shin megami crossover

One of the more disappointing developments of E3 this year is that we heard no more news on the Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem crossover that Nintendo announced in 2012. Aside from a small cut trailer that was shown in a Nintendo Direct earlier, we haven’t heard much news about the game at all. This has led many to speculate that the game may be going through development troubles, but developer Hitoshi Yamagami says that’s not true.

We’re right on schedule, but if I answer in any more detail I will lose my job, so please have mercy on me.

For those of you asking where the announcements on this game were, apparently it’s being kept very much under wraps until Nintendo and ATLUS are ready to display more of the game.

Reporting on news late typical. .

  • Shota

Why so late with this news?

    • Arthur Jarret

Because WiiUdaily is under-staffed, started as a one-man-project under an affiliate program and is (mostly?) run by volunteers instead of paid journalists.

Also: Why didn’t you use the “GOT ARTICLE IDEAS? TIP US!’ button on the top-right sooner?

      • jjbredesen

I use it almost daily, but i am not even sure they read the tips, cause i have tipped stuff, and then 1 week later they post an article about it with a different source etc. Only been happening recently so i guess they are just not back from E3 yet, or recovering xD

        • Arthur Jarret

I use it sometimes, almost always been thanked by mail even if I’m not credited. It usually takes them at least 12 hours, but that might be because I’m in a different timezone

          • jjbredesen

I have been credited, but i have only got one email response that said they would look in to the rumor i reported.

Guess not all of the emails reach there inbox?

      • Adrian

I don’t think it was a one man project…. I was here at the beginning and I’ve always noticed a few staff members. I could be remembering wrong though.

        • Arthur Jarret

I thought it was just John Kinsley in the beginning – way back, before Disqus was added to the site.

          • Adrian

Maybe I wasn’t here at the beginning. I remember when Disqus was added I talked to Ashley because my computer stopped working with the site (with the addition of the site).

          • jjbredesen

Ashley was here to, and there was a japanese guy, but can’t remmeber his name…

          • Arthur Jarret

I believe at first all articles were either posted by Kinsley or ‘WiiU Daily staff’ – easy to check, just click on ‘Last article (or post)’ on the main page, at the bottom.

          • jjbredesen

Yeah your right, i did not come before around when Disqus came, when i look at the older articles it looks like i came a lot later than i thought.

      • Shota

        i do they dont listen

        • Arthur Jarret

Wasn’t intended angry – 99% of what I say and write is intended as humor

          • Shota

Why didn’t you use the “GOT ARTICLE IDEAS? TIP US!’ button on the top-right sooner? sounded angry to me. but now i know then

          • Arthur Jarret

It didn’t sound like anything… I didn’t include any audio :P. Ah well, it was intended more like a uh-hun, in ya face! sort of gag as in -so-why-didn’t-you-do-something-about-it fashion… with bells on.

Yup, I’m not following myself either…

    • Capt. Smoker

Well, Ashley had to wait for it to appear on google news, I imagine a quick google search does it, copy and paste article, trim, puts in own random words, mission accomplished 2 days later

      • Shota

        XD hahahaha

  • Arthur Jarret

I wonder what the scheduled release date is… 2016?
Because 2015 already seems PACKED. Nothing much coming in 2014 – but Microsoft, Sony, EA, Ubi and Nintendo have all announced many major releases for 2015

  • Rinslowe

    I don’t get it. Honestly. There’s secrecy. And then there’s this…

    • jjbredesen

Well anything Nintendo does usually is not talked about much, until right before launch.

Don’t think there will be any StarFox news until next E3, and Zelda U will prob be in a January direct or something, but not much info until release as always.

But this is sort of a bit more extreme than normal.

      • Rinslowe

Of course. And that’s expected of Nintendo in general.
Only one issue with that reason at this point in time though…

Man, it’s half way through 2014. It’ll be 2015 probably before we truly see the game in action. They might be on track. But that track is off the beaten path, lol.

        • jjbredesen

Yup, it sure has taken a long time, but we had to wait ages for Twilight Princess, so i guess they just showed the game a little to early.

        • abe

Early in the Wii u’s life Nintendo went through a phase of announcing everything really early, I expect SMT X FE like smash Bros was announced before workhad started

        • Daniel Carvalho

I believe they might have the game ready to launch this Christmas, but since they had so many games to show for Wii U this E3, they had to select what they had to show and what they would keep a secret. I believe they have even more in development, and they’ll start showing us this year on the following Nintendo Directs until Christmas.

          • Rinslowe

Hopefully. As a Wii U owner. I’m all for more games. The ones confirmed for this year already; Hyrule Warriors, Bayo 1 & 2 and Smash is enough to keep me busy, including Kart for the platform…

          • Daniel Carvalho

Just remember that Nintendo said they’ll let other companies handle their IPs, so we might have someone else working on F-Zero, Ice Climbers, and others. We might even have more original IPs coming for the console, and due to the boost in sales caused by Mario Kart 8, I believe we’ll see more multiplatform titles coming from now on, specially from Ubisoft (they’ll come back with a higher installed base).

By the end of 2015, the only third party not supporting the Wii U will be EA games!

        • Yen

Am I missing something? Thought it was announced in 2013. So 1.5 years since they announced it. There have been worse cases.

    • The Clockwork Being

Well remember what happened to Yarn Yoshi. Every thought it was cancelled and then it was shown.

      • Rinslowe

Well when it was announced it was pretty high up on my wish list. It still is. But obscurity is an understatement. Now I’d rather forget about it until something is shown…

  • Adrian

I want more incentives like Mario Kart 8. I’ve grown up a used game buyer and I’m a creature of habit. So far steam is the only model that has convinced me to consistently “buy new”. Shelling out 60 bucks for a single game is tough. I hope this game comes out with a MK8 like incentive so I can (be convinced to) get it day one.

    • keithmaxx

If you can’t be convinced to buy a full console title at full price near launch day I’d be surprised you’re a console gamer at all. If you’re satisfied with bargains then by all means just wait until it drops price. I’d say that the price is well worth the whole developer team’s effort.

      • Adrian

Ah yes, I’ve ran into several elitists such as yourself. Been gaming for 24+ years buddy. Out of the hundreds of games I’ve played, less than 10 have been full retail. That’s just how I roll. I need to be convinced to buy at day 1.

  • Ducked

There’s a good chance it could appear at the Tokyo Game Show in September. That’s what I’m looking forward to seeing FFXV and KHIII

  • Lusunup

Did he really just said ” have mercy on me “

  • ではない私の名前 これは

Hype can kill a game if built up to much. I understand why they keep it under wraps. Teasing a pic or two would be good though.

  • Sycamore

I really hope this is an srpg and not a fighting game. I’m terrible at fighting games.

  • Will the3rd

Uff, I was afraid for this game, in fact, I was going to post here if someone knew something, because Fire Emblem is by far my favourite Nintendo franchise (Pokémon aside) (Metroid is the only one that is not so far, too, xD).
I’m happy they realize that we missed this game in the fair, and that they try to calm us down, but I’m still having doubts because as you said this “on schedule” surprises, after being a game announced with the WiiU, I think, and given that it seems it won’t be released this 2014 in the West (but as someone said, maybe in the Tokio Game Show they show it and it’s released in Xmas in Japan, hopefully! ^^ 🙂 ).

  • lonewolf

Well look at hyrule warriors they announced several months ago and they are releasing it right away thats what I like about nintendo you think there are no games and BANG out of nowhere game after game.

  • Capt. Smoker

I imagine the trailer they teased was judt the idea of the project, I imagine it got under way not long after, that or they wanna hold some games back to show us next year, either way, I hope they take their time with it, I wouldn’t want them messing this one up.

  • Spencer Manigat

This is why I’ve stopped using Wii U daily. This is over a week late. It’s not news anymore.

  • Joseph Oliveira

Silly Nintendo and the hush hush secrets.

  • Dying_in_this_Crap_World

I’m scared as neither game has any type of real exploration…I hope we aren’t all in for a bigass text adventure
