With the upcoming release of Super Mario Maker, Nintendo has begun sharing more details about how the gameplay will work. They’re taking an unorthodox strategy with some of the tools in the game, as you’ll unlock more over time the more days you play, rather than having everything available immediately. Some people see this as an incentive to keep playing every day to unlock everything while others have called it “gating” content.

Nintendo Everything has a quick look at available options on Day 2 of the game, compared to Day 9. You can see your options expand quite a bit the more you play, which also means Nintendo won’t be flooded with extremely complex levels within the first few days of the September 11 launch.

What do you think of this strategy?
