Recent NPD sales figures revealed that the Switch had a very good launch year. In fact, we now know that the Switch has had the best first 10 months of any console in US history, and that includes the legendary PS2 and Wii consoles — the two best selling home consoles of all time.

“On a time-aligned basis through the first 10 months on the market, Nintendo Switch has sold more consoles than any other platform in history,” NPD’s Mat Piscatella said.

The Switch was also the best selling console in December, the most important month when it comes to video game sales.

And it was a good month: consumers spent $3.3 billion on video games in December in North America, an increase of 10% compared to last year.

Of that, $1.22 billion was spent on console hardware and $1.24 billion on console software. Another $735 million was spent on gaming accessories.

Finally, NPD reports that PC gaming accounted for just $40 million, which isn’t a surprise since most PC games are sold digitally and most of the digital stores do not share their sales data.
