Sony wishes Nintendo well with the Wii UDespite being avid competitors, Sony has issued a statement wishing Nintendo good luck with the Wii U console. Sony Computer Entertainment president Jack Tretton said that “Nintendo has a great heritage in the business, they certainly surprised a lot of people with the success of the Wii”, saying that a “rising tide lifts all boats”, and that he wished Nintendo a lot of success with the Wii U.

Sony has been rather critical of the Wii U in the past though, saying that its PlayStation 3 and PS Vita are better than the Wii U, which sounds crazy no matter how you cut it. But as Sony says, a rising tide lifts all boats, and hopefully the Wii U can lift the gaming industry out of the current slump it’s in. Sony is rumored to release their next generation console next year.

The Wii U officially launches today, and has been available in stores since midnight last night. We got our Wii U and a bundle of games, and we’ll start reviewing it very soon.

    • AKA-Link77

i have to say that i appreciate the comment but somewhere in my mind is saying Sony hopes they do well just to copy it. (idk how much they can do that anymore tho. . .)

      • Troll patrol.

Sony is trying to curse us with their bad luck off the vita
”Here Nintendo! , good luck with the wiiu just like how you wished us good luck with the vita……….bitch!”

        • Matthewmc685

I remembered that! Nintendo of Japan was all You have some very nice hardware there Sony just before they started adding lots of software to the 3DS and went on to be 47 3DS’s to 1 Vita that week. I do feel bad for them because I want a Vita to play things like Gataro Man; I wish them luck too as some (not all) so there first party is awesome.

        • Cugno the Swiss

Tell what you want, but sony has undeniably good exclusives… ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, Heavy Rain, the (sigh) Tales series (which kinda became an exclusive), Ni No Kuni…
By the way, if somebody starts a legacy to bring Ni No Kuni and/or Tales of Xillia to the Wii U, just let me know, I won’t buy a PS3 for two games.

  • HyrulianUtopia

They finally came to their senses.

    • Nko Sekirei

except for the trolls they have no sense and have no taste either

      Β¬_Β¬ Lucky…

  • Superstick

Thanks for the support Sony President. We wish you well with PS4, too. πŸ˜‰

    • Nintyfan

That was nice of Sony. Didn’t see that comin from Jack! LOL XD

    • Nintedward

Yeh , good luck tanking Sony!
Unfortunately for Sony , Luck won’t play a part for them as The wiiu and 3DS come plowing through.

    • LazerK

I just wish things would go back to being like the PS1 and PS2 era.Now THOSE were incredibly awesome consoles and I’m sure anyone who owned one will agree with me

      • goginho

I haven’t owned a PS1, but I played one a lot. My friend had one, and I had an N64, and we’d spend equal time on both and enjoyed both equally. We didn’t really care about the label on the console, if we wanted the Marios the Zeldas, Donkey Kongs, Conker…etc, he’d come over to my place. If we felt like playing Metal Gear Solid, Gran Truismo and such, I’d come over to his. Oh, and he had a game called Nightmare Creatures, lol. We never got around to beating that though, but good times those were πŸ˜› Now it’s just about console wars, what’s better, what’s got more horsepower and such.
What a shame. There was a time where people didn’t care.

      • AwesomeNES

I never had a PS1, graphics were wayy better on the N64.
But, the Final Fantasies were Awesome, FF8 was my favorite as well as Legend of Dragoon and FFVII.

      • AwesomeNES

I also loved Goldeneye on the N64. That was the best FPS for that era.

  • Kris

Of course, they do. Simply because Vita+PS3 will do everything Wii U can do some time. Why should Sony go for a market that is not big? πŸ˜›

    • Nko Sekirei

ur an idiot dude wii u is 80 to 100 percent more powerful then vita and ps3 put together so stfu troll

    • TheDavyStar

Yeah and ps3 + vita is cheaper…GET A GRIP MISTER!

Yay! Gamers at temporary harmony! This is what it should be like. If only all the haters would follow the him πŸ™‚

  • immallama

Oops… Auto fill put my email in there… lol

    • U and Mii

      Everybody spam him!

      • immallama

        lol, hell nah πŸ˜›

      • revolution5268

hell no im not wasting my time on that.

  • TheDavyStar

I…don’t know how to respond to that. Rival companies being nice to each other?!

    • Nintyfan

They are still allies at the end.

Without one another there is no competition. And when there’s no competition no company will strive to make the best console.

      • Still need to get a Wii U :(

I agree. If there was only Microsoft to compete with then the competition would only be producing garbage and charging more for what you already paid for.

      • TheDavyStar

True. I have this idea that if I study hard in business and IT, that I’ll be able to propose a cheap android console and marketing strategy that’ll bring all companies together…really though, check out my sketch book!

        • TheDavyStar

So what you said helps me re-think it through.

        • AwesomeNES

Too late, it already exists, it’s called Ouya!

      • revolution5268

yeah why do you think wii u became so powerful in the end?

  • Dan

Dont forget hirai twitted last nite that Wii U 1st day update was so slow and that people always thought Sony copies Nintendo ….. I
Twitted back saying why dont he focus on recovering Kutaragi lost billions just because 7 spe on Cell looks really gud… πŸ™‚

    • TheDavyStar

Clearly there’s less heat in the west :1

  • TheUNation

In other news, hell freezes over!!!!!! All humors aside, I’m glad that Sony’s Jack Tretton have said positive things about Nintendo and the now released Wii U. Thanks, Jack.

  • Keath

The gaming industry is in a slump?? Seems good to me

  • iLikeWeYOU

you see, this is what its all about people, BE GAMERS not fanboys.

Its the truth and you know it, favouritism is not the answer, love is.

  • Nintendude

Sony has been a good sport recently. I’m just waiting to here that statement from Microsoft now.

    • Hate Skyrim

Ha! They’re too busy underhanding Bethesda Game Studios to give a rip about anything right now. Microsoft hasn’t got a clue about anything.

  • serΓΆga64

Sounds like sony giv u Hardware Business and Start develop 4 wiiU πŸ˜€

  • goginho

Well, we’ll see at the next E3 what sony has in store ..but I’m looking forward to the next E3 for other reasons, namely to get a glimpse of the up and coming, new HD Zelda beaut that I lustfully hunger for.

  • wiiuland

no i get it. They say that because they want good selling idea that they can copy it and make it “better”. Sony you are so transparent

  • Checkitnow12

Because if the Wii U isn’t a success, they won’t have anything to copy.

    • Checkitnow12

      Thanks for the support, though!

  • Smitty

Its going to be a very similar situation to ps3/360 when thry release their nextcnsoles. Im abit gutted to be honest, it looks like the specs can barely match current hardware. Before all you fanboys downvote me, im worried because i want nintendo to thrive and have good next gen 3rd party support, and I doubt very much this will be the case! Looks like i will be buying more than one console next gen after all :-(…

    • Troll patrol.

You don’t know the specs yet lol. Just because a few ports have come out a bit shit doesn’t mean anything about the systems graphics.

Wait for Rayman Legends , Bayonetta 2 etc etc before you make such judgement.

Blops 2 supposedly looks better on wiiu than elsewhere!

  • Linskarmo

Once the PS4 comes out I doubt they’ll be so polite. But it’s nice of them. I hope all consoles do well, current and future.

  • Wii Uoops!

The era of good times, where we know not biased opinions upon individual consoles, has come.

In other words, I sense “friendships” growin’ between companies. Even if they still *COUGH!* rip each other off *COUGH!*

  • Superstick

You guys haven’t put up any videos on youtube for when you got the wii u and the games? 0-O I’m surprised. I was expecting at least 1 person to put up a video so I could see the awesomeness. Ah. I can already feel that glossy black controller in my hands. 35 more days left!

  • Nintendonoob

Fuck yeah Nintendos got RESPECT! WHOOO! The Wii U will be amazing, it will sell more than Wii. I hope your Ps4 does good too Sony πŸ˜€

  • Gabe Hoffman

Sony actually saying nice things bout Nintendo. What madness is this?

  • Family Console

Bring Uncharted to the Wii U, then I will believe you Sony.

    • Cugno the Swiss

Dafuq? Only if Nintendo brings Metroid to the PS4… It makes no sense, dude!

Anyway, my heretic gaming dream is that one day everyone will have a super-ultra-hyper powerful gaming PC in the living room, but not a PC with Windows, a PC just for gaming, the ultimate gaming machine, with various joysticks (+ gamepads and accessories) to be plugged. That machine will have every game on it, every single one of them, so that no one will have to choose between Zelda and Ico.

  • Tobbe

Its just sweat talk. Ofc they like to stroke nintyfans thrue the hair.

  • Colton

Did anyone really expect anything else?

Companies, particularly in video games, will wish each other good luck always. They never go out saying “Hey I hope your game/console fails!” That’d be bad image. Saying “Good luck, man.” is a good way to keep image up.

That and it’s true – if the Wii U brings gaming sales up then everyone benefits.

Your competitor doing well is a good thing in a lot of cases.

  • RedRocBoy

Really hope Nintendo pushes more Mature and Teen titles. That’s all I’m getting @ launch. Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge,BLOPS 2 & Darksiders 2 can’t wait to get it today. XD!

  • Ledreppe

LOL, Sony thinking a PS3 & Vita could possibly be better than a Wii U with much newer tech inside it is just complete bullshit talk.

  • Arsonist Monkey

    For once! FOR ONCE!

  • Elite

    Those are some lies.

  • Amtoj

Here we go again with the “Why cant Sony and Nintendo become friends again and work on a cool new console?”. The answer: Its the 90’s all over again.

  • Mariolgy101

System fuckin updaaaate. Is anyone else’s taking long? Im about half way done and its been updating for almost 45 minutes my router is upstairs so that is most likely the problem but daaaaamn man this is lng

  • podge79

Just seen gamespot and ign video reviews of zombiu and although i like to make my own mind up i must say….Im Gutted. They tore it to shreds. Seriously making me rethink getting the deluxe set which comes with zombiu on 30th nov in uk. I was really looking forward to this game. Now im devastated.

    • J

The gamespot review was poorly done and besides that review and the IGN review, there hasn’t been a single negative review. All 8’s and up. Also, don’t rely too much on game reviews from popular, yet shady review sites.

  • Milodon

I think that the complete sentece is “we wish Nintendo well with the Wii U so we can copy it with a better prossesor and no risk to introduce a new concept to the market”

  • D2K

There really was no logical reason to bash Nintendo in the first place. Especially from marketing standpoint. The comment of “a rising tide lifts all boats” was very telling.

It seems like they realize that have solid competition is good for everyone. game companies and gamers alike. As excited as I am to hook this bad boy up in a few minutes (Wii U), reading this makes me feel better about Sony as a whole. It makes me want to root for the PS4 to be successful as well.

There are several Sony franchises that I would to continue playing into the future. Personally I think it is better when competition is of a friendly rivalry rather than dirty and cut-throat.

  • Maverick-Hunter

Watch them make a wii u equvilant …. Oh wait lol

    • Maverick-Hunter

Oh wait…. They kinda already did lol πŸ™‚

  • micks610

Just got my Deluxe Wii U Today from my local Future Shop πŸ˜€
I was the fourth one to get it !!
They only had 10 available (8 Deluxe and 2 Basic)
So Excited, now I’m updating it

  • podge79

Feel a bit better now on the zombiu situation. Read more reviews and some are excellent. Seems i gotta play it myself as the reviews are totally split. Anyway. Fuck it. Bring it on

  • LordiMcKill

I’m glad Sony has come out with a good comment for a change. Although from his quote “High Tides Raise All Boats” sounds more like: If Nintendo can have a tablet controller then so can we!

  • Chris

It’s nice to see Sony wishing Nintendo success with the Wii U. Hopefully Microsoft will do the same as well.

  • NiNtEnDoLoVeR

I’m now on the internet browser with my wiiU!

  • Christian

Of course Sony wants the Wii U to succeed. So they can copy it!

  • Sir Kaz Hirai

We started out as friends. We used to publish games for the SNES with the “SONY IMAGESOFT” brand.

Games were becoming more complex. But technology was evolving as well.We knew back in the ’90 that CDs were necessary for the game industry, many SNES games had content cut during development because of the low capacity cartridges.

We tried to explain to Nintendo the reasons why the SNES successor had to use CDs,but it was to no avail.

That was when we took different paths.

The rest you already know. But think about it…if Nintendo had agreed on using discs, the playstation would never exist. The N64 could have been the best console ever, with Ocarina of Time AND FF7,007 AND MGS and many other titles.

We could be enjoying GOW,Uncharted,Killzone,Mario,Zelda,Metroid on a single console.Imagine these franchises with the amazing third party games Nintendo had on the SNES.There would be no copies,no flame wars, fanboyism,no Playstation…Just Nintendo and all the gamers.Would be awesome.

If only Nintendo had listened to us…Well,I wish luck for Nintendo and great entertainment for Wii U owners.Believe you guys or not,I feel as if we’re all still friends and someday we’ll work together again.

    • TheDavyStar

      *Cue epic movie orchestral score*

    • bizzy gie

So you work for Sony huh?

      • Kyle Berger

no he is right. we could have the combination of the best first party games available and ongoing 3rd party support. we could have innovation but without taking away the raw power of the console. it would have been the best for everyone.

        • Laud

          You’re wrong.

If Sony had not gone their own way, we would not have the dual shock, nor would we have any of the exclusives.

You can’t just change two things and expect the outcome to be to your liking, a lot of things would have changed.

There would be no Playstation 2 for example.

A lot of the gaming teams we know today would not exist either because Nintendo would still have a lot of its very strict rules on game publishing and who’s to say Nintendo would keep their partnership with Sony or Sony with Nintendo?

This is no ones fault, if it’s anyones fault it’s Phillips.

          • Kyle Berger

What is so special about the dual shock? I would prefer to use a porcupine with a bunch of buttons that have shapes on them. Its more comfortable. This may come as a shock to you, but no one cares about little big planet. Ask a random person on the street, he or she ask u what little big planet is and will know who Mario is. I am simply thinking about what could have happened in a perfect world. Unfortunately, this world is far from perfect, especially with people like u in it.

        • bizzy gie

No. He’s speaking as if he works for Sony or he IS Sony, both of which I highly doubt.

  • Guhtere

Of course they want it to sell good, they need competition

  • sonimario2000

Is this the end of the worl… WAIT i remember i watched a video and the unreleased cd super nintendo add on was originally created by SONY!!!! and that was before the playstation came in so its not the end of the world.

  • LyingTuna

Wow. Well, good for them. I don’t care too much, as I’ve got one thing on my mind: Mario Chase. Seriously, best game in Nintendo Land.

  • Teves153

Ahh I wanted someone to video it πŸ™

  • verymetal

Of course they wish Nintendo success, so they can use all their ideas.
