As the new console generation prepares to launch, executives and developers for both Microsoft and Sony are getting a bit more lax in what they’re allowed to talk about. In a recent interview with GamesBeat, it has come to light that Sony actually tested a new controller for the PlayStation 4 that would feature a touchscreen very similar to the Wii U’s GamePad, but that many developers felt that looking down at the controller was a distraction. According to product planning manager Toshimasa Aoki, cost was also a contributing factor in why the touchscreen controller wasn’t produced. “A touchscreen was another idea that we had. We actually tested it, but [besides cost factors], our game teams felt like having to look down at the controller is not what they want to do. They want to have the consumers concentrated on the big picture that they show [on the TV].” Apparently the configuration of the DualShock 4 almost had a Wii U Pro Controller configuration too, as Aoki mentions that a DualShock 4 controller with both sticks at the top of the controller was prototyped even before the design of the Pro Controller was revealed. “When Nintendo came out with that, we were like, ‘Wow, that’s just like our prototype!’ That surprised us.” It’s interesting to see Sony admit that the company tried several different iterations of a controller, even drawing on Nintendo products for inspiration. What do you think about what developers said about the touchscreen? Do you think this is why many developers haven’t supported the Wii U? Let us know in the comments. local_offer dualshock 4 Nintendo Playstation 4 wii u stars Further Reading F-Zero X gets updated on Wii U to fix control New Zelda Breath of the Wild trailer and game Super Mario Maker Wii U vs 3DS comparison (vi Get Ocarina of Time on 3DS for only $14 New teaser site for Zelda: Breath of the Wild released How to track NES Classic Mini stock in time for Christmas Elitepwnsface I don’t know if i can believe they had a prototype made before N launched theirs. I think that the reason Developers haven’t supported is strictly sales figures plan and simple. CEObrainz This is not really news, from the moment Nintendo announced the Wii U or probably long before, Sony were playing around with this type of tech. But from the gist of this article it seems like Sony were trying to innovate but went for the “hardcore” approach in the end which I appreciate. Gregg There is that weird “Hardcore” word again. Wayne Beck lol People like him do not even know how to comprehend the life of a “Hardcore” gamer. Unless your a Pro Gamer who wins money to live, being a “Hardcore” gamer is just sad. If your going to be proud to be a gamer, be proud of being a Core Gamer. CEObrainz People like myself can’t comprehend the life of a “Harcore” game? Please…..it’s you who didn’t understand what I was trying to say. I made it easier for you by putting the word hardcore in quotes in my original post. Good day to you. Gregg True, I do see the QUOTES, that I missed the 1st time around. However, toys are toys. I don’t see how a screen in the controller makes something more or less hardcore, also, the WiiU pro controller, takes care of that. Sony could have done the same. Options are good. CEObrainz No ones disputing that options are not good, I just think that Sony was sticking to their we tailor for “hardcore” mentality when deciding not to use a gamepad like controller. The Wii U does everything I want it to do, but then again as long as it plays Smash Bros I’m game. Gregg I think Cost was a big factor. We know the WiiU Pad cost a ton. Imagine that, with PS4 hardware…. they already cut the cam to save $$. I love my WiiU. I’m down for PS4 as well. -G CEObrainz Oh that’s true, if money was of no object, Sony would pack in as many gimmicks and features as possible. But then we’d have to play thousands for such a device. That being said, I need to buy a PS4 sometime down the line anyway. Gregg Let’s not hate on eachother, but, I agree with the rest. =) CEObrainz Because I used it in the context the people at Sony were thinking when deciding not to use this kind of tech. person Sony probably just made this up to undermine Nintendo’s gamepad. Notice how they didn’t say anything good about their idea? Leo Of course. Typical Sony behaviour. Daniel Gonzalez Typical fanboy comments and behavior. Leo Excuse me? Daniel Gonzalez You’re excused. The True Gamer Nintendo isn’t the godly company you think, there’s a reason they lost all the respect they used to have. Daniel Gonzalez They never were. Only fanboys think so. No one can be a god. 😛 Ducked No, they’re admitting that Nintendo pulled something off that they didn’t think was possible Daniel Gonzalez Exactly. I don’t see why people can’t get this. Ducked Because they refuse to take off there fanboy caps off sometimes Wren Justin Umlauf It doesnt surprise me that their prototype looked like the pro controller, theres only a few logical variations on where to put the buttons and thumbsticks. As for the controller I think developers are just lazy and dont want to think outside the box. It feels like everyone is afraid of something new these days, Nintendo included. What I mean with Nintendo, is that I feel like Nintendo hasn’t released any of there older IPs, Starfox, F-Zero, ect. because they are afraid to do something new and disappoint fans of the series. I think Metroid Other M was partially to blame for that. I loved that game, but I know there are others that don’t. Im glas Sony didnt use the touch screen though, it gives the Wii U its uniqueness, although maybe more developers would be supportive of Nintendo if Sony was taking a similar approach to games. kevin I find the screen to be not a plus. If you look at the screen for something and look back up your dead. Its pointless for most games, or you end up trying to touch the area of the screen without looking. It does work for action games. It has to be a different type of game. I just end up finding it bulky and heavy after an hour of playing. The wiimote was a plus to the console but the screen is not. Wren Justin Umlauf Yeah I agree with looking down at the gamepad can be a hassel and put you at risk and sometimes it doesn’t really benefit the player. For instance in Assassin’s Creed 3 you can choose to have the HUD removed from the TV and only displayed on the gamepad, but it was much easier to see your health right on screen. On the other hand I loved that the map was huge on the gamepad and that there were other button shortcuts, like a designated horse wistle button. The gamepad made things generally quicker for the items you dont use often. Splinter Cell I felt benefited from the gamepad as well. It was nice to be able to look down and see my entire inventory and select what I wanted, and I never was killed for doing this. Plus, many games I forget that I have certain items because they aren’t right there in front of me. Daniel Carvalho I don’t think that’s the reason developers aren’t making anything for the Wii U. No matter what Nintendo did, they would show the same interest, with the horrible ports and lack of support! Can anyone explain me how that black pad on the Dual Shock works? I still don’t really get what that is. Wren Justin Umlauf It’s basically a track pad, like on a laptop, how it’s used in game though, I don’t really know Daniel Carvalho I keep wondering how the DualShock4 works with the Start and Select buttons. It just isn’t there! I still have to try it out, but as far as I can see, the previous models look more comfortable to handle. If it’s a track pad, then you have a rather small area to work. I can’t really imagine how games are going to work with it.. Maybe it’s gonna be more related to the other functions on the console than actual gameplay… Ashley King I held the DS4 at E3 and it is much more comfortable than the DS3. DS3 is my least favorite controller of last gen. I’m constantly having to reset my thumbs on the sticks because they slip off due to being convex, and the triggers were so crap if you set it down on the couch to get up, your guy would attack. That may sound like a stupid complaint, but I did this standing in front of the blacksmith in Dark Souls and it completely ruined the game. I had to farm 50k souls to get him to not be aggressive to me anymore. Daniel Carvalho Well, if they corrected those mistakes, then I guess it’s really better. I have seen people playing with the PS3, but I never actually played with it (the guy is kinda rude with with his guests and never let anyone play), but from afar, it looked the same as the DS2 for me. If you’ve played with the DS4 before, then tell me: what about the Start and Select buttons?! Suraj Alexander The track will be clickable so according to sony the trackpad will replacing the start and select button as well. Ducked The DS4 has a small screen that can have things like for a small invertory. It can also see how much you sweat when playing video games. D.M.T DS4 doesn’t have a small screen, just a touchpad Nintedward 360 controller was better, but it’s not the ultimate holy grail of gaming like some people make it out to be. For example, hold a Wiiu pro controller and then hold a Xbox 360 controller and tell me which is a more natural position for your hands to be in. The Clockwork Being And that lackluster D-Pad on the X360 controller. Gosh it was terrible. Daniel Gonzalez PS3 controller. Arthur Jarret Better yet: hold a book. The graphics on it are on-par with your imagination! Jon Curious, because isn’t this similar tech to the 3DS and the DS….. which came out long before. So how could Sony say that the gamepad like their prototype when Nintendo was using touch screens where you could play the game on since 2004 (and before during the development of the DS). sdmac200600 They were saying the wii u pro controller was just like their prototype. Not the game pad was similar to their prototype. Chad Dodsworth Looks like some people didnt read the whole story :-p I’m a huge fan of the DS4, I’m happy with it! Daniel Gonzalez When do fanboys read the whole story? I saw this story on a Sony news site and a lot of them there are actual old school Nintendo gamers and give Sony just as much credit for innovation. You’ll never see that here unfortunately. 😛 D.M.T I don’t see how Sony deserves as much credit for innovation as Nintendo. Sony is innovative don’t get me wrong but I don’t think they are on the same level as Nintendo. This is not bias or fanboy talk, this is just how I feel. Even if i was a Sony fanboy I would still admit that Sony doesn’t innovate as much as Nintendo and even if they do, the impact they make isn’t the same. I think i’m gonna write an article about this. Mercurio2054 i think the same but i need to read some history before i say something. The True Gamer I think the DS was innovative, and so was the Wii, but the 3ds 3d is just a gimmick, and he Wii u gamepad isn’t even really being used in a good way for nearly all upcoming Nintendo games D.M.T Ok so in your opinion, the Wii U Gamepad isnt being used in an innovative way but the Gamepad itself is innovative and that’s what matters the most to me at least. 3D is just a gimmick yes but not a bad one, just not for me. oontz What’s the point of having an innovative product if you can’t actually use it for anything? D.M.T Dude that’s just a matter of opinion. If you think that we can’t use the Gamepad in innovative ways then too bad for you but I disagree. I think that the Gamepad is used to its full potential in games like ZombiU, Nintendoland, Game & Wario, W101 and Wii Party U. And you need to remember that there’s only so much that can be done with a touchscreen so don’t expect magic coming from the Gamepad. Even at a minimum the Wii U Gamepad is still more impressive than any other controller in video game history and that includes the upcoming Xbox One controller and Dualshock 4. oontz It’s not a matter of opinion when MOST wiiu games delegate the gamepad to be used for only maps and items. Even Nintendo games like Pikmin 3 didn’t use the gamepad in the way it could have been used. D.M.T And who’s to blame for most Wii U games using the Gamepad for maps and items only? I say it’s 3rd party devs fault, not Nintendo’s fault. You also need to understand that not all games can use the Gamepad to it’s full potential because it wouldn’t improve your gaming experience. Pikmin 3 is perhaps one of those games that won’t benefit much from touchscreen controls. Also, don’t expect games like Mario Kart and Smash Bros to use the Gamepad in innovative ways either because it wouldn’t make sense. I hope that you will buy Watch Dogs for Wii U because if you don’t then you’re a hypocrite i’m sorry. Watch Dogs is destined to use the Gamepad the way it’s supposed to be used for that type of game and you’re complaining that the Gamepad isn’t being used so I hope you buy the Wii U version or else you don’t have the right to complain. oontz “who’s to blame for most Wii U games using the Gamepad for maps and items only?” Nintendo is to blame… IT’s THEIR SYSTEM!! They are the ones that should be showing developers and the gaming public why the wiiu matters and why the gamepad is the future of gaming. “Pikmin 3 is perhaps one of those games that won’t benefit much from touchscreen controls.” Are you joking?!?! Pikmin 3 was the perfect chance to show why the gamepad matters. But Nintendo dropped the ball again. “Also, don’t expect games like Mario Kart and Smash Bros to use the Gamepad in innovative ways either” Then what’s the point? If even Nintendo’s big name, first party titles don’t use the second screen in innovative ways… then really what was the point. Nintendo games should be showing us why the gamepad matters. If even Nintendo wont show why it matters with their own games than it’s nothing more than a gimmick. “I hope that you will buy Watch Dogs for Wii U because if you don’t then you’re a hypocrite i’m sorry” Do you even know what hypocrite means? “I hope you buy the Wii U version or else you don’t have the right to complain.” I earned the right to complain the minute I bought and paid for my wiiu system on launch day. Nintendo has done nothing but drop the ball this past year with the wiiu. Maybe you should wake. Denial is not a river in Egypt. D.M.T You’re just another guy on the huge list of people who just wants to blame everything on Nintendo because it’s the cool thing to do these days but I won’t jump on that bandwagon. Nintendo is not to blame and here’s why: Nintendo is already showing developers and the gaming public what the Wii U can do and why it’s the future of gaming. When Nintendo first announced the Wii U, they showed us what the Gamepad can do and why it’s future of gaming. You complain about Pikmin 3 not showing us why the Gamepad matters but you’re IGNORING games like Nintendoland, ZombiU, Game & Wario, Wii Party U, Wonderful 101 who use the Gamepad in innovative ways. Dude…Mario Kart is a RACING GAME, racing games won’t benefit from touchscreen controls because all you need to do is RACE against others. Smash Bros is just a FIGHTING GAME. Fighting games don’t need the Gamepad to be used in innovative ways. And if you don’t agree then explain to me how Nintendo can use the Gamepad in innovative ways for Mario Kart and Smash Bros. I know what hypocrite means and you’re a hypocrite if you don’t buy the games that shows you why the Gamepad matters. The reason why most games don’t use the Gamepad to its full potential is because of 3rd party devs laziness and not because of Nintendo. Nintendo is doing the right thing by not forcing 3rd party devs to use the Gamepad’s touchscreen because even now 3rd parties don’t want to support the Wii U. Well imagine if Nintendo forced them to use the Gamepad in innovative ways, they wouldn’t put any of their games on Wii U. 3rd party devs are talented enough to know why the Gamepad matters but they just don’t want to support Nintendo systems, they rather just focus on graphics because that’s what gamers love, graphics!!! I think that gamers these days expect WAY TOO MUCH from Nintendo. It has come to the point where people think that Nintendo drops the ball on everything. My advice to you is to lower your expectations a little bit and just enjoy your Nintendo games. But if you’re not happy with your Wii U then sell it and buy the PS4 or whatever. No need to torture yourself. Bye. Daniel Gonzalez Exactly. If games like that aren’t going to use the gamepad to it’s potential, then what was the whole point of bringing a gamepad to the Wii U console? Just for off TV play? That doesn’t sound like too much of an innovation to me. I can see why third parties don’t see too much in it. It was a poor idea and most third parties know it, and passed it up. Fans will make up excuses saying that it’s third parties fault and retailers for poor advertising. Nope, that’s NIntendo’s fault for not making it third party friendly in the first place, and advertisements are their own problem that they’ll have to address. Far as I’m concerned, fans of Nintendo make too many excuses for the Wii U’s short comings. Daniel Gonzalez I’ve never done the fanboy talk as well. I’m just a gamer in this case. I call myself universal for a reason. Yes, Nintendo innovates, I won’t take that away, however, I believe Sony is on par with them. I think the problem is that everyone has their own idea what innovation is in the video game industry. Nintendo was my first console, and will always love what they did for my childhood, but they just don’t do it for me as much years ago. While I am more with Sony these days, I do admit where they scew up with PS4, such as no ps3 compatibility. While I think the gamepad is an interesting concept with gaming, I’m not sold on it and it doesn’t appear to do a lot with games other than maps and menus. I wanna see more before I even consider buying a Wii U. Yes, perhaps I’m picky, but it is my money that I’m risking so I have a reason to be. 😛 D.M.T Dude…why do you keep repeating yourself? Every single day you talk about how you’re not a big fan of Nintendo anymore and how you don’t know if you will buy a Wii U. Yes I get, we get it, you don’t have to repeat yourself so much. I was talking about innovation, I wasn’t talking about you and your issues with Nintendo. It doesn’t surprise me that you think that Sony is on par with Nintendo, in fact I was expecting you to believe that. But I won’t try to prove you wrong because one day you’ll find out who made the bigger impact in the gaming industry. Daniel Gonzalez I’m at an age where I know who makes the bigger impact. Plus, if you’re fine with opinions, why are you trying to act like you’re so right? Lol. You’re the one who has issues dude, not me. I’m fine with you believing what you wish, which you accuse me of repeating myself, when you’re doing the same exact thing each time someone talks negative about Nintendo. Give it a rest dude. Lol. If it bothers you that much, then stop responding to my comments. Simple as that. You act like Nintendo is some god of gaming, there’s no such thing as who is more innovative because that is all subjective topics. Sometimes I wonder how old you are. “It doesn’t surprise me that you think that Sony is on par with Nintendo, in fact I was expecting you to believe that. But I won’t try to prove you wrong because one day you’ll find out who made the bigger impact in the gaming industry.” Again, and I can’t stress this further, that is only your opinion. Lol. You can’t prove someone wrong over something that you believe. Just like I can’t say that Sony is better than Nintendo and pass it off as fact. You really need to mature up and get off your high horse. You come off more fanboyish by claims like that. 😛 I can’t stress this any further for you. If you don’t like what I say, then move along. Far as I’m concerned, you’re a broken record who keeps laying it on real thick trying hard to prove everyone that Nintendo is the holy grail. Even I don’t do that with Sony and I prefer them over Nintendo. Now with this said, stop making obtuse comments just because you don’t like what you read. Furthermore, try being respectful to others. You’re a perfect example of a pot calling the kettle black. Don’t contradict yourself. Good night. 🙂 D.M.T The hypocrisy in your comment is amusing to me. You also love to lie about things and you love to put words in my mouth, hilarious! Nintendo is not the god of videos games or the holy grail, it’s just that i have no reason to criticize them right now. You said I should stop responding to your comments but truth is, it’s YOU who is constantly responding to my comments. You are always spamming me with responses. If I post 10 comments on an article, you reply to all 10 of them. Do yourself and myself a favor and stop responding to my comments 🙂 When you see a comment of mine, just ignore it and I’ll ignore yours too starting now. If you don’t ignore my comments then you’ll be talking to yourself because I will no longer respond to any of your comments. And don’t worry about my age, it doesn’t matter how old i am, just like how it doesnt matter how old you are. Bye. Super Mario you have quite an ego.I only say that because you keep trying to push your opinion on people like its a fact and come off being a know it all. I like what you have to say and agree with Nintendo being very innovative but c’mon man don’t start up the fanboy antics Jon I guess in a way…. but seeing how Nintendo was going with the second screen, this should have been seen a while ago before the Wii U was even announced dubYA He just said they aren’t talking about the GamePad, but the Pro Controller. Reading comprehension; You’re doing it wrong. Daniel Gonzalez I don’t think a lot of people on here got that from the story. Jon ok yeah I did kind of fail…… though did they base it off the prototype of the DS4 or did they base it off the extension they made for the classic controller because I find it looks quite close to that. Eric What exactly does the little touch screen on the PS4 controller do? Is it just a touch screen or will it give off a video display as well? Ashley King It’s just a touch pad, similar to what’s on the back of the PS Vita. MujuraNoKamen Nope, just a touch-pad. I really don’t see the point of it to be honest, I’ve not played a PS4 yet but the pad looks to small to do anything with, there’s no video-display so you can’t see what it is you’re touching (on menus and stuff) and there’s no start/select buttons. People called the Gamepad a gimmick but at least I can do something with the touchscreen such as look at it, see what I’m doing, off TV play, Menu organisation etc 🙂 To me it looks like Sony took inspiration from Wii U when designing the touch-pad but were too scared to go the whole way (after all the Gamepad is a gimmick – sarcasm BTW) Daniel Gonzalez You’re quick to judge lol.Scared? Perhaps. More likely didn’t wanna risk it. So far, it hasn’t paid off for Nintendo, so perhaps they were right to not include it. Nuno For the first time in my life I get the feeling that a PS controller might actually feel kinda good. I don’t know… I always hated all PS controllers. But yes I’m aware I’m mostly alone on this, so it’s probably just me being weird 🙂 Tra Allen Yes you are correct all the way lol Daniel Gonzalez I’ve prefered PS controllers as well. They fit in my hands perfectly. Makakilo_Man The share button, although a pretty cool idea, made me realize that I’m not in PS4 target market. I guess i’m just an old school gamer. Daniel Gonzalez Most likely. C4 Sharing screenshots and videos isn’t that bad 🙂 Mercurio2054 yes, we need to share videos in wii u like we share screenshots. Makakilo_Man True. It isn’t bad, nor is it that difficult to do, but it’s not a strong selling point for me. It doesn’t create a greater urge for me to buy a PS4 and this was just one of many features the PS4 had that made me feel this way. Maybe I enjoy games more for the nostalgia. Mercurio2054 well in that case, if i get some xbox1 or ps4 will be in tow years or 4. Gregg Sony, it’s a thing called “OPTIONS.” Justagamer Sony …You are too late. Nintendo did that with the DS. Wayne Beck Haha lol I forgot about that Monster. Every time I hear DS I see a DS Lite. Nintedward Getting a DS on day 1 with Super Mario 64 ds was one of the most memorable experiences ever. At that time the graphics were absolutely unbelievable. lol…. I will never forget it, one of the most memorable moments in my gaming life. Magnus Eriksson Cute, I bet you cried 🙂 Nintedward I did. I cried knowing that one day, I would have to read comments from insufferable dickheads like you. Magnus Eriksson Nownow Eddie, we where almost friends there. Where did it all go wrong? Where died the love between us? Or are you just trying to spice things up a bit by talking about male genitalias? Nintedward Why are you asking the question ”Where did it all go wrong?” as if it has something to do with me? My comments are always on topic and I even try and make them funny If I can. Your comments are just blatant trolling. Life is too short to be reading asshole comments like that. Magnus Eriksson Now again, did we not speak about this swearing of yours? Do you think you get friends by talking like that? Does it make you feel tough and cool? Do you feel like you are the one you cannot be outside the internet? You should work with your language and stop using bad words and name calling when you get angry. As matter of fact you shouldnt get angry that easy. And no, im afraid that you loses the thread everytime you get mad and personal. Cheer up, take a joke, live life its beautiful and much more than just videogames 🙂 howling_wolf1334:[ It looks, my very estimated “friend” that we R not here to make friends…. We post whatever likes to comment about the topic, regardless if is bs or not… Just messing with U, huh… Hahaha… Daniel Gonzalez I think everyone comes here for the sake of debate, but unfortunately you have the trolls and fanboys who make it difficult at times. If only we can all be civil and get along. 😛 howling_wolf1334:[ Thats the way that its supposed to be, man!!! But for obvious reasons not all peoples(so called gamers by themselves, and they dont even played a Nes, Sega Genss, or whatever platform of old) come here to post theirs thoughts properly!!! The only thing that we can do is just ignore them, XD!!! Daniel Gonzalez Yeah I know. Lol. It was wishful thinking. 😛 Magnus Eriksson But you can take a joke cant you? And if you dont like it you wont care? And if you like it you will play along? Thats the normal reaction. THEMIGHTYDOOVDE Does it make you feel tough and cool trolling fan sites? Answer: Yes Daniel Gonzalez You do get upset easy, though. I do agree with him there. Lol. THEMIGHTYDOOVDE He got upset easy? So would I if constantly had to read stupid troll comments from a repeat offender. Magnus is just an attention wh*re and it’s boooooring, and his dipsh*t replies are a waste of good comment space. I know everyone is entitled to an opinion, but trolling is just rot that the majority of users on here just don’t want to see. Magnus Eriksson You should calm down, have some fun and dont get upset so easy. There is really no reason for that. Why dont you make a cup of tea, sit down in the chair, pick up your best game an put it in the XBox360 and have a joyful time? Much better 🙂 Majora’s Mask BURN HIM ALONG WITH THE 360 TROLL YOU WILL DIE FOR BUYING A MICROSOFT CONSOLE BURN IN HELL COPYCATS THEMIGHTYDOOVDE Maybe we should both tone it down and play some 360. My name on here is my gamertag by the way. GTAO, Halo Wars, X COM, Fifa and Blops 2 are my most played 🙂 Daniel Gonzalez Fair enough. Though, I also think that the fanboys are also a problem too. Since a lot of them cause the same amount of problems as the trolls do. I’m not defending what Magnus does, but this is a two way street. Lol. Magnus Eriksson No, but you dont get bananas either. And you can separate a joke from serious statements too. Thats why its more interesting to have serious debates with you, and more interesting to play jokes with those who are unable to accept others opinions. Because what else can you do but laughing at craziness? I have no problem to disagree with you, and I feel that you have the same approach. From such a standpoint we can actually get somewhere. Sometimes you teach me something I didnt knew, and the other way around. That is more difficult to do with someone who calls you an asshole because you have an opinion he dislikes. Then there is two options, have fun or ignore. Well, I admit I like to have fun, so ignoring is not an option. I go for the laughs. Does that make me a troll? Not really, because I too leave an option here. Play along with the joke, ignore and accept others opinions or behave like some wrongly medicated child with anger management problems. Daniel Gonzalez Neither do I. A lot of people here bring it on themselves too. Trolls exist on this site due to the high population of fanboys on it. Naturally, trolls will stick around, because they know fanboys will respond with hatred as per usual. I never bother to get upset here, because afterall, it’s just video games like you said. When I see comments like, “shut up you don’t know how good the Wii U is” or”someday you’ll see how great Nintendo is” and other such stuff never phases me because it’s beyond amusing. I can get along with just about any Nintendo fan who is actually respectful, modest, polite and mature. If they’re going to act like crazy fans and hate you for criticizing Nintendo, then I either ignore them or just give them an answer that is completely off topic. Cause if they’re not going to stick to the topic instead of name calling, then why should I? I can at least say that I’ve never called people names, make fun of their appearances, say they suck at grammar or just going all AWOL for just an opinion. As for you being a troll. You can appear as one, but if people know you well enough, they can tell a joke from a troll comment. Whenever someone makes a troll comment, I either play along with it or leave them be. Magnus Eriksson And that is the right reaction 🙂 And to be fair. Im joking when Im saying “It looks great, almost at the level of PS3”. But it got a core of truth to it. Nintendo have been unable to bring good games to the field, both in matter of gameplay and graphics. They have shown some interesting stuff that can be done with the pad, but they have been unable to apply that to other stuff than a few minigames, The best looking games on PS3 and XB360 looks better than the best looking games on Wii U one year in its cycle, and there is really nothing that justifies the hardware jump so far. Most of the games could very well have been released on the Wii. I think people get upset because they know that this is the truth, but decides to act like its not. Wii U should have been released with stuff that pushed the console a bit more than it did. I think it was a joke to release it with NSMBU, and most people do as they didnt buy it. It should have been released with a couple of the stronger titles. And Nintendo had pretty good time to prepare for that. Edit: And to write things like this, in a un-trolling sense, will still be treated as trolling on this page. Daniel Gonzalez Agreed. That’s about how I feel about the Wii U. If it’s so great as everyone says, then why is no one buying it? I don’t think a few screw ups on selected retailers(talking about advertisements) speak for the whole world. Only reason there can be is that no one is interested in it. Most people are preparing for the Xbox One and PS4 at this point. It’s not to say that Wii U doesn’t stand a chance at getting back up top, but with the lack of third party support and 1st party games taking too long due to delays and Nintendo having difficulties with HD development, it’s hard to see them really competing. Yeah, most on here consider it trolling if it’s not something positive about Nintendo. I pay no mind to it. There’s always mature Nintendo fans on here to have discussions with at least. Magnus Eriksson Maybe it is a good console, maybe its not. I dont think Nintendo have been able to prove anything so far. Well, yes, they have proved that they really dont care about their fans. And the sad part is that the fans are cheering them for this. Even state their bad moves as genious strikes. I think its ridiculous. I do not see Sony fans or MS fans act the same on obvious failures like this. We shouldnt pretend that everything is ok, or even good. The situation is horrible. Maybe it will change in christmas, but unlikely. Heck, Nintendo themselves clearly doesnt believe in this product. If it suddenly did good we would probably see some things happen, but until then there seems to be little. All games we know about this day was actually announced in the early phase-E3-13. Nothing new since then. THEMIGHTYDOOVDE Fanboys aren’t crazy. They just concentrate less on the bad and more on the good. A fanboy is someone who looks at their favourite console and just want the best from it and knowing at some point they will. That’s not crazy mate, many people have a passion for things, warts and all. What’s different is that you MOCK people for loving something! And the last time I checked, that’s trolling. Look! Im sure your a decent fella but leave your ‘harsh’ criticisms for multiplat sites like GS or IGN where trolling is rampant, and leave us ‘fanboys’ to our dedicated Nintendo site so we can enjoy and talk about our hobby. Nintedward I’m not upset lol. More like sick of having to read dog shit comments form a repeat offender on an otherwise great comment section full of great comments. Magnus Eriksson You turn bananas over a comment like: “Looks great, almost on level with PS3”. And by the look of the comments I wonder who would be the offender and who would be the victim if this was a court. You see my friend, I have never called you a bad thing, never said an ugly word to you or acted bad towards you in any way. You on the other hand… But its ok, I have a tough skin and does not feel offended that easy, just because I dont care over trivias and never let people like you hurt my feelings. We could say that you dont have that kind of power on me. You know why? Because I think its kind of funny. Daniel here never gets upset, the same goes for Ciel, Clockwork and many more. You know why? They can take a joke, and they doesnt get so high on themselves and overly serious about things that shouldnt matter. They have other things in life that are more important, and you should really try to find that you too. Its a friendly advice. Because unlike you, I see you as a friend here. It doesnt matter that you doesnt feel the same. We are different persons. And about the trolling. I like to troll people, but Im still not a troll. My mission is different. Im here to spread love, not hate. So if you chill down, relax and join in you can be part of that love too. What do you chose? Love or hate? Upvote is for love, downvote is for hate 🙂 Nintedward Sometimes you are alright, Magnuss. It’s just sometimes you’re an annoying troll and you know you are. Don’t try and make yourself look like some innocent little guy lol. You deliberately type provocative comments for the sole purpose of getting a rise out of people. It’s pretty sad if you ask me. For your own sake dude, get N or get out. I apologize if I come across negative or whatever, but that’s only because some of your comments are unnecessary and out of place. How am I supposed to tell if you’re just an asshole troll or a nice guy? Daniel Gonzalez I think the same about you, though. Sometimes you can be cool, and other times you reek of fanboyism with some of your comments. No offense, but let’s be real here. While Magnus does do trollish things, you also add to the problem by even commenting, so it doesn’t make a lot of the fanboys any better here. No dude, no one has to get N or get out. I think you more so mean either be respectful or get out. I can agree with that more. Might wanna rephrase that part. Nintedward That’s fine buddy and I will take that on board. From now on I will just ignore the sometimes stupid comments that Magnus and other people leave. I haven’t got time for it . Your accusing me of being a fanboy, well guess what? I am a Nintendo fan….. that’s why I’m here talking about Nintendo and I always try to do so in a constructive and none biased way. I’d rather be a fanboy on a site dedicated to Nintendo fans (makes sense….) than a troll provoking stupid, off topic conversation. Oh and for the record, I have nothing against you! You’re cool. Daniel Gonzalez Fanboys are the reason they’re here. Lol. Simply because they are easy to piss off since they’ll defend Nintendo to no end which makes them a perfect target. Being just a Nintendo fan is better as those types aren’t targeted often. Both of their behaviors are similar. As long as fanboys exist on this site, trolls will continue to stick around and give them a hard time, which causes the comment section and those who are looking for a good discussion, suffer. Like I said, it’s a two way street. Other than what I said earlier, I have nothing against you personally and I think you’re cool as well. Magnus Eriksson You should ask yourself this question. Try it in the mirror. You should start by saying: Is it right to call someone idiot, asshole, dickhead, and tell him to go fuck himself just because he tell jokes that I dislike? Does that make me, or him, an asshole? And then you could continue by saying: Is it ok that I get this angry over jokes about my favourite gaming device? Should I get this angry just because someone makes a joke about a TOY? Am I justified to behave the way Im doing? Does this behaviour make me a grown up? Or is my reaction childish? And is my attachment to this toy really that important that I can behave this way to a guy who really didnt do me any harm in any way? You should ask yourself this Edward. Or if you rather want, continue to behave the same way. Calling names and act aggressively whenever someone makes a quite innocent joke about your toys. And if you chose to do that, its just fine with me. You cannot hurt my feelings, you cannot make me angry or sad. But you can give me laughs either by getting angry or play along with the jokes. Because I told you a MILLION times – It is just jokes. And I wont stop making jokes just because some childish guy decides to go bananas. Case closed! Now I will get back to play my emulated Nintendo collection on the far superiour console Ouya 🙂 Nintedward It is perfectly fine to call someone an asshole or a dickhead if they make comments as deliberately stupid as yours. Get over yourself and stop crying because you got swore at, you big baby. Magnus Eriksson Nonono, you misunderstand on purpous. I dont care what you call me. But that shouldnt change that you should care. 😀 The childish one is you, for the reasons already given 🙂 Daniel Gonzalez I also see a lot of fanboy comments. Lol. While I can get along with most people here, some people are just far too ignorant. It’s a good reason why trolls exist here. THEMIGHTYDOOVDE Fanboy comments on a fan site… unf*ckingbelievable! Daniel Gonzalez I know! It’s so hard to believe, isn’t it?!?! beerkin Im pretty sure this daniel dude and magnus are dating. Daniel Gonzalez Well there goes our end of the year surprise. Cole Brinley You know, it’s very possible that he was just in a bad mood prior to reading Magnus’s comment. It could have easily been a mix of real world anger and the comment’s ass-hole vibe it was giving off that led him to resort to such profanity. Justagamer Forget that dude. He’s still upset cause someone dropped a house on his sister Magnus Eriksson Yeah, I loved that house 🙂 Justagamer Thank you hahahero whelp this article just went mynintendonews Shota i know what you mean. portable mario 64 metroid. 2004 was the best palomino blue I worked at Best Buy then and I managed to store 2 Ds’s aside right before launch. That release was amazing. My brother and I spent hours with Pictochat. It really laid the groundwork for Miiverse. Justagamer I agree and it beat the psp back in the day and look now at the 3ds vs vita still getting beat like2nap I just bought Super Mario DS a few weeks ago. Never played it before. Haven’t had time to play it more than 15 minutes, but I definitely like it so far. Keyser I still have my giant silver monster and shall not retire it until I get my 3ds xl next month 🙂 Wildman I retired mine back in 2008 or so. Then I went DSi. Now I have a 3DS XL. Love it. AlienFanatic I still hate the second screen and think it detracts. In every game, I’d much rather interact with the pad and NOT the stylus and I actually resent it when they force me to do so. Only a very, very small minority of games benefit from the stylus and/or the second screen. I’m firmly in the “it’s a gimmick” camp, even though the system has sold well. I’m convinced the games have sold the system much more than that second screen. Daniel Gonzalez So has Nintendo with PDA technology, which has existed in the 90’s. Long before the DS. Point is….they are both guilty. Let’s not defend Ninty so blindly. ConCity Soldier He meant on a gaming system fool. Smh… Magnus Eriksson And this guy meant the tech. What is your problem? Daniel Gonzalez People don’t know how to read is probably it. Mercurio2054 they have to shange the title to the article…. Mercurio2054 thanks for the down vote, in any case… well… for get it Daniel Gonzalez I never downvoted you. Just saw your comment now. 😛 Mercurio2054 to the one who do that. the title brings confusion, it’s my opinion, too bad for the ones that never read the entire article Daniel Gonzalez Magnus already corrected you, so I won’t bother there. As for the DS the first to use touch screen, not quite,as Sega’s successor to the Game Gear was the earliest attempt at touch screen which most probably don’t even know about. I suggest looking it up. Nintendo was the second to bring it to the market, which is why they get so much credit for it. http://www.ign.com/articles/2009/04/21/ign-presents-the-history-of-sega?page=7 (source that talks about Sega being the first to attempt touchscreen long before the DS) I know, IGN is ignorant! However, even they get their sources from reliable people in the industry. I know that’s hard to fathom. I”m an old school Nintendo fan, but even I can give credit where it’s really due. 🙂 I know, lies and slander. I expect that from crazy fans. 😛 Edit: Game.com was the first to use a touchscreen and stylus before the DS as well and also came to the market before the DS. So that makes two attempts before Nintendo’s DS. Interesting, isn’t it? Mercurio2054 well i give them the credit, but they never take it out. if i have an idea and never take it out, is like i nerver have it Magnus Eriksson I actually had a Game Gear for a very very short period (30 days open buy, delivered it back to the store in just a couple of days). Just remebered that one 🙂 btw, I think it was the Sega Nomad that had been experimented with touch screen. Daniel Gonzalez Game.com I barely remember. I had a friend who had one years ago. Whether people like it or not, it was the first touchscreen game portable/console. Daniel Gonzalez Nah, it was a different handheld that didn’t make it past the prototype stage from what I gathered. They scrapped it and went with the Nomad. hahahero AVGN provides an entertaining segment on the tiger gamecom. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=_u5dtBtG9yU#t=773 Daniel Gonzalez Yeah. I remember that one. It was the first touch screen gaming system, but it was pure crap. I also love the old Tiger Electronic games that I used to buy as a kid. Had Mega Man 2, Castlevania 2, Ducktales and some Batman game that I can’t remember. They were lame but they do have a lot of nostalgia behind them. 🙂 hahahero Yeah, same here. I had a couple, the only one I can really remember playing was Street Fighter II tho. Good times! Great alternative for those who couldn’t afford a gameboy. Guest Well nintendo is better Daniel Gonzalez That’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it. Justagamer When it comes to Nintendo i will defend them every time. Daniel Gonzalez Facts will never change, however. Though, at least you admit to being a fanboy. 🙂 Oskar Something that could be a really cool wii u feature (that easily would beat the “share” button) would be if you could stream both gameplay and use the gamepad camera as a facecam to websites like twitch. This isn’t impossible since nintendo just made Twitch available to watch through the gamepad and therefore probably have them in concideration of some sort. StefanosGR Is this their new controller? This is the same annoying thing that they stuck on my vaio and call it touchpad. Um…. this is the key of their success… right? Justagamer Nah it’s better and don’t hate bro it’s the best handheld around…But you keep you phone games…Facepalm! figs28 pics or didn’t happen only god can judge me This just goes to show you that nintendos innovation is always mimic in some sort of way or fashion by its competitors xbox and playstation whose biggest gripe is that they can’t have nintendos exclusives on their consoles. All this hate on wii u when behind closed doors the wii u will be the most innovative console this generation. Daniel Gonzalez Innovative in this case is subjective to all of us. Even so, I think successful is more important in Nintendo’s situation as Wii U isn’t doing so well in the market. I also like your user name, cause that references off the meaning of my name. 😛 only god can judge me That was a great point you made and thankyou. It just bothers me that I personally enjoy my wii u and to see them struggling is kind of mindboggling I’m worry that soon as ps4 and xbox one come out all third partys will abandon wii u I am a nintendo gamer first but I also enjoy good third party games also which is why I hope nintendo will have some third party support this generation. Brandon Gardner Sony needs to be more creative and stop jocking off of Nintendo SleepySkullhead Innovation. Ducked The dualshock 4 actually brings a unique gameplay, not near as good as the gamepad, but Sony said there main focus is games. Ace J bingo Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog yeah its look’s too much that sony is copying nintendo Jeovany Yes sony copied Nintendo before they even new anything about the wii u and then decide not to go that route because copying mean thinking about some idea and then doing something completely different. Hipster Victor Remember Guys, Playstation was born from the fierce bloody argument of Nintendo and Sony, so im not really suprise that Sony taken alot of ideas from Nintendo Bob Wilkerson I can see how looking down on the controller could be a distraction but it is less of a distraction than to have to pause the game to check your map, pick your weapon, or interact with the game. Personally I love the level of interaction with the game the gamepad offers me. Games like NintendoLand, Pikmin 3, Wind Waker, Batman Arkham City, Rayman Legends, and many others are more enjoyable for me to play for that reason. Alexander Kleinwechter I laughed so much at the quote “When Nintendo came out with that, we were like, ‘Wow, that’s just like our prototype!’ That surprised us.” Magnus Eriksson Yeah, that was funny Leo “A touchscreen was another idea that we had”. Yeah right $ony, i believe that YOU had an idea… NOT!!! lol Daniel Gonzalez Nintendo’s idea of touchscreen existed for years before they discovered it. So Nintendo didn’t come up with it. Leo Did i say that they invented it? Daniel Gonzalez Most of you act like they did. Nice of you to admit they didn’t. Ducked Nintendo’s main focus is Innovation. PlayStation’s main focus is Good Games. Xbox’s main focus is to Fool Consumers. Leo PlayStation’s main focus is Good Games? Since day one Playstation’s main focus is flood the market with cheap games and see what it sticks from the bunch. They have no quality control whatsoever and the only reason that Sony is so popular among the 3rd parties is because they let those developers do whatever they want to do, crap or not they do not care. Ducked I’m talking about PlayStation 4. They made it clear that PS4 is for the games. Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts III, KillZone: Shadowfall, Knack, and a lot more coming in the future. Daniel Gonzalez That’s the idea of any console. Have great games. Sony has always brought quality titles and welcomes third parties with open arms. They get so much third parties because their tech is more open for third parties to take advantage of. It’s no one’s fault if Nintendo doesn’t do the same with theirs. Daniel Gonzalez Did Nintendo tell you that? I’m sorry dude, but I think you exaggerate your claims. Lol. Sony is popular with third parties for giving them more freedom. Nintendo takes that away by making their consoles more different in tech just to have control. Nintendo has more shovelware than it’s rivals which was a good example with the Wii. Don’t contradict yourself with the talk of crappy games. Of course, I expect your type to believe otherwise. You’ll realize it one day. 😛 D.M.T Nintendo doesn’t have shovelware. Those crappy games that you’re talking about on the Wii came from 3rd party developers, not from Nintendo. We could argue that Wii Music was shovelware but that was Miyamoto trying something new and it didnt work so dont expect a sequel on Wii U. Daniel Gonzalez Neither does Sony, but I wasn’t talking about 1st parties, so I’ll make that more clear to you. I’m talking about third parties. Yes, I can say that Wii Music was shovelware as I believe it to be. Even Wii Play I can question and call it as such. It’s called an opinion, everyone has their idea on what shovelware is. The True Gamer Because Wii music and Wii play was so good,… oontz Sony has some of the best, highest rated exclusives in the industry. What are you smoking? Mohammad Badir so does Nintendo, and their games are actually as good as the reviews make them out to be or better. TLOU nowhere near deserved all the praise it got. it felt like a movie rather than a video game. OoT however, felt like it deserved that “highest rated game of all time” title it had. oontz Are you serious? The Last of US was an amazing story driven experience. An experience that is easily one of the best in the industry to date. If anything Naughty Dog deserves more praise for what they accomplished. You’re really comparing OoT with TLOU… Do you even game? Mohammad Badir do YOU even game? i’ve played TLOU, it doesn’t deserve anywhere near the praise it gets. the AI is horrible, the controls are decent at best, the only good thing is the story, which makes the game seem like a movie. oontz Yeah I do… I play and finish around 2 games a month and the last of us was great. AI was top notch for a 3rd person shooter. Gameplay was awesome from start to finish and the story was icing on an already amazing cake. Easily in the running for game of the year. DarkLegacy “Xbox’s main focus is to Fool Consumers.” True story. But I don’t know what Xbox has got to do with this. lol Ducked I don’t know, I just brought them out the blue since they are green. lol DarkLegacy I don’t know what blue has got to do with Xbox but I will say one thing. LOL Marius Valasinas Sony, Sony, Sony … Better stop copying Nintendo and create something unique of your own. This s**t has to stop one of these days. First it was “PS move”, then Vita as a second screen just like Wii U… I like Sony and their technology but knowing that they are copycats makes me dislike them a lot The True Gamer Sony usually makes what Nintendo has and improves it. People could say Nintendo copied other companies for discs, online, and the idea that consumers are fine with an infinite number of games are nearly identical. Take donkey kong tropical freeze, new super Mario bros. 2, and super Mario 3d world for example oontz Wake up… all corporations copy each other. Regardless of what they’re selling the masses. Even nintendo… if they didn’t we’d still be playing nintendo games on cartridges. Magnus Eriksson I replayed Metroid in Nintendo Land with my GF yesterday. Its actually pretty great and can do things that no of the other consoles can do (without at very high price). I think its sad that Nintendo didnt follow this up, either as extra levels DLC for Nintendo Land, or even better a new game in the similar spirit. Daniel Carvalho The problem with Nintendo Land is that there are a lot of gamers there who don’t want to even try it out, either because of the graphics or because they feel it’s just silly. I’m sure they’d buy the game if they could try it out at least once! Magnus Eriksson But there should be DLC’s for this game. You agree? I dont get why they didnt work something out in the dry period? edit: btw, I think the graphics works. It looks fun, and it is fun. Daniel Gonzalez A lot of them might have already and made up their minds. 😛 oontz Or like me… I have no time for my group of local friends to get together and play the muliplayer. Nintendoland should have been an online multiplayer game and it would have been huge! wii sports huge! DragonSilths They had a patent for a Touch Screen controller. We saw it 6 months after the Wii U controller was shown at E3 2011. NintenFan2013 proof that EVERYONE copys nintendo gosh sony get your own ideas Jeovany I wouldn’t say sony copied or even drew on Nintendo for inspiration. It sound more like while sony was designing there new console they thought about what nintendo did to be a good idea but decide not to go that route do to complications. Daniel Gonzalez If so, the way things are going now, they might have made the right decision. demann78 At least they admit it oontz admit what? TehPostman I’m not really surprised at this, companies actually tend to experiment with similar technologies before most consoles launch but not everyone goes through with it, the thing with Nintendo is they see something they like and want to try and will go and do it regardless of what some devs say, Sony it seems was swayed away from taking chances with any sort of new controller and stuck with an upgraded design of the dualshock as to take less chances because it has worked in the past and if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, and although they added a small upgrade to it, its still roughly the same thing, both companies are good but i do like that Nintendo went through with it, i enjoy the pad, as for the devs complaining, its more work for them they don’t want to deal with because they have to think up a way of how to use it and program it in and most FPS devs don’t want to deal with it because it takes away from the staring at the screen to look down during gun firing action, although zombie U did an exellent job with the pad so the screen was all game and the pad was your map and HP which i thought would have been an ideal thing for the future of fps’s, i geuss not everyone thinks that way, but i like when games innovate with the pad, it can be used for menus, maps, added features and you can even program extra buttons onto the pad so that if there isn’t enough on the controller you have the pad, i enjoy Nintendo for going though with innovation then the other companies feel better about doing thing because Nintendo has success with it, but when they jump on later they are just being unoriginal because they were not willing to take the risk….yay Nintendo. leo pshh copying nintendo MewThree28 It’s funny how people get mad if we say Sony copied Nintendo. All the sony fanboys try to bring about something that beat Nintendo to it. Nintendo knows how to make things popular and fun. I remember back when the Wii was released, Sony and MS bashed on the Wii but look, now BOTH of their next-gen consoles have a lot to do with them. Nintendo > Sony > Microsoft forever!!!!! The True Gamer You’re entitled to you’re own opinion, but I think that Nintendo hasn’t been a very productive company recently. The Wii u is essentially a mini tv with a Wii mote. If Nintendo was actually a risky company, they’d release another normal system with no gimmick and focus on games, no trying to appeal to children looking to try out something new. Daniel Gonzalez Also, if Sony and Microsoft weren’t risky companies, then I don’t think they’d spend millions upon millions of dollars developing a powerhouse of a console. Even if people don’t like the Kinect like myself, it is quite an innovative piece of technology. Nintendo on the other hand to most third parties and the media out gimmick themselves and aren’t interested in them being different. If they did, they’d be on board with them right now. Bananapwnz ahh sony, so innovative asdfg Would the gaming community bash this “stupid tablet controller” so much if Sony was the one to come up with it? Daniel Gonzalez I don’t know. Personally, if Sony had done so, my opinion of it wouldn’t change. Even I’d call them out on a poor idea. asdfg May I ask why you don’t like it? My only complaint is that it’s not very comfortable to hold… But I love it overall, especially the offscreen thing. Daniel Gonzalez Just like you said, it is uncomfortable to hold. To me it takes away from the experience when you have to look down which breaks you away from the TV. I mean the good part about it to me is the off TV play, which is convenient when someone wants to use the TV. I really think Nintendo out gimmicks themselves and it costs them third parties as well which is the price they pay. Wesily the steambox controller already has a touchscreen Saifarino I dont’t know, innovation is kinda Nintendo’s big thing. I feel like there’s a slight hining toward accusing nintendo of rippin their’s off. Logan Waltz If only it were possible to develop a game on wii u that didn’t require the touch screen. Daniel Gonzalez I’m sure that can be done, but I think Nintendo is going to shove it in our faces with most games. Logan Waltz nobody cares if most nintendo games shove it down our throats. the point is that third party devs never have to use it Daniel Gonzalez Perhaps. Though I think most third parties prefer a stronger console in the PS4 and Xbox One. There will be a decent amount of third party games if the Wii U gets out of it’s struggles, but I don’t expect many interested. oontz “our game teams felt like having to look down at the controller is not what they want to do.” This is one of the main reasons the wiiu concept fails to work with the general public. It works amazingly well with the 3ds because both screens are in your peripheral vision at all times. With the wiiu you have to break away from the tv to controller and back again. Takes you out of the experience. Daniel Gonzalez That was what I felt about it too when I tried it a handful of times at GameStop. I don’t think I wanna have to look down during gameplay with the possibility of missing something during the game. 3DS works great, but I don’t know what Nintendo was thinking with the gamepad. When I do get a Wii U(in another year most likely), I’ll probably be using the pro controller more than the gamepad. Only advantage the Wii U Gamepad has to me, is off TV Play. Saikyo more proof that hindsight is 20/20, thanks sony Rick van der Linde Like it matters who actually invented it, it’s about implementation. Andy Samson “A touchscreen was another idea that we had. We actually tested it, but [besides cost factors], our game teams felt like having to look down at the controller is not what they want to do.” So they wouldn’t be doing this kind of thing with the Vita, otherwise, eat crow. oontz what do you mean? Daniel Gonzalez I’m gonna guess he’s talking about remote play. oontz But with remote play you’re just looking at the vita… not the tv AND the vita. Which backs up there statement.. “our game teams felt like having to look down at the controller is not what they want to do.” BEEPBOOP This is just funny to me. It’s basically Sony saying “Oh no we’re getting slated for not being innovative. Better claim we came up with the same idea as well to cover ourselves in the long run! Let’s throw in a few comments about how why we didn’t go for it to try and persuade people it’s a bad idea.” True or not, this should be taken as a compliment to nintendo, they’ve managed to pull off something that the “amazing” Sony couldn’t. Dodge Pribyl And if Sony did that, people would be going on about how it’s innovative. springer85 LMFAO!!Sony hit the nail on the head big time!! They tried the Wii U Gamepad type controller prototype and STRAIGHT AWAY thought it would cost to much and then the development team said what a waste of time it would be staring down at your controller instead of on your big screen TV!! That is EXACTLY why 3rd party are not making games for the Wii U, if Nintendo had actually done their research properly they would have realized what waste of time it was going ahead with the Gamepad and that cost would be a massive factor!! First year sales prove that no body gives a shit about a second screen on a home console and how BADLY Nintendo got it wrong with the Wii U. MujuraNoKamen If they didn’t want a Gamepad like controller then why stick that shitty touch-panel on the DS4, DS4 is great but why the pad? It doesn’t show video, you can’t see what you’re doing, it’s too small to draw on, can’t be used to drag/drop items in game inventory, no off TV play, it’s removed the start/select buttons! WHY!? I reckon they weren’t willing to risk a full Gamepad controller but ended up using a tiny (useless) part of it just to say they “innovated” like PS Move, Vita etc. This may sound like fanboyism but its true, it’s an idea thats already been done and without being integrated properly. What is this thing used for!? blindtiger glad you stayed boring playstation… i would hate to have to choose between multiple innovative consoles. greengecko007 Wow, the fanboyism in this comment section is incredible. Anyways, Sony looked to a rival company’s (Nintendo’s) product when designing their own product? That’s just like, literally every successful company in the world. Sony has borrowed from Nintendo several times in the past, and Nintendo has borrowed from other companies several times in the past. How is this news? Cory Malcolm Damn you ladies are getting your panties in a bunch…. Relax.. wimpykid456 If you want to see arguments ensue, scroll downward. brian Sony (and others) have been taking cues from Nintendo for ages. L and R shoulder buttons? SNES was first. Analog thumbstick? N64. Motion controls? Wii. Second screen experience? Wii U. idontlikesigninginwithdisqus “our game teams felt like having to look down at the controller is not what they want to do” Looks like Sony actually did some research, unlike Nintendo. mch Must say: I never liked the Sony controllers ever. And i don’t think it will change.
