One of the major concerns for people interested in seeing The Wonderful 101 succeed is whether or not Nintendo fans will know about it when it is being released. A loyal fan took to Twitter to ask outspoken developer Hideki Kamiya whether we would be seeing a Nintendo Direct focused on advertising The Wonderful 101. Luckily, the answer is yes.

More information about future releases will likely be included in that Nintendo Direct, which will have to air before September 13th since that’s the release date for the game.

Uhm…I think Iwata confirmed this already months ago…and not just once

    • Cgmusic

Now when are they going to confirmed the date the SUMMER update is coming?

      • thedeciderU

september 21, the last day of summer hahaha

        • Cgmusic

          why……. 🙁

          • thedeciderU

i’m just joking. seems they are behind on all their endeavors.

          • thedeciderU

did your name just change from claudio garcia? wth

  • The Clockwork Being

Yeah a NIntendo Direct! The Wonderful 101 sells will skyrocket without a doubt RIGHT? NO! TV ads, Youtuvbe ads, internet ads, in-stores ads that would help way more as advertisement.

    • Nintedward

Nobody said they weren’t going to do those things. Infact I’ve seen W101 and Pikmin 3 adds on Youtube a few times now (along with other Nintendo games…)

W101 will almost certainly be advertised on the mediums you listed. And having a full direct about it certainly could help the sales out by showing people what it’s like and building up hype amongst Hardcore Nintendo fans.

      • thedeciderU

i haven’t seen any ads for w101 or pikmin on youtube yet (only game and wario).

you mention the hype building amongst hardcore nintendo fans, but isn’t the main issue not reaching a wider audience at this point? nintendo will always have their franchises, whether timely or not, but, shouldn’t they be desperately trying to connect with and regain the “core” gamer (their words)? they made all these promises, and some seem they will be fulfilled, but they’re so damn secretive it works against them.

i’m super excited to hear which unannounced games will release in 2013, but i think they need some pretty big tricks up their sleeves to get their market share come november. if they attract gamers with some more adult-oriented games (people who grew up with hard-ass NES classics that now want something larger in scope and maybe a bit more mature) they will be a lot better off in the long run.

i’m excited for the games this fall, but am let down i haven’t heard of any more mature-type titles on wiiu. they need a killer exclusive to fill the gap. not a sellout game, but something that makes everyone with a ps3 shit their pants.

        • Nintedward

I’m from England….. UK Youtube adds are different to US and other regions in the world.

          I just seen a W101 Youtube add about 10 minutes ago…

          • thedeciderU

            good call. forgot about that!

          • Clel

I’m in France and was recently in the States and Canada, and I haven’t seen ANY anywhere 🙁 Way more PS4 and Destiny ads.

      • Clel

But they’re not doing this for ANYTHING 🙁

      • Andrew Gonzalez

Well I guess it comes out sooner in your region hence the recent ads. I recently sent an email to Nintendo explaining my concerns for the marketing of W101. I did receive a reply:

“Thanks for writing. I will make sure to document your feedback so that the appropriate departments know what our fans are asking for. I also wanted to mention that we are advertising for The Wonderful 101. It was actually featured in our big Nintendo Direct presentation that aired during E3. I’ve included a link to our page that we created to advertise it below:

I’m sure you’ll enjoy the game when it releases.
        Ben Weekly
        Nintendo of America Inc.”

I even posted up on Miiverse saying “Nintendo, please start advertising for pikmin 3 and The Wonderful 101. I did get a large number of “yeahs” from the community and I’ve been getting more everyday so hopefully Nintendo will also see that. I want this game to do so well because it’s so unique and it looks amazing.

      • Thomas Fitzgibbon

Why on Earth have some people down voted you’re comment? Don’t people want The Wonderful 101 to succeed?

    • If they show me in the Nintendo Direct, the sells will skyrocket very high

      • Satoru Iwata

The day we show you in a Nintendo Direct, is the day we release a compilation of EarthBound outside of Japan.

        • That will happen soon… right?

        • GLaDOS

If I’m not correct, you were planning on doing so on the Wii U’s Virtual Console.

  • Ballzbeard

Has anyone seen an advertisement for the Wii U on TV? I’ve yet to see a single one in the states.

    • Linskarmo

I saw a few quite a while ago. I didn’t like the music though, so I kept the TV muted.

      • Ballzbeard

Was it the dubstep one? I think I recall seeing it on youtube. I expect we will see some as we get closer to the holidays.

        • Linskarmo

Yes, it was. I probably would have seen more ads than I did if I watched more TV. 😛 But still, I hope some new, well devised ads flood the airwaves come December.

    • Mochlum

I saw quite a bit of them back when the Wii U first launched in November/December, then they died down a little, then they returned a little with LEGO City: Undercover, and a little with Game and Wario. They are probably gonna return in the months August-December when a crapload of games come out for the Wii U.

    • mojack411

I’ve seen them in movie theaters. I don’t watch TV anymore so I can’t say anything about that, though.

    • Fred

Wait do you people still watch TV? We canceled our cable a long time ago and we’re Netflix/Hulu Plus only.

    • Dodge Pribyl

I’ve seen 2: One for the console itself, One for New Super Mario Bros. U.

  • The Clockwork Being

This better not be Japan only like the Pikmin one.

    • D Moness

the animal crossing one was japanese only as well but has been put on the e-shop subbed for everyone to watch it. That might happen with pikmin the closer to the western release (although that is in 3/4 weeks).

  • Linskarmo

I hope some other games are discussed soon as well, but learning more just about W101 interests me too.

  • Michael Jurado

I can’t wait for this game!! I love super hero’s, I love comic book graphics (like viewtiful joe) so this game is a day 1 purchase for me ^__^ I cannot wait too see the Direct for it I hope it comes with a video clip and not just gameplay i mean i love gameplay but i want some dialog too I need some story line … after all it is a comic book, right?

    • YogiGRB

i heard it in my head like you spoke it out in one breath 😀

      • Michael Jurado

Normally I try to use proper grammar but, I was excited xD.

        • YogiGRB

i noriced, thats why it happened. i’m exited to

  • Nintedward

    • Cgmusic

      summer update maybe?

  • uPadWatcher
    • Cgmusic

Maybe it’s time to do one for summer update. IDK it’s now summer if they haven’t noticed………-_-

      • DragonSilths

The Summer Update will probably be in the 2nd week of August.

      • Satoru Iwata

        Please be patient.

        • Srpg2ishere

        • Stephen Davis

OMG! I didn’t know the president of Nintendo comments on here 😛 Hello Mr. President! 😀

      • disqus_sgtob6da3X

        Got it this morning.

    • Ducked

      No, it’s direct to ‘U’

  • YogiGRB

    nice, can’t wait

  • Cgmusic

What ever happened to the summer update?!?!?

    • AlexG

it will be launched on august…

      • Fred

I hope because the Spring update didn’t speed mine up like most people are saying it sped theirs up.

        • DragonSilths

Even Wii U’s before the Spring Update were faster then Xbox 360’s.

          • Fred

            well I can’t comment on that as I only have a Wii U and a PS3.
I just know that getting out of a game and into the main screen takes over 30 seconds sometimes and frequently freezes the system.

          • DragonSilths

The Freezing issue should have been fixed with the Spring Update. When my Wii U got broken with the Blue Light Of Death, after getting it back from being fixed, which I got it back the day after the Spring Update, I did the update and not once since then has it frozen. You should send it to Nintendo they can find out whats causing it cause the amount of people who still have freezing issues is a lot smaller now. Its something wrong with the system at this point. Before it was Miiverse and the OS conflicting. So I recommend emailing Nintendo and asking them and sending it in to get checked out.

          • Fred

Thanks I guess I should do that. Although I hate the idea of going without if for a period of time as we use it every day.

  • Srpg2ishere

I will be buying wonderful 101. It looked awesome the moment I laid eyes on it. If you ask me I’m not worthy of touching It’s glorious box art with my filthy hands. Lol. jk.

  • Potemkin

“Should”, but anyways, something is better than nothing although they should use REAL advertisement.

  • John Raybell

This sucks, so pretty much, just like the last few Nintendo directs, just show stuff over and over meh

  • wober2

i am so glad nintendo could spend the effort to give us a web video of awkward business men and trailers.

  • discuss

I don’t think Nintendo gets the concept of advertising … Stop showing the same people the same thing while the rest of the world wonders what the Wii U is.

    • Jon

if people don’t know what the Wii U is by now, then they are retarded and if the world is like this, then we live in one sad little world. Like come on, using the excuse that people don’t know what it is is just dumb, I knew what it was the moment they first showed it.

      • sd

There are plenty of people that do not know what the wiiu is. there are also millions of gamers who just assume it is a crap wii gimmick. These gamers gloss over and ignore any nintendo information on sites. They need to be advertised to. The reason people like you am me knew what it was before it showed up is we sought to find out about it. Advertising is about giving people information so they want to go and find out.

        • Jon

lol, I never sought to find out what it was, they said it at E3 and In knew what it was. I must say, it is sad that people cannot tell what it is, it just shows how stupid people are becoming in this world. Down vote me all you want but from what people are claiming… that seems to be showing very well.

          • sd

Just for the record i havnt downvoted you. You have an opinion i replied to that. People just like to downvote people. Its like a sport I think.

My point was also that many people do not pay any attention to E3 or online game sites. I would say about half of people buying consoles walk into their local shop ( like walmart ) and buy a console and game without looking into it much. They do so because maybe their mates says it is a good console. Dont underestimate the stupidty of people for some things. You need to whack them in the face with information to get them to understand.

          • Jon

ok still, even if you shop at those places and NEVER look at a news site or watch E3 or any other conference where the system might be. How stupid do you have to be for someone who plays video games to look at that box, see the size, new logo and the the writing on the box and even the system on the box and think that it is an accessory to a 7 year old system? You have to be a complete moron or someone who grew up in the dark ages to think that.

          • sd

Like I said some people dont know about anything until you beat them around the head with it. Even then they will just say “uh, what was that”.

I got my Wii U at launch. It was/is a great console, just a shame I havnt had much to play on it. Nothing has appealed to me this year until resident evil came out, and that only took me 7 hours to finish. I tried MHU, but not my game. But I cant wait for my first pikmin game. More importantly W101 looks amazing to me.

          • oontz

That’s the problem though… the game shops I go to have a tiny little space (a few shelves) of wiiu stuff. The entire store is PS3, XB360, 3DS, and PSvita. If you just walked into the stores and glanced around, there is a VERY good chance you wouldn’t even see the wiiu items. I took my gamepad in to get a screen protector and the people who worked there knew NOTHING about it. They asked me if it was a portable system like the 3ds… and they WORK THERE!!! If the people who work at stores don’t know about the wiiu and what it does, then how can you expect the average consumer to know more?

          • Jon

lol, it’s at that time that you tell them they should get a new job. rofl, that is just pathetically sad. if what you guys tell me is true, the world is just getting pathetic

        • Linksawakeningisazeldagame

“there are also millions of gamers who just assume it is a crap wii gimmick.”
No. Any real gamer would know what the Wii U is.

          • sd

I know plenty of gamers that dont have any interest in the wiiU. it is not advertised and they assume that it is just like the wii. So maybe they think they know what it is, but usually they really do think its a gimmick like the wii mote. Seriously test my theory. Go on to a sony or xbox exclusive site and ask gamers of these system who do not own a wii u what they understand and think.

          • Linksawakeningisazeldagame

Your reply is almost irrelevant, because I said that any real gamer would know what the Wii U is.

BTW, the gamers I’m talking about (Real, not bias gamers) would like the Wii U as a console.

          • sd

LOL thats not bias at all.

            But it amused me anyway.

The first month owning the wii u my thoughts were simply ” This is the best console i have ever owned” ( owned all except ps2 and saturn). You just need people to play it to see.

The game drought is annoying, but its almost done. So roll on pikmin and w101.

          • Linksawakeningisazeldagame

            I agree.

    • sd

Yep, they are preaching to the converted alright. The directs are great to keep you interested, but for non nintendo fans…….

  • Jack5221

Im guessing the direct will come out some time before Pikmin 3 release.

  • zhenyaivan

Miiverse is an excellent tool to advertise new IP’s.
There’s a debate for you guys!

    • Jon

the only problem with that is the mii verse is people who already own the system

      • Linskarmo

It can be viewed online now, I believe, though you have to own a console to comment.

        • Jon

yeah I know it can be viewed online but here’s the thing. How many people use it online that don’t have a console because you need to have a nintendo ID to have it which means, yes you need a Wii U, At least until they bring it to 3DS owners.

  • XroyD

Dang! September feels soooooo far away!

  • sharlo galmo

I think we gonna see a Nintendo direct before august 26,because then is the release date for europe. Pikmin 3 26 juli and Wonderfull101 26 august.

  • Ducked

When’s the next Nintendo direct? Seriously hope it’s soon, I’m anxious to see it! 🙂

    • Satoru Iwata

Very, very soon. Please be patient, Donald. Calm the quack down.

      Thank you for the support.

      • Ducked

I’m Donald Duck, do you think patient is my thing?

      • Linksawakeningisazeldagame

        In other words, July-September.

  • TCar

As much as I HATE advertising, commercials, guess they need to ramp it up to get this team some sales!

  • sd

Nintendo direct is great for people not aware of this, but they need to advertise directly to people who currently dont have a wiiu. Give everyone a glimpse of their games.

  • incoherent1

During the E3 Direct, Iwata said there would be a Direct dedicated to W101. How is this news?

  • therealruben1

Good cause to be honest im still confused about what the wonderful 101 is

    • sd

The world is invaded by aliens. You have to save the planet. To do this you control red who is 1 super hero. Along the way the recruit other super heroes to help your cause and eventually build up 100 + 1 super heroes. Some people only lend you help for a short time, others the whole game. The more superheroes you have the greater your power.

To use your power you use the game pad. For this you draw a shape like an L which means a gun appears. The bigger the L shape the more powerful the gun, but the more it drains your energy to attack. There are many weapons, like s shape for whip etc. Some enemys can only be defeated by certain powers.

You also earn money and can buy upgrades and extra powers in a mart.

It looks like a new take on the old arcade classic games. Think gauntlet cross bayonetta with super heroes.

  • $41809923

good news make me going to buy this game

  • everyone

I love reading through his twitter. He likes to refer people who ask repeat and annoying questions to ‘ask their mom’.

  • Paul

It comes out on the 15th not 13th…btw

    • sd

End of August for me. Cant wait. Plus only 2 weeks for pikmin.

  • Sidney Majurie

Eerrrr… Iwata already confirmed this during the E3 Direct that there would be a TW101 specific Direct when they talked about TW101…

  • sd

Im not really sure why people are confused about what this game is. i watched 3 minutes of an ign video and it was pretty clear. i stopped watching as I thought there was too much information and I want to discover it for myself.

So if you are unsure go to ign and look at the latest W101 video.
Think new take on arcade classic. Gauntlet crossed with Bayonetta with super hero characters.

    • Andreas Sunde

People are usually not unsure. People assume, and they now assume the Wii U is a tablet controller for the Wii. And because they assume they know already, they don’t bother to check.

      • sd

Yeah I absolutely love the way people who have never played a wiiu hate it simply because they do assume they understand it. For me I cant explain the gameplay experience. Sure it is lacking games, but the ones I have played have offered me an amazing gameplay experience, i cant explain this experience. But its pretty awesome.

Unfortunately people will miss out, beacuse as you say they assume that it is a gimmick. I had an argument on here with a guy who hated all Nintendo games, he said they were for kids and hadnt changed. The funny thing is he also said he hadnt played a nintendo game for over 10 years. Yet he still insisted on his stance based on his assumptions.

I cant wait for my xbox one, but this is a different experience. Nintendo games are an experience you do not get on other systems. I should also say for anyone interested the Wii U is not like the Wii. Its more like the previous great consoles that people loved so much.

  • bugart19

I wasn’t interested in the Wonderful 101 but these last videos has gained my curiosity.

  • Linksawakeningisazeldagame

He didn’t confirm it, Iwata did in the E3 Nintendo Direct.

  • Aleks

Really hoping 101 is shmowzow, and not as short of a game as rumor suggests. Waited tooooo long to play a unique Wii U game. Please Rock.

  • kevin

I fnd it funny reading all ur comments. Nintendo with their direct videos is just advertising to people that already have a wiiu. That’s a poor ad, sorry. That’s like ads for a ford only to ford owners that just bought a ford.

The problem is people don’t know what a wiiu is or can do. Advertise to the general public.

I live in the us, and if it was going on wiiu sites, I could say I’ve not seen one ad for any wiiu or wiiu game since january.

If u don’t advertise to the general public, u will not get new people. Nintendo is thinking wii people will upgrade to a wiiu. They don’t know who bought the wii. The hardcore fans already have the wiiu. What’s left is those casual wii users and families. They are not jumping on game sites ready about the latest, if nintendo wants those casual gamers avertise to them, that means mainstream media.

When see ads in japan but not in the us.

  • Martijn Plasmans

Nintendo should do this more often. Even for Bayonetta etc.

  • Nintenjoe82

To WiiUDaily; +10 Journalism points for the last week or so, you’ve upped your game after a bit of a lull. 🙂

  • andré

the only game i am hyper for, is mario 3d land. and that is sad.

  • andré

the only game that i am hyped for , is mario 3d land. and that is sad man.

  • raiden777

They need to do commercials for this on cartoon network and similar channels like that, Nintendo needs to advertise on YouTube and maybe get some TV host to play it on their show or something. Get the word out.

  • jake

Whenever i like a game i promote it o my facebook, adding a link to pictures and a trailer.
