If you missed the Tomodachi Life Nintendo Direct yesterday, you’re missing out on one of the most hilarious presentations Nintendo has ever done. While the game is releasing exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS in June, producer Yoshio Sakamoto has stated that he believes the concept could work well on a home console like the Wii U.

In a recent interview, Sakamoto talked a little about the game, saying that while it may seem similar to Animal Crossing, the game isn’t really influenced by the franchise. As for a console version of the game, it’s not out of the question, but it’s something the development team will have to discuss now that a Western localization is becoming available.

According to Sakamoto, development on the series took two years, while the localization process for the game took another year. There were some outside developers contracted to help with the making of the game, and the reason why the original version of the game wasn’t localized is due to the restrictions of the Nintendo DS.

Will you be picking up Tomodachi Life when it releases on June 6?

    What did I just watch?

    • Shota

      that’s tomodachi collection for ya

    • palomino blue

Would love to see this on Wii U. Still don’t have a 3DS.

  • Pokemonsilph

I might get this game, but I dunno, gotta save up money for Smash Bros.

  • I absolutely ADORE this Nintendo Direct. It’s also the best marketing from Nintendo I’ve seen in a long time. They made me want to buy a game in roughly 10 minutes

Also, I’d buy the heck out of a console version

    • JB

I was sold like 3 minutes in. Haha. I hope they market the heck out of this game, as I’m sort of eager to see how whacky the commercials would be for it 😛 Also, if it sells well enough, it would probably be a lock for a U version!

      • yeah, I can’t wait to see how this game does. If marketed correctly, they could recreate the tomogatchi phase that the 90s had ;P

    • bistricky

Brilliant Nintendo Direct …. have to agree its one of the best I have ever seen from them and I certainly hope it makes it onto the Wii U. 100% will purchase it on release date.

      • seriously, I want more wacky things like this from them!

  • jjbredesen

Hands down best Nintendo Direct ever made in the history of anything!

Now if they only could do E3 like this XD

And all hail virtual boy almost made me die, good to see that Nintendo does not always need to be corporate 🙂

    This should be on TV

  • JB

For some reason, this game looked strangely appealing! You know it’s something that only Nintendo could get away with! Lol it’s a day one purchase for me!

    • jjbredesen

Its like Nintendo’s version of the Sims/Animal crossing/ Garry’s mod

      • Adam

Isnt animal crossing nintendos version of animal crossing?

        • jjbredesen

Yeah lol, but i am sure you understood what i meant XD

  • Sam

    Yes please!!!

  • Lusunup

I thought it was called tomagotchi at first…

  • alexdodoll

Tomadochi Life is for everyone around the world. Soooo, they now can reveal the Tomadochi stadium and the Mii character for SSB4

    • ETeach

They actually already did announce the stage I think. Remember that one random Pic of The Day out of like 5000 that took place in a random bedroom? Pretty sure that was a Tomadochi Life stage.

      • Eric J. Sato Raack

I can definitely see Miis finally being announced though for Smash.

        • ETeach

Definitely possible. They’d probably have to do something like in Mario Kart Wii though, were only the player’s profile mii was playable. Otherwise, that character select screen could get messy.

I have to wonder what they could do for a moveset though, without things seeming generic…

O_O Guys change your password on everything now, OpenSSL has been hacked meaning that hackers can get your Disqus password, the bug has been patched but it has also effected websites such as Facebook and Gmail, so change everything fast.

This is probably the most wat inducing game on the 3ds. Looking forward to it!

  • MujuraNoKamen

Oi Sakamoto where’s our new Metroid game 😉

  • MetroidZero

  • wober2

I wonder what the internal dialogue about the wiiu is inside nintendo. I get this notion that even within the company everyone wants to work on a 3ds release.

  • Carlos Webster

If he brings it to the Wii U, there better not be any delays.

  • FutureFox

Looks mire like something I’d watch as youtube series but not likely to own.

  • Ok, so I just took the time to watch the whole thing.
    I have… I just… I don’t know… anymore..

  • uPadWatcher

At around 10:20 of this clip, listen to the “Billhelm Scream”.

  • John

This game just goes to prove Nintendo are still a major driving force when it comes to making unique, funny, adorable and crazy games.

  • Sdudyoy

Hmm, yeah, that was one of the oddest thing’s I’ve ever seen, that somehow made me want this game, I’m not sure how.

  • Carl Fin

  • Anonymous

  • If they dont put it on nwiiu, im going to be soooooo sad! :'(
