Nintendo will offer the standard Wii U Pro controller for $50, but third party accessory makers have already begun manufacturing their own versions. And don’t expect those to be just simple, plain Pro controllers — they’ll usually be available in a variety of colors, layouts, etc.

One of such Wii U Pro controllers was spotted at EB Games in Australia, which resembles the classic NES controller. It’s button layout is a bit different than the standard Pro controller, naturally. Both analog sticks are at the top of each side in order to make for the “SNES controller” at the bottom.

EB Games lists the controller at just under $50, which is close to the retail price of the regular, Nintendo-made Wii U Pro controller. There’s no word on who the manufacturer behind the SNES themed controller is, but the device will be available on launch day.

As we get closer to Wii U launch, more and more third party accessory makers will reveal their Wii U accessories. Some already have, like Atomic, which recently revealed a whole line of accessories for the new console.

        • NavyBlueYoshi

          This article just got a
          NavyBlueYoshi Diamond Seal of approval

        • AwesomeNES

What a strange mix of a classic controller and a conventional controller.
          I Want One!!!

      • Eric

      • Eric

my bad i didnt see your correction lol

      • AKA-Link77

OMG! Dam that controller is sexy! Ima buy that one instead of the black one now! Its so retro and OWSM!! ๐Ÿ˜€

        • AKA-Link77

But one question: wat r the buttions in the middle? They r Start & Select on the O-G Snes controller…. but those are above the power buttion on the Pro. “+” & “-” mean Start & Select already. There cant be 2 of the same buttions.
          Hmmmmmmm. . . .
Im guessing mabey its for the design, therefore they might not be real buttions. Any1 else hav any ideas?

          • frank (3dsFC=5155-3120-0417)

Well the “snes” start/select buttons aren’t labeled, so I’m going to say that they’re either just for show (unlikely) or they ARE start/select buttons and are the same as the +/- buttons. I guess its just to feel realistic (moving to the center instead of up when playing an snes game) but are also there for when you’re playing a wii u game using the pro controller.

          • srpg2ishere

They mean “turbo” and “slow”. If you hadn’t noticed yet most third party gamecube controllers come with it too. It’s just that they are more roundish.

    • Ninjafish

      Colors! ๐Ÿ˜€

      • NintendoMan :D

Nintendo Man like pretty colors ๐Ÿ˜› OOOOOOO SHINY AND COLORFUL

    • bman

I wish they would come out with a cool NES color Wii U, to match this controller. …heck, maybe a Wii U cover??

      • Lord Reyne

That reminds me of the Game Boy Advance NES design. I doubt they’ll do that for the Wii U.

    • Master Awesomeness

      Finally, something in australia!

    • Asiancake

My dad use to play snes if I get this controller maybe he will play wiiu
And buy more games for me

    • Opticine

I just hope that the SNES controller part can be taken out and used individually.

    • SideScreamer

I must own at least one of these.

    • Nko Sekirei

that nes wii u ccp controller looks bad@$$ must buy for me

  • Joeyperez

    sweeeeeet like candy ..

  • srpg2ishere

Whoaaaaa!!! I can’t beleive this!!! I was gonna get the regular black but now that I know that this snes one is coming out will I’ve changed my mind!!! It has colored buttons just like the old snes one and It’s shaped just like the pro controller and the buttons are not even almost noticably different from the regular pro controller either!Thumbs up man! This controller will change the way I play forever thank you NINTENDO!!!!!! XD

    • frank (3dsFC=5155-3120-0417)

Keep in mind this is in australia, and while its possible, its not for certain that this will make it to other regions. But there will be others to use this design if it doesn’t.

    • SideScreamer

Nintendo didn’t make the deco of this controller either.

  • pikapower0000

  • Toady

Options are always nice to have. This is a pretty clever design.

  • Shankovich

The legacy of the SNES lives on!!!

  • Arsonist Monkey

I won’t be needing this really. I have already preordered the Zombiu Bundle with a pro controller.

    • Neonridr

no harm in having 2.. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Arsonist Monkey

        Good Point!

  • Ledreppe

Cool, I wonder if it will be available in the UK on Wii U’s launch day. Might be tempted by one.

  • NaX

um damn looks nice to bad it couldnt be the real pro crontroller. I only buy first party, but i like how this one looks. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • B-rett

    • srpg2ishere

      yur an idiot

  • srpg2ishere

I’ll get the black wii u pro controller later. Because I’ve found my new best friend. I also going to get some EPIC skins for my GamePad and the rainbow styluses!! Also Wii U isn’t even out yet and theres like over a TRILLION stuff you can buy for It!!! XD

  • Maverick-Hunter

This is by far the best controller ever to be made; its like the super nintendo controller absorbing all the powers of the choas emeralds and giving us this BEAST REMOTE !!!!

  • B-rett

Anyone else want a Chumbawumba designed controller?

    • NavyBlueYoshi

      that comment gets a
      NavyBlueYoshi seal of approval
I wish they made another revolutionary game like paper mario the original. That game is definetly number 1 on my fav game list

    • AcesHigh

      Frikkin hilarious!

    Super-Famicom-ISH. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Djs

    looks funky indeed ๐Ÿ˜›

  • LaLlamaqueLlama

Sorry, it just looks as a crappy photoshop of the controller

Why do i need 2 start and select buttons?
Plus if it was true we could at least have a better render, sorry but it looks just like a concept and not as a final product soon to be released

    • AcesHigh

I agree with you. I’m gonna call bull$hit on this one too. That is most definitely not a controller designed by any kind of ergonomics professional. Looks like a conceptual controller put together by a fanboy with passable Photoshop skills.

      • LaLlamaqueLlama

Nintendo was always great in keeping an old school look on the wii remote and classic controller. There is just no need on doing something so obvious and ergonomically bad.

Plus you canยดt even read the X, sorry but i have seen better ideas on first year of industrial design, but i might like a controller with the snes color scheme. Its a nice idea but the implementation is wrong

  • Chaos

Now that’s an awesome controller. Like the SNES was the best during its era, I have a feeling the WiiU can carry this on.

  • srpg2ishere

I love nintendo. They’re crafty with the things that they make. And they’ve always made the BEST controllers too. The other companies try to copy their ideas and make it their own but It’s not the same thing. Nintendo is the best company ever and the other companies can just drop the bullcrap. Because lets face it… Without Nintendo…. Sony and Microsoft wouldn’t even exist. I rest my case.

  • srpg2ishere

Sonic: That controller is GOOD, GREAT, AWESOME OUTSTANDING, AMAZING!!!!

  • Ninjafish

I hope this comes out in North America! ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Volcano

THAT LOOKS AWESOME! If i have the chance i’ll definetely get this.

  • Falcon PAWTCH!!!

    Sexy controller!

  • Nintendomus Prime

As pretty as this looks, the first party ones are always the best!

I can’t believe it’s only a month or so away. I only preordered nintendoland bundle for now because I remember red steel so didnt want to buy before reviews!

  • nintendofreak

  • Mateus Palamecia

My faith in third party controllers has been brutally murdered for some time now, but this is a really nice design!

  • ssb43dsFC3007 8585 6950

looks cool but im goin Black NINTENDO STYLE!

    • Starfoxguy

Im getting a black Wii U too. but Im getting this controller. PS I added you.

      • Starfoxguy

        3ds FC 3437-3520-4659

  • Jetty

Holy f$#%ing s#*t!!!!!! This is a launch purchase, just hope those joysticks last.

  • Elite

Remember this is aus currency. So the reg Nintendo pro controller is actually more like $88. So its 30 dollars cheaper for an aussy to get this controller. $50 or $80?

    • frank (3dsFC=5155-3120-0417)

      Currently, 50 australian is about 51.67 usd…according to google…

  • Kahhhhyle

Same as a standard pro controller other then the colors. If somebody switched the right stick and the face buttons liken on the Xbox/ps3 I would prolly get that, or at least if the a, b buttons were switched like on the xbox

  • Neonridr

But will we see this controller in North America. I would get that over the black one any day. Love the color scheme.

  • D2K

Totally buying this. That is just genius.

  • 7upland

    nintendo is trolling

  • brain

way better than the original ๐Ÿ˜€

  • wtf

like it the snes was the base for manny awesome games and now it’s back at the newest nintendo console!

  • QTF

I miss the good ol’ days when Nintendo colored the action buttons… ๐Ÿ™

  • Wii U is next gen

Now that is a awesome controller and i can’t wait to get my hands on that

  • argentina fanboy

it could have looked better and 34rd party pads stink like dualshocks (crap analogs etc)….

but we dont know it might be cool…. oh of topic guys wii remote and nunchuck has been confirmed for zombi U….

not the main game only the fps multi player so its game pad,pro pad and remote and chuck for multi player main game remains gamepad only

it would have been great if wii remote was supported for the story mode but there isnt time glad ubisoft added proper fps controls instead of this deranged pro pad is core fps nonsense they talked of

    • Neonridr

if Ubisoft allowed different controls for the main story line, then it would defeat the purpose of the gamepad and the new gameplay elements it introduces. Once you strip away the gamepad from the game, it becomes something that the 360 or PS3 could have.

I don’t want developers to take that route, as the pad offers so many unique ways to play.

  • Nintendo Power (Chuck Norris)

Alllll sweet. Now I can relive the good old days. (Just to let you know, I played a classic game on my friends Xbox 360 and it doesn’t feel right with the controller)

  • LyingTuna

Oh my god… I want one!!!!

  • Grem

So, can assume that Wii was the new NES and the U will be new SNES?

    Mm…that controller looks epic

  • ceramicsaturn

Not a fan of how the SNES controller seems to be coming out of the Pro pad. I kinda wish they chose a more subtle design, where it used the SNES pad and buttons, without the SNES outline.

Still, it is clever, and hopefully shows people just how much the Xbox copied Nintendo before Nintendo copied it back…my head.. it hurts.

    • Joesatmoes

i agree. the outline might just hav ruined it for me

    • If they were going to make a controller that -wasn’t- going to be a Wii U Pro controller and mislead people with the name, why didn’t they just make a straight up wired Classic Controller and save themselves the trouble of adding in Infrared, Speakers, Gyro and other unnecessary stuff that bumped the price up? If they’d just made a regular, wired Wii Classic Controller that plugged into the bottom of the Wii-mote, it would’ve been cheaper… plus, not only would Wii owners be able to use it, but owners of the Mayflash Wireless Classic Controller to USB adapter (such as myself) would also be able to use it. If they made a good quality, part old flat CC / part SNES controller. I’d totally spend $25-35 for something like that.

Please read my post on Interwork’s Facebook page… and leave comments.

  • ceramicsaturn

Also, that giant IR port on the top seems to scream this isn’t a bluetooth controller, but one using a IR dongle. God I hope not.

  • Cugno the Swiss

What about showing Namco Bandai this controller, maybe they’ll notice that motion controls on Wii U aren’t mandatory.

    • Cugno the Swiss

For those of you who are wondering, just look for “Namco Bandai Tales Wii U” with google, and you’ll read an article in which NB says that they have no plans to make a Wii U Tales game, saying that they don’t want the player to swing around the tablet, as it could be a stressful experience. As if swinging a tablet is part of an RPG experience.

      • Derp

Not everyone will have a pro-controller. But everyone will get a tablet with a bundle, which is why they are trying to use it. It would be a bad idea to force everyone to get pro-controllers in order to play a single game because the developers “don’t want the player to swing around the tablet”. This was acceptable when video games were new, but Nintendo is trying to be nice to developers, consumers, and themselves this time. One mistake, EVERYONE flakes out.

  • LazerK

    Its beautiful :’D
Kudos to the manufacturer whoever it is

  • DragonChi

    Sold. I want one.

  • Johny

well the original pro controller has both sticks at the top too…

  • Tobbe

Better work together than against eachother. 3rd party is here to stay.
Lovely control and great memories with thoae collors. Bad english, i know

  • MarioU

    I feel young once again : )

  • Dereq

Don’t mean to be a stickler for details, but that is modeled after a Super FAMICOM. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Neonridr

true, the SNES had grey and purple buttons.

      • Neonridr

sorry light and dark purple buttons.

  • Madmagican

I got a real heavy hit of nostalgia when I saw the SNES controller at the bottom of the 3rd party controller; definitely gonna pick this up when I can afford it

  • CRT_hater777

  • Joesatmoes

i was gonna get the black one… until i saw this sexy-ass controller. however, i think the color and SNES- type thing may get old and boring. plus- the black one goes with the delux set im gonna get.

    • Phapidevil

Yeah on the n64 Yeah on the n64 controller the jsotyick is in a dumb place you have to move a hand off a button pad to use it, And it wasn’t even a really good jsotyick it was just too loose. Which makes you want to mash it into a direction. (Doesn’t help just hurts your thumb)

  • jacobbaba

this is honestly the the most awesome controller ever

  • Darkmanext

    I must have 4 of these.Need them day 1.

  • ~!@#$%^&*()_+=-{][};’,./?:”

  • Starfoxguy

Wow. This is the most beautiful controller i have ever seen.

  • Wii2U

In Australia the Pro Controller costs $80. So this controller is significantly cheaper

  • Derp

While Nintendo can provide $49.99 controllers, 3rd party can provide “Elite” controllers with a STRONG rumble feature for $59.99. That would be good.

  • ugslick

Idk about third party. Either. Its a nintendo made pro controller painted on by another manufacturer/designer, or Nintnedo made it themselves (of course this is just my own speculation)

  • logan7699

sweet will be picking one up

  • HawkEye

If Nintendo would make a controller like this, i’m sure it would have way more battery life and precission than this one. But this is still AWESOME controller!

  • Connor

    That controller is amazing ๐Ÿ˜€

  • FireRed

can we have that in north america, but with purple buttons?

  • joesatmoes

better work just as good as the regular one- i mean even without the SNES controller buttons, it looks cool- the analog sticks and the home button are a cool black. the only problem is that the outline of the SNES controller looks wierd. plz take it out of the final product- then it will be perfect

  • Kei

Looks like something Hori would make.

  • Lusunup

oh god… its so trendy, so unique and now they cant say it look like a the xbox controller it doesn’t resemble shit of xbox and is so mine now ! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

  • Brandon Sherwood

WOW!! Way to take the X-Box controller idea!!!!!

  • SoFLY

Its easy to see this is photoshopped … Why do people tease us?

  • Fuzunga
  • BananaPwnz

    Me Gusta!

  • SteampunkJedi

Assuming these will be as reliable as the Nintendo Pro and available in the U.S., I will definitely get one of these epic-looking controllers!

    • Read other people’s reviews, it only functions as a Wii-Mote / CC, not a Wii U Pro Controller….

      • Linskarmo

Please excuse me for not having had a time machine in my possession: it hadn’t been released yet. But it really sucks that it doesn’t work as a Pro Controller, and thank you for mentioning that.

  • Your Mom

    I need this so badly!

  • srpg2ishere

If you think this looks good you should see the other colors!

  • What?

It’s based off of the SNES controller, it’s based off of the Super Famicon controller. A Nintendo based website should know this.

  • Waverley Boyle

    Looks quite ugly.

  • when is this coming to america?
