Nintendo has revealed its first TV commercial for the new Super Mario 3D World, which will hit store shelves on November 22 in North America. The commercial highlights the local co-op featured in the game, as well as the cat suit power up that Nintendo has discussed at length.

The commercial gives a good look at the game while advertising it as the “next Mario adventure”. This is a great look at what we can expect to see airing soon and one of Nintendo’s better efforts at advertising a game. Let’s just hope that Super Mario 3D World is the game-changer that Iwata hopes it will be.

The need a pro-controller in there (if it works with this game). Since they say they want to avoid confusion between the Wii and Wii U. People will maybe see the Pro controller knowing it is not a normal Wii controller (plus they are the new mario and Luigi ones so you want to advertise them too) and then they can still use their own controllers from the Wii to play the Wii u games.

    • Deadpool U

Apparently the pro controller does work from what I’ve seen in gameplay videos.

    • jjmesa14

Or maybe they will see it as an XBOX 360 game because the controllers look similar. jk

  • wiiant

Day one purchase. Can’t Wait! I would also love pro controller compatibility. I’d bet it will happen.

  • long_dong_donkey_kong

Great. Now just put this ad on TV. Over the past two weeks, I have not gone one commercial break during the NFL or World Series without seeing ads for Assassin’s Creed or Call of Duty.

    • D.M.T

This is a TV commercial so of course they will put it on TV.

      • long_dong_donkey_kong

Can you remember the last Wii U commercial you saw on non-children’s programming?

        • long_dong_donkey_kong

But why would you advertise solely to people who don’t have money? Certainly maintain the ads there because you want kids nagging their parents for a particular product, but they have to do more. You can see ads for the Monsters University Blu Ray during the NFL. The target audience is the same for Pixar as it is for a Mario game: families and parents who would prefer their kids aren’t playing ultra violent games.

        • D.M.T

I saw Wii U commercials in theaters and TV so youΒ΄re wrong. Nintendo is not just a kidΒ΄s company, itΒ΄s for everybody.

        • lonewolf88

yes adult swim during toonami had pikmin 3 commercials and toonami reviewed the game and gave it a 9.5.

        • Martijn Plasmans

Nintendo is very bad at this, at least heren in the Netherlands the only ad i saw was for Luigi’s Mansion from Nintendo in the last months.

        • Kevin Sepulveda

Well their Target Market are children so it makes sense that it is primary the place you will find their TV ads

    • gtosheex

that’s because that’s not their target audience – you should see some on cartoon network, nickelodeon, and disney though.

      • Martijn Plasmans

Parents have the wallets. So off course their audience is watching NFL.

        • gtosheex

oh really? so why don’t we see kid’s commercials all over nfl network? lol.

  • Eric

Excited for this game πŸ™‚ Got my Wii U with Zelda few weeks ago, and then my second game will be this πŸ™‚

    • Niknique

Yeah i’m excited for this game to. I’m gonna invite my friends over and we’re gonna play this along with Wii Party U! πŸ™‚

  • Smeagol

Dat cat goomba at the end!

    • darkcreap

      Hadn’t seen it. Too right.

  • Rugmouse

Your post started out fine, then you bring up sexual orientation? What does that have to do with anything?

    • Just flag and move on. He has sexual insecurity issues he needs to work out. I mean how low of a piece of shit does one have to be to continually attack a group of people and make up lies based on personal bias and ignorance?

      • Rugmouse

I know, I shouldn’t have even brought it up. I was just so disappointed in the comment. Truthteller can and has been capable of bringing up solid counter-arguments, but so often degrades back to this kind of behavior. I guess I just expected more. I’ll step aside now.

        • Occasionally he can bring up good points but it is his know it all attitude and his continual attacks on other people that will never allow me to take him even remotely seriously. It is sad that such bigotry and ignorance like this still exists today. I guess some people evolve faster than others.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Actually I agree. Truthteller can be a fresh air here, but he gets a bit unintresting the moment he start to spread hateful comments about homosexuals or starting with racist stuff. Its not even at the level of trolling anymore.

    • darkcreap

Do not feed the troll. It is pointless and will motivate him to continue trolling.

  • LevenThumps

Glad to see that they’re starting to advertise this game. Nintendo has been lacking of advertisements in the past, which is part of the reason the WiiU is having low sales. Hopefully more games will get TV spots as well when it’s close to their release.

  • Rugmouse

I really think they need to refresh their ad campaign. We saw these same sorts of ads with the Wii. We need a new idea to associate with the new console.

I don’t know if any of you saw the Aunoma’s Link Between Worlds ad, but it was creative, cheesy, and above all memorable – I loved it. They need to do something similar here. Even to this day, I can still remember the TV ad for the original Smash Bros.

  • Nathan DeFalco

is “job” the new euphemism for “dick”?

  • The Clockwork Being

Great, now put more ads for all games. W101, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Wii U vs Wii. This holiday season better be full of ads. I am all for believing that Mario will change the Wii U`s situation but with no ads talking about the difference between Wii U and Wii and other games it will only do good not outstanding. Unless Mario is the game that will force people to go to stores and realize the 2 consoles are different. Now that, that would be funny.

  • Rugmouse

So not being in entertainment or politics allows you to speak about a group of people in a condescending connotation?

It’s funny, I actually agreed with your post (see above for my thoughts on the commercial) – but your insinuation was just downright rude. It’s amazing how desensitized to everything society has become.

  • Magnus Eriksson

You sure think alot about gays. Are you insecure of your own sexuality? πŸ™‚

  • Magnus Eriksson

My daughter will get this for christmas. I bet she will love to play with princess Peach as a kitten. πŸ™‚ I was going to get DKCF for myself, but maybe Ill get an 3DS or a PS3 instead. Havent decided yet. πŸ™‚

  • The Clockwork Being

But I saw that you loved the Wii U. And you still haven`t answer to my other post. I see. Once someone presents you with real knowledge and the truth, your pseudonym becomes but a dire irony. A mockery of what it really is. Just like a troll! FOOL!

    • darkcreap

      Do not feed the troll.

      • The Clockwork Being

        Yeah sure.

  • I think this game will be great but the commercial is a bit cheesy. Either way if they put this out on the right channels it will do good things to get the word out.

  • Justagamer

You are late on this one Wii U Daily this came out yesterday..Just saying!

  • rp17

Btw people who aren’t sure, pro controller had been confirmed for a long time now.

    • Lusunup

sure hope you can use wii mote and nunchuk as well…

    • Kevin Malone

Got four new Pro Controllers from the States (two for $20, another two for $15) on eBay, pre-ordered Super Mario 3D World. I am good to go.

  • AlienFanatic

Man, did they hit those kids with Xanax or something? As usual the latest Nintendo commercials are bland and flavorless.

    Mario 64 commercial:

    Super Mario World Commercial:

    Mario Galaxy Commercial

Compared to those, the kids playing SM3DW look like they were forced to go to church. Look at the PS4 and XB1 commercials and then look at this thing again. This is supposed to be THE FLAGSHIP title for Nintendo this Christmas and I’d rather visit my dentist.

    • he

      I feel your pain bro.
It really sucks to see the direction Nintendo is taking with Mario.

      • he

This is the game they are expecting to go up against ps4 and xboxone with?! A game with princes peach dressed as a kitten?!

  • Felix

    More Kids/Family commercials.

Go Nintendo. Hardcore gamers are watching this commercials.

    • Gregg

LOL. Is a hardcore gamer somebody who only enjoys shooting people? that’s funny stuff.

    • starwars360

Hahahaha I am hardcore gamer who spent gaming for long time with mix kind of genre games from first-person shooter, steatlh action, platformer to racing, RPG and more. So I still look forward Super Mario 3D World. I am huge fans of Mario. I enjoy Super Mario series. πŸ™‚

      • Felix

i didnt say that super mario 3D world is not for hardcore gamers.

what i said, is that the freaking ads are always with kids/families.

        LAME ADs.

  • Gregg

So, you have a problem with GAY people? And, please show me an OLD FASHIONED game, that looks, runs, and plays, like Super Mario 3D world. Wait, you are an ASS. Don’t bother.

  • Gregg

OLDER gamers will play this game also. Those of us who grew up on Super Mario, and made him a mega star. This commercial, for a clearly excellent game, is aimed smack at kids and parents. But, PARENTS, like me, are likely a huge audience for this game. I assume this will air on kid oriented shows/channels, but, we need an add aimed at the older audience as well. I am 37, and know many others my age, who are counting the days for this….

    • Michael Ocampo

17 MORE TO GO!!! πŸ˜€ (not counting today)

  • Magnus Eriksson

That is kind of hateful. But why are you talking so much about gays then? The last three months you are probably the one I saw write the word “gay” the most. Or comments about “sucking dick”, and “despicable acts” between gays and the like. You must think awful lot about those kind of things, otherwise you wouldnt write about it. Have you ever sat down and thought about that you might be gay yourself? But that you think its wrong, and therefore must talk about it in an aggressive way? It is very plausible, and somewhat likely. And of course nothing to be ashamed of πŸ™‚

  • Magnus Eriksson

No, you talk alot about gays. And its ok. But you should really reflect upon why. Why do you think that much about gays? How does it make you feel? Angry? Sad? Excited? Happy? Warm? Disgusted? All those feelings are highly likely only expressions for the same thing, you might be gay my friend. πŸ™‚

  • Assassinated23

    She’s a furry!

  • bizzy gie

NOW PUT THIS ON TV EVRYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Leo

Shut up you pathetic troll! You are embarrassing yourself!

    • NkoSekirei

ignore him hes just plain retarded

  • BIG Franky

anyone else notice the two on the right are using the new Mario & Luigi remotes? awesomeness… WANT.

  • beerkin

What mario needs is this. Photorealistic graphics, boobs, military meapons, huge knives, qtes, cutscenes, online deathmatches, mature themes like rape, and murder. mario needs a full industrial metal sountrack with dubstep. they should kill of luigi at the very beginning of the game and make the next mario a revenge tale called kill bowser.

  • Michael Ocampo

This is pretty cool! But I want to see this as much as if not more as the Call of Duty: Ghosts ad. Not just from this game either.

  • NkoSekirei

ur such a dik just do us all a favor and stfu dude

  • he

As a 25 year Mario veteran, I really can’t say I have much hope in this game.
When I saw this at e3 I was crestfallen. Its basically 3D land with cats and multiplayer plus some influence from probably everybody’s least favorite Mario: mario bros 2. Not good enough. This won’t even come close to the best Mario platformers.
    The best Mario platformers are:

    1. Super Mario Galaxy 2
    2. Super Mario World
    3. Super Mario Galaxy
    4. Super Mario 64
    5. Super Mario Bros. 3
    6. Super Mario Bros.
    7. New Super Mario Bros.
    8. Super Mario Land 2
    9. Super Mario Bros 2
    10. Super Mario Land
    11. Super Mario Sunshine
This game is going to fall somewhere between Super Mario Land 2 and New Super Mario Bros.

    • WideAwake

Would love to hear your opinion on Super Mario Sunshine. I do see many faults with it, but it still plays well, and if Nintendo fixed these faults it could be one of my favourite games ever

      • he

Well, it is as you said; there are many faults with it.
It was just uninspired and incipid compared to games in my top 5 above. There was nothing really exciting about it.
Just look at the power ups and compare them to say a Mario Galaxy, look at how Yoshi is used and compare it to world or galaxy 2.
It was very un Mario like in it’s design, just look at the enemies, one look and you will see that these are not Mario enemies. Look at the design of the piantas, it just spells uninspired. I think they tried way too hard to make it different. So much so, that from time to time it seems the designers felt it necessary to remind us that “hey this is a Mario game”. Example, the levels where your water pack ( don’t get me started on that nonsense concept ) is taken away, and the times when you go underground delphino and you can’t see yourself. It feels forced. Everything from, the level design, the boss fights and the overall concept just seemed uninspired. To cap it off, it was just a really boring game.
It was the only 3D Mario where i just couldnt be bothered to get all the stars ( once i beat Bowser that was it for me ). That is quite telling.

After 11 years im still trying to forget that game.
Simply put; the very worst of all The Mario platformers.

  • Jackson Cota

Only problem with commercial. The cat girl. enough said.

    • Kevin Malone

Seems random, but I think it was meant to emphasize that Peach is a playable character and has her own suit (specifically the pink cat suit, and I see Nintendo has been showing off the cat suit quite a bit, including on the game cover and trailers).

After all, they could have had one of the other players show off a suit for Mario, Luigi, or Toadstool, but they just happened to choose Peach.

For the “main” Mario games, considering I only recall Peach being playable in Mario 2 (and only by accident, as the game was not initially Mario and did not include Peach), they might consider this a notable enough addition to the game, and an attempt to attract female gamers in general (alongside the inclusion of female gamers in the commercial*).

Is it silly? Definitely. But it is being noticed, I suppose, if the implications I am guessing about above actually exist, and other people have actually been seeing it, too (or maybe it is just in my head, which is a definite possibility). The way I see it, a lot of “politics” went into how the commercial was framed, and silliness was just a way of presenting the politics of it without seeming overbearing in the message.

      * Nintendo sees Super Mario 3D World as their potential “game-changer,” a “flagship” selling point for their Wii U this coming holiday season, and they have clearly been marketing to “family” in general. But in this commercial there is emphasis specifically on four children, two male, two female, rather than the more general children + parents I would expect.

      • Jackson Cota

After reading this I personaly agree with you!

        • Kevin Malone

By the way, just read the following from the just-launched Super Mario 3D World website, specifically on the “Character” page when you click “Princess Peach”: “This time, the princess is the one doing the rescuing. Her special
floating ability helps her across any obstacle that comes her way.” That first sentence is like a nod to that point about Peach not having been a playable character. Also, another new trailer for a different Wii U game seems to emphasize the idea that Nintendo is making a point to include women in their advertisement scheme:

          • Jackson Cota

      • FutureFox

Peach had her own game “Super Princess Peach” for the DS.

        • Kevin Malone

Yeah, I know, that’s why I said the “main” Mario games. I should have clarified: by that I mean those “flagship” Mario games that are considered some of the main attractions on Nintendo consoles.

By the way, that reminds me how interesting I thought it was that in Super Princess Peach, Peach’s powers are literally derived from her mood swings (e.g., she cries to literally wash enemies away), heh. In Super Mario 3D World, her powers are, let us say, more conventional, or not gender based.

  • Kevin Malone

I like how it just showed the guys and gals both enjoying a good game, as opposed to the this-is-for-real-men-real-gamers vibe I got from the Xbox One commercial where four guys are in army gear tearing it up, and the only female was a highly sexualized gamer (wasn’t that the actress Megan Fox?) that one of the guys immediately hits on. Don’t get me wrong, the commercial was humorous, but I definitely get a different idea from both commercials about audience and what it means to be a gamer.

  • JeanPaul

    >_> the girl into a cat suit…. >_> I find that kind of dumb…
