With the release of Sega’s financial report earlier today, we’ve gained a better insight about how well the company did in regards to games it released. Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed was a big hit for the company, selling 1.36 million units across the United States and Europe. Of those, 310,000 copies were on the Wii U and 190,000 were on the 3DS.

Hopefully Sega is pleased with those numbers, as Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is one of the better racing games released in the past few months. If you haven’t picked it up yet, it’s definitely worth a try.

  • Th3PANO

an attach rate of 10 %. not bad for a 3rd party kart racing game.

    • Nintedward

No it’s more than 10% really because the game hasn’t been released in Japan where there is about a million Wiiu’s.

So it’s sold 310,000 in EU and USA alone in which there is about 2.5 million Wiiu’s.

    • AAAkabob

Not to mention theres less than 4 million Wii U sold. Meanwhile Xbox and PS3 combined have around 150 million…Maybe theres a lesson here developers?

      • TheLazyMudkip

Yea and the ps3 and xbox 360 have been out for almost 7 years.. so that’s not a fair comparison

        • D.M.T

What do you mean? It IS a fair comparison. The game is supposed to sell better on those systems but it didnt because gamers on those consoles are too busy playing shooting games

          • I get what you mean… According to VG charts it sold 260,000 the 360, 220,000 on the PS3, and it says 210,000 on the Wii U. These figures are from April and according to VGCharts. But seeing as the Wii U is newer than both the PS3 and 360 it sold pretty evenly across the board.

  • jerry

LMFAO!!!and you wonder why 3rd party are not making any games for the wii u?

    • kenny Johnson

I’m not sure I understand your point. They sold 1.36 million copies. That means 23% of the sales were on the Wii U. Considering that it was released on X-Box 360, PS3, PC, 3DS, and Vita — 23% sounds good.

    • Zombie Boy

1.36 million – 500,000 from Nintendo owners = 860,000 from a combination of PC, XBox360 and PS3 owners (I’ve not included the Vita because, let’s face it, nobody ever does)… That’s roughly 287,000 copies sold on each of those platforms… Do your maths! Now compare that to the 310,000 copies sold on the Wii U. So explain to me your reasoning?

      • D.M.T

Trolls and Nintendo Hater cannot do math which is why they think 310,000 out of 1.36 million is bad. If you include 3DS sales that’s 500,000. He’s dumb nevermind him lol.

        • Zombie Boy

He seems to have gone very quiet…

          • Jimmy D. Fugate

That’s because he just realized how he did his math wrong…

          • Johny

haha do you actually think he’s done any math ?

    • Ace J

your reading the wrong article kid. go to one of the negative articles and troll there

    • JeanPaul

This idiot only read the title and ran in here to troll. How old are you Btw?

  • disqus_8ZxUaYtBKt

IMO the game was better than any Mario Kart game.

    • Magnus Eriksson

      Should I buy it?

      • AAAkabob

nope mario kart is coming this fall bud

        • Magnus Eriksson

Hope it will. But Im not sure it do.

        • Fred

So it’s still a really fun game and only $40

      • Zombie Boy

Best bet – watch a walkthrough on YouTube and see what you think. It convinced me to buy it and I have no regrets!

        It’s cheap too!

        • Magnus Eriksson

Ive did, and IMO looks good. Tried the demo too, but is a little bit split what to think.

      • Fred

        YES especially for $40!

        • Magnus Eriksson

Its not 40$ where I love. More like 80$ I think.

          • Fred

Ouch, I’m sorry to hear that.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Haha! Thats life, in Scandinavia everything is a bit more pricy. They might reduce it eventually though.

      • I picked it up for $29 in the eShop and it is pretty decent. I like racing games anyway and this is something I can play with my wife and nephews as they are not so good at Need For Speed or other racing sims based off more realistic driving/racing. The graphics are nice and it has some unique elements like transforming from car to boat to plane within the same race that offer a fun aspect to the racing. Some of the power-ups/weapons are kind corny and a bit lame but other than that it is not bad.

        • Magnus Eriksson

Yeah, I think I might buy it. 🙂

      • I’d recommend it if you’re into racing games, especially the multiplayer type. I’ve been happy with it.

    • zerooooo

Not really… MKW was less gimmicky and abit more tactical. Only flaw was character balance.

    • Rick van der Linde

Wow, what a statement! I love Mario Kart and I tried the demo for this game, but I don’t know.. This game feels more like ModNation Racers, and I didn’t like that game. The items are just way more fun in Mario Kart, imho.

  • babulibaba

also note that ‘The Cave’ was published by Sega so an amount of the 130k sales is from ‘The Cave’ and the rest is from ‘Sonic & Allstar’s Racing’
this is trying to hate on the article
    just saying
also on the wii u sonic racing was awesome

    • Zombie Boy

The article clearly states that the 1.36 million sales were from Sonic Racing alone. I’m sure the sales from The Cave were counted seperately.

      • babulibaba

it says overall software sales for wii u are 130k which the article writer took as sales for sonic racing because no other wii u games were listed but the total software sales include the cave also

        • Zombie Boy

Can you show me where you get your evidence? Link please.

          • babulibaba

            its in the article

its linked in Sega’s Financial Support written in blue

          • Zombie Boy

That just takes you to this page…

“Sega planning to release 7 Wii U titles this year”

            I’ve Googled the sales figures;

and you might be right. I guess only time will tell, but given that Sega plan to release another 7 titles this year, it can’t be all THAT bad…

          • Guest

on that page again click on segas financial report

          • Zombie Boy

I got it (edited my comment before I saw yours).

          • babulibaba

yes ur right, i think we all know that by the end of this year wii u will b up and running in the market

  • John Andalora

Am I the only one who hates this game? I think this is terrible, and I think the ont reason it sold so many copies is because it said “Sonic” on the front.

    • Johny

a cheap mario kart 7 clone with sonic as its selling point? yep.

      • Magnus Eriksson

        I think it looked nice.

      • Fred

I don’t think it’s a cheap clone, we’ve had a lot of fun with it. We bought Mario Kart 7 about the same time and we’ve played more Sonic than Mario Kart

        • Johny

yeah i think its pretty well made.. it looks good, it plays good, and it feels pretty good. but i dont know… it just feels kinda meh to me… it may be just because i hate the characters (other than those from sonic franchise)

          • Fred

I hear you on the characters I don’t have a clue who most of them are, but that doesn’t bother us cause we’re the boring type that like to use just 1 character and get really good with them. I use Wreck it Ralph and my wife uses Knuckles. I used metal sonic once, but we’ haven’t touched the other characters so that’s a non-issue to me

    • Magnus Eriksson

Is it bad? I was unable to choose. Apart of me loved the demo, another thought is was ok.

      • DK_Hadouken

There is a glitch in it that can eventual cause console damage and they’ve yet, from my understanding, provide a patch. They’re fully aware of it.

The glitch happens when you’re playing an intense multi-player match, online or local. When things become to gnarly, you’ll be thrown about the track and then the console will freeze and will produce an annoying and never ending car honk.

Like any device, excessive freezing can and/or will cause system damage.

I got sick and tired of waiting for a patch and got rid of it. It was a really good game, glitch aside.

        • Magnus Eriksson

That sounds not to good… Sounds like people are as mixed to it as I am 😀

        • Fred

Maybe you just have bad luck, we bought it at launch only play multiplayer and we never have it freeze

    • incoherent1

I didn’t love it. I played the demo and it was fun enough, but didn’t inspire me to plunk down money for it. The mechanics and gameplay just didn’t make much sense to me.

That said, if other people enjoyed it, then all the better — the more hits on the console, the better it is for all of us.

    • Fred

I like it BETTER than Mario Kart Wii or 7. If you’re in 1st it’s not super cheap with the items. If the next person is close to you they can hit you and pass you, but if you’re way ahead and get hit you’re fine. Mario Kart drives me nuts when I’m killing everyone for 2 and a half laps and in the last lap someone hits me with a blue shell and then I take 4th on the race!

    • Wayne Beck

I tried the Demo and thought it was one of the best racing games I’ve played in recent years. Kind of Reminded me of Diddy Kong Racing without the Overworld.

    • The game is OK. Fun to play for me and my wife. It’s no Mario Kart and I think some of the power ups/weapons are kind of lame but still not too bad.

    • Mario

That has nothing to do with it bub. I tried the demo. It’s good. The only problem is I can’t buy it because I HAVE NO MONEY. But I think I’ll buy it after buying Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. Or after another game I like better.

  • Magnus Eriksson

This is a game Ive thought of but never got. Played the demo but couldnt decide if I loved it or if it was just ok. How does this stand against Mario Kart on Wii?

    • Zombie Boy

I prefer it. That’s just my opinion though. Maybe if Mario Kart made significant changes for the Wii U version it could top it, but this game handles really well and some of the tracks are awesome! If you ever played the old Sega systems, it has an added nostalgia bonus too.

      • Magnus Eriksson

Its really that good? Yeah, I always liked SEGA too.

        • Zombie Boy

Just rent it. Seriously, it’s a big game and a couple of day’s worth of play won’t do it justice, but you’ll get to see a few more tracks, unlock a few more racers and decide whether to buy it or not.
But in my opinion, it’s well worth the cheap price tag and different enough to Mario Kart to justify buying them both if you want to.
          Here’s a decent walkthrough (of the Wii U version) if you fancy watching it for a bit;

    • Fred

We’ve already played it more than Mario Kart Wii. my wife likes them about the same but I like this one more

  • Mickey Mouse

I was always under the impression that it was a million seller on the Wii U, don’t know where I got that from.

  • There is good news out there for Wii u. I have seen it! Oh wait! Here it is.

  • Agent721

You see…its not doom & gloom! I want to hear how much Lego City sold, by far my favorite on the Wii U so far.

  • Fred

Absolutely love this game. My wife and I play together and I love that we can play co-op on the main game (I’ll never understand why they left it off Mario Kart Wii especially after they had it on Double Dash) and I love that there’s no split screen (she uses just tv and I use the gamepad) I get really frusterated with Mario Kart Wii and 7 especailly when I’m in first place till the last lap and then at the end I get hit by a blue shell and fall back to 2nd or 3rd. This game has items like that, but defensive ones stop everything and even if you get hit it only slows you down it doesn’t stop you so unless they were already close to you they won’t pass you just by hitting you once.

  • Mario

    I want this gaaaaammmeeeee!!!!!

  • PachterStation

I suppose SEGA games are more suited for Nintendo consoles. Can’t say I’m a fan of Sonic games anymore. I wouldn’t say no to Outrun 3 and a new Daytona USA, but after the last SEGA Rally flopped, not forgetting the terrible SEGA Rally 2006 before it (Japan only) I think SEGA have given up on racers. As a matter of fact, it’s not often I play SEGA games as they’ve gone to the dogs. After Virtua Fighter 6 and Shenmue 3, can’t say I’d want to play anything else from SEGA. Even the Super Monkey Ball games have died.

  • Love this game so much

  • Birgir Bjornsson

Great game and and better than the latest mario kart games. The lagging players don’t go faster than you and no absurd power-ups for only the lagging players. Also a great variety of playing modes and stages.

  • FlyingBoat

i reckon sega is more than pleased with the number of sales, because theyre planning on releasing seven more games this year, according to that earlier article

  • Ducked

It sold well for 2 reasons. 1: Its a racing game. 2: It was $20 cheaper then other Wii U games.

    • It being a Sonic racing game holds no factor in it selling well?

  • discuss

It sold well because there is no mario kart and it’s cheap.

    • I think it’s that but really it offers something different to Mario Kart even if Mario Kart was out right now it still probably would have sold well because not everyone buys just Mario Kart or don’t like Mario Kart in general. Also I fail to see that logic with the 3ds having Mario Kart 7 on it already.
