Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed was a surprise for many Wii U gamers who picked it up for the launch of the new console. It continues to be one of the most recommended titles here on Wii U Daily when someone says, “Hey what games should I get for my new Wii U?” The game’s track design and action-packed racing surprised many and it’s been an affordable release both for retail and on the eShop.

SEGA Sammy has stated that the game sold 930,000 copies since December 31st, which is less than two months since the game has been released. Considering the failure of Disney’s Epic Mickey 2, these numbers are quite astounding. The Wii U version specifically contributed 260,000 sales to that number, which is good when you consider just how long the Wii U has been available versus other platforms.

If you’ve been on the fence about this one then let this be your wake up call, SEGA finally has a great Sonic racing game on their hands. Have you picked it up? Let us know how you like it in the comments.

I didn’t really like this game.

Mario Kart is where it’s at.

    • Nintedward

      I didn’t like it either. I mean I liked it , but I didn’t ”like” it…

It’s a 7/10 game. It’s OK , but everything feels cheap and tacky. The Graphics are terrible by todays standards and it looks the same on 3DS and Vita. You just know Mario Kart will have that rock solid feel about it. I hated the weapons on SASRT they feel 10 times less satisfying than the weapons on any mario kart game.

      A swarm =/= Banana

      • PKUltima

Hey, at least it isn’t Sonic R.

    • Silent

True, Mario kart is MUCH more exciting, even if you lose.

      • Makis Karavokiris

I wouldn’t say MUCH better or exciting, at least not compared to mario kart wii. I like that sonic is pretty fast at some stages and the fact that the penalty for falling out of the road doesn’t cost you a lot of time. It helps the flow of the game a lot.

I think mario kart could copy some of the good features of sonic to create a master piece.

        • Silent

True. The penalty for falling is way too much for MK.

    • Jay

yeah but peeps are buying this until MK comes…

  • savisn

I think it’s a blast.  It’s amazing multi-player – the whole family enjoyed it.  My only complaints were that if you use motion controls they are way too sensitive so I had to switch to nunchuck (don’t have a pro controller) which works better but I think “steering” is more intuitive for my kids and I like to be able to choose.   Other than that I occassionaly get a framrate drop that is frustrating as it makes me wreck, but it’s rare enough that it doesn’t break the overall game.

  • Anthony K Aurelia

This will sell until Mario Kart

    • Jonas

but i think its good, because it gives us something till mariokart comes out

  • Matt Lambourne

I downloaded the demo and wasn’t really impressed.  I don’t like the transition between cart/boat/plane.  It spoils the flow.

    • Scott Duperree

Same here, I didn’t have a lot of fun with the demo, mostly because I didn’t like the plane racing.  This is a lot like Diddy Kong Racing in sense of the three racing choices, but in that games the flow as you put it wasn’t messed with.

    • Makis Karavokiris

Forget the demo. Because of it, I almost didn’t buy the game. After my wife pushed me to get it, all I can say is that I would had made a big mistake if I wouldn’t play the full game. This is simply great fun and if you like kart racers in general, get it. Trust me

  • Johny

nah… i mean.. its not that its bad.. its the fact that Mario kart will come out MUCH better… in all aspects.(characters, tracks, powerups, the feel, the gameplay mechanics).. so no much point getting it unless you’re a HUGE sonic fan…. AND hate all things mario.
so thats that… UNLESS.. they actually DO add Hatsune Miku as a playable character… ; then im practicly forced to get the game

  • Sydney Ultrasyd

Do anyone remember of Sonic Drift racing on GameGear ? It was about time Sega released a good racing game : )

  • Fred

I grabbed it because it was only $40 and I’m glad I did. It would have been worth $60 my wife and I love playing it

  • good, needs storyline and the offline multiplayer is the WORST!!

  • Jay

The funny thing is, this isn’t even the highest selling game on the console. The “other” game has already passed 2Million.

….hmmm… can anyone GUESS what game it is? lol

    • Silent

      either NSMBU or NL

  • andrewjcole

I got the demo and it’s not better than Mario Kart or worse. Let’s see if the next Mario Kart can beat Sonic.

  • Linskarmo

This game looks very good. I’ve had trouble downloading the demo, but I might get that and/or pick up this game soon.

  • Yngve Elstad

this is the one game that I’ve spent most time playing on the wii u, awesome game

  • Kev Kigga Digreat

I Have This Game For The Wii U And Its Def Top 5 In My Opinion Great Racing Game Great Graphics Just All Around Great Fun And Finally Good To Actually See Another Good Racing Game On An Nintendo Console Besides Mario Kart So People This Is A Must Get If You HAVE A Wii U

  • I love this game i had a blast playing it and still playing it once in awhile 😀 Fun fun… that’s just me i do not just like Mario Kart only racing game, i like lots of different racing games as long as i am having fun, the reason why i bought an Wii U.  The Wii, Gamecube, N64 did not have very many good racing games, as i owned a PS3 for that reason.

  • Cole Holbrook

I really liked this game. SO glad I got it and it is good compitition for Mario Kart. I know MK will step it up and be better but still.

  • Srpg2ishere

If you are a fan of sonic I recommend getting this. It has great graphics, the music is awesome, and the racing is smooth and fun. It does have it’s flaws though… The character’s ALL-STAR moves are basically copies of each other with different music and the gameplay sometimes gets a bit repetitive. BTW this game is not for newbies. The challenges in this are HARD. Well not THAT hard if you now what you are doing but It has it’s ways! It is one of the best games on wii u now at this time, too! If you’re waiting on that mario kart to come you should get this to tide you over. Or at least wait till march for nfs most wanted. Either way sonic rules! 😛

  • MetroidZero

You can do local 5-player AND local 5-Player online against other players.. An automatic win, if you ask me.
