being and admit defeat. U win good sir. And I’ll be looking forward to reading all your posts in the future and not responding out of fear due to my poor writing insecurities hahahahahaha. But I’m always watching bud and next time u are attacked by a bunch of hateful 12 year olds I will come to the rescue. Man this message just proved I suck at this haha in short again I’m sorry best of luck to u and I appreciate your comments on this site they are refreshing YayGs The same will probably be true for Deus Ex. Even though I would expect sales of that game to still be quite lower than this one. But amazing that it did the best on Wii U! Nintenjoe82 I just pre-ordered Deus Ex for £24 on Amazon. I think everyone should Adecentboy777 My words exactly! GuardiansFan i was going to pick up a copy at launch…now? Its too close to other major releases and UBI has pissed me off…i’ll buy it used months from now for a fraction of the price fireheartis1 This is true I canceled my pre-order on the game and will be picking it up much later. I was frustrated and decided to heck with it I’ll put my money elsewhere. I did pick up Splinter Cell because it looked very fun. Although I suck at it really badly lol, but yah if Ubisoft kept their promise I wouldn’t be waiting to pick up Reyman Legends until Christmas time. HotInEER I agree, the delay made a lot of people upset. THe worst thing you can do is piss off your customer base. Ubisoft did this. However, I believe it will pick up in a month or 2 because it really is a great game. Ducked Poor sales for both games isn’t very surprising. The Rayman Legends delay hurt the Wii U version for fans. But from what I saw it looked like the Wii U version did better then the 360 and PS3 version. As for Blacklist that’s not surprising either, 3rd party games for Wii U is still a growing progress. Plus ubisoft waited a bit late to confirm the game. The more people that own a Wii U, the more games that will sell. We’re see how this holiday goes. Ashley King I think poor sales for Splinter Cell across all platforms indicate that fans weren’t happy with the release. The loss of Michael Ironside’s voice may have been bigger than Ubisoft realizes. Blacklist did focus more on stealth than Conviction, but fans of the series probably weren’t a fan of the continued mark and execute style of gameplay. Ducked I think the Splinter Cell series has just died off, I honestly think Double Agent and Conviction ruined the series since it went against the stealth it use to have. Similar to the Resident Evil series, the series has really died off since it went against it’s Horror Survival it was known for. Resident Evil Revelations and Splinter Cell Blacklist both did the same thing, went back to it’s original orgins. Unfortunately both games did poor in sales. brian0057 I agree with Conviction being the point where the series jumped the shark but Double Agent, at least for me, was the last true Splinter Cell. I personally prefer the Gamecube version over the PS3 version. I really liked the moral choices in the game and it was heavily focused on stealth (probably the most of the entire series). Ducked I wasn’t a fan of the gameplay for Double Agent Jacob D. Taylor Binho. Splinter Cell has just taken its course. This is an opportunity to shoe jist hoe great Nintendo is at maintaining a series. A streak of bad games just wears at people. Rick Valenta Call sign: Jester. Michael Ironside is a legend… audi lover Played it through with out using that mark execute crap makes a good game far to easy Daniel Gonzalez Yep. Reason why sales are so low, at least that’s the biggest reason to me. Ducked If Rayman Legends, The Wonderful 101, and Pikmin 3 had released during the drought, then the Wii U more than likely wouldn’t be in the drought that it was. And we would have heard less of these gloom and doom articles. Daniel Gonzalez Pretty much. If the games needed more time and polish, then I think Nintendo should have pushed back the Wii U release date. That way you have a good supply of games to start you off. Being first in the market isn’t always a good thing. Ducked I do agree with that, a headstart could have really helped them, but if they were not ready, then they should have just waited until maybe October or November of this year. If the Wii U had released in September, you’d have NSMBU, Pikmin 3, W101, Rayman Legends, and Nintendo Land. With WWHD, and Super Mario 3D World not far away. Super Mario That is a killer lineup! Daniel Gonzalez Yep. That is a good lineup. Of course I’d like to see some third party in the mix, too. jrob23 Like…ZombiU, The Wonderful 101, Sonic Lost World, Rayman Legends, AC4, Batman Arkham Origins, SCBL, Call of Duty Ghosts, Lego Marvel Superheroes, Deus Ex? Is that enough 3rd party for you for the rest of the year? I swear you have nothing positive to say about the Wii U. D.M.T He has nothing positive to say because he believes everything he reads on gaming sites. Plus he doesn’t own a Wii U so he doesn’t know how great the Wii U is. Revolution5268 He is a clown that’s what he is. Talk about adults being babies. Daniel Gonzalez Talk about fanboys doing the exact thing they accuse of. You amuse me. Keep it up. Magnus Eriksson Why not contributing instead of namecalling? What you do now is a good example of childish behaviour. Daniel Gonzalez True story. Proves my point on people are so quick to judge any one person cause they don’t like what they like. Indeed childish. Daniel Gonzalez Why would I own something that doesn’t have the games I like, or third party games I can’t get on a PS3? Lol. Unless it has more than just Smash Bros and Mario Kart 8 to sway me, I see no reason yet. Also, since you apparently are upset about yesterday as it seems due to you trying to be a bully now, I have every intention of buying one. As for believing what I read, I think you believe in too much of what you say. You sure have an ego my friend. Do you believe everything Nintendo tells you? Hmmm….yeah, I thought as much. You just don’t like the fact that I’m here not praising it the way you want me to. Fact is fact there. Besides, I did just gave it positives, and it is a fact that third parties aren’t there yet. I’m gonna take it you don’t like anyones opinion that doesn’t revolve around yours. Talk about someone who doesn’t get stressed or upset. You exposed yourself there. I won’t play your silly game though, so I’ll leave you to your obvious ignorance and the cronies that you follow. Just remember, two rights don’t make a wrong. Try growing up an being civil, unless that’s hard for you to do, or you can write up a counter argument that most likely doesn’t make sense, but I digress. Can’t give you too much credit. Bye bye now Captain Charisma. 😛 Daniel Gonzalez I just did. Lol. I gave first parties positive feedback. Or perhaps you’re just looking to cause another pointless argument for no reason? Pick your battles. I just think you look for trouble. Unless you have something to say about the article in question, then keep your peace. Edit:Most of the games you mention third party wise I’m getting for PS3. Which means Wii U doesn’t have many third party exclusives. That should clear things for you, but I know, grrrr that’s not positive. I get the point, and I don’t intend to change it right now. GameChanger The only thing that would have been different about that lineup is Nintendo would not release 2 Mario platformers so close together…we wouldn’t see either NSMBU or SM3DW for about another year. Ducked New Super Mario Bros Wii came out pretty close to Super Mario Galaxy 2 GameChanger True…I should have said “at launch”…that’s actually what I meant to say. Ducked Oh Magnus Eriksson If they did they could have put more juice into the console too. 299$ hardware is more today than a year ago. That way they could have closed in on PS4 and XB1, making that part less relevant for those who cares about such things. Ducked Agreed! Prince_AKR The thing is ~ N didn’t expect to have had the drought they did. Rayman was supposed to be a launch title, but it was delayed twice. Pikmin 3 and W101 were also supposed to be released, but once again, they needed to be tweaked, so they got pushed back. N was probably thinking that 3rd-parties would take advantage of that period to step in and keep the console moving while they wrap up the business on their end, yet all the Wii U got was announcements upon more announcements of: “We will not be bringing ‘title XYZ’ to Wii U”. EA looked really set to shower the Wii U, yet they went A-wall on N last minute. Daniel Gonzalez Third parties will only take advantage if the advantage is there. Also a good reason is that Nintendo never catered too well to third parties. That can change depending on how well the sales turn out this holiday. I think that’s what most of them are waiting on. Appreciate the mature response. Joey i am still buying Raymand Legends soon, next month i hope. Wren Justin Umlauf The Wii U version of Splinter Cell does have Online Co Op, I just havnt gotten to try it out yet. The local Co Op was removed tho Lil J Moore Ok SC BL I can understand not doing well, but Rayman Legends took a huge fall off because of the delay and trying to complete with other Sept releases (GTA V). Ubisoft you guys only did this to yourself and have only yourselfs to blame. Sydney Ultrasyd I’m sure that Rayman would have done much better if released earlier. Both rayman and Wii U would have selled better. Anyway, it’s a great game, *personally* I don’t care about the dealy, i’m having fun now. But still, what a mess … Rick Valenta I didn’t buy legends because I still haven’t beaten Origins on the Wii (which is awesome.) I didn’t buy splinter cell because it looks boring. I’m saving my money for Watchdogs and Dues Ex… and MK and SMB3DW… Yoboyjohn The fact that it sold bad on all platforms means that ubisoft better not target and blame just the wii u.your marketing sucked for the games any you lost our loyalty for ramen legends..don’t blame us John Andalora Splinter Cell: Blacklist they can blame Wii U with for the low sales on its console. Even if they had poor sales of it, less than 5% of those sales came from the Wii U version. As for Rayman Legends, while it is true that the Wii U version sold more, it only made 40% of all sales. People keep saying “Oh, well if it was released earlier more people would’ve bought it,” but that’s nothing more than blind speculation based on their own hopes. As for the “Oh, well it came out at a bad time” claim, the sales of Rayman Legends are in fact typical of the Wii U, with most Wii U games not even making it to half a million. Lots of other games came out at supposedly better times, but they didn’t have great sales at all. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate came out in March for Wii U (in US), and it only made .43 million sales. These sales aren’t good, and Wii U sales for games aren’t good. Jon Splinter cell they nerfed it when they didn’t include offline co-op. When I first saw it, I was excited to try it with my friend and roommate but… now I couldn’t do that. I didn’t buy it in the end because of this and I probably won’t buy it. I am sure I am not the only one. As for Rayman, I would have gotten it already if it was released when they had it planned. Instead, they delayed it to a time where the Wii U games have picked up and now I would rather the newer games coming so eventually I’ll get it…unless I totally forget about it/ other games I am looking forward to don’t come out too close. So yes, their decisions did have a negative affect. John Andalora Definitely not saying that their choices didn’t have some impact, but I think that people tend to put too much emphasis on Ubisoft without sufficient reason. To be honest, I got SC:B on Xbox 360 because it was free. Wasn’t great, not even the multiplayer. (Note to self, if I ever make a multiplayer game, NEVER have a cinematic of the person jumping down on an opponent. It forces enemies into the spot and freezes them in place. SO not worth it). As for Rayman, I thought Early September worked (Though it would’ve been better early February) I mean, the rest of the list was Wonderful 101, WWHD (which you know my feelings about), Scribblenauts DC, and Hot Wheels. On that list, few people knew about any of the other ones, so honestly I really don’t know what happened there. I think it didn’t sell well on the other consoles because Grand Theft Auto V was coming out, something that people were definitely scrimping and saving for (and one that everyone KNEW about). zhenyaivan So what? Ubisoft can blame Sony and Microsoft for Legends not selling well. Daniel Gonzalez Why are they to blame? They didn’t develop it. Mind explaining what you mean? zhenyaivan You can’t blame Sony or Microsoft because Legends sold bad, but you can blame Nintendo for splinter cell selling bad? It’s kinda biased. Daniel Gonzalez There was no biased comment. Where did you get that from? Lol. I made a point clear that the poor sales on all platforms are because of competition of games like GTA V and WWHD(check other comments for reference). I don’t see how you came to that conclusion. The fact that you’re blaming them without even giving a clear reason as to why is being biased my friend. If you aren’t, then perhaps you should explain what you meant by it instead of pointing fingers. zhenyaivan ….what? Daniel Gonzalez Yes? Reason why Sony and Microsoft aren’t mentioned is because the ps3 and 360 aren’t struggling like the Wii U. Plus the fact that the Wii U needs the sales more than those two anyway. Besides, I believe the site is called WiiUDaily for a reason. Plus, no one was talking about Splinter Cell nor blamed it’s poor sales on the Wii U to begin with, you brought that one up my friend. John already gave you good points to why the Wii U version of the game(Rayman Legends)sold poorly. I happen to agree with it. John Andalora I’d probably blame minimal adverts and being overshadowed by GTAV before blaming Sony and Microsoft. However, the Wii U didn’t really have that kind of powerful release coming that overshadowed most other games that month. Biggest thing September was Wind Waker HD apparently. The rest (Scribblenauts, Wonderful 101 and Hot Wheels) were nearly twice as unknown as Rayman Legends. Daniel Gonzalez Very true, John. Know one knows how sales would have been if Rayman Legends was released in March. I do agree, sales for most Wii U games are less than a million, with a significant amount not even hitting the 500k mark. Only games that have hit 1 million so far is Nintendo Land(which was basically bundled) at 2.42 and NSMBU at 2.13. WWHD is looking to be the next one, but I’ll reserve my judgment on that one later. John Andalora I really hope WWHD doesn’t hit a million. I don’t want Nintendo getting it into their head that more remakes is a good idea. Daniel Gonzalez Well that’s a tough one. Of course I want Nintendo games to sell better, but you also make a good point. That is a possibility and remakes aren’t going to really make sales better anyway. Sales do slow down after the hype wears off, so I guess we’ll see how it turns out. If I was a Zelda fan, I’d prefer a whole new entry into the series. John Andalora Yeah. It’s a shame we won’t be hearing anymore about that til E3 2014. Quicksilver88 Actually MHU doing over 400K sales and Lego did similiar is not bad on a new platform…same with ZombieU….WiiU only had less than 4mil units……I am really worried about this whole next gen as the cost to make top titles is so high and it it going to take years for the installed bases to reach 10s of millions of units. I mean Tomb Raider was GOTY material IMO and on ps360 and Pc which is installed base of 200mil units sold only 3mil copies…..similiar numbers for games like Hitman and Max Payne…meanwhile little crap like cut the rope is selling unreal numbers…AAA gaming will be doomed with numbers like this. John Andalora …. 0.43 million and 400K are the same numbers…. ….. So you use 1 game to try and prove me wrong… That one game being Tomb Raider, a game which people had concerns with ideas of rape from E3? Here’s some other games that did better: GTAV: 16 million and going strong. Last of Us: 3.31 million Bioshock Infinite: 2.61 million Madden NFL 25: 1.76 million Also, Hitman: Absolution has 3.38 million sales, and Max Payne sold 3.04 Million. really good sales, believe it or not. Now, sales at 3 million are great for games because they get their money back. 500K means they lost money. As for Cut The Rope, a $.99 game is going to sell more than a $60 game. It’s the difference between how many people buy a candy bar and how many people buy their own tootsie roll maker. Quicksilver88 MY point is 3.31 mil for last of us against a 70mil user base is really not that great…….or in the case of Bioshock or Madden doing 1.75 or 2mil on multiple platforms being PS3/X360/PC is not that great when you are looking at 200mil users. This is why Square’s CEO was fired despite some of those games selling over 3mil…..no when we have attach rates in the 5% or less range how many games are they going to be selling on XB1 or PS4? which won’t have user bases in the 10s of millions for several years, meanwhile the cost of game development will be going up and not down and the price of games is staying fixed at $60 for new releases…..I have seen plenty stating that analysts and corporate CEOs are worried. My point on WiiU is a game selling 300-400K is actually pretty good because that means it has reached at attach rate of 10%….its not all about sales figure, how many platforms its put out on, how many territories, are all factors in the development cost vs sales profitability. In the case of Rayman it would have likely been more profitable to put it out just on WiiU earlier this year and hope for 250K sales as a system exclusive than put the development and publishing money into bringing it to four platforms and selling 300K units. With Splinter Cell they should have just skipped WiiU all together as selling that few units is a total disaster and the money could have been better used to promote and distribute it better for ps360/pc platforms. I as much as anyone want to see us continue to get good and varied games on all systems but if these publishers don’t start making better business decisions we are going to see a gaming apocalypse and have nothing but casual and indie titles to play and not just on WiiU….look at how many developers have evaporated and how companies that made good games like THQ, Altus, Sega and others have struggled or gone away. John Andalora Here’s a 101 on game manufacturing: With the cost of development for games going up and up, 500 k sales is horrible. Doesn’t matter the percentage of the user base buying it because they didn’t sell enough to balance out thr cost of making it. It’s not like Xbox or Playstation make people print out 70 million copies each and only sell so many. The video games don’t need to sell a copy to everyone, and just because a percentage of people don’t buy it doesn’t mean it’s bad. They need to sell a certain amount of games, and 3 million makes a hell of a lot more money than 500K. Percentage of user base purchasing the game doesn’t matter: the number sold does. And, here’s a little edit on your final statement: THQ? Good games? The two don’t mix. Honestly, the only good game that their name was associated to was Destroy All Humans, and it was their extremely bad business practices that destroyed them. Atlus isn’t struggling. In ANY way. Their parent company (the one that owned them) went bankrupt. They’re now owned by Sega. And Sega… I really don’t like most of their games, and Aliens wasn’t something they should’ve produced. Frankly, most of the dying or dead companies have bad practices or just don’t have much going for them. SE keeps makong FF games, and I got bored rather quickly. It’s a shame to see a company go, but it happens. Quicksilver88 You keep missing my point which is the attach rate matters when talking next generation….total numbers matter but when games are only selling at 3% of the base what is that going to mean when the basis of xb1 and ps4 are considerably smaller for the next few years? I was amazed when Square themselves said TR was not a commercial success…..it was an awesome game and you would think over 3mil wouod be satisfactory, when I finished the game and you see the number of teams and people involved in its production it must have cost a pretty penny to make….Squeenix has for sure done to much FF13 games but TR was the best one ever and I worry we won’t see another any time soon. Daniel Gonzalez If you’re talking about mobile games, while there is a market for them, I doubt they’ll be taking over consoles, let alone handhelds. I’d take a 3DS over an android or any mobile device. True, you can use a controller with them, but I think people would rather play on a big screen TV. Plus 99 cent game over a $50-$60 dollar isn’t going to make the same amount of money. Quicksilver88 Oh I fully agree with you in that I find most tablet/phone gaming to be utter garbage……but a lot of casual gamers have been created or sucked in by mobile gaming when they used to be on GBA or DS….the danger is the model in mobile gaming is working so well….and some of these games and franchises (like Angry Birds) have made serious money….plus they cost peanuts to develop compared to a AAA console title which in some cases are approaching movie budgets. The problem isn’t for games like GTA or Zelda it is for things like Splinter Cell and Tomb Raider because publishers are going to be less willing to front the huge development $$$ it takes to build these games unless they are wildly popular franchises….this will lead to less AAA and less new and innovative stuff and more COD 243, and AC 144, and GTA 88….and less new projects or even reboots of franchises that are have lost some relevance…..I mean Nintendo was cautious about making the new Fire Emblem on 3DS because of weak past sales and that game is one of the best handheld games and SRPG ever…..fortunately it has done well enough (about 1mil) that they are willing to keep the franchise alive. Jon you just made me hungry and now I want Ramen…. ItzameyaToad Wii U owners had to wait an additional 7 months for what? Oh yeah that’s right the game to be released right when games like GTA 5, Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD, Disney Infinity, Wonderful 101 and New Super Luigi U where launching. Ubisoft needs a need group that knows when to launch games and when not to because they really messed up on the release date on a game that could have sold much better back in Feb. on Wii U so this is no suprise to me. Hopefully they have the balls to own up to there mistake and in the future go with the console/group that will actually give two shits about your damn product(Wii U owners have bought Rayman Legends more than any other console). Not sure really why Splinter Cell didn’t do that well. All in all Ubisoft needs to own up to there mistakes if they want to continue to be a successful publisher in the future. BIG Franky I love Ubisoft, they make great games (IMHO, at least) and they are by far the best 3rd party supporter for Nintendo…. so I will always support them. I’ve already purchased Rayman, ZombiU, and Just Dance 2014…and I will purchase more titles, like AC IV and SC:BL, eventually…… HOWEVER….. delaying Rayman Legends on the Wii U was a collossal screw-up…. from a business standpoint, it just made ZERO sense…. even if they had decided that not enough Wii-U’s were sold and that they wanted to port Rayman to the other platforms, that woudl be fine, but simply make Rayman a timed exclusive…. they would’ve sold a boatload more copies and it would’ve improved the Wii U instal-base dramatically. the only thing I could surmise from that decision is that something else must’ve been going on behind the scenes with Rayman back in February when it was supposed to launch…. I am guessing that it must not have been ready yet or something. there MUST have been another reason to not put it out on the shelves as witholding from doing so just didnt make sense from a business standpoint. Jacob D. Taylor Well… k from a business sense it made perfect sense. Not incredibly intelligent because remember business ha become more and more number dominated and less psychology oriented. At least in this industry, which doesnt make any sense. They felt a larger audience eould go for it. Factors like a dumbed down version fir 360 fans wouldnt fly and stepping on nintendo fans crushed expectations ItzameyaToad It really didn’t make any sense haha seeing as they could have made it a timed exclusive but choose to wait 7 months only to make a portion of potential buyers not buy it as well as launching it right at the time GTA 5, Pikmin 3, New Super Luigi U, Wind Waker HD,Disney Infinity, Wonderful 101 to name a few where launching. It was a stupid business decision and they should own up to it. Ubisoft had 7 months to sell Rayman Legends on a console that needed games, had fans waiting to buy it and would have had little to no competition. They made a mistake. If it had done badly on Wii U they could have ported it to PS3 and PC(forget Microsoft with there stupid polocies), but no they wished to shoot themselves in the foot. Well here’s hoping they learn there lesson from this. BIG Franky Yeah… thats why I’m inlined to think that there was some other reason it (Rayman) was delayed…. it just doesnt make sense to delay the Wii U launch for any other reason…. as you point out, it certainly doesn’t make sense from a business standpoint…. I am guessing that the game simply wasn’t ready in February and they severely bungled the delay. Jacob D. Taylor Haha, well said! And it’s true… the timing was it more than anything to be honest. Like you said it could havereleased with no competition, or all of it! Ryan Williamson I reallt liked black list. Unfortunately ubisoft keeps screwing the pooch wuth the patch and you cant even play online and get a match Marcel Kleine This is sooo true. I can’t find anyone online MujuraNoKamen Shame, they’re great games but with Rayman then Ubi only have themselves to blame – we all said it wouldn’t be able to compete with GTA, PS4, etc and that’s exactly what has happened. I’m surprised Blacklist did so badly it’s really good – BUY IT IF YOU’RE ON THE FENCE. I’ll say it again, us Wii U owners need to support AAA 3rd party games when they come or you can forget about them after 2014. I understand the outrage when Wii U is deprived of DLC, game modes and such, in fact I’m in full agreement but WD looks like a great port, it’s being optimised for Wii U rather than being an Xbox port and will make good use of the Gamepad so keep your eyes on that one. ZeldaFanzzzz Lesson learned right ubisoft??? Delayed a game that was intentionally exclusive for the wii u. But nooooo, we have to release the game for ps3, Xbox 360, pc too. Of course the sale numbers are low for the wii u. Fred I really wish Rayman was selling better as it’s an incredible game and I’d like to see more like it. Justagamer It’s ok i got it used for 15..was not giving ubi my money on this one Fred Do we know how many copies Rayman sold? I’m hoping it was just a small disappointment I love the game. tom Here is the sale figures for Rayman Legends Wii U http://www.vgchartz.com/game/70792/rayman-legends/ Fred WOW! are they really that low? That’s terrible. Of coarse Ubisoft would consider that to be bad. I figured with all the Wii U owners that complain about a lack of Wii U games that a great game like that would would sell pretty well. tom Yep about 90 k Fred In that case, I don’t expect to see any more Ubisoft games on Wii U. If I owned Ubisoft I’d say “We made 2 quality games here that are completely different and appeal to 2 very different types of players and neither sold (less than 100k just doesn’t count as selling) so we’re taking a different path.” Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want them to ditch the Wii U as a Wii U owner that loves Rayman Legends I want more games like that, but I wouldn’t blame Ubisoft for cutting their losses and taking a different path from here on out. Zuxs13 What is so frustrating is all you ever hear is Wii U needs games, Wii U just needs games. Yet when it has them, no one buys the damn things! I agree with Ashley the delay to Rayman hurt it,If this game came out in the launch window so many more Wii U owners would have been all over it, they could have added all the extra stuff through DLC and made even more money for it. In the case of Splinter Cell, im tired of games now requiring some form of Online anything in order for it to be successful. It was cheaper than the other versions and Looked fantastic and played great. this goes to show you 3rd party games no longer sell on Nintendo consoles. Which shows why Nintendo consoles have a lower attachment rate the MS. It’s sad Nintendo fans are so narrow. Guest Nintendo fans have been burned many times over the years and are tired of 3rd party BS excuses for not giving an equal product. They expect more from games due to Nintendo bringing out such high quality games and consistant experiences. I see Indie devs getting much more sales on Wii U than third party companies because many are like Nintendo, they want to bring a quality game to there fans and want everyone to experience there game the way they invision it. Unlike most third parties that only care about profits and won’t treat there consumers equally. I see Indies taking the place of third parties on Nintendo’s systems and I say don’t let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya to third party publishers! Zuxs13 Yeah i agree with that, but Rayman wasn’t a lazy effort. So we should applaud when 3rd party make an effort not just ban them for every effort. Justagamer Well they had it coming. That is why they should have kept there word the first time Zuxs13 Why because they delayed a game? they gave us a free game to play for months while we waited and added a ton of content that would have just been paid DLC if they released it in February. Sure it was a dumb move on their part to delay and not release it as a timed exclusive, but they did everything they could to polish the game and add more to it. Justagamer I agree to a point but they should have never made a promise that they could not keep and for that they paid dearly Zuxs13 well by that reasoning every game developer should pay and nothing should be bought. BIG Franky agree 100%! its ridiculous…. the delay of Rayman was OBVIOUSLY tied to some sort of production issue….. that is NOT uncommon… .especially in launch periods! sure the ysaid one thign and did another…. but at the end of the day, all developrs do this! do we boycott them all?!?!? nope… look, even Nintendo is delaying DKC by 4 months and it is a year after launch. people need to lighten up and support the 3rd parties that support Nintendo….. especially a company like Ubisoft which has been one of Nintendo’s best partners for YEARS. they make one mistake and now people are boycotting them? its so foolish… i read those comments and i get embarrassed for the people that write them. its idiotic. then those same people will complain that companies bring games to other platforms but ignore Nintendo…. folks, companies release games on platforms where people actually buy them! Quicksilver88 It had nothing to do with production issues….the game was done and the dev team was pissed it was delayed. It was delayed because M$ policy of not allowing multiplats on x360 unless its a simultaneous release…..simple as that. Justagamer Maybe Justagamer True but it did not save it im a nintendo fan myself but they should have not have made that promise MujuraNoKamen You know what… I’m in full agreement, I’ve said many times before and I know I sound like a broken record now but us Wii U owners need to support the games we’re given. I count myself (and the rest of us) lucky to be getting the next CoD, Batman and AC games given how disappointing they did the first time round. Same goes for Splinter Cell, Watch Dogs and Deus Ex. When rumours of these games coming first surfaced everyone here was begging for the support and when they arrive (even in game droughts) everyone says “nah, I’ll get it later, I’m waiting another 3 months for that Mario game we all bitched about when it was revealed” – yes I was guilty of complaining at 3D world and DK at E3 too but I’ve seen the light 🙂 Anyway, I think people are right to complain about issues such as the Rayman delay and the lack of features in Batman, Injustice etc but when AC3 and BO2 came out they were good ports, it was only after the sales bombed that Activision canned the DLC – I still hate them for it but when people say “give us the full product and I’ll buy it” then why didn’t you buy games like this the first time round? especially since we were all so happy to see CoD come to Wii U day one. It looks like AC4 and WD are going to be good ports too, coming to Wii U day one so I hope you’ll repay Ubi for its effort. Sorry for repeating the same shit all over again guys but it has to be said, do you want Wii U to be solid platform or just a Mario machine? I can see it now, all these games bomb on Wii U then next year the next AC, CoD etc etc won’t come to Wii U and you’ll be saying “oh no!” “Why” “guess I’ll have to get a PS4 then” “start a petition” and all the rest of it. This has happened before and hasn’t helped the reputation of Nintendo consoles, I don’t like the baby image one bit and it’ll only damage our chances of getting games like Splinter Cell, CoD, MGS and more in the future. if you want Wii U to get support then buy games when we get them, you’ll miss them when they’re gone. Zuxs13 looking into it more. Ubisoft delayed the game due to “poor sales projections” (http://www.vg247.com/2013/06/19/rayman-legends-wii-u-was-delayed-over-poor-sales-projections/ ) and yet the “studio put it down to the fact that consumers are reluctant to invest in new titles with the next generation of consoles just around the corner.” (http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/10/16/splinter-cell-and-rayman-legends-missed-sales-targets ) which is funny that they are this poor at figuring out sales 101. Wishsong214 I’m curious as to how Rayman Legends did in the alternate universe where it came out on time as a Wii U exclusive…on the one hand, I can’t see it being too big a system seller. A bit weird-looking for people who don’t follow gaming websites and such, and I can’t see a 2D platformer necessarily moving systems, at least not for people who didn’t already have one. On the other hand, though, it would have come out in a less cluttered time space. I’ll admit that I’m one of the people who hasn’t bought it, because I simply don’t have the money and time, nor did I at its release. However, way earlier in the year, with nothing else coming out…I would have gladly put money down. Διονύς84 Plus, it’s gonna get killed by the upcoming Mario, Sonic and Donkey Kong games, pretty much the undisputed kings of platformers tom Splinter Cell Wii U still has online bugs! Rayman Legends has sold best on the Wii U thus far and will sell good in time. Also Rayman and Wonderful 101 did a suicide mission to release both of these games right before GTAV!! Finally Ubisoft better not gripe. I bought Splinter Cell and Rayman day 1, full retail! iamserious Ubisoft kind of had this coming. They should have stuck with the original release date on Wii U as they had nothing to change on it. Also, whenever a company guts a game for a specific console, they should realize what that means to the user-base of that console. CMB Ubisoft deserved this. Delaying rayman and gimping splinter cell segaXnintendo stop releasing crappy platformers of rayman, bring back 3d and maybe this wouldnt happen. Justagamer Well Ubi…You had it coming and now you reaped what you sowed.I quess you should have kept your word back in Feb now the game failed in sales…Just saying Chronic Gang Good they deserved this Justagamer Agreed..They reaped what they sowed Douwe de vries Ubisoft is one of the few third parties who brings games to the WiiU. So i do not understand what you mean with: “they deserved this”. And although Rayman was way to late it still is a fantastic game which i enjoy greatly. Chronic Gang they deserved having low sales because they took rayman legends and delayed just to bring it to other console so they can make more money so i’m glad they didn’t make so much so stupid thinking like that doesn’t happen Chris Woods honestly what did you expect ubisoft. tht you would sell someone a wii u just so they could get yout game on it MISSING CO-OP instead of buying for the pc/xbox/ps3 they already own i had pre ordered it 2. but i cancled it cuz of no co-op for wii u JohnBgon You’re going to see a similar thing happen with Watch Dogs being delayed. More people would have bought it with their new PS4 and Xbox One at launch. Wii U gamers interested in a non Nintendo offering with DK being delayed.. Interest will likely die down by the time the game releases. MK8 and Smash should be arriving around then. Wren Justin Umlauf I think Watch Dogs will still sell pretty well. They’ve been talking about it for a really long time already, and although I’m disappointed about the delay, I know I’m keeping my preorder because it’s something new. It’s not just another sequel or a remake. The True Gamer Wii u is expensive, and has a confusing name. This leads to low sales of the system, and low sales of the games blindtiger i still want to buy both why do they complain about sales and drop prices so fast? not that im complaining but im glad i didnt preorder they so cheap already! nandoikari Those are horrible games, Splinter cell without multiplayer and a creepy platform game that don’t came closer to Mario games. What to expect? Bring better games to the wiiu Ubisoft. BIG Franky but the thing is, Rayman IS tha tgreat of a game….it holds its own against Mario U all day long….its the best platformer I’ve played in a long time. Quicksilver88 Agree Legends is superb and the execution is top notch on that it has good load times, nice gamepad features and fun online component with daily and weekly challenges. I would like to see Nintendo show aubi some love and do. rayman bundle Pikachief Actually, Rayman Legends and Origins is about on par or even surpasses the New Super Mario Bros. series for a lot of people. mojack411 I’m prime suspect number one for the poor Legends sales. I was completely ready to buy it back in February but by the time the game came out a few weeks ago my excitement had completely dissipated. I had Pikmin 3, Monster Hunter 3, and W101 on my WiiU alone along with a landslide of other games for other consoles. There was just no room for Legends. I do still plan on getting Legends eventually (I know it’s a fantastic game) but that time is not now. JeanPaul What were the rayman legends sale numbers? Madmagican roughly a million copies sold not too bad but not too great either Benjah Well hey will still have Mario 3D World and other games to look forward to? Benjah Is not nintendo fault here. MetroidZero The Optimum: Don’t leave out anything on Wii U = Better Sales Daniel Gonzalez That would be the idea, but isn’t a guarantee. Plus, far as I know, they didn’t leave anything out in this game. Zombi U, Lego City Undercover(Nintendo published it yes, but it was developed by a third party), Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor’s Edge and Need for Speed Most Wanted(which looked the best on all consoles) are notable games that third parties didn’t leave anything out on. Yet they still sold poorly or didn’t meet expectations of those third parties. Your statement would hold true if it weren’t for that. Mitch Hall Well, at least they can’t blame the Wii U if it did better there than on any other platform. Yobrolo Splinter Cell sold 10k on WiiU they most have lost tons on that . Deadpool U He meant Rayman Legends. Madmagican Rayman Legends didn’t sell well? What was the goal? It sold 970,000 copies springer85 LMFAO that is PATHETIC across 3 platforms!! GTAV sold 24 MILLION!!!and was released a week later!! BIG Franky it is pathetic, but the GTA5 comparison is idiotic. Daniel Gonzalez True story. People should take notes on the differences between a troll and a neutral party. Pikachief It didn’t sell close to the fastest selling piece of media ever?!? zomg! >.> Madmagican You realize that GTA is one of the best selling franchises of all time right? For smaller games, anywhere close to a million copies sold is a success; the reason Ubisoft doesn’t think Rayman Legends is a success is because they’re treating it like a AAA title when the Rayman team wasn’t nearly that large (smaller teams -> less money needed to be a profitable game) PatcherStation Even if Rayman had been exclusive to the Wii U, it would’ve sold poorly anyway because of poor Wii U sales. Any game released for the Wii U (apart from Nintendo games), would sell poorly. Bayonetta sold well on the Xbox 360 and PS3, but Bayonetta 2 which is a Wii U exclusive, how can SEGA and Nintendo expect to get any success? It’ll probably be released when Wii U sales hit a certain number, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it goes multi format. Taking a game that sold well on 2 formats then making the sequel an exclusive is a big risk. So much for the Wii U following in the footsteps of the Wii….. Marcos Crill Colon No rayman would have sold more on wii u at launch cause most people were going to buy it instead of mario u and most people buy a game or 2 at launch so they held it back and spent more money on more versions for what ? for it to still sell more on wii u ..lol they stupid JB I think it would’ve sold better in Feb, as there were no competing products at the time outside of Super Mario U and people at that point said they were going to buy a Wii U for Rayman. Though let’s just say it sold poorly: They would’ve taken less of a loss for the fact that they were developing the game for one platform, not 4. There’s zero chance that Bayonetta 2 will be multi plat, being that Nintendo is funding the development. Guest Also you have to look at the fact that if it had sold poorly on Wii U they could have just ported it to PS3 and PC. At that point they would be able to see if people on PS3/PC would buy it if not they would only lose a bit of porting money for porting to only two platforms instead of 4. PatcherStation When the Dreamcast was on the go, Resident Evil CODE: Veronica was an exclusive, which was funded by SEGA. Due to poor sales, it ended up going multi format (PC, PlayStation 2 and GameCube). If Nintendo pulls the plug, it’ll probably go multi format. But saying that, I can see a variation of Bayonetta 2 coming to other consoles. I think it’s going to take a long time for the Wii U to build up a high amount of console sales, even after new releases (Mario Kart 8, Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong). JB Who would fund it though? It’s already been said that if it wasn’t for Nintendo publishing, there would be no Bayonetta 2. To my knowledge, Capcom published CODE: Veronica. The only hand Sega had in it was co-development and perhaps timed exclusive rights. springer85 LMFAO!!! Goes to show you how pathetic Ubisoft really are!! They wasted 7 months bringing Rayman to other platforms when the Wii U version sold the best on with the lowest fan base!! They should have just released it back in Feb as a Wii U exclusive!!all that time and money wasted bringing it to other platforms has backfired so badly that it is hilarious!! springer85 Ubisoft have made themselves look a disgrace!!! Rayman was finished back in Feb and ready to launch for the Wii U……they bricked it after Wii U launch figures and decided to go multi platform thinking it would sell millions by doing so!! They wasted their development team for a further 7 months and for what?an utter shite 900k across 3 platforms?LMFAO The amount of money and time that it cost to release it multi platform is way more than what the game made in profit!! I remember back in Feb after the news when the retard from Ubisoft said we heard PS3 and Xbox 360 fans saying that they wanted the game so we listened……yet you listened and the Wii U version sold the most!!!BWAHAHAHAHA The head of Ubisoft will now be fired and so he should ItzameyaToad My God a upvote for you my good sir! Feels a bit strange…..is this real life?!?!??….. hahaha JK but I agree Ubisoft really put themselves through the ringer on this one. RARE Ya done messed up, Ubi. This was supposed to be a launch title. Rayman released but I got Wonder 101 and WWHD instead. You coulda brought the games to WiiU in Spring and ported it later. Jon well, at least they cannot blame Nintendo on weak Rayman sales as it did better on the Wii U. but splinter cell, I hope they don’t blame Nintendo when they removed the offline co-op which would have hurt sales.. Fred They can’t blame Nintendo that it didn’t sell well, but that doesn’t mean they won’t say it didn’t sell well let’s not do something like that ever again. Which is sad cause I love Rayman Legends NkoSekirei rayman for wii u sold lot better then the other consoles version and well splinter cell was awsome mostly the campaign was good but the multiplayer was alot to be desired especially the issues that plague it Antar Rodríguez the only game i was waiting for from ubisoft was watch dogs, and now they got it delayed, its really dissapointing, seems like ubi is a mess right now, ac4 seems like another watered down game maybe ill give it a chance but i just dont know Andrew Chambers Would you rather have a glitchy game in Nov or a more complete title in Mar? Antar Rodríguez i know they want to polish the game but that doesnt take away the disappointment, besides there has been a lot of speculation about ubi being afraid of GTA 5 and that watch dogs wouldnt let AC4 sell well, maybe its true maybe not, one thing is certain one shouldnt take too serious the release dates made by devs, they just dont respect it, if they are not 100% sure if the game will be complete before the release date, then why even say one? Andrew Chambers Devs don’t set release dates, publishers do. Do you remember when Rayman was delayed? A lot of the devs found out from news articles. Caleb Turner Thats what they get for delaying a game because of greed. I would have bought Rayman in Feb but not now there is to many other good games out and coming out. Slimyjimy To be honest, if ubisosft had released Raymond legend exclusive for the wii u i think they would have gotten a much better rating sale because everyone would get Raymond kggendon the wii u. For splinter cell i think they should have not taken off some feature that made a lot of people say “this version sucks” and they just walked to the better bait. I am Error. I really enjoy Rayman. I picked it up on sale at Amazon (39.99) and it was totally worth it. When you see it in the bargain bin, grab it, regardless of the sales strategy involved it’s a worthwhile game. Justin Carlson I had money in hand ready to by Rayman Legends in February. I did’t have the money when it was released last month due to other games coming out that I wanted more. I’m sure I’m not the only one. Cyberus That’s me Daniel Gonzalez It was a shame that they pushed the Wii U version back as well, but that’s the reality of business. Yeah, I barely had some money left to get the game. No matter which platform, it’s quite an awesome game. Hope you pick it up. 🙂 Adecentboy777 I am not surprised after all this postponing! Adecentboy777 Besides, I don’t like games which swho the same stuff on the TV and the Wii U gamepad! Mj78 When decent games come out, zombie u, nfs most wanted, Rayman, delays or not, the sales on wii u are consistently poor. Wii u owners are not buying third party games so why should third parties bother putting games on wii u. The Wii u is a mess from start to finish. The big line up is re hash after re hash. companyoflosers maybe you would have better rayman sales if you didnt lie about keeping it on the wii u only. Krzysztof I didn’t pick up spliter cell only because its missing content. And back in February I cancelled my Rayman preorder. I don’t think I’m the only person who don’t like to be treated as second class customer. NO to half assed games and big no no to tease and disappointment. NkoSekirei looks like ubisoft stocks drop a 25% from delaying their games it seems payback is a bitch wen u screw over gamers of all these delays. Cyberus Could they just wait until Christmas, geeze, I’m not Superman here XP they gotta give me some time to get these games Mario Mamma mia! Seriously!? I thought Rayman legends was selling well on the WiiU! Daniel Gonzalez With the GTA V craze on ps3/360 and WWHD eating up sales for Wii U, I’m not too surprised. Mario Why do you say that? Daniel Gonzalez While Rayman Legends is a great game, a game like GTA V has a huge mass appeal, just as much as Mario.(Sorry Mario, no disrespect to you we still love ya man) A lot of people were saving up for that game so it shouldn’t be a big surprise as John Andalora mentioned. WWHD, while not a huge seller(it being a remake and not a brand new zelda game), appeals more to Nintendo fans. Do you really think most Nintendo fans will pass up Link for Rayman? I doubt it. I think the big reason it failed was due to a poor release date. Mario True. You make a good point. Zelda games have been known to be very appealing to a lot of Nintendo fans. And by a lot, I mean the MAJORITY OF THEM! So is no surprise that even a remake of that franchise would sell better then a multiplatform game like Rayman Legends. Hulkamania I played a demo of the game at Best Buy and the game is really good.. but the price needs to drop a little bit for me to buy it. I’m willing to pay $25 for it. Daniel Gonzalez You’re a celebrity, you can afford the price tag. TAKANYAN The reason I haven’t bought Splinter Cell yet is the fact of the price and the missing feature. The reason I haven’t bought Rayman Legends yet, is the price, and delay. (As the reason stated above in the article) Normally I buy my games $40 or higher around when they’re out. I would’ve gotten Rayman on its original date but instead I got NFS:MWU (to support EA at the time), ME3 (again to support EA), and Lego City since it was a week out. More games are coming to the Wii Ub so (i need more money ; /) I am probably going to Rayman on steam (steam sales), and possibly Splinter cell as well. Also snagged Legends(Bond) a few months back for $15 new on amazon (the golden deal or whatever they call it) D-Man If Rayman Legends was released in Q1 2013 along with Pikmin 3 and the Wonderful 101, it would have selled a LOT better. It was a killer app for the Wii U. It should have stayed exclusive Link Slayer Yeah I think they could have at least sold double if they would have stuck to the plan. I bet 70% of Wii U owners would have got it. Leo Well, delaying Rayman Legends was obviously a very bad decision. They can eat this now. The True Gamer They wouldn’t make money if it was Wii u exclusive, and nobody would want to develop for Wii u if it lost that much money Shadao But they could release the Wii U version first (with later content as DLC) and then make the later versions, as oppose to put all of the eggs in one basket for a stupid simultaneous release. Ubisoft has no one to blame but themselves. Mark It still pisses me off. Now, I didn’t have a problem with Rayman Legends going multiplatform, what pissed me off was the fact they delayed a finished, I repeat A FINISHED version of the game just so they could simultaneously release all the versions. Ubisoft, what did you expect, you delayed the game to potentially the worse time of the year (near GTA V release) and killed all hype for Rayman. There’s no one else to blame but yourselves. Gregg Massively late launch, finally released in a window full of other releases, and, a game missing offline co-op….. Hmmmm, I wonder why. Must be the WiiU’s fault… *facepalm* Agent721 There’s a lot of competition out there, so I’m not surprised. I would also add that things like Playstation Plus add to the lessened demand. I myself haven’t bought either, but I have bought GTAV, Two Souls & Zelda WW HD in the past month. Agent721 On the plus side, look for Splinter cell to be real cheap on Black Friday!! Jared Garcia I think releasing Rayman just before GTA V was the worst idea ever. Christopher Westcott I just think that gamers are selective about purchases more than ever. If you have $60 and you have multiple choices, you are going to pick a GTAV over a Splinter Cell. Timing is everything. Also, I don’t see a lot of advertising for these games. How are they reaching broader markets? Felix GTA V is not for Wii U. how it could be even an option. Splinter Cell sucks, and thats all. Christopher Westcott I should have stated that many of us have multiple systems… You are absolutely right if you are a Wii U only household. Although, I disagree on Splinter Cell. It was widely well received by critics. Felix whoever owns a wii u, would get pikmin, mario, W101 and many many other games before a splinter cell. because in other platforms the game is better and dont miss features. and anyway in other platforms there is better games of that genre Jonathan P Mugridge I purchased both Splinter Cell and Rayman and am extremely happy with both games. Whether the game was delayed or now non exclusive, bla bla bla, I intended to get them and not purchasing the games for any reason is basically biting one of the only hands that is consistently feeding games into the Wii U. devmiles well, in logical sense..who owns a wii-u in relation to a 360 and ps3? everything has been postponed and slowed down too much in regards to the whole game library so far. i think with mario 3d world there will be a first noticable system seller for the wii-u after more than one year aside from a few ok games. we’re talking about a handful games so far that are really worth getting…big shame nintendo, same shit all the time.. Destructonator101 At least they support the wii u, unlike other software developers and publishers. *looks at EA in disgust Tonkka Its ridiculous how these 3rd party companies are just jerking it with the Wii U. Wii U not doing well is partly the fault of the 3rd parties who tested the ice with gimped remakes of old games expecting them to be best sellers. A lot of people didn’t buy the Rayman Legends game as protest towards Ubisoft’s stupid practice of delaying the game to avoid it being “non-relevant” for PS3 and Xbox360 users when it would come out 7 months later, so this one is entirely on Ubisoft. Of course Nintendo has spilled their spices too with the advertisement campaign being non-existent. Leo I agree and i may add that Nintendo probably wouldn’t have treated Rayman Legend as just a random title if Ubisoft had kept it exclusive for the WiiU. You mess with Nintendo and that’s what you get. Tom Greene Oh well Ubisuck. ..that’s what happens when you screw us out of our exclusive … Colin Parks This website i feel is very anti nintendo at times, i have had a wii u since launch and everytime i come on here its all doom and gloom reports? Any reason? Fred Yes there is good reason, the main author, Ashley, isn’t a big fan of the Wii U. In fact, I heard her say on the Game Critics podcast that she regrets buying a Wii U every day. Agent721 If we have to be honest, the news isn’t good regardless of how Ashley feels. And she’s entitled to her opinion…I disagree, but it is what it is. The True Gamer It’s sad, but Nintendo isn’t very well respected anymore. They have dropped the quality of their games and lost a large part of their audience. Most Nintendo news is just bad news, and I don’t see that changing until next holiday season. wiiudailysucks just look at this website. late news, full of trolls, commenters with the brain function of a gold fish and editors who really couldn’t give a toss about the company they arre writing about. go to nintendo life or go nintendo, their a lot better pbd2 I was going to buy this on wiiu but decided to get it on the xbox 360 because of the achievements. I didn’t really enjoy the tablet exclusive features from the demo. I imagine it going multiplatform would have boosted sales, Rayman is a great game but its hardly a system seller. Larry Howell Hrm…. even though there is an achievement system in the Wii U version? Or were you solely looking to boost your Gamerscore? pbd2 I like the global achievement system the xbox offers. Wiiluigi Who cares!?! That’s what they get! They can’t make up their minds. First it’s full support exclusive Rayman! Then it’s well the Wii U isn’t selling so well. Then it’s we have games coming and they push it back. Then it’s Wii U is a great system. How can fans be so sure of a company that’s not sure of themselves??? I understand you don’t wanna lose money cause it’s always about the money. Losing money making money is critical to company to stay alive. But you need a fan base to keep you alive. Also watch dogs was delayed right? Why? Game is done isn’t it? Fans get mad because of events like this they’re losing more fans!!! Get an agenda together man!!! But I don’t care cause they lost me long ago. Im so done with Ubisoft I will not even comment on another Ubisoft thread. Ever! Petri Well, for all those who said, “offline coop doesn’t matter”… Are you having good luck with online? And now we see it works another way around as well, people with ps3 and 360 didn’t care much for the gimped Wii U game. Mathew Vogt This Really Does Not Suprise Anyone SkullScience Hmm! Some interesting points to make here. Firstly, it is well known that, for some unexplained reasons, Splinter Cell on Wii U appeared to have had limited stock in major game selling outlets in both UK and US with many staff reported as saying only one copy was provided per store, hence it was not capable of selling well on the high-street. This was not reported to be the case with 360 and PS3 versions. Secondly, I suspect Rayman would have sold a lot more if released at launch of the console due to initial high demand. Poor marketing by UBI and kind of got what they deserved on both counts as, by all accounts, Rayman was ready for launch on Wii U a long time ago and that Splinter Cell didn’t sell well across all platforms, so the Wii U uptake was rather high considering how many people own the console. Sylux Rayman Legends sold less then expected, kinda expected with a 7 month delay, but atleast it sold best on WiiU. But SCBL, well what did you expect ubi? If you deliver an incomplete game on a platform for the same price, atleast Warner added a pricecut to compensate for missing content, then again missing content should not happen at all on any platform no matter what the reason would be. I’m not surprised at all on SCBL’s sales I’m sorry. Kmac I’m sorry to say this but it looks like the Wii U will be extinct and Nintendo will enter the dark ages aka (Dreamcast screwjob) Leo I’m glad you are sorry. Thomas FROEHLICHER Sounds like the official end of 3rd party support on WiiU ikariwarrior Sounds like wishful thinking from s-thing trash Ryuzaki57 of vgchartz. ufg don’t you go blaming Nintendo for this, Ubisoft. That’s what you get for delaying it until Grand Theft Auto Five was released CapnCrumbles436 Release SPBL along side GTAV and then cut features off the WiiU version…and we are surprised? WiiU has been getting the crap version of most multiplats, and there really isn’t an excuse. The hardware is more powerful, the online network offers greater possibilities, the gamepad offers unique play options. I’m tired of developers blaming N. Lame.
