A couple of months ago when the Wii U version of Watch Dogs was delayed behind the May 27 release date, I speculated that Ubisoft was looking to pull out of development for Nintendo consoles. Child of Light was released at the end of April and Ubisoft already has their next UbiArt title Valiant Hearts lined up, but guess what. It’s not heading to Wii U, either. Rumors flew that the next Assassin’s Creed game would be divided into two releases, code-named Unity and Comet. Neither of those were rumored to be coming to Wii U. Ubisoft finally took away all the rumors and speculation and confirmed what we know, that Ubisoft has no plans to show any games for Nintendo consoles. They’re done with Nintendo for now, as the latest Assassin’s Creed game, Far Cry 4, and the UbiArt project Valiant Hearts are all skipping the Wii U, according to one representative. “We won’t be showing off any Nintendo games at E3 this year. That’s a shame, since Ubisoft was one of the early partners for the Wii U and released the survival horror game ZombiU. It didn’t do as well as the company hoped and from there it was a downhill struggle. Rayman Legends was delayed and eventually released on multiple consoles, though the Wii U version of the game is the best version to play. We hope Ubisoft changes its mind about showcasing games for the Wii U, but we’re not holding our breath. local_offer Nintendo wii u stars Further Reading Zelda: Breath of the Wild has 76 side-quests Confirmed: Breath of the Wild is the last Wii Switch vs Wii U game case size comparison Miyamoto dismisses the Wii U as a “nece 6 reasons to grab a Nintendo Switch before March 6 reasons to skip the Nintendo Switch for now BIG Franky in fairness, there might be a “multi-plat” game announced that can come to Wii U… like the new iteration of Just Dance…. that can come to Wii U (and definitely Wii) without it being a “Nintendo Announcement” …if that makes any sense… J_Joestar hopefully they just mean Nintendo Exclusive? *wishful thinking* “Sean” jjbredesen No, there is no games at all…..Far Cry 4 is not coming, and none of the AC games are. And there is no new just dance game either, they have already released a list of games that will be shown. I guess the trend has started, but hey MK8 in 7 days 😀 Lil J Moore Nintendo should be partnering up with them for another go at a ZombiU. That’s about the only game I want to see from them. Daniel Gonzalez It didn’t sell enough to meet their expectations. Probably unlikely to happen anytime soon. Lil J Moore For a low budget New IP that sold over 680,000 copies with little to no advertisements (not counting Digital sales) is at least enough to warrant a sequel. Nintendo should come out of their pockets and help fund it. But honestly I don’t see it happening Daniel Gonzalez You would think so, but Ubisoft doesn’t see it that way. I can only guess they had high expectations for the game. The game just didn’t look as good as it could have, but that’s expected from a launch title. It would make sense for Nintendo to help fund it and help get some third party exclusives on its Wii U, but the odds of that happening are slim. Rinslowe Exactly. Still some of the best lighting I’ve seen on the platform so far. And genuine scares, which is a rarity in Zombie games lately. I’m certain that if Nintendo were prepared to meet Ubisoft half way on a sequel, it would happen. I don’t think Ubisoft are reluctant to do another one because the sales weren’t enough for that one title, but the performance overall for all their releases on Wii U so far. I also don’t see that type of co-funding happening, but would be happy if it did. Mercurio2054 but, i don’t know why they need to sell millions, they’rent loosing money, they earn some, not as spectated but it was 1+ no 0 or – lonewolf Dont expect farcry 4 to be for the wii u when they didnt even released farcry 3 on tre wii u division is not coming even that online tom clancys game was canceled the only games they release were zombie u (which is avarege at best) rayman legends which was delayed and canceled as an exclusive, assassins creed 3 (lets face it nobody liked that game) assassins creed 4 child of light and (short rpg) and acklisg (which sold poorly at every console). Mr. J I can’t blame them. They’ve been supporting the Wii U like crazy and all it’s got them is huge losses. Lil J Moore Yes. They supported the WiiU. but they weren’t perfect with it. They hurt themselves really Rinslowe That’s a good way to put it. I think their support of the Wii U was pretty good. But starting with Rayman, Ubisoft drew their line in the sand and let the consumers know what they thought was important for them. Then leaving out features, lacking optimisation… I thought this would have come to this point earlier. And yet I’ve enjoyed their titles on Wii U for what they are. FutureFox They sabotaged themselves. abe They delayed their system seller and made it multi format. If rayman came out when it was supposed to more people would of bought Wii U’s and those people would of tried ZombiU The Clockwork Being There was a DROUGHT!! Ubisoft could have easily put out rayman during that, advertise enough alot of people would have bought it! abe That extra 6 months got us a volley ball game that’s 2 days work, 6 origins levels that’s what a day and those modified levels… That’s a week max Yeah they couldn’t of released 6 months before when it was needed. Nah they had to wait and send it head to head with god damn GTAV. I wonder which earned a billion and which failed to make an impact… It should of came out when it was ready. The team wanted it released for Wii u and not delayed. That would of kept that launch momentum going and would of convinced THQ to actually release Metro and WWE both was in dev The reyman delay, then multiplatform damaged Wii u simple as lonewolf If you call few games out supporting it like crazy then you have no idea what are you talking about. Mr. J I mean compared to other companies they were the best supporters. John Andalora If you call 15 games “a few games.” Heck, Nintendo only released 19 so far (20 with MK8). Daniel Gonzalez Yep. Not really that either, though. Third party games in general rarely ever sell on a Nintendo console. The way I see it, they did themselves a favor and put their resources where it sells. Besides, pretty sure most Nintendo fans won’t care anyways. Well, at least they claim not to. Officer Raichu the only 3rd parties i think that sells really well is monster hunter and just dance Ice Climbers Handhelds are a different story of course. SSFIV3D sold over a million copies and it was just a port (pretty damn good port though), though it was also the only decent option at launch unless you were a Nintendogs fan. Monster Hunter did extraordinarily well, while Resident Evil Revelations and Bravely Default did better than most people expected. Mercurio2054 they don’t have loses, just they don’t earn as much as other consoles, but they aren’t loosing money with Nintendo. CEObrainz Don’t mean to sound like a fanboy, but Watch Dogs seems to be the only game I want from Ubisoft. Everything else including Assassins creed just didn’t persuade me enough. Also I don’t plan on having a mega-library of games this generation and the ones that I currently know about are going to keep me busy until the SuperWiiUFusion2 comes out. I think it’s this mindset that prevents Ubisoft from supporting Nintendo though….lol Daniel Watchdogs feature trailer is all we want. Hopefully they include that in the Nintendo Direct. Ducked As someone who will be owning a PS4 this fall. This shouldn’t really bug you if your a Nintendo fan. I don’t plan on buying any of their new games except for Watch Dogs. Assassins Creed is becoming another Call of Duty. Unless ubisoft reveals any NEW games, then there isn’t anything to be upset about. LegendofGroose I understand that the Wii U isn’t doing so well and why companies such as Ubisoft and EA are not making games for the console, but I fail to understand why they aren’t making games for the 3ds. The 3ds has shipped over 40 million units worldwide. I’m surprised that these companies do not take advantage of this system and its install base. Mercurio2054 because is against the company (Nintendo) no the user base, the total consoles, or what ever excuses they use. John Andalora Look at all the games that Ubisoft made for the 3DS http://www.ubi.com/US/Games/Search.aspx?plTag=3ds Now ask yourself: How many copies of these games were actually sold? I think the 3DS thing is more Ubisoft, not Nintendo. Lil J Moore LOL those were games? The Clockwork Being YEAH I KNOW!! Imagine Babyz should have sold 5 million copies lol/sarcasm Honestly those really aren’t the ”games” that people will buy and that will sell tons of copies. RecheDiazrivarola i get rayman and child of light. Again, FUCK YOU UBISOFT FUCK YOU, Again. abe Western devs prefer consoles Eastern devs prefer handhelds Its why the vita has been having trouble because it wants to be both but its not WiiUPS4 Then im done with Ubisoft.. Sounds fair right Daniel Gonzalez Depends on what you feel is fair. Regardless, it’s your money. Spend it how you like. WiiUPS4 True Ubisoft is not that great of a gaming company anyways Suraj Alexander Not really. unless wii u is the only console you have there are many reasons to buy ubi games. I am buy a ps4 just for their game tom clancy’s the division, far cry 4, AC5 and many more games that makes me love them. they had a valid point for leaving nintendo. they supported them the best they could but it was not paying off. Even though i hate EA it is not because they won’t support nintendo however much i would like them to. they bring out games half finished and it did annoy me that they took the piss with nintendo calling them last gen and what not but need for speed most wanted was an incredible and people were stubborn and did not appreciate it so they left nintendo for good. WiiUPS4 what it was is lazyness. None of the third parties even gave nintendo Wii U a chance and that is what is sad ..So Ubisoft did a few games these third parties could have made different games for the Wii U but were just to damn lazy and it’s a disgrace Suraj Alexander I agree ubi is the only developers that put any effort into nintendo. with the exception to nfs most wanted. that game is amazing kentray1985 Nintendo is not making the changes that within their policy and console to reach potential buyers demands. Adding proper social features like party chat and a invite to game feature would give a ton of people a reason to go grab a wiiu but Nintendo being ol stubborn Nintendo will stick to their stone age tactics and keep appealing to the kids. Miiverse is great accept it feels more like a childrens facebook! Lil J Moore How are they appealing to kids? I just don’t understand these comments Suraj Alexander Nintendo is very constricting with their social features with kids in thought which is really limiting them. nintendo will be reluctant in adding cross game chat or game chat in their games with kids in mind. Lil J Moore As a big time Online MP kind of guy I like and hate this. Game chatting is annoying as hell to me. On Xbox all I hear is little brats cussing people out and talking about private parts and on Sony I hear douche bags that seem slightly less annoying then the little kids but still just as bad. Maybe Nintendo fans are a little more mature but I’m not holding my breath. Daniel Gonzalez If Nintendo had the same features, it’s safe to say that those fans wouldn’t be much different than Microsoft and Sony. There’s idiots like that no matter where you go. I find it more fun to play with friends in a private game than online any day, regardless of which platform. 😛 Lil J Moore Friend lobbies and friend chat is something I can live with Daniel Gonzalez As much as going online can be fun, you just never know when a whiny kid comes around and spoils the party. Fred Except we don’t get friend chat during the actual game Officer Raichu agree because who knows how much the f bomb would be dropped if they allowed open chat in mario kart(when you get hit by a blue shell or lightning) Rinslowe I would probably be guilty of that in extreme cases. Officer Raichu well then im not playing with you if that happens XD Rinslowe Don’t worry, there won’t be any hard feelings in the lobby. 😛 But excuse me if I don’t take the liberty of doing so during a match…? Seeing as though chat is disabled otherwise Officer Raichu thats good 😀 Rinslowe C U on the track! Officer Raichu C U in 2nd behind me XD Rinslowe / (-_-) / Please understand Mercurio2054 thatis correct. Fred At least allow voice chat with people on my friend list I always have to simultaneously run a conversion on my cell phone Mercurio2054 i think the same Suraj Alexander I understand but there is an option to mute. Lil J Moore Plus does anyone else remember the swapnote incident? Suraj Alexander Yup, i was going to mention that but was too lazy Fred Normally I disagree when people say nintendo aims only at kids, but when it comes to voice chat while playing games, they’re driving me crazy! At least let us do voice chat with our friends even if you won’t allow it with random people. Trash talk is half the fun of playing online with buddies matthew garcia The looks of the games are kiddish but the difficulty of the games are actually pretty tough. You know how people always judge a book by its cover. The games do look pretty kiddish though Darius eh. i think they try to appeal to everyone honestly. who’s to really say what looks kiddish especially in an art aspect that kinda doesn’t make matthew garcia Well the art looks like a cartoon and they don’t talk they just make weird noises lol. Sounds Kiddish to me Darius never heard of adult cartoons? Fred Really? Where do you live? You’ve never heard of Simpsons, Family Guy, King of the Hill? Certainly you’ve heard of South Park (not a kid show by any definition) Darius was that directed at me or did u make a mistake? Fred Wow sorry, that was directed at you, but it’s cause I misread your thing. I thought it said Never heard of adult cartoons Darius and you’re wrong they do talk but you would have to read it which is something most adult can do Fred You’re not kidding. Just last night my wife and I were playing donkey Kong country tropical freeze together. We had to play this one level almost 20 times to beat it. boynhisblobs I just wanna know when “cartoon” graphics became just for kids? By this logic Family Guy is for kids? To me a cartoon style just says better artwork. Daniel Carvalho Unfortunately, that’s how western logic is: if it is a cartoon, it is obligatory for kids, and whatever the reason may be, adults who watch them are to be outcast from the “acceptable” social circle. In Brazil, Cartoons for adults, like The Simpsons and Futurama, are rated as L for Livre (Free for All Audiences)! tronic307 It has an ‘arcade’ look. Because brown and grey =! mature. Daniel Carvalho Advertisements are made for children primarily (remember the Wii U ads, full of creepily smiling families listening to children making charts on how they can spend more family time together?), and are mostly on cartoon channels – Nickelodeon, Disney. Instead of advertising more mature games on adult channels (like ZombiU on Fox, for example, specially if they’re broadcasting a movie about zombies or The Walking Dead), they focus all their advertisements on family friendly stuff. Even their services are made having children in thought. Sure, that’s nice knowing you can let your kids playing on your Wii U without the fear of them being exposed to unsafe content, but we end up having no alternative for more adult choices. Just look at the Region Lock: Nintendo themselves told the world the reason they have Region Lock in their consoles is because of the difference in availability by age of games; instead of letting adults turn the Region Lock on or off for that matter, we have to swallow that and wait for games to come to our country or never play it! Nintendo has always appealed to kids, and that’s great for an industry that bases itself in gore games and Call of Duties. It’s great having a safe place where children can play with others without having to hear other 9 years old telling how they slept with each others’ mothers. But Nintendo doesn’t know how to balance that, and tend to neglect their adult audience most of the time. MujuraNoKamen So much truth 🙁 Capt. Smoker Agreed on so many things, mostly that Nintendo appeals to kids, I wouldn’t have my kid play any other console, it’s a safe haven in that sense, for an old man like me though, there’s really not an awful lot to do on the Wii U, I mostly use it for browsing and watching anime, for the price, the console is quite justified in my eyes for just that lol, I enjoy a lot of games with my kid, pikmin 3, 3d world, even wonderful 101 was something we enjoyed together. Overall I’m quite happy with Nintendo, happy enough to trade off sub par mature games in favour of Nintendo ones anyway, I just wish they could strike a good balance to get more kinds of games on board, kinda like the Vita, sells poorly but I assume Sony reach out to some extent to get some decent third party games on there. Nintendo will always be different and that’s great but to compete and go forward, they really need to change their ways and reach out for support some more, until then I’ll probably just play a few homebrew emulators in Wii mode, it’s not like anything can compete with Chrono trigger/cross in todays modern jrpg market anyway 😉 what a wonderful machine I have lol. Sylux Are there any adds for Wii U? I still havent seen any although I’m an adult man I’m kinda addicted to the Pokemon anime on Disney Channel (in Europe, the Dutch disney channel) but even there all “rare occasional adds” I see are for 3DS… Haven’t seen any tv add since December 2012, yet Nintendo wonders how comes noone wants their Wii U, and why no 3rd parties want to support us, even Ubisoft pulls the plug… Lilburrito Is Nintendo even responsible for marketing Zombie U? I know it’s an exclusive title and it has the “U” in it, but I thought that’d be all Ubisoft’s responsibility. And Zombie U really is the ONLY ( I think ) M rated Wii U exclusive out right now. Of all the exclusive released titles out so far, Zombie U is the only one that I’d expect to see on Fox or even AdultSwim. Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, despite it’s hardcore demeanor would just sort of be out of place on those stations ( my opinion ). Same applies for 101, being a Sentai game and all. If anything. I’d think they wouldn’t have “much” choice but advertise on those cartoon channels. The only thing I wish they’d do is get rid of the “family at the couch” theme. We need more commercials like the original Smash Bros ad! 😀 That has mass appeal for people of all ages. Even the recent MK8 ads are starting to come back with that sort of wacky mass appeal. I just can’t think of anywhere else they could plaster them. :/ Oh well. I’m drowsy, so for all I know I could be talking out my ***. Daniel Carvalho I was just giving an example. It’s true Ubisoft is the one who developed and published ZombiU, and thus is theirs the responsibility of marketing the title, but Nintendo is also at fault for not advertising the console when the game first came out. Aside from ZombiU, the Wii U also has Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor’s Edge (the version where Team Ninja fixed all the mistakes from the previous crappy version). Yes, there are only a few M rated games for it, but they didn’t advertise a single title correctly. And yeah, we’re all sick of the family commercials. They focus so much on showing children talking to their ever smiling parents that can crack horrible jokes that tear apart your soul that they literally have no time to show gameplay footage or the console itself! Just check out the Wii U ads and see how, over the time, they focused more and more on the families and gave less and less time to games and the console, having from little to no footage in some ads. Lilburrito No worries, I knew it was an example. And I think at the time Razor’s Edge came, out it was announced that Team Ninja’d be porting it over to PS3 and 360. But anywho ~ Back to what I said before. I think they’ve been stepping up their game a bit with their approach to these sort of things. It may be a tad bit late but it’s better than never getting it. The Mega 64 E3 announcement video, the HAWP Donkey Kong promotion video. The Tomodachi Life and Smash Bros direct. The problem could’ve easily been that they were terribly out of touch after marketing to families for the entirety of the last generation or that they REALLY meant in when they said they’d be focusing on the “hardcore gamers this year”. But who knows, I just hope they keep pursuing this new direction of marketing their software. The 6 or so ads for MK8 are coming out nicely, and the E4 agreement really is an unexpected surprise. Guesty Pooh! Here in Australia out of the games I own Deus Ex, Darksiders 2, Tekken Tag are rated M, none of those are exclusive (although they are Wii U versions with exclusive characters and features) and Ninja Gaiden is rated R. Ironically Australia’s first R rated game was on a Nintendo console, the Wii U! kentray1985 You dont understand comments like mine because you’re so busy being a fan boy and take defense against any thing said about Nintendo. Trust that I have a wiiu and im a fan of Nintendo but they are appealing more to kids now compared to games they had back in the nes and snes days. Miiverse has a majority of kids than adults because not too many mature gamers take Nintendo serious anymore so they choose to game on pc, xbox, and playstation for a hardcore experience. Nintendo even advertise the wiiu with mostly family and kid friendly commercials. They dont have a optical plugin on the wiiu for serious gamers who use turtle beaches yet they have advertisded cod on the wiiu eventhough that game doesnt get no dlc at all. They act as if the wiiu would cater to online players but the system doesnt even have a good online feature like party chat so friends can stay connected and invite eachother to games on the dash. Its like playstation 3 all over again and Sony just got the message after seeing so many complain about cross chat not being on the ps3 and Nintendo still manages to get this wrong eventhough they launched a year earlier. Microsoft created what now can be called a standard for a online system and thats party chat and a invite feature from the dash. Nintendo could make these changes and start supporting some of the hardcore fans by funding games like contra and a mega man game or even partnering up with capcom again for some more RE chronicles games and oh lord a Resident evil remake game. These are reasons to own a wiiu and not just having the expected mario kart and zelda games. I love mario kart and zelda games but people are mostly waiting for games like bayonetta 2 and fatal frame to get a wiiu. Iwata need to comeback to reality and make these critical changes or Nintendo needs to find a new leader. Thats all real talk but on a more positive note mario kart 8 is going to be a blast and cant wait to play it with my nieces. I couldnt play mario 3d world with them because the great idea to not add an option for online co-op in a 4 player co-op game! Lil J Moore Your first sentence is so wrong, but if that’s how you see it then so be it. Anyway I agree with some of your statements. Why are people so quick to throw around the fanboy response when someone asks a question? Daniel Carvalho That’s really annoying. I rarely read past the sentence where they claim you’re a fanboy, because usually the rest is just biased statements on why you’re wrong, instead of actual answers to your comments or questions. For some reason, people can’t even ask on internet anymore without being outcasted as “fanboys” Officer Raichu so long! greengecko007 While I agree with some of what you’re saying, your comment is a bit of an eyesore. It’s difficult to read, and there’s really no need to call somebody a fanboy just for questioning your opinion and furthering the discussion. kentray1985 Well im sorry that my comments look like one huge paragraph. Its kind of a pain commenting on my phone. I also get kind of carried away when im talking about Nintendo because I do still love the company and all the amazing games they have given us! I just wish they would make more deals for games and make needed changes for the wiiu that would help the online experience instead make people who only game on their consoles dislike it even more. The ds and the wii had better online support for games then the wiiu. I dont understand what Mr Iwata is doing rightnow. The only thing that keeps me calm is that mario kart 8 will be available next friday. Im going to pull some allnighters with that game for sure! greengecko007 “I also get kind of carried away when im talking about Nintendo because I do still love the company and all the amazing games they have given us!” I can understand that sometimes the people that are the most critical are actually the biggest fans, as I’m in the same boat. I’m glad you’re excited about Mario Kart 8 though. It looks great and I’m sure it will be giving me quite a few all nighters too! kentray1985 I hope Nintendo finally announces the release dates for bayonetta 2 and super smash bros 4. What games are you mostly looking foward to seeing at E3 this year? greengecko007 Honestly, even though E3 is rapidly approaching, the only thing on my mind of late has been Mario Kart 8. However, I am looking forward to the new games Nintendo will reveal at E3, especially the ones that are supposed to use the gamepad creatively. I’m sure the Zelda U official reveal will be great too. kentray1985 Well the most creative feature for the gamepad is to have your own screen while someone plays on the tv instead of split screening so im still clueless on why you cant do the same on mario kart 8. I would like to hope it was just a technical problem rather them saying whatever, its still a great game! greengecko007 I have access to my own HD TV, so off TV play on the gamepad offers absolutely nothing to me unfortunately, and I don’t have any games that take advantage of the split screen option either. I’m looking more for creative gameplay options that utilize both screens, kind of like what was shown off with Nintendo Land. I’d actually love to see a Nintendo Land 2! Rinslowe Just don’t get too frustrated when I school your sorry self online… 😛 (let the smack talkin begin) 🙂 Santiago I always use Skype even if the game has voice, its more reliable i guess Mercurio2054 childrens facebook? come on, i see things in the Mass Efect community for 15+ or more. WiiUPS4 I disagree. So i quess Zombi U is a kiddie game Right? matthew garcia The mistake was naming the game zombie u. Sounds childish. No Wii u game should have a U at the end cuz it makes the game sound less appealing. Other then that though the only rated m games are from 3rd party and none from Nintendo. So Nintendo is Kiddish looking WiiUPS4 Not really there are games on the Wii U that are not kiddish but each to their own i quess matthew garcia The only one that’s not Kiddish is metroid and sometimes Zelda depending on how dark or the art direction they take. When I say Kiddish I just mean the look not the gameplay WiiUPS4 I can say this i hope they show a new metroid game for Wii U and 3ds matthew garcia I hope so to man Ace J wait so nintendo is kiddish looking because of not having a rated M game? damn you are shallow. matthew garcia I said in a previous post that they had a Kiddish look but high difficulty so I’m not sure where your getting at SkullScience All consoles are aimed at kids if judging on aesthetics. Nintendo the younger bracket, Sony/MS high school bracket. Mature gamers see past the image and judge a game on depth and enjoyment. Zombi U was a fantastic game aimed at older gamers as it was based on a 1980’s game called Zombi by UBI. matthew garcia That’s doesn’t make any sense, video games are entertainment just like movies and not all movies are aimed for kids just like not all video games are aimed for kids. There are rated m games just like rated r movies. SkullScience No, you are looking at sub-genres. To put it as an analogy, Nintendo = Disney and Sony/MS = Marvel. Primarily aimed at kids but capable of wider appeal. It is just that the age range is different at the lower end. It is simple marketing due to peer pressure and parents wallets, it makes good business sense. There are horror titles (like Zombi U, Walking Dead, Dead Rising 3) but they are not the primary driver. Look at XB1/PS4 adverts. Sport stars, sexy girls, big explosions… all ripe for hormonal adolescents. Nintendo is more bright colours, cartoon characters. All kids, just kids of different ages. Your argument is moot as a console in itself is a brand in terms of hardware, the cinema does not have that, it is simply a medium. mustdisqus What is interesting now is that the kids that grew up on their nes or master system in the late 80s – 90s are now adults with kids of their own, and yet many of them are not willing to give up on playing videogames. The problem is that in the west they are still thought of as kids toys regardless. I read in one newspaper one dad had been queuing for hours to buy a PS4 for his 3 year old daughter. LOL. Of course it was for her. So the industry’s audience is slowly growing up. Read a videogame magazine from 1994 or even 2004 compared to one from 2014. It’s immediately obvious from the style of writing that the audience was much younger back then, and the further back you go, the younger the audience seems to be. Less magazines now write in a casual unserious mate-to-mate conversation style, with far less use of exclamation marks and ‘cool’ slang terms. With the hardware companies, it’s up to them as to which specific audiences they still wish to target-nintendo want to stick to that casual family audience. A great idea as it worked fine for the wii, but due to current poor advertising together with that confusing ‘U’ name, few even to this day even know the difference between the wii-U and a standard wii. The casual audience that bought a wii either for their kids or for wii fit (a major boost to sales) may not see the benefit of updating by spending another $200+. With the fall in sales and therefore finances I suspect they are holding off most advertising until their very biggest releases are now ready (kart, zelda etc). Sony and MS seem to have made the best effort with non stop advertising and leaning towards that male teen market that lusts for women and dramatic action-which is surely always going to be a safe bet in a videogame market which is overloaded with games that use cinematic cut scenes (that I almost always skip-I want to play not watch), and of course generic first person gun games. With the new PS4 and XBox One also advertising their entertainment features in their ads, that may be enough to reach out to a casual older age group-ie make them feel less ashamed to buy a console. They may be relieved that traditional consoles that focused on nothing but games have now become extinct. A console no longer just plays games, so it’s no wonder why some magazines and websites have now sadly labelled Sony and MS’s latest efforts negatively as glorified gaming pc’s, but whether its Sony MS or Nintendo, there needs to be a balance of gaming styles in order to appeal to all audiences of all ages. Officer Raichu what are you talking about pikmin is the most dark game out there they get stomped, burned to death, drowned, electrocuted, eaten, boubled, stabbed, thrown off cliffs, decompose and more but ill tell you pikmin is full of violenve Rinslowe I wanted to agree here. But Miiverse is a breath of fresh air. And I prefer a children’s facebook over a child’s playground any day. That’s not to imply Miverse is perfect. Hardly. But it’s unashamedly free of trolls and immaturity for the most part. For a children’s anything, that’s a pretty good achievement. Magnus Eriksson Actually it got a lot better with the latest update being able to “yeah” individual comments 🙂 Rinslowe I haven’t yeah’d anyone’s comments yet except posts. But there have been a few posts where some comments were worthy for sure so yeah. I agree. Magnus Eriksson cool, i do that. magirisida is mine. “Sean” jjbredesen Yeah, i really love that, but they still need to remove the 3min thing! Rinslowe True. Sean Jarret I disagree… every day I get home from work and find that all my (admittedly brilliant, engaging, witty and modest) replies have been yeahed a great number of times – which keeps me from being notified of wether someone replied. Magnus Eriksson Im a troll. Thats what I love. Officer Raichu troll is love troll is life darkcreap Yep agreed on that. Also agreed on the fact that they should remove the 3 min limit between posts. kentray1985 Yeah man I agree with you totally on that. I just wish Nintendo would fund more great hardcore games like contra or more Resident evil titles like Resident Evil Remake hd or even better a remake Resident evil 2 and 3. These are moves to get more adult gamers back on board with Nintendo but sadly Mr Iwata is now making really bad decisions with the wiiu like that great decision for the wiiu to be region locked. Other terrible decisions like not having a party chat or online co-op for 4 player games like mario 3d world. Im not going to even mention alot of other problems I have with the decisons coming from Nintendo because the sales of the wiiu explains everything. Im a diehard fan of Nintendo so I enjoy miiverse and their first party games but my love for Nintendo games wont bring in gamers. None of my friends have a wiiu and they all are Nintendo fan boys. Its just like how I have friends that are xbox fan boys but chose to game on the ps4 over the x1. I see microsoft is trying and making some great decisions to get gamers back on board on the new xbox system but Nintendo is still doing the samething and little has changed with the wiiu which is a complete shame! Michael Ocampo Have you even visited the some of the new download communities or the smash community?! XD Rinslowe Ok Smash granted is something different. And yes to answer the question. Free for the most part… It really comes down to the difference in pockets of the usual rubbish to a majority of calm… Dáibhí wotshissurname “party chat and a invite to game feature would give a ton of people a reason to go grab a wiiu” Wat. Sure their social infrastructure on Nintendo Network could be better, but ultimately, this is more communal and novel answer to the other options available. Plus, you highlighted Party and Invite (BTW 3DS has invite) over achievements? Really? kentray1985 Yes it would and why on earth would you not want those features with online games like cod, mario kart 8. and super smash bros. Then fans like you wonder why most dlc gets left out of multiplayers games for the wiiu. Nintendo fans dont really care for online enough for them to make that commitment. They be like you, whaaaaat lol bob Invite to play is really a game feature, and i already hate the stupid friend requests from random guy 7 i played with online for 1 game. Also the wii u is really a kid console and should stay that way. If you want “mature” (how mature are you playing games) gaming you should get ps or xbox. The problem lies in nintendo competing in that space. They need to crank out the good 1st party games we can play with our kids, like metroid from nintendoland with a storyline in online multiplayer that would be like metroid blast hunters. It can still be good and have the gameplay you see on over consoles, or better since it is nintendo and not some lame 3rd party cranking out sub par yearly rehashes. kentray1985 Hey people like you are why they are doing this bad. You are being a fan boy and saying hey, its alright for them to make those choices and have those restrictions because they are Nintendo. You must be a young guy because people that grew up on Nintendo wasnt playing just kid oriented games. Nintendo is the birthplace for games like Conkers bad fur day, killer instinct, double dragon, contra, star fox, and many more hardcore games that people that are now adults still enjoy and hope for sequels till this day. Who are you to say Nintendo should just cater the casuals and kids. Nintendo is a videogame company and they should stick to their roots and have something for all type of players! SkullScience What people don’t like to hear is that all consoles are aimed at kids, just some aimed at older kids than others. It makes good business sense due to peer pressure and parents wallets. Nintendo is aimed at the 7-12(ish) with cartoon characters and bright colours and Sony/MS aimed at 13-16(ish) with hormone pumping ad’s with big guns, explosions, sexy girls etc… It is nothing new and it is just the adults who don’t like to admit they are falling for it. It is actually the mature gamers who see past the image and are more interested in what the game/console has to offer. Kristian Kouvo You want Mario to look like a Terminator with moustache? mustdisqus I trust no one wish a ‘tasche that collects coins and mushrooms The Clockwork Being I knew this was coming the moment they never mentioned Ghost Recon U ever again. MerryBlind . Can’t really blame them. Most of their games simply don’t seem to sell on Nintendo platforms. However, they would be stupid not to release the next Rayman game on Nintendo too. THAT’s a game that sells on Nintendos. MerryBlind . I’m just hoping ZombiU will go the same way of Red Steel on Wii. Launch title with flaws (although ZombiU is MUCH better than the very bad Red Steel 1) and then YEARS later, release a sequel that improves upon everything the first one did. If sales do one day pick up for Wii U, maybe Ubisoft will come back give us an awesome sequel to ZombiU. Ashley King That’s the real hope, here. ZombiU was a flawed masterpiece. If they had been able to take the time to polish it up, I think it would be excellent. I’d love to see games set in other settings around the world, too. “Sean” jjbredesen Okey, i feel like writing a long rant, but… ok lets do this: Q: Lets ask ourselves why are Ubisoft not supporting Wii U this year? A: No money to make. Q: Why is there no money to make? A: Small install base, and very few of Wii U owners actually buy 3rd Party games. Q: Why not try again? MK8 will save Wii U? A: Because they will loose more money, and Mario Kart 8 will boost sales, but again it will not make them explode, and the Nintendo fan mentality of only buying Nintnedo games makes it worse. Q: How can this be fixed? A: Nintendo needs to contact devs, show that they want them to develop, partner with them and promote the 3rd party games on the front page of the Eshop, help devs with developing and perhaps even pay some. They need to show that they care, and they also need to give devs a system that they can work with. Q: What can YOU do? A: Buy the Ubisoft games that are out, if they are good then buy them, then devs will make more games for Wii U, if we get bad games then don’t buy them, but games that 3rd parties put a lot of work behind and then don’t sell well such as ZombiU and Rayman should get some decent sales. FutureFox In summary: Ask not what your Nintendo can do for you. Ask what you can do FOR your Nintendo. “Sean” jjbredesen Nah, that was not my point, but Nintendo is obvously not going to help, so i guess it is up to us, i think it is wrong of Nintendo do make it be like that, but that is what it seems like. I don’t agree with it, just pointing it out. Daniel Gonzalez If Nintendo cares so much for the WiiU’s success, then I don’t see why they can’t go out of their way to help support these developers. It makes sense to me. Not sure what Iwata is thinking, but right now, he’s not doing a great job at the moment. He better have a good plan come this E3, or they’ll have to survive on their 1st party, again. “Sean” jjbredesen I think that has always been there plan xD But yeah, they need to really work hard to get this working, i think Darkcreap made an excellent point above about what they should do, so instead of me repeating it, check it out. lonewolf The only way nintendo can help is to give them money so if somebody doesnt like you would you give him money to like you? Well he can pretend he likes you but he would never like you. Thomas Vienna Except business practices are not the same as high school. In the end, it’s really about making money and getting your business thrive. tronic307 I don’t think Nintendo likes to moneyhat 3rd party games the way the others do. If anything, they should be moneyhatting Gradius, Castlevania, Contra and Street Fighter. I’m still waiting for Axelay 2! I think one reason could be that they may still see 3rd party developers as competitors. Nintendo doesn’t mind all of the 3rd party games released on their handhelds, it just seems like they want the consoles all to themselves. This problem has an obvious solution, but Nintendo’s business model must change: A unified architecture between handheld and console is a must, to clarify I mean multiple devices of varying capabilities with the same OS, NOT a hybrid. The handheld could function as the console’s GamePad if there’s one at all, and accounts should be unified. Most games would run on both form factors like PC games on Low and Ultra settings, so 3rd party handheld games would also support the home console. Nintendo can’t currently make games fast enough for both Wii U and 3DS; the architectures must merge so all games can run on both. With this solution, Nintendo could offer an attractive multiplatform environment for developers, as traditional multiplatform games fail to prosper on Nintendo home consoles, while unique 3rd party titles do very well on the handhelds. Nintendo can’t expect strong 3rd party console support when their own support for the Wii U is minimal at best. The same drought that put the Wii out to pasture is still in effect. The handheld picture is much rosier and the fact that the handheld and console hardware teams will be working under the same roof very soon, shows that Nintendo likely know that the time has come for a solution similar to the one I’ve outlined above. Next gen I think we’ll see a strong recovery from Nintendo. FutureFox You can bet Nintendo is doing this: “The handheld could function as the console’s GamePad” as part of their Blue Ocean strategy. The gamepad as we see it today will morph into a handheld at a reduced cost because it will also be compatible with the console. darkcreap Well, putting them in the front of the WiiU eShop they do. I have a WiiU and check the eShop at least once a week and when Ubisoft has released games they appear in the front of the eShop for some weeks. In that sense, Nintendo has cared. What they could do: -Give third parties some effort in promoting their games in Nintendo Direct, like they did with ZombiU and Rayman. Sony is said to help third parties in that sense too. -Give help publishing, like they do with Japanese devs in the West. They’ve done that with Platinum and other developers, like Traveler’s Tales. -Outsource the production of certain franchises (I hope they let Platinum a try with Starfox). -Do Spinoffs, like Hyrule Warriors. I think that, while it will not be a big hit it will be refreshing to see a hack and slash Zelda. I think it could also be positive in the sense that by playing Hyrule Warriors Nintendo fans will be more keen on trying other Dinasty Warrior games. Maybe Spinoffs of Nintendo franchises are the way to make Nintendo fans develop a more varied taste. -Get new IPs like The Wonderful 101. That one didn’t succeed, but they can try to improve it or try other IPs. “Sean” jjbredesen Yup, i can’t seem to upvote any comments after my NOA account was banned, so sorry for not being able to upvote you guys :/ I 100% agree that they need to step up there game, and really be devoted to helping 3rd parties. Ice Climbers Don’t forget reviving old IPs. Kid Icarus Uprising is one of the best games on the 3DS, and is honestly one of the freshest games I’ve played in a long time. It sold over a million. Why not do it again for other IPs (StarTropics anyone?)? abe Been saying this for ages. Not buying the “cut” ports was a mistake. To the publishers it only showed there was no fans on Wii U. The game plan should be buy all the third part games. If the game has a third of the content missing buy it new when the price drops to a third off. This sends the right message to publishers. We want games, we will pay full price for full games YogiGRB no, if we bought broken and cut games they would continue to give us those. personally no game over have baked sh*t i choose. abe That’s the attitude that got us here. The publishers just see no sales. Developers check forums, publishers dont If a game is actually broken or rubbish don’t buy but if its just like assassins creed that didn’t get DLC then buy it when its on sale. The publishers need to know there IS a market for third party on Wii U Take sniper elite. It was a reasonable game the Wii u port had most of its content cut. I bought it new for 5.50 from amazon. Its worth that easily. Point is they need to know we do want there game. By buying cut games at cut price and full games at full price. The publishers know we want their games and if its quality we’ll pay YogiGRB but they sell cut games at full price, i bought AC3 and AC4, splinter cell, spiderman, ZombiU even Mass effect3 (owned 1 , 2 and 3 on the play3) which i already had a copy from, Deus ex DC, etc whilst not even mentioning the indie games i already bought …. this is just pure f’ing us over …. just my personal opinion. edit: i left out the nintendo 1st and 2nd party games i own on purpose also, owning all of them up till now on my WiiU abe I haven’t paid full price for a game with cut content, I’ve waited for them to be on sale or price drops. I’ve bought every multiformat title I would of bought on 360 on Wii U instead in order to prop up the numbers. Wasn’t spiderman “complete” with all DLC? I would of bought mass effect trilligy for Wii U if they bothered to release it. Tying the trilogy to sales of 3 was the biggest bs ever Ice Climbers Publishers primarily care about initial sales. If they see that nobody is buying the game with cut content at full price, they will assume there’s no market for their games on Wii U without even taking a peek at sales when the price drops. Buying the game at a later date when it goes on sale doesn’t do anything to sway the minds of publishers. They’d rather see a game that sells extremely well at first and then slows down to a crawl later than a game that sells poorly at first and then sells well when the price drops. abe Its true that’s what they like but they like money too. And the do care about later sails its called the “tail”. Tail sales of Tomb raider put it back in the red. Borderlands sold better AFTER its launch week because word of mouth spread. Two tribes was delighted after the massive boost in sales that reducing their Wii u and 3DS games (earning itself an article on this site) tail sales are pokemon, animal crossing, Mario, monster hunter, pheonix Wight, professor Layton bread and butter. Activision use DLC yo further milk there customers but to also increase tail sales. In the UK on the run up to Christmas Ga!e stores have weekly sales where brand new ga!es go half price. The us has black Friday and cyber Monday where new games go cheap. Amazon is always doing flash sales Even if my system doesn’t work let’s say both my system and boycotting both didn’t work. My way you have things to play on Wii U, things that you bought at a price you think the content provided was worth. The other way you have a small handful of titles Boycotting cut titles dose not work when it is all we get full 1st party, poor selling 3rd part exclusives, cut third party games andinfrequent download titles because all it says is Nintendo fans only buy Nintendo games. sd Yes I agree. I supported them before they cut features. After that i just either stopped buying their games or bought the game on another console. Gabe Hoffman We want non gimped games with all features as the other versions we will not pay full price for a half baked port there I fixed it for ya sd When the Wii U first came out I bought almost every game by Ubisoft along with batman and a heap of other third party games. Then they started to make cuts to the games and features so I stopped buying from them. Its that simple. I showed my support and they made cutbacks. If they want their games to sell they need the same features as on other consoles. They also need release dates to be the same. As a multi-platform owner why would I wait for the Wii U game of watchdogs for example. Sure it will have some sort of game pad integration, but the release date is much later and the graphic will definitely not be as good. Daniel Carvalho Nice post! Someone has to slap a bit of reality into Nintendo’s higher ups’ faces! I still don’t have a Wii U, but I do plan on getting ZombiU, Child of Light and Rayman Legends when I get the console. “Sean” jjbredesen As the former drunken head of Nintendo PR i can assure you that we will have hundreds of unfinished 3rd party 8bit indie games at E3 😀 Officer Raichu im gonna get rayman when i get my wii u soon(with pikmin 3) Gabe Hoffman Q; Why don’t Wii U owners buy third party games? A; Because most of the time the Wii U version is likely to half assed be with missing features and cut content You can’t put out a second rate inferior product at a premium price and expect it to sell Daniel Gonzalez That’s also a flawed reason since there will be times when there are games that aren’t “half assed.” That kind of logic, doesn’t help the Wii U’s situation. Quite counterproductive no matter how you look at it. Gabe Hoffman True but when the majority of the games are half assed then people assume every third party game on Wii U is a half baked version. Nintendo versions are usually seen as the lesser versions for a reason perception you know Daniel Gonzalez I agree. Though, this has been a problem since the N64. All Nintendo fans had to look forward to was mostly Nintendo games. As time went on, this has become the norm for Nintendo consoles and fans became conditioned that only Nintendo games are top quality and third party games are products of the devil. Of course, quality is based on opinion alone, so I won’t go deep into that, but this a huge problem right now that Nintendo can’t break free from. I don’t know what Nintendo intends on doing to end this belief, but I don’t think much can be done this generation unfortunately. Rinslowe True most of the multiplat titles available even from Ubisoft are either half assed or gimped to begin with compared to the competition. And I have almost nearly all of Ubi’s multiplat titles from last 18 months on both PC and Wii U. But even if they weren’t lacking in some way, I think getting a wide audience reception on Nintendo home consoles today – wouldn’t be a walk in the park. It’s a strange dynamic of a twisted catch 22 in play. And the answer is anyone’s guess on how Nintendo reverses that. Officer Raichu I actually loved buying madden games on nintendo consoles(loved motion control with it and of course gamecube controller was a beast) i just wish nintendo and EA could like make up and get battlefield(if EA wasnt so impatient) madden, fifa, mass effect, even stinking titanfall the point is i think nintendo needs to be more open like help advertise the 3rd parties, get exclusive ones, have special dlc for them and spam it everywhere but Iwata still lives in the 90s and thinks he can take care of it by himself when he cant so i end in saying daniel i agree with you (but im still getting a wii u to play mk8 XD) Daniel Gonzalez I’ll eventually play MK8. Hope you enjoy it. 🙂 Officer Raichu why ty hope you enjoy when you eventually play it toi 😀 ETMew2348 sorry i don’t buy games for the sole purpose of paying for the devs water bill i buy games that are fun and if Wii u already has games that i like (sonic: lost world, zelda : ww and mk8) then im okay with what i have =) “Sean” jjbredesen I am totally down with that, if the games are good and you want more from the dev buy them, and if they such don’t buy them. My point was: If you enjoy a game, then buy it, if you don’t then don’t complain about there being no games. But since you have games that you enjoy then there is no reason for you to buy a Ubi game ETMew2348 OHHH sorry =D MetroidZero Same applies to EA. “Sean” jjbredesen Yeah, but you do not buy EA games, only Mass Effect. Period. People that buy EA games every year are destroying this industry. I have bought Mass Effect 1,2 and 3 and nothing else. MetroidZero LOL! Yeah. But I also bought Battlefield 3 and 4. And Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2, and the Mass Effect Trilogy, and Dead Space, and the Sims 3, Crysis 1, and… *Hides behind a bush* “Sean” jjbredesen I am sorry that you had to experience that 🙁 Ice Climbers Star Wars Battlefront. No further explanation needed. “Sean” jjbredesen Ok, so perhaps there are some games, but not the yearly games xD darkcreap Too bad. Very bad news indeed. Less variety in the WiiU. Daniel Gonzalez Less third party on the WiiU anyways. It’s a shame. Had high hopes for the WiiU and its third party issues. Should have known better. Lol. “Sean” jjbredesen Reggie: “We are about to release a tremendously powerful system, witch will have both great 1st and 3rd party content.” Daniel Gonzalez Nintendo Screws U? “Sean” jjbredesen This is the type of article that needs Iwata and Reggie accounts :/ Daniel Gonzalez I know right? It’s a shame. It’s also why I don’t visit the site as often now. It’s become a stick in the mud. Lol. So I took Iwata where he’s better received. “Sean” jjbredesen If you have a site i would be intersted in taking my account there to 😀 Daniel Gonzalez Still looking for a site that really stands out, but I’ll keep you posted. 🙂 “Sean” jjbredesen Thanks 😀 thedeciderU me: “let’s talk in 2017, reg.” Roadkill409 I hope Nintendo has deep resources and thick skin. Because I was a big fan of Sega in their heyday. It was hard to watch as they went down. I know Sega made some huge mistakes. But 3rd party pull out was a big factor. I know Nintendo is not Sega by any stretch of the imagination, but growing up in the 80’s and 90’s it is hard to see Nintendo losing 3rd party support like it is. But I will have faith (as misplaced as it might be) that Nintendo knows what they are doing. Roadkill409 After reading the list of games, I know that I most likely won’t buy or play many of those games. Rayman being the only one I would buy. Maybe this is why I gravitate to the Nintendo systems in the first place. Over the years I have found that my tastes have changed. I prefer to play or watch less violent games/movies. Call me getting soft, but if I am going to put images in front of me I have found that I prefer images like Mario Kart and I find that I am playing less and less games where the main goal is how well can I put a bullet in someone’s head. Maybe because I have seen/read too many people come back from war and somehow the “games” are not that appealing anymore. Maybe it is because I have kids. Although I would not suggest companies stop making them, people still playing them. I understand the draw and challenge. But Trust me, I would much rather people blow digital people up than do it in real life. I can always reset a game. Ultrasyd Not surprising at all, but yet very sad (I am). I’m looking forward to the Division. thedeciderU nintendo needs to blow our minds at e3, and stand up and fight for itself. iwata is fucking it all up, and his executive decisions not to try and herd third party support make him more of a joke. i’m not saying his job is easy, but besides the recent mario kart 8 advertisement, what the hell has he led nintendo to do since last year? it’s pretty clear at this point in time that nintendo doesn’t even believe in the wiiu. i will be upset if i only buy a few more titles for the console before it’s dead. lonewolf Mario kart 8 commercials are great. Santiago Perhaps he meant, no exclusive games? Mario Oh crud. Not this again. jhell Why UBI Andres Alfonso Ubisoft won’t be showing games for the Wii U at E3. Which does not mean at all that they are not making any new games for the Wii U. It just means they are not showing any right now. And it also does not mean they will not support the Wii U on other projects. It’s just the media talking rubbish greengecko007 It does seem like a lot of people are jumping the gun here… The short quote from the article could mean several things. Allvalve I personally think UBI will find that they are more likely to get burned with the XboxOne, so might well come back to the Wii U later on. Ultimately the XBoxOne is a slightly more expensive and slightly less powerful PS4, so I think of the 3 machines that is the one that makes the least sense. If you want power, the PS4 is a no brainer, and I think its a given that you’ll most likely see a PS4 and a Wii U in a gaming rack as that gives you the best of both worlds. PS4 will win this generation looking at the current trend, but as soon as the Wii U hits the £150 price point (with a game) it’ll sell well as a second console. That doesn’t leave a lot of room for the XBoxOne. Brandon Actually, the xbox one version of games sell well, a lot better then the wii u versions. Ps4 and xbox one are good primary consoles and the wii u is a good secondary consoe to both. With the price cut of the xbox, it most likly will surpass wii u in sales. Shy_Guy So..no new Just Dance game to show at E3? Lil J Moore Thank god Ace J i’m not surprised by this news at all. did anyone else see this coming? i can’t be the only one that did. WiiUPS4 I saw it coming but Ubi is not that great anyways YogiGRB Dear Ubisoft …… F U … guess i gotta start treating you as i treat EA …. NOT GIVING YOU ANY MORE OF MY MONEY 😀 …. it was fun while it lasted WiiUPS4 They don’t care..Losing a few people is not a loss to them Viktor Araujo Yea, nothing like alienating 6 million potential users. Child of Light is on the Top of eShop charts since its release. Valiant Hearts sure had a market there. WiiUPS4 I didn’t like child of light but if they would have released all the games they did for the 360 and ps3 they would have sold better it’s their loss YogiGRB i know, to bad they don’t care about people who bought every single game they have ever released … this gen i’m going one console only (the WiiU) cause the one and four are no considered upgrade compared to old gen matthew garcia Nah they will just start primarily developing there games for ps4 where they will have much more sales WiiUPS4 Not really going to help at this point Blue Hernandez Y tu Ubi….. Frankie I guess now people will see that Ubisoft never supported the Wii U. Zombi U was an unfinished game that needed another couple of months. Ubisoft has been screwing Nintendo over for years, look at Red Steel. Ubisoft makes overrated games anyway. J_Joestar look at how they were fine with delaying a completed Rayman Legends at the time the Wii U Really needed it, yet they are launching every watchdogs version except for the Wii U one because they put it on the back burner to finish the others first. Frankie They delayed it because Microsoft has companies sign a contract stating a game cannot release on another system before the Xbox. It has to be at the same time. Yen It’s still their decision to enter that contract in the first place. They chose to make deals to port Rayman Legends and delayed the Wii U version when it really needed it. Then came out to say Wii U sales were below expectation. That killed a lot of credibility for Ubisoft for me. Frankie You are right, but that contract was signed a long time ago. Choosing to port it meant they had to wait. Ubisoft has been making overrated games for years. Ice Climbers Yet Tecmo Koei ignored that policy with Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor’s Edge, which came out on Wii U before it did on Xbox 360. Rinslowe Delaying the game when it was finished was a really crappy move on Ubi’s behalf. And didn’t go down too well with the team that made it… Delaying the Wii U version of Watchdogs while unwittingly stating; now the other versions were complete, they would be focusing on the Wii U version. Was again a really dumb move by Ubi. It’s clear that the platform is not a priority for them overall. John Andalora Nintendo is really gonna have to blow peoples minds this year. I hate to say that. I really do. But this is an extremely big problem. For those of you stating that “Just because they aren’t showing Nintendo games doesn’t mean they aren’t making Nintendo games,” I appreciate the optimism but I can’t agree. Why wouldn’t you use one of the biggest conferences of the year to boost your games on a console that needs exposure? I really hope that Nintendo can show people why to buy a Wii U. But if it’s the same things we’ve already seen, then I don’t think the Wii U will recover. Officer Raichu well nintendo did say that they are going to show games that just started being developed so that means we might see 3-5 brand new surprising games matthew garcia One of those games is probably cooking mama u lol Officer Raichu nah they only put those games usually on handhelds and one just came out like 2 months ago Ice Climbers That Cooking Mama got rated E10+ for an alcohol reference apparently. Officer Raichu oh O_O thats not meant for children then (maybe theyll make the wii u one(if they do)get drunk and make it rated M) XD Ice Climbers I’m not sure the Wii U can recover either way. Unlike the PS3 and the 3DS, the Wii U doesn’t have a predecessor that had a positive market reception that can allow it to recover. At this point people just simply don’t care about Nintendo’s home consoles. Lil J Moore I guess this means we’re not getting Watchdogs then. Paks Uhh. I like AC4; I like Child of Light, I play Pure Chess and I like Ubi games. I also like Nintendo games, but I want to play different games, not only Nintendo ones. I am really starting to regret buying Wii U, because I want more variety and there is none. If I can’t see more 3’rd party support in future then Wii U is last Nintendo home console I bought (there are variety in 3DS). And I know lot’s of people (ok couple friends) who think the same. Christian Schoff No one will miss you, oh blind one. Paks I know. I am just sad that Nintendo won’t miss me. But right now Wii U is my only home console. Still I am sad that Nintendo won’t miss me as I have given em money for 2 x Wii; 1 x Wii U; 3 x DSi and 3 x 3DS. Also – lot’s of games. Christian Schoff No I meant that we won’t miss you because you are completely wrong about the amount of variety. Brandon No he’s not. The Clockwork Being If you only have money for one console and you want 3rd party games buy a PS4. If you really love Nintendo keep the Wii U. I’ll be buying both the PS4 and Wii U. Honestly if you think this is the Gamecube Era where the 3rd party support is huge and the NIntendo exclusives are numerous then you are dead wrong. Gabe Hoffman My problem with this statement is that its incredibly vague. We don’t know if they are referring to multiplats or exclusives. Remember Ubisoft said they would not make any more exclusives until sales improved. Just because they have nothing to show doesn’t mean they are not developing for Wii u anymore Rinslowe The difficulties for third parties to invest in Nintendo home consoles and for their home console owners to invest in third parties is a complex cycle. There’s likely no easy fix. And I’m almost certain will make an interesting book one day… But on topic, It’s a sad thing to see Ubisoft showing waning support for the Wii U. One of the platforms most consistent third party supporters. The platforms future is never a boring topic is it… Rygar I bought AC3 when the Wii U launched. Couldn’t bring myself to finish it and eventually traded it in. I bought Splinter Cell when it was $20 on Groupon and after finding several glitches within the first few hours I gave up. Also, the game was boring. Rayman was good. Child of Light is good (but overrated I think). I don’t think I’ll miss Ubi too much. matt I wont need Ubi with all the exclusive games on wiiu so not bothered there games like EA’s are just yearly rehashes basically in 2017 you will still get the same games with small advances I’m getting bored and I’m actually glad WiiU won’t be flooded with the same crap i much prefer to play games that are exclusive mainly due to the love that gets poured into development when they only have to concentrate on 1 platform so games like,Bayonetta2,X,MK8,Smash4,HyruleWarriors,SonicBOOM,FastRacingNeo,ProjectCARS,ect all these games are out this year and I’m buying all 8 and what ever else comes up and to think 4 of these have strong online i won’t have time this year for that Multiplat crap they have to spread their resources to far and all the underhand payments for exclusive content and worse not interested. I listed Project CARS because i think with the freedom of crowd funding they can polish every version so i know it’s not exclusive but it’s had love poured into it and these are the games I’m interested in. Brandon Despite what you think about third parties, the wii u needs them, not entirly, but still would like to see the games show up. Im not complaining, I have a ps4 as my primary gaming console. JB At least we still have Watch Dogs? Maybe? “Sean” Dimitra Giorgiou i hope they lose a lot of money for delaying watch dogs until may and on wii u for even further. Let’s hope mk8 will destroy it with a lot more sales! Petri It would be mildly disappointing if BG&E 2 skipped the Wii U. The first one was one of the reasons I loved my GameCube. Stephen Macneil Third party is dead on the Wii U, this isn’t surprising. McBlink As much as I can’t stand Microsoft, I have to say I’m impressed with how they have rebounded on their policies and are doing what needs to be done to get consoles in the hands of the consumers. Nintendo just doesn’t seem to give a crap and seem completely resistant to making any changes. Color me not surprised by this and as a Nintendo fan, it’s incredibly frustrating. Yen The policies Microsoft changed were serious issues that people are concerned about if they have an Xbox One in their home. The biggest complaints for Nintendo seems to be Wii U not being powerful enough or Iwata needs to go. I don’t think this is a fair comparison. McBlink Sure it is. Sales are terrible for the Xboxone just like the sales for the WiiU are terrible. One company is doing something about it while the other is not. Microsoft has been reacting to the competition (Sony) since E3 2013. Nintendo seems to not care about the competition. Yen Which policy change are you talking about? A lot of them were changed before Xbox One was released such as the DRM stuff. That means the terrible sale is different than what it would have been if they didn’t change their policy. What has Microsoft done about it really? They’re releasing a cheaper Xbox One without the Kinect soon, basically taking away the biggest thing other than games that sets it apart from the PS4. At least Nintendo stands by their product and wants to make it work rather than giving up on it. I would lose a lot of respect for Nintendo if they start selling Wii Us without Gamepads. Even if they did, I don’t think that will help sales any, what matters is having good games and good experiences. McBlink Maybe I should have been more specific in my first post by saying preorders rather than sales. Compared to the PS4 they were terrible and the outcry from a lot of people made them drop most of their policies. Before or after it was launched doesn’t matter, my point its they are making changes because they want to move units. What has Nintendo done? “At least Nintendo stands by their product and wants to make it work rather than giving up on it” So you would rather them go down with the ship then make the necessary repairs? Yen No, but I see all that as quick patches that doesn’t fix the real problem. You can make changes and move a few more units for a while, but it’ll go back down if that’s all you do. Like how Nintendo expected 3D World and Tropical Freeze to boost sales. They did, but only for a while. Instead of wasting time making cheap sales pitches, I rather they focus on making great games, release them on a constant schedule. That’s how Nintendo is fixing this, at least that’s how I see it. But it takes time to do that, so it seems like they aren’t doing anything. Rinslowe I think their marketing with Kart has been a positive step in the right direction. I mean as far as exposure goes the game is well hyped and for good reason. But perhaps most recently with commercials having been run before Godzilla in the states, well that was a pretty smart idea. Seeing as though the movie has had a lot of interest in itself. That to me is a sign that Nintendo does want to make changes in order to make money. But it’s always going to be baby steps with them… http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-27467226 http://playeressence.com/mario-kart-8-trailers-being-aired-before-godzilla-in-movie-theaters/ Officer Raichu 560000 preorders in 1 week almost as much as titansfall’s final weeks of preorders mk8 might go big Ace J no the biggest complaint nintendo has is it doesn’t have any 3rd party support and nintendo doesn’t seem to care. the wii u will be my last nintendo console. Yen That is certainly one of them. Let me ask you, what do you propose they do? Bring a suitcase full of cash to 3rd parties and beg? I’m sure that’s what everyone wants Nintendo to do but that would be stupid. Nintendo did get 3rd party support and 3rd parties backed out. Begging and offering cash is what 3rd parties want them to do and they don’t deserve it. If 3rd parties don’t want to make a game for a system it’s their choice, Nintendo can influence them with connections but they need to get their own games out and build up their system first. 3rd parties will come back when they see improvement. leo Nintendo seems hell bent on not changing there ways which WILL KILL them Ice Climbers Iwata has said numerous times in investor briefings that the company has to change. They do want to change. Problem is, people are expecting them to change overnight. These changes take time. We’re already starting to see some of them though. Nintendo dropping the price of 5 of the best selling games on the 3DS so soon when Nintendo games usually remain full price for several years (Diamond/Pearl were still full price 6 years later) is proof of this. Or how about the FREE Wii U game with Mario Kart 8? Or the FREE copy of Pokemon X/Y back in March, which they plan on doing again in June in Japan. Iwata knows that the video game industry is unstable, and that if they want to survive, they have to expand to other areas, which is where the QoL thing comes in. Guest this is what kinds want Denvy Given the install base and Nintendo’s own predictions for the next year, I can completely understand why they and other companies do not wish to develop for the Wii U. It’s unfortunate, but if they don’t stand to make enough money to justify it, what do we expect? themizarkshow Poor sales and a lack of clear messaging is what really did in third-party support this time around for Nintendo. The WiiU is a great device, but the gamepad is useless in most games and the public thinks of it as a joke. You can change the former pretty easily, but the latter is much harder to fix. I expect we will see most major publishers back away from WiiU completely on multiplatform titles and seriously cut back any WiiU specific titles (if any still exist). Its officially a secondary console to most gamers; something for first-party games and indies. leo Nintendo barely advertised the damn consoles….idiots. mac Nintendo does not need to Ubisoft, EA, let them put their trash on the PS4 / XBO Their ports are crap! Paks Mhmh. PS4 is doing great (by the news) and Wii U is struggling a littlebit. Less games might result less consoles sold, what might result less profit to Nintendo and etc. Nintendo needs to make money you know and they are … kinda in loosing side last years. Something is wrong. leo really wow? Mass effect 4 is crap? Batman Arkham Knight is crap? Crysis 3 is crap? Watchdogs is crap? Seriously people get butthurt to much. Like you mate. MujuraNoKamen Cue all the “we don’t need 3rd parties” comments. This is really disapointing news, Ubisoft have really tried with Wii U and their support outlasted any other big publishers. Now they’re gone so we don’t stand a chance of getting Zombi2 or any more big franchise games from them. Yes Nintendo might decide to finally release some big games for Wii U but the library would look a lot better with outside support. Petri I used to think they way you are thinking. But in the end, all they did was “try”. Hate to say this, but in port optimization, Call of Duty beats Ubisoft ports 10 to 0. Rayman was the only solid game from them for Wii U, but then again, that game was build from the ground up and screwed over with a 6 months delay. MujuraNoKamen The CoD games on Wii U were good ports but no one bought them 🙁 Had games sold better early on in Wii U’s life Rayman might have remained an exclusive or at least not suffered the delay. Ubisoft have continued to work really hard on Wii U, Ac3 sold badly here but they still bought us AC4 which was a better game and a great port despite what Nintendo fanboys think. Petri Well, the way I see it, most of the gamers that has a Wii U, has another console or PC, and there really has not been such multiplatform game that would have had the incentive to buy for Wii U, quite the contrary in most cases. I’m not a fan of any console, nor I’m really a graphics whore, but AC games on Wii U has serious framerate drops. 30fps dropping to below 20 is more noticeable, than 60fps dropping to 40. You could argue, how it was a (smart) business decisions by Ubisoft delaying games for the console, but I just call it hypocrisy. leo All these people spewing that bullshit don’t even understand a console can’t survive on just 1st party. mac do you not enough games coming to Wii U, who says, does not have to be joking! S.M.W 3D, Pikmin 3, M.K.8, SSB Wii U, Star Fox Wii U, Zelda Wii U, Mario parti Wii U, D.C.R.t.f., W101, B2, X, Hyrule Warriors, Pokemon battle Wii U etc….. Petri Well, all I really need is Bayonetta 2. Thats really the only reason I have a Wii U right now. Noah Sonic Boom baby 00EpicGamer00 I knew this was going to happen. I just knew it. But, in all honesty, it was pretty obvious this was going to happen. All of Ubiosft’s games that was on Wii U, sold horrible. Ubisoft is making a smart business decision by backing out. Why keep making games on a console that’s not bringing you in any profit? Think about it, if Ubisoft kept making games for Wii U, and each one of them continued selling at a loss, Ubisoft would be out of business, or close to it. Some of you might be angry about this decision, heck, some of you are in complete denile. But, you can’t say Ubisoft made the wrong decision. I’m grateful to of had Ubisoft work on the Wii U. I respect all their hard work and dedication. It was a great run Ubisoft. 🙂 Maybe in the future, IF the Wii U has a bigger instal base, we’ll see some of Ubi’s games back on the Wii U. Steve Rees Couldn’t have said that better myself mate! Fair play to you and Ubisoft. 00EpicGamer00 Thank you. 🙂 I’m actually surprised I’ve received a polite response. I was expecting someone going “you’re so stupid!” “You’re so wrong!” “Ubisoft sucks!” Good to see there’s people on this site with a good head on their shoulders. 🙂 bistricky I am also grateful for all the games UbiSoft made for the Wii U. I have almost all of them in my collection and enjoy them. Not quite sure why they seem to have sold horribly …… everyone I know that owns a Wii U seems to have a stack of UbiSoft games in their collection also. And it seems most that post here online have at least a few of their games. For this reason, it confuses me how many of their games apparently sold poorly. Heck, if Child Of Light was sold in a physical format, I know I would have bought that game also. I am with you, and hope Ubi;s games return in the future for the Wii U. Shane Michaels Who needs em? http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/198k6yu8idsiqgif/ku-xlarge.gif Lil J Moore O.o What the…………….. Rinslowe Can’t say I’ve ever come across that on the Pc or Wii U version, but yesterday I fell through a waterfall in Kingston and ended up below the town… (Wii U ver). This is the usual thing with open world games in general these days though. Oblivion back in the day on 360 almost drove me mad. WT Herrod Jr. I got stuck inside a fir tree while on horseback in the Frontier area playing AC3 one night. And in Boston I came across a horseless cart embedded in the front of a building. The driver was just chilling on the bench and then the cart started zooming around in circles faster than I could keep up while turning and watching. Games are buggy but I enjoy them… Rinslowe Yeah. AC3 on all platforms has it’s moments of interesting glitches. 🙂 00EpicGamer00 I remember one time in AC3 I was in the frontier area, messing around. I came across these guards, I fought them, but one of the guards froze. I walked up to him and I was able to completely walk right through him. After I walked through him, my game crashed. Literally, the entire game and console locked up. I had to unplug it to turn it off. Oh, and I remember one time I was in some sort of town, and I got my horse stuck on a fence. He kept sliding from one side of the fence to the other. And I fell through the entire map one time. WT Herrod Jr. Haha, reminds me of a guard I ganked, ran off down the road and when I came back his body was still slumped at the corner of a barn. Then I heard a voice start yelling at me like a redcoat and entered open conflict. The corpse was somehow able to still see and talk to me. Have yet to fall through the map though. 00EpicGamer00 Yeah, the area where I fell through the map was right next to a barn. Along the outside of it, there was a tiny piece of the ground that wasn’t coded, and I fell through. It was textured, but it wasn’t coded to where I could stand on it. greengecko007 Interesting, I’ve never had any problems with AC3 or 4 on my Wii U. “This is the usual thing with open world games in general these days though. Oblivion back in the day on 360 almost drove me mad…” Yeah, I’ve fallen through some city maps in Skyrim 2 or 3 times. It’s definitely not a platform exclusive glitch. Rinslowe Wow. I played AC3 on all platforms since it’s release and they all have had their fair share of glitches. On the Wii U version in the frontier I took a leap of faith from a cliff and ended up floating. I could push forward and back at the same height as I jumped off so could fly around the area almost like super man. Good times. It’s just one of those things that came with the package, despite platform. Like Skyrim when it first released I could totally overlook the glitches due to the game being that interesting regardless. If the game is great, these technical glitches are bearable. I can understand that it’s not easy to make something perfect considering the scope. So long as they patch it at some stage if the glitch is bad enough. Thankfully after about 50hrs or more in AC4 all up, only minor bugs have been present Mostly interesting and nothing game breaking. That pic up there all I had to do was swim out to the shoreline and press A on a small landing boat to return to the Jackdaw and everything loaded properly after that… greengecko007 The only hiccups I’ve had were in AC4, with Edward still trying to put his hood on while wearing outfits that didn’t have one, which is more of an oversight than a glitch. Rinslowe I’ve never noticed. 🙂 On none of the versions I’ve played; PC and Wii U did I care about the outfits enough to try anything that wasn’t like an Assassins outfit. Tried the Sir something or rather armour recently, but only for a few seconds before switching back. I prefer the Pirate Captain version with Black and Red. The templar outfit was the only one I chased, mainly because of the missions. But wasn’t too impressed with that look either. 🙂 greengecko007 I used the templar armor for a bit, but I was slightly put off by how he kept trying to put his hood up, so I ended up just going back to the pirate captain armor for most of the game. The mayan armor is really cool though, and easily my favorite, though it also lacks a hood. Rinslowe You think so?… I skimmed past it on the first playthrough and just thought, nah. But in all honesty, I never tried it out to know either way. I’ll have a look and see what I was missing. 🙂 greengecko007 Nah, it’s nothing like that. You get the Mayan armor in Tulum once you collect of the mayan keystones, which I actually found to be pretty fun. The keystones are all in places where there are other things to do. Rinslowe Yeah, I’ve collected all the stones but didn’t notice the armour available. Looks like I’m going Amazon today then… 🙂 Sam Well no one was going to pay any attention to them at E3 anyways, with Smash, ZeldaU, and the other hyped games. AlienFanatic I said it when Watch Dogs was delayed: it’s never coming to the Wii-U. If it were, they’d be showing something at E3. Ubisoft’s development for the Wii-U appears to be effectively over. Not terribly shocking. CydeFxt i thought they were gonna show something about Watchdogs…..I guess it’s safe to say that Watchdogs for wii u is the last game coming from Ubisoft. It’s a shame. Alexander Kleinwechter Im gonna be arrogant and say i couldnt care less,i pre ordered, mario kart 8, super smash bros Wii u, super smash bros 3DS, hyrule warrios, monolith X, bayonetta 2. Pokemon omega ruby. and i guess i wait for nintnedo to reveal there next zelda game at E3 so i can pre-order it too. Soo im preatty much all set. and the ubisoft games are decent, watch dogs looks cool, but doesnt appeal me, child of light looks beautiful, but not really gonna spend money on it, and rayman legend was fun, but donkey kong country tropical freeze was much better. anthony optimo Ubisoft has a right to release sub 850p 30fps games on the PS4 and XB1. matthew garcia Thing is if they use the same graphic quality the ps4 uses on Wii u it will run even worse 850p and 30fps. anthony optimo Cool story Gabe Hoffman I’ll just leave this here http://www.gonintendo.com/s/228951-ubisoft-says-watch-dogs-for-wii-u-could-possibly-be-at-e3-2014-may-learn-release-date-info ben Reply, it isnt there. THe reason this story broke is because the Nintendo only Journalists asked Ubi for interview time at E3 and Ubisoft said, they dont have anything for nintendo, no 3ds no wii u. Gabe Hoffman That could mean anything really. They might have been referring to exclusives. janco tianno Well… I’ve bought AC4, Splinter Cell Blacklist, and probably I’m gonna buy Watch Dogs… and Child of Light too…so… it’s not good news for me… Their games were great, and I hope to see more of their ports on Wii U in the future. And about watch dogs… I really think they will at least wait for one month after MK8 release. CaptRodgers That sucks, but unless they’re releasing a new rayman or watch dogs it doesn’t personally bother me too much. Assassins creed was once one of my favorite franchises, but 3 left a sore taste in my mouth, although 4 has been much better. Sad thing is ubi is one of the publisher I’ve bought third party from on wii u, but so long as Nintendo plans on pumping out more games I’ll bE satisfied, until I can get a ps4 or better computer bizzy gie Ubisoft, why Ubi so hard on Nintendo? JK. This news is Nintendo’s fault not Ubisoft’s. They did more than any other 3rd party dev and now their hands are tied as a corporation. There’s currently no money to be made on Wii U. Nintendo needs to rework most of their strategy and wake up to 2014. Get some sharp, new fresh young blood in there. The heads there now are oblivious. Decker Shado I still wonder how it’s Nintendo’s fault that 3rd parties release late, poorly optimized ports with missing features at full price. You’re right that Ubi has done more than any other 3rd party, but when you think of how phoned in their support really has been, I find that sad, really… and when they’re the shining example of the “best” supporter, it’s hard to say it’s Nintendo’s fault. bizzy gie I’m not regarding other third parties. Just Ubisoft. Rayman Legends was originally an exclusive and while not anymore, still superior to other versions. ZombiU was a launch exclusive on Wii U. Ubi gave equal ports to Wii U. They’re currently EXCLUSIVELY developing Watch_Dogs for Wii U while others would have never even tried. Yes, this is NINTENDO’S fault NOT Ubisoft’s. Nintendo isn’t always the victim. Decker Shado Rayman Legends was delayed for 6 months, despite being ready to ship. Zombi U sold very damn well, but Ubi has publicly stated they have no plans for a sequel as it did not make a profit… which to anyone who knows math, means either Ubi is shit at budgeting games, or are lying. Splinter Cell Blacklist was missing local co-op on the WIi U version only. Most Ubi games have “Over an hour of exclusive content!” …on Playstation systems. True, they haven’t fucked over the Nintendo ports as badly as other companies, but they still have. At this point, I doubt Watch_Dogs will even come out for Wii U. No matter what, it won’t sell well – that’s a given because of the delay. You’ve got two options here. One, it’s a fantastic game and everyone who wants it goes out and buys it while it’s still not available for Wii U. Probably getting the Playstation version, for that hour they can’t get anywhere else. Two, it underperforms and in the lovely online world of “5 stars, or 0” it’s regarded as a flop immediately, and when it reaches the Wii U again nobody cares. Even if it does make it, by the time the Wii U version would be out, there would be steam sales for Watch_Dogs for $20. You know damn well they’d launch it at $60 on Wii U anyway. What I’d really love from those who insist this treatment by 3rd parties is “Nintendo’s fault” is an explanation as to what the fuck Nintendo is doing that is causing this. Give examples of other game companies who are given the shaft this badly, and at least some correlations of the business practices between the two. Just saying “It’s Nintendo’s fault!” doesn’t cut it without explaining how the hell Nintendo has this strange power over the conduct of others, and strangely uses it for evil against themselves. The way I saw it, 3rd parties are just looking to not lose money and as such release gimped ports to save a buck on the development… but oddly enough, gamers aren’t as stupid as they assume. Ubi again, is not as bad as most in this regard – but they’re still guilty of it. And Ubi’s behavior is not the fault of Nintendo. bizzy gie ZombiU sold well for a Wii U game. Right now, there are only 6 million Wii Us on the market. At launch, less than half that. At best, ZombiU sold a few hundred thousand which while good for Nintendo is still bad in general. Only AC4 and Watch_Dogs have an hour of exclusive content. Ubisoft is trying to utilize the GamePad well in more than just off-t.v. play. I give them ridiculous props for that because that’s something Nintendo currently isn’t doing. If that requires a bit of a wait, then so be it. Let the game actually release first then judge it. Again, I’m only regarding Ubisoft. Not other 3rd parties. Petri Zombi U has sold over half a million. And if that did not bring this garage project any profits, someone fucked up somewhere. It was a fine game, but amount of bugs and glitches made Bethesda envious. bizzy gie Apparantly, they must have spent much more money than they made on that game. Either way, they continued to support Wii U for over a year longer and now they’re pulling the plug. I’m sure they’ll be the fist to come back when Wii U is profitable. MujuraNoKamen 3rd parties who release late crappy ports can get lost but Rayman Legends, Assassin’s Creed etc were great ports. Watch Dogs sets to a be a great one too but no one will support it however hard they try because Mario isn’t in it. boynhisblobs This is too bad because Ubisoft actually makes good games. EA i could care less about, but not Ubisoft. I know everyone is saying, “I really hope Nintendo can turn this around”, but that’s BS. Maybe the media can stop the continued bashing of the Wii U as under powered and last generation. It’s not last generation because it’s Nintendo’s new machine, period. Sure, the tech is not gonna blow anything out of the water, but it’s still pretty powerful under the hood. It’s like the PS4 and XboxOne are both sports cars and the Wii U is a gas efficient Sadan. It’s not trying to be a sports car, never said it was, never acted like it. Yet the media is bashing it for not acting like one. It’s just a shame really, because if it got more pieces on how the Wii U bridges the gap in gaming between kids and adults it might actually sell. anthony optimo Yea, it’s frustrating, nice points though. The only way for Nintendo to get rid of the Underpowered Wii U stigma is to continue releasing stellar games like Mario Kart that show off its ponies under the hood. If Nintendo continues to do that, every game will be a cold backhand to those who bashed the Wii U’s graphical potential. Glitch/Bug Free Gaming Movement 2014 ben It really has little to do with the underpower thing. I even doubt it has much to do with sales. There are probably a lot of inside politics we just dont know about. anthony optimo I’ve been thinking something like that must be going on. Video game companies are probably tired of Nintendo’s deep pockets. ben I think American third parties think Nintendo should pay for their games to appear on a Nintendo console. The issues with ‘Need for speed most wanted U’ made me think that the western third parties are trying to bend Nintendo over, however, Nintendo again are refusing to be bullied. Instead Nintendo have retreated back to Japan and are not playing the EA, Ubi game. anthony optimo Respect. Glad they aren’t letting themselves be pushed around. leo so the wii u is a Mustang and the others are mclaren f1’s right? anthony optimo The Xb1 is a Mustang, the PS4 is a Lexus IS, and the Wii U is Honda CBR500R. Edit: Gaming PC’s are the Mclarens of the gaming world. Bob Charlie I own six of your games on my Wii U and am planning on getting Watch Dogs, Ubisoft! What more do you want?! DragonSilths Ubifail is gone, HURRAY, get out and stay out. I saw through your fake smile since day one. Purple Ubisoft has been going down hill since they started Assassins Creed. They were good back in the day. They peaked with Prince of Persia. I love that series. If they start making prince of persia games again ill be disappointed they wont be on Wii U. I guess Far Cry is fun too. I liked the Wii version. I hate that nintendo isnt getting any 3rd party support. Its not the consumer s fault I know that. Peoples views are too skewed. Nintendo needs to make something that everyone wants to buy. If people dont buy and vote with their dollars then it just wasnt good enough to convince the majority. In most cases anyway. RockD79 I guess that means there’s no new Just Dance game coming out in the fall either? ewart Only interesting ubi game is released end 2015. To far away to care. I hope they go back to small innovative games. That suits wiiu Shaise Well, Nintendo had the time to work this out. leo There really fucking stupid. They NEED new management get that quack Iwata out. ActivesiN is anyone actually surprised by this?, Ubisoft has given a lot of support to Nintendo, none of the games sell well other than maybe ZombiU ben Ubisoft are crazy. No support for the 3DS? I mean.. the biggest selling handheld console on the planet and they are making nothing? Ubi could be a company about to lose a lot of money. They are spending a lot on the next ASScreed, which is only releasing on xbox one, ps4, and pc. Asscreed ships a lot, however, that was on last gen, when the install base was huge. Are PS3 and Xbox 360 owners really going to buy a sub-par asscomet? WT Herrod Jr. As I have picked up a few Ubi games (on sale) that I haven’t had time to even play yet (planned on getting them, figured I may as well sooner rather than later to support the two U’s) I’m a little disappointed. I guess if sales start looking better for Nintendo they might release or port some stuff over but in the meantime I guess I’ll be getting a wireless PS3 controller and play the other titles I want to play on my Wii U on my PC instead. Cena’s Smirk aww, that’s a shame. I was going to buy child of light. guess I won’t. WellWisher I really don’t blame them, though it is a shame. Kenshin0011 Bastards Someone Cool Not surprised. Ubisoft has everyone fooled though it seems. Other then ZombiU they havn’t done anything special, in fact they slapped WiiU early adopters in the face. Then release watch dogs after the other consoles instead of releasing at same time. They are far worse then EA. I bet EA shows some Nintendo games @ E3… uPadWatcher Ubisellout. DragonSilths I called them out on their false smile since day one, yet nobody believed me lol. I was never fooled by them, haven’t gotten a game of their’s since ZombiU. That’s right back in 2012…lol grandlx2 Nintendo is very out of touch with the game buyers. They are stuck in the early 90s. Maybe it’s time for Nintendo to become a memory when it comes to home consoles. Like sega. Maybe it’s time they develope for Sony systems. Nintendo is good at making family friendly games, but there’s a lot more to offer in the gaming market besides family kiddie games. That’s why Sony won this new gen. And by far. Sony knows what people want as gamers. ben Sony are on life support. Sony has not won anything yet. What’s more nintendo would be stupid to sell its games to a platform that is barely outselling it in its own country. Sony is in trouble if it does not start selling in Japan. America could easily go xbox if the exclusive games go to xbox. Brandon Sony is making a profit on ps4 now, and they console is selling good worldwide, they need to out sell nintendo in japan to still be a success. ben “selling well” They dont need to outsell nintendo in Japan, but they do need to sell some consoles otherwise companies like square enix, konami and capcom will not support the ps4. They will still develop western titles, but unique games will be far and few between. Brandon The ps4 is the fastest selling console, and sony grows good relationships with these companie, so this doesnt happen. DragonSilths Sony is lucky the PS4 is doing well as a CONSOLE cause literally its all they got in their entire company making them a bit of money lol. Commander Jim So much ignorance on this board. Firstly, Sony has many very profitable divisions, PS4 is one of them. Their phone sales are skyrocketing, their entertainment (movies and music) division is always very profitable. Their TV division is finally turning around and back on the rise and they are in the process of dumping unprofitable divisions like their PC division which were draining their money. Their overall sales revenue has been rising rapidly. After another year of restructuring they are predicted to start making profits again. But even if they didn’t, all that would happen is that the profitable divisions of gaming, entertainment and phones will be spun off into a new company under the Sony umbrella so the troubles in the rest of the company can’t affect them or drag them down. The idea of “Sony not even lasting the generation” lol. I don’t think you know much about business. DragonSilths I’m not going to argue with something who is so off the map of reality. And I know plenty about the industry, seeing as not only my past and present are it, my future will be as well. DragonSilths You went from saying a bit of sense to being a complete moron. Sony has a high chance of not even lasting the generation as a company lol. Nintendo would literally destroy their own company then put their games on another system. Nintendo works with their systems that their engineers make. Just like Sony and Microsoft do with their systems. leo Noo, Nintendo still can win just fire the old crabs working there stuck in the 90’s steveb944 We didn’t support them when we had the chance so they’re obviously not going to keep wasting valuable resources on a market that doesn’t care for 3rd party. I own more Ubi titles than Nintendo, and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. ben I don’t care about gimped ports. Why did you buy a wii u? You can buy ubi games on a PC. steveb944 You know they’re not all gimped titles. I bought a Wii U 1. To support Nintendo 2. For backwards compatibility to my Wii games 3. Zelda. I had bought it with the promise of third party support but I gave up on that ben I dont understand your points then. I mean you own more ubi games than Nintendo games but you bought a wii u to support Nintendo? How many ubi games are there? I mean most of them are the same game with different skins, right? steveb944 I own more Ubi games but it doesn’t mean I’m not supporting Nintendo as I do own Nintendo titles. In case you didn’t know the issue with Wii U is that the hardware isn’t moving, I’ve already purchased two. Since 3rd party developers don’t see sales I try my best to help the cause but unfortunately other Wii U owners don’t, so we get no 3rd party support, we get game droughts, and then there’s no hardware sales, so it’s a never ending cycle. There’s I think roughly 8 games? As most of the gaming industry nowadays lacks true innovation everything is a rehash of previous releases. You differentiate the story a bit, add a gameplay element, and you then have a new title to release. We get caught up in story lines and we feed into it e.g. Assassin’s Creed, etc. leo So just like Mario right? Re-skinned for every adventure! leo to play games … any games not just Nintendo. SuperSavior These statements always make me feel apprehensive about my Mario Kart Bundle I preordered. I just hope I get a sweet Zelda, Mario Galaxy, and Star Fox out of it. Or whatever else they can whip up! DragonSilths Starfox!!! Would be so damn amazing, but I wont hold my breath. Adam Howell It’s a shame. On the bright side the eshop has started to pick up pace a bit with games. I feel a little overloaded with games right now. (Partly because I just spent around £150 on wii u games a few days ago). I’m going to miss ubisoft. I’ll probably get ac4 soon… and maybe that’s the last desirable wii U ubisoft game I’ve not got. ben Real news. THe E shop will be down on June 3rd for 3 hours. something big is going to happen. DragonSilths Way to start hyping everyone up for something that WONT be big, watch…it will be a new background music lol. leo lol yeah that music changes everything right Nintendo? Magnus Gonzalez At least now the charade that was Ubi support appears to be over..so there’s that. As bad as I thought that support was, sadly it was the best the Wii U got from 3rd parties. The Wii U is plain and simple..going to be 1st party machine from this point forward. That’s okay for me and probably most of you. There’d be less moaning if Nintendo had been better at releasing the requisite number of games but they have failed so far. Hopefully E3 will shed some light on their approach going forward. DragonSilths Do not forget Activison is a big supporter of Wii U except for Destiny lol. And Capcom likes Nintendo hence why Nintendo gets Monster Hunter as an exclusive and I see that contract being extended. Also Namco Bandai helping with Smash Bros… “Sean” SpareChnge Ubisoft won’t, but Nintendo might, but they probably won’t either. Roman I bought Child of light on my wii u, anybody else? I think it’s my only Ubi Game. I was gonna get watch_dogs but I fear it will be canceled all together. Skipped Ray-man (Already have plenty of platformers) and Zombie U (I appreciate Survival Horror but I really don’t like how this game handled killing Zombies, the randomness of bashing them on the head (a well placed hit should be 1 hit)). I will resume building the PC then. Spike Ashford For the love of…. Okay, I don’t want to give Ubisoft the finger, and tell them to suck it like a lollipop, but this is hitting me right in my fandom, right here. Why the hell are they not producing any games for the Wii U, when they’ve clearly built up a fanbase in the Nintendo community? And, yes, I get that sales numbers for the Wii U are unfairly low, and they might not make the profit that other systems have to offer. But come on! They were the only ones who were seriously sticking by the system since launch, and now we can’t even depend of them anymore? DragonSilths You guys are finally having your eyes forcibly opened. I have seen through their fake smile since the beginning, Ubisoft never cared to support the Wii U lol, you guys are mad at finally seeing the truth but oh well, as the old N64 motto was, Get N or Get Out, and to you Ubifail I say GET THE FUCK OUT. Haven’t bought a game of theirs since ZombiU…that’s right back in 2012, not a single game of theirs last year lol. And ZombiU was broken, don’t like them, don’t care where they go but it bothers me not. ben The wii u is one thing, but the 3ds has 44million customers.. a developer that turns its back on 44 million people is stupid. Virus6 Not one game in 2013 on the 3DS. That’s fucking stupid right there. gamingpalooza looks like we have another traitor leo Here Here 8ruc3 It’s a sad but predictable news. They said last year that by the end of 2013 they would see if they continue to support Wii U or not (see the link below my comment) because the sales AND the install base were low. Now with this announcement, I think we have the answer on what they decided to do. I like Ubisoft so I’m disappointed a little. But I’m not feeling guilty because I gave them my support since I bought my Wii U last year. I bought ZombiU, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Assassin’s Creed III and IV, Rayman Legends and The Smurfs 2. I’m also planning to buy Rabbids Land and Watch_Dogs if they don’t cancel it of course. I’m sure they will return in a near future. Mario Kart 8 will ensure that they will… 😉 (At least I hope so) *For those of you who like proofs and links: http://ca.ign.com/articles/2013/07/08/zombiu-wasnt-profitable-no-sequel-planned tom Is the just dance series ubisoft? Virus6 They stopped trying a long time ago. They released what they said they would and that’s literally all. Of course it was only after putting half the effort into our version or delaying the game so it would perform worse and the other versions would sell better. I did my part. I bought ZombiU, Assassin’s Creed, Child of Light and Rayman Legends. I was going to get Watch Dogs on day one, but after the delay for no damn reason and now this crap, I’m not going to get it on ANY system. If they are not wanting to support the 6 million+ on the Wii U, then I don’t give a damn. leo The Wii U will always be the miserable 3rd party platform. Its better to buy a PS4/Xboxone since you get the 3rd party support. Oh, and for all you people that say ” All we need is nintendo games fuck 3rd parties!” you’re one of the biggest reasons why Wii U gets no support. Why would the dev put any work on a game that only a couple hundred will buy? There is no reason too especially when the very console audience they target talks shit about their game(s).If you think 3rd party games are crap… then obviously you are stuck in a bubble because believe it or not not all of them suck! Rinslowe It’s not so simple. Both the consumer and the studios have their reasons… What you are describing is only one side of the situation. leo One side people like to hide. Rinslowe Regardless of how you say it. It’s only a portion of the overall issue. Consumers are right to pass on titles that have premium price tags with less features and optimisations than the other platforms. This is understandable. Equally, studio’s cannot be blamed when they do create definitive experiences on the platform only to receive less than profitable results. It’s a genuine issue on both sides of the fence. And there’s no kidding when I say it’ll take more than pessimism to account for whats really going wrong with all of that. leo lets not kid here, there’s an obvious bias towards Nintendo. Virus6 I’ve bought my fair share of Ubisoft games. Rayman Legends, Assassin’s Creed III, ZombiU and Child of Light. It’s hard to blame consumers a lot of the time when they are constantly handed the lesser version over and over and nothing unique. People aren’t buying simply because what they were offered wasn’t good enough. That’s all there is to it. leo There’s obviously some background deals going on. leo Wii U = Mustang PS4/Xbox One= Shelby GT500 leo So UBI is like EA only it bites in the ass when you don’t look Nintendofreak http://nintendoenthusiast.com/news/ubisoft-tease-watch-dogs-wii-u-reveal-e3/ HEY THIS JUST DROPPED INTO MY NEWSFEED THINGY Rinslowe Hmmm… The plot thickens. 😛 BGhp No surprise. Third party will have to hit rock bottom before we could see a rise. snaek Well, there goes any chance Beyond Good & Evil 2 will be coming to Wii U… oh well audi lover So there not even showing wii u version of watchdogs probably been scraped then Commander Jim A huge blow, Ubisoft was the only major third party company trying to support the Wii U. Archibald Crews Man, who woulda thought Ubisoft would’ve dropped support if no one bought their games? it’s so astounding! sd Are you sure about this? I saw an article stating that Ubisoft are teasing a reveal of watchdogs for the Wii U at E3. BrotherDump Nintendo needs new upper management! A new business model if it want to keep companies souch as Ubisoft! Reggie should be the head of Nintendo! Guest wow .. literally shit, 720p NO AA WTF is this shit. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-vs-mario-kart-8 Guest i wonder why everyone turn a blind eye for such a thing, and keep bashing X1 or PS4 when both has more advanced graphics and power. Guest FUCKING DOWNGRADED LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL tronic307 So was Watch_Dogs. Still a great game. Rinslowe Crap I’m boycotting Mario Kart 8 now, lol…. 0_o But seriously why delete your comment? Resolution fact is just that, a fact. Many people all around the internet including myself have been curious about that one since the first articles started reporting 1080p 60fps. From what I’ve seen the game is gorgeous enough @ 720p anyway and 60fps is always a plus in a game like Kart. But the complete occlusion of AA is a little strange. But again. Does it make the game any less of a looker? Sometimes we can get too caught up in the specs to notice the beauty. I was playing Mass Effect 2 on the PS3 this morning showing a mate something and on the 4K LED I bought a few months back. Even though my projector has a native resolution @ 1080p, the LED still looked pretty darn amazing with the higher res. Even after doing a few sessions of Shadow Fall on PS4, I wasn’t expecting ME2 to hold up. And I assumed due to the LED’s resolution the native 720p image would have looked noticeably worse for wear. But surprisingly it looked pretty good. And it reminded me that visual representation on current hardware can still be impressive at times. And I’m a PC gamer as well. Shit, is not a word I would associate with Kart… ZeldaFan83 Very well said. I played the game and it is absolutely gorgeous especially @ 60fps and if it drops 1fps every now and then the human eye probably can’t tell the difference and it’s extremely fun to play. So why should a couple numbers even matter. This game is breathtaking, one of the most detailed and absolutely beautiful games I’ve seen to date. Rinslowe Especially considering it only does so for less than 0.012 of a second once every 2.7 seconds. It may cause some imperceptible image stutter due to average flat screen refresh rates, but again who’s that keen to notice? I have an eye for this type of thing and I wouldn’t notice 1 frame drop under those circumstances, honestly. But lets give DF the benefit of the doubt and assume the difference between the TV refresh and the frame drop is somehow noticeable to the average person without being able to test frame rate. Still, as they themselves mentioned it doesn’t affect the game at all, while also according to them could be easily fixed through a patch – being certain it isn’t a performance hit type of bug. But more likely a background function of the Mario Kart TV feature. It’s really an over the top analysis imo. And there have been a few other notable AAA titles in the last 6 months that deserved the same treatment but didn’t… I will give it to them for giving credit where it’s due though. darkcreap Honestly, I can’t understand any of the complaints they make. I don’t notice any framedrops or artifacts they claim. I think this Digital Foundry people are like wine testers that claim to perceive certain things they actually don’t or, in the best case, are not noticeable to a 99% of the population. “As it stands, however, we’re left with a heavily aliased presentation filled with obvious stair-stepping and pixel-crawling artefacts throughout most scenes. Busier areas can even result in a loss of detail to the point of reducing visibility”. It just looks gorgeous. I’ve seen games with noticeable framedrops, resolution issues or that, by design, didn’t have stunning graphics but seriously… I remember, for instance, how at a few points Wind Waker HD had framerate issues. One in the Wind Temple (it was very noticeable). I was also pissed about the game being too bright, but it was something I didn’t notice that much when I played it on my TV. I mean, it was more noticeable in screen caps and Internet videos, but not in my everyday gaming. Maybe I am just an anomally, but I hardly think most people can notice anything about those things they claim. John Andalora I’ve never given a shit about that. I suppose my issue with the game though is that it’s just boring. Tried the GameStop demo, and I was disappointed to find that it felt like every other Mario Kart. This one has the karts going even slower though… I’m sure that many of you guys will enjoy this game. But I’m afraid this isn’t something I’ll be purchasing anytime soon. I found my favorite Mario Kart (64) and I think I’ll just stick to it. Rinslowe Just about every game on the platform you’ve said something to that effect… Not being a fanboy, just making an observation. Saying a demo is boring is one thing. Most demo’s are, tbh. W101’s was terrible. Yet the game itself was fantastic. Normally if people want a game enough they’ll get it before trying it. If they’re on the fence they’ll be smart to try it first. And if they don’t like it to start with, well there’s a preconceived opinion against the game by definition. I doubt you’d be buying the game soon in any case. You sold your Wii U for a PS4 only a few short months ago. If Kart was the game you wanted to reinvest on the platform you would’ve jumped all in regardless. We’ve all played Kart enough times to know what we’re in for and that’s half the reason why people invest in it to begin with. Again, this is not a fanboy rebuttal at all. Simply me calling you out on a comment that is hardly sincere or believable from a guy who’s observed enough of said comments to know the difference… 🙂 John Andalora Trust me, I never assumed you were being a fanboy, and I appreciate you voicing your statements. Here’s the thing: I was actually considering reinvesting in a Wii U for a huge game launch like MK8. I currently own every Mario Kart, and I thought “Well, maybe Mario Kart 8 would be exactly what I’m looking for.” So, I tried the demo with this in mind: In a game like Wonderful 101, the demo can only be a very small section of the game. There’s going to be a lot of additions that go on later in the game which they either don’t have time to show or don’t want to show. Could be a huge story or powers or different things. In fact, I actually bought Wonderful 101 and played it for about 4 hours. I got rather frustrated with the characters either being too close or too far away, the frustrating controls, and the somewhat repetitive enemies. But, Mario Kart is not that kind of game. Playing one level in Mario Kart shows off just about everything Mario Kart has to offer. Gliding? I did that. Change in gravity? I did that. Underwater? I did that. Driving? I did that. How much can you actually get from buying the game that the demo couldn’t show you? The kart battles that every single reviewer hates? The retro levels that are the exact same as every other game? A few other maps that do the exact same thing? So, after the demo of all the new features, what would purchasing the full game have showed me that the demo couldn’t? Rinslowe That doesn’t account for cc rating or vehicle choice or the recent customisation options between vehicles. I mean what are we talking about here with the demo? Whats actually available in the demo in that regard? Saying the retro levels are the same as every other game is another clear giveaway to your perception of Kart games in general these days. As retro tracks became a staple of the series. It also does not take into effect the dynamic of each customisation in relation to those courses or course changes specific to Kart like anti-grav sections within those retro stages Don’t get me wrong I’m not trying to voice my way around your opinion being incorrect. I’m quite certain you find it boring. What I don’t buy is everything else that went with it. Picking up another Wii U for something like Kart? Not likely given your arguments of the game are more generalised toward the series. Apart from the vehicles being slower. Which strangely hasn’t featured in any review I’ve read to date… Lets call it a day on this one. I personally just think you’re over the series in general and then the rest of the typical nonsense that goes with it, lol. John Andalora I understand completely. There was a good vehicle selection on all forms, but no CC. The demo has about 8 levels to try. And THEY ARE! They so are! If they changed the retro levels, they wouldn’t be retro, would they? That’s why they’re a staple and a major reason people come back. This seems like a nice spot to stop. Again, I think lots of people will enjoy the game, but I don’t think I would. FutureFox “I currently own every Mario Kart” Could it be then that you are simply realizing what every other kart game you had was? I’ve only played two (64 and Wii) so for me after a fairly long hiatus from the series I wouldn’t be too hard on the fact that its similar to the older ones. The demo didn’t really wow me either but I’m considering that the player (me) has changed (with the exception of no battle mode, that’s the foolish on Nintendo’s part). Though I didn’t witness it for this game when I played SM3D world kids were enamored by the style of it so I can imagine many would feel the same for this game. When I say kids I mean 11-14 year old which is within the ballpark age many use played SNES or the 64 version so…… yeah. Brandon Hyrule Warriors is 720p also, but both games do look good. WOW, those fanboys who kept bragging 1080p@60fps, must feel dumb now Shane Michaels http://meta.filesmelt.com/downloader.php?file=Dethout.gif Marioman21 Wow not even Just Dance. Dang Ubisoft is really done with Nintendo. tom I thought the just dance games sold decent on the WII U? Brandon The wii u is just for nintendo games, it should have had third party, but it doesnt and I feel bad for the wii u only owners who really enjoy third party. The wii u does not have a single third party publisher that completely supports them, look at sega, no aliens. Stephen Davis What what about watchdogs! 🙁 InterTreble … the day after, a Ubisoft’s manager teased WD for Wii U at E3: http://nintendoenthusiast.com/news/ubisoft-tease-watch-dogs-wii-u-reveal-e3/ They don’t even know where they live… Ubilol, Ubilol… 🙂 Hopper200456 This just in: Ubisoft also reports that they like to kick kittens. Officer Raichu I just relized, maybe if they had pikmin 3 and wonderful 101 at launch then they could have wonderful 101 for april and if they advertise them that wouldve helped that could keep momentum going for it Officer Raichu but sadly ubisoft delayed rayamn for a stupid reason, nntendo had to delay pikmin 3 for some weird reason, and i dont know why w101 was delayed Brandon Both of those games, would do anything to sell the console. Elenora Tazia I can’t believe a lot of people today are actually playing pixels and frame per seconds these days. What is wrong with you all? The GAME is right THERE! I just wanna play games on Wii U for all I care! Spaniard0069 So Watch Dogs for the Wii U is canceled? tom UBI. I have bought several of you Wii U games day one. But if you give us games that are watered down with no DLC what do you expect the sales figures to be? Rom/Ram Paul 2016 Well since developing and porting on x86-64 architecture is much easier and given the fact that the install base on Nintendo will peak at around 25-30 million I can see why they are ditching Nintendo. Stephen Davis First EA, now UniSoft. Really who else is left besides Sega? Disney? WiiU is the best why don’t people just bloody support it like every other console. So sick of this.
