Metroid Wii U
It’s not secret that we’ll eventually see a Metroid Wii U game, and artist Rick Kohler has created an amazing piece of concept art that just makes us wish this was Metroid for the Wii U. It’s dark, gritty, yet colorful and detailed. Fun fact: Kohler actually works for Epic Games, makers of the upcoming Unreal Engine 4. In fact, it’s been rumored that Epic has taken over duties from Retro Studios to create a Metroid Wii U game. Yes, we know it’s quite far fetched, but when Metroid eventually comes to the Wii U console, we would be blown away if it ends up looking like this concept art. Of course, this concept art wasn’t necessarily made to show off Metroid, it could have been any game. But we really wish it was Metroid 🙂

What do you think? Is this too dark and gritty for a Metroid game? Let us know in the comments section!

woooow graphics engine so I like metroid prime 4 wii u .. lol unreal engine 4 is the maximum .. Greetings from Venezuela

  • david6

Well to me it depends on what the console box looks like. If its another white wii, then all the games should have rainbows fairys unicorns candyland. And will samus show more skin?

    • david6

Yah its nice, get alot of these. But google ‘images’ Nintendo Stream” Stream is the future, Wii is the past. I hold my peace.

      • david6

And see if can find black and crome one standing, click on and wiiu gamer art concepts, the glassy blue one is nice but i want red. And there all nice. Project cafe stream design concepts. And stop hating me.

  • Swic11

I think this would be sweet as hell for a meteors game. This would take it to a whole new level, it looks hardcore, and there is nothing wrong with a bit of realism.

The concept art is cool, but I hope they wouldn’t make a game that uses that display. Games need to be very clear so that information can be understood at a glance. How cool would a Metroid movie be I wonder? Oh, that would be so awesome!

  • Captain Olimar

If epic took over duties for metriod it would be a step in the right direction bringing back the hardcore gamers to Nintendo and introducing many more to an underrated franchise.

Metroid is a great game and it has some great graphics for a nintendo game sorry i have been nothing against it i just been playing my brothers call of duty black ops game On the his x box and its actullay fun but iam going to stick with zelda games iam better at those games

  • Skozo

I love this concept, love the art and feel of it being darker to feel more of a lonesome journey. The only problem it’s Epic Games, I just don’t trust they are familiar enough with the game as much as Retro and not very well untuned either. If they worked with or under Retro then I would have no doubt how amazing the game would be.
Wii-U is absolutely the future of gaming and it’s Nintendo saying “Oh, so we are obsolete and kiddy now? BAM! Compete with this- obsolete.”

    • nathant16

Nintendo needs to learn to port with epic not the other way around. Epic are the worlds leading game maker.

    • alienfish

No matter the developer, the game direction would still lie with Nintendo. Hiring an able developer to do the grunt work for a game isn’t the same as letting them do whatever the hell they want with it. If you look at the storyboard gallery from Metroid Prime you’ll see that some things, all aesthetic, were left up to Retro while the entire game had already been laid out by Nintendo.

      • Skozo

Actually. . . Nintendo didn’t even expect it to become FPS and all they did was give some ideas as having some fixed most of the art work and design was Retro, hell Nintendo didn’t even know how to make the ball idea work but Retro did. Boss design, atmosphere, enemy design, character design, the works. Nintendo wrote the game (exception with some work on 3 and Hunters) and helped put in ideas but all was Retro, hell the only thing Miyamoto didn’t like was the sound.

  • Dan7el(WiiU day one purchase)

I don’t want a Metroid that looks like Bioshock. Metroid has it’s own feel to it and it it’s not some gory thing. It has to feel atmospheric and creepy without being over the top gory or grotesque. If I get a metroid that M for mature that would be different for sure. As long as it has a great soundtrack like the prime games and is beautiful and atmospheric than that would awesome.

    • Skozo

Anime fans. . . Dark does not mean gory nor bloody. There are many more ways to do do, like less light, gritty, dirty, rubble, etc.

  • uPadWatcher

If that rumor is true that Epic Games were to develop a Metroid game powered by Unreal Engine 4, this would blow the freaking roof off the Nokia Theater and claim Nintendo’s flawless victory!!!!!

  • Death

If this is true, than I’m sincerely hoping that they make 2 seperate games for starfox and metroid.

    • david6

Lol, starfox and samus in same game, it just kind of hits me wrong. Why not put master chief with tye taz tiger. Well no actually that could work if you put tye in armor and all? Actualy starfox and samus might work, riding in spaceship. (Clonazepam makes everything better.) Ha ha

  • will_rkr

I wonder wow awesome the enemies would look like if this concept was the final game.

  • BlueFalcon

If Epic is really making a Metroid game for Wii U powered by Unreal Engine 4, then I will totally get blown away for real! And that WILL bring the Hardcore gamers back to Nintendo for good! if the rumor is true could they show in E3? I would LOVE to see!

  • A1424andy

    wow :O looks amazing.

  • link

Oh my lord this looks amazing. I think this would be perfect for a metroid prime game. I don’t think that it should be gory or bloody. That just not what metroid games are like. And by the way david6, whats wrong with you? You said, “will samus show more skin?” Metroid prime is not a porn game. Its an action adventure fps. I’m not saying she’s not hot, but like I said, Metroids not a porn game.

  • AndyC

Metroid needs to be more like Dead Space

    • Matt

Metroid was already like Dead Space in alot of ways. Remember the beginning of Prime 1 and Prime 2, and the wrecked Valhalla ship in Prime 3? It was pretty awesome too.

  • Tony

Did no one else notice that this particular concept art was added back in 2010? Scrapping the bottom of the barrel eh?

  • Horror

Sure to be a much better game Then M:OM

Seriously i love every Metroid game thats come out even the Primes but M:OM was horrible, the 2D to 3D was cool but no weapon upgrades only “unlocks” making Samus whining all the time, shes suppose to be a tough, hardcore Bounty Hunter thats killed thousands of creatures and even destroyed a few planets!

Oh and please please please! new upgrades and more of them!

  • Chris P. Bacon

A metroid game with similarities to dead space, in the way that it is very suspenseful and freaky, would turn out to be an outstanding game. metroid needs to step away from being so cartoony. Bring back the real longtime fans Nintendo!

  • Mayonnaise-Banana

This isn’t Metroid concept art. This is a pretty obvious fake. The HUD is just what you see of the HUD in Halo 3 over a screenshot of some dark urban shooter. Also, the Prime series created the genre FPA, (First Person Adventure) so respect that.

  • SideScreamer

So it isn’t a piece of Metroid concept art, but you label it that it is?
    What the fuck?

  • dojo

metriod is a big game metriod prime 4 looking like this in my opinion its to die for if its like this

  • Sergio

Its a little too Dark & Gritty in my Opinion, Metroid has been known too have a more colorful and vibrant feel to it.

    • Maybe it’s a part of the game where the lights are off? Metroid is known to have brightly lit places and dim/dark rooms alike. 😛

  • Teves153

Six guys but I don’t think there will be a prime 4. Soz

  • Aaron S

    woo…. if only
