Today Romino Games has announced it will be bringing Sword & Soldiers II to the Wii U. Check out the teaser trailer above. The game was announced via Twitter just a few minutes ago, so there’s not many details to relate but fans of tower defense style games will enjoy the game. While the first game featured the Vikings faction prominently, perhaps we’ll see another group feature in this game.

Did you play the first Sword & Soldiers game?

never played the first one…. whats the game like?

    • Fred

It’s a side scrolling strategy game. It originally came out on the Wii.
If you have an Android phone you can download the demo (the first several levels) for free.

    • MerryBlind .

Pretty sure there’s a demo on almost all platform, at least there was on PS3 (and Android too it seems according to Fred) I never got to buy it, but I thought the demo was actually pretty great to be honest.

If this one is at least as good as the 1st one, I’m definitely getting it on Wii U as soon as it’s release (gotta support 3rd party y’know lol) because the different choices of control schemes of Wii U and 2-screens vs. multiplayer is a big plus for this kind of game.

  • Fred

I loved the first one! I’m excited for the 2nd.

  • BIG Franky

I’m still hoping KINGDOM RUSH heads on over to Wii U….

    • cthreep

That’s a great game, I played it on the ol’ AddictingGames.com

  • Carlos Coronado

The first one was very cool

  • darkcreap

tower defense? Does that mean pointer-based interface? If so, that is great for a console with a remote pointer (Wii mote) and touch screen based controller.

In fact, PC strategy games would work fine.

This reminds me that Plants vs Zombies would be a perfect fit for that great touch screen that the WiiU gamepad has.

It is shocking that Blizzard ported Diablo III for the PS4 and not for the WiiU. I mean, I understand there is an economic reason why they don’t do it (probably it wouldn’t sell enough), but it would be perfect for the WiiU’s touch screen.

    • Ace J

how is that “shocking” that the wii u didn’t get diablo 3? i’m shocked that you’re shocked.

      • Entropyguy

Exactly. It’s hardly shocking, but maybe disappointing? I know I’d buy D3 on the Wii U.

        • Ace J

well in my opinion i would have been disappointed if it came to the xbox one also and not the wii u. and i didn’t have a ps4.

    • MerryBlind .

Yeah the Wii version used the Wiimote I believe, 360 used the standard controller, PS3 gave you the choice of standard controller or Move, and PC standard controller and mouse. (Maybe the Wii version also supported the Classic controller, I don’t know).

If you like that type of game, try out CastleStorm, it’s on all platform, but it’s much better on Wii U because of touch controls and 2-screens multiplayer compared to the splitscreen of other versions.

      • darkcreap

        Thanks for the recommendation!!

    • MerryBlind .

And Diablo III sucks anyway. I’d love to see an Action-RPG exclusive to the WiiU though, the gamepad would be perfect for inventory, maps, journals, etc.

Man… Is mk8 and ssb the only games this year?

    • Kaihaku

Other upcoming 2014 retail games include… Monolith Soft’s X, Watch Dogs, Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2, Sonic Boom, and a handful of other titles. So the retail scene is shaping up to have about as many titles as last year, which I find to be a bit disappointing…though hopefully Nintendo has some surprises on the way…but the download scene is seeing a lot of great activity.

      • Marcus Larsson

I dont know to much about X yet, watch dogs im thinking about getting on ps4 depending on delay or me owning a ps4 by then, hyrule warrior im not interested in. Hated dynasty, to repetive.
Bayonetta looks nice and sonic im holding of for the reviews.

        Lets hope for some surprises

    Hurray for gameplay-less trailers …

    • lonewolf

This is a teaser for the trailer

      • Mayoo

Oh you mean like when I receive an email saying to me that I will receive another email shortly?

        Pretty useless.

  • Kevin Sepulveda

    This trailer showed me nothing…

  • Kaihaku

I got the original through a Humble Indie Bundle and played it on the PC…. Thought it was interesting but handled poorly – didn’t like the control scheme. I’d very like to give it another try on a platform that it was built from the ground up for.

    • MerryBlind .

Well on PS3 it was pretty fun with the Move controller, though I only tried the demo. I imagine Wiimote works even better since it’s a better ‘pointing’ device, and the GamePad touch controls should be even better than mouse on PC.

  • MerryBlind .

hahaha!!! I JUST commented about this like a week ago on Destructoid!!! I’ll just post my comment here instead of paraphrasing lol:

“They should release this on Wii U too. The gamepad would be perfect for it. With it, when playing local multiplayer, both players would have their own screen (TV/Gamepad) instead of Splitscreen, and touch controls would be a perfect fit too, in addition to Wii remote and Pro controller support obviously for 2nd player or for people who prefer those.
I’m playing Castlestorm right now and it’s as if it was made for the Wii U. Touch controls work great, and local 2 players with 2 screens is nothing short of genius.”

Like I said, it would be a perfect fit. I don’t how the 2nd game will turn out, but if it’s anything like the first one, having the choice between Touch Controls, Wiimote, and Pro Controller, would be awesome.

(I also wish CastleStorm would get Wiimote support too, wouldn’t require much work as it works essentially like a mouse)

  • thedeciderU

    great trailer…

When the first one came out, they gave prizes to the first 3 people to complete all the in-game achievements. I was first in the United States. Got some cool stuff. Totally excited about the new game!
