The Nintendo Switch Online app is rolling out to regions around the world, letting players get their first taste of what voice chat and inviting friends will be like on the Switch. However, the staggered roll-out revealed some interesting information.

Unlike other apps that still run while you’re browsing the internet, checking your social media profiles, or just don’t have the app open at that second, the Switch Online app won’t work. You can only talk to your friends while the app is up. So, don’t even think about Snap-chatting or Facebooking while you’re chatting with xXMarioLoverXx in Splatoon 2.

At this time, the app seems to be available only in Australia. We’ll make another post when the roll-out has reached more regions. For now, the app is only compatible with Splatoon 2.
