Over the past few days, tons of information about the upcoming Hyrule Warriors game has been released in Japan. Siliconera spoke with members of Tecmo Koei about the project and discovered that it wasn’t Nintendo who approached them, but rather they presented the idea to Shigeru Miyamoto, who then passed the idea on to Eiji Aonuma, asking him if he wanted to produce the game. Aonuma responded favorably to producing the project, which is why we have the collaboration we’ll see more of at E3.

So, it sparked my interest when I thought: ‘I wonder what a collaboration with The Legend of Zelda would be like.’ Shortly afterwards, Miyamoto told me, ‘The folks at Tecmo Koei are talking about a Zelda Musou. Are you interested?’ and I responded with ‘definitely!’

Perhaps the biggest revelation to come from all the Hyrule Warriors news in released in Japan is that the game will have a two player co-op mode, featuring one player using the TV to play, while the other uses the GamePad. Nintendo hasn’t confirmed this information, but given that the company spoke about showcasing projects that make specific use of the GamePad, this one sounds legit.

Will you be picking up Hyrule Warriors when it’s finally available?

Can’t wait for this game, hope they list a europe release date soon. it’s gonna be soo wicked that multiplayer

  • Yoshiwhirlwind

Two player gamepad co-op sounds awesome.

    • Rinslowe

Yep. If the news is legit. Then that’s what I signed up for…

      • “Sean” jjbredesen

Me to! Can’t wait for this game, i think it will be awsome!

        • nin-10-doughfan

me three! and i know it’ll be awesometaculare!^o^!:)

    • darkcreap

It is!!! I am most hyped for that feature only. It is great to play a brawler with friends in Story mode.

      • bob

Hopefully it has a story, and not the crumbs of story that dynasty warriors is known for. Haven’t played them recently as the story is severely lacking. I would hate a story rich series like zelda to be nothing more than a skin or mod. They also need to do good with the items and bosses.

    • It’s about time someone besides fricking SONIC RACING did it.

      • Nintenjoe82

The ‘Warriors’ game that’s already out has this feature according to my sources…. PS Lego does too!.

        • good to know. actually, CoD did it too. Pretty much everyone but Nintendo

          • MerryBlind .

CastleStorm too, and ZombiU has a Vs. mode. Indeed, everyone but Nintendo.

          • bob

3d world does it but not good. I thought the gamepad was the dumbest thing but then playing on there 2 player or without the tv, it is nice.

          • darkcreap

Yes, but correct me if I’m mistaken, you cannot go rogue with the gamepad screen, correct? I mean, the gamepad displays what the TV displays, you don’t have an independent screen. I wonder if Mario Kart has Independent play on gamepad screen.

EDIT: No, it does not. Too bad.

          • eh… it kinda does, but all it’s doing is mirroring, really

      • Fred

        Tank tank tank does it

      • It’s CALLED Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed;
        You can call it: SAASRT.

    • kentray1985

I wont support this game if its yet another co-op first party game without co-op online. I love the gamepad and its co-op feature but I also would love to play my co-op mario and zelda games online with my friends if Nintendo would quit ignoring it just to promote the co-op feature using the gamepad. As a consumer all I want is options, am I wrong for that!

  • Santiago

if only the graphics were a little more mature, or non-vulgar…

    • Miguel Angel Barrueta Hernánde

      non-vulgar? really?

      • metalpants

What’s the problem with “non-vulgar” graphics? Are you implying that people that want “vulgar graphics” can have what the want, but people that like to keep things clean can’t? Goes both ways, buddy.

        • Miguel Angel Barrueta Hernánde

im not implying anything jeez!, i just dont see this graphics beign that way, and of course people can ask anything they want

          • I think he’s refering to the skimpy villain in the game that seems unneccessarily sexualized. But of course, you would have to expect something like that with the involvement of Team Ninja.

          • metalpants

Right. I figured. And yep, she’s got Dead or Alive written all over her chest.

          • lonewolf

Team Ninja has only small say in this game the other game developer is the one making the decisions.

          • metalpants

Fair enough. It’s just that people lately get so defensive about censorship when they don’t seem to realize that other people don’t have their same taste for dirty stuff, or that they have kids and want to keep things clean. Nothing personal. Though I apologize if I made it sound like it.

          • asdfg

I think you are exaggerating a little bit. Ok, the villain shows a little cleavage, but that’s it. It’s not “dirty”. I’m assuming kids shouldn’t go to the beach, then. God forbid they see a woman in bikini.

          • Well, maybe when Hyrule Warriors releases a Beach expansion map, the outfit will make more sense.

          • asdfg

I think it makes a lot of sense, already. She is trying to impress Link, after all. I don’t think they sexualized her just for the sake of it. Sexuality isn’t wrong if it’s part of the character.

          • metalpants

xD, you call that a little cleavage? Any more cleavage and it’ll be the first M rated Warriors, lol. She could’ve been a great villain anyway without the unnecessary sexualization. I wouldn’t want my kids to think it’s normal to you know, do your thing on a daily basis while exposing yourself like clothes were an “option”. I want them to respect their bodies as well as others. A lot of crap can be avoided when people keep their hands and eyes to themselves. Nothing wrong with that.

          • asdfg

It’s not “unnecessary”, it’s part of her character. It’s also a great opportunity to teach your kids that the things they see on videogames can’t always be applied in real life.

          • metalpants

That I can agree with, so long as you see where I’m coming from ;).

          • asdfg

Oh, I definitely see it. It’s just that, as a woman, I get kinda offended seeing how negatively people reacted to a simple pair of breasts.

          • metalpants

Lol, I don’t think it’s that simple… remember, the (slight) majority of us gamers are guys… so yeah, if it has anything to do with a “killer” female body, they’ll make a big deal about it, lol.

          • asdfg

I see. But some people are blowing things out of proportion, some saying they won’t even buy the game because of it. Well, it’s their loss.

          • metalpants

            Oh wow… O_o that’s definitely a little too intense…

          • asdfg

Yeah, indeed. But I have a feeling that NoA will end up censoring it, so…

          • metalpants

            I wouldn’t be surprised… I guess we’ll find out at E3… :I *shrug*.

          • nick

I think if they censor the cleavage, that they may as well censor other everyday things such as male chests and nipples because as a male gamer I find that offensive. Lol

          • asdfg

They should’ve censored shirtless Link in TP. Sooo revealing and inappropriate.

          • JB

          • asdfg

            omg hahaha

          • Mario

            LOL! XD

          • uPadWatcher

          • Mario

Too late. I already did when I was a kid. 😛

      • Santiago

for me there is a place for everything, as someone below mentioned, a bikini is ok at the beach, but not ok in the street, or a mall. There are games like dead or alive, or that burst game where the main attraction are half naked women bodies, but Zelda is not such place. Zelda has more class than that

        • Miguel Angel Barrueta Hernánde

just because they have (exaggerated) cleavage, it doesnt mean that a person has no class

  • Rinslowe

The more I hear about this game. The better I’m feeling about it.
I think I’ll pick it up in any case, the latest screens have proven to me a decent art direction…
    Mostly (-_o)

    • Magnus Eriksson

Ehm… I think they are raping the franchise. The sexualization of Shia (if this was her name) gives me a bad feeling. Games that rely on cheap formulas like that tend to be crappy. Zelda series doesnt need that.

      • J_Joestar

Honestly, she isn’t really that bad and is fairly comparable to a number of other female characters in terms of clothing. The biggest difference is that art-style and in-game graphical quality simply makes you more aware of it.

As an original character, i don’t think it is such a big deal. Impa’s new design is attractive and still retains a modest aesthetic, i wouldn’t consider it an issue unless Zelda herself and any other reappearing females from the series are suddenly super sexualized compared to their more traditional appearances.

        • Guest

The you obviously never played Twilight Princess… 😉

      • Officer Raichu

        Blame team ninja 😛

      • Rinslowe

Ahh, it’s questionable on that one character so far. But taking it in context, this is Team Ninja we’re talking about here, ya know?
Gotta take the good with the bad sometimes. I choose to look past those things if the themes are for the most part – on the level.

I for one like the art direction.
        Overbearing sexualisation aside.
In this instance it’s barely at that point anyway…

        • lonewolf

Team ninja only has held ng hand in this game the real choises for the game are made by the other developer (which name I don’t remember).

          • Rinslowe

            It fit their MO.
But either way, it’s not really over the top stuff we’re talking about here…
            At least not imo.

          • The Unkown

The main developer is Omega Force. Team Ninja mainly helping/assisting.

        • Magnus Eriksson

          Hope you are right.

          • Rinslowe

Actually so do I. If it’s the main theme. I.E; in your face the whole time playing then, boo…
Something tells me though it should be mostly “all good”

      • JB

The you obviously never played OoT… 😉

        • Rinslowe

          Wait, is that Beyonce?

          • JB

Haha. You know, I never made that connection until you made it. I guess we know where she gets some of her inspiration! LOL

          • Dark Lord Sauron

          • Rinslowe

What the?!? Are those triceps? Whose face is that? Wha wha?

          • This is Queen Bey, in all her glory. I did not edit this in any way.

          • Rinslowe

Wow. Are there who’s the “man” competitions in her household? Does Jay-z ever win?

            These are genuine mysteries.

But in all seriousness, she “is” a talent of the entertainment industry.

          • Solange wins, apparently….

      • asdfg

Well… The sexualization of female characters usually makes me mad, but I’m okay with Cia. As I already commented, I think her sexualization fits her character and as long as she is more than boobs&ass I don’t see a problem. They were very respectful with Impa and will probably be with Zelda as well, so I don’t think they are sexualizing females just for the sake of it. (Then again I could be wrong, this is just my two cents based on what I’ve seen so far.)

      • The Clockwork Being

The you obviously never played Twilight Princess…. 😉

  • Ducked

Oh man if this has two player co-op using gamepad, that’s going to be awesome! I have a feeling I’m one of the few people here who has actually played Dynasty Warriors.

Just imagine if this game had online multiplayer…

    • Matthew Stapleton

The last actual Dynasty Warriors I’ve played was on the PS2. Although If you want to be specific, I guess having Dynasty Warriors Gundam on 360 would qualify too. Love the Gundam games. If they can work the Zelda storyline the way they did with Gundam, it should be well worth the wait.

      • palomino blue

I haven’t played one since PS2 either but I’m pretty excited for this one.

      • Ducked

I haven’t played Gundam. DW8 was really good in my opinion.

  • darkcreap

I will definitely take it to play with friends. It is the a bright idea to put the co-op+gamepad feature. I also love the gamepad play for two players in Call of Duty. No more people watching my movements to spoil my strategies!!!

  • Brendan Foley

The two player gamepad co-op seems highly likely, considering it’s already been done in Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper for the Wii U (and it worked very well in that game). Koei tends to build on previous improvements across the Dynasty Warriors franchise from what I’ve seen.

    • darkcreap

Hummm. And Hyrule Warriors is going to be like that game? I might consider that game too if I like Hyrule Warriors. Co-op mode in story mode is most awesome.

      • Brendan Foley

Considering Hyrule Warriors will be a dynasty warriors crossover game, I’d image they will have strong similarities, at least in many gameplay mechanics. Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper is a very fun game, especially if you have a second player (that makes the game significantly better. I didn’t play it much after I got it until I got a pro controller and someone to play with, then we played it almost exclusively for weeks).

  • mikeybruises

Its probably why the Wii U outsold the PS4 this week in Japan.

    3DS LL – 18,374 (18,350)
    PS Vita – 14,070 (12,810)
    Wii U – 9,024 (6,716)
    PlayStation 3 – 7,565 (7,339)
    PlayStation 4 – 7,543 (6,792)
    3DS – 4,850 (5,250)
    PSP – 1,479 (1,642)
    PS Vita TV – 1,142 (1,055)
    Xbox 360 – 202 (201)

  • LevenThumps

I really hope it supports two player gamepad co-op, and it is seeming more likely. The one thing that has been bugging me with Mario Kart 8 is that it doesn’t support gamepad co-op.

  • Destin Gilliard

Im definitely getting this looks like fun!!! ……hmmmm? gamepad co-op mario kart 8 what lol!!!

  • Virus6

Now Kamiya just needs to do that with Star Fox. Pitch the idea!

  • Brandon Gardner

As much as I am excited about this game, this “Zelda” game proves that Zelda Wii U is going to take a little longer to come out…..

  • Jeremy Baker

    Looking forward to it

  • ZeldaFanzzzz

I think this game is going to be good but not great. Visually, the game does look stunning but I fear that its going to have that same repetitive gameplay where you just hack and slash your way out.

  • Jackson five

I’ll get this one for sure. Haven’t played a dynasty warriors since ps2 was released but I’ve played plenty of Zelda since then.

  • RandroidRampage

I’ll definitely pick this up. Seems like a hella fun.

  • JB

I don’t think I’ve played a ‘Warrior’ game since the one that released during the PS2 launch window. (long time, I know) I enjoyed it well enough, so I’m pretty darn sure I’ll love the Hyrule Warriors, being it’s the Legend of Zelda and all!

Though, I wonder how the asynchronous multiplayer will work? Will player one be able to play on a different portion of the battlefield from player two? Is that how the Co-op worked for the ‘Warriors’ game already out for the Wii U? If anyone has played that game, is it worth a purchase?

  • Warren

I want to get the game!

  • Yousif Alromaithi

No matter what haters gonna hate, every devolper respects Miyamatto except EA.

  • Someone Cool

Cool a Co-op mode. I wonder if it will have online co-op. If it does, then we’re cooking with peanut oil.

  • Fred

Yes I’m planning on buying this game. 2-player co-op on a zelda game (yes I understand this is not a normal Zelda Game, but it is being produced by the same guy so I’m going to assume it’s also not a normal Dynasty Warriors game either). My wife and I loved playing Zelda 4-swords adventures together on the Gamecube-GBA and I can’t wait to play this with her using the TV and Gamepad for screens (much better than using GBAs as screens).

  • FlashFan207

Definitely would love a two player co-op action/adventure game. Are there any out now anyone would recommend to make the wait for this one a little easier to bear? Not counting MK 8, of course…

    • Fred

My wife and I enjoyed Tank Tank Tank. I didn’t play it, but Warriors Orochi 3 hyper.

      • FlashFan207

Cool! I see Tank! Tank! Tank! is free to download. I’m going to give it a shot. Thanks!

        • bistricky

Free to download ….. wow …. its actually a pretty decent game.

  • Noah

Miyamoto passed…..and that explains how Shia’s look got approval

    • uPadWatcher

Thanks to an assist from Team NINJA for giving that evil witch Cia a boob-job.

      • J_Joestar

to be fair, as far as we know she is completely original to this game so those are how she naturally looks.

  • Ashish Paul

  • C.S. Bailey

I’ll probably pick it up. I like wasting time on games like this, and the DW game isn’t getting much play time.

  • uPadWatcher

    Two words– HELL’S YEAH!!!!!!

  • steveb944

I was getting this since day 1 due to being Zelda related, but NOW I really really want it.

  • devmiles

and now hurry the F*** up with this game…
herro we are nintendo , we wiru rerease the game in 2015.. bye!
